Everett Cleaner Energy.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Ian my friend, Good afternoons? Or how are you?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
What's going on? How you guys doing?
Speaker 1 (00:18):
We're doing great, getting fired up for the postseason here
and of course the big news justin Herbert along with
it sounds like per Jim Harbaugh, coach Harbaugh, several players
for the Chargers are not going to play in this game.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
What are you hearing?
Speaker 3 (00:31):
Yeah, I mean once once you get win that the
quarterback is not going to play, then I think it's
all sort of up for grabs, and you know, it's
it's pretty significant now, Like look like Trey Lance, maybe
he plays well and you know, maybe something crazy happens
and who knows, and you never know, but it certainly
seems like, you know, you're looking at the Broncos maybe
getting the number one seed, and you know that can
(00:53):
have far ranging ramifications, but.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
I think it there the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
The only real important.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Thing that matters is like do you have a.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
Shot at winning the Super Bowl? Like do you have
a shot at getting to the playoffs? And Justin Herbert's
pretty banged up, and I think obviously without him they don't.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
So you know, this makes sense.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
You know, this makes sense from from sort of their standpoint,
but it does affect a lot of other teams.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
So, Ian, what's the latest news on Lamar Jackson? Because
this past weekend we saw Derrick Henry featured in a
way that we haven't seen featured all season long. And
I know having Lamar Jackson back in the fall would
definitely give the Ravens a boost against the Steelers.
Speaker 6 (01:35):
Do you think that he could actually play?
Speaker 4 (01:39):
I think he could actually play.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
Now. You know, the Ravens are being cautious. They don't
want to assume anything. You know, I would say, the
way it's healed, they're optimistic.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
But you know, we've seen a couple of these times.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Where you know, they've thought that Lamar was going to
play and he hasn't. When he was coming back from
his hamsterring injury, I think they're pretty you know, optimistic
that he was going to go and then just could
now when he came back. He was okay, but just
couldn't go at that point. So you know, they're being
a little more cautious, but committing to Derrick Henry like
they did, committing to the run game like they did.
(02:10):
They got a nice little change of pace with Keith
Mitchell that they've kind of used regularly and keep it
Derreck Henry not about fresh but fresh ish. They seem
to have found something. It's just a matter of can
they get past the Steelers. And you know, look, if
Lamar plays and if he's looking like his old self
and they're going to run the ball like they are,
the defense is good, like they might have something. They
(02:33):
might be this raven team that we thought they were
all along.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
So interesting with these two teams, right because it's a
winner go home situation. We're not used to seeing that
necessarily for Mike Tomlin and John Harbaugh. But what do
you think about those two coaches position with their respective teams,
assuming one of these obviously is not going to get in.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
What does this mean that they're on the hot seat?
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know about hot seat. I'm
gonna ask a lot of questions about it.
Speaker 4 (03:00):
And it's the NFL and you know.
Speaker 3 (03:02):
You you really never know who's on the hot seat
and who's not, because I think anyone, you know, the
seat can get very warm suddenly, and we've seen it happen.
I mean, the Ravens just gave Harbaugh an extension last
year and he is you know.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
If they were going to move on from him, they'd.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Have to have somebody better, and then it's like, Okay,
well who's better? And I think same thing for Tomlin.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
You know, I think when Mike Tomlin.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Leaves the Steelers, it'll be when he decides he wants
to take a break. That's what it's going to be.
Speaker 4 (03:31):
It's not gonna be when everyone's asking questions.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
It's not going to be. It's just gonna be when
he decides. That's the compilation he has with the organization.
It's not totally the same with Harball. But again, like
they believed in him enough to give him a big
extension before the season. So unless they knew for sure
they were getting somebody better, which honestly, look at the
coaches available and who even is that, it would certainly
be a risk.
Speaker 5 (03:55):
I saw something coming in today about Marcus Freeman, Notre
Dame head coach he was actually returning back to Notre Dame.
How big was kind of the push from, you know,
NFL team to possibly get him to jump from college football.
Speaker 6 (04:10):
To the pro game.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
I mean, I think there was interest.
Speaker 3 (04:14):
You know, I think if he would have gotten a
Giants interview, probably would he really have done it? You know,
I don't know. I think part of the problem is
if you're the Notre Dame coach, yes, I mean the
NFL is awaring, it's it's interesting, but you always have
a pretty good team coming back. And I think if
you're Marcus Freeman, you know, there's been several times where
he's been like, yeah, maybe the NFL, but I got
(04:35):
this guy coming back. I got this guy coming back.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
I can really, you know, could win.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
A national championship this year. And I think that's that's
something that generally keeps those guys there.
