Speaker 1 (00:00):
There's a really special groove and really proud of how
we battled and you know, we just got to keep
on improving.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Lutz steps twice to the left and says I'm ready
to go snap placement kick on the way. It is good.
Denver has come to Houston and beaten the Texans by
a final score of eighteen to fifteen. That was the
(00:26):
only lead of the game, and it occurred on the
final play of the game as the Broncos come back
from a fifteen to seven deficit at the end of
the third quarter. They score eleven points in the fourth
and they beat the Houston Texans eighteen to fifteen. By
the way, that's the tenth game in NFL history that
ended with the score eighteen fifteen, second involving the Broncos.
(00:49):
Do you remember the first? You got to go back
to two thousand and eleven, a road game in Miami.
The Broncos, with under eight minutes to go, were trailer
the Dolphins fifteen nothing, and somebody named Tebow was playing quarterback,
And when it was all said and done, Matt Prater
in overtime hit a field goal and the Broncos came
(01:11):
from behind and beat the Dolphins eighteen to fifteen. Tim
Tebow ran in a two point conversion to tie the
game at fifteen. The late great Damarius Thomas had a
touchdown catch, and Daniel Fels, remember that name, the tight
end for the Broncos, had a touchdown pass reception in
that game as well. But the Broncos here today went
(01:31):
at eighteen fifteen. Welcome to our postgame show. Dave Logan,
Rick Lewis here, Susie Wargen in the locker room. She'll
have an interview or two. In a moment. We'll hear
from quarterback Bone Knicks as well.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, that Tebow season was certainly memorable, and this one
seems to be probably go down as a memorable season
as well. David, you said it last week, this could be.
It just feels like we have the magic this year.
The way this team finishes and in's some unlikely wins,
(02:03):
it just feels like something special happening right here for
the Denver Broncos.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
YEP, they find ways to win. It certainly wasn't to
vintage Denver offense in the first three quarters they had
seven points. But again, and I think I reminded our
audience in the second half that we've seen this before,
where this offense, this kid that he just seems to
(02:27):
have some magic. In that fourth quarter he had a
twenty five yard run on the final drive that put
Denver in great field position. When it was all said
and done, the Broncos went forty eight yards and six
plays and they took fifty seconds off the clock. Pat
Bryan had a huge catch on third down and eleven
that he caught it and then was second maybe third
(02:47):
effort lean the football in both hands forward, dragging a defender,
picked up the first down and ultimately that helped them
continue the drive. The first touchdown drive of the game
and that occurred when RJ. Harvey caught a route twenty
seven yard touchdown pass from bow Nicks. That was a
(03:08):
sixty one yard drive in eight plays and with twelve
twenty eight to go. That was the Broncos first touchdown
of the second half, second touchdown of the game. But
with the two point converden it tied the game at fifteen.
So we'll head to the text line. You can join
us if you like two A five to six to
six nine zero. Through three quarters, the Broncos had eleven
(03:36):
plays in Houston territory eleven. The Texans had thirty four
plays in Denver territory through three quarters. But again, the
magic that I've referred to several times this season because
I've witnessed it. In the fourth quarter, Denver had nine
snaps of offense in Houston territory. The Texans had zero
(03:58):
snaps in Denver terror Toy Texans had thirteen first downs
in the first half. They had two first downs in
the entire second half. Denver's defense really clamped down in fairness.
As we mentioned throughout the course of the game. CJ. Stroud,
the starting quarterback, injured on a hit by Chris Abrams
Drain certainly not a dirty hit at all, was taking
(04:21):
to the tent and sustained a concussion. He was out,
and so Davis Mills, the backup quarterback, was in. But
it does speak to Rick the importance of having a
backup quarterback. I think the Broncos hope that Jared Stoodham
doesn't have to play, but if he does, I think
they feel pretty confident about his ability. I think we
all do.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
And as you said, Davis Mills, he looked pretty good
out there. Yep, he's a veteran, he's started a lot
of games in the league. I don't think they really
lost much honestly when he was in there. But this
game today belongs to the defense. With two of the
best defenses in the league on the field, I think
we knew that the defense was going to have to
(05:01):
play the game today to win this football game, and
that's exactly what they did. They didn't give a touchdown
the entire game. The Broncos defense stepped up, then the
offense stepped up when they needed to once again in
the fourth quarter, seven one, four eight, big time road
win today. Love this Broncos team in their fight. Go
Broncos nine to seven, seven four, four, four and two.
(05:24):
Now when we have to play against the opponent's officials, okay,
three zero three four eight nine. Is it just me
or does it seem like the reps are consistently making
questionable calls against the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (05:39):
Yeah, it kind of feels that way to me. But yeah,
I mean, I don't know what you think. There's always
there's always going to be a call or two as
you try to be fair minded. I'm trying to think
back in this game, honestly that the ending was so exciting,
which call did I object to the most Beday's kickoff
(06:05):
return that they ruled that he caught in the playing field.
That was at least from the replay that I saw,
that was. I mean, that was a no call. His
feet were in the end zone, so it's it's hard
and unless you reach your arms out over the goal
line right to catch the ball in the playing field.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
So I don't know. Was there another one, Ricky, you remember,
I don't remember to tell you that, but yeah, it
felt like there was more than one in the game.
