text line. All right again, we're on to l eight o'clock,
So if you want to call in play of opportunity,
Ben Allbright's going to join me around five o'clock. I'm
sure some wet blanket takes will pursue. We'll see, right,
I mean, if they would have won, he would had
wet blanket takes. If they lose, they have wet blanket takes.
I think it's it's basically he's equal share wet blanket.

(01:15):
That's what Ben Albright brings you. And by the way,
week nights of six o'clock in Broncos Country tonight, all right,
here we go, Steven, You're up next year on Broncos
react with Ryan Edwards?

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Was up?

Speaker 4 (01:26):
Stephen's that Brian, I'm right, and heartbreaking loss today, you know, especially.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
Being a division opponent. But what I was super impressed
with was how Veyle stepped up today. Estimate stepped up today.
Bo Nicks, I thought played really well. I don't think
we've had as many growing pains with him as we anticipated.
So I just want to get your thoughts on those
guys stepping up and who else needs to step up

(01:54):
to make a playoff run here down the back stretch.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
All right, good question, Thank you for your call.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Yeah, I mean it was nice to see yah Vyle
with four catches for thirty nine yards, had a couple
of really nice ones, including the touchdown. But yeah, I
thought I thought Vailey was good today. It was good
to see Marvin Mims out of the doghouse and contributing.
They had him, I mean they gave him some handoffs,
they had they had he had three carries today, they
had four catches for thirteen yards. I'd like to see

(02:21):
a little bit more of that. So if you're talking
about guys that you'd like to see continue to add
to this, yes, that would be part of it for me.
I'd like to see the Broncos do something there on
the offensive side of the ball with him. Troy Franklin,
I think would be another guy. This fascinating to see
as you're talking about guys that stepped up. Today was

(02:41):
an audric Estimate day for the running backs. Fourteen carries
for fifty three yards, and I mean Gavonte Williams had
one carry and he had two catches on two targets.
Jelu McGlaughlin only two carries in the game. So are
we seeing a shift in this being maybe more of

(03:02):
an oddric estimate led backfield.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
I don't.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
I don't know that for sure, but we did get
a hint earlier in the week that Sean Payton was
considering going to adric estimate a little bit more so,
just something to keep an eye on. But today they
felt like that was the guy that they wanted to
uh to give the ball to, and boy, he looked good.
I mean he had some some really nice runs late.
I mean, you're on that last drive. He's had fumbling issues,

(03:27):
but the coaching staff trusted him that he was going
to make the right decisions. They gave it to him
on short yardage situations and he converted all of them
to my knowledge, So I mean, I'm.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Good with that.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Oddrick Estime, in my opinion, is going to be the
future of the backfield. And if you can get to
a scenario where Adric Estima and Troy Franklin, uh, let's
see here, Devon Bailey. I mean, if you're you're getting
to the young players earlier, that's just more reps for
them now as you build into what hopefully will be

(04:02):
a contender next year. I mean, this year in a
lot of ways, continues to be about development of the team,
development of the offense, especially with a sort of an
eye on next year. And that doesn't mean you're not
trying to win games. You are trying to win games.
You're always trying to win games. That's just what the
league is, and it would be great. I think for
the development of this team to make the playoffs this year,

(04:24):
so you're going to continue to put that effort out there. Meanwhile,
there always has to be a mindset with all this
that that the Broncos.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Are in development mode.

Speaker 3 (04:36):
So I think, again, multiple things being true, you're trying
to win games, but you're also just kind of look
at every single game with a big picture view of
how did we do in our development today, And honestly,
you got to feel pretty good about that. I mean, again,
Bonix Today's seventy three percent, almost seventy four percent completion rate,
two hundred fifteen yards averaging seven point two. He was
definitely putting the ball downfield on the money. Corland Sun

(04:59):
with multiple catches downfield obviously thirty two yard catch out
on Troutman Head, a thirty four catch and run, Will
George Humphrey, a twenty yarder in there's bon Vailey a
thirteen yard or so. I mean, there's the Broncos were
attacking the Kansasity Chiefs defense, who is one of the
best in the league, and they were moving the ball
with the exception of some of the play calls in

(05:19):
the second half, and that's something maybe we'll get into
with Ben on the other side at five o'clock. Back
to the phones and Sean is up next year on
Broncos react.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
What's up? Sean?

Speaker 6 (05:31):
Hey? Hey, hard work, clean, living yourself.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Ryan, I'm doing all right man. Good to hear from you.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
Hey, I got our coaches make millions of dollars a year, right,
that's what I'm talking. Why why do you not kick
the field goal on third down with twenty seconds to
go in case you have a bad snap or you
have that block and you recover it. What is the

(05:57):
purpose of running Esmay into the met which everybody knows
we're going to do for nothing, and wasting it down.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Well, I mean you're trying to work the clock. I
mean you've watched enough Kansas City games with Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 6 (06:09):
Anyway, we're at twenty seconds with on third down.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yeah, well again, you're at that point, you're you're playing
maybe a little bit conservative. I mean again, if they
make the field goal, it's probably not much of a conversation.
But miss the field goal, and then it becomes a
more of a conversation.

Speaker 6 (06:26):
We got it blocked and we did not recover it.
But if we would have recovered it. We have a fourth.

Speaker 7 (06:31):
Down, still kick.

Speaker 6 (06:34):
You know what I'm trying to say.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
I understand where you're going with that, but once again,
at that point, you're playing for the You're playing for
that because the last thing you want to do is
give Patrick Mahomes literally anytime he's even shown and you've
you've seen it, well, I mean.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
I'm not telling you anything. You don't know. You've seen
him score.

