five nine two eighth two two eight seven be our
whiskey Thief call of the day. You can also text

five six, and it is always The KSR pre Show
(00:22):
is brought to you by ital X Fine Italian Dining
right here in Lexington, Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Shannon the Dude is in Louisville. What's up?
Speaker 3 (00:30):
Man?
Speaker 4 (00:30):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (00:31):
Anybody? How was your weekend? Everything good? Did you have?
Speaker 1 (00:34):
Folly was fine? Yeah, big super Bowl last night. I'm
sure that you watched at your super secret super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (00:41):
All he did it was great. I had a port chop,
Billy the size of my head. I'd never had such
a big port chop in my life, and it was
It was a lot of fun. But you know, normally
the day after the Super Bowl, I wake up, I'm
all groggy, I'm tired. The good thing is the game
over the game was over at halftime last night so really,
I I got to bed a little bit early before
(01:02):
the game was even Oh you went to sleep before
the game. The game was over at halftime? What was it?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
Wow?
Speaker 1 (01:07):
What was the score halftime? Twenty four to nothing or halftime?
I think it was twenty four to nothing. It got
to thirty four to nothing in the third quarter before
the Eagles finally won forty to twenty two.
Speaker 5 (01:17):
Did you think that there was any chance for the
Chiefs to come back?
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Well, I kept telling the fiance.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
You know, Tom Brady came back down twenty eight to three,
so there's still a hope. But no, I mean, it
looked a lot like Tampa's went over Kansas City and
the Super Bowl a couple of years ago. The pass
defense and the pass rush were too much for the
Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes. But obviously that's not what the
Super Bowl is about, Shannon. It's when America comes together
with super secret Super Bowl parties and appetizers and commercials.
Speaker 2 (01:48):
Did you see any good commercials?
Speaker 5 (01:49):
And this is the only one that really stood out
to me was Seal, the musician Seal as a Seal
And I don't know even what they were advertising, but
to see the seal's head on an animal seal was
really bizarre, and I felt like at one point when
I was watching that that maybe I had accidentally overdosed
on gummies Again. Then I realized, No, this is an
(02:11):
actual spot. Uh, this is a real commercial. It did
look like a creature from hell. The seal as a seal.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
I believe that was Mountain Dew Baja blasts, which you know,
you know, Bullet County, I mean Mountain Dew.
Speaker 2 (02:24):
Shannon, come on, I mean, no wonder resonated with you.
Speaker 5 (02:26):
Well, I'm glad the message got across to you. It
certainly didn't for me.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
I guess I'll highlight a couple of the commercials that
I saw that I liked last night. Dude, how about
the Pringles commercial Everybody must hit their mustache just removed.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
And flew away.
Speaker 5 (02:40):
Yep, there was.
Speaker 1 (02:40):
It was kind of humorous. There was a Sidney sweeney
ad for Mayo where I couldn't. It was like Billy
Crystal and another woman and she had a taste of
the Mayo sandwich sandwich and she started really enjoying the
Mayo and Sidney Sweeny's like, I'll take whatever she's having.
Speaker 5 (02:55):
Nobody enjoys Mayo that much. By the way, I've refused
to the most blob bland condiment that ever existed.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I know, I know of your hate with Mayo, but
you put it on a good cheeseburger, You put it
on any sandwich with Deli meat, and it elevates the sandwich.
You're just wrong on that opinion, dude. They there was
one I don't know if it was an ad or what.
They just sang the country road song, the West Virginia
Country Road song, and then they like carried it over
to the stadium, which I thought was interesting. But again, Shannon,
don't know who that ad.
Speaker 5 (03:27):
I think it was Rocket. Was it like Rocket Mortgage?
I think I remember that because they go, here's a
wholesome moment from Rocket. I'm going, oh, okay, Well.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
They literally just bought the song like that was, you know, Shannon,
eight million dollars it costs for a thirty second ad
during the Super Bowl this year that has just gone.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
That is raising eight million dollars.
Speaker 5 (03:45):
There was another one that I saw at the very beginning.
Is it Leelo and Stitch? Yeah, that's okay movie, Okay, Well,
did you see that one at the very beginning.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Where that one Stitch was doing something.
Speaker 5 (03:56):
Stitch, which one's which one's the dog or the little
dog alien alien?
Speaker 2 (04:00):
Sitch?
Speaker 5 (04:00):
Okay, Stitch, I haven't Sorry, I haven't seen Leelo and Stitch,
but they showed I guess Stitch, this little alien looking
thing driving a golf cart on on the field and
we're watching it in Sarah Go's Is that happening right now?
Is that live?
Speaker 4 (04:16):
I go?
Speaker 5 (04:16):
Yes, an alien is actually on the field right now,
live in the middle of the Super Bowl. Like what
a dumb I was like, are you serious right now?
You really believe that there's that little thing driving a
golf cart like live? Huh? Sometimes I just got to go,
what do you are you?
Speaker 1 (04:33):
No, that's not Marshawn Lynch, Honey, that's not driving a
golf cart running people over at cow. That's a movie,
all right, ad for Lee Loo.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
And still there's actually a little dog looking thing driving
a car. Come on.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I I really did not enjoy the Fox broadcast, like
you know, they had like Tom Cruise come out and
Brad Pitt. Then they did stuff with John Hamm and
Bradley Cooper. It was like, do I need another actor
to get me ready? For this football game and then
the game starts. In the scoreboards, it looks like it
was made by an eight year old.
Speaker 5 (05:02):
You know what I'm talking about. It You didn't like it?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
No, I don't know what they were like, if they
were trying to go for the simple look, but because
they had no color behind the actual score like it
was like you could see.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Through or around score bug. It was bad. It was bad.
