Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KSR Pre Show.
Today is Wednesday, July third, Just today before we start
to celebrate this holiday weekend in America's birthday. Give us
call today eight five nine two eight oh two two
eight seven. That's our Clark's Pumping Shop phone line. You
can also text me today at five o two two

(00:20):
six five six six five six if you'd like to
interact with the show.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
No Shannon the Dude this week.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
He got an early start on that holiday break, that
little vacation for him.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
We know he takes plenty of him.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
But joining me today is UK football stattician. He has
risen to fame in the Big Blue Nation. His name
is Corey Price, making his second appearance here on the
ksrpre Show. We are live at kspar and Grill today.
Good morning, Corey, how are you.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I'm doing good, Billy. I'm kind of excited a chance,
I hear so I've got a chance to be here.
It's my second time. It's it was a blast first
time and I expect it to be a blasted out
this time as well.

Speaker 2 (00:56):
Well. Great to have you back.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
You do a great work with the UK Sports Network
as as a teammate over the last year or so.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
And but you know, I've got topics laid out ready
to go.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
We've got to you know, we'll talk about some stuff today,
but I just have to start with him sitting down
here with Corey at kas Far and girl just chit
chatting before the show starts, and he proceeds to tell
me that he would embarrass me in putt putt golf.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
Right, I don't know where that starter, where it came from.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Corey.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
When did you get so confident in putt putt golf?
And why did you have to challenge me like that?

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Well, I've seen your bogies with with the billy videos,
and I mean, you're you're putting me. It's decent, all right, Okay,
it's it's not horrible, But I told you off off Era.
There's a putt putt in Louisville, where I'm from. I've
been playing that since I was like, I don't know,
eight or nine, and I've pretty much mastered it. I've
broken thirty there, I think twice, which pretty good for

(01:47):
put putts. So I mean, if if you were to
play me at that putt putt in Louisville, I mean it.
I mean, you might as well just quit.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
Okay, so you've got a home course, right, you're talking
a little smack this morning. I think we have to
make this happen sometime. I think we have to play
a little put putt so I can put you in
your place.

Speaker 3 (02:04):
Core bringing on. Oh, I mean, I guess if you
pick one that's not that put putt in Louis Will.
I mean, I guess you you might have a chance.
But if you pick that one, it's it's over.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
And how are you at golf? Like, do you actually
swing a club? You ever go to the driving range
or is this just strictly the the the putt putt
course and the the bright balls that you can pick
over there.

Speaker 3 (02:24):
I am a wimp and I only do bright balls.
I've I've been to the dragon range probably three times
my whole life. I've never played actual golf.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Okay, so pretty confident from a guy that's just on
the putt putt course. But nevertheless, Uh, that is Corey Price.
If you don't know him, you can fall him on
Twitter at Corey p eight. Uh. Like I said, he's
joined the UK football broadcast and has done a great
job with that. Uh. And also popular for finding old
photos of people and exposing them at their their weakest moments,

(02:55):
whether it be yearbooks and newspapers. You got a good
photo a dare yesterday, Dan Hendrick who joined the pre show.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
He had a full head of hair in that photo
that you found.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
It's amazing.

Speaker 2 (03:05):
So how do you find like the yearbook photos?

Speaker 1 (03:07):
Because I understand we talked about the newspaper stuff, but
like yearbooks and things like that. Is there just a
database that you have access to or what's the what's you're.

Speaker 3 (03:14):
Speaking, Cory weakest moment? I think you posted picture of
me from like I did.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
I had to get I tried to get you back
A little bit is a picture a young.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
But I'm wearing a buck shirt, which I knew you
you'd enjoy.

Speaker 2 (03:27):
That's right.

Speaker 3 (03:28):
Uh So the website ancestry dot com has a a
high school year your book.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Wait, hold on, so you're you're going to ancestry and
pulling other people's data.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Well, I mean it has a yearbook like like bank
of Old your books stuck and search through you.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Okay, all right, I didn't know you were logging into
the database there, Corey.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
That's a savvy move, you.

Speaker 3 (03:53):
Know, my middle name.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Well you do, you do do a good job on
the broadcast.

Speaker 3 (03:58):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
There are some stories of people, you know, plugging their
info into ancestry or one of these sites and then
figuring out that maybe their hairtage is a little different
than what they remember, maybe a family member isn't an
actual family member that.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
They thought they were.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
But Corey Price is using it to dig up old
photos of people and he is a great follow on
Twitter if you haven't already excited for KSR a little
later today, Tyler Thompson making the drive down from Nashville.
Adam Luckett is going to be joining us to talk
a little bit. I'm sure about the football team. Wesley
Woodyard is going to be joining the show. I think
Drew Franklin's been doing a good job in the driver's seat.

(04:34):
But a theme of the show yesterday was the hard
work it takes to get to where we are today,
and whether it be Maggie and Jack doing interviews in
an old dorm on UK's campus. Before getting accepted as
a blogger on Kentucky Sports Radio, I had somewhat of
a similar story. I mean, I knew what I wanted
to do. I worked for it in college. Out of college,

(04:55):
I took a part time job with iHeart for two
and a half years, had to move back in with
my pay, so I made sacrifices. I made that minimum
salary to get where I am today, and you're still
making twenty and I'm still not making much. But at
the same time, Corey, I feel like you have some
a similar story as well. Were you just like tweeting
out the football stats and numbers and the UK Sports

(05:19):
Network took notice?