Speaker 6 (06:48):
In thirteen seconds, but twenty seconds and you kick, try
to kick the field goal, they block it. That takes
another four seconds off. Okay, now we still have fourth
down to kick the field goal, and now there is
sixteen seconds. Patrick Mahomes is good, but he's not sixteen
seconds good.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
Okay, Well, like I said, I I think I kind
of know where you're going with that.

Speaker 3 (07:10):
I don't think that's that's generally how it's played, but
I sort of see where you're going with that. You
give yourself more room if you have a little bit
more time.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
And again it's tough. I mean again, we second guess
these things.

Speaker 3 (07:24):
At the same time, if they close that thing out,
they kicked the field goal, we would be lauding the
coaching staff. Holy cal they went on this nearly six
minute drive. They snuffed out any chance for the Kansas
City Chiefs to come back into it.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
That would also be a fair conversation to have, and.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
That's that's probably where I'd be opening the show with, like,
holy cow, what an oppressive moment of poise for this
young offense to drive down the field, take all the
time off the clock, and give Kansas City nothing.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
That's where I would have gone. So I can't.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
I'm just telling you I want to be fair about it,
and that's that's where I would have come.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Down on it.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
Well.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
But again, when you lose, those conversations come up. Ryan
and Andy is up next year on Broncos React.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
What's up? Ryan?

Speaker 8 (08:10):
Hey, Ryan, thanks for taking my call. Man, just want
to respond to two things quickly. You know, there is
no illegal formation. You can have six on the line, So,
like Dave Logan said, we just got to protect in
that situation. And you know, that's just what NFL teams
need to be doing when you're trying to kick a
game winning field goal on the aggressive this piece, I'm

(08:31):
kind of with you. I tend to be aggressive and want,
you know, our coaches to be aggressive. I think they've
played that last drive perfectly though. You don't want to
give Patrick Mahomes any any time on the clock, which
is exactly what you said.

Speaker 6 (08:44):
And so I.

Speaker 8 (08:45):
Think, you know, going for the field goal with call actually,
you know, hindsight being twenty twenty, I almost kind of
wish Mahomes would have connected with Helsey there because then
it would have required us to score a touchdown. I
think we would have done that. But look, vote Nick
continue to suppress. I bet we don't see him taking
it of those you know, deep sacks going forward. The
kid is learning week by week. Estimate was great today,

(09:06):
ballet was great today. A lot of things to light there.
I want to get your thoughts, you know, I thought,
you know, this is not a hate on Courland by
any means, because he came up big, but you know.

Speaker 4 (09:15):
That drop right at the hat there really large.

Speaker 8 (09:19):
So I wanted to get your thoughts on if you
feel like in the off season and going in the
next year, a number one priority used to be, you know,
to get a number one wide receiver. And last thing
I'll leave you with here, I mean you mentioned it,
web blanket. He's kind of on X right now. Responding
to troll with about Sean Payton's play calling, which is
probably not even in the top three of issues with

(09:39):
the team right now, but uh, you know, I think
it's what Snickers says. People aren't themselves and they're hungry.
So once we go ahead and get him some rice
Christies this week and I'll tip in for that if
you can go ahead and do that, A man, love
your stuff.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Thanks again, Yeah, I appreciate it, man, thank you. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
Well, as far as the wide receiver goes, absolutely that's
something I've I've already you know, tried to be talk
about a little bit for me for KA Sports. I mean,
regardless of where you end up picking wide receiver, you're
gonna you're gonna add one. You might even talk about
adding a couple of wide receivers in this draft. It's
not say you're giving up on any of the young guys.
It's just to say you want to give yourself some options,
and it would be great to be able to come

(10:17):
away from the first round and and and take one
of wide receiver, especially if you don't need anything else,
and you you hopefully put yourself in a position where
you don't have to draft for need most of the time.
But we'll see where the Broncos are into picking and
see what they can do in free agency. Uh that
all being said, Yeah, Ben, I saw a little bit
of Ben reacting on on Twitter, and I knew I

(10:39):
know that he Uh well, I mean, listen, he's got
a history of not really being the biggest John Payton guy,
so shouldn't really surprise anybody that he's on there immediately
after the.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
Loss looking for ways to question what they're doing.

Speaker 3 (10:54):
But again, SPORTSCOC Radio, we get a chance to debate
these things, so I'll give him a chance to talk
about that. Coming up here lefter five o'clock, David, You're
up next year on Broncos Reacting. We'll get back to
the text line here at five six six nine zero
as well.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
What's up David.

Speaker 9 (11:08):
Hey, I know a lot of you guys are gonna
hate this call. I mean, like, great game overall for
Broncos Country, although it was a disappointing finish. You know,
there's been shows on both offense and defense. But I
am calling because I want to invest more in the

(11:29):
team as well as spread some money wisely, right, So
with this in mind, I do want a jersey from
both the defense and offense I'll gather good wearing tear. Okay,
So I have three questions, right, So not regarding nixt

(11:52):
certain Suddon, you know, like some of the other obvious choices,
what offense players jerseys would you invest in long term?
The second question is the same for defensive side, like
you know, like which ones would you guys invest for that?
And then finally, Broncos Country overall, what do you think

(12:18):
of a Blucifer six six six jersey to be represented
as the Denver Stable?

Speaker 10 (12:27):
Thank you very much?

Speaker 3 (12:28):
All right, one of the weirdest calls I've ever received
in my entire life, But thank you, David.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
I think, uh yeah, I mean.

Speaker 3 (12:36):
Jerseys to represent again leaving out some of the more
obvious names. I mean it's it's sort of tough, right,
I mean you listed the ones being passer Tan bo Nicks,
I mean would be at the top of Lissa. I
think there's still a scenario bo Nix, Corland Sutton is
here next year.

