Speaker 1 (00:00):
O'clock Tonight's Benjamin al Brights and Nick Ferguson will take
over at that point. By the way, speaking of Ben
and Nick, you can watch the Broncos Texans game with
those fellas at burn Down, Denver off Broadway from eleven
am to one pm on Sunday, and or to win
a Broncos Raiders Vegas trip. I believe this is your
last opportunity, by the way, to do that, so make

(00:21):
sure you go down there from eleven to one at
burn Down off Broadway to register for that. It's all
presented by Arte Tequila, the official tequila of the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Very cool stuff.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
We're gonna be given away a pair of Broncos Raiders
tickets coming up after our Coach's Corner at five thirty.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Okay, So I've been telling.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
You guys the time, the specific time. People text in
and ask us we wants the specific time because we
want to help out the streamers. Yeah, because the over
air people they give it a certain amount of time
when I say, you know, caller ten, but the streamers
it's always delayed.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
So I'm going to tell them this specific time.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
So we have our Coach's corner coming up at five
thirty tonight, and then right after that, immediately after that,
you should be calling in for a chance to win
in the Broncos Raiders tickets. Let's cheet looking out for
the I try streamers sometimes, I you know, even though
I have, you know, dreams that have been crushed and
we're flannel.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
We all have though. Yeah, it's what it is, you know.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Okay, So, uh, one thing I wanted to ask you about.
We were talking about it for a moment during the break.
Mercedes Lewis the newest Denver Bronco who actually might be active.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
For this game. Yes, well, because we've got some injuries
at tight end, right we do.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, Nate Actors is out. Yeah, and you need some
help in line blocking. Plus, without Alex Pelchewski as your
jumbo package offensive lineman, you've kind of needed a guy
six with six almost two hundred seventy pounds.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
It's a big boy. He's a big guy. Was he
a basketball player as well? I don't know, my voice
just co high like that. It sounded like eight.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Year old girl asking the question about the animals.

Speaker 3 (01:58):
But I feel like he was a basketball player at
some point and then he turned into a you know,
a blocker, which which is rare, you know, because the
basketball players have a hard time learning to block.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
But he's but he's forty one.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
We played at the same time in the NFL, and
he's never had a surgery in twenty years in the NFL.
So I think it's it's it's an interesting thing that
happens because the longer you go playing in the NFL,
the smarter you become, the more you see, the more
you understand, and your technique gets better. The problem is
that your body's deteriorating at the same speed as you're improving, right,

(02:32):
and so there's a sweet spot that happens right right
around twenty seven twenty eight where you're like, you have
a lot of mental power and your physical you're kind
of in your physical peak. But most guys they start
to break down in the late twenties. I mean, I
was one of those guys. I was playing my best
football of my life the year I got cut. I
mean I was I still learned in the position I
was playing side end, I was playing all these different

(02:53):
special teams positions, and I had amassed these different tools
in my tool belt, and I thought, dude, I could
play forever if my body holds up.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
And my body did not hold up, my body was
ready to just say enough.

Speaker 3 (03:07):
Groin popped off the bone bang in two thousand and
seven the next and put me on ir missed the
season the rest of the season. The next season, towards
the end of that season, the hamstring tears off the bone, and.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
That was kind of it.

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I mean, Shanahan got fired after that, and then Josh
McDaniels comes in.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
And cuts a bunch of guys on one of them.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
But I had I couldn't get really back in the
league after that, even though I had some really good tape,
and you know, because my body was in shambles. And
it's just is what it is. I mean, most guys
fall apart. It's a young man's game, but not for
Mercedes Lewis. He's forty one and he's about ready to
strap it up for the Denver Broncs.

Speaker 1 (03:41):
It's so impressive, it really is, right. I mean, you know,
not having high expectations for him running like the deep
seam or anything like that. He's going to be out
there blocking. He might run a hitch or a stick
or something like that. I mean, there might be you watch.
I bet Sean Baty wants to get him a touchdown.
Imagine he's no, I can't imagine, and he will. I
think that would be a fun prop bet to do.

(04:02):
Mercedes Lewis anytime touchdown.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
I like that.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
That's a good you know what Ben likes all the
gambling stuff. I'll talk to him about that because that's
a that's a really good one because you think about
it just in terms of he's coming back into the
league and by the way he's like the last four
or five years, he played every game like he's out
there for seventeen games and he's him playing a ton
of snaps, but he's available to play. And it really

(04:26):
is a mark of remarkable the fact that you were
in the league. We had Ron Smith's studio, he was lea,
Mercedes Lewis was playing. It's there and again, I don't
know if you saw all this, but it was the
rookie year for Sean Payton.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
In New Orleans. Oh yeah, wow, when he was a
rookie Yeah, and drafted in the same class as Demico Ryance.
Demico Risey they're playing against this week is the head coach.
Just amazing.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
He was in Joshua Tree when he found out.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
The sauna, because well, and so what's funny about that
is because we talk all the time about players that
are waiting to get the call. Right, You're sitting in
the tape and and people know I'm still available, still available.
He's hanging out in Joshua Tree. You know when there's
so many other guys there, Well, they're at the gym.
I'm at the gym coaching. You need me now, you know,
I've been working out this entire time. But he looks