Speaker 5 (05:17):
It didn't really bother me that much. I guess I
really didn't even notice it, let me looking back up.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
But I will say, while there were a ton of
you know, uninspiring bad dunkin Donuts commercials with Ben a
Flack and Matt Damon and Jennifer Lopez, Yeah, I did
enjoy KSR Super Bowl commercial that played at the end
of the first quarter. I guess I guess you didn't
see it because you're in Louisville, sharing right.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, I ended up seeing it online.
Speaker 5 (05:40):
At least I did watch it.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (05:42):
I don't know what that was was with Matt throwing
up the l's up, Like what.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, Matt as a Louisville fan dressed in red gives
a little L one c four l's up. And then
Ryan proceeds to spit water into his mouth, which I
did the slow mo for it, Shannon, and it was
very accurate by Ryan Lemon. But yes, maybe something we
use on Matten in the future. Him throwing up the l's.
Speaker 5 (06:05):
Well, the thing was that I saw like you couldn't
even really see his face because he had his hand
blocking his face.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
Yeah, he was kind of like turned a little bit
to the side. Do you think that was.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
Maybe I should give him some money and some acting
lessons here, You gotta throw the l's up behind you
your face so you get your face time in there. Right.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
Well, you know he's in charge of that production at
that moment, right oh yeah, Like he's changing the script.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
He's telling him to do it again.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
That's what happened when we did our Super Bowl commercial
that all of us were in a couple of years ago. Right,
They had the script laid out. He's like, no, no, no,
why don't we do it like this. It's like, well,
they just had a whole team of writers write the
script and you're coming in and changing it, but well.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
It could be better.
Speaker 5 (06:44):
The thing was like, like there was one shot I
remember during that one, I'm talking about the one from
a couple of years ago where Matt stepped away to
get a phone call and the guys were like, all right,
let's let's get the shot right now while he's away,
let's go. Once they have the shot, they can do
whatever they want, right yeah, cause he's not going to
be standing over them while they edit this commercial. So
they got the shot that they wanted.
Speaker 1 (07:05):
UKFCU, you know, doing things that would never happen. I
guess it's Sasquatch narrating with Matt throwing up the l's
up or Kobe Braa throwing his basketball career away to
become an artist. So I did enjoy that, And if
you missed it, I know. Mario tweeted it out from
the show's account on Twitter. We also had the Kendrick
Lamar halftime show with a special appearance from Sizza. Serena
(07:26):
Williams was crip walking. Even Samuel L. Jackson dressed his
uncle Sam made an appearance. Shannon, give me your overall
rating on what you.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Thought of that?
Speaker 5 (07:35):
Not much. I didn't like it, didn't really understand it.
What was Samuel L. Jackson even doing out there? He
was going like, no, that's not good. Enough and then
he would do another song and.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
We know how to play the game, mister Lamar.
Speaker 5 (07:50):
I don't. I don't get it. Maybe I wasn't supposed
to get it, but it was a dud for me.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Well, he was like transitioning maybe from one song to
the next. I liked Samuel Jackson. I thought he was
funny in that type of role, and I like Kendrick
Lamar's music. You know, I try to cling on to
being young right now as a twenty nine year old,
I like to think that that that show was targeted
towards my generation, or maybe the one underneath me. So
I should have enjoyed it, but I just thought it
was boring.
Speaker 5 (08:16):
Yeah, I didn't like it. It was a whole lot better
if Samuel L. Jackson said, say they not like us
one more blinking time.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Yeah, because it felt like the whole performance was waiting
for him to play that one song to make it
about Drake, and you know, you realize, you know, maybe
you don't know all of the other Kendrick Lamar songs,
and if there wasn't that much production value to it
besides him rapping towards the camera, you know, in the past,
Katy Perry came in on a dinosaur.
Speaker 2 (08:45):
Yeah, okay, Kendrick mar didn't do any of that.
Speaker 5 (08:46):
We had the sharks, right, remember the left shark. The
shark was like going into business for himself and like
trying to make it about him.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
That was the one I was at.
Speaker 5 (08:55):
Yeah, but I was I don't know, man, I just
it didn't didn't hit with me. But again, I don't
know if I'm that target demo to begin with. But
I don't think it was just people like me that
didn't like it. I think overall that had a dis
not a very good approval ready. I think just from
from what I've seen.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
You know, you know Michael Jackson once stood for two
minutes and didn't say a word before he started playing.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
You know, I.
Speaker 1 (09:19):
Remember performances where they played actual instrument. Shannon, we've kind
of gotten away from like let's play, let's have an
actual band play at a halftime show.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
I sent you a DM yesterday.
Speaker 1 (09:28):
I don't know if you saw it of Creed playing
their halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys game during Thanksgiving.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
I thought you would enjoy that.
Speaker 5 (09:35):
It's such a big Creed fan, Shannon, I'm not a
Creed fan. But yes, Creedhead, Uh yeah, I don't know
that we've kind of gotten away from rock and country
at halftime right feels like it's been a lot of
rap the.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
Last it does.
Speaker 1 (09:48):
I know, we had Snoop Dogg and Doctor Dre a
couple of years ago, but you know that one wasn't bad.
Speaker 5 (09:53):
I kind of liked that one, just wasn't really a
fan of whatever Kendrick Lamar was drawing to do last.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Well, Well, I did enjoy him looking directly at the
camera and saying, say, Drake, I hear you like him young,
and then getting into the lyric where he calls him
a pedophile with one hundred million people watch.
Speaker 5 (10:08):
Although they blaped that one out, did you know.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
He didn't really say it was used.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
Yeah, he kind of just went into the next one
right after he was supposed to say that. You know, overall,
probably not the best halftime show, not the best commercials either,
but if you saw something you liked eight five nine
two eight h two two eight seven. Not the best
game either, not the best game either, so forgettable to.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Me, Yes, to me, the whole thing from start to
finish was a dud. I don't know, is there anything
redeemable from that Super Bowl that you will take away
from that last night. I mean the Eagles one. Don't
even get me started on the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Yeah, I don't know if there's really anything.
