Speaker 2 (00:12):
Ian.
Speaker 1 (00:13):
Good afternoon, Happy New Year, Young with Dave Logan, Ryan Harrison,
Ran Edwards.
Speaker 3 (00:17):
How are you?
Speaker 4 (00:18):
What's up, guys? Happen to you? To you as well?
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yeah, good to have you.
Speaker 5 (00:21):
Ian.
Speaker 6 (00:21):
We've obviously spent the first hour or so just talking
about the Broncos Bengals game on Saturday night. An exciting
game for sure. I know you've seen at the very
least the highlights of the game, if not more, to
go for two or not goph for two. When we
look in at hindsight, Sean Payton seems like a guy
(00:46):
that would roll the dice, maybe more frequently than others.
Maybe not as much as Dan Campbell, but more frequently
than others. So I guess the question is, did it
surprise you at that moment that he decided to kick
and take that game into overtime?
Speaker 4 (01:01):
You know, first of all, I was, I was intensely
dialed in the game was awesome. I loved every minute
of it. You know, I would say I wasn't surprised
that he didn't go for it. I was a little
surprised that he seemed to change his mind, like it
seemed like and you guys were there too, so maybe
it was different. But I like to me, at least
(01:23):
watching in TV, that the offense was staying out there
and then it wasn't yep that the right it.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Was yep, that's exactly right, exactly right.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
So here's my thing, Like, I don't know that it
was a wrong decision or right to. I mean, obviously,
you know, if they get to two pointer, it's the
right decision. If they don't get it, that it's the
wrong decision. But I think we've seen a lot of
these high profile decisions this year, and me personally, as
someone who watches this and studies it, if it were me,
(01:52):
I would want to go for two in that situation.
The problem is that's the time you miss. And so
what I think, maybe either from anecdotal evidence of watching
other teams or maybe it's just sort of being rethought
around the league. I think you're going to see more
people saying, you know what, I'm just going to take
the tie because I guarantee that I'm going to play more,
(02:13):
and it's a little bit safer like like you know, analytically,
like analytics wise. I guess whatever, however you would say it,
it's a very very very small percent better. I think
going for two just a very very very small percent.
But I don't know that it matters. It's probably more
(02:33):
like a coin flip. So either way, it's not a
bad decision. It's just it looks worse if you go
for to a miss than if you just kick.
Speaker 5 (02:42):
Well, and let's talk about the reason why you would
have went for it on too. For that two point conversion.
Bo Nicks put the league on notice with the ball
that went sixty eight yards in the air for the
first touchdown to Marvin Mims. What did you take from
bow Nix's performance.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
Yeah, I actually think that the game tiny touchdown was
more impressive. I mean, you know, the throw was it
was funny because I'm watching it and I see him
rear back and I'm kind of thinking in my head
like this is almost like a hail Mary, except it wasn't.
It was in stride. Jenner cut of the end was
that was that was a beautiful throw. And it's interesting
(03:19):
with bo Nicks because if you followed the draft narrative
for him, the fall was he was sort of like
Dnking and gunking, Like how much potential did he actually
have had he hit his ceiling? Can he make a
lot of the big throws? That was the furthest throw
anyone has made all season, you know, I mean that
was that was sort of that was interesting to me
just as far as draft and narrative wise. But yeah,
(03:42):
I mean everyone talks so much about how dangerous the
Bengals are, and I agree, if the Bengals get in,
they're for sure dangerous. Buncle's at interest too. I mean,
if if bo Nicks is going to be out there
with the game on the line making these plays, you know,
and I'm not sure he has sort of the cerebral
nature of Jaden Daniels or Pennix, but in crunch time,
(04:06):
you know, the results have proven to be pretty good.
You know, like as he made a mistake, yes, like
when he gets his hand hit. Sometimes you get those
interceptions as we saw, but like those are clutch, huge
plays with everything on the line, like definitely, and you know,
reputations can be made on these Daniel and nationally televised games. Like,
I think a lot of people took notice.
Speaker 7 (04:27):
Of that Ian coming up this week.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
The Broncos host to the Chiefs, Peter Schrager said that
he's hearing that the Chiefs will not be playing many
of the starters, including Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
What are you hearing, Yeah, I mean that's that's exactly right.
Mahomes is not going to play, Chris Shians won't play,
a lot of their stars won't play, which you know
for the Broncos is good, it's definitely good, but you
don't arrest so many guys, right, Like, obviously not having
Mahomes is significant, that's the most significant thing that could
probably happen in the NFL. But the guy who's filling
(05:01):
in for him was also was actually trusted higher, believe
it or not, He's actually drafted higher. And the last
time Carson Wentz played, last two times, he's played well.