(05:14):
the part, and Sean Stevens said, He's like, yeah, he's
he's Marvel.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Yeah, it's pretty amazing. But yeah, they make you feel
like maybe you should pick up that guitar again. It
should inspire me. It's sick. Maybe you shouldn't give up
on that trick. Maybe I shouldn't.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
You know, if Mercedes Lewis, ye can continue to play
football at forty one, and I do believe if he
catches a pass, this would be like the oldest player
to ever catch a pass in the NFL. It's forty one, man,
So if you're Sewan, you're definitely gonna get him a pass.
It's a guaranteed that's like a lock. He's gonna get
a pass in this game.

Speaker 3 (05:49):
Big body, big target in the red zone. Why not
throw something up there to him?

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I mean, I think I would.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Somebody's asking about Marvin Mims on the text line five
six six nine zero. So with Marvin Mims out, who
do you think has the kicking game duties? Riley Moss
or Michael Bandy from the practice squad? Oh uh, you
know that's a good question. I I mean, certainly. Well,
so you have you have pun return and kick return.
So kick return will continue to be RJ.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Harvey and I.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Would imagine the other one will be Tyler Beiday, So
it'll be our RJ. Harvey and Tyler Biday, and then
I punt return will be fascinating. I'm trying to think
who is the back I guess I have to look
at the the roster. Let me let me pull that
up real quick to see what the what the death
charge says, because the depth chart will tell us a.

Speaker 2 (06:36):
Little bit more about who they're back up.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
I just a space in off the top of my
head with the backup punt return.

Speaker 3 (06:42):
Catching punts is hard, man, It's I mean, those things
just they move a lot and they get really high
up there, and so just judging the punt in the air,
you need someone who's going to catch that thing first
and foremost. You don't need an electric returner. You need
someone who's going to secure the catch on that punt.
More so, you know you're not gonna get Marvin Mims
out there, he's your all pro returner. You need someone

(07:04):
who's going to make sure that they catch it. And
you know a lot of times coach is gonna be like,
just fair catch it. You know it's fine, just make
sure you get the ball.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Well, we list Riley Moss as our backup punt returner,
so the texture was right. Riley Moss is the backup
punt returner.

Speaker 3 (07:20):
Oh, he caught a putt in the game. Yeah. I
don't like having Riley back then. I don't know if
I like Riley back there right now, because it's at
the end of a drive and he's out there, he's
gonna get be getting tested, he's gonna be winded.

Speaker 1 (07:30):
Jelim McLoughlin's also listed as a backup kick returner, so
he might be up I mean, someone's gonna be up there.

Speaker 3 (07:36):
This's previously been down for that but he's been inactive
for last couple of games. Yes he has. Yeah, he said,
his tough time, and I can understand why.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
I mean, you're thinking about the bodies you have there
for running back, and it's really the two headed monster.
And I know that you want to be one, but
it's really the two guys. Although Argie Harvey did have
a nice game this last week, I don't are you
Are you changing your tune a little bit now?

Speaker 2 (07:58):
No?

Speaker 3 (07:58):
I think I think it's going to you know, his
production will increase.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
As the season goes on, and I've always thought that
in the latter half of the season, you're going to
really need RJ. Harvey.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
But when JK. Dobbins is doing what he's doing, why
stop that. He's third in the NFL and rushing.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, keep going, I mean, keep feeding me. I mean
he wants to eat, right, So keep giving him what
he wants. The offensive line loves it.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
He's got great vision, He's seeing exactly what's going on
out there. He's responding well to what they're asking him
to do. And when you leave him out on the
field and you don't, you know, flip the personnel group
after a first down six yard run. It seems to
be working for them, at least it did last week.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
You know, missing Marvin Mims is kind of a big deal.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
I know we spent a lot of time talking about
passer Tan, but missing Marvin Mims is big because of
special teams obviously, and then what he offers on the.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Offensive side of the ball.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
So is that more what you're going to be expecting
out of I guess who who's guy that sort of be.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
The next guy up? You know, I think it's from Franklin.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
Well, I think it kind of takes some plays off
the table there because he does He's the only guy
who does that sort of backfield. He's the only receiver
who you really put in the backfield and hand the
ball off to a jet motion or end a round stuff, right.
I mean, are you gonna feel comfortable having Troy Franklin
in the back in the backfield him handing them the ball.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
I don't think so. You did a little bit last
year with him, but.

