Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ian, my friend, good afternoons or how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:02):
What's going on? How you guys doing.

Speaker 3 (00:03):
We're doing great, getting fired up for the postseason here
and of course the big news Justin Herbert along with
it sounds like per Jim Harbaugh, coach Harbaugh, several players
for the Chargers are not going to play in this game.

Speaker 1 (00:14):
What are you hearing?

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Yeah, I mean, once once you get win that the
quarterback is not going to play, then I think it's
all sort of up for grabs, and you know, it's
it's pretty significant now, like, look like Trey Lance, maybe
he plays well and you know, maybe something crazy happens,
and who knows, you never know, but it really seems like,
you know, you're looking at the Broncos maybe getting the
number one seed, and you know that can have fall

(00:38):
ranging ramifications, but I think if you're the Chargers, the
only real important thing that matters is like do you
have a shot at winning the Super Bowl? Like do
you have a shot at getting to the playoffs? And
Justin Herbert's pretty banged up, and I think obviously without
him they don't. So you know, this makes sense. You know,
this makes sense from from sort of their stamp point

(01:01):
but it does affect a lot of other teams.

Speaker 4 (01:04):
So, Ian, what's the latest news on Lamar Jackson, Because
this past week and we saw Derrick Henry featured in
the way that we haven't seen featured all season long,
and I know having Lamar Jackson back in the fall
would definitely give the Ravens a boost against the Steelers.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Do you think that he could actually play?

Speaker 2 (01:24):
I think he could actually play. Now, you know, the
Ravens are being cautious. They don't want to assume anything.
You know, I would say, the way it's healed, they're optimistic.
But you know, we've seen a couple of these times
where you know, they've thought that Lamar was gonna play
and he had them when he was coming back from
his hamsterring injury. I think they're pretty you know, optimistic
that he was going to go and then just couldn't. Now,

(01:45):
when he came back, he was okay, but just couldn't
go at that point, So they, you know, they're being
a little more cautious. But committing to Derrick Henry like
they did, committing to the run game like they did.
They got a nice little change of pace with Keaton
Mitchell that that's kind of used regularly and keep it
Derrerik Hennery not about fresh but fresh ish. They seem
to have found something. It's just a matter of can

(02:07):
they get past the Steelers. And you know, look if
Lamar plays and if he's looking like his old self
and they're gonna run the ball like they are, the
defense is good like they they might have something. They
might be this Ravens team that we thought they were
all along.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
So interesting with these two teams, right because it's a winner,
go home situation. We're not used to seeing that necessarily
for Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh. But what do you
think about those two coaches position with their respective teams,
assuming one of these obviously is not going to get in,
What does this mean that they're on the hot seat?

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, I mean I don't know about hot seat tho.
I'm gonna asked a lot of questions about it.

Speaker 5 (02:45):
And it's the NFL, and.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
You know, you really never know who's on the hot
seat and who's not, because I think anyone, you know,
the seat can get very warm suddenly, and we've seen
it happen. I mean, the Ravens just gave Harbor an
extension last year and he is.

Speaker 5 (03:01):
You know, if they were going to move on from him, they'd.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Have to have somebody better, and then it's like, Okay,
well who's better? And I think same thing for tom Win.
You know, I think when Mike Tomlin leaves the Steelers,
it'll be when he decides he wants to take a break.
That's what it's going to be.

Speaker 5 (03:16):
It's not going to be when everyone's asking questions, is
not going to be.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
It's just going to be when he decides. That's the
compilation he has with the organization.