Speaker 1 (10:46):
I mean, I enjoyed it as a football fan, just
because it's football.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
And here's the thing about the Eagles fans. You know,
like I say, I don't like the city of Philadelphia.
I don't even know that the people who live in
Philadelphia like the city of Philadelphia because every time they win,
they try to burn the city to the ground.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
They had the grease up the telephone poles in New
Orleans as well, because Eagles fans phone poles.
Speaker 5 (11:08):
Yeah, I knew they were climbing the light poles, but.
Speaker 1 (11:11):
You know, same thing. I think telephone poems you can
actually climb. You can get a splinter that way too,
though you wouldn't.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
Be careful on telephone poles. Light up.
Speaker 1 (11:24):
Much easier to climb, I'm sure, or harder with grease
around it. But there's something about Philly fans. The worst
fan base in sports ended up getting another Super Bowl
last night. So give us call talk about that. We
had Kentucky beat South Carolina. I want to get into
depth with that, Shannon. But you know, we're kind of
doing weird on time here, so I think we're gonna
take an early break here eight five nine to two
(11:45):
two eight seven. We'll take your calls today and we'll
talk about this Kentucky South Carolina game next and other
things from a jam Pack sports weekend here on the
ksrpre Show.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
They played this last right, Yeah, a little sizza in
her appearance, Kendrick lamar a halftime show people calling us boomers, Shannon,
I don't care.
Speaker 5 (12:05):
You could call me whatever you want. I don't like
the halftime performance, so what like it seems like that's
everybody's go you're a boomer.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
You're a boomer.
Speaker 5 (12:14):
You're a boomer. Okay, you think that's gonna make me cry?
I don't care.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
What is this a Christmas story? Cry?
Speaker 5 (12:24):
You think I'm gonna cry because you call? Like, oh, well,
what a comeback?
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Man?
Speaker 5 (12:27):
I'm so hurt because you called me a boomer? Like
I care.
Speaker 1 (12:31):
Well, most people I think didn't like the halftime show either.
I'm getting flamed for not knowing that was Meg Ryan
and Billy Crystal recreating the scene from a movie Shannon.
Speaker 5 (12:40):
Harry Mittz, you know what I mean. I don't think
I've ever seen that movie either, So don't Oh you
haven't either. I know what exists, but like I don't know,
Like I don't have time to sit around watch Harry
met Sally. Like when I have downtime, do you think
I'm just gonna put on Harry met Sally. No, I'm
not that that came out in the eighties.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
We all have different interests.
Speaker 1 (13:01):
You can tell me that the bands, the undercards, and
the Bourbon Beyond festival, Shannon, that's just your interest. I
haven't seen when Harry met South and I did enjoy
the orgasm that Meg Ryan seemed to have by eating
Mayo in that commercial.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
We did have a Kentucky game over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
The Cats get back in the win column eighty to
fifty seven win over South Carolina. Shanon an interesting scenario
to start the game. Jackson Robinson hurt in practice had
a wrist injury after a full on collision with Brandon Garrison.
Mark Pope didn't get any sleep the night before the game,
was waking up in a cold sweat because he didn't
think Lamont Butler or Jackson Robinson would play, yet both
(13:38):
of them start in this game, Lamont Butler returns and
the Cats get a feel good twenty three point victory
over South Carolina. What'd you think of the game?
Speaker 5 (13:47):
First of all, very surprised to see Lamont Butler back. Yeah,
you know, we knew he was questionable, but I thought, well,
he's not gonna play right, And then of course we
had the scoop for matth that said he wouldn't go
to be back till the Alabama game, and then Billy's
scoop said next week. Turns out you were both wrong.
Oh wrong, But I'm glad that you were both wrong
because we got Butler back. And you know, I know
South Carolina is not a good team. They're now zero
(14:08):
to ten in the conference. But it was just good
to see Butler back. And maybe it's as simple as that.
Maybe it's as simple as Lamont Butler's back. We're getting
close to having one hundred percent of the team back
minus kerk crisis still, but you know, Butler being out there,
even though he didn't, you know, light up the stat line.
I think, as I've said in the past, just makes
this team look completely different. You know, they need him
(14:30):
on defense. I like the way he distributes the ball,
and just overall. It was a satisfying win and one
that I thought, you know, when we talked on Friday,
what do you think is going to happen? I thought
it would be a blowout win. That's exactly what happened.
But bigger picture, good to have Butler back and hopefully
he can stay healthy.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
I think you're exactly right.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
The heart and soul of this team, Mark Pope called
him last week, and he has been exactly that. And
maybe it is that simple. Maybe it's as simple as
just getting your point guard back. Maybe it's as simple
as just defending better, which they did, and maybe they're
best half of defense in the first half of the season.
Maybe it's just as simple as rebounding misses, you know
what I mean, Shannon, like boxing out, getting back to
(15:08):
the basics. I feel like Kentucky did that a little bit.
And despite beating a team in the SEC that didn't
have a single win in conference, Shannon, this was a
South Carolina team that had played Auburn close. They had
played close games all throughout the year, so they were
no slouch. They didn't start off great. Once again, one
for nine of They had five miss layups during that stretch,
but then they got it going. They got more comfortable
(15:30):
with Lamont back at the point guard spot. Thirty nine
points by the bench, which is really nice, including Andrew
Carr had a good first half, and then a little
bit of a revenge game for Trent Noah, who was
once committed to South Carolina, had five points, five rebounds
in an assist in thirteen minutes. I thought he played
good in some spurts, but overall, a much, much needed
(15:50):
victory for Kentucky over the weekend, Shannon.