Speaker 4 (04:47):
And I think the other thing is, you know, we
haven't seen a lot.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Of examples of college coaches coming to the NFL and
really succeeding. I mean, Harvall to me doesn't count, but
he's not anymore because you know, he obviously was coaching
the forty nine or before he went back to college,
so you know, I don't know that anything's a sure thing,
but certainly when you change genres, essentially go from college
(05:10):
to the NFL, it's not a short thing. So I
don't know that it really really would have happened.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
What's your take on what's going on with the Raiders
Max Crosby situation as well as Pete Carroll's.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
Future, Well, Pete Carroll's future, I think it's fair to
say it's pretty much in doubt. I mean, I get
you know, I get a strong sense that, you know,
I get a strong sense that they'll move on from him,
and we'll see what happens. It's Mark Davis, and you
never really know, but you know, it's been such an
unbelievable disaster. That's it's really it's really tough to imagine
(05:42):
them moving on with him. As far as Max. You know,
we'll see, because you know, it's the only organization he's
been with. They paid him a couple of different I
think three times they've paid him.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
I've talked to.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Mark Davis, the owner, about it, and every time I've
talked to him, he's talked about that that's someone he
just could not trade. So in order for that to happen,
he would have to relent. But on the other hand,
you know, if they do trade them, then I think
you're looking at a full rebuild, which you're going to
get the number one pick and you're not.
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Inches away from winning.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
That makes sense to me.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
So it'll be a fascinating off season Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
But if they do rebuild fully, I would say that
would make some sense.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
And do you think that NFL talent evaluators need to
reevaluate their evaluation process?
Speaker 6 (06:28):
And here's what I mean by that.
Speaker 5 (06:30):
Last night we saw two quarterbacks, one and mister irrelevant
and the other guy in King Williams, who people really
said that he was a bus at his first year.
But those two guys put on one hell of a show.
So is it time for us to kind of rethink
this evaluation process of quarterbacks?
Speaker 3 (06:48):
I mean, I don't know that there's a better way
or there's any indicator. I mean, that's the problem is
like I go through it every year where you talk
to the best people available, talk to experts, and they'll
tell you that I Sky is a sure fire success.
That's like Trevor Lawrence is a great example. You know,
early on with Urban Meyer, he was bad, and then
(07:11):
with Doug Peterson he was pretty good until he was
not that good, and then halfway through the year with
with Liam he was not very good, and now he's
very good.
Speaker 4 (07:22):
And it's like, what does that all even mean?
Speaker 3 (07:24):
It's just so hard. I mean, Jayden Daniels was not
very good this year. Last year he was great. I
just I think, really the only thing I would reevaluate
is how we all judge it. We as like a
football watching public, and then maybe, you know, maybe we
put too much emphasis on strength and speed instead of
ability to process. I think that would probably be the
(07:44):
other thing. But that's kind of come up in years.
I think Brock probably, you know, caused all of us
to learn that processing and understanding is as important as anything.
But it's so inexact that, you know, I'll have this
artist people every year tell me, I know this quarterback's
not good and ends up as Josh Allen.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
You know, great point, Ian, I always appreciate it.
Speaker 5 (08:08):
Man.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
We will check in with you after the conclusion of
the regular season next week.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Appreciate you.
Speaker 3 (08:13):
Wow, that's crazy to think about.
Speaker 6 (08:15):
All right, Thanks guy, right there?
Speaker 2 (08:16):
All right?
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Thanks Ian rappaport Our NFL Network insider, it is kind
of wild to think about that will be on the
other side of it heading to the postseason. Interestingly enough, Nick,
we hadn't we booked the interview with Shannon before the
Justin Herbert news because we wanted to have somebody on
from out in Los Angeles to speculate with us a
(08:37):
little bit about what the Charger's mindset might be. And
then now moments later, Jim Harbaugh comes out and says, man,
we might be mentioned everybody that has any kind of
ailment or injury to Ian's point right there, laying it
out perfectly in the end, the path to winning a
Super Bowl, which is you don't go to the postseason
(08:58):
just to get to the postseason. Go to the postseason
with a chance to win a championship. That's why everybody
is there, especially a team like the Chargers, right, And
I say that across the board for everybody. Some teams
are like, hey, the experience is great. We know that
maybe we're a year early, like Jacksonville. But then you
still talk yourselves into the mindset of like we can
do it.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
Anybody can do it. We're here, We're in the dance.
So if you're the Chargers.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
Your best path to that, Asian pointed out, is with
the healthy justin Herbert, Yeah right.
Speaker 5 (09:27):
I would have listeners who also understand this too as well.
When we get to the final two teams representing the
NFC and the NFC and the Super Bowl, I would
go out on the limb and say this, it's not
necessarily the best teams that are in the Super Bowl. Granted,
those teams did a lot and climb the ladder, and
(09:48):
they had to do a lot to get there. The
most important thing for me is who's the healthiest team? Right,
it's usually the teams that have been able to be
healthy from week one, week twenty sellthing. And because I'm
counting the Super Bowls as well, those teams who wind
away they're blessed four leaf clover knocking will whatever they're
(10:11):
able to accomplish that they find themselves on the right
side of things. And when you don't, it really hurts
you because just think about all the teams and then
the Charges being one of those guys one of those
teams rather have been banged up, right, and teams want
to get healthy at the right time, like you're playing
your best ball at the right time of the season
because you have all your I mean all your bullzon
(10:34):
the chamber if you want to call it that way,
and all the players on the field.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
And once again I go.