Speaker 2 (05:20):
How did you get to where you are today?

Speaker 3 (05:22):
Yeah? So, like I'm sure a lot of Cats fans,
I joined Twitter around March of two thousand and nine
because I think Matt brought up some account. I think
those given updates on whether Kyle has come to you
care or not. So I joined Twitter then and pretty
much from day one I would just post stats and

(05:43):
various stuff from you know, games that they play and
the season opener for football. In twenty fourteen, UK played
Tennessee Martin and like always, I posted some stuff after
the game and Susan Lax she's awesome. She's with the
UK Athletics media department. She slid into my DMS and

(06:09):
asked if I would be willing to help them with
their postgame game notes, and I was, honestly, at first
I didn't even know what they even was. To be
completely honest, I was like, yeah, of course I love UK.
I've always loved UK. So that first year twenty fourteen,
I would just send them an email of notes I had,

(06:30):
and then the next season twenty fifteen, I actually got
up into the press box with them, but I was
still like a volunteer. I wasn't getting paid or anything.
And the following year twenty sixteen, I became like an
employee of them, and I once again up in the
press box helping them with their postgame game notes. And
then fast forward to twenty twenty. UK Sports network Bob

(06:58):
Liba say he was doing stats leeks for I don't
know forever. Yeah, yeah, two decades to think or something.
Yet he wants to retire, so Brad Tucker, the producer
for the sports mber Key, reached out to me and
asked if I would take bob spot and I was
blown the way honestly, I'm forgot like me who loves

(07:20):
stats and who loves UK. It's it's like a dream job.
So I took it and this year will be my
third year with with that crew of you and Tom
and Jeff and Brad and Dick Aberwins. I mean to stay,
it's still still Mason, and I'm I'm working with those guys.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
So twenty nine to twenty fourteen, you're just tweeting stats.
It's just after a football or basketball game, you find
something interesting and you just throw that yeah. And so
I think that's a great story for anybody wants to
follow their passion. I mean, it's not something that happens overnight.
It took five years for you to get noticed, and

(07:59):
then you go in as of allvolunteer. Right, It's not
like you're even getting that high paying job that you'd like.
But I think many would do our jobs for free,
don't you agree? And I think you probably started as
one of those people that was just a fan of
the program and you got yourself involved.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
So I do want to commend your commitment in that way.

Speaker 3 (08:17):
Corey. Well, thank you, Billy, And you've worked hard as well.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
Well, thank you.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
No, it's a I get I do one hour of
work a day and then I wasn't the red of
the day.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
It was not.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
So it's the fourth of July weekend coming up, probably
one of America's if not, it's our favorite holiday. But
you know, things are going to be a little different
this year. Corey Joey Chestnutt is not going to be
in the hot dog eating contest.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
A shame it is.

Speaker 1 (08:43):
He's actually going to be at Fort Bliss, Texas, UH,
competing against soldiers a little different format. It's four soldiers
in five minutes versus Joey Chestnutt in five minutes. I
still don't think the soldiers have a chance. I mean,
let's say, let's say I mean Joey chestnut what's how
many hot dogs?

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Is like seventy five?

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Something like seventy five eighty something hot It's up there
in ten minutes. So we're looking at like thirty dogs
every five minutes, thirty thirty five on the max scale.
So I mean, these soldiers they got to be ready
to bring their own. They better be ready to eat
probably seven or eight dogs a piece in those five minutes.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
I don't think they're gonna be able to put up
those numbers.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
No, I mean, Joey's not even human. But I think
the soldiers, I think when they go like basic training,
I think they don't have a lot of time to eat,
so they might be used to eating fast. I don't
know bout eating vats fast obviously, but they give them
a puncher's chance. They give them fifty chance to beat Joey.

Speaker 2 (09:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Maybe if they were doing those meal ready things that
the soldiers normally, maybe they beat Joey in that.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
But I just don't know.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
As Joey has been banished from the Nathan's Hot Dog
Eating Contest for sponsoring impossible foods, that it's gonna get
the same ratings that it is, that it'll feel the
same patriotic way, but it will be different.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
How about this stat Corey.

Speaker 1 (09:59):
Ten thousand people had to go to the er last
year in America due to fireworks after the Fourth of July.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Yeah, some people who just stelling what they're doing, I
think didn't Jason Pierre Paul.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Yes, the former New York Giant and Tampa Bay buccaneer,
about blue his hand off in a firework accident. And
this leads me to probably my hottest take of Fourth
of July is that sparklers are the dumbest invention of
the holiday. We give this fireball to children and the
fireball just gets closer and closer to your hand.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
I can't.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
I can tell you countless stories about kids getting burned
by these things. I think sparklers are probably the dumbest
thing that we do around this holiday.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
But you know, we all try and spell our Oh.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
Yeah, you go, try to spell your name.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Hey, But I agree it's it's dangerous because it does
get pretty pretty closely.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Oh, we just give it to kids, you know, like
usually the adults will handle the bottle rock.

