eighty seven. Text line is five two two six five
six six five six b are a whiskey Thief Call
of the day And the KSR Pre Show is being
brought to you by Italics Fine Italian Dining in Lexington,

(00:23):
which is where Billy our Sports is right now over
the Lexington Studio.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Good morning, Billy, how are you?

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Good morning Shannon doing great? What's up?

Speaker 4 (00:30):
Man?

Speaker 3 (00:30):
What's on your mind?

Speaker 4 (00:32):
Well?

Speaker 1 (00:32):
I mean it's it's a somber day. I mean, first
of all being what the twenty fourth anniversary of nine
to eleven, So, I mean that's always a somber day
just because of that alone. And man, I can't stop
watching this stuff about Charlie Kirk yesterday. Man, just being
assassinated while just you know, talking with people doing like

(00:55):
a I don't know what he really does, like a speech,
He debates people, shows up at campuses and you know
does debates. Now I've seen his his videos just you know,
through scrolling through TikTok, Twitter or whatever it may be.
But man, I just I can't I can't stop just
following this whole thing. And apparently the shooter is still
on the loose the last that I saw anyway, And uh,

(01:16):
it's just it's a sad day, man, Like it's I
don't know, like, when do we get to the point
to where you can't disagree with somebody without wanting to
shoot and kill them, Like there's always going to be
people out there that disagree with you, but it's just
it's it's sad that we've gotten to this point in
our world to where somebody doesn't agree with something you say,

(01:39):
and instead of just talking to them or going up
to them face to face and settling your differences with them,
you'd rather just shoot and kill them.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
It's just it's a really sad day.

Speaker 5 (01:50):
Yeah, I think we celebrate our differences in this country.
And my heart was heavy yesterday. I'm praying for Charlie
Kirk's family and everybody that's been involved with the senseless tragedy.
It's and unfortunately, in the age that we live in,
that video circulated pretty quickly.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Awful, terrible, yes I didn't even want to see that.
But I mean if you just if you're on social
media at all, I mean, it's just there.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
I didn't seek it out. You don't have to. It's
it's it's right there in front of you. And yeah,
you're right, man. I mean, this is a guy who
had a family, had kids, had a wife, and because
of a sense less act of somebody murdering him, he
no longer is going to be a husband or a
father to those kids.

Speaker 3 (02:34):
Yeah, and this is an important conversation.

Speaker 5 (02:36):
I'm glad you started here, Shannon, because it just felt
different yesterday, didn't it, Like just the country seemed angry
and people expressing their opinions online. Look, we need to
have these conversations. We need to have these tough conversations.
And I believe Charlie Kirk was doing that to a
degree on college campuses across this country.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
So violence is never the answer.

Speaker 5 (02:58):
In the political violence that we've seen over the last years,
year or years has just been disgusting. People showing up
at people's door in the middle of the night, you know,
even the thing that happened on the subway system earlier
this week.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
I mean, there violence is never the answer.

Speaker 5 (03:15):
And I just I'm afraid we're slipping and it's a
slippery slope. And these things continue to happen. You don't
know what's going to happen next. So on this anniversary
of nine to eleven, while we think about the people
that were impacted by that tragedy, we also find ourselves
in a very interesting time in our life here in
the United States of America.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Yeah, and let's not act like it just started a
year or two ago. I mean, this has been going
on in our country for years and years and years.
The disappointing thing for me is all these years later,
we haven't evolved. We are just as bad in a
lot of ways when it comes to mass shootings in
our country as it has been for years. But it

(03:55):
seems like it's getting worse. And maybe that's because of
social media. We see, you know, so much more of it.
I mean, there was also a shooting in Colorado at
a at a high school yesterday. I mean I felt
like that kind of got swept under the rug because
of the Charlie Kirks.

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Didn't even know that.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Yeah, and that and that the worst part about it
is things like that become you know, just another news
event and it never should be these are these are
senseless tragedies, and you know, it's you know, what do
we do, Shannon, We'd continue to have conversations.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
We don't get tribal, I mean, but.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
I mean that's all Charlie Kirk was doing yesterday, was
having a conversation and he got shot. I mean, I
don't know what the answer is. I don't think anybody
has the answers. If if they did, we wouldn't have
gun violence like we do in this country. But it's
you know, it feels like it's hitting a boiling point.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
It's sad.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
I don't want to dwell on it this show, but
I do feel like we do need to acknowledge it.
We do need to mention it here, and I don't
really know what else to say about it. I guess
we can leave it at that. But yeah, and then
the nine to eleven stuff just you know, be in
what it is today is just piles on top of
it makes it even more of a somber day.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
But it's a day of reflection, right, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (05:05):
It makes you, I think, very grateful for the things
that you do have in your life and realization that
things can be, you know, taken from you in a
matter of just seconds. And so it makes me really
grateful that we have a community like this, that we
can talk about our differences and talk things out and
I think bring people closer together.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
One thing about this that we always have this conversation
I feel like every year that makes me feel old
and makes me remember how young you are is when
we talk about every year what you were doing on
nine to eleven, Because you know, that's one of those things.
There are certain events that happen in your life where
if you're old enough to remember it happening, you're never
going to forget where you were in that moment. And

(05:45):
like for me, I was a Lindsay Wilson in college,
and Billy, I think you were still in diapers right.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
First or second grade.

Speaker 5 (05:52):
I had the same teacher in both grades, and so
I can't remember which one it was. Watching it on
the TV in the classroom, parents, you know, coming to
check kids out of school, the chaos that ensued afterwards
watching the news. I mean, but in college, stand and
I mean you you probably took it much differently than
I did it.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Oh yeah, yeah, of course, But I mean even in college.
I mean it was it was sort of hard to comprehend.
So I can imagine, you know, being a kid, not
really understanding and the impact of that. But when you
were in class, did you have like when you had
you said you had TV. Did you have like a
TV mounted on the wall, or did you have the
teacher that would roll in like the big box TV
on a cart. Because when I was in like elementary school,

(06:35):
like during like March Madness, if Kentucky was playing an
early game, the teacher would let us watch the game
if we were good, but she would bring in this
big box TV on the cart and roll it into
the classroom.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
Did you have that as a kid or is that
just me being old and.

