Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone, or it is the KSR Pre Show. It's Monday,
September fifteenth. I am Shannon the Dude, and you can
give us a call on the Clark's Popping Shop phone
line eight five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
Berea a whiskey Thief Call of the day. You cannot
send us a text because Billy is on vacation this
week and he's got the text line. But I do
(00:20):
want to tell you that Ksrpre Show is being brought
to you by Tallex. Find Italian Donning in Lexington. I'm
in the Louisville studio. My guest host today is in Lexington,
and he is also the guy who is responsible for
the absolute worst Matt Jones impersonation I have ever heard
in my life. But I'm glad to have him here
with us this morning. He is Mario Maitland. Good morning, Mario.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
How are you doing?
Speaker 3 (00:43):
I'm good man.
Speaker 4 (00:44):
Can I say I feel like I'm moving on up
in the company by heart?
Speaker 3 (00:48):
Oh yeah, I'll say that, Shannon.
Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yeah, sure, you can say whatever you want. It's your
day today.
Speaker 4 (00:53):
I got in today and Gus helped me out with
the board, so I feel like I'm, you know, taking
the next step in my career, Shannon, I'm learning the
role of a producer. I'm running the board a little bit,
and get shout out the Gus and Billy helped me
last night a little bit.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
You guys don't get enough credit.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
The producers don't get enough credit because this thing is
actually hard, Like running the board. Setting this thing up
for radio is actually it's kind of difficult.
Speaker 3 (01:18):
It's a little bit tricky.
Speaker 1 (01:19):
It can be intimidating when you walk in and there's
all these hundreds of these in front of you, Like, okay,
one of these buttons could take us off the air,
one of them could put us on the air.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
But I'm not sure which one is which.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
And you can't just go in to start hitting buttons
because then all kinds of bad things start happening.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
But I'm glad we got you dialed in and ready
to go.
Speaker 1 (01:37):
Now, promise me you won't do any Matt Jones impersonations
like we got out at Clark's puffing Shop this past Friday.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
I love him, Mario, I love you. You're very talented,
You're great at what you do.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
Why don't you like my impression?
Speaker 4 (01:50):
Shan everyone has given me like compliments, and they even Matt.
I gave Matt an impression yesterday on the NFL Show.
He thought it was pretty good. Stop the only one
who does.
Speaker 1 (02:00):
It's not like my present, I think, And I was,
I was giving you a compliment. I was telling you
you're great at what you do with your pictures.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
No no, no, no, no no. Let me let me
just tell you this. I told you this in private.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
I said, I am absolutely the least photogenic person I know.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
Like, I take horrible pictures.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Like if I'm going to do a selfie, I have
to go through and take it fifty six times before
I'm like, Okay, that's a good enough picture. Like I
hate I hate pictures of myself.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
No, I do.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
Like That's why I don't really post selfies. I hate
pictures of myself. But to your credit, Mario, you have
the talent at somehow making me look halfway human when
you take a picture of me, like my profile pictures,
A lot of them are pictures that you've taken because
you have a talent for that. I, on.
Speaker 4 (02:49):
The other hand, me, no, I told you I don't
want to toot your horn. I know where at that
That is not me, Shan.
Speaker 3 (02:55):
That is all you.
Speaker 1 (02:56):
Man.
Speaker 4 (02:56):
You got the rocks. When you're a rock star, you
know you have to have the looks as well. You're photogetic, man,
You're the most.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
Now go ahead, no, no, no ahead to follow up
on this private conversation that I had with Mario on Friday.
Tell everybody what you told me when I said that
I am the least photogenic person that I know.
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I said, and I firmly believe this, and I stand
by it. You are the most photogenic out the crew
in terms of photos when you when you take photos,
you the easiest to take photos.
Speaker 1 (03:26):
Okay, so let's rank them then, let's be honest.
Speaker 3 (03:30):
No, no, no, no, we're.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Gonna rank them. Billy loves being last in all of
the rankings.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
So we're going to put Billy as Billy Bill is
the least photogenic Perton. We could throw him under the bus.
He's not here, he's at a wedding, he's not listening
right now this. Yeah, he's up in Michigan or somewhere. Okay,
So Billy is the least photogenic, so we'll put him
at the bottom.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
We got me at the top as the most photogenic.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Now let's just go, let's work our way down from
from two to Billy.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
So who's number Billy? Yeah, So who's the second I'm
gonna go.
Speaker 4 (04:00):
I'm gonna go I'm gonna go Drew. Second, I'm gonna
go Ryan Lemon. Third, as long as he keeps his
shirt on. Fourth is Matt. Matt is probably the one
who's talking the most. So it's a little bit harder
to get action shots of Matt and then Billy.
Speaker 3 (04:15):
You know, I love Billy man.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Uh, Billy is not that, you know, Billy's just I'm
not usually around when I'm taking Like, Billy's not usually
around when I'm taking photos.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Oh okay, that's.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
Why you're putting them last, because you can't take exactly,
can't take to somebody who's not there.
Speaker 2 (04:33):
You're saying, I.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
Have to go seek him out. That's the thing.
