Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everybody.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
It is the KSR pre Show Wednesday, July twenty third.
Speaker 1 (00:06):
I'm Shannon the dude, I mean Loisboll being joined by.
Speaker 2 (00:09):

in the Clark's Pupping Shop phone line. That's eight five
nine two eight oho twenty two eighty seven be our
a whiskey thief call of the day. You can also
send us a text if you can't call in five
h two two six five six six five six. KSR
Pre Show is being brought to you by a Talles
fine Italian donning in Lexington, which is where Billy is
(00:29):
right now.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
It's going on, Billy. How are you man doing all right?
Speaker 3 (00:32):
Let's go, Let's go, Shannon. I'm ready to go.
Speaker 4 (00:34):
I got back into the gym the other day for
the first time in maybe two weeks, and let me
tell you I'm back, Shannon. The energy levels are here
and we're ready to go this morning.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
How are you doing doing good? Man? I just wonder,
like you, what's your excuse for two weeks?
Speaker 4 (00:47):
I know, I know it's she's just got a little busy, Shannon.
I mean, this is supposed to be my easy time
of the year.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Billy.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Our sports gotten a little busy.
Speaker 4 (00:54):
So really the problem is every time I go to
work out, I just go play golf instead or go
to the driving range. So you know, that's why I
got this Farmer Tan. I'm rocking Shannon. This watch Tan,
this farmer Tan and is not good. But you know what,
we're back in it. And there's just something about getting
back in the gym. There was energy levels going back up.
But I don't have to tell you you're mister consistent. That's
right there, that's right. I've been more consistent probably this
(01:15):
year than I ever have since. I don't know when
I had to do it back in high school and
college when they were like making you go to the
gym at.
Speaker 2 (01:22):
Six o'clock in the morning. I still do this day.
Do not like running because of all the running I
had to do in college. Like you know, as a pitcher,
they make you run more than anybody else. So it
wasn't like we ran the exact same amount as the
position players because while all the position players were out
there taking batting practice, guess what the pitchers were doing
(01:44):
running polls. That's right, Yeah, got to get that leg
strength up, you know.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
Well, that's odd that you hate running so much and
yet you know your claim to fame is walking fifty
miles in less than twenty four hours.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I mean, I didn't say it like everybody's got a price,
like don't worry, like I.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
Hate doing things. But enough, I mean, yeah, I mean everybody.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
A wise man once told me when I was a kid,
everybody's got a price for the million dollar man. And
it's true, and it's true. Everybody does have a price.
So you pay me enough, I will go run.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (02:12):
And we know how you're motivated, Shannon, And that's money.
But you know there are people that swear by it, right,
these these ultra marathoners or you know, I have a
best friend that I still talk to from Florida. That's
his thing, Shannon, is he does these long runs or
hikes or who wants to go on a you know,
a fifty mile run when I'm back in town next Monday.
Speaker 2 (02:31):
It's like, no, yeah, not going to happen here, all right,
So I don't know, man, where do you want to start?
We got the TVT stuff that happened last night, which
I think was highy entertaining. Of course, we also got
some really sad news in the world of rock and roll,
Ozzy Osbourne passed away. So do you want to start
with the TVT stuff or where do you want to
start today?
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I kind of want to start with the TVT. There's
a part of me that was.
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Glad that I didn't go to Memorial And that's bizarre,
because the environment there has been awesome, and that's why
I think so many are clamoring that the Men should
do an event there for the actual regular season or
an exhibition game. But I was glad that I didn't
go to Memorial because I got to listen to the
refs and the coaches and Shannon. The last five minutes
of that game was bizarre. Highly entertaining, like you said,
(03:16):
but bizarre. I don't think I've ever seen anything.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
Like Well, first of all, yeah, we'll get to that
in just a second. Let's backtrack and just just kind
of recap the game here quickly. Yeah, TBT La Familia
loses yesterday, seventy one to seventy to Iberlin Drive.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
I guess that's what we're gonna call him.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
You know, they trailed going into the fourth quarter, then
they came back and it all came down to Willie
khley Stein and this runout that he had where he
could have ended the game right there, but he gets
fouled and goes down with an injury. I mean, I
don't know, man, I'm surprised they didn't have to have
like you know, the ambulance came out and caught him off.
It looked like a pretty bad injury to me. But
(03:53):
he gets up, gets up on a you know, miraculous
moment and is able to hopple off and he go
to the bench. Billy, he goes straight to the back.
I mean, for somebody that was hurt, he got up
really quickly and got out of there really quickly. I've
never seen anybody make a faster disappearance than maybe Nazi
Mohammed in Nashville. That you're when he hit that last
(04:14):
second layup to beat Vanderbilt and Tubby, He's like, get
off the floor, Get off the floor. Willie collin Stein
may have gotten off the floor quicker than quicker than
Nazi Muhammed in the Kentucky team and that you're down
in Nashville.
Speaker 3 (04:24):
A no to old miss football players.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
It felt like, yeah, like get out of here while
you can.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
So okay, Obviously the players from the other team weren't
believing it, but apparently neither were the refs. I mean,
the refs are miked up in this game, and you
hear the refs going, Oh, he ain't hurt, No, no, no,
he's going to shoot those free throws. But the thing is,
they didn't make Willy shoot the free throws. And I
don't know how you can say he ain't hurt, Like,
(04:50):
are you a doctor referee? Like do you also you're
a doctor who's moonlighting? Is a TBT ref? Like did
you give him an examination? How do you know that
he's not hurt? But the weren't buying it yet. Willie
he's already in the in the locker room at this point,
so they didn't go like drag them back out there
and make them shoot the free throws. And instead, Archie
(05:12):
goes to the line hits the first one. This is
the second one. Ebralin Drive comes down and had like
what three or four shots?