Speaker 3 (09:14):
I just don't see him with the same skill set,
and so yeah, it is. It's it's gonna be hard
because the threat of Marvin Mims is sometimes enough to
pull the attention over here and then we hit you
over here, you know, and having those weapons and being
able to have on film you doing something with Marvin Mims,

(09:34):
this dynamic out of the backfield, and then having him
in the backfield, your eyes, your attentionly goes to Marvin,
and then you know, you have a nice play action
of Marvin, and all of a sudden something opens up
up the same or or somewhere because people are worried
about Marvin Mims gashing him with him not out there,
that's going to limit what they can do offensively. I mean,
you know, their playbook's already pretty darn thick. They'll they'll

(09:56):
be able to figure it out.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
I want to talk about a couple of keys of
this game, specifically on the offensive side of the ball. Thanks,
by the way, Chris Greer twenty six years, twenty six
years with the Dolphins. He got mutually agreed to a
part ways, which is usually I don't think anybody mutually

(10:22):
agrees to not be paid millions of dollars. So he's
out with the Dolphins. They're probably gonna be more or
less cleaning house after this thing. That was a tough
performance last night. And then meanwhile, Baltimore ravens Lamar Jackson.
They come back and they look like they've always looked
when when they're clicking on all cylinders.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Or they're playing a real bad team too. That could help.
That can help. There's been before we get back to
the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (10:46):
I have not remembered in my time covering the league
or watching football a bigger disparity of.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
The haves and have nots as there is right now.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
As there is right now, we had last week was
the first time since nineteen seventy. We've talked about it
a bunch of this week, so I apologize for the
people that already heard the stat.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
We talked about it.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
It's the first time since nineteen seventy that we only
had one game decided by one score and the average
margin of victory was over eighteen points per game.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Yeah, the NFL doesn't like that. It's not typical.

Speaker 3 (11:14):
No, And that's why the salary cap exists. That's why
the draft is the way it is. That's why free
agency is the way it is. It's to keep it close. Yeah,
they like the parody man, and so that's kind of
an interesting stat. I don't know what it counts for that.

Speaker 2 (11:27):
Why is that.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
I think there's a lot of injuries, you know. And
it's fascinating too, because I was reading an article earlier
in the week about expansion and how NFL fans, as
you'd expect would are in favor of expansion not only
of teams but also of the season. But then I
see weekends like that, I'm like, we don't need expansion.

Speaker 2 (11:45):
We just we need more talent. I don't know what
we need, but I think a massive expansion, right.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
I was like, I don't want to water this product
down more like the product's amazing, and it's number one
across everything, right, I mean it's even bad NFL game
still draw better than almost anything else that happens.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Oh, but you know there, you're seeing the disparity in
quarterback play.

Speaker 1 (12:07):
I mean, my goodness, some of these teams are on
their third and fourth string quarterbacks and you're just going
to like, all right, well, this game is going to
be a gimme for the opponent who is playing their
first string quarterback and relatively healthy, and you just know
that that game is going to be a blowout. Again,
it's rare. It doesn't happen like that every weekend. In fact,
earlier this season, I think they were setting records on
how many games were decided within the last minutes.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
So it's it's pretty you know, atypical.

Speaker 1 (12:31):
But at the same time, after last weekend, I was like, ah, man,
if you were to send out this poll right after
a weekend where the games were decided by twenty points
or more than I think most NFL fans say like,
I don't know if I need more of that.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
Maybe some bad coaching out there. Oh that's a good one.

Speaker 3 (12:48):
I thought it was because there's a lot of new coaches. Sure,
you know, you have two or three losing seasons, they
take a swing on a young guy or a promising
coach or somebody they think is going to be a
good coach, and they're not. There's a ton that goes
into being a successful head coach. And that's why I
think Broncos fans should feel so good about their head

(13:09):
coach is because he has so much experience. He understands
all the different compartments. I mean, there might be a
very talented coordinator who comes.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
In and it's just an awful head coach. We saw
it with Josh McDaniels.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
We see it all the time, just because you're a
smart football guy, doesn't mean you're going to be a
good head coach. And I think, you know, that's the
advantage that the Broncos have with Sean Payton is that
he's been there, done that. But so has Andy Reid,
so has Jim Harbaugh, you know, a couple other guys
in this division. But when he gives you guys like
Aaron Glenn, who's, like, you know, a defensive coordinator, and
he's all of a sudden got to manage the clock

(13:42):
in a game like crucial moment.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
He doesn't know what he's doing. He's never done that before.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
He's probably never ever called been the guy who has
to call the timeouts in the last minute and save
time for his offense or whatever it might be. And
then you talk about the quarterbacks and the frequent injuries
and the backups. Does that indicate, you know, based on
the fact that very few quarterbacks last the whole season.
I think last year it was like only Patrick Mahomes

(14:10):
and Josh Allen started every game.

Speaker 2 (14:12):
I asked about, right, Well, I think Lamar played well,
but he was banging. He missed a couple of games. Okay, yeah, yeah,
you may be right. So that's the case.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
If you kind of know this is coming, should you
be splitting reps at practice more evenly with your backup
because the way it is now, the starter's getting ninety
five percent of the reps. I mean, you know, as
Jared said, him taking reps with the ones, No he's not.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
No, should he be?

Speaker 3 (14:35):
Because if Bonis goes down, Jared's got to go in
there and not miss a beating. Now, Jared's, you know,
a veteran. But if the frequency with which quarterbacks get hurt,
I think, you know, if your starting quarterback is hurt,
you're done.