And also notable to remember patchter Tan didn't play today
and this defense Marvel Lims didn't play today either. Yeah,
this defense played really well. They did miss Mims today
(06:46):
for sure.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
I agree.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Special teams struggled. I thought pretty much the entire game.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
Houston offensively in the first half had one hundred and
eighty one yards of offense. In the second half they
had eighty seven. So when you total all up, Houston
had seventy two snaps for two hundred and sixty five yards.
That's an average per snap of three point seven yards.
That's that's winning football from a defensive standpoint, uh seven
(07:11):
to four to nine nine. Congratulations Dave on you'r six.
It is wonderful to have the Broncos be the team
winning in the fourth quarter. Not very long ago, Broncos
had repeat seasons of losing in the third and fourth.
That's a good point. I was gonna say this too, Dave.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
It's only fitting the Broncos come from behind to win
on your sixth hundredth game that you've called for the
Denver Broncos. And I'm very proud and honored to be
a very small part of that with you. Then, I
appreciate it. I enjoyed doing games with you, Rick, I
appreciate that. Hey, it always it's always better to win, absolutely,
(07:46):
you know. I mean, how else can I say that?
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (07:50):
Seven to four to six. I was yelling at the
TV constantly the Broncos quarterbacks should pick up and run
and get games of five or more yards each time. Yeah,
there were a couple of times, one of which I said,
he climbed the pocket and looked like he could run,
and he threw it and was an incomplete pass.
Speaker 1 (08:11):
I started thinking like maybe they were coaching him to
not run and not take off so much because he.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Had opportunities and he's not run nearly as much now.
Late in this game. There were two design quarterback runs.
But I'm talking about bow feeling pressure, not liking what
he sees downfield, and escaping the pocket. He's not done
that as much as we saw in his rookie season.
Houston on third downs, oh for their last nine. Well
(08:41):
for the game, they were three for seventeen. They were
oh for in the second half. Houston did not convert
a third down in the second half oh for seven,
So three for seventeen for the game. That's a credit
to the to the Denver defense.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Denver lost the turnover battle tune to nothing on the road.
Not too many games you win when you do that.
But that's how good the defense played today.
Speaker 2 (09:11):
Yeah, oh, you know what, thanks to this text five
to five to nine clip on the return call not
called leverage, not called the other two bat calls. You
are exactly right. Certainly the punt return, which was if
memory serves, forty five yards that should have been negated
with the block. It wasn't much of a block, but
(09:34):
it's a block at this level in the back. And
the leverage call I saw once and it looks similar
to what I saw in Indianapolis.
Speaker 4 (09:42):
What they call there.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
They called it on the Broncos. Oh, that's right, which
cost them the game. Just wanted to reiterate that.
Speaker 2 (09:56):
Six helmet to helmet no call on the hit on Dobbins. Well,
you're talking about the one where Lassiter came up from
his corner spot. If if that's the one he and
Dobbins took a big shot. He's running with the ball,
so you're not going to get the same You're not
(10:17):
going to get the same sort of call that you
would on a defenseless receiver. I'd have to go back
and say, I know it was a big shot. I'd
have to go back and look at it whether it
was helmet to helmet or not. Seven nine six one oops. Refreshed.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
But like you said, running backs take helmet to helmet
hits all the time, part of the job.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
Six oh five four eight four. How many sacks did
the Broncos finish with. I think it was four, right, Yep,
they had four.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
You got one from a Dre Greenlaw early in the game,
one from Zach Allen, a half a sack from Malcolm
Roach from Jonathan Cooper, half a sack for Tillman.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Seven to four to eight. Oh, the Broncos really making
it hard for my wife to sleep on Sunday nights.
Last week was much better. Uh seven to five, six
oh Darren Rizzy should be unemployed by the time he
touches down in Denver. Congrats on six hundred calls. Dave
Darren Rizzy is the special teams coach of the Broncos.
Highly regarded for sure. You know, the punt return was
(11:32):
one I'm trying to think was there another special teams
the muffed punt, the block field goal and the muff
punt and with It's amazing how I can wipe out
negative plays like in a matter of like I don't know,
three minutes after the game's done, I'm done with any
negative plays.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
Yeah, and you know one thing I did worry about
with mems out is uh punt returns. And when you're
a punt returner, phil punt returner, just catch the ball,
don't do anything else, just secure the ball. And he
didn't do it and it cost him. Ma'am should be
(12:12):
back next week or Thursday, let's hope. So it's a
Thursday game.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Yeah, you never know about concussions, but we would certainly hope.
So five oh five nine seven seven. That was but
ugly but a win. Hope they get healed up and
beat up on the Raiders. Raiders coming in on Thursday night,
so we'll be a short week for the Broncos. Houston
on first downs twenty seven snaps on first down they
had a total of seventy yards, which is two point
(12:39):
six yards per play, which is great for a defense.
Here's Sean Payton in the postgame press conference.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
Because it's third down before that in the previous series.
Speaker 6 (12:50):
Yeah, it was a nipple protection, which is kind of
hard to describe, but it was a movement throw and
the coverage kind of when that happens if you're in zone,
the zone moves with the move and then he found
he found a lane and did it with his feet.
It's one of the one of the strengths of a
quarterback that can move and I think that was one
(13:12):
of the things that changed with their starter going out.
You know, we still have an accurate passer, but the
plays that he can make with his feet aren't the
same as the starter. So that was an important play.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Donald, you had some stretches with things the way you.
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Wanted to.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
Listen.
Speaker 6 (13:37):
I think at halftime it's funny and your team grows
and morphs and evolves into something.