Speaker 1 (04:35):
So you know, Matt's always getting on you because you
your angles. He says you don't get the right angles.
Matt wants you to shoot from above.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
How tall is Matt compared to me? Shannon, Matt is
six what six four six six three six four five
ten five eleven on? Now like that, I feel like
that has to play a part in terms of like
getting the right angle, like I need maybe I need
a ladder or a step in stool or something like that.
I like to make sure he has the right angle.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
Mario's step stool, so you can just take it around
with you wherever you go and then step up on
that and take a picture. He's always getting on you
about getting too much thigh in the picture. He says,
you got too much thigh. I don't even know what
that means. I would say, maybe wear longer shorts if
you don't want your thigh exposed.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
That's my thing. He's like, maybe you can get longer pants.
You know, I can't control the thigh, you know, the thigh.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
I only can do.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
The best that I can do is crop the photo.
That's the best I can do.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:31):
Well, I'm glad you're here with me.
Speaker 1 (05:32):
You're a great photographer, a great addition to KSR, and
happy to have you here on the pre show this morning.
Let's just get into what happened on Saturday, and I
want to talk about Bourbon and beyond too, because I
am I'm just sure.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
I'll go ahead and tell you I am exhausted from that.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
But We'll talk about that in the next segment, but
let's get into Kentucky's went over Eastern.
Speaker 2 (05:50):
Michigan forty eight twenty three.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
I'll give you sort of my initial thoughts, then I'll
let you give me yours, Mario. Overall, you know, overall,
I felt like Kentucky played well. They still gave up
too many points to a really bad team.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
They gave up too many first downs I think they did.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
They give up like over three hundred passing yards. I
think that's right if you give up the defense. Defense
was not great, especially in the first half.
Speaker 4 (06:15):
Giving it and did that first half was really bad
for the defense. They took a step back on that.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
Yeah, Brad White said that they kind of got after
him at halftime, got after the defense, and you know,
they came out played a little better in the second half.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
So those are things that have to be cleaned up.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
But of course, all eyes were on Cutter Bowley, who
got the start.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
I think he was good, not great, and I.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Thought there were definitely some flashes of greatness out there,
but nothing.
Speaker 3 (06:41):
That really sold.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Yeah, nothing really that sold me on him definitely being
the clear cut better quarterback than Calousada. And again we're
talking about comparing what Cutter bully did to a really
bad Eastern Michigan team to Calasada playing against the top
twenty ole miss team and a good Toledo team, So
I don't know that that's really a fair parison. I
did like what I heard from Cutter after the game.
(07:03):
You know, he said that he prepares for every game
like he's going to be at the starter of that week.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I definitely love his attitude. I thought that he looked
comfortable out there. I thought he looked confident, but also
think that we'll be able to get a much you know,
form a much better opinion of if Cutter is going
to be the guy after they play South Carolina, who,
by the way, just got blown out against a three and.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Oho Vandy team.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
I thought the running game looked great, and I think
that was sort of the plan of attack against the
team that had already given up over six hundred yards
in the first two games. So my overall takeaway was
running game continues to be strong.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Cutter looked good, not great.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
Defense left a lot to be desired, but I thought
at least they cleaned it up a little bit in
the second half.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
So overall, even though they do cover by the way
they end up covering.
Speaker 1 (07:51):
But I'm going to give him a I'd say a
B for what I saw on Saturday. What was your
takeaway from the game against Eastern Michigan?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
All right, Channon, I'm gonna give you the positives and
the negative. No, I'm kidding, I'm kidding, But in all seriousness, man,
there's there's a lot more positives than negatives. I mean
the negatives from the game. I was actually at the game, Shannon,
so I kind of got to see it from a
different perspective. Negatives was obviously the defense. They took a
(08:20):
step back, you know after that first half. Ending of
that first half was just not good. You don't really
want to see that from from the defense, especially going
into South Carolina. It's not gonna get easier, so they're
gonna have to clean that up. But a lot more
positives than negatives. I mean, Cutter Bowley's probably the most
positive thing out there. I mean, majority of fans. I
don't want to speak for the fan base, but majority
(08:42):
of them came just to see Cutter Bowley. You know,
I think I think that I think that's very important
for the fan base. Just just seeing something different gives
hope to to the BBN. You know, you have Cutter
Bowler from Kentucky. You know, he's almost kind of like
a fan favorite for Kentucky and he played very well.
You know, he threw for over two hundred yards, you know,
two tds. And the thing I really like about Cutter Bowlie, man,
(09:05):
doesn't he seem like he's just always having fun. Like
when he's out there playing, he has an attitude like
when you talked about it, you know what he said
after the game. He has this attitude like he just
likes He's like he loves football, like a kid who's
out there living his dream. And I love that for him,
honestly love that for him. He always plays like he's
having fun. But overall, man, I gotta say that the
(09:26):
atmosphere was much better. I was actually out there rained
a little bit, and the fans actually they stayed in
the rain and watched the game. You know.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
Yeah, so I thought that was really cool.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
You know, you had kids out there with their shirts off,
you know, going crazy, you know, the young kids I'm
talking about. You know, the lights came out as well.