Speaker 5 (15:52):
Yeah, and Brandon Garrison, I mean what a game.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
He had a great stretch a game.
Speaker 5 (15:57):
He had fifteen points. You know, we were talking about
out tightening up the rotation on Friday and you said, like,
you know, who would you take minutes from? And I
probably honestly would have said on Friday, Brandon Garrison is
one of those guys we need to see a little
bit less of. But no he comes out and has
a great game. So that's the good thing about Pope.
He's got a lot of depth in guys that could
come off the bench and contribute. So yeah, just overall,
(16:21):
I think that everybody played well. It was a feel
good win. Now you got to get ready for tomorrow night,
which is gonna be another tough win. It rough with
Tennessee coming to town.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
That's right, get the brooms out.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
You've got a chance to sweep Tennessee tomorrow night at
seven pm, this game at rep Ana As the Cats
already won on the road at Tennessee this year. Kentucky
now sixteen and seven, five and five in the SDC,
right in the middle of the pack, Shannon, and now
you could really so see Kentucky going a lot of ways, right,
I mean, they could really take care of businesses this
(16:51):
week against Tennessee and Texas and start to claw for
that top four position. Or they could lose both of
these games and be right back into that mindset. So
a lot of different ways this season could go. But overall,
great to see them win over the weekend. Great to
see the nineteen seventy five championship team honored Shannon the
fiftieth anniversary of that nineteen seventy five team that included
(17:12):
Goose Givens also on the radio call. But we got
to do something about these length of games. I feel
like every SEC game has been two.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
And a half hours.
Speaker 1 (17:22):
Shannon, Oh yeah, well we got a kicky tack fouls.
We got to reviews that we have to go to.
Speaker 5 (17:26):
The review has slowed down everything, you know. I mean
it depends though, you know, you say, TikTok ticking tack. Yeah,
I'll get it right, fouls. But then I watch other
games in the SEC and they just let them roll
over each other, you know, just knock each other down
and no fouls are called. So it really just depends
on the officiating crew that you have from night to night.
Speaker 1 (17:46):
But it's like every Kentucky game lasts about twenty to
thirty minutes longer than every game that starts at the
same time as them.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
I don't know what it is.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
And maybe I'm just somebody that's on the clock and
complaining about this during the game shaded, but it seems
like these games have gotten longer to know what it is.
Speaker 2 (18:00):
No, maybe that's just the SEC.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
I think it seems like it because they have gotten longer,
you know, game game just to be two hours, and
now they you know, for an impatient bunch of people
that we have in the world now that all want
to get games over quickly, the games have somehow become longer,
and there.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Was the leastways that. Right, I've got something to do, Shannon.
Speaker 5 (18:19):
Let's let's get let's get out of there. So I'm
looking at the SEC standings, Billy, like, on the this
is SEC official website, they got Tennessee or no, let's
see Kentucky ranked tenth in the conference. Now is that correct?
Speaker 1 (18:35):
I thought they were eighth, but maybe they're tied with
some people.
Speaker 5 (18:39):
And yeah, I mean I thought that they had a
tiebreaker where they would be eighth. But what I'm looking
at on the official SEC website, I mean, maybe they
got it wrong, but it looks like they got them
at twent It's a log jam.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
There's a lot of good teams, and there's a chance, Shannon,
when the AP pole comes out later today, that could
that the SEC could have the top four teams in
the country Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and possibly Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
After Duke lost to Clemson over the weekend.
Speaker 5 (19:06):
Yeah, that was a great weekend, man, just for sports
in general. You know, with Auburn going down, Duke losing,
I guess Alabama will be the new number one.
Speaker 1 (19:13):
Right, I mean, I think you'd have to think so yeah,
I mean, ultimately, I think Duke does get a number
one seed in the NCAA Tournament. But wow, I mean,
he has the see could have three. It's incredible how
good they've been. And you're right, Florida beating Auburn over
the weekend ninety to eighty one.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
Dicky v returns.
Speaker 5 (19:30):
That was great. Great to see Dick vitis I love.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
I mean, I got a little emotional just seeing it.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
I don't know, I've been caught up in his journey,
all the cancer operations and procedures that that guy has
has had to go.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Through, Shannon not speaking for long periods of time, and.
Speaker 5 (19:43):
His voice as college basketball man. When you hear Dick Vitel,
you know it's a big game, and you know, I
know some people don't necessarily love his commentary, but I
think he's just a great ambassador for the game, and
he's been that for so many years. I mean, ever
since I was a kid, ever since I can remember
watching college basketball, Dick Vitel was always a part of
the biggest games and it was just great to have
(20:03):
him back on Saturday.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
That's that's exactly right. And you can bet on college
basketball games on DraftKings.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
That's right. You can do it all on Draft Kings,
hopefully with better luck than I have. You know, Billy,
I told you that I was a part of the
Happy Hour promotion that they did earlier last week, where
you know, they were trying to get you to bet
early on the Super Bowl, and one of the gimme
bets was Travis Kelsey ten yards or more in the
first quarter. I don't think he got to catch till
the second half. I don't know what for him. I
(20:30):
don't know what they were doing out there. I don't
think the Chiefs did either. But you can bet on
all the action on Draft Kings. Promo code KSR bet
five dollars get one hundred and fifty instantly in bonus bets.
That is with DraftKings. Of course, right now the focus
is going to the NBA with football season over. Go
to DraftKings as a new customer put in the promo

Speaker 1 (21:08):
Just about a minute left, so we will start taking
calls on the other side of this break. A couple
other things, Shannon, it was nice to see some dunks
in that Kentucky versus South Carolina game. They went hard
in the paint, so to say, I think a couple
of times. And then Amari Williams plus thirty two in
the game. You know, plus minus can be kind of
deceptive at times, but a Mari Williams has just gotten
(21:29):
better at better, feels like over these last few games.