Speaker 4 (13:46):
I don't think they.
Speaker 6 (13:47):
I don't think there was a person in that locker
room that felt like we were losing this game.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
Now.
Speaker 6 (13:52):
We all felt like we needed to do certain things better,
all right, But I think, uh, I think there was
a lot of confident and it's coming into.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
The second half.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Was a confidence.
Speaker 6 (14:04):
It's just what have I said before, it's once it
repeats itself. You can't wish for confidence, right, and it's
born out of what demonstrated ability. So you answered your
own question, how do you feel just.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
About the resilience of making up for some key in
your players.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
And yeah, that was big.
Speaker 6 (14:22):
You know, this was the first time, you know, Smith
comes to me with that computer and and then we
turn in the injuries and this is the first time.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Like you're like, up till up till today, we've been
fairly fortunate.
Speaker 6 (14:37):
And when you're turning in the defensive player of the
year and you're you know, it's.
Speaker 4 (14:44):
Hard to hit send. You know they're inactive, but it's
still hard to hit that button anyway you.
Speaker 7 (14:49):
Have you have to block field obviously, and then.
Speaker 6 (14:52):
Yeah, we'll look at that on film follow that without
without watching on tape. My my my concerned was just
the late subs. It was a little bit sloppy in
the kicking game. We'll get that cleaned up, or we'll
find someone else that can do it.
Speaker 4 (15:11):
I will stop it stops in the right.
Speaker 2 (15:14):
At the goal line.
Speaker 8 (15:15):
You had to goal line stand er.
Speaker 6 (15:18):
That was pretty big because look, when you get down there,
it doesn't happen often. But like one of the I've
been involved in maybe three Pittsburgh, was a game when
you have a goal line stand Now, sometimes they go
further on fourth down and then you take over, but
(15:40):
when you have that on the one yard line like that,
the emotional swing that that creates for your team and
what it does to the team that you know now
they had the penalty then, but that was significant. And
and that gets back to what I said at the start,
(16:01):
our front versus their front.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Legs.
Speaker 5 (16:05):
You passed up some particular what the short names he's
looking up.
Speaker 6 (16:09):
What you wanted, like listen, we don't talk about that,
like you know. In other words, his eyes are within
the progression. And then but you got to be careful
you don't tell that player too much when it comes
to something like that, you know what I mean, Like
do you inhale or exhale when you're back swinging a golf?
(16:29):
I don't want anyone ask me that question, all right, So,
but I think there are certainly design runs.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
You saw.
Speaker 6 (16:39):
Again, we got to keep working with his clock because
it gets quick. There's someone open, and there's some throws
he's going to want, you know, to correct.
Speaker 4 (16:49):
But that's a good problem to have. He doesn't take sex.
Speaker 9 (16:54):
Going down to change what you don't doing.
Speaker 4 (16:56):
I don't think we changed defensively.
Speaker 6 (17:02):
Maybe some of your cage rush principles dissipate a little bit.
You know, we knew, you know, he had knows had
a lot of experience, but how you rush him might
be a little different than than.
Speaker 10 (17:21):
Was it something going into the game that you saw or.
Speaker 6 (17:23):
Didn't Last night, we didn't do the school songs. We
had every one of their family members calling on the
video and each one said, hey, this is your play,
go make it.
Speaker 4 (17:34):
And so.
Speaker 6 (17:36):
He gets he gets the the video award. It's a
pirate route. We got the right coverage, We set it
up off of a half back choice and then all
of a sudden take off and like we're just starting
to see right in front of our eyes, a guy
that that we felt strongly about. He can go and
(17:59):
he and Dobbins that one two combination is is it's
nice to have as a coach, you guys.
Speaker 7 (18:07):
With success with running backs, especially in the passing game.
Order the course of Cortruitter as you see a young.
Speaker 6 (18:11):
Guy, well when you when you get these quarters coverages
and you get some of these defenses, I'm not saying
they're doubling the outside receivers, but man, I remember two
years ago here after that loss, and they sat in
that same coverage, and I thought, man, we used to gut.
Speaker 4 (18:31):
This coverage with the right but you had to have
the right people.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
And so we felt like it would be a game
where our j would have opportunities and Evan and sometimes
now they played a little bit more single safety zone
to support in the run game than we expected.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
And but.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
It's it's fantastic when you can have one of those
interior players be really really good at in the passing game, starting.
Speaker 7 (19:02):
Out with Aaron playing outside of the base and Chris
and Nicol just closed you like about Jaya putting it that.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
This old plan going in you guys, I mean had
a lot of great questions. Obviously, we weren't going to
go into it and we'll look at next week. You know,
we have Bass, we have Dime, we have Penny, we
have Nickel. All of them required decisions, and I thought
Bants and those guys did a good job with the
plan on how many snaps cream Law was going to play,
(19:29):
how we were going to use barn all the above.
It's it's it's difficult when.
Speaker 4 (19:35):
You lose someone.
Speaker 2 (19:36):
We're gonna head down as r J. Harvey standing by
with our Susie Wargen.
Speaker 10 (19:41):
All right, thanks Dave, Okay, r J. You Oh no,
it's just even me just talking. Yeah, exactly. It's a
little different down here differently. Hey, you are now the
what a cool thing. You have the most receiving touchdowns
by a rookie running back in franchise history. Did you
know you were going to get the ball that much?