So like, yes, it's easier for the Broncos than having
to face Mahomes, But I wouldn't say it's easy.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Now.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
You know a lot of things. If nothing happened, they
would go in. If the Bengals and Dolphins lose they
would go in, So there's a lot that's in their
favor and they're playing backups, but you still have to
go out and do it. So like it's going to
be a challenge either way. And you know the other
thing is when you have people who haven't played a
(05:36):
lot and are really sort of fighting for jobs or
reputations or next year's contracts or whatever, like, there's effort
that they put out that's going to be significant.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
So you know, it's.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
Easier maybe than it would have been for the Broncos,
but I wouldn't say it's easy.
Speaker 6 (05:50):
We're talking with Ian Rapaport, our NFL insider, Nfilm That Worked.
I want to ask you staying in the AFC when
the Chiefs already have cleanched home home field advantage, they
get to buy Buffalo is going to be the second seed,
Baltimore is going to be the third season, so the
chalk the Chalk would be those Baltimore.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
Yet we don't know Baltimore yet.
Speaker 6 (06:10):
Well, yeah, they do play my former team, but I
just don't know that the Browns are gonna muster up enough.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yeah, I guess you are. You're absolutely right. Let's talk
about the three favorites. In the a f C currently,
do you do you?
Speaker 6 (06:29):
I mean, there's been a narrative and I understand it
during the season that Kansas City wasn't playing great and
they were finding ways to win, they got lucky and
all all this stuff. To me, they seem like they're
playing a little better now. But but look at those
two other favorites.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
In the a f C.
Speaker 6 (06:45):
What are your thoughts with the Bills and the Ravens
in terms of finding a way to get out of
the a f C into the Super Bowl.
Speaker 4 (06:53):
I mean, to me, like this is as good as
Ravens team as we've seen. You know, the Bills team,
I think is is has been great and as a team,
like as players who play together, they are really really,
really good. Is it as talented we've seen the Bills? Like?
Maybe not, probably not, but they've played really well as
team together and Josh Allen's playing VB caliber and ness
(07:16):
really helps talent wise. I think this is as good
a Ravens team as we've seen. So like last year,
I thought they had a really good chance to get
to the super Bowl. This year, I think they have
a better chance. Now you're still going to go have
to do it and you're still gonna have to face
at some point, probably maybe the Chiefs to make it happens.
That's hard, But like this is as high I would
(07:38):
do the same thing for the NFC, Like this is
a high power in the playoff bracket, and I could
remember since we've been doing this. On the other side,
there's also some plenty of teams that are really bad,
so like the battle for number one is on as well.
But I mean, you know these are these are really
really really good teams.
Speaker 5 (07:58):
Well, we talked about in the past ian So this
week we saw pirouette from the Minnesota Vikings as they
danced the high school musical dance for a touchdown.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
So my question to you is what dance do you
want to see next?
Speaker 5 (08:13):
Like if you could speak to the touchdown scoring team
and say, I want this dance from this movie?
Speaker 2 (08:19):
What is it? Square dance?
Speaker 4 (08:22):
I don't know that. Well, yeah, I mean that would
be good. I don't know that it's from a movie.
There's some fun like sort of hip hop dances that
that I would appreciate.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
I mean, little Missy Elliott in circa nineteen nineties.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
There's the dance from the video music video for Candy Rain.
Speaker 2 (08:40):
Is always oh, idiot, look at that.
Speaker 4 (08:44):
That's just you know, that's just a fun video. I mean,
you know, that would be sort of the next level.
But they do a great job of finding really weird
movies and emulating the dance. Cambinen is a is a
really good player. He might be a better choreographer. And
I don't know what's gonna happen with the Vikings. I
don't know if they're gonna win, you know, Sunday night.
I don't if they're can have some sort of terrible injury.
(09:06):
They seem like they got something going. The culture is
really good, and like you know, we have a lot
of discussions of like you know, get the right quarterback
and find the right offensive play caller for head coach
and all these different things and scheme and all these
different things. Culture matters so much, and we see it
with both the Lions and the Vikings, and these are
(09:27):
teams that are are rolling and there's a lot of
good things going on.
Speaker 7 (09:32):
Ian always appreciate the time.
Speaker 1 (09:33):
Man.