Speaker 5 (05:23):
Did?
Speaker 1 (05:23):
They needed the three.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
To get to the elam ending to get to the
target score of seventy one. It was seventy sixty eight
at that point, but man, we could have had the
win right there on that free throw. Archie choked, man,
he choked on that last one, and Evelin drive comes down.
They had multiple chances. We couldn't get an offensive rebound
to save our life. The three goes in Ebralin Drive
wins seventy one to seventy. At the end of the game,
(05:47):
the Kentucky or the Lo Familia coaches were complaining, saying, hey,
that first three pointer didn't even hit the rim, you know,
going back and looking at it, I think they had
an argument that.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
They never hit the rim.
Speaker 1 (05:58):
I don't think it ever hit the rim now.
Speaker 2 (06:00):
I can't remember, though, how quickly the other three point
shot that did hit the rim went back up, so
I don't know if it would have made a difference
at the end anyway.
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Yeah, but they clearly missed that, Billy.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
But the referees, to me, I think are the most
entertaining part of the entire tournament. These refs that are
miked up and they're talking smack and for one Billy,
I think that maybe we should implement this into regular
season games. I want to hear these refs and their
thoughts the entire game as we go throughout. Because it
was top level entertainment last night listening to the refs.
Speaker 4 (06:29):
Yeah, those final two minutes, it felt like I was
watching an OVW production, Like this was amazing theater and entertainment.
If you're watching on TV, you see Willie colly Stein
get you know, fouled hard, but you don't see him
drop to the ground. Yeah, so he had stood up,
gone to the free throw line and then you know
he drops to the ground. You only hear the referee
(06:51):
one referee going no, no, no, no, no, he's not hurt.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yeah, he's shooting these free throws.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
He is adamant angry at this point, and I am
completely and Willie colley Stein's camp at that point, I'm like,
I'm just like you, Shannon, how dare you say somebody's
not hurt?
Speaker 3 (07:08):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (07:08):
You can't ever say that. That's crossing a line in sports.
Then I see the replay Willie clearly looking to this
eyeline and in one of the Kentucky assistant coaches going
go down.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Yeah, like you see this in football in college football
a lot of times when you know they're driving and
they're trying to stop the clock, go down. You know
you see that, you see the hand signal coming from
the coach on the sideline.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Get down, get down and act like you're hurt.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
We just saw rule change in college football to that
specific instance that doesn't exist in the TBT. So Willie,
who couldn't hit the broadside of a barn from the
free throw line last night, probably a smart move by
the coaches staff to say that. So he goes down,
and now I'm completely on the ref side. I'm like,
he's not hurt at all. He does have to shoot
(07:52):
those free throws, but he's already gone to the back.
Speaker 3 (07:55):
It was simply incredible.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
I thought Archie was going to seal it right there,
but he misses that second free throw. But you're right,
that three pointer never hit the rim. That completely changes
how that possession's played. And ultimately, you know, could have
had gone Kentucky's way maybe, but I think you know,
the country would have been in an uproar if Archie
would have hit that second free throw in Kentucky would
have won like that. Don't you think that that had
(08:18):
been a Sports Center worthy story? I think for the TBT,
which they would have loved, a walk off free throw,
a walk off free throw after a clearly faked injury.
Speaker 3 (08:28):
It was bizarre.
Speaker 4 (08:29):
But to have the ref miked up like that, Shannon,
that is a moment I have.
Speaker 3 (08:32):
Never seen in vat.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Referee was so adamant that he faked that injury that
I thought for sure they were gonna go grab him
by the hair and pull them out, like you know,
like an OVW thing like there, to go backstage, Yes,
pull them down the ramp and go no, you're gonna
shoot these free throws.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
But they let it go.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
I mean, I don't know what else you could have
done other than physically try to push them out there.
I don't I don't think those reps wanted any part
of Willie khali Stein.
Speaker 5 (08:53):
Right.
Speaker 4 (08:54):
If I'm Willie, I'm in a wheelchair back there, like
you're not kidding me back, yeah, Like I'm Paul Pierce right.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
Now, I'm already.
Speaker 2 (08:59):
If I'm Willie, I'm already laying on the operating table
like they're about to amputate the leg at that point,
you know, like I can't, Sorry, I can't go out
there and shoot.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Free throws right now.
Speaker 2 (09:08):
But I mean, look, he did take the fall, right,
I mean.
Speaker 3 (09:12):
Did he certainly did.
Speaker 1 (09:13):
Let's all be real, let's.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
Take off the big blue shades for just a minute.
He obviously faked that injury, got out of dodge quickly
as possible. Do you feel like he kind of threw
I mean, I don't know that Archie. He knew that
Archie was going to be the one that shoot the
free throws. But do you feel like he kind of
threw his other guys under the bus? Or was that
a smart move, a calculated smart move on Willie's part
to do that.
Speaker 1 (09:35):
So I'm gonna ask you fair or foul.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
On Willie to do that, to do that to you know,
basically fake the injury, get out of the way so
that somebody else could shoot the free throws.