Speaker 3 (10:52):
I think we all know Billi's opinion on kids, so
it's fun.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
I love kids, Corey. I don't know what you're talking about.
It's just late night postcam shows. When lie to me
and say that it's somebody else, that's when I don't
like the kids. But I do want to, you know,
send out a PSA to everybody that is planning on
shooting out some fireworks this holiday weekend. Just be mindful
of the veterans that are around you, or the people
with pets, including dogs that really are reactive to things

(11:16):
like that. That doesn't mean you can't shoot off your
fireworks on Fourth of July night. Go off and have
your fun, but just be mindful of your neighbors. Maybe
somebody that is experiencing PTSD in the past. And you know,
there is the debate on how long after the Fourth
of July that you can set off firework. Corey, I
think it's fine the day before and even the day after,

(11:37):
but any day after that, I think we need to
stop the fireworks. Would you agree with that or do
you think it's you know, this is America. You can't
tell me what to do. I'm gonna lie off my
fireworks whenever I want.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
No, I think you're right. I think I think even
the day before the actress even a little much. I
think just the Fourth of July. But I mean by
my house, they've been setting some off, not a whole lot,
but like this past week, I'm just like, why.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Oh, I've heard them. Yeah, I've heard them too. Definitely
a couple people out there. I know it does impact
a lot of Americans in a negative way. So I
do want to say that just you know, like I said,
make sure you go shoot off your fireworks, have fun,
but just be mindful of your neighbors and the people
around you. I think that's the least that we can
do during this Fourth of July holiday. Eight five nine
two eight h two two eight seven if you'd like

(12:19):
to give us a call. Five oh two two six
five six six five six. How cool was it here
in Aaron Harrison on KSR yesterday, Corey, I was, I
mean wow, I mean as a great, great guest.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Not quite the poll of a Rick, but it was
still awesome to him talking about I mean, it's it'll
be hard to top March of twenty fourteen. For Cats fans.
It was just, I mean, just crazy shot after a
crazy shot after crazy shot. It was I mean, we
were on the edge of our seats for three three
weeks straight. It was just insane.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
It was I remember watching those games and my friends
in the dorms at Western Kentucky just losing their mind
Corey about those shots.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
And rightly so.

Speaker 1 (13:00):
I mean, those were ridiculous shots that Aaron just kept
throwing up there. It'll be cool to have both the
twins in this TBT tournament that's coming up. And I
also saw yesterday that the TBT team, the La Familia
of the Kentucky alumni, are going to scrimmage the current
Kentucky team before their game starts.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
So I love that too.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
You know, some of these guys coming back like Daniel Orton,
Nate Cistina, the Twins, Willie Coley Stein in that one
of the coolest things about coming to Kentucky is the
alumni base and the former players that come back. And
this is one of those examples where we'll see a scrimmage.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
Hey Kraus from about twenty twelve when there was a
lockout in the NBA and the thunder Ken Luxington and
they would play against the current Cats team and that
team went on to win a title. So maybe there's
a parallel.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
Maybe I don't know, but there is a lot of
excitement with Mark Pope and maybe we'll get into a
little bit more of that here with my guest Corey
Price this morning. You could follow him on Twitter at
Corey p eight. You can follow me as well at
Billy R Sports. We need to take our first break today.
We'll take some of your calls. I think Drew Franklin
will join us at some point today. I've got to
talk to him about something that happened yesterday.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
Corey. A little tease for you there and much more
on the way.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
It is the show before the Show, The KSRP pre
Show Live at Kaspar and Grill today, we will be
right back, all right, welcome back. This is the KSR
pre show Billy reut Legit and Corey Price live at
Kosbar and Grill this morning, getting you set for KSR
later today.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
A packed show ahead.

Speaker 1 (14:28):
It feels a little bit like the first day of
the NCAA tournament in basketball Cory, where people are at work.
But I don't know if there's a ton of work
being done with the weekend ahead, Hopefully everybody stays safe
traveling and as they tried to light off some fireworks
this weekend. You can text us at five two two
six five six six five six, where some people are
chiming in about Roman candles are definitely more dangerous than

(14:52):
sparklers in this person's opinion, I can agree when there
are videos of people shooting those room and candles at
other people or at established Corey.

Speaker 3 (15:01):
Uh, these people, Uh, these people have brains the other
three in sixty four days of the year. It's July fourth.
I don't know what happens, but uh, their brain comes mush.
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
One person says, do kids still try and spell their
names out with sparklers? Since cursive is no longer a thing?

Speaker 3 (15:17):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (15:18):
You know that's a good thought, because do they even
possess the brain power to spell their name out in
cursive anymore?

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Corey, that is.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
One thing that has gone away with technology. I don't
I don't know if cursive is even taught.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
In schools anymore.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Are you old enough to remember?

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Oh, yeah, curse?

Speaker 1 (15:33):
Uh huh yeah, I did my I did my cursive
boot camp back and I think it was third grade
when they did it for me.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (15:39):
And I I don't use it at all unless I'm
doing a signature true story.

Speaker 3 (15:43):
My brother Michael, he's he was a grade uh said,
he was two grades above me. Uh. I think it's
like I was in first grade and he was in
third grade. He brought home some cursive and I kid
did not. I. I cried when I saw it.

Speaker 2 (15:57):
You cried.