You were the leading wide receiver in this game.
Speaker 11 (20:00):
I mean, it's I mean, we just it's just reps
every day. We just practiced those plays and you know,
we just executed it well today. So I'm just happy
for the guys and myself.
Speaker 10 (20:11):
So Sean just talked about in his press conference that
he did something with family members in a video last night.
Did you have something on there?
Speaker 11 (20:17):
Yeah, definitely the play that you show. It wasn't what
I scored on, but yeah, he did my parents. He
called my parents and they just said, let's go, RJ.
This is your play. And he did it for everybody,
you know, everybody. Wives was on the screen and girlfriends
and kids. It was a cool moment.
Speaker 10 (20:37):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 12 (20:38):
All right?
Speaker 10 (20:38):
Are you have enough of these last minute wins? Are
you wanting some? These are tough, aren't they? Welcome to
the NFL.
Speaker 11 (20:44):
As I got to the league, it's been a close
game pretty much every week except for last so you know,
that's just what the NFL is, you know, it's it's
nail body for sure.
Speaker 10 (20:52):
Absolutely our j last question for you and I chatted
in the pregame and you told me one of the
things you learned from JK was just his patience. And
we saw some runs today that look very JK ish.
Are you still continuing to learn?
Speaker 2 (21:03):
And definitely? Yeah.
Speaker 11 (21:05):
JK had a great game to day. You know, he
has some great cutbacks again as usually? Is this a
usual thing with AKA? I'm just glad to be in
a room with him and just continue to learn from
him and develop my game.
Speaker 10 (21:16):
All right, congrats on those touchdowns. Thank you, Dan, all Right,
Dave back up to you.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Susie, thank you. Yeah, he's an outstanding young rookie. Let's
head back and finish up the postgame press conference with
Champagne with.
Speaker 6 (21:29):
Wanting to play as much of the game on their
side of the field. And I felt in the kicking
game we didn't do enough to to leverage the field
position battle, and defensively fortunately be held up.
Speaker 4 (21:45):
So if you really, if you really paid.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
Attention to the game, I felt like our drives were
starting like to the far right or left, and their
drives were starting more towards midfield, and fortunately our defense
took care of that first blush.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Even strange that how does a gunning team.
Speaker 6 (22:07):
Maybe people thought you went well, if you recalled no
no one, that was never I don't know if you
recalled how he played at the end of last year,
he was.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
He did a lot. He's probably got the best.
Speaker 6 (22:22):
Hands on the team, So there was never any I mean,
at least internally, he's been We've been thrilled with his progress.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
Where he was agressive on defense.
Speaker 6 (22:34):
I think our plan today was a little bit more coverage.
Now the plans set on QB one.
Speaker 4 (22:43):
The numbers tell.
Speaker 6 (22:44):
You you know when you pressure or play man one. Thing
that happens for a quarterback when that happens is it
speeds up your decision making and you go right to hear.
When you mix the pressures with some sim pressures, that
can become a little bit more problematic. So our plan
(23:08):
was rushing coverage.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
And we'll plot it down real quickly here in TALLANOA
hu fungus to anybody with Susie Worgen, thank you.
Speaker 10 (23:17):
All right, thank you, Dave, all right, another nail bier,
But seven and two have you had a few of
these in your time though you've been around a while.
Speaker 13 (23:24):
So we did it a couple of weeks ago. I
against breaking the New York Giants. So very blessed to
be part of a team that has a lot of
grit to him. So I'm just excited to be part
of it and hopefully we can continue to win.
Speaker 10 (23:35):
Yeah, talk more about this defensive effort. And you guys
were out there, I think you had about ten more
minutes of possession than the offense did and just kept
going out and it was three and outs, three and outs,
three and outs, and then I know that you're kicking
yourself for a couple that you felt like you should
have had.
Speaker 2 (23:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (23:48):
Most definitely just trying to be the best team player
I can be, and that means I got to do
my job and come back down with a couple of
those throws. So definitely just part of the guys that
they stepped up, especially when we needed to and at
then the time, at the end of the day, it's
a team win and we just got to continue going
to the.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
Next all right.
Speaker 10 (24:03):
Last one huff coach shared in this press conference that
he did something different with like family videos last night,
families coming on and talking about different plays. Was that
just offense or did it happen for you guys too?
Speaker 2 (24:14):
I think that was just offense.
Speaker 13 (24:17):
I wasn't paying attention and meetings.
Speaker 10 (24:18):
I could have known if it would have happened.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
Oh yeah, got.
Speaker 10 (24:22):
All right, Well, now here we go. We got a
game coming up again really soon on Thursday night. How
do you get prepared for something like that?
Speaker 13 (24:29):
You know, just take care of the body first and foremost.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
It's a short week.
Speaker 13 (24:33):
Just go out there and just be on the details
as much as we can get the game plan simplified
and go out there and make some plays against the Raiders.
Speaker 10 (24:38):
So all right, appreciate it, Huff, good job, Thank you
so much.
Speaker 8 (24:40):
Appreciation.
Speaker 10 (24:41):
Okay, very good day. Back up to you.
Speaker 2 (24:44):
Okay, Susie, thank you very much. The performance of the
game now, Pat Bryant, a couple of catches for twenty yards,
huge third down catches, a young receiver that I think
really has a significant upside. The performance of the game
presented today by Shop BMW just like the Broncos, a
BMW place in any weather with industry leading next drive
(25:06):
all wheel drive technology. The lineup of BMWSAV vehicles is
the most Colorado capable vehicle lineup. The only place I
trust with my BMW is Shop and you should too.