Speaker 3 (09:46):
I think it's a heavy play, Shandon.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
So while it may be foul in the rule book,
I mean, what are you gonna do about it? I
mean that you can't not give the guy free throws,
So I guess I'm going fair. It was a good
idea by Willie Cauley's time, because he couldn't shoot free
throws that night. So if it's in the game, if
it's a loophole in the game, then if he ain't cheating,
you ain't trying, some might say, Shannon, but he was
(10:09):
trying real hard. Good on that ref for taking a
stand though, right, because I think everybody was against him.
At one point he did get a little over zealous.
He was poking Sean Woods in the chest. I don't
know if he saw that, he was wagging his finger
in everybody's face, but my man saw what he saw, right,
and he was not going to be told otherwise.
Speaker 3 (10:28):
But you know what that's I guess that's the TBT.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
And we know how the tvt is a little different
than you know, professional organized sports.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
I would say, see like Archie's getting the blame for
the loss though from not hitting.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
The free throw. Kind of feel bad for Archie, you know,
like he didn't he wasn't a part of this.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
He just just so happened to be the guy who
was chosen to go to the free throw a lot
at that point.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
But yeah, and I think he saw I saw him
post something like, no, that's not how I'm ending this.
I'm definitely running it back next year. So that's great
to hear as somebody that's gotten a lot of love.
But you know, he wanted to win that game versus
his former team.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
And I don't know this elam ending.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
You get to the point where all you need is
a three pointer and everybody forgets that you can shoot twos.
Speaker 2 (11:06):
Right, some of these three point shots are like the
worst form I've ever seen.
Speaker 1 (11:10):
It's like like like.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
Church league shots that are just going up, you know,
like they're just as soon as they get the ball
in their hands, just throwing it up in the air,
just you know, throwing prayers up in the air to
try to knock down the game winning shot. It it really
is hilarious. It turns into like like I said, like
ymc a ball on this elam ending. So like a
lot of times the elam ending is exciting, but it's
not exactly the most pretty basketball in the last couple
(11:33):
of minutes as everybody just you know, frantically tries to
knock down one last shot to get the game winner.
Speaker 3 (11:38):
But boys at dramatic.
Speaker 4 (11:40):
I mean when that ball goes up, I mean I
think everybody's everybody gasp or help hold their breath when
the ball's in the air. But look, it's unfortunate Kentucky
couldn't go much further, maybe one round further than the
Louisville team, so they'll always have that. But a fun
couple games to give us some entertainment in the summer
and hopefully it's something that they can bring back next year.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
All right, So, as I mentioned, and these referees, I
would I want to hear them miked up all the time,
Like if I don't know, if it's just the TBT
guys that are you know, the big characters.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
You know, I don't know what that's. Yeah, yeah, I
don't know that.
Speaker 2 (12:11):
You know, normal referees that are more professional than these
guys are having these types of conversations. But this was
highly entertaining to me and really my favorite part of
the TV team.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
You have audio.
Speaker 1 (12:21):
I have some audio here.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
Now, okay, we mentioned, you know, will he taking the fall.
This was going on throughout the game. It wasn't just
that particular foul where Will Willy took the dive and
you know, sort of irritated the referees. This was back
in the third quarter when it was happening. And here's
some audio.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
You're here one of the refs talking in this audio clip.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
Here we go, stop falling, man, you're just calling You're
falling for no reason.
Speaker 1 (12:50):
I playing for money.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
I mean, I I'm just telling you you're not calling it.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
So I'm just telling you, we're not calling it every
time somebody touches you're falling for no reason. You're out
here playing for money. How about the refs just calling
calling it out as it is.
Speaker 4 (13:12):
Well, having these guys miked up, you hear a lot
like during the Auburn Warready game a couple of nights before,
you heard the Auburn coach yelling at the refs how
much did they pay you, how much you got on
the game talking about bad calls?
Speaker 3 (13:25):
And that's that's just some of the stuff you don't get.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
During a you know, a normal college basketball or football season.
Speaker 3 (13:30):
So maybe you're onto something, Shannon.
Speaker 4 (13:32):
They started doing that in the XFL or USL or
you know, micing up coaches or referees. But you're right,
probably these refs aren't talking, or the professional ones aren't talking.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
As much as these TBT guys are having fun.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
I think the professional ones probably actually know the rules.
I mean, if you watch that game this past weekend,
I mean it was clear that some of the guys
they're referee and don't even know the rules of the game.
Speaker 1 (13:53):
So, uh, you know what, it was a fun run.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
I think the games were highly entertaining, if not for
the game itself, just for the audio that we got
from the referees. And yeah, it was a lot of fun.
So I look forward to running it back again next year.
And like I said, sounds like Archie's already on board
for next year.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
Well, it's good for the current guys, right, you know
when Kentucky hits that game winner versus Warready, it's Jalen
Low that's in the middle of the pile right when
you know he's He's run out onto the court to
celebrate with these guys. They get a better feeling of
what Kentucky is. And so that's a really cool off
season event for guys that are going to be putting
on the Blue and White in the fall every year.
(14:33):
So too bad it came to an end, But that
was an all timer, shann and I will never forget
where I was when the TBT. Reff was screaming, No,
he's got to shoot those free throws.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
He ain't hurt, he.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
Ain't hurt, get him out there. I loved it. A
five nine two twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 2 (14:48):
Mark Pope spoke a little bit about some of the
scrimmagists that the Kentucky basketball team had with the TBT team.