Speaker 2 (21:31):
He's a really important part of this.
Speaker 5 (21:32):
Yeah, we've talked about earlier in the year. You know
that that give it to a Mario and let him
back down. A guy is not the offense that you want.
But he has improved drastically over the season, just from
the very beginning to where we are now. I mean,
if I got a kind a triple double last game,
who would have thought that. So he's, you know, becoming
a big part of the offense. Give it to amar
(21:52):
let him do his thing.
Speaker 2 (21:53):
Yeah, No, doubt.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
I mean, he says, you're seeing his confidence grow now
if we could just avoid collisions at practice. Shannon, Yes,
it's been some contentious practices. You would think so after
you know, losing four of your last five games. Guys
trying to play for minutes and try to get back
into the right side of things. And Jackson Robinson with
a wrist injury, his shooting wrist as well on his
in his right hand. But glad he came back. He
(22:14):
hit a couple threes. Looks like he'll be okay. We'll
talk more about the Kentucky South Carolina game and take
your calls. Coming up next here on the show. Before
the show, it is the kasrppreciate say.
Speaker 5 (22:23):
You boomer, boomer, Boomer, you're a boomer, You're a boomer. Now,
Billy some Seal I can be down with. I love Seal.
I wish Seal was the halftime performer.
Speaker 2 (22:38):
Oh yeah, I like Seal.
Speaker 5 (22:40):
Oh Seal is amazing that that commercial was kind of
amazing too.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
But maybe nightmare or fuel for these boomers eight five
nine two, eight oh two two eight seven. This song
was like one of my favorites from the nineties. I
remember like you want to talk about being here. Let
me let me embrace being a boomer for just a
minute for all of you. They're you're up, Yeah, I
was so I'm I'm so old.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
I can remember when we had cassette tapes and when
you wanted to try to, you know, grab a song
off the radio, you had to listen billy and wait
for them to play it on the radio, and then
you put in your cassette on your blank your blank cassette,
you know, and you report it straight from the radio
onto your cassette.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
Yeah, I did that.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
It wasn't for my cassettes though, it was from my
ring tone on my flip phone cell phone.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
Shannon.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Then we had a time at just right so you
could have an actual ring tone. Uh eight five nine
two eight h two two eight seven. One person says,
with Butler back, everyone just looks more comfortable and in
their proper position. Everyone looked like they knew where they
belonged on defense. And I have I agree with that, Shannon.
I mean, you know, you bring you bring your point
guard back, and everybody can naturally go back to the
(23:47):
position that they know the best. And you know, there's
probably something to be said with a veteran like that
returning and you feeling more comfortable about the overall operations.
Speaker 5 (23:55):
Absolutely. I mean when this team practiced together, you know,
leading into the season, and they practice with this being
the game plan and this being the lineup, and then
when all of a sudden, you have an injury, you
get a curveball thrown at you. You got to make
that adjustment. Now, I will say Jackson Robinson offensively has
done a really good job making that adjustment. But you know, defensively,
you can definitely tell that they miss Lamont Butler being
(24:17):
out there. You've seen that for sure.
Speaker 1 (24:19):
I one more college basketball note and then we'll hit
the phone. Saint John's beat yukon over the weekend sixty
eight to sixty two. You know Dan Hurley famously saying
do you know who I am? I'm the best coach
in the sport? Earlier this year. Do you think Rick
Patino might be the actual best sport?
Speaker 5 (24:34):
I mean, you look at what Rick Patino has done
just throughout his career. The guy's just a winner. It
doesn't matter where he goes, you know, besides Boston. Well,
I mean that was his very first year, right sure, Yeah, Okay,
So it comes back to Mbia the eighty. Oh okay,
I thought you're about Boston the University because he did
coach Boston University too first year.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
No, no, no, no, I may like to sell Yeah yeah, I
mean yeah.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
When it comes to college basketball, the guys just a
winner though. Right everywhere he goes he wins. I mean
he even made a winner out of Iona, for God's sake.
If you can go to Iona and win, you can
win anywhere. And Saint John's is back. Man, what are
they now? Are they twenty or twenty one and three?
Speaker 1 (25:12):
I'm not sure. I know they only have one loss
in conference, and.
Speaker 5 (25:16):
I think they're gonna win that conference, especially with the
win over Yukon. I think that was kind of for
the conference. Unless they just completely implode and fall apart,
Saint John's and Rick Patino are going to win the
Big East. That is That is incredible.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
I don't want to see them in March. No, surely
it'd be a terrible matchup. They are great at defense,
so that might be early time.
Speaker 5 (25:35):
We hear all the time that the NCAA committee does
not look for narratives or storylines, right, so there's no
chance they'll put Kentucky and Saint John's in the same
bracket where maybe they can meet up in the second round.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Or I'm just gonna call that out now, that is
just a that's just a lie.
Speaker 5 (25:49):
That's all made TV. Oh, no doubt they know, they
know what they're doing. Oh, we didn't accidentally put that
that bracket together to where Saint John's could play Kentucky
the second round.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
Okay, just happened.
Speaker 5 (26:02):
Nudge nudge, wink wink.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
All right, let's get to the phones. A five nine
two eight O two two eight seven. I believe Zach
is up first. Good morning, Zach, Good.
Speaker 6 (26:10):
Morning, gentlemen. I am excited about this basketball team. I
am now that we've kind of got back to full strength.
I feel like where I thought we'd be when the
season started. We've won some games we probably shouldn't have won,
just on a talent level. We've lost some heartbreakers that
stuck to be a part of, but hey, that's life.
And now we're at a point where I feel like
we can win a couple of games in the SEC tournament.
(26:32):
I feel like we can win a couple of games
in the NCAA tournament. And I'm just I'm happy I'm
thrilled with where we are and it is a joy
again to be a fan. So like, I don't you know,
maybe I'm too simplistic, but I'm just happy.