Speaker 3 (15:57):
I cried how long? Because I thought it'd be so
hard to ran curses, which is kind of silly, as
looking back.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
You saw the writing on the wall and you thought, man,
I may not ever be able to do this. Will
you pick it up? It kind of comes to you
after a while, but it is a dying art for sure.
This segment is brought to you by Draft Kings with
all the different sports that are still going on. We've

Speaker 2 (16:45):
You know. The UFC is still happening right now as well.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
We may be in a dead spot for college athletics
as we all wait for that college video sports video
game to come out. But download DraftKings. The crown is yours.
Gambling problem called one eight hundred Gambler eighteen plus Kentucky only.

deposited and eligibility restrictions apply. Terms that dkg dot co,

(17:08):
slash MMA or used promo code KSR. We are fifty
nine days away until the start of the UK football season.
I saw Corey Price tweet that out earlier this morning
as he starts his countdown. And the big news yesterday
was Javon Campbell committing to the Cats. The number one
player in the state, the kid who hasn't played football,

(17:29):
I guess until.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
This last year.

Speaker 3 (17:30):
Corey amazing.

Speaker 1 (17:32):
I heard this interview with Tom Leach this morning with Campbell,
and this guy's the all time leading scorer at Western
Hills for his basketball team. The coach just sees him
in the hallway and says, son, you gotta play football.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
You've got the size for it.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
We need you to play edge on the football team.
And that may have been the best move the coach
made all year. And also learned from the Tom Leach
interview that he had just started lifting.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Weights before that football season.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
So get this guy in the uk FO fall weight room, Corey,
and maybe he could be the next Dion Walker.

Speaker 3 (18:03):
What do you think it's Scott's limit? I mean, Vince Marrow,
I mean once again, it's rinse and repeat. You know,
he gets the best of the best in the state
to stay home and play for the Cats. With stuck
the mortgage being like the host of it.

Speaker 2 (18:19):
I think we kind of knew you think that was
a wink and a nod to like staying in state.
They are growing, Corey. I don't know if.

Speaker 3 (18:26):
You growing, but I was hyped that they had ice
cream there for for the people.

Speaker 2 (18:34):
The ice cream truck.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
That's pretty awesome.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
That is a way to.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Appease the people coming to your commencement ceremony. It's it's
not the same, though, is it? Because when I was
a kid and you heard that ice cream truck, you
had some vintage stuff, right, whether it be like the
uh like Batman or SpongeBob ice cream, or you even
had I mean, what was your ice you had the
rocket pops back in the day. What would what would

(18:58):
be your ice cream move?

Speaker 3 (18:59):
Well, when I was a kid, if that sounds coming,
you had to make sure the truck had windows because
if it was window lists, I wouldn't go near it.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Good goal, Yes, good goal.

Speaker 3 (19:10):
I'm trying to think my favorite treat pick. I mean
probably just a basic sandwich.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Oh you're so basicy, I'm but.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Back in the day, man, that was something. You heard
that ice cream truck music, you ran outside to find it.
I don't know if it's the same nowadays, but uh,
they do start keep making the rounds, And there was
one at the commencement ceremony yesterday.

Speaker 2 (19:34):
You know, what do you think is going to be.

Speaker 1 (19:35):
The biggest difference this year with Bush, Hampden and Vandergriff
compared to Devin Leary and Liam Cohen last year? You
watched every single game, all the home games from booth.
Are you expecting a different style, maybe the pace to
be a little bit more than the slowest offense in
college football?

Speaker 2 (19:52):
Uh, you know, what are your expectations for this upcoming year.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
Well, it's pretty hard to be slower than what there
was past season. And Bush said he's gone try and
pick up the pace. He also said probably more design
runs for the quarterback. Two. I think I said he
once two to three first downs a game by runs
from from.

Speaker 1 (20:12):
The qb Okay, I wish we had that with Will
Levis number. When Skangrillo came in and said, you're never
running the ball.

Speaker 3 (20:18):
Yeah, I guess, I don't know. Yeah, it was unfortunate.

Speaker 2 (20:21):
It was unfortunate.

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Yes, I think Delia was a little banged up last year,
so we didn't see his full potential. I think from
what all know Brock's healthy and ready and raring to go.
I just I mean, I just want to see a
faster pace. I think the faster you go puts more
pressure on on the defense.

Speaker 2 (20:41):
Well, I think the receivers definitely have to step up
this year.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
With a bit of a revolving door at running back.
Who is going to step up in that backfield? Is
it the Ohio State guy?

Speaker 2 (20:51):
Could it be somebody else?

Speaker 1 (20:52):
But we know Dane Key and barry On Brown are
still going to be out there, along with a couple
other transfers. So there is a lot of excitement building
South Carolina Week two. Man, they get started with a
tough opponent pretty early that I think that might be
a pretty early litmus test there. But along with that news,
Dion Walker was the Walter Camp preseason All American list.

(21:13):
That may be a top ten pick for Kentucky next year.
Is that not crazy to think about.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
He's gonna be on a lot of those those lists
this year, So just get ready. He's he's a beast.
He's I mean, he can't be held just by one
one guy. It's he is awesome to watch it.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
And that's the thing, Like they're double and triple team
in this guy at this point now, and he's still
able to make an impact clogging that middle or getting
in the backfield. I'm gonna call it right now. I
think he's a top ten pick in the NFL draft
next year. I am really going out on a limb
here saying that.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
You could go on DraftKings and make that bet proa.

Speaker 2 (21:46):
Look at this guy. Bringing it back to the ad read.
I like it. Cory, You're starting to pick up the
trades of radio a little bit.