We'll talk a little bit about that. We'll take your
calls coming up next, and a whole lot more right
here on the KSR Pre Show.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
Welcome Back. It is the KSR Pre Show.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yesterday, Billy, a sad day in the world of rock
and roll as we lost one of the biggest names in.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Rock and roll history.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
The legendary Ozzy Osbourne passed away at the age of
seventy six. His family posted on social media that he
died yesterday morning, surrounded by his family and love. And man,
you want to talk about a guy who had quite
a career, quite a life.
Speaker 1 (15:30):
I mean, what a character this guy was.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
There's never been anybody quite like Ozzy Osbourne, and Billy,
I don't think there ever will be another Ozzy Osbourne.
Speaker 1 (15:38):
One of the all time greats in rock and roll.
Speaker 2 (15:41):
Like I said, he had two inductions into the Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame, one of the very few
people who can say that, countless hits and just one
of a kind.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Ozzy Osbourne. Man, what a guy.
Speaker 4 (15:53):
Yes, rest in peace to the Prince of Darkness, the
guy who bit the head off a bat during the
live show and come to find out that he didn't
think that was a real bat, Shannon. It was only
by the horrified looks that he was getting that he
realized that that was an actual, real bat that he
had bit.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
The head off of.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Ozzy was the first concert that I took my fiance to,
a very romantic evening and we're going beyond to watch
Ozzy Osbourne.
Speaker 3 (16:16):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
And you know, core memories of growing up going to
Tampa Bay Buccaneers football games and Crazy Train being the
song that plays before the first kickoff. I mean, that's
just embedded in my memory. So this is a guy
that has contributed a lot to the culture and and
like you said, one of one, there will never be
another Ozzy Osbourne about to reinvent his career and go
(16:37):
into reality TV in the early two thousands. I mean
that became a sensation that show, introducing the world to
his family and his wife, who was a character in
her own right. And you know, I watched a clip
of him doing the seventh inning take me out to
the ball game at a Cubs game, and you know
he wasn't even saying the words, right, he was just mumbling,
but it was that's what I expected, honestly, that's what
(16:59):
I wanted to hear from Ozzy, was not every word
to be said correctly, So I don't know, just definitely
an icon in everything that he did, and somebody that's
in rock radio, I'm sure you've played a couple Ozzy
Osbourne songs over there.
Speaker 2 (17:12):
Yesterday on QBMTH we did something that I don't think
I've ever done before. We did a big tribute when
Tom Petty died on QATH several years ago, but I
don't think we've ever just taken the station over completely
and played nothing but Ozzie and Black Sabbath wall.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
To wall for four straight hours.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
And that's what we did yes Wow four And I
felt like, you know, at first, we were going to
do it for one hour, just from three to four,
and it was like, you know what, no Ozzy, like
I said, I mean, he is one of the biggest
names in rock history. He is just an iconic, legendary figure,
and you know, one hour of just playing Ozzie on
a rock station, I feel like that's not enough. So
we went four straight hours just playing playing the hits.
(17:50):
That's the best way that I know how to pay
tribute to a guy who's had a career like Ozzie.
And you know, think about this, just seventeen or eighteen
days ago, he was up on stage playing his final
show with Black Sabbath, and you know, it was obvious
that he had been dealing with a lot of health issues.
He was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease back in twenty nineteen,
(18:12):
and you know, was to the point to where he
couldn't even walk.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
They had him out there on that throne.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
You and I talked about this just a couple of
weeks ago after it happened, but man, it just felt
like he went out on his own terms. He had
one last, final goodbye, and for it to happen just
a little over two weeks later, it is pretty remarkable
that he was even able to go out there and
perform as he did. And man, just going back and
listening to the version of Mama, I'm Coming Home.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
Yeah, I mean, hearing that now it.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Almost just chokes me up because you can hear in
his voice how sick he is and how much he's
struggling to get through the song. And then in that
video you see it like it'll cut away to some
of the audience members and there's just tears rolling down
their face because they realize in that moment that's the
last time they're ever going to get to hear Ozzy
sing that song.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Extremely powerful to go back and watch it now.
Speaker 3 (19:03):
Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (19:04):
We talk about giving people their flowers before their death,
and that was an opportunity to do so for Ozzie.
I heard that they're making that final show into a documentary.
I think it's Netflix that's going to be doing that
Back to the Beginning Year or something like that. So
that's great that they will immortalize him like that. But
you said he got inducted twice into the Hall of Fame.
How is that possible?
Speaker 2 (19:23):
Well, it was with Black Sabbath as a solo as
a solo artist Ozzi.
Speaker 1 (19:27):
Yeah, so yep.
Speaker 2 (19:28):
And the other thing too, I don't think a lot
of people realize is how charitable he was. Like for
this last performance that he did, they didn't take a penny.
They took all that money that they made, which I
think was close to two hundred million dollars, and they
donated that. So I think it's pretty cool. And back
in twenty fifteen, I didn't even know this until just
(19:50):
reading up on it. He donated ten thousand dollars to
the Lobell Leopards, which was a youth percussion here in
really and I guess they did this cover of Crazy Train.
He loved it so much he showed up to watch
their performance and donate at ten grand to the Global Leopards,
which I thought was pretty cool.
Speaker 4 (20:06):
I had no idea, you know, being a younger one
born in ninety five, I only knew Ozzy really besides
you know, Black Sabbath and this song is really for
his reality show, the pop culture Icon that he.
Speaker 1 (20:17):
Was Sharon, Yeah, Karen who stole by beers.
Speaker 3 (20:20):
It's like, oh, you drank your beers, Ozzi.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
But it was.
Speaker 4 (20:24):
Like, you know, like I didn't have no idea about
the the aspects of charity that he had done with
him in his band.