Speaker 5 (10:39):
Back to the ideology of coach Harbrough. This doesn't guarantee
that they're going to actually advance deep in the playoffs,
but the idea is that you sacrifice so much to
get to this point, why not sacrifice one more game
to make sure that your marquee players are healthy well?
Speaker 1 (10:56):
And to that point, you think about it in terms
of you could start almost start your work on the Patriots, right,
Like understand, it's not like a buye. You don't get
to treat it like a bye like the Broncos with
getting the one seed or the forty nine ers potentially
get the win.
Speaker 2 (11:11):
It's not the same.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
But you could start your work early in earnest knowing
most things are going to break a certain way. And
then I think that, I mean, I can tell you
what the games are here for a second.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Here, like you have.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
The Jaguars are playing the Titans, right, Jaguars are favored
by eleven and a half.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Texans are playing the Colts.
Speaker 1 (11:28):
They're favored by ten and the Bills are playing the Jets,
they're favorite by seven and a half, and then that
number will probably grow even then. So all three of
those games are expected to go to the favorite. And
if you're the Chargers, you understand, under the circumstances, you could,
in essence give yourself a bit of a bye week
and you just start in earnest preparing for the Patriots.
Speaker 2 (11:47):
You just say, we understand what this is.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
And we know that if we could go all out
in this game, get even more banged up and then
still lose and still have to go play the Patriots
or the cutter losses, and we recognize what it is
and that now you have a chance. It would be
great to play spoiler to the Broncos. But maybe you
just view this as too much of an uphill climb.
Now you get your prep going for the Patriots right away.
Speaker 5 (12:13):
I would agree with that, and I wouldn't be surprised
if coach Harbard he said one thing to the media,
but he's telling his team another thing. Earlier on in
the season, we played this Denver Broncos team, we beat
them twenty three to twenty. Say what you want to
say about the outcome or whatever. We're gonna go ahead
and toss this game away because we know that that's
possibly going to be the team that's standing in our.
Speaker 6 (12:35):
Way to try to get to Levi Stadium.
Speaker 5 (12:38):
So we would rather lose now knowing as that we're
gonna face this Broncos team again.
Speaker 6 (12:44):
And gentlemen, wouldn't you rather face.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
This team at full strength like we did week one
or whatever week that was, Week three or week four?
A post is facing them now and we're not at
full strength, So it makes sense. Maybe for fans, they
may not see it that way, but from a coach,
it's all.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
About making sacrifice.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
We were talking about this on a break as far
as sacrifice as a concern, But if you're making a
sacrifice now, noise always gonna it could pay dividends later on.
Speaker 6 (13:13):
That makes sense.
Speaker 5 (13:14):
And this is the way you have to think as
a coach, even though it may not make sense to
anyone else.
Speaker 1 (13:19):
But I've seen, like I was kind of surfing through
Chargers fans Twitter over the last couple of days since
they lost to the Texans, and by and large, now
this isn't everybody, because you're never gonna have unanimous agreement
on anything, but by and.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
Large, most Chargers fans were rooting for this outcome. I'm
not a kidding really.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
As soon as they lost to the Texans, Chargers fans
were like, you know what, bench as many guys as
you can next week. Let's just get ready for the Patriots.
We're already in We already know we're playing in wild
card weekend where we know we're traveling. They also understand
not only what's going on with the team and how
banged up they are. And they saw Justin Herbert out there.
(13:59):
I mean he was He's a warrior. I have so
much respect for Justin Hurman, respect for him, unbelievable player,
and boy he has gutting it out.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
You can tell he is not one hundred percent or
even close to that.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
But you look at it another terms of that, and
like I said, most Chargers fans that I saw, and
we'll start checking with a Shannon coming to the top
of the hour, most Chargers fans I saw were very
supportive of the idea of what Jim Harbaugh ultimately did.
And it makes sense, like I said, logically, tracks it's
sort of a tough pill to swallow because I know
that there's this competitive nature to everything.
Speaker 6 (14:31):
Okay, See, that's the thing. Like we saw with Pete Carrow,
he sat down Brock Blowers. Yeah, Max Cross, that's right.
Speaker 5 (14:38):
We know that they're an entirely different scenario than the Chargers.
But I can tell you from a players standpoint, that's
the worst thing a player wants to hear.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
Yeah, listen, hey man, we have to sit you down.
