Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KSR pre Show.
Today is Thursday, August fifteenth. I am Billy Rutledge and
No Shannon the Dude. Today it is his last day
before he comes back and joins us for a Friday
remote at Shady Rays in Louisville. You can give us
a call today eight five nine two eight h two
two eight seven Texas at five O two two six

(00:22):
five six six five six. Today I am live at
KS Bar and Grill an empty KS Bar and Grill.
Besides my guest today the former first team All American
for the Kentucky Wildcats. His name is Max Duffy and
he's now back in the city of Lexington. Good morning, Max,
how are you, dude?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Thank you for having me. It is It's very lonely
in here, isn't it. Uh My one gripe. Though yesterday
you introduced Cash and told him how good he was
looking for about the first two minutes. Nothing for me.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
Well let me get there, Max. I don't know if
you have seen Cash recently, but I think he's trying
out for the WWE or gonna try to become a bodybuilder.
That guy maybe spends a little bit more time in
the weight room than you and I. But I'm looking
great this morning. What's going on just a little bit
more probably than me and you.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
No. I saw him maybe a week or two ago,
and yeah, he's massive.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
Well he told me his regiment a little bit. How
about the creatine that he takes and the diet that
he's on right now. And I was like, God, bless
you man, you are you were I wish you looked
like that when you were playing. You know, it's a
little bit of a little different training than it was
back then.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah too, a little too late. What happened to this
dedication moment? He was on the UK welcast.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Were you one of those guys in the weight room
just moving weight around? Everybody gathers around to see Max
do a squad or you can't tell? I mean, come on,
I mean this is I expect nothing but the best
from you.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Back in those days, no punters and kickers don't have
to do a whole lot in the weight room. So
we got in and got out. I used to tell him,
I put chalk on the hands and do the lebron
James and then get out of there.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
The lebron jab in the room punters are people too.
And we are talking to a Ray Guy Award winner
at the University of Kentucky from twenty eighteen to twenty
twenty and now a coach spent some time at Murray
Stata as a grat assist at when Deede Hood has
now transitioned to Lexington and is with LCA and man,
how is that journey going for you so far? It's

(02:06):
very different coaching than it is playing.

Speaker 2 (02:08):
Right, Yeah, very very different. Obviously a lot more hours.
You kind of get a good appreciation for what coaches
do and how many hours they put in and all
the things that they do just to set up a
simple practice. You probably overlook it when you're a player,
but really enjoyed it. Loved my time in Murray with
coach Hood was awesome. I mean, every time you're around
that man, you become a better person. And to be

(02:29):
around him all the time was really good. And loved
my time in Murray. Unfortunately we didn't have a whole
lot of success and there were certain factors where we
really limited in what we could do, but it was
great fun. Not a whole lot to do in the
town of Murray, but it was good fun. And kept
me busy. And then yeah, now coming back here and

(02:49):
starting my stuff with LCA, It's been really, really fun.
I love working with the kids and hopefully making an
impact on them and hopefully we can win some games
and get rid of the cheating allegations that keepe happening
on the next shot.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Well, you're right about not much to do in Murray.
I mean, if there was a culture shock from you
going from Australia to the States, there may have been
a little bit of one from you going to Murray.
From Lexington to Murray too. But it was interesting. I'm
a big Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. I grew up in
Tampa as a kid and Warren Sapp is one of
the best players from franchise history. And he just joined
the staff at Colorado with Deon Sanders, and he was

(03:22):
given an interview and he was like, I had no
interest in coaching, but when I started doing it a
little bit and the kids were just so interested in it, Like,
you know, coach, you want to do film study with
me at five point thirty in the morning, You know, coach,
can you do this for me? Being able to give
back in that capacity and change kids' lives. I mean,
you see that at the college level, but you can
you'll see it even more when you when you're coaching

(03:43):
at ELCA.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
Absolutely, And my big passion, I mean really since I've
been a teenager has been you know, psychology and helping people.
And I've got my masses in psychology. And if i
can give back in the certain way to any kid
to help him, you know, see a different perspective or
be some sort of a mental role, and then I'm
going to be able to do it. And football and
sport allows me to do it in a way that

(04:05):
probably helps me relate to them. So that's been great.
I mean, same thing like the guys coming in and
asking for your advice. You almost feel like a dad sometimes,
which is it makes you feel good? I'm not sure
I always give the best advice. I do my best.
I tell them always to try and figure it out
on their own. But no, I've enjoyed it. And the
kids at Elsie are great kids so far. That's what

(04:26):
I've enjoyed so much is they're all really really good
kids and they do the right thing all the time.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
And how do you put it to Matt? You said
something to the fact of you spoke to the team
and you said, Okay, get the kangaroo jokes out of
the way and then let's play some football, because I'm
sure that you know, maybe some discussions about your country
of Australia comes up a little bit, right.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Oh. Absolutely. Every time we're on the sideline and practice
and they've got a spare minute, they're asking me if
I actually put shrimp on the barbie, or if I've
actually seen a kangaroo, or what their jamaid is like.
And I've heard it all before for the last six years, unfortunately.
But if it keeps people entertained and gives them something
to talk.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
About, well you just wait. I've got a dk ad
that you're gonna love a little bit later in the show.
I've heard and I looked at some of the top
headlines in Australia, and later in the show, I'll give
you some of those, Max.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
I actually look forward to that. That's gonna be awesome.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Little nostalgia there for you for your home country. But
I'm also excited for you to be back on the
KSR pregame show. I know there'll be some games early
on that may be a conflict with LCA playing on Saturdays.
But I mean, you guys, you'll get to join the
guys again.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
I can't wait. Obviously, the first thing which is sad
is Freddie won't be with us anymore on the show,
so gonna that's gonna suck. I loved sitting next to
Freddie and seeing these little notes before the game and
maybe stealing half of them and jumping in with the
stats before he could. But no, that's gonna be him
the best, absolutely absolutely Hopefully I'll see him soon. But