Speaker 1 (12:55):
Maybe a Quinn Miners jersey, I mean they upped him.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
Jonathan Cooper just got an extension, So you're looking for
a little bit under the radar jerseys. Those would be
a couple that I think you could be an odric
estimate Jersey, a guy that is going to be here
for at least the next three years. I mean that
that could be a little bit of a conversation for you.
I don't know about the Blues Sifer thing, and I

(13:18):
don't really know where to go with that.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
Five six six nine zero.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
A couple of texts here, Ryan, I can't see him
to get through on the phone yet, we've had full lines. Sorry,
it's been very busy, but I wanted to let you know.
I'm sitting here in my favorite flannel drinking a quad
pumpkin spice latte. Good good on you, nice touch, nice touch, Quad.
Going with the quad. I want with the triple this morning,
the triple was delightful, but even that couldn't prepare me

(13:44):
for the ending of this game. This one's seventeen is
in Davon Vailey clearly the best receiver on this team.
Sean won't win if he doesn't recognize who his best
players are. Sewn needs to realize he's not the smartest
coach in the NFL. Well, I mean, Courtland Sun is
the best receiver on this team. But I mean, I
do think there's a scenario where the von Veley can

(14:06):
be a bigger factor in what they're they're trying to do. Sure,
but I don't know if he's the best game. Our
family loves SAMs. We love SAMs, Sam's Number three Dinner
and Bar. We are there weekly in Glendale, So please
come down and say hi. Do us very very appreciate that, Ryan,
you and Benter phenomenal talk sports host, sports talk host.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Thank you very kind. Ryan loved the direction of the Broncos.

Speaker 3 (14:30):
I'm disappointed by the loss, but Denver's clearly on the
up tick. I was happy to see Estimate get some
decent reps today and props to VJ and his defense. Also,
I love the coaching staff getting mems touches in creative
ways and was encouraged DK and Broomfield. Yeah, I get
does this thing at a loss is going to be
prevalent and that isn't going to change. But there were

(14:52):
quite a few things, quite a few things coming off
this game that once you get over the portion that,
like I said, is the loss, you're going to come
back and say. I really liked the way from an
emotional standpoint, from a presence standpoint, they operated out there
on the field. It just didn't ever seem like the
moment was too big. And guys, we've watched a lot

(15:12):
of Broncos games over the last several years. There were
moments when the Broncos were on the same field as
the Kansas City Chiefs, but it didn't really matter. It
didn't seem like whatever they were going to do, you
were just hoping to somehow catch some fluky break.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
They didn't need fluky breaks to win this game.

Speaker 3 (15:27):
They executed in a way and put themselves in position
and really all three phases to win this game like that,
that's going to be the takeaway. That's got to be
the takeaway eventually. And can they find a way to close?
You know, you got a relatively young team that sometimes
those are tough lessons to learn. You found a way
to close against the Jets in a game that some

(15:49):
people said you had no business winning in that game.
You didn't find a way to close this game, and
in a game where you played in many ways better
than the two time Super Bowl champions. Didn't work out
in the box score as far as the final score goes,
But there were so many ways to look at this game.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
For the Broncos to feel like they're on the right
track again. Some people will say scoreboard.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Some people will say it's okay, We're we're looking a
big picture, and I think both can be true Today

and then he waggles his finger as if to say, Nope,
not on me. That ball intended for Justin Rose, Justin Ross,
excuse me. Incomplete and Denver's defense doing a terrific job
here today against this Kansas City offense.

here on the NFL scoreboard, and we'll do a full
scoreboard coming up here in the four o'clock hour. Chargers
up thirteen to seven. The Titans now just past midfield
and actually now they're at the Chargers twenty nine yard

(18:37):
line ten thirty six million and the third quarter. The
Eagles Jalen Hurts has thrown an interception and fumbled the ball,
but they still lead right now seven to six with
about a minute remaining in the first half. About one
oh four remaining in the second quarter, the Cardinals are
up twenty one to six over the Jets. Kyler Murray
with a passing touchdown, and uh yeah, they, like.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
I said, they've to handle this one.

Speaker 3 (19:00):
The Jets are struggling on the road, which is not
much of a surprise, but good news if the Jets lose,
because there's just one more team that is not in
the mix. And again we're kind of rooting for the
Titans to find a way to come back and win
this game against the Chargers, because that would be a
little bit of a knocked out of the Chargers. They'd
moved to five and four. Broncos gonna have to find
a way to beat them on the road. Anyways, when

(19:22):
we get to that game later in the season. But
right now, we go back to the phones three h
three seven one three eighty five eighty five, and it
looks like Broncos sixty is up next year on Broncos react.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
What's up Broncos sixty?

Speaker 11 (19:36):
Are you doing that right?

Speaker 1 (19:37):
I'm doing right, sir? How are you hey?

Speaker 11 (19:39):
You know, last week I was pretty negative about the Broncos,
but this week I'm kind of positive. Okay, I think
we got a future quarterback with bone Knicks.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
I kind of agree with you. I mean, honestly, not
kind of. I do agree with you.

Speaker 3 (19:54):
I think that you know, there were moments even in
the Ravens game where I thought he showed some nice poise.
They couldn't quite close out the drives like you'd like
to see, but it wasn't like all bad. It wasn't
one of those that came away from the game like, ah, man,
he doesn't even belong out there. This is this is rough.
I think we've seen strides every single week, do you agree?

Speaker 11 (20:10):
Yes? And reading, uh, I think we could have won today.
Just that's you bad luck whatever they call it. But
but he we was ped a pretty good game today.
So I'm kind of proud of him.