We want to do with in the.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Best interest of you. Because players want to go out
there and play. Also, there's incentives and contracts, no.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Doubt about that.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
But I imagine for those guys, they may play a
couple series whatever, if they need three or four catches,
get those incentives.
Speaker 2 (15:03):
And get out of there.
Speaker 6 (15:04):
Hopefully that's the case.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
We got two games here locally.
Speaker 1 (15:08):
We got the Patriots and Jets, which was just.
Speaker 2 (15:12):
A terrible game. I mean great if you're a Patriots fan.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
It was nice to see Drake may throw five touchdown
passes and they get pinched. That was great, But then
you know, you just think it kind of a I
don't know, a bit of a downer game between the
Browns and the Steelers. But then every single snap I
even have my daughter was watching the game with me for.
Speaker 6 (15:28):
A little bit I mean not really.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
I was explaining, like, you could be watching history, like
Miles Garrett might set the sack right number ninety five
right there, watch him the entire time.
Speaker 6 (15:40):
That's what I'm saying. Yes, it's a moment for you.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
I was trying to explain that to her.
Speaker 6 (15:43):
She was like, I don't get it.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Just whatever. Yes, but she was hanging out with me
and so it was fine.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
But anyways, that game became very interesting because of that
and every extra offensive possession because the Steelers didn't need
the game and so the Steelers were still playing hard.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
They just weren't playing well well. But every single.
Speaker 1 (16:01):
Time Aaron Rodgers dropped back to pass, it's like, oh,
here we go, here we go.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
And he was in Cleveland.
Speaker 5 (16:08):
It never happened because they put either a tight end
or running back to chipping. So I asked you doing
the break, and I'll ask you guys on the text line, tell.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
Me, I mean, what would it be worth it for you?
Because that's what I posed to you.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Like, Okay, Miles Garrett Niston sacking and they're playing Joe
Burrow in the Cincinnati Bengals, would Burrow pull a Brett
Favre like like he did for Australian.
Speaker 6 (16:37):
And allow him to get the sack.
Speaker 5 (16:39):
Or if you are that right or left tackle, if
you are Miles Garrett, do you offer that guy fety
grand to let you get that sack?
Speaker 2 (16:49):
I think you'd want the quarterback in on it, right,
You don't need a.
Speaker 5 (16:52):
Quarterback, You just need the left tackle or right tackle
to say, yes, they're just gonna let you slide by
you problem not to hurt their quarterback, to put him
down very gently.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
Well, let me get that sack.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
That's kind of messed up, Nick, We mean, how's that
messed up?
Speaker 6 (17:07):
How's that messed up?
Speaker 2 (17:08):
I like during the break, I'm like, I do it.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
Yes, I'm glad you were out of yourself because these
are the things that you actually do.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
Like Grant, if you were the left or right tackle
for who they Nation and Miles Garrett called you up
and say, hey, man, I got look, I want to
make sure I break the record both you and I
be a part of history. And oh, by the way,
I got fifty stacks for you.
Speaker 7 (17:34):
Do you take it being on the wrong side of history?
Speaker 3 (17:44):
Man?
Speaker 8 (17:44):
No, No, it's just like, hey, Mives it was against
Miles Gathert, who's always already leading its sacks, So if
it happens, people are like, you know, what bad that
it happened to you, But.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
It was Miles Garett.
Speaker 7 (17:58):
Wouldn't it be so much sweeter if you're the guy
that keeps Miles Garrett from breaking the sack record.
Speaker 2 (18:03):
See I'm actually on the side and know this hold
on for all of us.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
We're rooting for this for the record, right, But it's
a division rival, right, Cincinnati Cleveland's like, you don't want
to be the team.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Now.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
If he earns it, and he gets it legitimately, well
then that's what it is.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
You tip your cap because he's that kind of player.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
He's a twenty two sacks, needs to get to twenty three,
twenty two and a half ties.
Speaker 2 (18:22):
Twenty three gets you. So I'd say, if you're the Bengals.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
And if he gets legitimately, fine, but you as a
division rival, you don't really want to be there.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
Wait.
Speaker 5 (18:34):
Wait, first of all, he played against Cincinnati. Historically the
offensive line hasn't been great, so Miles Gartart is probably
gonna get it anyway. So what I mean, You're got
to be part of history. So what don't you want
to have? Like fifty stacks in your pocket.
Speaker 2 (18:47):
So this is the deal.
Speaker 1 (18:47):
If I'm Cincinnati, my game plan this week is more
or less, we're to look.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Like with the pitstop prison.
Speaker 6 (18:54):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
No matter what we do, I don't care if we
score a single point in.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
This game, not this guy.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
We will not allow Miles Garrett to have his day
no matter what. Now, the rest of the country is
gonna be rooting for Miles Garrett for the most part. Yeah,
I'm sure there's some people that don't like him or
don't like the Rowns. But if you're the Cincinnati Bengals,
we don't do anything else. We'll put three guys overall
Miles Garrett.