(05:48):
everything else is going to be great. It's gonna be
great to be back with the guys and talking some football,
and I'm really excited for this year. I think we've
got big things ahead. The coaching staff seems to be
keeping a bit of a lid on it, which is
normally a good yeah. So if we can stay healthy,
I think we're going to have a very good year
and it's gonna be really fun.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
We'll get to Kentucky football in just a second. I'd
love to hear a little bit about your relationship with Stoops,
because you're always dogging on the guy a little bit,
maybe more so than a fresh incoming freshman can. But
yesterday on KSR was unpopular opinion day in Max, I'd
like to hear one from you. I'll give you a
second to think about it, but I believe Ryan said
yesterday he's not a fan of sugar based candies, So

(06:26):
I think a dagger to the heart of Matt that
eats Nerd gummies and Skittles every single day of his life.
Matt talked a lot about UK football and I kind
of want to go in that direction too when it
comes to football, Max, I don't know about you feel,
but I love noon kickoffs. Maybe a little selfish. You're
not gonna be able to tailgate, maybe as long as
you'd like, not an all day thing, but a noon
kickoff allows you to get the game out of the

(06:47):
way and still have a night to yourself, whether you
be working on the broadcast me. Maybe you're a player,
you can still go out afterwards. You're a fan and
you can still do something later in the day. I'm
okay for getting up a little bit earlier to have
the rest of my evening. Call it selfish For me,
I love noon kickoffs. Is there a different perspective from
the player's side of that.

Speaker 2 (07:09):
I think. I think it depends on what role you're
doing on game day, Like you said, with your role
and with what we do with the pregame show, I
couldn't agree more like, it's good to get it out
of the way and then you can finish the game
and then you can go watch more football and you
get to watch somewhereas when maybe you're doing the pregame
show for a night game, you're missing all those games
for your right. But when I was playing one hundred

(07:31):
percent night games because you get we well, I used
to joke, you get the double sleep, so you get
to sleep, then you get to go eat, then you
go back to sleep. I wasn't very nervous before games,
so I could sleep really easy. So we would go
eat and then I'd get the double sleep in. It
would make me feel really good.

Speaker 1 (07:45):
Ryan's the expert of the nap in the middle of
the day. Yeah, I like to hear the football players
are getting two sleeps in before a big night game.

Speaker 2 (07:52):
That was always key. That was always key. And I
love night games obviously, just because of the atmosphere and
there's always you know, a little bit more drinking going
on before the games at night game, so normally the
crowd's a little bit more ramped up. I love those
ones that kind of started just as the sun was setting. Yeah,
I thought they just set the tone for a good
football game.

Speaker 1 (08:09):
Yeah, nothing like that picturesque kickoff with the sun setting
and then you get into that second and third quarter
and it's turning into night and the lights are coming on,
and that's why it's an unpopular opinion. But noon kickoffs
for me or something that I like. Is there anything
that comes to mind for you, maybe an unpopular opinion
you'd share.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
No, I did get a text during that. I don't
know if this person thought I was on. I thought
I was on the main show. But I got a
text from a lady in Austin saying that her unpopular
opinion was that she thinks Matt should quit KSR and
make their relationship serious down in Austin. So I don't
know where that came from. But I didn't get that

(08:44):
one on the air.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
But but no, nothing for me.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
I thought it was kind of funny that Matt said
it was sugar candy and chocolate candy, as if chocolate
doesn't have sugar in it. That was kind of funny.
I don't know if Matt realizes that there's sugar and chocolate.
But no, no unpopular opinions for me, except maybe that
Australia is a bit of country than America.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
That's always getting How about your The NBA and NFL
champs aren't world champs.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
I'm I'm on Lyles's side there. They call themselves world
champs and they ain't World champs. They're just playing against
each other.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Well they are. I mean, all the best players in
the world come to this one league to play, and
I would say that's their World champs.

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Fair enough for NBA. I don't know about NFL. No
one else plays.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
There are a lot more NFL. Well, I guess you
have the Canadian Football League Australian rules football, which is
a little bit different. Flag football is going to be
in the next Olympics in twenty twenty eight, along with cricket.
Are you a big cricket fan?

Speaker 2 (09:38):
I am in Australia, massive cricket fan, per scorches.

Speaker 1 (09:41):
I can't figure out that sport. I don't know what
they're doing. They're hitting wickets, yeah, three running back and forth,
three different formats.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
And I always say the craziest thing about cricket is
you could have a five day game and it could
still end in a draw.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
See days for a draw. That's like soccer to the extreme.
You watch ninety minutes, you don't get any goals. But
cricket you go five days and still get a draw.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Yeah, you could still have a drill. So I can
understand how people think it's boring, but I really like cricket.
Well eight five nine two two two eight seven.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
That's the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line, or Texas at
five o two two six five six six five six,
kind of the same thing we did with cash. If
you have any questions for Max about UK football or
really anything, just give us a call or text and
we will get you on the line. I do want
to talk a little bit about football, because man, we're
but seventeen days away from the season getting started, and
you are somebody that had a really close relationship with Stoops.