Speaker 3 (21:51):
I can.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
But we are coming up on a break here soon
eight five nine two to zero two two eight seven.
If you'd like to give us a call or text
us if you have a question for Corey. I'd like
to ask you a little bit about behind the scenes
with Tom and Jeff, you know, maybe the ets. Yeah,
maybe something that you can reveal. Maybe think about that
during the break. And I think Drew Franklin's gonna wander
on here a little bit later in the show. He

(22:14):
might join us and we'll we'll chat with him the
man in the big chair for KSR later today. Corey
Price is our guest this morning on the KSR pre Show.
We're live at Kaspar and Grill will take a break
and be back one day away from the.

Speaker 2 (22:26):
Fourth of July. This is the ksrpre Show.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
Welcome back, This is the KSR pre Show. We roll
along on a Wednesday. No Shannon the Dude today, I
am Billy Rutledge along with Corey Price. We're kicking back,
relaxing at ksbar and Grill, getting ready for this holiday
weekend up ahead A five nine two eight zero two
two eight seven. Corey did remind me during the break
that today is the five year anniversary that we lost

(22:49):
Jared Lorenzen, the hefty Lefty, a beloved figure in Big
Blue Nation, taken away from us way too soon, a
host of KSR at times, but obviously left a lasting
legacy at this program.

Speaker 3 (23:03):
Yeah, it's very sad. I'm sad that I never got
got to meet him personally. His amazing guy. A heart
goal is his four years of UK were the same
four years I was in high school, so I followed
that those four teams for very closely. He's he was
a lefty like me, this awesome guy, so so many

(23:24):
great memories, and he was taking from us way, way,
way too soon.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Yeah, I luckily I got to interview him for my
podcast as I had just.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Started at iHeartRadio.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
Corey.

Speaker 1 (23:34):
It was actually just one of those moments that seemed
to work out, and I was able to interview him
and learn a little bit about his life and his
journey and winning a super Bowl, and you know, he's
He's done so many great things.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
We miss him so much. On this five year anniversary,
you can.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
Text us at five O two two sixty five six
six five six. One person says crazy that you brought
up ancestry dot com. I'm a hairdresser and I've had
two clients this week come in and find out their
parents had an affair, and they have siblings they didn't
know about all from doing the ancestry test.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
You can look at affairs through ancestry dot com.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
It doesn't you tell me, Corey, that's where you're getting
people's earbook photos.

Speaker 3 (24:10):
I get pictures. I don't try and mess up marriages.

Speaker 1 (24:14):
Please don't mess up any marriages or families. I have
a friend that just did their ancestry test and learned
that their brother is not their brother. So it can
get pretty extreme when you start getting the science involved
and realize that mom or dad were kind.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Of sneaking off and going somewhere else. Corey.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
Okay, let me ask you a non sports question because
that's what we do on the pre show, Drew walking in, stumbling.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
In, We got Tyler Thomp.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
So look at this rock star made the trip down
excited for KSR. Later today, let me ask you this, Corey,
is there any inappropriate places to get engaged at? Recently
there was a couple that got engaged at a Limp
Biscuit concert as they were performing the song break Stuff.
I think that's maybe a little bit of a health
hazard as you have mosh pits around you, But you

(25:02):
know what, to each their own. Maybe they met at
a Limp Biscuit concert and this is going full circle
for them. But in your opinion, are there any places
that are inappropriate to get engaged at?

Speaker 3 (25:14):
I would say probably a funeral probably not the best
good call.

Speaker 1 (25:17):
Funeral is not the time to show up what's happening
and to ask somebody's hand in marriage, it's a good call.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
Might be the worst spot. I'm not thinking it awkward.

Speaker 1 (25:27):
Where do you stand on like the stadium, because we've
seen people at Roup, we've seen people at Kroger Field.
You get on the jumbo tron. This is a planned
thing at times, and you get down on one knee
and you ask them to be.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
That doesn't bother me too much, I asked. I mean,
I hope for the guy that the woman says he yes,
because she says no. It's that's that's rough. But yeah,
I don't have a problem with doing it.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
There, Okay, you don't have a problem with No. No,
I'm not a big fan of it. But you know, again,
to each their own. Maybe you met at a Reds
game or a Kentucky game, and that is full circle.
What do you think about the female proposing to the male?

Speaker 3 (26:01):
But you know, I don't I don't have a problem.
I know the standard is the male, but I mean,
it doesn't bother me, honestly if the female proposes. I mean,
I mean, it's love is love.

Speaker 2 (26:11):
It it's twenty twenty four.

Speaker 3 (26:13):
That's right, Corey.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
Anything's possible. Come on, Kevin Garnett, I think said once.
I think that's right, Kevin Garnett. Anything's possible.

Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
So, I mean, you feel that love in your heart,
why not get down on one knee and ask the guy?
My girlfriend was getting close to that. I mean, we
were at six plus years. She was like, what's going on?
I'm about to just do this thing myself. And I
was like, I don't know if I could live that
down because you just don't see that very often.

Speaker 2 (26:37):
It's your society. It happens a five nine two two
two eight seven.

Speaker 1 (26:42):
If you have many maybe an engagement story that you'd
like to share with us there. Let's talk a little
bit about the basketball team, because there is excitement building
with Mark Pope, uh the first year without John Caliperi
and many fans lifetime. Think about these kids that have
only known John callup Parry. We've heard maybe like a
young Mario that doesn't know Kentucky basketball program without Cal.

(27:06):
You what have you thought about the fans perception of
Pope and kind of how those weeks played out when
he came in on the bus and Cal left with
the chicken guy to Arkansas?

Speaker 2 (27:14):
What was what kind of you? What did you make
out of all that?