Speaker 3 (20:23):
I appreciate that. Yeah, and that's that's a good take.
Thank you, Broncos sixty. I appreciate you calling in And
I come away with this game thinking similar thoughts.

Speaker 1 (20:30):
I feel like he quitted himself.

Speaker 3 (20:33):
Well, the the Broncos offense had, they had some lulls
in the second half. That's got to be cleaned up
a little bit. But there there were moments when they're
plays to be had. I thought his decision making, you know,
when plays were not there, Like they had a fumbled
snap earlier in the game and he picked the ball
up and he threw it at the feet of Marvin Mims,
and I thought it was great, right. I mean, instead
of making a bad situation worse, he tended to make

(20:57):
the right call in the moment. And again, that's oftentimes
all we're looking for. We're looking for a rookie quarterback
that's making good decisions. Now, we took a couple of
really bad sacks, But Steve Spagnolo, who I have an
immense amount of respect for. Like whatever we all think
about the Chiefs, and I'm obviously not a big fan,

(21:17):
but Steve Spagnolo is one of the best coaches in
the league by far, but by I mean he's unbelievable
as far as his defensive schemes go and the way
he coaches his team. I thought he really threw a
lot of things at Bonix today and overall responded, well,
the couple of sacks are tough, and especially the one

(21:39):
that I mean he's had a sixteen yard loss on
one and then I think a seventeen yard loss, so
those those are massive, a lot of yards given up
by your quarterback. But overall, I thought Bonis battled really
well today and I look forward over the course of
the week to break that down. As we walk up
to the Atlanta Falcons game, back to the phones, we
go and Jordan in Arkansas. It's up next year on
the program, what's.

Speaker 12 (21:59):
A how's it going right?

Speaker 1 (22:02):
Good man? Thank you?

Speaker 12 (22:03):
Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm sick man. I was so disappointed
out of all the ways that game was going to end.
I didn't think a block field goal to take the
lead is going to be it, you know. And then
the hit kit come and I went to Andy's and
they gave me a cup with Travis Kelcey on it. Yeah. Yeah,
but I'll tell you what, Uh, this loss compared to

(22:27):
the loss last year against the Chiefs with bon Nicks,
with Ale, with estimate, I feel good, you know, I
feel confident. We shouldn't have been by projection. I think
that competitive against this team who's so much further ahead.
So it's a testament that what we're building. I think
it's something sturdy. I don't think it's that typical kind

(22:49):
of plug and play the Broncos have been doing the
past eight years, you know. So it's a tough loss.
I mean, I'm so disappointed, but also encouraged and I'm
excited for next year when we can put expectations on
this team. That's a good call, But yeah, I appreciate your.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Absolutely, Jordan, thank you for the call.

Speaker 3 (23:09):
And then I certainly feel you that that you're you're
sort of gutted for this loss in this moment, but yeah,
you're right, you're again, there's multiple ways to view these things.

Speaker 1 (23:19):
Certainly, wanting to win in the moment.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
An opportunity for the team to to get a win
an arhad, something they haven't been able to do in
almost a decade, would be fantastic and it certainly would
solidify some things that we do believe about this team.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
But but again, you're one play away.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Bo Nicks did his part, the offense did their part
on that final drive to put them in position, and
they didn't come through in special teams. But yeah, I mean,
the mindset will change, right, I mean, you go into
the next year and you you absolutely have to have
expectations of not only the playoffs, but but maybe even
beyond that. I mean, and again, I still have expectations

(23:56):
for this year. Per personally, I still think this is
a team that can win this year and they can
go to the playoffs this year.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
So that's my expectation.

Speaker 3 (24:04):
Maybe I don't have the expectation of winning a championship,
but I also look at this as you get into
the playoffs and you find out, you just you sort
of find out what's gonna happen. But it's fair and
I think I think for you, Jordan, with a lot
of Broncos fans of the ones I'm getting on the
text line, feel the same way they're saying, big picture,
love what we're building here. Let's just see if we
can string together some things down the stretch here to

(24:26):
really ramp into not only a possible playoff ber, but
more than anything, into next year when you have those
legitimate expectations of what this team should and could be.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
Brian Castle rocks up next year. What's up?

Speaker 2 (24:38):
Brian?

Speaker 1 (24:41):
Hey, Brian going once puts back on hole. We'll see
if we can get to the on the other side.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Three out of three, set one, three, eighty five, eighty five, five, six,
six nine zero. Kawa Comma Spirit Health text line. The
Titans settle for three. They're trailing by three points against
the Chargers.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
Eagles. Just throw a touchdown.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
Jalen hurts to Dallas Goddard, who is now back after
missing a couple of games. And we're at halftime with
the Cardinals leading twenty four to six over the Jets. Okay,
let's drag it Brian in real quick before we hit
the break.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Brian, you there, Yeah, I got you man, I got
you hey.

Speaker 10 (25:16):
I called about the latte in the planet. I didn't
have a quad very good taste. Yeah, A couple of comments,
a couple quick questions. I was really helping to at
the sports too. You know, tomorrow I have a just
a band. I mean to see you one if if
the Broncos had pulled this off, wow, it would have been, Ah,

(25:37):
it'll be a great show anyway. But you know, I
just I feel like, you know, this one hit me
almost like the Ravens loss. You know, in the in
the FC Championship it was eight losses straight. You know,
you know, I always felt like, you know, it ain't
over until it's over. The Chiefs just seem to find
a way. You know, Nicks continues to progress, and you know,

(25:58):
I think we have to score some points in the
second half. But you know, it was an impressive game
and performance in the trenches. You know what happened in
your opinion with the field goal? Was there a formation
or the line after such excellent play folded or I
think they had a time out so you know, if

(26:19):
Peyton thought something, I'm sure he would have called it.
Did they just you know fold or was just what
do you think happened there? You know, at the end,
I want.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
To say they actually used their final timeout to get
down to one second, so they actually used their last
time out there, so there wasn't a timeout available in
that moment. And yeah, I mean, you know, Alex Forsyth,
who hadn't played during the course of the game, he
was in left side as you're going Max protect, and
he got he got bullied right off the ball. I mean,

(26:50):
I don't know they had six guys in the line.
Some people keep saying that they might have had seven.
I'm not really sure about that. I had to go
back and look at.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
It one more time again.