Speaker 5 (06:52):
You're taking me down a nostalgic lane here When you
when they wheeled out that TV, you knew we were
watching Bill night or it was you know, it was
it was going to be something fun in that instance,
it wasn't. It was you know, we were shocked and
watching the scenes develop in front of our eyes. And
and like you said, as a kid that age not
really knowing what's going on to the full degree. But

(07:14):
you're right striking you just you remember where you were
at you remember what was going on, no matter what
age you were, and you know this is again a
day of reflection for things like that. But yeah, the
TV coming out, man, there was no many better things.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
And you said you were a Bill ny guy. I
was a Beakman Beakman's World. Do you know what that is?

Speaker 4 (07:33):
Now?

Speaker 1 (07:33):
It was Beakman was this guy. It was kind of
like Bill Nyle a little bit. But he I don't
know how long his show ran. It may not have
had a long run. But it was this guy Beakman,
who wore this green lab coat and he had this
really high spiked hair. I'm talking like when I say
high spiked here, I'm talking like.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
A foot toll above his head.

Speaker 1 (07:52):
And he was like a scientist and he would teach
you about, you know, different.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Things and how things work.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
And he also had like this sidekick guy that was
dressed up as a rat. You have to google it
and look it up. Like, if you're of my age,
you probably know what i'm talking about. If you're younger
than me or older than me, you probably have no
idea what I'm talking about. But Beakman's World, I'm just saying,
had a big impact on this on me for like
shows that we had to watch back in elementary school.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
I'm looking at a picture now, he's got the neon
green blazer right in the hair that looks like he
just something blew up in his face. I get that, yeah,
But I'm looking at this rat sidekick who's got a
white undershirt on and a cut off a rat suit
with like a plastic nose, and then he's got like
a heart tattoo on his arm. So it's like, I
don't know, did they get this actor off the streets, like.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
It looks like like a Chuck E Cheese character, misfit that.

Speaker 3 (08:45):
Like a strung out Chuck E Cheese character.

Speaker 1 (08:47):
I think he was supposed to be the lab rat
looking back on it, but I'm not sure it's.

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Got real dark arm hair.

Speaker 5 (08:55):
I mean just kind of just I don't know, it's
like a obviously in your face.

Speaker 3 (08:59):
This isn't a rat. This is a man dressed in
a rat.

Speaker 5 (09:01):
But I guess this was Bill night Light before Bill.

Speaker 1 (09:05):
Night I don't know if he was before or during
or after maybe like the t move version of Bill
knighte Beacon's World. But anyway, all right, so let's try
to talk about some happier things. First of all, all right,
we'll get into this a little bit later on. I don't
want to dig too deep into it right now, but
Bourbon and Beyond starts the day. I'll play some Bourbon
and Beyond fest bands who are going to be at
the show as we go throughout here on the pre

(09:27):
show this morning. And of course Kentucky takes on Eastern
Michigan coming up this Saturday. It's a seven thirty kickoff ESPN.
You Zach Calzada still hasn't practiced all week long, which
I think makes it obvious that Cutter Bully is going
to be the starting QB. I'm expecting Kentucky to absolutely
run over this team. Eastern Michigan lost their first game

(09:51):
to Long Island. They then got destroyed against was it
Texas State? I think it was like fifty two twenty
seven something like that. I try to remember the score.
But Kentucky, I think we'll have their way with this
Eastern Michigan team. This is also a team that gave
up over six hundred yards so far this year rushing,
so I think it plays perfectly into Kentucky's offense.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Is strategy.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
What they want to do with dal Dell running the ball,
and I expect Kentucky to have a big win on Saturday.

Speaker 5 (10:20):
Yeah, And I think we're at a point where if
Kentucky doesn't win by multiple touchdowns, you might be a
little concerned. If the receivers aren't able to get separation
against a team that's not able to be you know,
Long Island, then you may be in for a really
long year. And I think that obviously the conversation around
this game will be dictated by the quarterback spot and
how Cutter Bowlly does is it looks like he's going

(10:42):
to get the start, and a caller brought this up
a couple of weeks ago, and it's kind of playing
out like this, and this might be the perfect scenario
to allow Cutter to get his feet wet versus Eastern
Michigan and he goes into a bye week where he's
allowed to work on some things and then he gets
ready for South Carolina. If you're going to make that
shift and the injury is significant enough to go from

(11:03):
Calzada to to Cutter Bowlie, then this is I think
the perfect timing for all that we've seen flashes of
Cutter playing really well, maybe not at times versus Texas
or at Louisville, but you know, maybe at other times
against Texas, and he did look good. I think there's
a lot of optimism in that building a round Cutter.
So the sooner he gets on the field, and maybe

(11:25):
Kentucky can reach their ceiling even sooner. But it's a
must win.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Shaneon I oh, yeah, I mean goes without saying, of course, yeah,
I don't even entertain this is a team you should
absolutely destroy. DraftKings has Kentucky is a twenty four and
a half point favorite. I think they win bigger than that.
But you're right, I think this is a game that
Cutter can can get in in, you know, feel comfortable
out there, you know, maybe not have to feel pressure
to have to throw the ball a whole lot, just

(11:50):
to be able to get some in game experience that
I feel like that he needs. And it should be,
you know, one of those feel good wins on Saturday,
which we don't get a whole lot of at Kroger Field.