Speaker 3 (27:17):
Well? I think I had the same direction as most
fans the night it came out. I was like, really, Mark,
I mean we were looking at Hurley and Drew from
Hurley and Drew to Pope. I was like, oh man,
But I think like everybody else, I took a night
to sleep on it, and from the next day I
was like, let's go.

Speaker 2 (27:37):
Had to sleep on it.

Speaker 1 (27:38):
Maybe it took twenty four hours to let it seep
in because I mean this was a guy that was
coaching at BYU, right, and like you said, the people
that they were talking to, the Dan Hurleys, these titans
of the sport, you could say. And then to go
to Mark Pope, I think it was a little shocking.
But to bring in one of your own, it seems
like it's kind of rallied this fan base a little bit.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
And I was there up a Sunday, this his first
press conference, and it was I mean, it was magical
that place.

Speaker 2 (28:03):
It was magical.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
It was the place was full. I mean just just
the energy before the excitement. It was awesome.

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Now, do you really think that Kentucky's gonna be shooting
thirty three pointers a game? Like? Are we gonna be
getting to that Mark? Is it gonna be nato Its
on steroids? Or do you think that changes a little bit?

Speaker 3 (28:20):
I think they can get close at thirty. I know
exactly thirty, But I know Mark, I mean, ever since
he's been through at every Suppo has been out. He's
wanting to push the pace, push to push the pace.
So I don't say why the Cambridge is twenty five.

Speaker 2 (28:35):
At least they have the depth for it, right.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
I mean, it's been impressive to see the caliber a
player that they've brought in in the transfer portal era
where guys are wanting playing time. How much money are
you gonna pay me? You know, how much time are
you gonna get me on the court? Am I gonna
be a guaranteed starter? Mark Pope's got guys all the
way down that roster that are gonna be fighting for minutes.
So whether it be Kerkkrisa coming in and talking trash
or how about Brandon Garrison the story from asr's website

(29:01):
that he bought his mom BMW with his new nil money.

Speaker 3 (29:05):
That's one of the many positives about by that now
was you know they can, you know, do things for
their loved ones that you know, past years they simply
couldn't do. What about uh CHRISA saying he thought Pope
played soccer. That's pretty awesome.

Speaker 2 (29:19):
What did he I didn't see that? He said it
was Mark Pope played soccer.

Speaker 3 (29:22):
It was a video that UK did. They asked each
player who who they could if they played Pope as
prime to a game of twenty one, what would the
score be? A cur said, I thought Pope played soccer.

Speaker 2 (29:34):
That's pretty good.

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Yeah, I did see the video where Pope is talking
to that what is it that some famous actor that's
in the in the building with them and he's like,
this is the guy that everybody either hates or loves.
And he's like, yep, that was That's right. That's the
comedian Nate Bargotzi when he came in. A big fan
of Drew Franklin is a big fan of and uh,

(29:55):
I know we'll be talking to him a little bit
in the next segment. I've got a little story for
him that we need to talk about. But there is
a lot of excitement for this team. I mean, not
a ton of NBA talent, So it's going to be
completely different than what I think we've seen in the
past with John Caliperry just stacking it. Maybe Jackson Robinson's
the exception. But ESPN ranked Kentucky number twenty three in
their preseason poll just this week, So what is that?

Speaker 2 (30:16):
Does that sound about right for you?

Speaker 3 (30:17):
Corey seems I think they could be ranked a little higher.
I would say probably fifteen to nineteen, somewhere in that range.

Speaker 2 (30:24):
Okay, so your expectations are still pretty high of course.

Speaker 3 (30:27):
Yeah, we're the Cats.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
So there's no.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Bridge year to give Mark Pope a chance to settle
into the job. What do you expect to maybe a
sweet sixteen in the first year.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Well, I mean winning in the first round would be
a plus.

Speaker 2 (30:40):
That'd be a change.

Speaker 3 (30:41):
Then, you know, the last couple of years have not
been that way. He's brought in a lot of guys
that have done it at at this level. So, I mean,
I don't think it's crazy to think the second weekend
is something that we should attain for.

Speaker 1 (30:56):
I think so, I mean, just as a program in general,
I mean it's been a little ridiculous over the last
two years.

Speaker 2 (31:01):
That Providence is the only win.

Speaker 1 (31:03):
That they have, right, all stars, look at this, Mario's here,
this new camera. Adam Luckett is here, finally away from
baby duty.

Speaker 3 (31:10):
Getting flustered with all the stars here.

Speaker 1 (31:12):
It is a little bit of a party in here.
We've got a loaded KSR show. Hopefully you'll stick with us.
I know a lot of people love the pre show.
But KSR has got a great show coming up next.
I'm prepared for Warren County, Tutor. Don't you worry. We've
got that ready to go.

Speaker 3 (31:25):
I'm sure you have plenty of stories about Warren.

Speaker 2 (31:27):
C I do.

Speaker 1 (31:27):
I've got plenty of bars that you go to as
well in Warren County. Sure A five nine two eight
zero two two eight seven. Let's take an early break here.
I think we'll welcome Drew Franklin on when we get back.
Corey Price is our guest. Could He's a great follow
on Twitter at Corey P eight, the UK football statiician
that joins Tom Leach and Jeff Pikoor on the booth.
Oh before we go, I tease something because I want

(31:49):
to hear a behind the scenes stories from me. I
just I want to hear a little bit about Tom
Leach and Jeff Piccoro off the air, because I hear
some of the conversations, but you're there in the middle
of it. And tell me something that maybe we don't
know about those two guys, in the chemistry that they have,
or maybe the time that they screamed at you for
getting the stat wrong.