Speaker 6 (19:23):
That's that his was gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (19:26):
They're gonna they're gonna put like Zach Tale's gonna put
like two guys.
Speaker 6 (19:29):
On him and all game he's gonna beat those two
guys and he's gonna get the sack.
Speaker 5 (19:33):
And those two guys are gonna be a part of
history in a negative way. And no money in their pocket.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
So you didn't think that the Pittsburgh Steelers like it
seemed to me when I was watching the game, Grant
and I were agreeing on this it seemed like the
Pittsburgh Steelers only motivation was to stop Miles Garrett.
Speaker 2 (19:48):
That's what it felt like in that game.
Speaker 5 (19:50):
Any team offensively and you're facing a guy like Miles Garrett,
you're gonna make sure that you give him your attention
because he's a bona fide game record is true, I
don't think the Pittsburgh Stillers are the smith and Mike
Tomlin said, hey, we got to make sure that we're
just going to negate our whole offensive game plan just
to stop this one guy.
Speaker 6 (20:09):
Come on, man, if it's not a ten to four
a haad theory, I don't know what is.
Speaker 2 (20:13):
It sure felt like it. I'm just saying, like, watching
that game, Grant, would you.
Speaker 7 (20:17):
Mean like Aaron Rodgers got rid of the ball pretty
quick A couple of times?
Speaker 6 (20:20):
Just say, wait, wait.
Speaker 5 (20:21):
Do quarterbacks not do that when they're facing an elite pass?
Speaker 3 (20:26):
Was?
Speaker 6 (20:26):
How quickly can I get the ball out of my hands? Right?
Speaker 5 (20:29):
So I'm thinking that's what Aaron was doing, because Aaron
has been known to have somewhat of a quick release
getting the ball out of his hands. But you guys
seem to think that.
Speaker 8 (20:38):
No.
Speaker 7 (20:38):
I'm even smiling back at Miles Garrett after throwing it away.
Speaker 5 (20:42):
Well, that's Aaron Rodgers being little Aaron Rodgers. It's a
little who you thought you had me? Huh.
Speaker 1 (20:49):
I'm telling you it felt at many points, especially on
that of those last couple drives.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
Whatever we do.
Speaker 6 (20:57):
Ryan, Now, you want to win the game, you.
Speaker 1 (20:59):
Want to have bull Would you understand that?
Speaker 5 (21:01):
I mean that that would be so ridiculous where you
put yourself in a situation where you're winning, go home
situation at home against the Baltimore Ravens, all because you
wanted to make sure you stop one guy from getting
the all.
Speaker 6 (21:13):
Time sack record. That's just ridiculous.
Speaker 1 (21:15):
Hey, there's there's levels of petty. As you know in
this league. There are levels to this thing. There is
less sure you can't. Can you not imagine Mike Tomlin
and Aaron Rodgers being like, man, listen, we need this game.
But guess what, even if we lose this game, we
get to play. We're gonna play for a winner take
all next week. We're gonna trying to win this game,
(21:36):
but we are not letting that guy set the record
against us.
Speaker 5 (21:40):
But isn't that the mindset at any point in the season,
You know, a guy is really good. From an edge
rusher standpoint, or say linebacker standpoint, we're not just gonna
let this guy get the record on us, but not
enough to a point where you're just going to destroy
your whole whole offensive game plan us with this one guy.
Speaker 6 (22:02):
And I mean, wouldn't that be coaching malpractice? Would it?
Speaker 3 (22:04):
Not?
Speaker 1 (22:05):
A couple of texts here because you asked for text
reaction on the KWA Comma Spirit Health text light time zero.
My own conscience wouldn't allow me to enjoy the record
for the rest of my life doing it that way, Nick, what.
Speaker 5 (22:16):
You got fifty stacks? It could even be one hundred
grand because imagine, well imagine this now again we're negotiating.
Think about Miles Gaert probably hasn't insensive in this contract
that is set related right, and it has You say,
the escalators may take that money to I don't know,
(22:37):
say eight million dollars. What's one hundred thousand dollars between
France Ryan. All you have to do is let me
run around the edge and put him on the ground.
Speaker 1 (22:44):
Somebody said that Garretts never sacked Aaron Rodgers. I don't
think I knew that. So if you're saying you Rogers
only cared about stopping the Sack record. I would disagree. Okay,
see it just then it was just a really bad
game plan.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
There you go. That's how That's how I'm gonna look
at it. Okay, it was. It was just a horrible
game plan.
Speaker 5 (23:02):
What one hundred thousand dollars now two hundred thousand sounds
pretty good?
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Guys, will someone please tell me what Who Day is
all about? I'm asking you for a friend. Well, we
have grandsons, a resident Bengals fan.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
What is who Day?
Speaker 7 (23:16):
It's a song I sang who they think gonna beat
them Bengos?