Speaker 5 (11:59):
But there is a possibility that this game is like
twenty four to seven, right, it's just Stoop's ball. It's
it's disappointing the offense can't get going. We've we've seen
that play out before. But I mean, if you're in
the SEC and you've been getting disrespected a lot by
the media, being ranked the last out of last place
when it comes to the rankings, this is this is

(12:19):
the time where you can maybe show your operation is
a little bit smoother, maybe not get too complicated like
they were doing in the last game, and work on
some things that you can really build on it. I
think this is a big step in Kentucky becoming, you know,
any a team that could get to bawl eligibility. They
got to really start clicking finding things out this week.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Yeah, Like I said, dald All and McGowan, this is
their game to just run all over this team. I
did find it interesting though, that Stoop said that Calzada
would be available. He said that we're gonna see Cutter
Bowley one way or another. He still didn't say he's
going to start, but come on, right between the lines,
I think we know Cutter Bowley's going to start the game.
But he did say that Calouzada would still be available.
I don't think there's any scenario, though, Billy, that we

(13:00):
would have Kalzada play in this game, because why would you.
I mean, I don't think there's going to be a
situation where you would need him. But I'm just interested
to see, like, what is the extent of Kalazada's injury.
Apparently it's not so bad that he has just ruled
completely out of the game. So I'm wondering, like, if
it weren't Eastern Michigan on the schedule next, maybe it

(13:20):
were South Carolina this week instead, would we be seeing
Cutter Bowley or Calzada. I think that the opponent weighs
heavily into Stoop's decision to play Cutter Bully.

Speaker 5 (13:30):
Yeah, I'm not sure, but it was striking to hear
Stoops talk so candidly about wanting to see Cutter Bowley right.
It was you know, we're going to evaluate Calzadda and
see where he's at. But regardless, Cutter will play and
we will see action out of him. That's somebody that
I don't know if impatience the right word, but somebody
that wants.

Speaker 3 (13:48):
To see what that guy can do.

Speaker 5 (13:49):
And so maybe the opponent being Eastern Michigan is the
perfect time for that.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Yeah, I don't know. I still think bo Allen's on
the roster.

Speaker 5 (13:57):
I mean that guy is considered a coach on the
side line by those guys by how much experience he has,
So I don't know if he would be thrust it
into that spot before injured Calzada, but essentially against this team,
if it were ever to get to that, all he
had had to do is hopefully hand the ball off
late in the game because you've already got a two
or three touchdown lead, but opportunity for some young guys

(14:17):
to get some action, and that's always exciting to see
the future of the team. But you get a win
and you go into a bye week, can hopefully build
that momentum for that.

Speaker 3 (14:25):
South Carolina can.

Speaker 1 (14:26):
Just be careful betting on DraftKings the over under of
passing yards for Coder Bowley. Don't get burned like I
did with Jordan Love, where the Kentucky's up so big
in the fourth quarter they don't even pass the ball
one time and you get burned by being over about
twelve yards.

Speaker 2 (14:40):
And lose your bet on draft Kings. It'd be a first.

Speaker 5 (14:42):
Half, excuse me, first half spread game, because you know
that motivation might be much different in the second.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Oh, you think you think he'll be less motivated. I mean,
come on, we already got motivated Mark Steves. Don't take
the motivation away from him.

Speaker 5 (14:54):
Well, yeah, there's a point where you get some backups
in and you make sure nobody important gets hurt. So
that could happen against Eastern Michigan, or like I said,
it could be twenty four to seven, twenty four to ten,
and it's the fourth quarter and people are losing their mind.
But I'll be optimistic and think they'll cover that spread
pretty easily.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
All right, we'll take your calls. Coming up next eight
five to nine, two to eight, oh, twenty two eighty seven.
We'll talk some more Kentucky football. We'll talk well, we
got to talk about Bourbon and Beyond coming up. I'm
a little disappointed you're not going to be with me
at Bourbon and Beyond at all this weekend. You're you're
leaving during the world's largest Bourbon food and music festival
right here in Kentucky. Billy, Where are you going that's
going to be so important that you can't come hang

(15:31):
out at Bourbon and Beyond.

Speaker 5 (15:32):
I know, I just saw a map of Bourbon and
Beyond this year, it's like double the size from last year.
They've they've kind of moved it to the side. It's
a I'm going to Harbor Springs, Michigan. I've got an
eight hour drive later today, so I've got drinking some coffee. Now,
we'll pick up an energy drink on the way.

Speaker 1 (15:47):
There another bachelor party where you're going to get left
out on your own.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
No, no, I no, I'm not doing any of that.
Going to a wedding, a family wedding.

Speaker 5 (15:55):
But you know, how many times do you think I
stopped for the bathroom on an eight hour drive.

Speaker 1 (16:00):
If you're me, you only stop one time, and that's
when you need gas one time. I'm telling you, I
did a ten hour trip to Florida, one stop, one stop.

Speaker 3 (16:08):
That's impressive.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
One stop.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
I guess you're not drinking any liquid.

Speaker 2 (16:11):
Well, yeah you are, but you're not. Just you know,
you gotta pace yourself.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
You gotta make sure your time your bathroom breaks with
your gas brakes. So just as the gas gauge is
going down, my bladder level is going up, and if
it meets there in the middle, then it's the perfect
time to stop and you time it out where you
don't have to keep stopping. Okay, It's not the worst
than being on a road trip with somebody who has
to stop every forty five minutes because they got an
old man bladder and they have to pee.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
There's take you forever to get there. If you're going
with that person or.

Speaker 5 (16:40):
You're on a road trip, you are that person with
a forty five minute bladder and the person driving is
not stopping the vehicle another minute.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
And may describe some participants in the KSR Road Trip.
I won't name any names. We'll take a break right now,
we'll take your calls. Coming up next it is the
KSR pre Show, Welcome Back. It is the KSR pre
Show and the Dude and Billy Rutledge. If you're listening live
right now, you're hearing Collective Soul.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Collective Soul.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
You know this song, don't you come on?