Speaker 3 (32:07):
I mean, I never get stats wrong.

Speaker 2 (32:08):
Billy, so good, good save.

Speaker 3 (32:11):
I know Tom. I only Tom just he's he's a
pros pro. He's he's so he pays attention to detail.
He's he's focused, I mean from from from the get go.
He's getting his board ready, he's getting all this his
notes ready. He's just he's awesome. Jeff. Jeff can be
a little lighter pregame. He does his fair share of homework,

(32:33):
but uh, he's a little less I guess serious is
right word. But Tom is laser focused from the moment
he gets there, which I expect he's in my opinion,
he's he's the best at what he does. Uh, Jeff
can be a good ball at times. I think I
don't know if people saw last year he put a

(32:54):
a helmet on me during during one of the games.

Speaker 2 (32:57):
I was pretty do you remember that?

Speaker 3 (32:59):
So Jeff Jeff can make it light. But I mean
they're both. I mean it's awesome and like I said,
this is my third third year and to his day,
I can't believe I get to work with him and
I get to work with you, Billy. I mean it's
just amazing.

Speaker 2 (33:13):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (33:13):
I get to tell you to go to break or
you're back from break ye or you're off the air
because we're having technical difficulties.

Speaker 2 (33:19):
Again. Tom is a true pro.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
You cannot be that good at your job and not prepare,
and he is always prepared. He's always giving us stats
that about the guys that are playing in the situation.
He does, like you said, I want to achio that sentiment.
He does a fantastic job. Jeff Bikoro as well. Jeff
actually hosted KSR this summer a little bit earlier. Did
a good job as all the baseball stuff was going on.

(33:43):
But there is a story about him eating oysters the
day before the bowl game and then him calling up
our boss Brad Tucker at six am saying, I'm not
going to make the call, and I believe the UK
Sports I don't know if you were there for that one, Corey,
since it was a bowl game, trying to remember which
one it was, but they started to make a couple
of calls. They were calling, like I believe it was

(34:04):
like Jacob Tammy and Tim Couch's trying to get somebody
up there in the booth with Tom, and then Pokorol
the gamer comes up.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
He's like, I'm doing it. I'm doing the job, and that's.

Speaker 1 (34:13):
Why the moral of the story is, Corey, you don't
eat oysters the night before an important broadcast, right.

Speaker 3 (34:19):
Where it's not eat at all? I don't eat oysters.

Speaker 2 (34:21):
Where do you stand on seafood? Are you a seafood
guy at all?

Speaker 3 (34:24):
I mean fish shrimp? That's probably about as while that
as they get what comes to seafood.

Speaker 1 (34:31):
Okay, so you're not slurping down any oysters or cracking crab. No,
maybe a little lobster at Jeff Ruby's. Can't afford that
on twenty dollars a week paycheck. Maybe you can't on
the UK football Stattician one.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
That's about twenty bucks a week.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
Two.

Speaker 3 (34:45):
So fish, fish and shrimp. I'm like I saying, I'm
pretty pretty plain.

Speaker 2 (34:50):
Okay, pretty bland there, Corey.

Speaker 1 (34:51):
But you know what, You're gonna save yourself a world
of hurt when you do eat the wrong oyster like
Jeff Pikoro did Texas five to two sixty five sixty six,
five six. We're gonna take a break. We've got one
segment to go here on the KSR pre show. I'm
joined by Corey Price, I'm Billy Rutlede. We will be
right back, Welcome back. This is the KSR pre show.

(35:13):
In this segment is brought to you by Right Way
Auto Glass. Whether you have a cracked windshield from a
rock or a crazy X, Right Way Autoglass can't fix
your broken heart, but they can fix all the cracks
in your glass. It's been said there's a right way
or the highway, and when it comes to windshield repair,
Right Way Autoglass does it the right way every time.
Next time you have a crack on your windshield, called
Right Way Autoglass directly. It can be a real pain

(35:36):
trying to get a hold of your insurance company, but
if you call right Way Autoglass first, they will handle
the insurance claims process for you. Yeah, that makes it easy.
Did you know in most cases, your insurance will cover
the costs of your cracked windshield. It's Right Way Autoglass.
Call them an eight five, nine, five, two three ten
ninety eight, locally owned and operated, so they focus on
customer service. It's Billy Rutlige and Corey Price, Drew Franklin

(35:57):
joining us here for a couple of minutes before KOSR starts.
Good morning and Drew, are you good?

Speaker 5 (36:01):
What's going on? I'm a busy man. I'm driving over
here and you're you're saying you got a story to
tell me and things we got to talk about.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Is something going on?

Speaker 2 (36:08):
I mean, we're trying to fill time here on July third. No, No,
you're not.

Speaker 4 (36:12):
Something happened.

Speaker 2 (36:13):
I know that we are going to be playing Valhalla
in the.

Speaker 1 (36:15):
Next couple of weeks or so, so I want to
make sure you can still hit a golf ball and
you're ready for that.

Speaker 4 (36:20):
I'm actually very worried about that, are you.

Speaker 5 (36:22):
It's been a while since I've hit a golf ball,
and that's a big jump to go from not hitting
a golf ball to Valhalla. So I'm a little a
little unprepared.