(10:30):
Do you still talk with him now?

Speaker 2 (10:31):
Every now and then. I had to give him a
little call in the off season and tell him that
they might be out again. An upgrade at Punta Yeah,
a little punter health. Yeah, found found someone. I know
people aren't super interested in that, but it should help
the team a little bit this year. He's looking really
good apparently, But you know, both pretty busy guys now
that we're coaching, so not as much as I used
to unfortunately, but every now and then.

Speaker 1 (10:54):
You're also somebody that did the Australian style punting, and
we're a big part of bringing that to the state.
It's that kind of like you kind of move on
the run, right, and it's very different from a traditional
American punter that will just stand there and then and
punt off. You do you promote that as the best
and most effective way of punting, Like, is that the
evolution of the sport is the Australian rules punning? And

(11:15):
do you see people do the regular punting and you're
saying that you're giving yourself a disadvantage not doing the
Australian way.

Speaker 2 (11:21):
I don't know if you're setting me up for the
UK scheme that's been in place last year, but no, absolutely.
I mean there's a reason why probably eighty percent of
college football programs now have an Australian as their starting punter.
It's definitely the way to go. I think it's probably
what nine or my stats aren't exactly correct, but nine
of the last ten or eleven Ray Guy Award winners

(11:43):
have been Australian. So, I mean stat suggests that that
is the way to go. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the
coordinator here has decided that that's not the way to go.
But you know, to each their own, I think it
is definitely the way to go. I think you find
most Australians are going to be in the top twenty.
You know, if there's a top twenty for punting, probably
sixteen to seventeen of them are Australian.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
So does it give you more time to punt when
you do that? Is you have more momentum when you punt.
Are those some of the advantages that you get when
you do that?

Speaker 2 (12:11):
You can buy time, You've got more accuracy, you can
place the ball better, you can run different schemes, you
can have different launch points. It's very technical and you
get into it. I could talk to it for about
two hours, but in short, it just to me, it
just gives you more options.

Speaker 1 (12:27):
It also can lead to a fake punt every now
and then that maybe you wouldn't have in the traditional sense.
I know, maybe one of your highlights is that was
that the fake punt in Missouri. Was that what it was?

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Yeah, yeah, certainly so. I mean, yeah, it just allows
you to get out of the pocket, have a bit
of a look around, and take your time. And no,
it's it's effective when done properly.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Is that one of the players you think about when
you think about your career at Kentucky? I was, I
was doing a little research on yourself before the show today,
and you had a what is a seventy three yard punt?
It was the third longest seventy five At Auburn, it
was the third longest punt in school history and longest
a year career. Is that and the fake? Some of
the plays that you remember from your career or is

(13:04):
it more like locker room and relationships with guys?

Speaker 3 (13:06):
Now?

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Probably the three plays that I remember the best would
be when I got tackled at Auburn and didn't get
the first down, when I kicked it sideways against Missouri,
and when I kicked it sideways against Georgia. They're probably
the ones that I remember the moment.

Speaker 1 (13:16):
No, Max, No, It's funny. That's the human nature of
you know, you could get a hundred compliments where you
get one negative remark and you think of that negative.

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Or absolutely absolutely, you always remember when you let the
team down a little bit, but I kind of saw
the light side of it. Always have a little chuckle
as I'm walking off because I know I didn't mean
to do it, but it is kind of funny. It's
the thing that gets brought up the most, probably is
your mistakes rather than your highlights. But no, I mean everything,
the relationships with coaches, and I always say that about Stoops,

(13:46):
his ability to hire great staff and just you know,
Matt talked about it the other day when I was on,
But like his ability to hire good staff and then
them not have guys want to leave NIL is the
biggest compliment I think of all We've maybe had one
person leaving Rogers, and whether he was super necessary, I'm

(14:09):
not sure. But you think about the big walkouts at
like A and m LSU, like there's been bigger programs
than us have had massive exodus and we've been able
to keep all our guys. It says more than people
give it credit for. And we've been able to attract
talent too, with probably a limited NIL budget compared to others.
To me, it just says so much about Stoops. Brad White.

(14:32):
Obviously new OC is probably going to have a big
impact on that. But all the guys that he surrounds
that program with, and most guys have gone on to
bigger and better things too, like Clinkstles now at the Charges.
But he was probably the coach of the best position
group in all of college football last year at Michigan
coach in the corners. Obviously, some roles gone on to
big things. So I think, you know, that's the ultimate compliment,

(14:53):
and that's what I enjoyed. Just great people. Obviously, he
brought back Dean Hood. I think Dean Hood's best. So
he's brought back. He's brought in good people, makes it great,
makes the players better people, and then everyone enjoys that time.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
Well, you hear people say you become the combination of
the people that you put around yourself, and you know,
football team, you've got a ton of people that you
have to put around you. And you're right. He's put
himself with assistants and players that buy into the program,
and you see them flourish that way. Another thing that
I've heard is that you shouldn't talk about your significant

(15:27):
other badly behind their back. I mean, that's just something
that you shouldn't do. And it may have been the
same conversation that you had with Matt where you guys
were talking about you know, assistant coaches and players aren't
talking about this guy's not doing his job. He needs
to get out of here. Everybody's on the same page.
And when there's not that negative talk behind the scenes,
then you guys can all have the same goal. You
know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (15:46):
There, absolutely, and if you are who you surround yourself with,
I don't know who else on the staff is bold
like Stoops, So I'm not sure who he's been surrounding
himself off the field, but no, absolutely, they everyone speaks positively.
Everyone's having a good time there. There's not a whole
lot of rules, which I've said that before. There's not
a whole lot of rules at Kentucky, which sounds surprising.