Speaker 2 (26:48):
He ain't nothing wrong with that.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
I mean, that's the that's the purpose of sports, right,
is to actually enjoy the game that you're watching every
now and then. I you know, they did just come
off of a you know, losing four to their last
five games.
Speaker 2 (27:00):
So Shannon, I want to pose the question to you.
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Are you as back on board as our caller Zach
here or are there's still some things you want to
see iron.
Speaker 5 (27:07):
With Butler back. Yes. The other thing is, though, you
got to keep in mind they played South Carolina. Let's
see what happens tomorrow night, right, But yeah, I think
I'm cautiously optimistic that this team is back on track
and that Kentucky will be okay. But again, you've got
to keep everybody healthy. I think that's the biggest factor
in all of this.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
What do you think, Zach?
Speaker 6 (27:25):
Yeah, I'm cautiously optimistic is exactly where I am. I'm
thrilled with the way we played. I can't wait to
see what we do, specifically against Texas and Oklahoma. I
don't think they have a great record, and I think
we might be able to sneak those two games out.
And if we do, and that puts us in maybe
getting a buy in the SEC Tournament, and that would
be fantastic.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
All right, thank you very much, Zach. We appreciate the call.
That might be tough.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
I mean, just since the top four is so good
this year, Shannon, as we talked about the Apeopole coming
out later, could have four SEC teams as the top four.
But you know, as long as they're not playing on Wednesday,
I think that's my goal.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
That Yeah, that's it, man, Like you just don't want
to fall on that nine through sixteen in the rankings
that ended up having to play on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday,
and then Sunday. That's a gauntlet you'd have to run
to win the SEC Tournament if you start on Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
We need people to show up to the Alice Blue
Gown show on Thursday. Oh yeah, we cannot have Kentucky
lose on Wednesday.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
And we need people to show up for our KSR show, right,
I mean, what day is that again?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Friday? Friday?
Speaker 5 (28:25):
Oh, sticking with Friday, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (28:28):
I believe so ok, as of now, GM Billy to
get on that.
Speaker 1 (28:32):
Yeah, let's let's take another call and not think about that.
Speaker 2 (28:35):
Alex is up next? Alex, what's up?
Speaker 4 (28:39):
You know? It's hurting and I had a callinoscopy you
know has to be nasty because all ever each is
skyline chilly eight eight.
Speaker 5 (28:46):
Okay, let's move on.
Speaker 2 (28:49):
Is that the same guy last week?
Speaker 5 (28:51):
I'm not up for another one?
Speaker 1 (28:52):
All right, let's try to cut you. Cut Alex off.
He didn't even let him finish his wrap. He could
have performed at a super Bowl one day.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
Who's up now? I mean I think I heard his
up on Friday. If it's the same guy, uh no,
let's go to Rusty. What's up?
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Rusty?
Speaker 7 (29:05):
Hey fellows, I got a lot of stuff from a
throat you real quick. Today's my forty second.
Speaker 6 (29:09):
Birthday, so let's start there.
Speaker 4 (29:12):
Thank you.
Speaker 7 (29:13):
Today's also coach Col's birthday, love you mer hating. It's
also his, so throw that out to him. Who on
this earth doesn't want to see a a third fourth
place NFL? We should have seen the morning should have
started Bill versus Commanders and then rolled into the super Bowl,
because that's the game everybody wanted to see.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
To be honest with everybody, what would be.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
The reward for that win though, like the second loser of.
Speaker 7 (29:39):
The lead, America is happy. America's happy period. And then lastly,
you all didn't mention it earlier, but Clemson beat Duke,
so it looks like Alabama's going to move into the number.
Speaker 5 (29:51):
Oh yeah, we said that. Yeah, you were listening. You
were listening.
Speaker 7 (29:55):
Yeah, I means sitting on hold. You know, it goes,
it goes both.
Speaker 5 (29:58):
Ways, all right, Rusty, thanks for the guys, yep, thanks
forty sure, birthday to you and coach cal But yeah,
we mentioned Clemson knocking off Duke, and now Alabama looks
like they're going to be at the top again.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Yeah, Cooper, Flag's got a real problem when you sweat
so much that you slip on your own sweat in
big game, late situations. I mean, it could be a
disaster for the NCAA tournament.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Shan.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
I mean that's the second time I feel like the
guy's slipped in a big moment. And now Clemson's got
a weird resume, right because you've got home wins versus
Kentucky and Duke, and yet you are not ranked right now?
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Are Duke fans trying to blame the the towel boy
that goes out and wipes up the sweat.
Speaker 1 (30:36):
I haven't seen the pulse of the Duke fan base,
but that's the first thing I thought of was when
that happened late in that Clemson Duke game. I don't
know I enjoyed it, though. Who's up next, Shannon, Let's
go to Brandon. Brandon, what's up?
Speaker 8 (30:50):
Hey, good morning, guys. I'm still laughing about that color, y'all.
Let go that's funny. Do you all think la mont
Butler are coming back against North Carolina with kind of
a like a more of a warm up for Tennessee,
like giving him some valuable minutes and things like that,
whether he was one hundred percent or not. Do you
(31:10):
think that was any possibility on that one?
Speaker 2 (31:14):
I mean, I think it's possible.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
You know, head coach Billy r sports here would have
waited to play him during the Tennessee game because I
thought they could handle a winless South Carolina. But yet
part of me also thinks, Shannon, they needed that win
and they needed to throw maybe the entire kitchen sink
at South Carolina to be able to get back on track.
Speaker 5 (31:32):
I think another factor was also Jackson Robinson being banged
up a little bit too, you know, yeah, so you
got to factor that in. Now you've got two guys
that are banged up, you might as well just play
them both.