Speaker 3 (17:07):
Oh yeah, of course, yeah yeah.

Speaker 2 (17:11):
This is a great song though Shine Look for Me.

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Collective Soul is probably a top ten nineties band, like
if we're going nineties, like grunge era type of band
that came out in the nineties.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
I would put them in my top ten. Love them.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
They are playing tonight like a eight o'clock. So I'm
gonna be over on that. They're not even on the
main stage, Billy, I'm going house. Collective Soul not going
to be on the main stage. But they're not. It's
still they get Alabama Shakes over there. Do you know
who Alabama Shakes are?

Speaker 5 (17:39):
No, I'm a little disappointed they're on the main stage
over Collective Soul too.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Do they have a song?

Speaker 1 (17:44):
I know, like maybe one. But let's go through some
of the bands. Let's see how many of these bands
playing at Bourbon and beyond.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Does Billy know?

Speaker 1 (17:52):
All right, I'm not going to go to the very
very bottom. I'm gonna go like I'm gonna go like
midway through the bill. Okay, the old ninety sevens?

Speaker 3 (18:01):
No, I was born in ninety five, so how could
I know the old ninety seven.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
Well, I mean you would have been too, I mean
you were alive. Then you said, yeah, the old ninety sevens?

Speaker 2 (18:09):
All right? What about Blind Melon?

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Oh? Yes, no rain, no rain.

Speaker 5 (18:16):
Listen to a lot of Blind Melon used to be
able to play a song by Blind Mellon on the guitar.

Speaker 3 (18:19):
But I guess they got a new singer. So what
they're doing they did yeah.

Speaker 1 (18:22):
Their original singer who was also named Shannon Uh yeah,
he passed away in the nineties.

Speaker 2 (18:28):
Anyway, Cage the Elephant.

Speaker 3 (18:30):
Yeah, you know who they are, bowling green paper.

Speaker 1 (18:32):
Right, you're part of western Kentucky. You're sort of your
neck of the woods.

Speaker 2 (18:36):
I guess right. What about John Waite?

Speaker 3 (18:41):
No, no, never waited for John Waite's song to come
on the air.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
I played that song on KSR, I think it was
last week, And I know Matt's a big fan of
one of the John Waite songs. The lumineers of the
headlining band, you know them, right, I do?

Speaker 3 (18:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:54):
And then Pat Benatar Yeah, I know Pat all right,
so you know some of them.

Speaker 2 (18:59):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (18:59):
I did a lot about it than I thought. That's
all today.

Speaker 2 (19:02):
That's all today, Yep, Bourbon and beyond.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
I went out there to the Highland Festival grounds yesterday
to kind of see the new layout.

Speaker 2 (19:10):
Can we be honest?

Speaker 3 (19:10):
How is it?

Speaker 4 (19:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (19:11):
No, please be on just me and you right like
I'm you know, I'm not gonna get I'm not gonna
get any criticism for saying that I don't like the
new layout, am I?

Speaker 3 (19:19):
Oh you don't.

Speaker 2 (19:20):
I don't like it at all.

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Man because it's on the concrete.

Speaker 1 (19:24):
Yeah, so I mean, I know a lot of people
listening probably are going to go to Bourbon and Beyond
at some point this weekend, and yeah, it's on the concrete.
They've got like the two main stages are kind of
like in front of the South Wing if you've been
out to the Kentucky State Fair you know what I'm
talking about. And they've got artificial turf laid down, so
it's like just throwing carpet over.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Top of concrete.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
And then they've got the other stages like on the
other side, like on the other side of Kentucky Kingdom,
but not inside Kentucky Kingdom, although I think there is
one or two stages actually inside of a Kentucky Kingdom.
Are they really they're inside the park the wea they
are like a you know, like the not even the
secondary stages. But they have seven stages. Keep in mind,
so you got the two main ones, and then you

(20:07):
got the two like secondary stages, so there's four, and
then you got I think like one stage actually inside
of Kentucky Kingdom, and then I don't know, one or
two scattered throughout the rest of the festival grounds.

Speaker 2 (20:19):
But they kind of have us, Billy, tucked.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Away like like the ugly step child, like off in
the corner, like where you have to really look to
try to find. It's like we are off in a
nook in the new layout, and before you know, we.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Were right there.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
What do you mean, Yeah, you were right there when
you walk down. Oh yeah, no, we still got the
big boombox. Don't get me wrong, it's still there, and
you know, I think that's cool. But we are tucked
away in a corner, like in a nook. When you
come out there, like you you're gonna have to really
try to It's almost like a seeking find trying to
find where we're going to be set up out there.
So look again, we haven't started it yet, but just

(20:54):
looking at it, I don't like the layout.

Speaker 5 (20:56):
I will say that, well, it does sound bizarre. Laying
down turf was the decision made to move it just
because they were rained out loud?

Speaker 2 (21:03):
I think this year, I think that had a lot
to do with it.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
And I think that they also realized they had more
space over in that area, more shade so and then
the cool thing about it is though this year, Billy,
you get to go inside Kentucky Kingdom, Like that's part
of it. So you can go, you know, get yourself
a belly full of beer and then you can go
jump on the tea cups and the tilt to whirl
or the Himalayas and you know what could possibly go
wrong there after you've been drinking bourbon all day, you know.

Speaker 5 (21:28):
Yeah, I can handle the Himalayas. I mean, not much
more if I'm having a beer before it. But the Himalayas,
man find until they start going backwards. Yeah, and then
I got to close my eyes.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
And why is it always so loud?

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Like it has like the alarms going off and the
music is like blasting on eleven Like I never understood that.
But every version of that, even like at the Kentucky
State Fair, the Himalayan thing that just goes around in
a circle, they had like the loudest possible music and
like horns and alarms going off, and I'm like, is
that necessary to have this?