(16:07):
But the more rules you have, the more rules you
can break. And everyone has a great time. I think
the effort is shown on the field that guys want
to buy in and really compete, and hopefully that will
lay to some wins this year.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
It's a tough schedule this year, it is, and when
we'll get into it a little bit eight five nine
two two two eight seven. Former Kentucky punter Max Duffy
is on the show this morning. If you have a question,
you can also Texas five oh two two six five
six six five six. This is a Thursday edition of
the KSR Pre Show, Live from Chos Bar and Grill,
an empty ks Bar and Grill. It won't be very soon,
We'll be right back, all right, welcome back. It is

(16:41):
the show before the show, the KSR Pre Show. Billy
Rutledge joined by our special guest Max Duffy. Today, the
former All American. Any questions for him, you can Texas
call in or Texas five oh two two six five
six six five six is the text line. Uh, people
want to know some stuff about you, Max, So we'll
get into that in just a second. But one person
also asked for an update on the Ford f one

(17:02):
fifty story that I gave the other day. I don't
know if you heard this, Max, No, but I've had
a big truck parking in front of my house over
the last couple of days. Okay, you know, street parking
is just it's free. It's free game. You know, anybody
can park there. But Max, I refuse to clean my
garage and one of our cars is taking up the driveway.
So normally one of the cars parks in front of
the house. Hard to do when this big Ford F

(17:24):
one fifty is parked there the entire time. It's gotten
a little bit better. It made a reappearance yesterday, but
after that when I said it on the show, it
was gone. So we quickly took that spot and we
were able to have it. But yesterday it came back
and it left again. So it's it's obviously not like
a handyman, but somebody that maybe like a son or
daughter of somebody that lives around the area. What would

(17:45):
you do if there was a big truck in front
of your house and you wanted to move it away.

Speaker 2 (17:49):
The first thing I'd do is probably claim my garage.
That would be number one.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
You can't do that.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
He kind of did that. I might put up a
fake sign and start charging them.

Speaker 1 (17:59):
I like that, Yeah, like a no parking?

Speaker 2 (18:01):
Yeah, well like it, maybe just a ticketing, like a
pay five dollars per and just come up with a
little little coin machine, stall a meter in my yard
exactly exactly that's what they're doing. The meter.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
I absolutely loved that people were saying, like, leave a note,
and you know, I think that's probably the best way.
Others were saying, call the police. I'm not calling the police.
I think that would a little soft move exactly. It's
street parking.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Could put a witch's hat out? Maybe just leave the
witch's hat right there and just move it every time
you come back.

Speaker 1 (18:30):
Or cone? Yeah, we just put something in the streets
so they can't park there. How bold would they.

Speaker 2 (18:35):
Get the Australian saying witch's hat? Do you guys know
the witch's hat?

Speaker 1 (18:37):
Is that what a cone is?

Speaker 2 (18:38):
Yeah? Yeah, no the orange cone.

Speaker 1 (18:40):
No, we don't call I know you called parking lots,
car parks, cop box.

Speaker 2 (18:45):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
Is there any other culture shot?

Speaker 2 (18:48):
There's plenty. I didn't know you guys didn't say witch's hat.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
So there you go, little Australia twang for you. Let
me give you an Australian story. I told you that
we'd be talking about Australia a little bit. This one
isn't a headline, but it's been something that's been talked
about a lot. Is that break dancing will not return
to the twenty twenty eight Olympics, and primarily because of
the Australia's performance. Did you happen to see that?

Speaker 2 (19:08):
Yeah, not our strong suit, not claiming it at all.
Definitely would want to check her citizenship. I'm not sure
she's affiliated with it Firth certificate. I would like your
formal apology to the whole country of Australia after that,
because it's all I've heard about for the last few
weeks and she's not only disappointed and embarrassed herself, but
she's embarrassed the whole country. And it was very tough

(19:31):
to watch. We were claiming that we were the best,
and I still am claiming we're the best per capita
country in the world in terms of the Olympics. You know,
if you made our population and put it to America's population,
we smoked yous in gold. But she kind of brought
us back to the pack and we were like, well,
we got nothing to brag about it.

Speaker 1 (19:50):
Yeah, she kind of brought you down a little bit.
I know you were puffing your chest out about the
gold medal count for a little bit. Now we warped
the way that we were showing the metal count. We
weren't leading in the but hey, Max, throw another shrimp
on the barbie. Get in on all the UFC three
oh five action live from the Land down Under at
Draft Kings Sportsbook, the official sports betting partner of the USA.

(20:11):
You're excited for this, right, aren't you?