Speaker 3 (26:58):
Maybe been all Broby will have some he's a chance
to look at it a little bit more when he
joins me up for five o'clock.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Probably get into that.

Speaker 3 (27:04):
But yeah, I mean the way I look at it
is they just they kind of got bullied right there
on the left side of the offensive line, and the
Chiefs were able to sort of burst through and get
that block, which is unfortunate obviously for the outcome of
the game. But in my opinion, again, you did everything
right there. You played it exactly right. We can go

(27:25):
through and we will, I guess second guess some of
these things after the fact.

Speaker 1 (27:31):
But man, I I was thrilled the way they executed that.

Speaker 3 (27:36):
I was fired up to be able to talk about
that for the rest of the afternoon until it was blocked.
I was like, man, a six minute drive on the
road was your rookie quarterback?

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Are you kidding me?

Speaker 3 (27:47):
That's exactly It's exactly what you want to be able
to do. You did everything right except for execute that
point offensively.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
The game planed the call. I mean, it was great,
it was perfect.

Speaker 3 (28:00):
I mean the fact is the Chiefs went up on
him sixteen to fourteen, and we've watched up Broncos football
to see many opportunities where the Broncos just sort of
that that's it.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
You know, we gave it our best.

Speaker 3 (28:13):
It wasn't good enough, and we're gonna go three and
out here and hope to be able to use our
timeouts to get to stay in this one.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
I mean that that was what I was.

Speaker 3 (28:20):
I was prepared, like ah, hi man, And you know,
the second half didn't go their way. The Chiefs are
a really good team, but you know what they they
went out there, Adric estimate Randley went really well, a
couple of key passes to Coral and Sutton.

Speaker 1 (28:33):
It was good.

Speaker 3 (28:34):
It was exactly what you wanted to do, and you
just couldn't couldn't quite close it out. Today's game brought

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Four man pressure the Homes, bouncers around.

Speaker 1 (29:00):
He's grabbed, he pulls away and he's loose.

Speaker 2 (29:03):
Mahomes throws across the field and this is gonna be
a catching, big, big play. The catch made by samaj
p Ryan. I have no idea how Mahomes got out.

Speaker 7 (29:13):
Of that potential sack.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
That was Benito again. Jakwon McMillan finally makes the tackle
on Pee Ryan at gain of thirty five. The brilliance
of Patrick Mahomes. That's the only way to describe that play.

Speaker 3 (29:24):
Oh God, that was the third and thirteen. That's just backbreaker.
But that's what he does. That's Patrick Mahomes. He does
that to a lot of teams. He did that to
the Broncos today. And they still had a big opportunity
to win the game.

Speaker 1 (29:40):
Welcome back to Broncos React.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
I'm Ryan Emmers, live from the Smashburger Sports Desk Smashburger
eat like no one's watching Smashburger dot com. Let's pause
ten seconds for station identification. You're listening to the KWA

Speaker 2 (29:54):

with Common Spirit health text line. We're gonna have been
all bright joining us here in about an hour. We're
on until eight o'clock. We'll get to an NFL scoreboard here.
The Chargers just got a touchdown justin Herbert to Quentin Johnston,
and so now the Chargers are ahead twenty to ten

(30:25):
over the Titans, and we got three twenty four remaining
in the third quarter. Eagles up fourteen to six over
the Cowboys, the Cardinals up twenty four to six at
halftime over the Jets. We go back to the phones,
and I'll read a couple of text here in a second.
Back to the phones, though, and Michael, you're up next
year on Broncos React.

Speaker 1 (30:43):
What's up? Michael?

Speaker 13 (30:44):
Hey, appreciate you taking my call, Sir. I'm sixty three
years old. I blied blue and orange my whole life,
and I'm I'm just distraught, right. That's what I would
want to do is go back a few calls to Dale.
I don't think he explained it very well. But my

(31:06):
problem with this game we should have run is the last.

Speaker 7 (31:14):
Three plays before the kick?

Speaker 13 (31:17):
What whatever I mean, I'm I'm not a football genius,
but whatever happened to spreading out the defense so you
could actually run make a hole? And on the on
the second down, third down was a snap and a
go to the right and roll down on the ground
and then we kicked. So why why are we not

(31:41):
using the talent we have in bone Niggs, which I
believe is is our quarterback too. You know, design plays
for him, even a run, you know, a run a
second down and then and then a design play for
him that's two or three yards maybe maybe not. He
still gets down, but he doesn't lose yards, and then

(32:02):
we kicked. I mean, you're still using up the clock.
So in my opinion, and I don't want to bang
on Sean Payton, but damn we should have won that game.

Speaker 3 (32:13):
Yeah, they should have won that game. And again, thank
you for the call. If you convert the field goal. Again,
you know, those are things that don't end up being
in the discussion point, but you don't and it comes
back to bite you. Right, and again they played a
little more conservative down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (32:32):
That's what's gonna happen.

Speaker 3 (32:33):
You're gonna second guess that if if it doesn't work,
and field goals are not guaranteed, right, they're not free throws.
They're not I mean even free throws aren't guaranteed, but
I mean they're they're not gimmes. You certainly knew the
Chiefs were going to be bringing everything they could after it,
and the Broncos put themselves in that position.