Speaker 6 (23:20):
Nobody?
Speaker 7 (23:23):
And it's just got shortened to who Day after a while,
who Donation? And then's who Dat with the Saints? Nobody
cares about that. It's day.
Speaker 2 (23:33):
It's a day.
Speaker 1 (23:34):
No. I had a buddy that was a Cincinnati fan
when I was in college, and he would sing the
song for me because he was a huge Bengals fan,
and the simultaneous said like, well what's the Saints? When
he's like, don't ever bring that up in front of me, Like, okay,
what's the who d?
Speaker 6 (23:49):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Who Dat?
Speaker 6 (23:50):
Who that? And Who Day? That's right, but you.
Speaker 1 (23:53):
Don't dare you can't cross the Wow, this is bad stuff.
Five zero brand doesn't get enough love with his nonchalant takes.
We love grand yes, cred a lot of love of
the show. Yeah, yes, Miles would disagree with you, Nick.
(24:17):
Did you see his postgame presser. He said something along
the lines they were more focused on stopping me from
breaking the record than they were on winning. Yeah, I'm
not coming up. I'm not saying that without context. Miles
Garrett quite literally said that his postgame pressure or he thought.
Speaker 5 (24:31):
That based on the fact of how many players they
put on wherever he lined up, make sure you shift
another guy over there to make the Blockett.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Of course, of course, you're the same guy that thinks
you have the same pass, rush, effort and plan versus
Trey Lance that you'd have against Justin Herbert.
Speaker 6 (24:48):
I'm not changing my game plan for those dudes. Beat me,
beat me? How about that proval?
Speaker 1 (24:55):
Nick is pretty generous for someone else's money.
Speaker 6 (24:58):
Hey, that's right, Yes, and listen. By the end of
the show, we get to like, wait, I'm trying to
help him out.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Though, five.
Speaker 5 (25:07):
I'm trying to help you because once again, how much
you ask yourself. How much does the sack in the
record this year mean to Miles Garrett? Because who is
to say next year would be the same. You never know,
injury may happen, right, So how much would you be
willing to have to make history?
Speaker 6 (25:26):
Because everything comes down to dollars making sense? Does it not?
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Probably?
Speaker 6 (25:31):
Right?
Speaker 5 (25:31):
So if he were to call you and Grant, I've
the listeners, Now, are.
Speaker 6 (25:37):
We gonna keep it a buck? Or we just go
and try to make sure? Oh we're not gonna tell
the truth.
Speaker 5 (25:41):
But if Miles Garrett called you and you were a
tackle right, a left tackle for the Cincinnati Bengals, Hey man,
let me how let you for a second, right, I'm
up against it. I'm trying to get this sack record.
You could be a part of history. And oh, by
the way, I'm willing to put some change in your pocket.
Now we can start negotiating how much how much change
you're talking right, Miles may start.
Speaker 6 (26:03):
At eighty stacks.
Speaker 5 (26:05):
You may hear exactly, you may push it to. Well, Miles,
I looked at your contract. I know you haven't centives
you got you're gonna get eight million if you reach this.
Speaker 6 (26:16):
I need half a million dollars.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Do you need a little more than that?
Speaker 6 (26:21):
Now you're getting greedy?
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Huh.
Speaker 6 (26:25):
First of all, you didn't want in on this, but
now you I don't.
Speaker 2 (26:28):
Want it on it at all.
Speaker 6 (26:28):
Yes, you do. I just know you would turn money down.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
I already know our game plan is, we don't even
care if we score a single point.
Speaker 6 (26:35):
Just block you.
Speaker 2 (26:36):
We're gonna block you. I said, four guys your way.
Speaker 5 (26:39):
And then when he gets the sack and he looks
down at you, you could have had half a million.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
And then we're gonna use Liam Cohen style.
Speaker 1 (26:46):
This conversation that we're having right now, we're gonna use this.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
I'm recording this right now. We're gonna play this back
in the meeting room.
Speaker 6 (26:55):
That dude, can you believe Miles.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Garrett reached out to me to try to bribe me.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
And you know what your team is gonna say, well,
how much do you offer you?
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Yeah, the teammates are gonna be.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
And you say, well, you offered me half familion and
ain't gonna go and you didn't take it.
Speaker 6 (27:09):
Oh, I would have taken.
Speaker 1 (27:10):
That text line. My integrity is not for sale. If
you want to direct.
Speaker 5 (27:14):
Everyone has everyone has a price. Don't give me that
integrity stuff. Everyone has a price, everyone, Ryan, Yes, do
you can squint your eyes all you want to. You
have a price.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Integrity is It's important.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
It's pricing, is huh.
Speaker 1 (27:28):
Listen for all the children listening to the show right
now in their car slash, you know, thinking about growing
up to be astronauts or doctors or lawyers or anything.
Speaker 2 (27:36):
Integrity is very very important. Don't listen to what Nix sent.