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Perth, Wanta City, Wanta City, probably the greatest city in
the world. Got caught a slow baits. You've got King's Park,
You've got Riic Arena where they're having the USA. It's
gonna be a great time.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
The cart is stacked full of Ripsnorterer blokes in Sheila's Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
Absolutely. I don't know why we didn't do our KSI
road trip to to watch the UFA that debate.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
Also, well, may I had to get on a plane,
maybe maybe train, maybe a rental car hopefully not stick.
But if you sign up with the Drafting Sports Book
and use code KSR, new cuspers can get one hundred

person asked, what is your favorite thing about the state
of Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (21:07):
I would say if you just got it for a week,
it'd be that you get all four seasons, like that's great,
Like summer you do get for obviously spring fall, and
then you get snow. It's a unique kind of area
that you get all four seasons. But I just wish
winter went a little less than it did because I
don't love the cold. But that's probably my favorite thing.
Obviously the sports and that UK is the biggest thing

(21:30):
in town, and just you know how friendly everyone is
and how people rally around the sports. That's probably my
favorite thing unique.

Speaker 1 (21:37):
That's what it makes Kentucky unique for me. No pro
sports teams there really is an allegiance to the college teams.
So in Australia, is it just hot all the time?
Like just summer?

Speaker 2 (21:47):
Yeah, it's hard all the time. It's hard all the time.
It's gonna be, you know a little cooler for the
people going to UFC. I think it's raining right now.
My dad called me and said it was pouring down today.
He's actually not happy. He lives on the same straight
as where the UFA is being held. He was in
the middle of the city. In his words, he said,
I don't like it when the USA comes to town

(22:08):
because we get a bunch of widows walking around. And
I said, what does that mean? And he said, I
don't know. They're just weird. The people that like UFA.
Oh okay, I said, I like it.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Yeah, yeah, a lot a lot of people love the UFC.

Speaker 2 (22:19):
But maybe a few.

Speaker 1 (22:20):
More cauliflower ears come by the house, maybe down that time.
Just a couple of witches hats out there to help
the parking situation.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
That's what he mats today. That's what he makes today.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
All right, we'll take a break to take some more
more of your questions with Max Duffy. Next here on
the ksrpre Show, Welcome back. This is the ks R
pre Show Billy Rutledge and Max Duffy, the Ray Guy
Award winner eight five nine two two two eight seven.
That's the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line. Give us a
text as well. We've been answering some questions on the

(22:49):
text line, including many people asking for the return of
the Pennant Deep podcast. I know that's still up in
the air, right Maybe one of these days, Max.

Speaker 2 (22:56):
Yeah, hoping. So I'm really hoping to bring it back.
We're in on track negotiations right now and they're talking
all through it. I'm getting my lawyers and my people
to talk to their people and we'll see how we go.
I'd really like to I'd be excited to talk some
football again. We just need some people to jump on board.
So if Draft Kings want a real Australian to read
their ads, then maybe they jump on board and give

(23:17):
us a little bit of money to do it.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
Yesterday we talked about a story that the Texas A
and m Athletic Department reported that they took in over
nineteen million dollars for nil money. I mean, you just
missed out on that nil era, Max, But you are
going to get paid a little, right, I mean, if
the lawsuit goes through and everything, maybe you get a
little extra cash. But you missed out on a.

Speaker 2 (23:34):
Ton of it. I don't know if I missed out.
The guys like cash definitely missed out. They would have
made a killing if we had Ani.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
Are you at the beginning of the nil ARAA.

Speaker 2 (23:42):
Yeah, I was twenty eighteen. No, I missed it completely.
You missed it completely, Okay, So so I mean, yeah, again,
I don't know if I would have gone much.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
Well, well it wasn't you. Weren't Jack Gibbons out there that,
you know, dropping forty national championship games. But you, I mean,
first team All American. We could have got you with
a card company in town Own or something like that.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Yeah, maybe maybe I could have done what's that? What's
the the part cold in Kentucky where they have the kangaroos.
Maybe they would have given me a bit.

Speaker 1 (24:08):
They've got a park with kangaroos.

Speaker 2 (24:10):
Yeah, what's it called? Uh, out back Kentucky. I don't
know what it's called. There's something I don't know. I've
never been there, Kentucky down under the kangaroos there, Yeah
they do. So I've never actually been out that way,
but people always ask me if I have. So maybe
they would have thrown me a couple of bucks in
a free kangaroo or something.

Speaker 1 (24:25):
Now are they just walking around out in Australia do
you see them a lot? Or is that just kind
of like.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
They're just like Dia like what they're like. Yeah, so
they're not in the cities. But if you get out
a little bit, you'll say something yeah.

Speaker 1 (24:35):
It Well, you know the stupid conversation of like I'm
gonna box a kangaroo.

Speaker 2 (24:38):
No you're not. No, you're not.

Speaker 1 (24:39):
You're gonna get your ass handed.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Yeah, you'll get bat up, you get beat up, So
good luck.

Speaker 1 (24:44):
You know somebody else that I would not want to
fight is Pat McAfee. You had a little bit of
a spit with him. What did you say at the U.
I had to write this down. A typical American understanding
of punting is what you tweeted at him. Yeah, he
had so much harsher words for you on his show.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
He did he back a little harder, But that's all right.
Pat doesn't get disagreed with very much. He's got a
bunch of dudes on his show that just say yes
and how high and all that when he says jump.
So that's that was his take. I had my take,
and we just agree to disagree.

Speaker 1 (25:15):
Well, that was that was something a couple of years ago.
When that happened, you made making the rounds on ESPN.
It it was that butt punt that NFL punter had
where he put it run it to the guy, But
you were saying that he needed to adjust like an
Australian punter would where you're kind of on the run
a little bit, right.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Yeah. He always says that punters are supposed to be
athletes and all that kind of stuff and for the
brand and all that. But for the brand would mean
give us, give us a little bit more credit. Then
we just do our job, you know, give us some
credit that we can make some moves and run around.
You see Michael Dixon in the NFL. He makes moves,
gets first downs, those kinds of things, and Pat unfortunately
was stuck in his day where the punters weren't as good.