Speaker 1 (31:41):
You go to the mott and you just say, hey,
we need you, like you got to fight through some.
Speaker 5 (31:45):
At some point, you got to rip the band aid
off and decide, Okay, is this going to be the game?
Is the next game going to be the game? Like
which one is? If you keep delaying it and pushing
it back, you're never going to get him out there
to play. So the only way to see if he
can play through it is to play them, you know.
So I think that's what Pope was doing, and it
worked out well on Saturday, and we'll see what happens
tomorrow night.
Speaker 8 (32:05):
Anything else, I was just going to say, in a
couple of weeks, I'm taking my dad to his first
UK basketball game ever, And I was wondering, besides KSR
in the usual spots, what's some hole in the wall
place that you think a first time fan would love
just you know, like just decent food doesn't have to
be great food, but just a hole in the wall atmosphere.
(32:27):
Thank you guys.
Speaker 5 (32:27):
Yep, thanks for the call.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
Brandon, Yeah, thank you.
Speaker 5 (32:29):
Obviously I'm going to say ks bar. But Billy, you're
the guy who lives in Lexington. You're, you know, going
around and hob novin with all the big time people
in Lexington and going to all the bars and stuff.
So where's your suggestion.
Speaker 1 (32:43):
Well, I work on game days, so I don't get
the atmosphere per se, but a couple of places that
are around here that if you're looking for the Lexington
experience I would recommend. You know, I think Carson's is
a great place that's near downtown. Poppies Mexican I've heard
once or twice is actually a great spot. Main Street
Deli is a place close to upp Arena that I
(33:06):
really really like, And there's a couple good sandwich places there.
And then you know, you could go to the Tony's
or Jeff Rubies if you're willing to spend a little
bit more money. Shannon, maybe you get a little bougie
and you you want to get that free bread at
a really good spot.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
That's good free bread spot, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
Yeah, So there you go. There's a good few good
suggestions on where to go before the game.
Speaker 1 (33:26):
A five nine two O two two eight seven. Before
we take a break though, Shannon, why don't you tell
me about one of our.
Speaker 5 (33:31):
Sponsors here, Yeah, the segment sponsored by Right Way Auto Glass, Billy.
The next time you have a crack in your windshield,
you need to call Right Way Auto Glass directly. Now,
I've talked to you about a crack in your windshield
like a year ago. Is that crack still there?
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Still there? Betty?
Speaker 5 (33:44):
I'm gonna call Right Way Auto Glass for you because
you're being stubborn. It could be a real pain trying
to get a hold of your insurance company. But if
you call it right Way Auto Glass, Billy, They're gonna
take care of all of it for you. Like, what
are you waiting on? They make it so easy at
Right Way Auto's worry about the process. I'm telling you
about the process right now. Just listen up. Right Way
Auto Glass. They help you from start to finish, Billy,
all right?
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Is that true?
Speaker 5 (34:03):
They're locally owned and operate it. They can bind generational
skill with cutting edge technology. They're going to repair your
broken glass the right way. That's what They're called right
Way Auto Class and their team members are experienced, licensed
and ensured. They start with integrity and in with five
star service and they offer same and next day service
as well as mobile service, which means, Billy, they can
come to you like right now while we're doing this
(34:25):
radio show, if you'd call it them, like, you know,
anytime between a year ago and today, like right now
while you're while you're doing this radio show, they could
be out in the parking lot fixing your glass for you.
It's that easy. Give them a call at eight five nine,
five two three ten ninety eight. You can also go
to Rightwayautoglass dot com. That's our it te Way Autoglass
dot com.
Speaker 1 (34:43):
Yeah, I'm gonna be making a couple of calls later
today to see if I can get Shannon the Dude
a speaking gig on an upcoming film. So maybe I'll
call right Way right after I make some of those calls.
Speaker 5 (34:52):
So you actually got some places that actually, you know,
I had somebody else reach out to me last night
about another movie role.
Speaker 1 (34:57):
Well they skipped to the middleman in me. They're going
directly to you. Now, what are your thoughts here?
Speaker 5 (35:04):
Well, they said, I guess I have to sign a
non disclosure agreement, so I guess I can't talk about it.
Speaker 1 (35:08):
Oh, they heard you on the show and he said
he's going to trash your production of the movie.
Speaker 5 (35:14):
Yeah, but you better.
Speaker 2 (35:15):
Signed this NBA signed up.
Speaker 5 (35:17):
I haven't signed it yet though, and I probably will
not go back. The only way, as I told you, Billy,
that I will go back and do any more acting
roles is if I get to speak. Doesn't have to
be like a whole lot. Just give me a couple
of lines, all right, then I'll go back. Other than that,
I'm not standing there like a dummy out in the
freezing cold for twelve hours. I mean rolling in here
off thirty minutes of sleep. I'm not doing that anymore.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Well, just you know, share me their number and I'll
speak to them about.
Speaker 5 (35:41):
Okay, I'm gonna say my agent will be my agent,
Billy our Sports will be contacting you later.
Speaker 2 (35:44):
Say Billy our Sports. Is that his name? You'll say, yes, Yeah,
that's right.
Speaker 5 (35:48):
All right. We'll take a break's name.
Speaker 1 (35:49):
To them, one name Billy our Sports, Billy our Sports,
and the dude will take a break.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
We'll be at back. Final segment coming up here on
the KS. I appreciate it all.
Speaker 5 (35:59):
Right, Billy, have you heard this song?
Speaker 1 (36:02):
No? No, it doesn't ring a bell. Okay, well this
is Filter, this boomer music music.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
Yeah. So you and I were doing a little planning
off the air about next Monday, because we are supposed
to be off. It's a company holiday, right, It's President's Day,
that's right. So you said, do I want to come
in and work on President's Day and do a comp
day or do I want to take off President's Day?