Speaker 7 (09:33):
We will check in with you next.
Speaker 1 (09:34):
Week, hopefully talking about the Broncos on the way of
the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (09:39):
That will be fun and for you guys, I definitely
look forward to that all.
Speaker 7 (09:42):
I appreciate it. Ian Rappaport our NFL network.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Inside it, I will react to the things, Ian Rapaport
said a moment ago. But first we're gonna head out
to the high line and bring on doctor Dave Schneider from
Ortho Colorado, brought to you by Ortho Colorado, Colorose Premiere
or Hospitible part of Common Spirit Health. Check them out
right now at Ortho Colorado dot org. Doctor Scheider. Always
(10:06):
great to catch.
Speaker 2 (10:07):
Up with you. How are you. I'm doing great.
Speaker 3 (10:09):
Happy New Year to you, fellas.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
Yeah, Happy New Year to you too. Doc.
Speaker 6 (10:14):
You know, you look at you look at the Broncos
in this last regular season game, and you, being an
orthopedic doctor, an orthopedic surgeon, you look at guys that
are banged up, and everybody sort of fits fits into that,
into that particular box nowadays. But unfortunately, you know, it's
(10:34):
not like college where you've got, you know, a second
team basically that if you have something clinched, you can
put all your second and third team guys in.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
There're gonna be a lot of starters with teams that
have clinched a particular position.
Speaker 6 (10:48):
They're gonna have to wind up playing the majority of
this last regular season game, right, And the other.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
Thing, it's it's funny how it also stacks up. You know,
there are nine teams then FLA this year have played
three games in a ten day span. Yeah, and I
still recall it ever being that much. And I don't
know if you fellows have talked about it today, but
you know, going into this last week, the fact with
Christmas games on Wednesday, both for you and Ryan to
(11:17):
think about, was there ever a time in your careers
where you played ten games? There are three games in
ten days?
Speaker 2 (11:23):
Never?
Speaker 6 (11:24):
Yeah, I didn't either, couldn't. I played Sunday and then
on Thanksgiving Day?
Speaker 2 (11:28):
Yeah, Sunday, Sunday, Thursday is enough.
Speaker 3 (11:32):
That's hard enough. And forget about the prep, you know,
I look at it like an earth Peak surgeon looks
at it, where you have the big game on Sunday
and then everyone's trying to take care of their bodies
on Monday. So many players now hire their personal health
coaches and have other supplements or infrared or ice or
things that they're doing.
Speaker 2 (11:50):
But to think about that, like, well we robbed.
Speaker 3 (11:53):
That the team of that day are trying to get
in our game plans while they're trying to have the
medical state evaluating and treating and rehabbing and try and
get ready for a Thursday, and for some of those
teams to turn around and play on the following Wednesday.
From an orthopedic surgeon standpoint, seems bananas to me.
Speaker 5 (12:12):
Well, and do you talk about take care of your body?
And for me that meant was getting them sage, getting
the assault of getting a hot sub cold tub. What
is taking care of your body mean to the to
the people listening right now that maybe they can do
at home themselves when they're taking care of themselves getting
ready for a holiday or some other athletic activity.
Speaker 3 (12:31):
Well, I know some of us hit the training table
way too hard over Christmas.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
Talking about me told you that in confidence.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
Yeah, and we know tomorrow night there might be a
little blow up as well. But you know, I think
the biggest thing is hydrating properly and just understanding that,
you know, hydration is everyone's best friend, particularly when you're
maybe taking a little more alcohol than usual. But I
think as well getting up and being active and moving,
(13:02):
and I think it's surprising around town that there are
more ways of then kind of taking to the next level.
There's those IV services to make sure your electrolytes are balanced,
and all the theories. I think it's a little tientifically
unproven now of like what's the benefit to those cool
the ice bat treatment or the people that are really
(13:25):
going hyper cold. I don't know about the utility of
all that, but I think it's interesting to contemplate.
Speaker 1 (13:31):
Doctor scheiderl last one we have for you, just wanted
to I guess ask you about Riley Moss and what
you saw from him. Is that rust is than being
off the field or is that anything to do with
his knee based on his performance on Saturday night.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
My perspective on that, looking at him, I think that's
some of that. MCL is just such a sensitive ligament injurer,
and I think him moving around the field where cutting
and twisting and exploding and trying to be quick to
get back on the ball, I think that's all just
it's going to take another week or two for him
to not look rusty.