(25:51):
He didn't have any Australian competition and that's why guys
like him got to play.

Speaker 1 (25:55):
Tell me about the difference a good special teams coach
can make. I know we've talked a little bit about
UK not adapting to Australian punters recently, but just overall
in general, how you know, that's one of the third
phases of the game, as special teams. How much of
a difference can a good special teams coordinator make compared
to just maybe an average one.

Speaker 2 (26:12):
Yeah? Absolutely, I mean I think when coachud was here.
We went from I remember he told me some stat
one time, was just talking about how to develop special teams.
Now that that's what I'm trying to do. And I
think we went from you know, twelfth in almost every
area in the SEC to maybe minimum top five I
think in all four so kickoff, kickoff return, punt, punt return,

(26:33):
so makes a big difference. Obviously, everyone always goes, oh,
it's an underrated stat, hidden yardage, but within the four
walls of football teams, like everyone knows, it's a massive stat.
The percentage chances of you scoring from certain parts of
the field change. And I think, you know, obviously Brad
White would probably be the first one to tell you
his favorite player is the punter, Like he wants someone
to be able to get the field positions and his

(26:55):
defense has got more time.

Speaker 1 (26:57):
Well, he stoops has a popular saying make routine or
make the is it the extraordinary looke routine? Or make
the great players look routine? One of those sayings making
it look routine.

Speaker 2 (27:07):
He has a lot of saying probably Raley swirling the
coffee cup, and he's saying too.

Speaker 1 (27:12):
And at times, you know, there's been long snapping issues
with Kentucky. There's been kicking issues. You know, you take
for granted. I think good special teams play a lot
of times in college.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
Football, absolutely, and it should be routine sec football. It
should be And to me, if it's not, you've either
haven't recruited well or the coaching isn't good enough and
getting guys to hold to a standard. So it hasn't
been good enough for a little while. I think, you know,
when coach had departed. Unfortunately it's gone a little bit downhill.
But he's back in the building now, so I don't
know what kind of impact he's having. Maybe none, but

(27:42):
I know he's having a great impact with the guys
when they're off field stuff.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
And we know you're having an impact at LCA teaching
the youth now, it's a little bit different than being
at Murray State, right.

Speaker 2 (27:51):
Yeah, there's a little bit. Hopefully the special teams goes
okay at ELCA. I know it's a little bit less
at high school level. I heard they had about twelve
total punts last year. Our offense is pretty dynamic, so
any any way I can help us have an advantage,
We'll see.

Speaker 1 (28:05):
There was a coach a high school coach in Texas
that was famous for never punting and never kicking off,
always doing on side kicks. Do you look at something
like that is pretty foolish.

Speaker 2 (28:14):
Yeah. No, I've always joked that, like the best thing
to do would be a special teams coordinator that goes
for it on fourth down, like uh, leaves their defense
out on punt return, on side kicks, and on kickoff return.
We're just get a fair catch and then your job's
the easiest job in the world.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
That's right. It's so kind of like the backup quarterback.
As long as that first guy didn't get hurt, you're
just holding that clipboard, just buying your time. Max. What
was the last wedding that you went to.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
I have been to literally one wedding in my entire life.
Thirty one. I missed two. My brothers had two weddings.
I haven't been to either, so I told him, hey,
you divorced this one, we'll we go third time lucky.
But I've been to one wedding.

Speaker 1 (28:55):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (28:55):
Okay.

Speaker 1 (28:56):
We talked about a story yesterday that there's a man
charging people four hundred and six dollars to attend his wedding, which,
by the way, like I think ninety nine percent of
the people invited that wedding declined because you were nothing special, right,
this is your day, not mine. I'm not gonna find
nine hundred dollars to bring my significant other with me
for your wedding, but I wanted to give you a
fair or foul. We do this a lot on the

(29:16):
ksrpre show about skipping a wedding for a sports game.
You've got a big UKU of L game coming up,
you plan and to tailgate with the boys. You got
everything in place, you bought the tickets early in the year.
You've been waiting for this. But maybe your cousin's getting married,
it's a relative, a family member. Is it ever okay
to skip a wedding for any sort of sporting event.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
I think it's fair to skip a wedding if the
person doesn't have enough awareness to know that it's UKU
of L on that weekend. You've got to think forward
and go, hey, this is gonna be a UK Louisville game.
Maybe I shouldn't put my wedding on that weekend. Because
to me, people get married every day, you know, fifty
percent chance of it actually working out, whereas UK one
hundred percent chance of winning, so I know which one

(30:00):
I'm going with.

Speaker 1 (30:01):
So it's selfish of anybody to schedule a wedding on
a day of UK football game or just a Saturday
during college football, because one it's gonna be tough for
me to attend because I work every Saturday. I would
have a hard time skipping it if it was like
a sibling or a relative. But I am going to
go fair if it isn't if it's just a buddy,
it's a friend, you do have a job, or maybe

(30:23):
it's a big slate of games. You know, I don't
think it's necessary to be at somebody's wedding to keep
your friendship alive.

Speaker 2 (30:29):
I don't think that's like a you know, no, And
then you get the whole like, oh, well we'll put
the game on at the wedding, and then it's like, well,
what's really the main attraction?

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Then?