Speaker 5 (27:39):
Integrity is important, right, but sometimes you push to the
edge when someone goes, I got about five million dollars.
Are you ready to do this? Change your mind, change
your life?
Speaker 6 (27:51):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Does that lineman have incentives for parenting sacks?
Speaker 3 (27:55):
Probably?
Speaker 2 (27:56):
Probably, I would imagine.
Speaker 1 (27:59):
And you know, the incentive of not getting Joe Burrow
hurt on the final become a meaningless season.
Speaker 5 (28:05):
And I'm gonna put him down gently, right, I'm gonna
bring a pill.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
I'm gonna put him down sleeping night night.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
Have you seen Miles Garrett?
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Is there anything about that monster of a human that.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Does anything gently?
Speaker 5 (28:22):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (28:23):
On the football field.
Speaker 5 (28:24):
Yes, he's very graceful. For a guy who says very
graceful turns the corner, gets his hips.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Even these records are just meaningless if you can just say,
bribe your way to a record. But yeah, well, and
and the reason this even came up, and then we'll
move back to the Broncos in a second, is because
what Brett Favre did for his buddy Michael Strahand, the
fact that he laid down it allowed Michael Strahand to
have the sack record.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Now it's been matched by TJ.
Speaker 6 (28:50):
Watt.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
TJ Watt matched the record.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
And now that that sits there twenty two and a half,
Miles Garrett's at twenty two, How remarkable would be if he.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
Only gets a half sack? Oh my gosh, talk about
a letdown. I'd be very cool.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
And he's gonna win Defensive Player of the Year, like
he's he's a runaway for Defensive Player of the year.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
What time wait, what time is that game? It's the
morning it's the morning game.
Speaker 2 (29:13):
Yeah, Browns Bengals.
Speaker 5 (29:15):
There there's nothing that can be gained by either eye
the team in that game, but so many people are
going to watch that game just for that the sole
purpose of it, right, because it's NFL history. We want
to see it. That would suck that he ends say
that would actually suck. What happens if both he and
(29:36):
someone else's sake. Shelby Harris, Oh my gosh, I.
Speaker 6 (29:40):
Was stiff arm Shelby.
Speaker 1 (29:42):
I didn't want There was a couple times he got
close right in that game, yes, and you got to
get his hand on Aaron Rodgers, And I did wonder
for the other defensive lineman if there was a moment
where they take a step back just to make sure
to clear the deck. You know, like you would never
listen to the game, You would never ever ever do that,
because then you the quarterback to escape, to relate, you.
Speaker 6 (30:02):
Must rush your favorite thing.
Speaker 1 (30:04):
It's not my favorite thing, it's just what they've been doing.
You just live in denial about that for some reason.
Speaker 6 (30:10):
Samada Tomato, No, it's not.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
It's not tomato tomorrow. They're literally telling you pass.
Speaker 1 (30:16):
Joseph Sean Payton have quite literally told you this entire
time what they're.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
Doing to a Mada Tomato butterfly effect.
Speaker 6 (30:24):
Yes. But here's the thing though, But if if you
are Miles.
Speaker 5 (30:30):
Gallery, even if you don't incentivize metamorphosis the other teams
off his tackle, what if you incentivize the guys on
your team, whatever you do bust your tail the force
in my.
Speaker 6 (30:40):
Way, and if you get close, don't touch him.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
Don't touch Let me test.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
Him by myself because if you touch him, now that
half sack, that's right. Could you imagine I would be passed?
It shall be spider monkey shaking, bake mountain. Do absolutely well.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
If you're my first, your last, I'll say this, And
we're gonna have Shelby on tomorrow at this time, as
I'm gonna ask him him, I said, ask him about
the bribing the tackle.
Speaker 6 (31:10):
No, No, not that what.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
I'm talking about. Hey, have you guys considered bribing the
offensive line?
Speaker 6 (31:15):
Know what I'm saying.
Speaker 5 (31:17):
What I'm saying is if Miles incentivized you not to
test the court to get to the depth of the quart.
Speaker 6 (31:23):
Aback I get there.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
I don't think it'scentivized.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
I've talked to Shelby throughout the entire season, and every
time I've brought up this race to the sack record
for Miles Garrett, He's always been very consistent with we're
all playing for him, like this is one of those
you see for the love of the game, Kevin Costner really.
Speaker 2 (31:44):
Good baseball movie.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
So that that's the example, right, we're hey, We're gonna
be great for you. They understand what's at stake. So
I don't think that really goes what I said, but
I'm gonna ask him more of like if it gets close, which,
by the way, Shelby had an awesome like block of
the line that was that was pretty awesome.
Speaker 5 (32:01):
It is named bare hug though by the Pittsburgh getting
they didn't.
Speaker 1 (32:06):
There's another word I want to use there, but there was.