Speaker 1 (36:30):
Well, I'd be cautious if you did the Corey Price
way of getting ready for this round, because he only
plays putt putt, so I don't know if that would
exactly be what you're looking for. But he came in
saying that he would embarrass me. It was quite the
start to the show. I did want to talk to
you a little bit about a video I sent you yesterday.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
I was I was scrolling.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Through my phone and I found video of the Matt
Jones roast that I thought was lost to time, though
I didn't know we had copies of this video and
I not only found that, but I found a little
bit of Mary Joe set, which was what she killed.
She was the absolutely best part of it. But the
three minute clip I sent you was of you, Shannon

(37:07):
and Ryan do it a little bit for Matt Jones
and uh was it as you remembered.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
It, Drew.

Speaker 5 (37:13):
I couldn't even get through it, Billy, I hate my
own voice. I watched ten seconds of it, and even
though that was one of my favorite memories ever, I'm
still chasing that high of that room laughing. Yeah, I
couldn't get through the video. I just couldn't look at myself.
But I'm glad you found it. I would be careful
making it public until Yeah, I don't know. My understanding

(37:34):
is after that night he wanted it buried under the
Omni Hotel in Louisville to never see the light of day.
But I'm glad to know it is in your possession.
It's not lost forever.

Speaker 1 (37:42):
I do have a couple of clips that was like
early on, you guys barely knew who I was. I
was just joining in filling in for Shannon and saying
I could get Jennifer Lawrence's phone number at that time.

Speaker 4 (37:50):
So that was your video, That's what I was gonna ask. Yeah, okay,
it was.

Speaker 5 (37:52):
Actually it looks like it was filmed like you're kind
of holding it down low. It's a side angle, almost
like you're you're not supposed to be doing it.

Speaker 1 (37:58):
It was, it was, and sha and the dude sounds
completely different. He doesn't even sound like Shannon the Dude,
which is uh, goes back to like why we can't
listen to our own voice at times? Do you ever
go back and listen to old shows?

Speaker 2 (38:09):
But you can't? I don't.

Speaker 5 (38:10):
When I'm driving over here, listen to the pre show,
I have an AD that pops up and I smacked
the radio and turn it off immediately and sit in silence,
and I'm like, that's about thirty seconds. I can turn
it back on. Now I can't do it. And then
that video you sent me last night, that was a
few years ago. It looked like I'd been stung by
fifty bees a few more pounds on me. So even
though I wanted to listen to those jokes and it had
been a while, I don't remember all of them. I

(38:31):
couldn't just sit there and look and listen to myself.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Care Are you the same way? Is it like you
hate listening to your own voice because a lot of
people do.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
Yeah, I'm not the biggest fan, and like Drew, I
was a little heavier back then, So if there was
any video of that, I would back then would be
almost ashamed.

Speaker 4 (38:46):
Shot it's white loss.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
Yeah, man shout out to weight loss. Well, Drew, I'm
excited for ks R later today. We've got the superstar
Tyler Thompson here, Adam Luckett, who's already working hard. I'm
sure on something else, Uh, but I do want to
talk to you about one story that I had. You
are a frequent bar I'm sure I'll talk a little
bit about bars when we talk about Warren County. But
there is a new restaurant outside of Saint Louis called Bliss,

(39:08):
and they have an interesting age restriction. Men must be
thirty five or older to enter, but women have to
be only thirty.

Speaker 2 (39:15):
Years old or older to enter.

Speaker 1 (39:17):
We've heard age restrictions in the past, but can you
think of a good reason why men have to be
older than women to get in?

Speaker 5 (39:24):
I think that's a little weird. I wouldn't mind a
place where there's older people there, not looking for men
and women. I'm just at an age where I like
it a little quiet. I'm there to just be with
the people I go with. I don't need a crowd,
so I'm not against an adult bar. But the age
gap there's a little weird.

Speaker 2 (39:39):
Yeah, what what is it about.

Speaker 5 (39:40):
I thought you were gonna tell me men have to
be thirty five and the women have to be like twenty,
and I was gonna say, let's close. That's creepy now,
but five years is still I don't even know why
it's necessary that they have that.

Speaker 1 (39:49):
Yeah, why are we discriminating against the men age thirty
to thirty five? What did they do wrong? The restaurant
is defending their stance on this. They're saying that they
the young people bring in a lot of drama and
we just want a drama free environment for people to eat.

Speaker 5 (40:04):
I get that, it's just this little, this five year
gap between the men and women is what I don't
understand is there's is there something happens between age thirty
and thirty five that they're just not They're not there,
They're not allowed to be they're not allowed to be in.

Speaker 2 (40:15):
That seems like age discrimination to me a little bit.
I'm not sure.

Speaker 1 (40:18):
What about men age thirty to thirty five are doing
wrong and they.

Speaker 5 (40:22):
Carting people at the door and turn them around like
if I'm thirty four. I mean they are they really saying.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Refusing the business? Yeah, that's apparently what they're doing right now.

Speaker 3 (40:30):
Only we had we knew someone that was good with
like with like the law, you know, that could figure
this out.

Speaker 2 (40:35):
Do you want to assume him?

Speaker 3 (40:37):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (40:38):
Well, maybe that's what we'll give Matt his tasks when
he comes back. I'm sure he'll have enough to do,
but we'll add that to the list.

Speaker 4 (40:45):
Sounds like a good place to meet some creeps.