Speaker 2 (30:37):
Are we going for the game or are we going
for the wedding.

Speaker 1 (30:40):
Well, if I'm there on a Saturday, you know I've
got the phone right here.

Speaker 2 (30:44):
Well, the and that's what happens when you put your
wedding on a big game day is everyone just ends
up watching their phones instead. Of actually watching the proceedings.
So unless you make it short and sweet. You say, hey, guys,
we're going to get this wrapped up before the game starts.
You know it's gonna be two minute little thing. We'll
both say yes, we'll see how it goes, and then
we'll go to the game.

Speaker 1 (31:02):
Yeah, you incorporate the game into the wedding. I'm gonna begate.
Could be the reception, Okay, I like, I like where
your head's where head's at. I got another piece of
Australian news for you. If you're for this, here we go.
After numerous complaint hold hold on, here we go. Sorry,
I've lost my.

Speaker 2 (31:21):
Did you see the guy? I've got one point. Did
you see the Chinese meal? Succulent Chinese meal? Guy passed away?
Have you seen that video? The guy that gets kicked
out of the restaurant, So people would have seen this,
I'm sure. And he says, what is the charge? What
is the charge? He's getting pulled out? Basically a succulent
Chinese meal. You've never seen this, I haven't seen hilarious.
You got to watch it. It's one of the most
viral videos of all time. Well, he passed away, which

(31:43):
is a very sad day. Yeah, yeah, Australian legend. I
thought you might have seen that.

Speaker 1 (31:48):
I got to look it up in the break I
found my place. Here's my Australian bit of news for you.
Thank you for the buying me a little time there.
On Tuesday, the city of Melbourne, after hundreds of complaints
and accidents, decided to electric scooters from the city.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
Wow. I know there's a few cities that have done
that around the States. I think they're pretty dangerous.

Speaker 1 (32:07):
I've seen some people really wipe out on those things. Yeah,
and maybe you have a couple of drinks at the bar.
These things are just lying everywhere you pick it up,
and I think they turn them off dangerous.

Speaker 2 (32:17):
They turn them off in Nashville at like eight pm
or something, just because because of those reasons exactly.

Speaker 1 (32:22):
Yeah, you should never drink and drive or drinking scooter
because you can absolutely lead to a tragedy.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Yeah. No, I think they'd have the same issue in Melbourne. Melbourne,
by the way, not Melbourne. Oh no, there you go.
That is that a popular screw up? Like people say
Brisbane it's Brisbane Brisbane? Yeah, any other any other ones
that we commonly get wrong? Or maybe cringe as an
Australian uh Kiarens Karens. I think people say, Karens. It's

(32:49):
like cans.

Speaker 1 (32:50):
Cans.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Yeah, that's what it see a I I N s
but it's cans.

Speaker 1 (32:55):
Hmm. Okay, well that's that. We can get on the
same page with that one. That's not too bad.

Speaker 2 (33:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Eighty nine two eight h two two eight seven Texas
at five o two two six five six six five six.
One person says on the text line, did do you
remember the funniest player on the team while you were there?

Speaker 2 (33:10):
Besides myself?

Speaker 1 (33:12):
It had to be you, right, cracking the jokes.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
No, no, no, funniest on the team depends what you
laugh at. I used to love boss Man Fat. He
used to say some funny things and entertain everyone. I
love the video of him talking about how he's going
to be the best. A lot of time in our
hands to Yeah, you gotta pass the time a little bit, right, absolutely, absolutely,

(33:37):
I don't know there were I mean football is pretty
serious sport. A lot of guys that take themselves a
little bit too seriously on the team, so more so
laughing at them rather than with them most of the time.
But no, everyone was pretty good. I'd say the specialist
with the funniest.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
He's Max Stuffy. I'm Billy Rutler. This is the show
before the show, the Case Our Appreciate. We'll take our
final break, come back and wrap this thing up here
on the Case Our Appreciate. Welcome back. It is the Case,
our pre show for our final segment with Max Duffy,
the former punter at the University of Kentucky, famous Australian
in the city of Lexington. Just showed me that video,
that famous Australian that passed away to the succulent Chinese

(34:13):
food while he's getting put in a headlocked by the police.
I can't believe I hadn't seen that video.

I can't believe you hadn't.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Very sad time, a legendary video. I see you brought

(35:33):
a couple of people on the line. So let's take
some phone calls. Let's start with Mark Anthony, Good morning, Mark,
how are you hey? Billy?

Speaker 3 (35:39):
Hey? Max? Hey Max.

Speaker 4 (35:40):
I'm glad to hear you back available on the radio. Sometimes.

Speaker 5 (35:43):
I always good to hear you boys.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Appreciate it. Now.

Speaker 3 (35:46):
I'm a fellow who's interested in ancestry and have done
my own sort of thing. And as I hear you,
I wonder you're an Australian morning raise right, yes, and
from a from a line of a billions born and raised.

Speaker 2 (36:01):
Correct, My mom's side is Italian, my dad's side's Irish.
But I think they came over. My dad's side might
have come over with the rest of the convicts.

Speaker 4 (36:12):
Exactly exactly what I was wanted, being as you're a
man of the Caucasian persuasion in Australia, born and raised.
And since that the British Empire used to take the
convicts and set them all. Do you know who your
original convict was?

Speaker 2 (36:29):
I did not know who my original convict was. I
don't know.