Speaker 2 (21:58):
I don't know.

Speaker 5 (21:59):
Really, it's like fever dream. Yeah it is yea with
all modern pop music a lot of times too. So
it's a big big hit with the kids, no doubt,
and the uh the one ride that they had at
the State fair that didn't want to get on.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
Was the alien thing, like the.

Speaker 1 (22:12):
Gravity just holds you up against the wall. Yeah, I
was like, I'm not getting on that thing. You're telling me, like,
I don't have anything strapping me in, it's just gravity
holding me against the wall.

Speaker 2 (22:20):
Is this thing that spins around in a circle.

Speaker 3 (22:22):
That tea cups for adults?

Speaker 1 (22:24):
Yeah, exactly. All right, we'll take a break, We'll come
right back. It is the KSR pre Show.

Speaker 2 (22:28):
All right, welcome back.

Speaker 1 (22:29):
It is the KSR Pre Show eight five, nine, two eighth,
twenty two eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (22:33):
Billy, this is the luminearir deal.

Speaker 1 (22:35):
Look, I mean, I guess I'm in the minority here
because this is the only Lumineer song that I know.
And it can't be the fact that most people only
know this one song. If they're popular enough to headline
Bourbon and Beyond Fast, I didn't know they were that popular,
that they would be like the main band of the day.

Speaker 5 (22:52):
Oh, they had their moment in the sun, no doubt.
It felt like it was a few years ago, though.

Speaker 2 (22:55):
But I mean, do you know any other songs other
than this song?

Speaker 3 (22:58):
No? But this was big. I mean, this was this
is a popular one.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Yeah, but it'll we to the point now or a
band with one hit can now headline?

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Oh Burke beyond.

Speaker 3 (23:08):
There's a lot of one hit wonders out there.

Speaker 2 (23:09):
Yeah, but they're not headlining, is my point?

Speaker 1 (23:11):
Sure, they're all playing at you know, two o'clock in
the afternoon.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
Yeah, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (23:16):
I guess they decide who the biggest band, biggest draw is.
That's who the headliners are, Shinnon, That makes sense. But
why the lumineers would be I don't know. Maybe you're
looking for that younger crap.

Speaker 2 (23:26):
Yeah, probably so.

Speaker 1 (23:27):

a three and a half point favorite. Do you think
the Packers get it done? They look great against the Lions.

(23:49):
H What do you think, Billy?

Speaker 5 (23:51):
I'm buying a lot of stock in Green Bay right now.
If Mike Parker Parsons can stay healthy Jordan Love, he's
got two thumbs. I'm ready to roll with green Bay,
especially at home in Lambeau.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
So here's what I'm going to do.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
I told you first segment, I screwed up by betting
the over on yards for Jordan Love. I'm going to
do it again tonight, but I'm going to take the
ghost leg. I was talking about the ghost leg out
at corn Bread Hemp the other day. I don't know
if you've done this. It's a bonus that's a part
of this, and you can put together your parlay and
if one leg doesn't hit, you still get paid.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
How about that.

Speaker 3 (24:23):
Last leg that does it for me?

Speaker 2 (24:24):
Exactly? They always say it. They always say it's the
last one anyway.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
Shannon, I got something for you.

Speaker 5 (24:57):
When you go to the gym or you a headphones guy,
you got to you're playing you're bumping some music when
you go to the gym, right.

Speaker 1 (25:02):
Yeah, But I'm not like the I've seen a lot
of people, I guess in the last couple of years
or so, do like we have these headphones in the
studio that go over top of your head, you know,
for the air I'll see people working out with those,
and I'm going, I guess that's like the newest Beats
by Dre style. But I'm not going to work out
like that. I like the ear pods for me. Yeah,

(25:23):
I'm the same way.

Speaker 5 (25:25):
Even if you have over the ear headphones, I'm still
might come up to you and fist bump you and
say good job on your workout. But Channon, Apple just
announced they're releasing the air Pod threes on September nineteenth.
They're going to have a longer battery life, better noise cancelation,
and it uses AI for a live translation of other
languages if you were to speak to somebody in a

(25:47):
different language.

Speaker 1 (25:47):
Oh so if you come up to me and you say,
good job, do you need a lift?

Speaker 2 (25:52):
In Spanish?

Speaker 5 (25:53):
It could translate that head we'll act yeah, live translate
for you. Well, that's cool, it is, and I believe
it's not even that pricey. I believe it's under three
hundred dollars for the air pod three. So that's seems
like a significant jump in technology. We've always had Google Translate,
But now that I can wear an air pod and
go to a different country and live translate, that's well,
pretty handy.

Speaker 1 (26:14):
If you remember, I'm considering going back to like the
old school, just you know, wired headphones. That just kind
of well, I mean, do you not remember my story
of my struggles with EarPods at the gym?

Speaker 2 (26:25):
Do you not remember what happened?

Speaker 3 (26:27):
You dropped one?

Speaker 4 (26:27):
Right?

Speaker 1 (26:28):
Not only did I drop it, I dropped it into
the toilet and had to fish it out and put
it back in my ear. And I'm going this would
not happen if I had the ones with the cord
on them that I just plug right into my phone.
So those ear pods have caused me a lot of
trouble over the years, and now I got one side
that won't work. I don't know if you've had that before,
but I thought maybe it just needed to be charged.
Now I'm you know, if I'm let's say I'm mowing

(26:48):
the lawn, I like to listen to podcasts or music
while I'm doing that. I got one side that works
and one side that doesn't. And I'm going this is
much more trouble than if you just plug in the
old school headphones with the cord.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
You don't have that problem.

Speaker 1 (27:00):
So I'm considering throwing those iPods back in the toilet
and going back to the old school wired connection because
that's tried and true.