Speaker 7 (14:06):
Appreciate doctor Snyder, Happy New Year, my friend.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
We will check out with you soon, all right, Thank you,
thank you doctor Snyder from Ortho, Colorado.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
A lot of their stars won't play, which you know
for the Broncos is good, but if you don't arrest
so many guys, right, Like obviously not having Mahomes his
significant that's the most significant thing that could probably happen
in the NFL. But the guy who's filling in for
him was also was actually trusted higher, believe it or not,
the last time Carson Wentz played, last two times he's
played well. So like, yes, it's easier for the Broncos
(14:42):
than having to face Mahomes, But I wouldn't say it's easy.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
That was even Rapaport moments ago. We'll get that interview
at a KA Colorado dot com And yeah, I mean, David,
it seems like that's that's the trends here. You Peter
Schrager saying it's yesterday on Fox. You've had Adam schefferd
this morning on Pad Knackafee saying the exact same thing.
Speaker 7 (15:02):
So it's sort of lining up. But I agree with him,
and I know that you do as well. It's it's
far from a guaranteed thing if you're playing backups.
Speaker 6 (15:09):
Yeah, again, you've you've only got forty seven guys to
choose from ye. Right, So you're you're gonna have you're
gonna have some of your key guys. From a sort
of managing the process standpoint, this is always kind of
an interesting thing for me. So it's it's pretty simple
with Mahomes, all right, we're not playing the best player.
Speaker 7 (15:30):
In the world.
Speaker 2 (15:31):
But anybody else, what do you what like?
Speaker 6 (15:35):
What exactly are you saying if you don't play Kelsey,
you don't play Chris Joe, Chris Jones. You can say, well,
he's been nicked up, Sure, we're not playing. You're gonna play.
You're gonna play the Which one of your starting linebackers
are you not playing?
Speaker 2 (15:54):
And what do you say?
Speaker 6 (15:56):
What does that move say if you decide I'm we're
not gonna play Nick Bolton, okay, what does that say
to the other two? What does that say to Drew Tranquill,
who's also had a very good So they're gonna have
some starters.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
As matter of fact, there'll be they'll be more than.
Speaker 6 (16:15):
Let's see, there'll be more than two handfuls of starters
that will play the.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Majority of the game. What do you say about Carl.
Speaker 6 (16:24):
Offtics, who's one of the best edge guys that we
have in the game.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
You're not playing Chris Jones. Everybody knows all right, he's
banged up. He's a stud.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
I I get that, But you know, linebackers, you know
the back end of it. You know, are you I
mean you're gonna play maybe? Okay, he's he's the best
corner they have you playing. They're talking about not bringing
back next year. I just think it's an interesting sort
(16:53):
of you know, uh experience.
Speaker 2 (16:57):
For the coaches. Well, I'll tell you from playing for
Andy Reid, he's not taking this game off.
Speaker 5 (17:03):
He's looking at this as, Okay, I don't have Mahomes.
Are my players working without the thing that I can't
you know, the X factor?
Speaker 4 (17:10):
Right.
Speaker 5 (17:10):
Sometimes he'll have a play and Mahomes does it perfectly well.
Other times he has a play, Mahomes does something to
different and now it's a twenty yard game at Travis Kelsey, right.
So for him, he's saying, I want to be sure
that I'm good as a coach, that I'm seeing things
the right way and not depending too much of my quarterback.
Let me tell you something else. You don't get worse
being on a championship team. Carson Wentz, by the way,
won a Super Bowl. I know he was on the bench,
but hey, say what you want. He got him there.
(17:32):
He was an MVP, he candidate that season, right, And
if you don't think Carson Wentz is coming out to
tell a new story about his career, you're not paying attention.
If you think that this game against the Chiefs will
be easy because they don't have Patrick Mahomes, you're.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
Not paying attention. That's where the Bronco players and coaches
can help. But they've got to make sure they get
locked in on not thinking exactly what Ryan said.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Can't do it.
Speaker 7 (17:55):
There's one interesting thing.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
That Peter Schruger said, though, and because you know, hey,
Carson Wentz is going to start, he's the backup, he
kind of added that they might call up their thirst
string quarterback, who's a rookie.
Speaker 7 (18:08):
I'll play the sound here.
Speaker 8 (18:09):
You're not going to be shouting Patrick Mahomes's name next week.
But the Bengals yesterday got a huge win and they
are still alive. But what they need to make the
playoffs is a Broncos win Broncos loss against the Chiefs
next week.
Speaker 7 (18:20):
They need the Chiefs to win.