He was getting harassed and like, who held this? Like
you remember the movie Ghost. Yes, Patrick Swayze had less
of a hold loved to me more than that offensive
lineman had Shelby Harris, and he still impacted the play.
Speaker 5 (32:24):
The lineman was saying that he was just trying to
hold him up so he didn't fall on the ground.
Speaker 6 (32:28):
That's what he was trying to do, hold him up.
Speaker 2 (32:31):
He was being like dirty dancing.
Speaker 6 (32:33):
Yes, he was to have the time of my life.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
Bray heard that again, put me. I will ask Shelby tomorrow.
I will ask Shelby tomorrow if if there's an understanding
that if he gets close.
Speaker 5 (32:50):
Don't touch it, don't That would be really foul if
one of the guys because once again that's that, that's
a moment.
Speaker 6 (32:58):
In history that you want to be a part.
Speaker 5 (33:00):
And then you jump into the frame and the quarterbacks
falling down and you happen to trip and fall on
top of them.
Speaker 6 (33:05):
Now it's a half sack, somebody.
Speaker 1 (33:07):
Says, as a matter if it's twenty two and a
half sacks for sixteen games.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
No, not anymore. They've we've kind of moved on.
Speaker 1 (33:12):
Some people will put asterisks and they they'll have that,
but no, the NFL accepts this as the sad Yeah,
they don't.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
I understand your point, and we've.
Speaker 1 (33:21):
Had that, but we've moved past that with quarterback stats, right,
quarterbacks that passed for four thousand and five thousand yards
and make.
Speaker 5 (33:28):
Things interesting though when you look at where quarterbacks were
when there was like fourteen games and then they kind
of had a MOUs on at fourteen.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
Now you've got to move to sixteen. You got two
extra games, oh for sure.
Speaker 1 (33:39):
Well, then last year with Takuon Barkley, right, they decided
to play the final game. But if you would have
played that and you would have set the record, we
would all accepted it.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Tak One Barkley got the record, right, So that isn't
the thing.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Your character is what you take with you after the
after to the grave, not money, Nick your character, bed Hey, could.
Speaker 2 (34:00):
You live with yourself?
Speaker 6 (34:01):
I could buy a whole lot.
Speaker 5 (34:02):
Of character if you If you, I just told you,
I could buy a whole lot of character. And then
guess what that money that I can't take with me,
guess what I can give it to my descendants the sex.
Speaker 1 (34:13):
He says, TJ. W. Wash should actually pay Zach Taylor
to not just go to the source, put together this game.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Plan just one play.
Speaker 1 (34:24):
All run, just run of Ballah, Zach Taylor's getting fired
either way, maybe he could. You know, I don't know, Hey,
real quick, do you want Zach Taylor back? Cincinnati Bengal fan,
Yes you do, yes? Yeah, like Zach Taylor. I think
he's safe really m hm okay. I think they will
go out and explore some options. Maybe, but I think
(34:46):
he's back next year.
Speaker 7 (34:47):
I know Joe Burrow likes him, and if you keep
Joe Burrow happy.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
Well, because Joe Burrow has already said that he wasn't
really having a lot of fun, but he lives.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
And has a lot more fun. In the last couple
of weeks, he's he's looked like he's having a little
more fun.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
I guess there's no scenario right where Joe Burrow leans
on ownership and says, we need to change the problem
that I have with the Bengals. And I completely agree
with you on that sentiment there, grant is that how
many times can you sort of hammer your head against
the wall and expect different results? Right in this case,
the Bengals have been doing this now for several years,
(35:25):
where we're going to build the offense up, we're gonna
more or less ignore the defense, and we're gonna hope
that this is gonna work out. Well, it all works
out until it obviously doesn't when your quarterback gets hurt
or the defense is so bad that you have to
score forty points per game just to stay in some
of these games. But again, they spent all on the
offensive side of the ball in part because.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Of the identity of the team.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
And it is fun to watch, certainly fun for fantasy teams,
but it's not a winning formula.
Speaker 5 (35:51):
But see, my fear for quarterbacks like Joe Burrow is
that he is with an ownership and the culture that
is not built for winning. It's just let's just sustain
and survive just to make money.
Speaker 6 (36:05):
So if he wants.
Speaker 5 (36:06):
To kind of see his career soar to the heights
of maybe a guy like Josh Allen, he may have
to force himself out because if he doesn't, he's gonna
be known like a guy like Dan Fouts, a guy
who's really talented but never really made it to where
he needed to.
Speaker 6 (36:22):
And granted he made it to the super Bowl, but
just didn't get it done.
Speaker 1 (36:26):
All right, Well we come back, Shannon Fair and silent
report for the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (36:30):
Gonna join us. Justin Herbert is not playing in this game.
Speaker 1 (36:33):
Who could be some other players that maybe won't play
against the Broncos.
Speaker 2 (36:36):
We'll get that next