Speaker 5 (27:07):
I thought I saw a study that ear pods aren't
really good for your ears. Shannon, you might be doing
some damage to your ears sticking that thing in there.
But you know what, I'm not gonna take that out
of content isolate that. Uh yeah, I'm surprised you don't
have hearing loss for being in radio for trying.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
I probably do, I probably and then going to concerts
after that, you know, we're probably have here exactly, God
blessed Joby Hall. But the yeah, wearing headphones basically from
seven in the morning until you know, later on in
the day, and then playing in a band and then
going to see other bands play.

Speaker 2 (27:42):
Yeah, I'm surprised they don't know.

Speaker 3 (27:43):
I think it was Vanetti.

Speaker 5 (27:44):
I picked up some headphones he had just used back
when I was in the Louisville building, And I mean,
I'm still feeling that.

Speaker 2 (27:50):
They cranked all the way up to ten.

Speaker 1 (27:52):
They were, yeah, like jolts to Then you turn them
on and they're like, Wow, they're listening to music that loud.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
No wonder he's screaming all the time.

Speaker 1 (27:59):
Yeah, nine two twenty two eighty seven. Let's go to
the phones and talk to Michael. Hey, Michael, Hey, Michael, Michael.
All right, all right, there was that you? Or is
that Michael making that noise?

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (28:13):
That was me. I was doing a little stretching.

Speaker 2 (28:15):
Oh okay, no, Michael, Well you're speaking of stretching.

Speaker 1 (28:19):
You have a new sponsor called what the stretch Stretch
Lab Stretch Lab.

Speaker 5 (28:25):
Yeah, it is the newest sponsor of the ksrpre Show
and Bogies with Billy Shannon. They are paying me for
my golf videos. It is a full circle moment here
for Billy r Sports. But if you don't know what
Stretch Lab is, it's a boutique fitness franchise that offers customized,
one on one assisted stretching by a trained flexologist in
a modern and friendly communal environment. At Stretch Labs, clients

(28:46):
are able to achieve a more advanced stretch than one
that they can get on their own. Some benefits of
assisted stretching include improved posture, increased range of motion, reduce stress,
and reduces muscle and joint pain. Whether you're or golfer,
maybe you have some chronic pain, maybe you're looking just
for a little bit more flexibility. I've been going to
Stretch Lab over the last couple weeks and it is incredible.

(29:08):
They are stretching things I didn't even know that I had, Shannon,
and they also send me home with some homework that
I can do on my own. We'll talk a little
bit more about Stretch Lab as the week's progress, but
for you, you can follow them on social media at
stretch Lab Lexington on Facebook or Instagram, and for a
limited time you can get a fifty minute one on
one assisted stretch for only forty nine dollars if you

(29:30):
mentioned Bogies with Billy when you call the studio.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
I'm serious.

Speaker 5 (29:33):
Folks mentioned Bogies with Billy get a fifty minute one
on one assisted stretch for forty nine dollars. They have
a location in Lexington, also another location in Fort Wright.
But if you go to the website stretch lab dot com,
you can put in the promo code and learn more
about assisted stretching at stretch Lab.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
So I got a call up Stretch Lab and say
Bogies with Billy and I get that deal. You get
that deal, I feel then you'll come in well silly
saying Bogeys with Billy. But I feel like if it
saved me money, I would say it.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
Oh, it absolutely will save you some money, and then
it's gonna make you feel a little healthier too.

Speaker 1 (30:05):
All right, So check that out big thanks to stretch
Lab for and a part of the pre show. All right,
So we got to talk a little volleyball. UK Volleyball
lost in three straight sets to number seven Pittsburgh last night.
I feel like our spikers weren't spiking hard enough Billy.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
That's my analysis of the game.

Speaker 1 (30:21):
If you listen to our interview or match interview yesterday
with a coach Skinner. I told him, Matt, I said,
you know, you were great at interviewing people about things
that you have no idea about. And I met that
as a compliment. He is, he's really good at because
I'm like, you know, you bring on a.

Speaker 3 (30:33):
Volleyball got away for a compliment. Yeah, are you going
to ask him?

Speaker 1 (30:37):
Yeah, you've been playing a tough schedule. Bump, set, spike,
let's go. But no, I mean credit to Craig's Skinner
for playing I think the toughest volleyball schedule that's ever
been assembled. He's also got another top ten coming in
SMU this weekend, so it's not gonna get any easier. Wait,
he's got another top ten TEAMU SMU this weekend.

Speaker 5 (30:55):
So you went to Nebraska, Penn State, Pittsburgh and now
SMU SMU all top ten team, and I.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Believe Louisville later on is a ranked team as well
coming up. Wow.

Speaker 5 (31:04):
Well I got a hand it to the former case
our pre show co host and testing his team early
so that they're prepared for the NCAA tournament. Yeah, it
was when Matt was trying to pronounce Laverarro or whatever
that I think we kind of could tell. But at
the same time, I guess, you know, you kind of
run out of energy eventually. Maybe you finally just caught

(31:24):
back up with him after being swept by Pittsburgh. But
hopefully they can rebound and continue to play well because
this team's got high expectations this year after this run.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Let's go to Sam. Hey, Sam, good morning morning, Sam.

Speaker 4 (31:36):
Oh Hey, how you all doing good?

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Yeah?

Speaker 6 (31:41):
No, I was just calling no, no, the football has been
kind of rough. Like you said, Channon, we should have
our way with Eastern Michigan. But what is it that
it takes the guys seven years to figure all this out?
And I don't know, I don't see any improvements from
his past or anything. What do you think it is?