Speaker 4 (18:21):
So these Bengals fans.
Speaker 8 (18:22):
Who have hated the Chiefs since the last few years,
the Borough, Mahomes, Robert, they need to be Chiefs fans. However,
I'm told Mahome's not going to play next week. Carson
Wentz is going to start. And I'll go one step further.
They might elevate practice squad quarterback Chris Ola Dokan to
come in and he might get snaps in this game.
So if you're a Bengals fan at home, yes, yes
you are rooting for the Chiefs, but you're not going
(18:44):
to get the Chiefs that have given you guys fits
of the last few season. It's going to be a
different version, mostly backups.
Speaker 2 (18:50):
We'll see how it goes.
Speaker 8 (18:51):
But Carson Wentz has played some good football in his career.
Who knows crazier things.
Speaker 1 (18:55):
Have happened by way Chris Old Chris Oldokan is a
twenty two, twenty two round, seventh round pick, so not
a rookie this year. But I mean that that's kind
of the point here that for me, there's a mindset
with that if you're thinking about maybe giving him second
half snaps once again, you know Patrick Mahomes, he was
the guy that did that versus the Broncos before when
(19:16):
his career started. His rookie year, he didn't play TOI
that final game, when the Chiefs had their spot locked up,
they decided to put him in.
Speaker 7 (19:23):
He ended up dominating in that game.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
I know you remember very well, and that moment we're like,
all right, well you yout's see what Patrick Mahomes is
all about.
Speaker 7 (19:30):
And now we're here.
Speaker 6 (19:31):
I left that game, Patrick mahomes first start in the NFL,
and I called a friend driving home who's a football guy,
and I said, you know what, this could be a
tough road because this guy, I said, the ball just
comes out of that guy's hands differently. It just you
(19:52):
you can almost hear it sizzle when he let it go.
And that was his that was his first game. But
but you gotta have a you gotta have a backup
quarterback in case it happens to wins. Right, So Chris
Ola Dokin from the famous old Dokin Klein is, where
do you go to school?
Speaker 7 (20:08):
South Dakota State?
Speaker 2 (20:09):
That's of course he did. So that's a good program.
Let's hope that.
Speaker 4 (20:13):
I need to know.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
They had a program. Oh yeah, they won the national championship.
Now though the last two years Okay, so the last two.
Speaker 6 (20:20):
Years now, North Coast State just knocked him out of
the playoffs the last weekend the South dakost State has
been the last They've been back to back, the jack Rabbits,
every Man Jackabs. So I'm gonna I'm gonna have to
learn about Chris Oladokin. Well, let me ask you this though, too.
If if you're the Chiefs, and I'm not saying this
is true, but I'm just saying it's interesting to think about.
(20:40):
If you're the Chiefs, you're saying, Okay, we can have
a hand in who we see in the playoffs. Would
we rather see Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase?
Speaker 5 (20:48):
Would we rather see a rookie quarterback in his first
playoffs on the road if it were to ever get
to that point, I'm not ever one to advocate for losing,
but if it means you don't have to see Jamar Chase,
I am stand you know I'm saying I understand, well because.
Speaker 7 (21:02):
That's exactly what happened.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Right.
Speaker 1 (21:04):
If for some reason the seventh seed gets through the
number two seed, then yeah, the Kansas City would be
seeing that team next.
Speaker 7 (21:11):
And so you're right, they do have a little bit
of a say here, do they.
Speaker 1 (21:14):
Want to see maybe see the Dolphins, because the Dolphins,
of course, because they'd actually be the ones that are
next up.
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Dolphins ain't getting through in Buffalo, Denver. Denver has a
much better chance, so do to Cincinnati. Yeah, yes, of
beating the Bills in Buffalo than Miami.
Speaker 7 (21:30):
Yeah, in Miami.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
It still doesn't even look like Tua is a sure
thing coming up the play yesterday?
Speaker 7 (21:35):
Right, he did not play.
Speaker 2 (21:36):
And that's the team you talk about, get us backup quarterback?
How do how do they not have a backup corp?
Speaker 5 (21:40):
He hasn't been healthy a single season of his career
and they go to a backup Tyler? Would you rather
have Snoop or would you have Chris Oladokin?
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Well, I think I want winners. I want winners. Dave
won't do it?
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Well, I mean for in Tyler Holly, No, I was.
Speaker 2 (22:07):
That's a hell.
Speaker 7 (22:10):
Do you know what I'm thinking about it? I was
watching that gig because I had some fantasy implications, and it.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
Exactly what you were thinking. Why exactly am I watching this?