Speaker 2 (14:48):
You're done.

Speaker 3 (14:49):
And it's not like this guy can't throw the football.
It's not like he's not a good quarterback. He didn't quarterbacks.
He doesn't get reps.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Yeah, his timing is off, But there's so much you
can do, and I mean you don't.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
You can only plan for so many of actualities.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Right.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
That's a pretty big one though, Yeah, it's a good one.

Speaker 3 (15:03):
It's the one guy who touches the ball every play,
who's involved in communicating the offense.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
And so I wonder if there's a virtual way to
do that. I know it sounds like silly, are goggles
and stuff.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
I'm just saying I have those.

Speaker 3 (15:19):
Yeah, they have those, and I know the quarterback. There
are quarterbacks that believe in that stuff. So yeah, Jade
Daniels is like the big guy who is Yeah, he
did it right last year day. He had a decent season.
What's going on with him now? Though he's out of
the VR goggles?

Speaker 2 (15:33):
No, I'm kidding. I mean, injuries happened to everyone, but
I think it's rare.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
It's a rare thing that like a young quarterback like
really learns about.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
The game through through video games. Fair all I wa
to come back. There's something specific.

Speaker 1 (15:46):
I think the offense absolutely has to do explain that
when we come back. Also, your chance to win a
fifty dollars gift card to Maverick on the other side
of this brick.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
That's gonna be a lot of fun up here a
little bit. Jake Plumber used to throw a cool Halloween
party for us. Did he really? Yeah? Nice? It was
pretty fun. Everyone dressed up.

Speaker 3 (16:07):
He had his house and then he read it out,
you know, in ball room in a hotel a couple
of times, and it was cool. It was really fun
team building thing, and it was like nobody cared about it,
but then von Miller did it and everybody hated him
for it.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
I never really understood that. Yeah, it was weird, Like
what's wrong with having a party with your teammates? Man?

Speaker 1 (16:25):
Well, okay, not to intentionally be Devil's advocate, but I'll
just explain why. What I remember some fans grousing about.
When von Miller was throwing his parties, it felt to
some fans as though the focus wasn't on what was
most important, which is winning. And if you're a team
that has a struggling record, for example, and you're throwing

(16:46):
a Halloween party, it's listen. I'm not saying it's not
the level headed. I'm just saying this is what the
things that were said. I remember, I remember exactly what
we're talking about, and I remember fans being very upset
because it's like, are you guys. Do you guys care
about winning? Do you care about being a good team?
Why are you having parties right now? You should be
in the playbooks.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
You should be studying your playbook at all hours. Yes,
Sometimes the reason why you're not doing well is because
you're not connecting as a team. Sometimes a good party
is what you need. To remember who you are your
friendships outside of the building. I mean, the building is
a very tense place sometimes when you're losing, it can

(17:27):
be and coaches make it really miserable to be there.
And if the only time you're seeing each other is
when you're miserable, then you go in there and you're
just miserable and you're.

Speaker 2 (17:34):
Not playing well.

Speaker 3 (17:35):
Well, you get out of here, you put on a
silly costume, you have some fun, you realize that you
love each other and you and your brothers, and then
you go back out there and get better. I've seen
that happen too, so I think some fun, sometimes having
fun is what it takes to connect and get back
on the same page.

Speaker 1 (17:51):
I love it, and I'm one hundred percent with you,
But I also can see from a fans perspective, and
I think that sometimes there's a disconnect because for the fans,
they think about this team all the time. The players
don't necessarily they think about the job because it is
a job, but it doesn't necessarily mean it's a fandom
feel that they have for their team. Right. This is
like I was drafted by the Broncos. I had no

(18:14):
allegiance whatsoever to the Broncos until now that I get
paid by them or I.

Speaker 2 (18:17):
Chose them in free agency, and I'm happy to be here.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
But also it's a job, and I deserve to go
blow off steam and have a good time, unless, of course,
you're Chad Kelly, and then that's a whole different conversation,
but you know what I'm saying. Like, and then for fans,
they say, okay, well do you really like do you
really care as much about this as I do? And
I put a lot of my hard work earned money
into this team and my time and effort into this team.

(18:40):
And now I see you guys out there having a
good time at a party when you're a two win team,
and it just feels like you this is like part
and parcel of a.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
Team that doesn't focus on the right things.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
So again, I don't intentionally want to argue the Devil's Advocate,
but I just know from years of doing this that
that is what was said, at least at the time
when von Miller was throwing those parties.

Speaker 2 (19:00):
Right now, the Broncos not a Halloween party this weekend.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
There's six win team aout the ANC problems, no problems,
We're good. I haven't seen a single fan out there
say one negative thing because everything is gravy.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Yeah, so I know, I agree.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
I mean, I just think it's funny because these are
human beings who do need to blossom steam from time
to time.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
I love your point, though, and I wish it was
said even at the time, because I think at that
time the players are just like I don't know why
fans are so upset about this, but about the bonding
and honestly, most of the time, the thing that separates
in my opinion of doing this for as long as
I've done it, the thing that separates good teams from
the average teams to anybody else, is that something extra.