I said, no, I'm going to take off President's Day
because this coming Sunday night, I'm going to go see
(36:29):
Jerry Cantrell from Alison Jans. That's right. This boomer is
going to go see Jerry Cantrell and Filter in concert
Wow Sunday night. So I don't want to wake up
early the next day and go to work. I don't
have to. It's a company holiday, so we're going to
take it.
Speaker 4 (36:41):
Well.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
The thing about it is the show will be over
by eight thirty, so you should be asleep and in bed.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
I don't think maybe, I don't think the show starts
till like maybe eight o'clock, seven thirty, eight o'clock.
Speaker 1 (36:52):
There's two bands, so it'd be tough if you had
work the next day. Yeah, as we know, we've heard
you really don't know this song. I don't and I
haven't heard this.
Speaker 5 (36:59):
I felt like we talked about They just played it
louder than Life Fest and we talked about it, and
I watched them in the rain. Is that not ringing
a bell man? You know?
Speaker 1 (37:06):
I feel pretty good at remembering, like when I can
hear a song that I've heard before.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
But this song was huge back in the nineties. Yeah,
you're worried about that.
Speaker 5 (37:15):
But back when, back when boomers were young.
Speaker 1 (37:17):
Now, I brought up President's Day next Monday, because this Monday, today,
the Monday after the Super Bowl, twenty two point six
million Americans will call in to work sick. It's actually
one of the most unproductive days on the calendar. The
Harris Poll for the Workforce Institute at UKG has been
tracking this for two decades. This includes pre approved, pre
(37:39):
approved day off, switching shifts with somebody ghosting your employer entirely,
or calling in to say that you're not six. Twenty
two point six million Americans will call in sick today.
But Shannon, if they delayed the NFL season just one week. Yes,
we would all have the Monday after the Super Bowl off.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Because of President's Damn.
Speaker 1 (37:57):
Do you think that's something that is done within the
next you know, five for ten years.
Speaker 5 (38:02):
Or should have been done five or ten years ago. Yeah,
I agree, Like, come on, man, I mean just that
stat that you read there. You combine that with the
fact that they already extend the regular season, you know,
another week right with the.
Speaker 1 (38:18):
National guest That's why we've gotten closer and closer to
this date. We're doing eighteen weeks in the regular I.
Speaker 5 (38:22):
Know they cut one of the exhibition games, right, so
one of the preseason Yeah, the preseason games. So but anyway, Yeah,
I mean, I think it would be an easy fix
just to lay it one more week. Then everybody gets
off Monday. You don't have to worry about if you're
a business losing productivity because nobody's there. Seems like a
win win. I don't know why you wouldn't.
Speaker 1 (38:40):
I'd really appreciate our presidents even more if we could
do it the day after this.
Speaker 5 (38:45):
I really appreciate my president's better when I'm hungover.
Speaker 2 (38:48):
You know, that's exactly right.
Speaker 1 (38:50):
I couldn't have said it any better and hopefully we
see that change here in the next coming years. Let's
go back to the phones. I believe Jim is next
on the line. Good morning, Jim.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Oh hello there, listen. I just wanted to tell you
not only did we have a good weekend with uh
Kentucky winning, but Ken just lost, which gives us another
game lead over them and Hunter Dickerson. I'm glad he's
not with us, That's all I gotta say.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
All right, game, end of that, Jim.
Speaker 1 (39:20):
He uh, a little bit of a div out there
on the court, a little bit, maybe more than.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
A little bit.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
But yeah, Kansas State, big win over Kansas. It was
a it was a fun weekend in college basketball. Saturday,
you know, Kentucky game gets over a little bit earlier
than normal. You could just sit there and watch some
good games.
Speaker 5 (39:36):
I'm sure you enjoy that. Had to work the games,
you know, you're out of there about what three five
thirty oh, five thirty. Wow, it goes that late.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Yeah, I mean you got to think the games two
and a half hours.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
That's true.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
Yeah, the game game I is an hour and ten minute.
Post game at goes about hour and ten minutes as well. Yeah,
it's a it's a while until you get out of there.
We still got time to get Mike on the line, though, Mike,
what's up?
Speaker 3 (40:00):
Hey, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (40:01):
Billan Shannon?
Speaker 5 (40:02):
Amen?
Speaker 4 (40:04):
Hey, uh this one. I heard you'll call out South
Carolina a while ago and just wanted to call in.
First of all, well, they chased in Florida, so normally
I'll call in when I'm out of town. But calling this,
you know, South Carolina though they may not be as
good as everybody else, but you know, they still lost
just four or five six ball games by just not
(40:25):
that many pore.
Speaker 5 (40:26):
Yeah, yeah, that's right. They really Florida to one point.
They played Auburn close, they played Vandy. Yeah, they've they've
had some games. The thing about South Carolina they either
play teams close or they get blown out. There's really
no in between. But they've got some time.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
That's what happened with We blew We blew them out.
So I was really I was real impressed with twenty
seven point or twenty three point went win.
Speaker 5 (40:45):
Oh, no doubt about it. Yeah, thanks for the call, Mike.
You know, they have a guy who, as we highlighted
on Friday, a guy that's gonna be a first round
draft pick.
Speaker 2 (40:52):
Boiles, who is South Carolina? Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 5 (40:56):
So I mean that team that they beat, they maybe
oh to ten, but again their zer and ten against
the best SEC conference in our lifetime, so yeah, they're
still really good.
Speaker 2 (41:07):
And look, I was happy for Trent Noah.
Speaker 1 (41:09):
I mean, that was a kid that was gonna go
to South Carolina until they let him out of his
letter of intent. And he had some big rebounds in
the beginning of the game and just played some productive minutes.
So good to see that from the bench. Shannon, tell
me about DraftKings for we had to leave.