Speaker 4 (22:18):
Well?
Speaker 1 (22:18):
I knew I was watching because I had the Dolphins
defense versus the Browns. So that's like we need Yeah,
and I needed some some good fantasy points there. But
but more than anything, I was thinking, like, the Broncos
haven't seen a d TR like they even when they
saw Jamis. Jamis was actually performing at a better level
than Deshaun Watson was in that offense.
Speaker 7 (22:37):
The Broncos have and I know they've played a lot of.
Speaker 1 (22:39):
Bad teams, but they don't. They haven't felt like they've
caught as many breaks like the Dolphins facing the Giant
or sorry, the Dolphins facing the Browns when it's DTR
and that offense can't do anything. It was a pretty
massive break for Miami who had to start Snoop Hundley.
Speaker 7 (22:53):
It's a massive break. The Broncos haven't done that.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
Meanwhile, Danianapolis Colts yesterday versus the New York Giants, when
you're thinking, hey, you've got everything to play for and
the Giants at that point want the number one overall pick,
you'd think.
Speaker 7 (23:07):
They put forty five points. Drew Locke was a five touchdowns.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
Dave Hee had over three hundred yards passing. I think
it was that the first time he's been over three
hundred yards in his career. I don't know that he
went over. I don't know that he went over three
hundred yards in a single game here in Denver. I
don't think he did.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
I don't believe it. Number nine.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
I mean, I imagine it was the most touchdowns he's
ever had. Five touchdowns in the cheese.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
They were actually, this is New York. New York fans
were mad at him. So yes yesterday they were.
Speaker 7 (23:37):
Like, you ruined the first round.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
Pick for us.
Speaker 7 (23:39):
What they weren't bud at him? I was at reaction.
He's a villain now in New York.
Speaker 5 (23:45):
Yeah, But to your point about the Broncos haven't gotten
any breaks, you have to earn those in the game
of football, and that's the problem.
Speaker 1 (23:52):
You have to.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
I know some people think like, oh, the ball bounces
your way. You know, you think about all the great
plays that happened. You know, whether it's Broncos or another
their favorite team of yours.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
You got to earn those moments.
Speaker 5 (24:03):
You know, Brandley Roby doesn't pick up the fumble against
the Steelers when de Marcus ware creates it if he's.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Not closing on the football, Like, you have to be
active to be lucky in football.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
He went over three hundred yards twice once against Houston,
remember that game yet four touchdown passes. Three touchdown passes
in that game, three touchdowns, one interception. He went to
three o nine And then in twenty twenty, the final
game of the Chargers the Raiders the Charger Raiders, he
(24:35):
did two sixty four. Okay, but the Raiders game, final
game of the season three hundred and thirty nine passing
yards and those are the only other only two games
he went over three hundred.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Otherwise.
Speaker 5 (24:44):
I still think his best clip is him rapping to
Gez on the sideline.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
So awesome. I didn't know my brothers could do that
like that. You know what, they can't. Let me just
tell you, Hey, I don't speak for all of us,
but he can't.
Speaker 7 (25:02):
But see you remember that.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Finally you know who can Baker. I'm sorry, Baker Mayfield.
Baker can do it. Baker's got a little swag to him. Drew, No, no, no, no.
Speaker 7 (25:13):
It's funny that you bring that up because of the
time we all fell in Levely. Hey, man on the sideline,
he's so comfortable, he's rapid.
Speaker 6 (25:22):
What are you talking about? But then now you fast
like take this the right away. As a friend to
a friend, get that hell up out of here.
Speaker 7 (25:28):
You didn't think that was cool?
Speaker 2 (25:30):
No, I thought it was awesome.
Speaker 5 (25:32):
Yeah, I thought I had seen him been done before, David.
I didn't know it was possible. Well, you ain't seen
it done. I mean seriously, you know when Baker go
back and check out Baker Mayfield, now there, I mean,
he's got some moves. He Baker Mayfield has has what
I call true like flavor.
Speaker 2 (25:49):
He's got flavor. There's others that look like us that
that God bless him. They just don't. It's all right,
they just don't. There's a square dance every in every time.
Why I brought up square dance?
Speaker 7 (26:03):
You did square dancing? Yeah, and and then he and man,
he would.
Speaker 6 (26:07):
He glossed right over it. You know, he's probably thinking,
what the hell's the square dance? The hell's that's probably
in this forty taught.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
They taught us that in high school. They still teach
the square dance. In high school. They taught you the
square dance. Did you go to school in Minnesota, Saint Paul, Minnesota?