(19:42):
There's a sort of an internal belief in each other,
an internal belief of when things aren't going well, but you.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Know, I trust in this guys, I like this guy,
and we we have a core of players that believe
in each other.

Speaker 1 (19:56):
And you can't get that just by x's and o's,
and you can't get that just by the scheme.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
It has to come from something else.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Yeah, you get to know each other as people, and
you get away from the coaches and you have some adventures.
I mean, you know, in the offseason, these guys will
go somewhere and throw and go on trips together and
that kind of stuff is the glue that really keeps,
you know, the team together and when the chips are down,
as they say, those connections matter.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
You know that do you love the guy next to
you or did you just work with him?

Speaker 3 (20:24):
And if you love the person who you're working with,
man like it makes it a better product and you'll
go to bat for him. And that's what you're seeing
showing up with the Broncos. And I think these guys
actually care about each other.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
On the text line, Ryan, I could hear your soul
leaving your body with that shot from Nate earlier.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
Yeah he really did. I had to take a laugh. Okay.
So before we get to our pick.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Up them for week nine, the thing that I think
the offense needs to do most important thing is and
it's actually a little bit of a carryover from what
they did against Dallas. You know, it's a tougher challenge
because the Texans. It's being better on first and second down.
I know that says you say that it's like every
week you want to be good on that, but there
was an intention behind it. The way they ran the ball,

(21:04):
and even Bo Nicks like I played this earlier in
the week when he was asked about how the offense
looked against Dallas.

Speaker 2 (21:10):
Guess what he talked about.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
He talked about the running game, Like almost immediately talked
about the running game.

Speaker 4 (21:15):
Well, I think it's just go back improves that when
we do well early in the drive and we get
a few first downs and run the ball efficiently on
drives that we can you know, turn those into points.
And you know, when you can run the ball, it's
really important.

Speaker 2 (21:32):
And that's it.

Speaker 1 (21:33):
And so they only faced third down eight times and
one of those was with Jared Cinham in the game,
so really only seven and guess what, they were five
for eight on the day. Now, you're probably not going
to have that higher percentage against Houston because they're a
very good defense. But the whole point of it is
to not ever if you can find yourself in a
third and long against this defense, specifically this defense, you

(21:55):
can get away with it against Dallas, and they did
get away with it several times against Dallas, even in
third logs. But the Houston Texans, they feast on those situations,
are too fast, they are too well coordinated, it's a
defense that is hoping and then that's what they do.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
They feast on that.

Speaker 1 (22:13):
They put you in those situations and they know there's
not they're very little you can do. They choke you out.
So this has got to be the focus part start
of this thing. You have the better run game between
the two teams, you have a better run game.

Speaker 3 (22:24):
Establish it, yep. And it's a mentality, you know. And
it's the mentality that starts with the offensive line and
those receivers blocking as well, and those tight ends blocking
as well. And you saw all that working against the Cowboys. Again,
the Cowboys are really bad defense. But Boenickx's words really
put it in perspective there. And we have sometimes the
misconception that these guys just want to go back and
sling it.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
You know, let's just throw the ball all over the yard.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Coach, Well, not necessarily, and bo Nicks just articulated that
he feels most comfortable when the running game is leaned
upon first, and so let's hand the ball off, you know,
to start the game and establish that physicality.

Speaker 2 (23:01):
Fire out of our stands.

Speaker 3 (23:02):
And go hit somebody instead of dropping, you know, taking
a drop and getting attacked as an offensive lineman. The
offense of lineman don't want to pass set. That means
you're the punching bag. You want to punch, You want
to fire out of your stance and hit somebody.

Speaker 2 (23:18):
And when you.

Speaker 3 (23:18):
Establish that right off the bat, then they have to
protect themselves from that. Then they have to guard themselves
against your first step. And then that play action pass
opens up. When everyone's flowing one direction, they think it's
a run again, they think are about to get gashed again. Nope,
we're going on the opposite direction and guys are running free.
And bow Nicks feels much more comfortable when that's the case.

Speaker 1 (23:36):
And I don't think there's going to be any any
point in this game where you're going to be so
far down where you feel like you should have to
sling it around, right. There shouldn't be a moment where
you are one dimensional.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
This is gonna be a fourth quarter game. This is
going to be a very close game.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
It's going to come down to some of the smaller things,
like some penalties, maybe some special teams, which is a
little scary because you're not gonna have Marvin Mems. But
we're just going to hope that they have a really
good plan for that. But when we talk about specifically
for the offense, you should be able to stay in
your game plan for the majority of this thing. There
shouldn't be a weird uncomfortable because they're doing something to

(24:09):
us that we didn't see coming. So get into it.
Get into your offense, be better on first and second down,
get yourself into a second end manageable or third and short,
and work the ball down the field and know that
it's gonna be all afternoon, just like that. This isn't
one of those you get to take some shots. I
mean you will, because you've got to keep them honest,
but it's not against like against Dallas, where everybody got

(24:32):
so excited when they're starting to open up the offense
and push the ball down the field.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
There's a reason they could do that.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
That secondary was decimated by injury. They're signing guys off
the street just to have warm bodies to play for Dallas.
That's not the case in this game. And again, I'm
not trying to build up the Houston Texans defense to
be anything more than it is. It's a very good unit.
But the point of it is it's gonna be a
long afternoon. You're gonna make it a long afternoon on
them too. But just you're gonna have to take what

(24:57):
you get. You're gonna have to work yourself in a position.
And the worst thing you could possibly do is set
your defense up in a bad situation with either a turnover,
you take some sacks, or you are getting off the
field quickly on three and outs and then the defense
is on the.