Speaker 3 (20:30):
So that's that's great to hear.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
But we lost him at seventy six, and but like
you said, glad that we were able to show him
a little love before he passed.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
You got about a little less than a minute.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
Go ahead, Hey Andy.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
All right, what's up? Guys? I'll get right to the
point thinking about the revenue sharing thing. I know, I
believe Matt just reported what they told him and everything
the football people, but I don't believe that they're gonna
speak up and say anything if basketball is indeed getting
forty five percent. The timing of that, I mean, you
(21:52):
think about football, it's just been negative after negative since
November of last year, and I don't think unmuch before
the season going to add to that by saying, yeah,
it's true, basketball get all this much funny more than us.
And I mean you talk about the commitments you talk about, right,
I mean, yeah, people not coming to the games after that.
(22:14):
They don't need that negative vibe going on. I just
I don't. I have trouble believing that still they'd actually
say it if it was true.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
We'll talk more about that coming up next here on
the KSR Appreciow We'll be right back, all right, Welcome back.
It is the KSR pre Show playing some more Ozzy.
I was just thinking, Billy, when you are so iconic
that people just know you by your first name only,
that's how you know you're a legend, Like you know,
there's some athletes out there, and I'm sure we could
(22:44):
you know, try to think of the athletes that you
know just from their first name.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
But I'm not talking about like.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Musicians like uh, you know Share or Madonna because like
that's like do we ever even know Madonna's last name.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
To begin with? You know what I'm talking about is.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Like people who are famous, yeah, Prince, but you don't
know Prince's last name, right. But what I'm talking about
is guys who you know their first and last name,
but you just call them by their first name and
everybody knows who you're talking about immediately. Like if I
say Ozzie's new album and you know what I'm talking
about Ozzy Osbourne. Now in professional sports, you know, I
think lebron Kobe, you know, those names come to mind.
(23:20):
But even like say, I'm not even talking about saying
like Jordan because that's his last name. I'm talking about
guys who you know immediately just by saying their first name.
Speaker 4 (23:29):
Only Well, yeah, I'm sure there's a ton right Uh
you know Shaquille O'Neil or shash as she might go by.
You know, there's there's a lot of people that are
just iconic that you don't need the last name. I
mean if you wanted to go in more pop culture.
I'm thinking of like Oprah.
Speaker 1 (23:46):
That's right, Yeah, Oprah's a good one.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Yeprah? Or does Adele count? Does that account as a
one name one?
Speaker 1 (23:53):
I don't know, but do you know her last name?
Speaker 2 (23:55):
That's what my point is, like, you know their first
and last name, but you only call them by their
first name, and the people know who you're talking about immediately.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Oprah is a good one.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
Ozzy's definitely one of them. Yeah, I mean he's uh.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
I mean, you hear that track too getting ready for
football kickoff and you know Ozzy's there.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
What about for Kentucky athletes Rex?
Speaker 1 (24:12):
You say everybody knows Rex?
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Yeah, I mean Jared Jared.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
I feel like it's one.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Yeah, that's that's one, you say, Jared, you know what
Jared you're talking about?
Speaker 1 (24:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (24:22):
Uh, you got some other ones. I'm sure there's a
ton of other ones. We're just you know, just roofing
their just riffing eight five nine twenty two eighty seven.
You can also send us a text if I have
two two six five six six five six, or at
Shannon the Dude and that Billy are sports on Twitter.
Speaker 1 (24:36):
All right, So the revenue sharing.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
You know, I feel like yesterday on KSR, we were all,
you know, agreeing that Mitch Barnhart should publicly announce how
the revenue.
Speaker 1 (24:46):
Is being split.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Because I feel like, you know, fans des deserve to
know where their money's going. And I also want to
know because if football is not getting a fair shake
at it, I want to know that if football is
getting a significant less amount of money than all the
other SEC schools out there that they're competing with, I
feel like that's important because I'm going to change my
(25:10):
you know, I guess expectations for the football team based
on Okay, are they on the same level playing field
with some of these other SEC programs in football, And
if they're not, then okay, I'm going to temper my
expectations a little bit. I'm not going to expect them
to go out there and get seven, eight, nine wins
every year when they aren't on the same level of
(25:32):
getting their fair shake at revenue sharing. On the flip
side of that, if basketball is getting three times more
than what we're hearing other schools we're getting, like let's
say they're getting nine million, which was reported by Matt
Norlander and other college basketball programs out there are getting.
Speaker 1 (25:48):
Around three million.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
Then I feel like that puts a lot of pressure
suddenly on Mark Pope to go out there and get
immediate results.
Speaker 1 (25:55):
You know, like you did great last year.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
But if you knew going in that they're getting three
six million more when everybody else is getting three million,
I feel like that puts a lot of maybe undue
pressure on the basketball program.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
Not that there wasn't already a lot of.
Speaker 2 (26:10):
Pressure, because there is every year, but I feel like
that adds another layer of pressure knowing that.
Speaker 3 (26:15):
Well, that's kind of what I was gonna get to.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
I feel like there is gonna be that pressure because
you're at Kentucky, no matter you're getting an extra three
million dollars or not when it comes to this revenue payout.
But football, though, I mean, you know, just to remind you,
you know, Vandy did beat Alabama last year.
Speaker 3 (26:31):
It is not all nil dollars.
Speaker 4 (26:34):
It's not all revenue sharing or when it comes to that,
So you still got to light them up and play
the game. But you know, if you were to give
that much money to basketball, you really impact recruiting negatively
for football. I mean, and I think that was the
point that Andy was getting to. If that is true,
that Kentucky basketball would be getting forty five percent of that.