Speaker 1 (32:04):
You know, like, if you're just looking at the first
two games, he seems to have gotten worse. Now, again,
it's only two games, so let's not judge Calazada's time
here at Kentucky off of the first two games. But yeah,
I mean, if you looked at we were talking about
it yesterday, Billy just going through his stat lines from
the last couple of years. But pretty impressive, right, but
then the first couple of games here he struggled. And

(32:26):
I don't know, does it go back to the offensive
coordinator or the plays that are called not fitting in
with the scheme that Pushamton's trying to run.

Speaker 2 (32:33):
I'm not really sure. I think it could be a
list of all the above.

Speaker 5 (32:37):
Yeah, I think knowledge of the system that you're in
goes a long way, right. There's also I'm sure some
timinus going down a level to incarnate word and then
coming back and then playing in the SEC.

Speaker 3 (32:48):
I don't think it's like one factor.

Speaker 5 (32:49):
It's probably a little bit of all these different things
that play into a part of a quarterback not playing well.
But to the caller, I would say, you know, some
of the best quarterbacks only stay two or three years, right,
They've stay for as little as possible before they're gone
to the NFL. You have a quarterback that's maybe in
their sixth or seventh year. Maybe it's just never gonna
click with that guy, But at the same time, he's

(33:10):
shown flashes and maybe the reason why Mark Stoops and
Kentucky brought him in.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
All right, So yeah, I totally agree.

Speaker 2 (33:17):
I appreciate it, man, all Right, thank you to call.

Speaker 1 (33:19):
You know, I'm not convinced that Calasada is not going
to be the starting quarterback moving forward. I think a
lot of people maybe think that Cutter Bowley's just going
to take this job and run off with it, and
Calosada is going to be on the bench the rest
of the year.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
I'm not how I kind of see it.

Speaker 2 (33:32):
You see it that way already.

Speaker 5 (33:34):
It's just tough to take a guy out if he
were to come in and play well. Right, Like, Let's
say Cutter comes in throws four touchdowns against Eastern Michigan. Okay,
Cazada back in as the starter versus South Carolina. I mean,
that's I think that'd be an unpopular opinion even if
you want.

Speaker 2 (33:48):
But at some point you got to go with one
or the other.

Speaker 1 (33:50):
Right, And I've been saying this the last couple of days,
but are you going to compare what Calzada did against
Toledo and Ole miss versus what Cutter Bully did again
Eastern Michigan?

Speaker 2 (34:00):
Is that fair?

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (34:02):
No, that's that's definitely part of it, right, the weaker
competition that Cutter faces, Calzada against an SEC team and
then versus Toledo which is the first game of the year,
and everybody's got a little jitters for that first game.
So that's an absolutely fair conversation. But that's why Mark
Stoops is paid how many millions of dollars these decisions.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
You got to make a tough decision, but you know, again,
you got to pick one or the other. I don't
think you can go by this, you know, this back
and forth thing. Let's just play who whoever is the
flavor of the week. I don't think that's gonna work either.

Speaker 5 (34:31):
Right, flavor of the week like it's wings Day exactly.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
Well, I mean it kind of is if you're going
back and forth between two guys, and you know this,
this injury sort of opened up that QB controversy again,
if Kalauzada doesn't get hurt, you're probably not gonna see Cutter.

Speaker 5 (34:47):
You want one of these guys to take the job, right, like,
whether it be Cutter, Calzada or even Bo. I mean,
you want somebody that's a leader at that position and
to just go and take it and not just have
to be the next guy up.

Speaker 2 (34:57):
Let's go to Michael.

Speaker 4 (34:58):
Hey, Michael, Hey, what's going on talking about this? Stut's
not not giving Cutter the first string right out of
the bat, playing this weekend and and getting that controversy
going with cals Outa. Does he not know he's his
his seat is hot. You think it's hot? Now, wait

(35:22):
till Cutter plays a good game this week and then
he brings cals Outa in next week.

Speaker 1 (35:30):
That is a scenario that could likely play out. And
that's aye, and he'll do it.

Speaker 4 (35:35):
Yeah, but what what he what? Does he not care
about his job? Does he say, Hey, they're not gonna
do anything with me. You know, I'm gonna play this out.
He knows how the fans feel. They want Cutter in there,
and Cutter's not getting the head the head bob. You know,
He's still playing this thing out this week. And I guarantee,

(35:56):
I bet you one hundred dollars Cutter will play a
good game this week and next next week he'll get
second team reps, and then Calzado will start gard in
South Carolina. Yeah, watch and see what I say, all right,
if he'll play it out that whole week.

Speaker 1 (36:12):
Thanks for the call, Michael. We appreciate. What's gonna be
interesting to see, Billy. Let's say, as we expect cutter.
Bowley's gonna have a good game against Eastern Michigan. Let's
say he plays against South Carolina. Doesn't look good. Now,
what do you do? Because you got again, you got
to go with one or the other. Like if that
I could see that be in a scenario that plays out,
he cutters the guy against South Carolina. Let's say I

(36:33):
hope that he does it, but let's say that he
struggles in that game. And now you got the guy
who's your QB one to start the season over here,
held up from his injury, ready to go.

Speaker 2 (36:42):
What do you do?

Speaker 4 (36:43):
Well?

Speaker 5 (36:43):
You just you play the guy that gives you the
best chance to win. And that's a cliche, that's coach speak.
But I think it's important for Mark Stoops to not
just make decisions based on what the fans want. I mean,
it's not Shannon the dude being DJ at Kroger Field,
not taking a poll or for what songs you want
to hear.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
This is much different operation. You're behind the scenes.

Speaker 5 (37:01):
You know, you see these guys every single day, so
you know, I think he would do a disservice to
his team if he were to get wishy washy just
based on what the fan base on.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
Are you suggesting my playlist is not as important as
the starting quarterback at Kentucky? Because I would say it
is absolutely just as important.

Speaker 5 (37:18):
I was just really disappointed by your answer last Friday.
I mean, we want you to set the mood.