Speaker 2 (25:11):
Field too much. Yeah, it's gonna you're gonna have to
grind it out.

Speaker 3 (25:14):
Though it's not gonna like you, like you mentioned, it's
not gonna look like what it did at Empower Field
against the cowboys, the little cowboys out there, and you
might make a mistake, you might have a turnover.

Speaker 2 (25:25):
You know, you might get down. How are you gonna
handle that?

Speaker 3 (25:28):
Because the energy is gonna be at Energy Field is
gonna be pretty high because.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
You did there.

Speaker 3 (25:33):
You know it's gonna be loud. They know they need
this game. They finally feel like they're clicking a little bit,
so they're gonna come out hot, and you're gonna have
to deal with that, and you might have some some
difficult drives.

Speaker 2 (25:46):
You got to stay with it.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
These receivers blocking in the running game is gonna be
huge Pat Bryant, you know, Troy Franklin. With Marvin Mims out,
we're gonna rely on some young players to step up.

Speaker 2 (25:56):
And this is a big game for these.

Speaker 3 (25:57):
Young players, for Troy frank Franklin, for for Pat Bryant,
for Chris Abrams Drain, for RJ. Harvey, big game for
young players in a really crucial moment. I know the
Broncos are in first place, but this is the type
of game that's really going to.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
Test these guys.

Speaker 3 (26:12):
And this is also the type of game where you
can endear yourself to your veteran teammates and show that
these guys are going to be with us hand in
hand as we march into the playoffs. We can rely
on these guys. So I think Sean Payton wants to
put Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin in a position to
help the team win. I think the game plan is
going to be to try to get these.

Speaker 2 (26:33):
Guys the ball.

Speaker 3 (26:34):
You know, Cortland Sutton is going to be their main
target to stop. So it's going to open up things
for these young guys and they're going to have to
stay a step up and make some place.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
I hope we don't see any no look passes from
bow this week. I think we're good on that.

Speaker 2 (26:48):
Is that what you saw a no look past?

Speaker 3 (26:50):
And that sort of looked like to me, what do
you think? Well, my buddy Ja Plumber said it wasn't
a no look past. It was that he couldn't see.
There was a jumble of bodies in front of him.
There was five four offensive linemen right there, and oftentimes
you can see and you have to throw to a
spot where you know the guy is going to be. Now,
he misjudged that ball, but he was thrown blind because
he couldn't see, and so he was kind of throwing

(27:11):
it to the spot where.

Speaker 2 (27:12):
He thought he was going to be.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Yeah, we had Ja con and he he defended both
a little bit too. He said, I think that he
you're sometimes you look at for a lane to throw
the ball, and we noticed he didn't have any deflections
in this last game against Dallas, So maybe there is
something to that that there was a there was a
there was a lane there that he was throwing the
ball through and it just so happened the rookie wide
receiver maybe went a little far.

Speaker 2 (27:36):
We don't, Yeah, we don't. We don't know.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
It's hard to know how these guys are coached up.
What the route was actually supposed to be. Was it
a slant? Was it a post? Was it an under
was it a dig? I mean, what was he trying
to Was he supposed to sit there? Was he supposed
to come through the window? He took five steps? Was
he supposed to take three? There's a lot of things
that can contribute to an interception like that where it's
behind him.

Speaker 2 (27:55):
Not bad throw by boat, no doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
But oftentimes there's more to it than just bad throws,
now right.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
I love Jake. He's great.

Speaker 1 (28:07):
By the way, reminder, great breakdowns with Nate and Jake
on on your You guys puts called the walk through
the walkthrough thank you on Gorilla. Yeah, it's really really good,
really thanks stuff. Yeah, we go out on the field
and walk through some of these plays, some of these
significant plays in the game. Sometimes it's plays that nobody
really pays attention to. But Jake, you know, at being

(28:27):
the season play.

Speaker 3 (28:27):
I mean, he's got one hundred and thirty six starts
under his belt, so he sees a lot of stuff
that Adam Troutman thing that you didn't think was a
legitimate penalty.

Speaker 2 (28:36):
I did.

Speaker 3 (28:36):
I did think so, and we broke that down on
the walk through. You can check it out. But yeah,
there's an art to setting a pick, and he was
not very artful in that moment.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
He kind of came off.

Speaker 3 (28:46):
The line of scrimmage and engaged his defensive player with
his hands like he was blocking, and then and then
caused a collision with the other guy.