Shop BMW one price, one person, one hour. The injury
report today is presented by Common Spirit Health, official healthcare
partner of the Denver Broncos. J. T. Gray was knocked
(25:30):
out of the game with a hamstring injury. He did
not return. Q Robinson Trin Sherfield left the game momentarily.
Both returned. Sherfield had a knee injury, but he was
back in the game, Robinson a shoulder injury. He was
back in the game as well. Final comments Rick Well.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
Denver lost the turnover battle two to zero, but won
the touchdown battle, which is of most importance, two to zero.
And the defense showed up. Thought they would offense pretty disappointing,
I would say for about three quarters plus. But we
knew going in it was going to be a tough
(26:09):
road against a really good Houston defense. Got to give
them credit, give them their props, but bow Knicks money
once again down the stretch. That was the difference for
this football team. And young guys making plays, rookies r. J.
Harvey and Pat Bryant making plays down the stretch. It's
got to make you feel good about the future of
(26:31):
this football team. They're going to continue to get better.
Speaker 2 (26:34):
Yep. Houston. By the way, throughout the first seven games
there were three and four. They've given up a total
of thirteen points in those seven games in the fourth quarter.
Today the Broncos get eleven in the fourth quarter, and
that's three more than the Texans got. When it's all
said and done, we're waiting bow Knicks, who was going
to join us here shortly. We can tell you this

Good Lawyers, changing lives. Let's head down to the locker
room talk with the starting quarterback of the Denver Broncos
Boon Knicks Boe. It's Dave Logan. I'd ask you, like,
what's up in this fourth quarter? Because you're starting to
give people heart palpitations. How can you quantify just sort
of what takes place? And we've seen it several times
(27:37):
this year. Today eleven points in the fourth quarter and
you find a way to win the game.
Speaker 14 (27:43):
Yeah, we just knew it was gonna be a patient game.
Speaker 15 (27:45):
We knew they were a good defense, it was gonna
be tough, and we just had to play the field
position battle there at the end and then we got
it close enough and got the fill at the end.
Speaker 2 (27:55):
You I thought the big play in that last drive
was your twenty I called it a skimper twenty five
yard run. Did you just you just saw an open lane,
just decided to take it.
Speaker 15 (28:09):
Play a couple of times to them a few different ways,
and we just there was a good gap trout and
made a good block and the d lion all overran
it and the safety's kind of ran with the concept
and there was nobody on the back side of the field.
So it was just one of those times that the
scramble works and you were able to get a big chunk.
Speaker 2 (28:26):
Yeah, I'll get you out of here on this again.
I talk about I mean, you're the quarterback of the
team on the offensive side, but the defense today does
not give up a touchdown twice stopped Houston from the
end zone on a goal to goal situation inside the five.
Got to make you feel pretty good. You practice against
(28:46):
them all the time, but to see them in action
and what you've seen in the first eight games of
the season, it's pretty special.
Speaker 15 (28:52):
Yeah, that was huge, and they you know, whenever we
call on and they answer the call and they do
a good job. And those stops were huge and limited
that team the field goals was huge because I was
a good football team, and we knew they were gonna
play really good defense, and we kind of matched theirs,
and you know, played really good and we scored when
we had the opportunities, and we scored touchdowns. And I
(29:14):
think that was the biggest difference is we didn't have
to settle for field goals, and then there at the
end we got the last second field goal, which was
all we needed.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Yep, Hey, congratulations, We'll see you this week. Thank you
you bet bo Nicks in the locker room. He's ready
to get on the plane. A question for you, Dave.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
You think you're good for another six hundred and if so,
can you take me along for the ride? Yeah, I've
been riding your coat tails now for nine years. In
more years do we have?
Speaker 2 (29:42):
Hey, listen, I'm feeling good. I don't know about six
hundred more, but I'm but I'm feeling good. I love
what I do. Congratulations, but I appreciate that. Always always
good to work with you, Rick, And you know what,
it just makes it even better when they can find
ways to win. It's been an exciting season thus far.
I said, I'm not even sure what game it was
(30:02):
that I thought maybe there was something special about this year.
It was a few weeks ago. Denver now has won
six consecutive games after starting the season one and two,
and they are seven to two atop the AFC West leaderboard.
Early score in Buffalo the Bills lead the Chiefs seven
to nothing. Now we look Ahead, presented by College Invest

a plane from Houston get back about seven o'clock tonight,
but it's going to be a very short week for
(30:44):
coaches and players as Thursday night, the Las Vegas Raiders
roll into town. Four appropriately Thursday Night football from in
power Field at Mile High six fifteen kickoff Thursday night,
the Broncos hosting the Raiders from empower Field at Mile High.
And then, after a ten day wait, guess who's coming
(31:05):
to town on November sixteenth. It'll be the team that
has been in the last three Super Bowls and has
dominated the AFC West the last nine years, the Kansas
City Chiefs. Broncos hosting the Chiefs Sunday, November sixteenth at
two twenty five from Empower Field at Mile High. That
will do it from NRG Stadium here in Houston. It's
(31:28):
been a short trip, but a good one as the
Broncos on the road find a way to beat the
Houston Texans by a final score of eighteen to fifteen.
For Susie wardin my partner Rick Lewis, I'm Dave Logan.