Speaker 3 (37:21):
I don't want man. I like to take a poll
and everybody.

Speaker 2 (37:24):
That's what you and radio.

Speaker 1 (37:26):
You don't just play songs because you want to play them.
You got to play stuff that you think people want
to hear. How do you know what people want to hear?

Speaker 2 (37:33):
Gee?

Speaker 1 (37:34):
I don't know. You ask people what they want to hear.
So why was my answer so bad that you would
ask people what they want to hear when they go
to a game. You would ask the players what songs
do you want to hear at a game? That seems
like common sense to me. I'm going to take a
break on this two eighty seven.

Speaker 2 (37:48):
We'll be right back.

Speaker 3 (37:49):
We're not on the road. I gotta go.

Speaker 2 (37:50):
We're late for a break. We'll be right back, all right.

Speaker 1 (37:53):
Final segment of the KSR pre show Cage the Elephant
right here. You could catch them later at Bourbon and
beyond fest. I'll be out there probably around on one
o'clock doing my afternoon show out there, So if you
can find us out there tucked away, come on by
and say hello. The last couple of years we've done
a thing like where we have your shot to win
tickets to next year's festival already, so you can get

(38:14):
signed up for that out there too.

Speaker 5 (38:15):
Well, make sure I get a fixture. I want to
see the boom box and it's new location. And then
Shannon and I have one request while I'm gone. Shannon,
you have to watch unknown number the high School Catfish.

Speaker 3 (38:25):
Will you watch?

Speaker 2 (38:26):
I will.

Speaker 1 (38:26):
Yeah, it's two days straight now you've mentioned that, so
I'll definitely make sure I do.

Speaker 3 (38:31):
The feedback I got yesterday was incredible, so I need you.

Speaker 2 (38:34):
To watch it.

Speaker 1 (38:35):
I'll go back to the phones in just a minute.
But during the break, Billy, I was just reading this story.
Here it says that Kentucky is the number two state
when it comes to fast food capitals of America.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Number two, really number one? You want to take a guess.

Speaker 1 (38:51):
It's a nearby state, Ohio, West Virginia number one. Now
let me ask you this. Take a guess how many
fast food restaurants are in the state of Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
Fast food.

Speaker 3 (39:05):
I'm gonna guess three hundred.

Speaker 2 (39:09):
Three hundred. That's it. I feel like there's three hundred
fast food restaurants in.

Speaker 3 (39:14):
Louisville, maybe three hundred Hardy's out there.

Speaker 1 (39:16):
Yeah, yeah, I'm talking about all the fact. Okay, forty
one und around forty one hundred.

Speaker 5 (39:21):
Okay, that was about guess forty one hundred though, So
I guess if it's the second best or most state
in the in the Union, it was going to be
a little bit more than three hundred.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
But forty one's a lot we eat. Are you eating
a lot of fast food?

Speaker 2 (39:35):
Not a whole lot?

Speaker 1 (39:36):
I try not to, but you know, sometimes when it's
late at night, there's nothing open, you got to you
gotta hit a White Guts.

Speaker 5 (39:41):
Fifty dollars at Taco Bell, fifty dollars, one order, fifty dollars.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
No way, just for you.

Speaker 3 (39:47):
No, it's for two people.

Speaker 2 (39:48):
Okay, even then, two people fifty dollars.

Speaker 3 (39:51):
No, it was egregious, it was.

Speaker 5 (39:52):
But we ate everything besides one taco I think, so,
I mean we we got into it.

Speaker 1 (39:57):
Well, okay, now I'm intrigued. What is your order to
where you get to fifty dollars?

Speaker 5 (40:02):
I actually kept the receipt for a couple of days.
We just kept it on the kitchen table because it
was so ridiculous.

Speaker 2 (40:07):
So what are you ordering?

Speaker 5 (40:08):
I think it was like sixteen dollars of cheesy Gordida crunches.
I mean like three hardshell tacos. You've got, uh like
four other things. It got up to fifty dollars. You
got to get a freeze Baja bres freeze for two?

Speaker 1 (40:23):
Did you get like the little cinnamon twist? Do they
still have no cinnamon twist?

Speaker 5 (40:27):
We did get some chips and cheese, little nachos there.
I mean, it was just like it was a great moment.
I just I had to flex on the ganza a
little bit though. You know, sometimes you just got a
flex a little bit.

Speaker 2 (40:36):
Wow, flex on her and get her fifty dollars worth
of taco bell.

Speaker 3 (40:39):
What she ate like maybe like, you know, ten dollars
of it?

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Now they're unbelievable. All right, Larry, what's up? You're up next?

Speaker 7 (40:47):
Hey? Can you hear me?

Speaker 2 (40:48):
We got you man go ahead. Only got about thirty seconds.

Speaker 7 (40:52):
Okay, Well, you know it's bad about Charlie Kirk. I
will say that, and it's sad but you know, as
far as Kentucky, you know you're on a good as
your quarterback he has any receivers if receivers can't get
the ball or if he can't deliver the ball. But
so I don't know if this week could be a
good week to measure it, because this team isn't very good.
So I hope that Cutter does get a shot at it.

(41:13):
So anyway, see y'all.

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Guys, thank you Lair. We appreciate Nanku.

Speaker 3 (41:16):
Larry.

Speaker 1 (41:16):
Do you think it's a QB problem or a receiver
problem or a combination of the.

Speaker 3 (41:20):
Two little both.

Speaker 5 (41:22):
I mean, people that know ball better than me were
saying the receivers weren't getting open, especially for that first game.
But you know, Calzada also hasn't been very sharp at times.
So I think that's why there's so much optimism with
Cutter coming in as somebody that has been in the
system last year. But Kendrick Law has got to be
a focus. Those tight ends got to continue to be
uh in mac one as well.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