Speaker 2 (28:53):
I don't think it was I think it was a
good call by the refs. It was really nice. Grace wetpants,
by the way, the breakdown, Oh thanks. I pulled him
up my belly button like a coach. Hey, hey guys, Hey, hey, guys,
come on, let's go. If you want to be a coach,
you got to master those four phrases. Guys, that's one. Hey,
that's two. Come on, and let's go. If you and
you just jumple them up and mix them guys, come on,

(29:14):
let's go. Hey guys, let's go.

Speaker 3 (29:17):
And then you got to say a few things in
between those, like get your head out of here, you.

Speaker 2 (29:20):
Know, stuff like that.

Speaker 3 (29:21):
Okay, but you can be a coach if you just
master those four.

Speaker 2 (29:25):
I feel like I just like to coaching one on one. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (29:27):
Now I'm wondering all the coaches that are struggling in
the league if they're just missing one or two of
those and that's the difference.

Speaker 3 (29:32):
Yeah, it's strategic when you use them. And how of course,
and like you know, when you're in Hawaii, aloha can
mean different things.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
Okay, mouhallow can mean different things. Guys.

Speaker 3 (29:45):
Hey, that can mean Hey, it means a lot of
different things. Let's go that can mean different things.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
I mean different things. Yeah, and you want to pick
the relationship to other things. Yeah, let's let's get through
this late a little bit.

Speaker 1 (29:56):
We start with grants sense in that the bengalsday playing
the Bears. Flaco fakes a toss to the left foot,
legs right throws it hollowey, Brady Higgins catch us up,
the five runs under the.

Speaker 5 (30:09):
End hold touchdown, Bengals, a beautiful rainbow downfield by Joe Flacco.

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Dead horde, they've laugh of I just want to playing
the highlights Cincinnati's ESPNT fifteen thirty and the Bengals radio
network on this game. The Bears, though they are missing
DeAndre Swift, so you have in your fantasy lineup, look
at somewhere else. The Bears are favored on the road. Grant,
how you feel about that?

Speaker 6 (30:36):
Oh, this is a bounce back game for the Bengals,
getting almost back.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
To five hundred.

Speaker 6 (30:41):
Joe Flacco gonna target Jamar Chase thirty two times in
this game. Give me the Bengals at home, Hoday, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:48):
I'm with Grant.

Speaker 3 (30:49):
I think the Bengals are gonna bounce back from that
devastating almost thirty eight thirty seven or thirty nine to
thirty eight loss to the Jets.

Speaker 2 (30:55):
Brutal, but I think they will bounce back.

Speaker 3 (30:57):
And fingers crossed from Mart gets the those targets because I've.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
Got him on the fans. Mate.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Now we got a big spread here with the Green
Bay Packers and the Panthers all of a shotgun, with
Wilson to his left, Love gets the snack, He's back.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
The pass look fires over the middle.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
That's what inside the fifteenth down of the ten angling
left five ken of the episode.

Speaker 1 (31:17):
Touchdown, Free Bay, Tucker craped again.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
It's second of the night, fits one Brooks.

Speaker 1 (31:23):
Twenty four Bryan Radkey on Westwood One. Packers are favored
by twelve and a half on this one.

Speaker 2 (31:29):
Nate, what do you think? Yeah, I think the Packers
will win. I don't think they'll cover that number there.
It's a big number. Yeah, it is a big number.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
And you know they had a big win on national
TV last week.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
I think they're gonna let down the tiny bit. They'll
find a way to win. Though.

Speaker 1 (31:44):
Okay, Grant breakdown back in this game.

Speaker 2 (31:47):
He is, he's cleared.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
I like the Packers to win, but I like the
Panthers to cover. Im the Panthers covering as well. The
Chargers are on the road versus Tennessee. Herbert sets and throws,
floating it.

Speaker 5 (31:57):
Down the right sideline, McConkey has open, drops it down
the sideline into the inside a lad The conkey touchdown
makes it twenty to three Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (32:09):
That's Kevin Coogler Westwood one on the calls. So Chargers
are favored by nine and a half over the Titans,
who yet to get a home win grants.

Speaker 6 (32:18):
And they will yet to win again because they and
the cat. What did camboard say? We asked, they are
still didn't say that the Chargers win. Chargers cover all right, dates.

Speaker 3 (32:30):
Yeah, you're from Nashville, because you're the only ten I see. No,
they're not gonna win. The Chargers are gonna win. Okay, yeah,
let's say, will they cover? Uh no, they won't. Whoa
excuse me?

Speaker 1 (32:43):
A seven or a point game. That'd be a nice
little moral victory there for the Titans. There's no moral
victories in the nfter on man, hey, there will be
for the Betty public. The Patriots, hosting the Falcons, works
from the left pass of the thirty nine.

Speaker 6 (32:56):
He takes the staffs back to throw.

Speaker 1 (32:58):
He loads up a long line.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Do what a weapon? A pretty throw?

Speaker 1 (33:09):
Love Sochie Scott Zolac ninety five, The Sports Up, Patriots
Radio Network. Patriots favored by five and a half. No
ramondra Stevenson in this game. Just a little heads up
for everybody out there.