Speaker 1 (32:51):
They played conservative down the stretch.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
If they get aggressive, though, on the other side of that,
then what we're talking about after the fact is, well,
the Broncos were too aggressive and it bit them that way.
Like if there's a turnover, right, I mean, you have
Audric Estime and there who's a rookie of got Bo Nixon? There,
who's a rookie I've got Davon Vele making plays as
a rookie. I don't know if Troy Franklin was on
the field late, but that's what would be the discussion point.

(33:17):
If you end up being super aggressive it ends up
costing you yardage and or a turnover, then that ends
up being some of the discussion point, Like man, you
were right and field goal range. Bonix had already taken
a couple of sacks, a seventeen yard sack and a
sixteen yard sack, and boy, he takes a seventeen yard
sack at some point where they're at within that thirty

(33:40):
yard range, thirty five yard range. God, I mean, we're
having a different conversation about the play calling, about Sean,
about bow and but again, like I said, it's so
tough because it becomes like I'm defending it when I'm
not trying to.

Speaker 1 (33:57):
I'm just trying to say I understand it. Does that
make sense?

Speaker 3 (34:01):
I understand what the mindset was to work the clock,
and even Sean. It's remarkable because this week Sean was
asked about that because there was a drive against the
Ravens right before halftime where he was asked, hey, do
you you know what did you have a thought process
of we're milking the clock a little bit before the
ring because the Ravens, remember that they scored quickly, like

(34:22):
under a minute. They had a fifty plus yard touchdown
as a Flowers, and the question came up like, hey,
did you think about running some clock there? And he said,
I don't know how to run clock for touchdown attempts.
I know how to run the clock for field goal attempts.
It's just kind of funny that this ended up being
in the exact same situation. They were running clock in
that point in order to kick a field goal and

(34:44):
go ahead by one. Didn't work out. Casey, you're up
next to around Broncos reacting. We read a couple of
texts here in a second, what's up, Casey, Casey there? Hello,
Casey right? Put you back on hold? A couple of texts.
So though should have went for the juggler, they tried
and tried for the touchdown. We had momentum and moving

(35:06):
the ball, playing for the field goal losses the game. Yeah,
that's what That's what you have to live with. I
am shocked to the number of Broncos fans that does
not understand that we played the end of the game
perfectly minus that kick. How can they second guess all
that stuff is beyond me? Lacks real understanding of football
and your opponent. I mean, it's a matter of perspective.

Speaker 1 (35:27):
I'm with you.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
I thought the Broncos played that perfect. I quite literally
thought they played that perfect. And that was gonna be
my mindset coming into this post game was Holy cow,
you milked every second of clock. You gave nothing to
Patrick Mahomes, that offense who has shown they can score
in a matter of thirteen seconds. They've done that before.

(35:49):
You couldn't leave any time to this guy at all,
and they did that. Did the left tackle simply fall
backwards on the field goal attempt? Well, again, from my view,
it was it was Alex Forsyth who was lined up
on the left side.

Speaker 1 (36:03):
But that's what it is.

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Can you explain what Mahomes was heard yelling to the
refs about in the second quarter. It sounded like he
asked the refs to tell him when a defender was
getting close to him. I think what he was asking
about it was an illegal formation on Juwan Taylor, and
he was asking the refs to let him know or
let them know when Juwan Taylor was lined up illegally.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
And sometimes they'll do.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
That, They'll they'll give sort of a warning, Hey, this
guy's and Jawan Taylor is famous for this, right, He's
always seemingly false start or lined up back further illegally.
But as you will tell if you'd say anything to
Kansa City Chiefs fans, they'll tell you that's just who
he is, that's how he plays the game, and you know,

(36:50):
you just sort of get used to it. But but
oftentimes that is the discussion point with Juwan Taylor. And
so they did call it in this circumstance, and Patrick
Mahone Holmes kind of told the ref, Hey, can you
just give me a heads up on that. We we
caught our field mics were phenomenal. They caught that the
whole interaction with the rest. He said, Hey, can you
give me the heads up when that ends up happening? So, Zach,

(37:13):
you're up next year on Broncos React.

Speaker 7 (37:15):
What was up?

Speaker 1 (37:15):
Zach Heny?

Speaker 14 (37:16):
Thanks for taking my call.

Speaker 12 (37:17):
I appreciate it, sir.

Speaker 14 (37:20):
So yeah, I kind of, you know, I was actually
going to kind of say, you know, like you can't
give mister clutch, you know, mister Mahomes.

Speaker 12 (37:27):
You can't give them any.

Speaker 14 (37:28):
Time in the fort. You can't put the ball in
his hands at the end of the game. Sometimes that
the game is decided by who has the ball last.
And you know, I agree with our decision to take
a field goal. Be conservative. Uh you know, you can't
you can't give it back to Mahomes. You can't try
and score.

Speaker 13 (37:45):
I wasn't.

Speaker 14 (37:46):
I was really you know, it was a kind of
a bright spot seeing Sma and Humphrey not turn the
ball over today, something where they struggled, especially Humphrey, not
to see those guys hold onto the ball and too
you know Signola, you know, and Andy reid Man. They're
amazing coaches. You know, it's kind of interesting to kind

(38:07):
of watch the game. It looked like kind of with
the defense, it was kind of like they were kind
of containing bow knicks a little bit like Lamar and
making sure he couldn't like they held him into that
pocket pretty well.

Speaker 13 (38:20):
Uh.