Speaker 5 (03:24):
It's not totally the same with Harball, but again, like
they believed in him enough to give him a big
extension before the season.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
So unless they knew for sure they were getting somebody better,
which honestly, look at the coaches available and who even
is that, it would certainly be a risk.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
I saw something coming in today about Marcus Freeman, Notre
Dame head coach, and the fact that he was actually
returning back to Notre Dame. How big was kind of
the push from you know, NFL team to possibly get
him to jump from college football to the pro game.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
I mean, I think there was interest. You know, I
think if he would have gotten a Giants interview. Probably
would he really have done it? You know, I don't know.
I think part of the problem is if you're the
Notre Dame coach, yes, I mean, the NFL is awaring,
it's it's interesting, but you always have a pretty good
team coming back. And I think if you're Marcus Freeman,
you know, there's been several times where he's been like, yeah,

(04:19):
maybe the NFL, but I got this guy coming back.
I got this guy coming back. I can really, you know,
could win a national championship this year, and I think
that's that's something that generally keeps those guys there.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
And I think the other thing is, you know, we
haven't seen a lot.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Of examples of college coaches coming to the NFL and
really succeeding. I mean, Harbaugh to me doesn't count at
least not anymore, because you know, he obviously was coaching
the forty nine ers before he went back to college.
So you know, I don't know that anything's a sure thing,
but certainly when you change genres, essentially go from college

(04:55):
to the NFL is not a short thing. So I
don't know that it really really would have happened.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
What's your take on what's going on with the Raiders
Max Crosby situation, as well as Pete Carroll's future.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Well, Pete Carroll's future, I think it's fair to say
is pretty much in doubt. I mean, I get you know,
I get a strong sense that, you know, I get
a strong sense that they'll move on from him, and
we'll see what happens. It's Mark Davis, and you never
really know, but you know, it's been such an unbelievable
disaster that it's really it's really tough to imagine them

(05:28):
moving on with him. As far as Max, you know,
we'll see, because you know, it's the only organization he's
been with. They paid him a couple of different I
think three times they've paid him. I've talked to Mark Davis,
the owner, about it, and every time I've talked to him,
he's talked about that that's someone he just could not trade.
So in order for that to happen, he would have
to relent. But on the other hand, you know, if

(05:49):
they do trade him, then I think you're looking at
a full rebuild, which you're going to get the number
one pick and you're not, you know, inches away from winning.
That makes sense to me, so it'll be a fascinating
off season in Las Vegas. But if they do rebuild fully,
I would say that would make some sense.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
And do you think that NFL talent evaluators need to
reevaluate their evaluation process?

Speaker 1 (06:13):
And here's what I mean by that.

Speaker 4 (06:15):
Last night we saw two quarterbacks, one and mister irrelevant
and the other guy in Kate Williams, who people really
said that he was a bus at his first year.
But those two guys put on one hell of a show.
So is it time for us to kind of rethink
this evaluation process of quarterbacks?

Speaker 2 (06:33):
I mean, I don't know that there's a better way
or there's any indicator. I mean, that's the problem. Is
like I go through it every year where you talk
to the best people available, talk to experts, and they'll
tell you that, all right, this guy is a surefire success.
That's like Trevor Lawrence is a great example. You know,
early on with Urban Meyer, he was bad, and then

(06:57):
with Doug Peterson he was pretty good until he was
not that good, and then halfway through the year with
with Liam he was not very good, and now he's
very good. And it's like, what does that all even mean?
It's just so hard. I mean, Jadon Daniels was not
very good this year. Last year he was great. I
just I think, really the only thing I would reevaluate

(07:17):
is how we all judge it. We as like a
football watching public. And then maybe, you know, maybe we've
put too much emphasis on strength and speed instead of
ability to process. I think that would probably be the
other thing, But that's kind of come up in years.
I think Brock probably you know, caused all of us
to learn that processing and understanding is as important as anything.

(07:41):
But it's so inexact that, you know, I'll have the
smartest people every year. Tell me, I know this quarterback's
not good and he ends up as Josh Allen.

Speaker 1 (07:51):
Great point ian. Always appreciate it, man.

Speaker 3 (07:54):
We will check in with you after the conclusion of
the regular season next week.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
Wow, that's crazy about all right? Thanks?

Speaker 1 (08:00):
All right there, all right, Thanks you and Rappingport