Of course? Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (26:22):
We had to make up things to do in the winter, man,
like Colorado ice fishing, Oh yeah, Latin for drinking beer.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
But yeah, it's uh, it's amazing. You know, it's funny too.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
You go ice fishing, the beer shacks, they keep all
the booze on the outside of the shack. It's just
one guy with a space heater sitting in there waiting
to take your money. He's like, all right, grab your pack,
go on. It's unbelievable. It's like getting the propane or
something that.
Speaker 7 (26:43):
That explains why you're super ice fish.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
I never I haven't either. No ever. Even if you
go ice fishing, you won't drop that pole. I'm telling you.
It's just it's it's it's an excuse to get out
the house.
Speaker 7 (26:55):
Are you still a Minnesota Wild fan?
Speaker 6 (26:56):
No?
Speaker 2 (26:57):
I made the switch, thank you.
Speaker 5 (26:58):
I made a deal with the I don't avalanche before
the year before they won the Stanley Cup, I said,
if you get me nozom codre sweater, okay, the magic Muslim,
you give me a sweater, I'm switching.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Yeah, did it.
Speaker 5 (27:09):
And I was at the game they lost at home,
was at Game five and Stanley Cup. But man, my
kids became AVS fans and we're an AVS household.
Speaker 1 (27:18):
Nice finally good, very quickly back to that Colts Giants
game for the Colts is another year of a disastrous ending.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
I'll tell you what I saw the highlights of that game.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
Of the three or four or five seven highlights, I saw,
five of them were in the Colts defense. I saw
guys just flat, like stopping, just not not running. I'm thinking,
with this kind of effort right here, that's how you lose.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
To a team like that.
Speaker 5 (27:53):
I mean, it was it was awful. You might lose
a coach it was so bad. I mean that was maybe,
I don't know, add bad effort. And anytime someone even
if you slowed down on film and a championship on
a championship team, if you sloped down right, I mean
I could hear Gary Cooley get called out, Oh right away,
what are you doing? Gary cool If you set up
(28:14):
because you saw the ball in the air, you might
get batched with Gary.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
Kobiak because how were you not running that fast to
begin with? So there's a there are levels. So the
Pillers were literally bad.
Speaker 7 (28:24):
It was really bad to add everything to play for.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
And of course, as we mentioned the Giants, we're hoping
to have the number one overall pick and get a quarterback.
Speaker 7 (28:30):
And now that I think they're picking fourth or something
like that.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
They both trying to keep his job.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Hey, I mean was their first home win. Like week seventeen,
it was the first home win the season for the Giants.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Hey, listen to the Bengals beating the Broncos.
Speaker 4 (28:43):
That was their third. Wow.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
The Bengals were the point, we're two and whatever six
or two and five, and.
Speaker 1 (28:53):
There was their first win against the team with over
five hundred record yep, which is also remarkable.
Speaker 2 (28:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
I came away from that game and I watched again today,
and I know that there's frustrations because it was so
close that you brought that up in the first hour.
Speaker 7 (29:05):
There is so many little things.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Just one decision, one play, one or two plays would
have completely tilted the entire thing. But I came await
for that game, I don't know, more encourage than anything.
I felt like this is a team in a primetime moment.
They're taking the best shots that the Bengals could throw
at them, knowing that the Bengals had everything to play for.
The Broncos probably could have approached it that way too,
(29:27):
but they felt like there was that backstop of this
game coming against the Chiefs, but I came wait, especially
in these last two primetime game, Dave, I see a
team that is not afraid of anybody, and I love it.
Speaker 2 (29:39):
You know what happens, I think people and I understand this.
Speaker 6 (29:43):
You tend to forget where everybody's mind was collectively before
the season started. Yeah right, I mean this team was
picked in Las Vegas. The over and under was five
and a half there, and Ryan, you and I talked
about this. I'm not sure where this came from. I
think it was Pro Football Focus that said the Broncos
in terms of talent, had the thirty first best roster. Well,
(30:08):
for people that don't know, there's thirty two teams. So
if you just said, I mean, if you just said, hey,
you know what, they go in to the last week
a home game, they gonna win, They're going to be
in the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Who wouldn't have signed on with that deal.