Speaker 1 (36:32):
I didn't even know the convicts. That was the place
for convict.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
Yeah, they got all the convicts from Britain and dropped
them off in Australia. So I'm a pretty dangerous man.
I come from a pretty dangerous heritage, so don't mess
with me. Oh this explains a lot, I think, Mark,
what do you think?

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Well, I just you know, there had to be a
reason he was a badass, and I figured it was
he was in his bootlands, so I just wanted a
batter Max.

Speaker 4 (36:54):
I followed my I followed my land.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
My dad and I both did at one time ourselves
back to the house of one of the king George's. However,
the reason we didn't get.

Speaker 4 (37:06):
Any of the crowns, you cook, we was will dang.

Speaker 3 (37:11):
We was from a.

Speaker 4 (37:13):
Bastard child of one of the king Torches.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
And so therefore, instead of being put off in Australia,
they sent us to the stage.

Speaker 1 (37:20):
So yeah, that's all right.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
John Snow still became the king of Western Ice, didn't this?
Maybe you got a chance.

Speaker 1 (37:27):
Bravo a Game of Thrones reference, so Shannon would cringe
at us. I absolutely love it. Mark, we got a
couple of calls, so we'll let you go. Thank you
for the call. We got Mark Anthony's lineage. There. I
just learned that all the convicts from Great Britain were
just released into Australia.

Speaker 2 (37:41):
Duffy Family closely related to the Peaky Blinds.

Speaker 1 (37:45):
It's a small world, do do. Let's take another called
Sam is on the line. Good morning Sam, what's up?

Speaker 5 (37:50):
Hey, guys, Max goo to hear you. I hope you
don't pay attention to the negatives too much. I just
wanted to point out one of my favorite moments from
you was you guys played MP State in the Gator
Bowl and he kind of hit that guy with the
dummy move back in the AFL days. He kind of
referred to you went off to the sideline because you

(38:10):
were a little nervous that he did a bad job.
But you know, the guys were going crazy and you
thought it was going to be a top ten. So
that was one of my favorite moments.

Speaker 4 (38:20):
Man.

Speaker 2 (38:21):
Yeah, that was actually pretty cool actually be on the
ESPN Top ten. We call it selling candy in Australia,
and that guy that bought everything that I sold still
owes me a lot of money for that one.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
All right, thank you, Sam. I appreciate the call. One
person asks, is it still called takeaway instead of takeout?

Speaker 2 (38:38):
It is? It's called takeaway food? Yeah, I've learned to
say things very American since I've been here for six
and a bit years now. But yeah, every now and
then I get reminded.

Speaker 1 (38:46):
Of how long it's been now six six years and changed.

Speaker 2 (38:48):
Yeah, I've been here for a long time. I didn't
get to go home for about four years too, So
I'm two americanized. I need to get back to Australia.
Maybe I need to go to the UFCA this weekend
and get back there.

Speaker 1 (38:57):
That's right, a little shrimp on the barbie. We'll talk
about that in just a second. I do have one
more Australian news note from from the headline section. Did
you know that Australia is often dubbed as the allergy
capital of the world.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Did not?

Speaker 1 (39:08):
One in ten infants are diagnosed with food sensitivities. They're
starting a new state of the art program that helps
infants with peanut allergies under the age of twelve months.

Speaker 2 (39:17):
Hey, I just thought it would be allergic to every
other country in the world saying is you're all below us?
So I thought it might be one of those things.
Let's get the listen to this guy talking like a
tried say, I've become to America. Now I'm getting too
patriotic and thinking my country's better than everyone else's. I
need to get back to being in os humble Australia.

Speaker 1 (39:35):
Well, I don't know if you know what's happening in Australia,
but UFC three oh five is going to be there.
It's a great time with our betting partners at Draft Kings.
The middleweight title is on the line for the main event,
but the card is stacked full of rip snorterer blokes
and Sheila's. What would you say those two things.

Speaker 2 (39:53):
Are blokes and Sheila's men and women. Oh just simply
and commonly referred to as blokes and Sheila is in
the correct time? Okay?

Speaker 1 (40:00):
Well, money lines, parlays, props, live bets and so much more.
The betting options feel endless on DraftKings. And if you
download the DraftKings sportsbook at now and use code KSR,
that's code KSR for News customers to get one hundred
and fifty dollars in bonus bets when you bet just
five dollars UFC three h five, it's gonna be a
ripper of a good time.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
It is. It's gonna be awesome. Hopefully they get out
and see the Fremantle Football Club, my old football club,
take on GWS this weekend and get a w.

Speaker 1 (40:24):
The crown is yours gambling problem called one hundred Gambler
eighteen plus Kentucky only. Bonus bets expire one hundred and
sixty eight hours after issuance. Deposit and eligibility restrictions apply.
Turns at DKNG dot co slash MMA. So Max, what's
what's on the docket today? You're gonna go practice with
LC a little later.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
Tooah, we go practice later this afternoon. Last scrimmage tomorrow
and then we're straighting the games. We got Boyle County
down and down west Western Kentucky. And that's about it.
And that's coming up quick, it is, it's coming up quick.
I'm actually looking forward to getting back into some football
in the season. It'll be really exciting see how many
any games we can win. You know, obviously, maybe taking

(41:03):
a little downhill after the alleged incidents that Matt Jones
brings up. We've kind of you know, cleaned out record
and we're all good now that I'm involved, So maybe
a slight turn downhill. You know. Frederick Douglas obviously expected
to win a lot of games this year after their
recruiting violations. This season will be voided, much like the