We head back to the KOI Sports Desk in the
Mile High City and check in with Ryan Edwards.
Speaker 8 (31:45):
Thank you very much, Dave.
Speaker 5 (31:46):
Tremendous call as always, and yeah, they just sort of
find a way. It feels like whatever lean you might
have about this team so far this year, it almost
haves to suspend some of it. And you get into
the fourth quarter because even in those final moments, you'll like,
all right, somebody's gonna make a play. Boonenik's r J Harvey.
They really stood up today and it was great.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Yeah, you know what, Ryan, and you and I have
talked about this and I don't talk much about my
playing career because it was eons ago, but I fortunately
played on a team that earned the nickname the Cardiac Kids.
We found ways to come from behind. And I can
tell you this from in that locker room. The feeling
in the locker room was we just knew that one
(32:28):
of us was going to find a way to make
a play. Whether it was a catch or a catch
and run or something. We knew that we were going
to find a way. And it became so contagious. And
that is a powerful thing. I think I'm unable to
quantify exactly what it is biologically, but it's a powerful
(32:48):
emotion that players get. And this is starting to feel
to me a little bit sort of like that season
you think they're out of it and all of a
sudden they make two or three plays and here they
go in the fourth quarter. So six game winning streak,
seven to two on the season. I don't think anybody
had this team winning seven of their first nine games,
(33:10):
and now you get two divisional games back to back
at home the Raiders and then the Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (33:18):
Incredible stuff. Congratulations on six hundred, my friend. Look forward
to chopping it up with you tomorrow three o'clock.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Appreciate you, Ryan, thank you, Appreciate you.
Speaker 5 (33:25):

Speaker 2 (35:41):
Sean?
Speaker 8 (35:43):
Oh, I'm doing great, man, How are you?
Speaker 3 (35:46):
I'm doing good? Okay, this is a couple of quick points.
It's interesting all week you guys are talking about, like
on the Zoo, how this is gonna be a big
test for the offense and we're interested to see how
the office is going to react today. And it's like
they played the same way they did and all the
other games, you understand, Ryan, So like, how can we
tell when the offense is taking a step forward? If
like against the best defense, you know they play like
(36:09):
this slow fourth quarter game, and then against the Giants
it feels like a slow fourth quarter game. I don't
know how we really like quantify that as like, you know,
people are going to like they're not really respecting us, Ryan,
Like on the National perspective, they still think we're like,
you know, getting by off easy wins. Then when CJ
shroud him getting that concussion and people, you know, they're
gonna like try to qualify his win, like what blanket
(36:30):
off right now?
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Yeah, so you.
Speaker 3 (36:33):
Know, like it's like they're always gonna be like Aqua,
Like it's always it's a hurdle we gotta jump. And
now it's like, you know, I mean, I feel good
that we got the win streak, you know, but it's
just like, I just don't know how to feel about
this win. I mean, it feels good to win, but
it's like they're not gonna respect us still, you know,
they're so want.
Speaker 8 (36:47):
To I'm not really true. I understand where you're going
with that.
Speaker 5 (36:51):
You know, I often said, Sean, is my perspective is
that you do enough to win the game in front
of you, right, And I mean, people are gonna chime
in and they're gonna say, well, this isn't good enough
to beat the best teams in the league.
Speaker 8 (37:00):
And yeah, maybe it.
Speaker 5 (37:01):
Wouldn't be, but this is one of the best defenses,
if not the best, at least best scoring defense in
the league.
Speaker 8 (37:07):
And you saw that, you saw that play out today
we did.
Speaker 5 (37:10):
This is gonna be kind of a tough game, Like
I didn't think the Broncos were gonna put forty on
the Texans. They played everybody tough so far this season.
It's kind of been their offense that's let them down.
CJ's Droug going down earlier the game I think impacted things.
I mean, I know what impacted things, but yeah, I
mean I always felt like this was gonna be one
of those like very close all the way into the
fourth quarter, whoever could make the final play, whichever defense made.
Speaker 8 (37:33):
Enough stops, And that's exactly what it was.
Speaker 5 (37:34):
So I there's nothing about today's game that ultimately swayed
my opinion one way or the other.
Speaker 8 (37:40):
I think they're exactly who they are.
Speaker 5 (37:41):
And the thing is is the Broncos show ways to
find the show ways to win games in the end,
and other teams don't.
Speaker 3 (37:49):
We're winning, that's right, right.
Speaker 8 (37:50):
I appreciate it. Oh no, no, no, no, not that
golly shaw, I tell you, don't call it.
Speaker 5 (37:58):
No, I'm just kidding, my messing with you. I'm sure
Nick Ferguson somewhere really appreciates that. Joseph and Denver's up
next year on Broncos react. What's up, Joseph?
Speaker 14 (38:07):
Hey, how are you doing?
Speaker 8 (38:08):
Swell man? How are you doing well?
Speaker 9 (38:11):
Uh?
Speaker 14 (38:12):
You know, any any win for the Broncos is a
great win.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
You know.
Speaker 14 (38:18):
I was listening to Dave Logan at the end, and obviously,
you know, we are experiencing some kind of magic. I
know when I was on last week, I said it,
you know last week, these last few games, uh, and
weeks have been t bow esque.
Speaker 12 (38:35):
You know.
Speaker 14 (38:35):
So I think right now in Denver it is no
longer t bow time. It is bow time, and we're
gonna have to figure out instead of t bowing what
Boeing is.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
Uh.