Speaker 14 (38:21):
And then two, it's kind of interesting to see when
bow could actually run. It was interesting that he I mean,
there was one play where he actually threw it, but
there was a couple of times where he could have
ran and and didn't. So that was kind of, you know,
very interesting. And going into that game, we were expected
to kind of lose, and I think, you know, we
did what we need to and mister man, mister man

(38:42):
bow knicks, who's mister clutch too? I think, you know,
having you know, it's nice to see that, you know,
Farantaine looked at him say, hey, two minute drill, like
let's get this done. And our offense kind of did
what they need to and we just fell short when
it came to special teams. But and then what if
we were to make a run, what do you think

(39:05):
we need to improve on? Like tight ends, back wide receiver,
what do you think we need to what?

Speaker 7 (39:10):
It gets?

Speaker 5 (39:12):
All? Right?

Speaker 3 (39:12):
I lost that, Yeah, I lost you there at the zact,
but I got I got the gist of it, and
thanks for the call. Yeah, I'd say, I mean certainly
tight ends, right, I mean I'd like to see the
Broncos be better in using their tight ends. He had
a couple of targets today, a couple of catches for
Lucas Croll. Adam Trauvin had the one catch for thirty
four yards combined three catches for fifty five. But we've

(39:34):
seen so many games where the Broncos tight ends are
just a non factor whatsoever. Uh. And it was funny
how against Carolina they were the storyline on offense and
then they were just m I a completely against the Ravens.
I'd like to see Marvin Mims get get a little
bit bigger role. I think his speed matters on the field.

(39:56):
But yeah, I mean that that's that's where I'd start.
It was good to see Adric Estimate out there getting
a little bit more work. I'm be interested to hear
from Sean Payton when he speaks with the media tomorrow
and later this week about how they thought he did
and if they're going to keep the rotations looking like
that again. This is a little bit of departure, right
javont Yvonty Williams got one carry for one yard and

(40:19):
he got two catches on two targets for six He
was completely a non factor in this game.

Speaker 1 (40:27):
Is that the trend? Is that just a matchup thing?
What is that?

Speaker 3 (40:31):
Is that an indictment on Javante in some of his
short yard is carries could be Marvin Mimms got three
carries for seventeen yards. So Marvin Mimms got more work
than Javonte Williams today. Julia McLoughlin didn't really get a
lot of work today. Is that something that we're gonna
continue to see? So, I mean again, the way I

(40:53):
break this thing down is is some of the guys
that I'd like to see more work for, like example, Devon,
like to see him continue to get more work. I
think that he's one of the Broncos better wide receivers
on the team, cortl and the sudden continues to be
wide receiver one and then the light to see the
tight ends get some work in there. Three oh three, seven,

(41:14):
five eighty five. Let's get one more call in here
before we get to break.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
Barry, you're up next to here.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
What's up, Barry, Terry, Terry Man? Oh hey, Terry, what's
going on? How are you man?

Speaker 7 (41:25):
I'm I'm I'm I'm sick and I'm upset. And this
is one of the worst losses. Uh and I've been
around for when I had to go to school after
we got beat by the Giants in the Super Bowl
and by the San Francisco in the Super Bowl fifty
five to ten, and have to get ridicued by by
and and and the reason is, and all these fans

(41:48):
are like, well, we played it perfectly. Listen. With one
minute and forty six seconds left, Kansas City United their
third and final timeout, one minute and forty five and
forty six seconds left. At one point, Ryan, you have
to you have to try to get closer. An extra
point we know these days is not a chip shot.
There's no chip shots. Listen, Kennessee don't even they have

(42:10):
no respect for us anyway. On fourth down on at
the end of the thing, they go for it and
get the touchdown. To beat these guys. You can't play scared.
We haven't beat them in what eight seasons? Now, this
is if you talk about not beating your rival in college. Man,
this is this is crazy. And just to just here's
the thing with Peyton, I know he's probably gonna be back.

(42:31):
I wish I could go talk to the Walton group
or whoever, because this guy, I'm sorry, the game is
passing by. Let's let's let's get to the facts of it.
The facts of the matter is, we played the great game.
Decus is great, but we only scored fourteen points. And
I remember when Russell restlooks Russell wilsonscume just scored fourteen points.
That was the issue. Tim Peebow scoring fourteen We scored
fourteen points in the NFL game. And Sean Payton, he

(42:53):
tries to get why are you tell me? Why are
you handing the ball off three times? The memes and
he's a receiver. Come on, Ryan, he's a receiver. Why
are we running the ball to him? And then this
is what, this is what Peyton cannot help himself. The
Broncos on certain drives, they'll hand the ball off against
seven yards and then he calls a replay for Knicks.

(43:15):
You're not Lamar Jackson. You just ran for seven yards, Sean,
call another run play. You're supposed to be this genius
and no, and you continue to put the players in
a bad positions to fail. This is strictly on him,
because bad Joseph and his people did their part. They
did their part. But because Sean cannot get out of

(43:37):
his own way, it's him. He continues, what, we got
a different different players in there, We still got him
in there. We still got him. This was a game
that absolutely should have won. Absolutely should have won this game.
Now you're five and five. Now, depending on how you
bounce back. Now now your season, you go from possibly

(43:59):
having a chance to meet make the playoffs to once
again being back in the draft again. I cannot stand
this coach man with a passion I case, I can't
believe I'll spend forty nine years of my life rooting
for the Denver broncos Man, and this is what the
organization has come came down to him. I they would
take my media pass if I was in the locker
room with that guy, because he's he just doesn't get it.

(44:20):
He doesn't put the Again, I just want to know,
why are you heading off the ball to mens as
a running back three times? Who are you fooling when
you won't send him down the field in his strength,
but you call a pitch the mems? Are you serious?
So it's just it's just it doesn't I just think
the game has passed him by. Where where is the

(44:41):
great Andy Reid? Coaches circles around him, man, and yeah
he has a better quarterback and yet but but if
you put the people in position to succeed by not
calling three straight guys with one forty seven left and
trying to kick a thirty five yarder, which again, anything
can go wrong. You don't have to up the ball
in the air. Ryan, you don't have to do that.