You know, why would Kentucky football say that publicly? That
(26:56):
would impact recruiting? Well, I mean transparency, it's gonna come out, right,
this is all going to be public information at some point.
But like, how do you compete in the SEC when
you have that big of a disadvantage. You're already at
a disadvantage. So, you know, a lot of numbers would
be thrown around yesterday. I want to contribute to that
a little bit. I think my numbers would be close
to thirteen and six, So thirteen to the football, six
(27:17):
to basketball, and then what one point five are close
to two for the other sports, so that that's around
sixty five thirty and five.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
If you do so, you're somewhere in the middle.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Then, because we heard the Norlander report that was nine
million and nine million that we heard fifteen and three, right,
fifteen for football, three for basketball, you're sort of right
there in the middle. And a lot of times when
you hear these reports, the truth is somewhere in the middle.
So you know, maybe maybe you're spot on. You know,
we've heard one extreme to the other and then you know,
(27:51):
maybe the truth is.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Lying somewhere there in the in the middle. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
It's not as extreme as Mario who said, you know what,
screw the football team, Let's just give it all to basketball.
Speaker 4 (28:02):
You know, I mean, if you guaranteed me like three
titles in ten years, if we were to make that
decision to think, yeah, I mean, yeah, maybe I sign
up for that. But like, you know, what football coach
would ever want to come to this program if you
were to be at that much of a disadvantage. I mean,
what recruit would want to go? You know, some breaking
news yesterday that looks like collectives are going to be
able to pay these athletes. Now they're going to be
(28:24):
vetted by third parties, but they will be able to contribute.
That does not include the twenty point five million dollars
that is being given to players. That's added on. So
we'll see how that changes over the next month or two.
But that is a that's part of this pie now
as well.
Speaker 2 (28:39):
Let me also add like when I said, you know,
nine million for football and nine million for basketball, I
guess I didn't know, like what the other programs out
there were spending on basketball at the time. So I said,
you know, you got to be fully invested in your
basketball team. But if you tell me that like all
the other blue blood programs out there are only investing
around three million in that, I like, I actually like
(29:02):
your answer better than my own.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
I'm being completely honest.
Speaker 2 (29:05):
With this because that way, you are spending more than
most programs out there in basketball, but you're also not
just killing the football team.
Speaker 3 (29:15):
It's significantly disadvantaged.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Yeah, so I feel like, you know, when I when
I first get my number of nine and nine, I
need to know, like what's the skill here, you know,
So I feel like.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
That that's more likely.
Speaker 2 (29:28):
You know, I think that there's no doubt the basketball
team is going to be competitive in the amount of
money that they spend, maybe even slightly more. But but
I don't think it's going to be as lopsided as
as the nine million.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Well, I also think you can get players on the
basketball team for just being Kentucky, for being the standard,
for being this factory to the NBA that carries on
even after Cal's gone. You know, the football program didn't
have that, right. You don't just find, you know, feel
the allure of Kentucky football. You got to ask me
how much playing time am I getting? How much you're
paying me. I do like the SEC, but I don't
(29:59):
like it that much. So I mean, that's kind of
shows the advantage of basketball already has over football and
why football needs so much money. Not to mention roster size,
but I'm glad I'm not Mitch Barnhart this guy. I mean,
these are tough decisions to make, and likely when he's
on his way out. Right, he's already been doing this
job for twenty four years. He is the longest tenured
AD in the NCAA. But my man has got some
(30:20):
important decisions to me.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Well, will you hear the report that you know Mark
Stoops is happy or grateful if we want to use
the word grateful for the amount of money they're getting.
I don't think there's any scenario where he would be
grateful to only get nine millions.
Speaker 1 (30:33):
So I think that that report is most likely wrong.
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
I mean, he's hearing it from somewhere, though. I don't
think that Matt Norlanders just making this these numbers up
just out of thin air, with no you know, sources
or no credible sources.
Speaker 4 (30:47):
Well, remember when Mitch was a little slow to embrace
nil and it felt like the you know, the programs
were falling behind because Kentucky would not adapt to the
new landscape. I mean, if Mitch were to give stoops
in the football program million, it would have to feel
just like that. It'd have to be like, you are
not allowing me to compete with the rest of college
football at this point.
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Hey five nine two, twenty two eighty seven. Forty is
up next? Hey forty, what's up?
Speaker 6 (31:11):
Hey, guys, I just wanting to comment on my man, Oh,
the odd Born.
Speaker 1 (31:15):
I was a big fan.
Speaker 6 (31:16):
I always found the English friend accident to be the
most of knowing accident. Like every but dude, I could
listen to old he talk all day long.
Speaker 5 (31:24):
He was the man.
Speaker 3 (31:25):
He cracked me up.
Speaker 6 (31:26):
Yeah, and it's crazy. A couple of weeks ago, when
he was sitting on TikTok that big concert they had
and he did his last performance, everybody just knew that
that was his last performance.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
It's just wild, I thinks turned out two weeks later
he's gone.
Speaker 5 (31:38):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (31:38):
It just blows my mind. Anyway, he was the man.