Speaker 14 (38:47):
And I'm coming up with it first. It's kind of
the wink and smile and that's what Boeing means.
Speaker 5 (38:54):
Okay, Yeah, I like it, man, I mean, and certainly
there's there's some moxie to him, right this is just
a there's a there's a belief we talked about that.
I mean, you can you can't really quantify those kinds
of things, and I guess it's kind of teble esque
in that respect. But there's a belief within the building
and the team that he's gonna put themselves put the
team in a position to win games, and the.
Speaker 8 (39:16):
Defense would have quit. I think you see that multiple
games so far.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
Yeah, people will say it's fluky that you say you
can't continue to win like this. What's that meme or
gift from breaking bad? He can't keep getting away with this,
he's still he's does and they do. And so you know,
fluky or not scoreboard you can keep pointing to if
(39:41):
you're the Broncos.
Speaker 8 (39:42):
So I don't know.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
It may not be enough for some people, right like
the Nick Rights of the world. It's never gonna be
good enough. They're gonna look at this and they say
it's not sustainable. Okay, six wins in a row in
a league that's very difficult to win feels pretty sustainable
to me.
Speaker 8 (40:00):
Again, we'll see how.
Speaker 5 (40:02):
It ultimately first, but they've shown, this is what I
want to say very quickly. They've shown the ability to
put together big offensive performances when they need to, and
they've also shown the ability to play tight when they
absolutely have to and make the right calls when they
have to.
Speaker 8 (40:20):
So I don't know what else you need to see.
Speaker 5 (40:23):
Right, people will move the goalpost to what we had
to call earlier Sean people will move the goalpost all
they want when it comes to this game and how
the Broncos are playing and whether or not they're a
good team or they're not or I mean whatever, you won. Yeah,
we'll talk about the finer points, but you won. Back
to the phones and Kyle san Antonio's up next year?
Speaker 11 (40:42):
What's up?
Speaker 8 (40:42):
Kyle?
Speaker 2 (40:44):
What's up?
Speaker 12 (40:45):
Brian?
Speaker 9 (40:45):
You already know traditional pre game winning routine. Got the
wool socks, got the pumpkin spice latte, and you know what,
Bronco's got. A w week is secured. I can go
about the rest for my week, not really caring about
a whole lot about what happened in the game, but
just really focusing on the fact that the Denver Broncos
(41:07):
are seven and two. It's a lot better a record
than we've had the past eight years. I'm seeing winning football.
Kid is a gamer. I don't care what anybody says.
I the screams at the top of my lungs are
in the New York Giants game. The Bonnicks, regardless of
like what's going on in the game, just has that switch.
And I'd rather there be a switch than there be
(41:28):
no switch. And I'd rather see wins than not see wins.
You can have a wet blanket, all right, you know
mentality when it comes to this. But at the end
of the day, Broncos are sitting a top the AFC,
the AFC, and it's like, we got the Raiders next week.
I would love to think that that would be a
(41:48):
dub but obviously every game is, you know, it's a
duve until you win. It got Kansas City at home
and you know, kind of like a six to seven, eh,
you know, I don't know how I feel about that
one by week, then we got the Commanders. Things are
really really looking up here, Ryan, So you know what
made it one to know this week? Make it one
to know next week? Long lived DT go Broncos, baby,
(42:09):
perfectly said Kyle.
Speaker 8 (42:11):
And that's been their mentality, right.
Speaker 5 (42:12):
I mean, you ask the guys in the locker room,
it's it's every is a week to week kind of deal.
Speaker 8 (42:16):
By the way, the Buffalo Bills just took the lead
on a touchdown run.
Speaker 5 (42:20):
I think that was Ray Davis, not mistaken, but touchdown
run moments ago.
Speaker 8 (42:24):
Oh it's Tdy Johnson.
Speaker 5 (42:25):
Never mind, Ty Johnson just took a Aron off left
guard and ended up running that in. So it's gonna
be fourteen to ten over the Chiefs. This is a
big game. This is a really big game in the AFC,
big game in the AFC West. We'll keep you posted
on that. We'll do anfl scoreboard coming up in a
little while.
Speaker 8 (42:38):
Alex.
Speaker 5 (42:39):
We'll get back to the text line here in just
a moment. Alex is up next. Three to three, seven one, three,
eighty five, eighty five. What's up, Alex?
Speaker 16 (42:45):
Are you doing? Ryan?
Speaker 5 (42:46):
I'm great, man, Hey, six wins in a row, seven
to two, We're good.
Speaker 12 (42:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 16 (42:51):
And I feel like whatever happens in this Buffalo is
Kansas City game, I feel it's gonna set a hole
for us to see what the division is going to
look like. Kandasity lose this year, they're gonna be almost
to a pickle because I feel like we got the
Raiders game and then we got Kansas City, and if
Kansas City goes into it, I think they'll be like,
would they be like six and four or like brown
there if they lose the Buffalo today, or would they
(43:11):
be five and four?
Speaker 8 (43:13):
They'd be five and four if they lose the Buffalo five.