Speaker 6 (30:23):
The issue was they won some close games and all
of a sudden you look up and they're nine to five,
and everybody and I get it, I probably did the
same thing. Everybody starts getting greedy, like, no, you know what,
forget to getting in We're gonna finish fifth. Yeah, We're
gonna go to Houston win that playoff game, and then
do you start I mean, your mind just starts going crazy.
(30:43):
So I think the Broncos have had a really a
season that everybody can look at and say, Okay, this
franchise is on the right track. And that's the most
important thing. They have found their young quarterback. They feel
like they can build rounds. That's the most important thing.
They're gonna win. I think win on Sunday. And then
(31:03):
you go into the playoffs. You have not a care
in the world. You let everything fly and you're aggressive
as get out. When they go to Buffalo, you can't
skip steps. And whether they go to the playoffs or
not this year, I'm with Dave, but I think they win.
But you have to experience things. You have to experience
a close loss.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
You have to experience losing against a team that you
should have beaten, because then you start realizing the only
difference is your focus, your effort, and in the game.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
You trusting yourself. And they got that.
Speaker 5 (31:33):
And let's talk about think about how many players developed.
I mean, justin Sir Nab looks.
Speaker 3 (31:38):
Like a pro.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
He was I able to get on the field due
to injury and he looks like a pro. You got
Cody Barton, How they found him? I don't know John
Frankly Myers how they got him in that trade? Steele, right,
you got estimate developing. I'm telling you all right now,
Devon Veley is a monster in the making. He doesn't
even know how good he can be. He doesn't even
(32:00):
know he's faster than everybody yet when he realizes that,
I mean, you got Jonah Ellis is the development on
this team? Not only could everybody say it's in the
right direction, but you have pieces that you know you
don't need going into the draft.
Speaker 2 (32:15):
Well was the last time he said that is a
Broncos fan, that's a great point.
Speaker 7 (32:17):
Great point.
Speaker 1 (32:18):
Although I'm a little as bullish on our linebackers after
watching Mike Gasiki catch nine passes, Mike Asiki, don't.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
You sleep on him? He was tearing it up out
of Miami.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
I'm a big Mike Siki fan. It's just one of
those deals like this is the matchup. We saw that
and he saw Chase Brown on the backfield. He said,
this is this is going to be a problem for
the Broncos linebackers, and it was a problem.
Speaker 2 (32:38):
But Mike, YESICKI was so good. You learned his name,
so he was clearly good before this. And how about this?
Speaker 5 (32:43):
We didn't talk about this because we talked about uh,
Chase Brown. I I hated seeing his injury. Yeah, he's
trying to down it on the one. I don't know
if they said it was broken and looked broken on TV.
Now they they're they're there. They think they've got a
chance to get him back this week. Oh my goodness.
And I'm just like, you know what an incredible moment
(33:04):
for him. He's going down, he could score, but he's
so aware he's gonna go down, ends up going down awkwardly.
But sometimes he's got to score. I get a coach,
we got a man as the clock, and you know what,
sometimes it's go score worth scoring and getting hurt.
Speaker 7 (33:19):
What did you think about that? I couldn't believe.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
So he did that, and the very next play, Joe
Burrow quarterback sneaks into the end zone.
Speaker 7 (33:28):
I'm like, why are they Why are they giving the
Broncos anything.
Speaker 6 (33:31):
I thought it was absolutely mismanaged by Zach Taylor. I
thought Chase Brown did the right thing right. You didn't
know you're gonna get hurt trying to do the right thing.
But then, I mean, when when Joe Burrow scored, I'm
thinking I looked at the clock, I said, well they
and the Broncos had a time out.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Out.
Speaker 6 (33:53):
What are you doing here? But you know what that happens.
You know for all the analysts and the people that
the league have decided to employ, and each team has
a guy now and there is I mean the game
last night we talked about. I mean Raheem Morris, who's
done a really good job in Atlanta. Raheem's been an
(34:16):
assistant coach in the NFL, who assistant coach at multiple
stops in college and is highly regarded. I mean, wouldn't
you not fire your analytic guy for mismanaging that lasts?
If they have two timeouts and they've got the ball
at about midfield and on a pass of about eighteen
(34:39):
yards and they don't take one of them and everybody
has to hurry up, you lost fifteen seconds and your
receivers are wiped.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
You know, I just didn't get it.
Speaker 6 (34:50):
I mean, that's if you did that in high school,
fans understandably would say, you don't have a clue what
you're doing.
Speaker 7 (34:59):
Let alone at the pro level primetime game. Yes, yeah,
exactly right. The iHeartRadio App app is now even better.