Speaker 5 (33:19):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
The Falcons have been all.

Speaker 1 (33:20):
Over the place, but they are gonna get Michael Pennocks
Junior back for this game.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
Nate, I think the Patriots quite a story. I mean,
one of the best stories in the NFL this this year.
Even though we don't like watching them win, they're playing
some really good football. I think they are gonna win,
and they are gonna cover. I think they'll win by seven.
They're gonna win two.

Speaker 6 (33:37):
What do you think, Grant, Yeah, I agree all of
us on the Patriots seven and two who saw that
coming at the beginning of the year.

Speaker 2 (33:42):
Incredible, Colts are rolling.

Speaker 1 (33:44):
Fourth recis one trip today for the Colts.

Speaker 2 (33:46):
Mark out past it.

Speaker 5 (33:48):
Jonathan Taylor counts up a block, He's out of ten,
he's at the five.

Speaker 3 (33:51):
He's gonna again touch down.

Speaker 5 (33:54):
Jonathan Taylor on a nineteen yard will pop nuts.

Speaker 1 (34:02):
Matt Taylor, the fan nice and one Han FM Indianapolis.
Colts are favored in Pittsburgh y three and a half
Steelers are desperate for this one Dayton Yeah, I think
old Man Rogers.

Speaker 2 (34:13):
Is losing steam.

Speaker 3 (34:15):
Jonathan Taylor leading the league with eight hundred and fifty
yards rushing.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
They're gonna ride him all the way to a victory
in Pittsburgh. I think they're gonna win.

Speaker 1 (34:23):
They're gonna cover rants, knock so fast.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Old Man Rogers sixteen.

Speaker 6 (34:28):
Touchdowns, five interceptions on the air.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
A lot of teams would love.

Speaker 6 (34:30):
To have him playing quarterback for him and I like
the Sorry, I like the Steelers to upset the Colts
at home this week. Like you said, desperate for a win, Okay,
I like it.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
Jacksonville they're in Las Vegas to take on any Regies.

Speaker 5 (34:46):
Cover fight, fake hump, fake Firesoulfield got that line up the.

Speaker 1 (34:55):
Fire twenty one your cutout path Bell, Frank Ranji, Jaguars
Radio Network, w j x l SO. Jacksonville favorite by
two and a half. Both teams coming off by Jacksonville losing.
Boy uh, Travis Hunter, he's gonna be out for a

(35:16):
little while. A cl Intact though. That's great news for Travis,
but he's gonna be out for a bit.

Speaker 2 (35:21):
Grayant, what do you think, dude?

Speaker 3 (35:22):
Ball?

Speaker 2 (35:24):
Raiders suck? Give me the Jags? Oh, there you go.
What do you think dates? I think the Raiders are
gonna pull this one out, all right. I think that
they're due for one, and I think they're gonna win
by four. Okay, you got you said the Raiders are
going back.

Speaker 1 (35:39):
The Raiders are gonna win. Okay, the Raiders are gonna
Wait to make sure you didn't center, No, I didn't,
I didn't stutter.

Speaker 3 (35:45):
I think Jacksonville's kind of fools gold a little bit
early in the season. I don't think they're as good
as those first three or four games suggested.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
The Raiders are gonna find a way to get this
done at home.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
The game of the week, the Buffalo Bill's hosting the
Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 3 (35:57):
And off the cook through a hole and talk to
it to the open and he is g ohn e
God twenty.

Speaker 2 (36:05):
Ten five touchdown James Cook as the cook is in
the kitchen.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Chris Brown WGR Sports Radio five fifty Buffalo. I guess
he's actually favored on the road in Buffalo in this game.
But boy, we really want the Bills to win this one,
do we not, Nathan, we do.

Speaker 2 (36:26):
I don't think they will.

Speaker 3 (36:27):
I think the Chiefs are going to w N and
they are going to c O V e R.

Speaker 2 (36:34):
They're going to win by four. Do you like that number?
I just if you're filling that number four the last
two times? Yeah, Gora ahead, what do you got?

Speaker 6 (36:44):
Josh Allen owns Patrick Mahomes and the regular season not
so much in the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (36:49):
I like that trend to continue. Give me the Bills.
I'm reading hard for the Bills. So that's just my
rooting interest.

Speaker 1 (36:57):
Are you there?

Speaker 5 (36:57):
You go?

Speaker 1 (36:57):
That is a Week nine in the NFL. Excited about
the slate. There's there's a few blowouts predicted here. Detroit's
favored by nine and a half, Green Bays favorite by
twelve and a half, Chargers nine and a half. Uh,
you got fourteen and a half for the Rams Saints. Wow.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
So some of these games are predicted to be kind
of ugly? Is to our point.

Speaker 1 (37:14):
We're talking earlier, like there's a lot sidedness. Yeah, happening
in the league right now.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
So after the.

Speaker 3 (37:20):
Broncos beat the Texans and it's you know, two o'clock,
are you a are you a single game guy?

Speaker 2 (37:27):