Speaker 16 (43:15):
Five and four, and then that would be a big
That would be a big game for the Broncos, and
I feel like that would be a tested game for
the Broncos. But there's something interesting I noticed Srian and
all the fourth quarter games, because I feel like, one
thing I love this year is now that where six
and two and fourth quarter games when they're when it's
like a one score margin compared to one to five
last year. I love that. But one thing I like
about bow Knicks this year is I like how I
(43:38):
like I kind of I'm not a big fan of
the slow offense. But the one thing I've noticed in
this game, we made the Texas Texans on their defense
last two minutes when Broncos had the ball, It's like
a less than a minute left as a thirty six
yard line, Knicks drops back ten yards, he runs gets
a twenty five plus yards excellent play called by Champagne.
(43:58):
All of the Textans defense us the right. Nick runs
up the middle to the left and gets it to
the thirty four yard line. Excellent play call. Texans couldn't
bounce back to hold US. I've noticed every defense that
faced US has had that happen to where they can't
bounce back from a mistake that they made, and I
think that's something big. I love that, Ryan, and I
love that the scoreboard like Broncos. They are controlling every game,
(44:20):
and I like that they're the masterminds. Champion's a good
play caller, vance Joseph, He's an amazing defensive coordinator. But
there's one thing, Ryan, I feel like the Broncos need
one more playmaker on offense to where we could get
a little bit ahead in the first tast maybe have
a lead in the first task for or maybe our
third game this year. And I feel like it's gonna
be that, and I have a couple options. I want
(44:41):
to hear your thoughts. Jalen Waddle. I don't think that
might happen to Dolphins. They want a second or first
rounder for him. But I feel like Chris Alava could
be a big shot for us. We could maybe get
him or Shaheed or we could also I feel like
David Njoku or Mark Andrews because our tight end room
hasn't looked the best. And I feel like Evan Ingram
is a good playmaker, but can need someone else good
behind Evan Ingram.
Speaker 5 (45:02):
All Right, thanks, man, appreciate it well, I mean, yeah,
you know, all those would be great, right. I think
I wouldn't trade a first for Jail and Waddle, that's me,
but there are plenty of in Broncos country that would.
I don't believe rus Olaviy is available. Rahet Shaheed could
be available, but it sounds like it's going to complete
at least a third round pick, which makes him more
(45:23):
rental at third round pick, which is too much for me.
David and joku Per Reports is not available.
Speaker 8 (45:28):
I doubt.
Speaker 5 (45:29):
I mean it's it's not impossible, but I doubt Mark
Andrews is available. Now that the Ravens have their sights
on the AFC North, although the Steelers one today, so
maybe they feel a little different.
Speaker 8 (45:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (45:41):
I'm not trying to view a wet blanket on your
trade options.
Speaker 8 (45:45):
It's just to say that.
Speaker 5 (45:48):
It feels like what I'd rather see is more opportunities
for say Pat Bryant, who made two outstanding catches today,
More opportunities for RJ. Harvey, who has been phenomenal. Right,
you're still I think, underutilizing Marvin Mims, who should be
back after this game. You're underutilizing I think Troy Franklin
to a certain extent, al though he got Pepper with
(46:09):
a lot of targets that I'm just saying that in
the end, I think the answer still remains in the building.
And Evan Ingram, I don't think you record a single
catch today. He was targeted three times. Yeah, I did
not recover a catch, got targeted three times today.
Speaker 8 (46:24):
He needs to be involved Moore.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
But I hear you, there's a lot of people out
there that would like the le Broncos to be buyers.
I think if they're gonna be buyers, maybe there's a
tight end available. Bennett reported that Luke Musgrave could have
been an option for the Packers, but it looks like
Tyler Kraft or sorry Tucker Craft might have torn his
acl So if you're if you're the Packers, you're probably
not trading one of your tight ends. A couple of
(46:46):
texts year five, six, six nine zero, Ryan was thinking
that a couple of years ago, Casey won the Super
Bowl in a season where they came back and won
several one score games.
Speaker 8 (46:54):
Yeah, I mean that's what happens.
Speaker 5 (46:55):
Good team find a way, And it felt like and
Dave kept saying it throughout the broadcast. This game is winnable.
Need to put together a few plays, got out, find
a way to win this game. You don't want to
walk away losing when your defense only gives up fifteen points,
and that's what they did. Bonix really stresses me out. Well,
that makes all of us but also very exciting. I
(47:18):
think I'd rather have this brand of football and be
a little stressed watching the team find ways to win,
then be stressed and then they just tear my heart
out over again. What's your thoughts on Bonick's deep passes?
Seems like there's no connection or chemistry. Today was not
good with the deep pass game, although there were a
couple of drops. Corland Sudden had a couple. Texas defense
(47:42):
is good. They really are. Let's see here a couple
more texts before we have to break. Hi, Ryan, love
the show. Why don't the Broncos go to hurry up
and no huddle offense sooner? It just seems like that's
when bo plays his best. Robin Brush Well, I get
the sense from Sean that part of it is that
they don't want to go and tax the defense too quickly.
Speaker 8 (48:05):
Right, So if.
Speaker 5 (48:06):
You're going hurry up, then you think that you're going
to play to the detriment of what your defense does,
and so you go corry up three as rein out
or even hurry up four or five and out right.
I mean it sounds great, and I in theory like
the idea too, and I've kind of crushed Payton for
it a little bit. But I think that they selectively
(48:27):
use it so they'll get a first down and you'll
notice they're quick to the line and they're going it's
usually after that initial first down in the drive that're
running a little more tempo. But up until then, it's
tough to go tempo if you're not getting get a
first down and they have too many three and outs.
This team is still struggling with that. Even against good