Speaker 2 (31:41):
Yep, thanks for the call. Forty It's crazy that he
had the street to be able to get up there
and do that. I mean, you know, like I said,
you could hear it in his voice. You could see
it that he just wasn't feeling well, but he wanted
to go out there and give the fans one last,
one last show. And he went out on his own terms. Man,
there's no doubt about that. I I was going through
some old ticket stubs that my dad get and I
tweeted this out yesterday, Billy. My dad's first show that
(32:03):
he ever went to was Black Sabbath in Louisville for
five dollars five bucks. You think about how much, you know,
like you can't get anything. You can't see Alice Bluegown
for five bucks with ever clear anymore.
Speaker 3 (32:17):
I'm paying more to see abg Yeah, you're.
Speaker 2 (32:19):
Paying them a couple of weeks, yeah, exactly. Tickets on
sale Manchester Music all dot collicky. But the thing about
now you buy concert tickets, you know, ticket Master gets
involved and they throw in all these extra fees and
next thing, you know, what you thought you were paying
for like maybe thirty bucks, thirty five bucks for a
concert ticket. You get to that last page to put
your credit card information in and that thirty five dollars
(32:40):
ticket is now ninety. He's like, well, wait a minute,
what's going on with all these extra fees they just
throw on top of it.
Speaker 1 (32:45):
It's crazy.
Speaker 4 (32:46):
Well, not only that, then you don't even get a
ticket stuck, right, you don't even have the five dollars
ticket to pass down to a little dude one day
to remember the first show that you went to. Speaking
of annoying accents, is there anything worse than a Boston accent?
Speaker 1 (33:01):
M yeah, I feel like I'm sure there are.
Speaker 3 (33:04):
I mean that, come on, that's top five though, right.
Speaker 1 (33:08):
Yeah, probably so.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
But I think that if you were to ask somebody
from Boston, they would probably say, you know, a country accent?
You know, shut up Boston maybe us. They probably listened
to the pre show Yard or whatever. Is that your
Boston accent?
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (33:22):
And I won't repeat it either.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
I didn't really get to hear that. I kind of
talked over one.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
How about you do a British accent? That was Forty's
least favorite one? Could you do a British accent?
Speaker 1 (33:31):
No?
Speaker 2 (33:31):
No, I'll leave the accents to Matt. He has like
one or two accents that he does. I'll leave that
to him.
Speaker 4 (33:37):
Mario too, is strong with the not the accents, but
the impressions. He did a Mark Stoop's impression in front
of cutter Bowlie at the football facility the other day.
Speaker 1 (33:45):
Mario's impressions are not good.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Like I didn't say they're so bold, they're funny because
they're so bad.
Speaker 1 (33:51):
Like the.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Same voice, Yeah, yeah, Ryan Lemon impersonation is not even close.
But it's it's funny because he thinks it is. He
thinks it's good. Before we go to the break here
talking a little Kentucky basketball, they had their can we
say it now? Can we say scrimmages? I know that
was like the bad word to say a couple of
weeks ago.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
I'm going to let you get the call from the
athletic department, but yes, well.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Well they had a get together, that's right, a meeting
out on the court where basketballs and hoops may have
been involved.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
Mark still excuse me.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
Mark Pope said that he was very frustrated with the
lack of defense that this Kentucky basketball team was playing
in the in these matchups. We want to call him
that with law familia and look, I know it's It's
only July twenty third, and we overanalyze everything as fans,
But is there like a shred of concern at all
(34:44):
that you know, the Kentucky team wasn't wasn't able to
play well defensively against a bunch of alumni players. I mean, again,
it's only July. They've got a long way to go
before the season starts. But is there any concerned at
all about the defense for this maybe if.
Speaker 4 (35:00):
They would have lost or maybe you know, kind of
got housed. You know, I think the reports were that
in this matchup that maybe it took a little while
for the current team to find their footing, and then
when they did in the second half, they kind of,
you know, took it, took control of the game. But
you remember, some of these guys are veterans. They know
kind of the moves, and I'm sure part of this
is being able to teach these guys a lot of things, right,
(35:21):
not only about the fan base and the love that
they experienced, but little basketball too. So you know, I'm
not going to hold the result of this matchup and
and and say that there's concerns. I would think defense
is going to be a strength for this team. This
year with guys like modha Bote.
Speaker 1 (35:35):
That's what we heard, right, That's what we heard.
Speaker 2 (35:37):
But then you know, Pope Sandy was they said they
really didn't play any defense at all.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
I meantance when he gets healthy, you know, Brandon Garrison,
I hope takes a big step forward this year.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
I think he does.
Speaker 4 (35:47):
But we also got some reports that you know, Yellovich
is somebody that you know should be reporting to campus
at the start of fall semester, and you know, I
guess we'll we'll spend the rest of twenty twenty five
getting him ready to go to play in some conference
game in twenty twenty six. But that's a guy that
I just don't know what to expect from anymore.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Eight five, nine two eight twenty two eighty seven. We'll
go back to the phones.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Coming up next, Hang on, it is the final segment
of the KSR pre Show. On the way, All right,
welcome back, final segment of the KSR pre Show. Players
for Kentucky that you know just by saying their first name.
I got a text actually from one I don't know
how we didn't mention him. Richie, Yeah, Richie ye. Richie
said you can get a bottle of water at a
concert now for five dollars, that's about right.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
What about some other ones? Oscar Willie.
Speaker 2 (36:32):
Well, but if you say mon Oscar, though, you may
be thinking Oscar Combs. You know, if you say Oscar
to a Kentucky fan.
Speaker 4 (36:37):
Yeah, but we never said his last name when he
was playing here, so I think Oscar still counts.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
I mean maybe depends on your age. Of which one
you think.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
Some people are saying boogie and eighty. Yeah, but I'm
talking about like first name, like ad nickname. Yeah, obviously
we know that I'm talking like first name. Do you
know who we're talking about?