(45:01):
You can at least make a better creative play to
try to get some yards because they were doing they
were doing great.

Speaker 3 (45:07):
And then okay, hold hold on, hold on, hold on.
You feel a bustard enough, let me let me at
least respond to a couple of things there, Terry. First
of all, if if you are more aggressive, just we're
playing the hypothetical here, you are more aggressive, you throw
an incomplete pass, well, then that's going to give more
time back.

Speaker 1 (45:23):
To Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs. So that's one thing
you're you're being careful of. Right.

Speaker 3 (45:27):
You don't want to you don't want to do that.
You don't want to give time to Patrick Mahomes. Again,
I like the way they close that thing down. Yeah,
maybe you could be a little more aggressive, but I
come back to it, the time was the bigger thing.
You didn't want to give any time to the Kansas
City Chiefs on offense because they've they've done this over
and over and over again. Your opinion on Sean Payton,

(45:47):
I mean, you might not be alone on it. Some
people don't believe he's the right guy. I think in
part of why they have the record they have is
in part because of Sean Payton. But again that's a
thing we can sort of dissect on another day. One
thing I will say, and then I'll bring you back
on I didn't hang up on you. The whole Andy
Reid coaching circles around him. I'm not exactly sure I

(46:11):
believe or agree with that. First of all, it's one
thing for Andy Reid who's now won three championships with
mostly this roster. They're back to back champions He's got
arguably the best quarterback on the planet, and that does
buy you some mobility out there.

Speaker 1 (46:27):
Now.

Speaker 3 (46:27):
Nobody puts excuses on this thing, especially on Hey, you
chose to go with a rookie quarterback, right, you're Sean Payton.
You chose to go with the rookie quarterback. Nobody gives
you an asterisk next to this game, like, well, you lost,
but you lost with a rookie versus Pactor Mahomes and
the Chiefs. You're a seven and a half point underdog
for a reason, partly because the Chiefs are who they
are and they're in the midst of a dynasty. So

(46:49):
I actually thought the the Broncos had a really great
game plan. It's frustrating that they didn't come up with
more in the second half. And maybe we go through
after the fact and kind of nitpick here and there
about some of the play calls, and I mean, get
Marvin Mims. You're just trying to throw some some things
at them that they hadn't seen, hadn't done a lot
with Marvi Ms, so at least you were trying something
new there. But Terry, I guess I disagree with you

(47:12):
on a couple of points of your finer points there
about coaching circles around around Sean Payton, and again the
play calling at the end, it was very clear the
design of it was to give yourself as close a
field goal as you could, close the field goal attempt
as you could, while making sure that you ran some clock.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
All right, I'll give you a chance to respond before
we hit the break.

Speaker 7 (47:36):
Okay, here's the thing. Here's the thing, Ryan, at some point,
we have no expectations. Like you said, we came in
the seven point underdog. At some point you got to
stop playing. You can't be fearful of these guys. You
have to figure your defense has stopped them all game.
They had no timeouts left. So at least, if you know,
I'm not saying you put the ball in the air,

(47:57):
but at least get more creative than just running this
straight three times and then using your time out. That's
all I'm saying, because the thirty five yard is just
it's we've seen them miss extra points, that's the thing.
And everything has to go right now. If you're if
you're down at the ten and you're kicking the twenty
eight yarder or something like that, I have a little

(48:17):
bit more more confidence. And then here's my thing. What
I mean by coaching the circles, I mean before the
half on fourth and goal, Denver's defense for Kansas City
to go for that. It was a great play call,
by the way.

Speaker 1 (48:30):
Mcgillen just got.

Speaker 7 (48:32):
Beautiful play call. Yeah, I mean I can't what can
you do. It's a great That's all. That's all I'm saying.
It's just it's just give your players an opportunity. If
Ryan nobody was expecting us to win, so if we
if if this was such a moment, I mean, I
see Mason said he's never seen he hasn't seen the
locker room this devastated sins to Baltimore lost. This is
such a culture defining change of the whole all the

(48:56):
last few seasons, win Ryan a win in Kansas City, undefeated.
I mean you talk about the confidence that this would
have gave the group. I agree. Now I just feel like, right,
I'm hurt, right, I mean, we still got what seven
games left, and I'm sick. I'm sick about it.

Speaker 13 (49:14):
Man.

Speaker 7 (49:14):
But hey, man, as you as will, you do a
great job on the show. Thank you for listening to
my rant. Yes, sometimes the sky is falling and it
will all be better tomorrow, I hope, Terry.

Speaker 3 (49:24):
I respect it, man, you know I appreciate you calling
in and yeah, man, I listen. I'm not going to
tell you you're wrong on any of it. I mean,
I disagree with some of it. But that's that's what
we get to do this, right, We get to have
discussion points. I get to tell you, hey, I I
see where you're coming from. And there's plenty of reason
to be frustrated. Right the other side of it, you
could change a lot of what you are in the

(49:45):
narrative that you are. As soon as this week you
beat the Atlanta Falcons, you go on the road and
you beat the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (49:52):
You split the month of November.

Speaker 3 (49:56):
But again, this one could have been to your point,
the last point you ma there. This one could have
been a signature win for the franchise, could have been
a signature win for Bo Nicks, for Sean Payton. You
snap their winning streak that they're currently on. You do
it at Arrowhead. Yeah, it was all right there for you.

(50:18):
Well come back three oh three seven one, three eighty
five eighty five. Today's game brought to you by Carl