Speaker 1 (36:54):
Immediately? You have some other ones on the text line.
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Uh, not really, No, I had Richie and Willie Willy's
ago in.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
Yeah, I feel like Willy. But yeah, I'm sure there's
several others as well.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
I do have bad accents to people are saying Jersey
is probably the worst.
Speaker 1 (37:10):
That's the winner, I think, Yeah, I didn't.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
Think about that one, but yeah, if you're talking to
like most annoying accents, I'm going Jersey number one.
Speaker 4 (37:17):
Oh yeah, the fiance is put on Jersey Shore reunion
last couple of weeks or so.
Speaker 3 (37:21):
So I've been watching that. Yeah, I mean, how do
these how do these shows exist?
Speaker 1 (37:26):
Well?
Speaker 4 (37:27):
Bad reality TV? I mean we're talking Ozzy and maybe
that's where a lot of I do.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Man, I really think that's where that started, because you know,
if you think about it, the Osbourne's was kind of
the first of its kind and it was wildly popular,
and now you've got a ton of those type of
shows that you know, the Osbourne's were great because Ozzie
never knew what the hell was going on and it
was always yelling show right, you know, that was that
was that was part of the uh, the thing that
made it lovable. But some of these other reality shows unlovable?
Speaker 3 (37:54):
About these sprays hands and the clubs.
Speaker 2 (37:56):
Who watched Jerseys, Uh, let's go to the Phanes, Let's
talk to Scott.
Speaker 6 (37:59):
What's ups, hey, guys, how y'all doing?
Speaker 1 (38:03):
We're doing well?
Speaker 5 (38:04):
Good?
Speaker 2 (38:05):
Good?
Speaker 6 (38:05):
Hey, you guys are talking about ticket sales. So I
was born and raised in Dayton, Ohio. Don't hold that
against me, but they had Dayton Ter Arena was a
major concert venue, and so we would go see Kiss, Ozzy,
Iron Maiden, all those guys, and I don't remember paying
(38:29):
over ten dollars for a ticket and it was some
of the funnest times ever. Now you go to concert
and you got a mortgage the house. But I remember,
you know, we didn't pay Harley nothing for a ticket,
and so those were fun times. And anyway, that's my
two cents.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Thanks for the call, Scott, appreciate Thank you, Scott.
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Yeah, I'm not a cell phone in sight.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:53):
Nowadays, I mean the first three four minutes of a
show is everybody with both hands up trying to film
it about the person that's trying to do the same
thing in front of it.
Speaker 1 (39:01):
That's exactly right.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
I was going back and watching some old you know,
Black Sabbath concerts from you know, way back in the
day before cell phones were a thing, and looked like
the crowd was having so much fun. And now you're right, man,
everybody's looking down at their phones or they got their
phones up, you know, in front of everybody else's face,
trying to get video. Like you know, you were all there,
like everybody. You're not going to show anybody anything that
(39:23):
they haven't already seen.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
The grainy snapchat video of the concert you attended. Always
I'm so glad you posted that.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
I got to get to the story before we get
out of here today, Billy, have you seen this firefighter
that is on leave because he sprayed down a high
school baseball field. He rained out the game by getting
the fire truck out and just completely soaking the field.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
And you go, okay, well, why would he do that?
Speaker 2 (39:47):
Well, apparently there was I guess, during batting practice a
flyball at Blair High School that landed in the fire
station's parking lot.
Speaker 1 (39:56):
I'm assuming the parking lots right next to.
Speaker 2 (39:58):
The baseball field, and I guess they hit a firefighter's vehicle. Well,
the firefighter gets upset about this, gets the fire truck,
gets the fire hose, and starts spraying down the field.
Speaker 1 (40:11):
To the point to where it was.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
The game was unplayable, so the Silver Spring to Comba
Thunderbolts game had to be canceled and moved to a
different field. After this Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service
firefighter just completely went off. But my thing is this, Billy, Like,
you know, if you park your car close to a
baseball field, there's a chance that it's going to get
(40:34):
hit by a foul ball or a home run or
whatever it may be. So I don't know how you're
going to get mad at the player for hitting a
ball that you know cracked your windshield or hit your
car or whatever it may be.
Speaker 1 (40:45):
I think it's.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Absolutely absurd, Like why would you get that upset about
it and decide to take matters into your own hands
and rein out the game with the fire hose.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
This is one of the craziest things I've ever heard.
Speaker 4 (40:55):
They're not playing stickball in the street. This is right
next to an official field, so I think you have
to have some assume risk if you're the fire department.
I'm just trying to put myself in that guy's shoes,
Like you're a firefighter. Somebody just hit your truck with
a foul ball, you decide to go get the hose
and drain it on the field for thirty forty five
minutes so they can't play the game now. He's been
placed on leave, I believe, and probably rightly so, Shannon,
(41:18):
because you can't be going in just drenching a field
because you got your feelings and your truck hurt.
Speaker 3 (41:22):
But I'd be pretty salty too.
Speaker 2 (41:24):
Though it's a firefighter, you don't want to make mad.
It'll just show up and just hose you down.
Speaker 4 (41:28):
What a bizarre story there, to go get the hose
in the truck and go rain out the game because
you got hit by a foul ball.
Speaker 3 (41:34):
That is crazy.
Speaker 2 (41:35):
Yeah, it was a wild story. That's going to wrap