You know, BBN showed up not gonna I'm not gonna
lie to you, Shannon. They showed up and it was
a good stepping stone for what they have coming. It's
a it's a good good way to turn the page
on old miss. You kind of get a fresh start
(09:57):
almost with with Cutter Bowley and how he played man overall,
but I had to give them a grade. Honestly, I'm
I'm more optimistic than the average fan. I'm gonna go
B plus just because you know, Cutter Bowley, he showed promise.
And that's the thing I like about Cutter Bowley. You know,
he has a lot of potential. He's young, he didn't play,
he hasn't played in a lot of Kentucky football games
in his career, and he shown he shows signs of promise.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Man, I honestly like what I saw from him.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yeah, I think, like I said, we're gonna get a
lot better look at Cutter against.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
South Carolina town Are, which I don't really know.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
South Carolina, ranked number eleven in the country, just gets
completely annihilated by Vanderbilt at home over the weekend.
Speaker 3 (10:37):
That was one of our parlays, wasn't it.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:40):
It was South Carolina, right, So that was that was
Ryan was Ryan's I'm trying to tell everybody, like other
than that, all of our legs hit of the parlay, right, Mario,
Like there was nobody that picked Virginia Attach who got
blown out by Old the Menu.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Like nobody, no, no, no, I thought that was that
had to be right, Drew pick I wouldn't. I don't, Honestly,
I do not remember. I know I picked that list year.
Would never have you helped me out with.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
I would never pick Virginia Tech to win by five
and a half points over old a Menu and who
came out? And I think I think they're still beating
them by like one hundred points, right, Okay.
Speaker 3 (11:17):
I will admit I think that was you.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
That was the second worst pick of the parlay that
I have ever had. That was a bad one. Like
my first year, I always referenced this game. It was
U Mass and I can't remember the other team, but
it was like a sixty point spread, Mario, and I go,
I don't care who it is. No college team is
beating another college team by over sixty points. And it happened,
(11:40):
and it happened you yourself. It happened this weekend too.
Wasn't there a sixty three to three game.
Speaker 3 (11:46):
I think, yeah, I think I saw that.
Speaker 2 (11:48):
Yeah, but anyway, yeah, that was a bad pick.
Speaker 1 (11:51):
But overall though, I think that, uh, it felt like
you kind of sait turning the page on the old
Miss game. It kind of felt like a hard reset
on the season. And I know it's kind of strange
say that in only week three, but I just wonder,
is the Calzada experience already behind us, a guy that
you paid a lot of nil money to get here,
you have two games, he gets injured. I don't know.
(12:13):
I still don't know. Is the QB one spot Cutters
to lose. I thought it might be, but I'm not sure.
Speaker 4 (12:20):
Yeah, I don't want to write off Calzada, you know,
just yet, because obviously the main thing is Cutter has
to keep playing well, right, that's the because you know,
if he's not playing well, and then it's kind of like, oh,
do you go back to Calzada, in which that probably
would be the worst case scenario is going you know,
switching back and forth between these these quarterbacks. That's probably
the worst thing that could happen. But you know, as
(12:41):
long as Cutter's playing, you know, he's consistent, playing well,
shown promise, improving. Like I said, he's young, that's my
from my perspective, He's very young in his football career,
hasn't played a lot of games, and you ain't get
bad games here and there. That's just part of the journey.
I know last year he played well against Louisville. What
was that like his third I was like his first
(13:01):
SEC start I believe.
Speaker 3 (13:02):
Was against Louisville.
Speaker 4 (13:03):
And and you know, I gotta like I said, I'm
I'm optimistic for Cutter Bowli Man, and you got to
stay with what's going well for you. And I think,
you know, Stoops, I'm hoping he's gonna you know, this
is a bye week, but I'm hoping he's gonna stick
with Cutter. Going into the South Carolina you almost have
to write, well, what sense would it make to go
back to Calsada when you just when Cutter's playing well
(13:24):
and Cutter's building his confidence, it doesn't make sense to
go back to Kasada at all?
Speaker 2 (13:28):
No, it does it right now.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
But as I've been talking about on the pre show,
what do you do if you get into the situation
where calls or Cutter comes out against South Carolina? Maybe
doesn't look great. Then you're in a situation where do
you go back to Calsada. And here's here's what I'm saying.
If you're stoops, you have to eventually pick one or
the other and commit to him. So if Cutters the guy, you.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
Can't keep going back.
Speaker 4 (13:51):
He can't keep because it kills confidence, right, it kills confidence,
especially because Calesada he's just coming off an injury. And
I've been in that situation where you know, I've I've
lost starting roles because of injuries, and it's not fun
for for you as the person. You know, I can
kill Kyalzada's confidence as well, and it hurts the team
dynamic as well, because you look, the team's like, who's
(14:12):
our guy?
Speaker 3 (14:13):
Is it? Is it Kyaalzada? Is it Bowlie?
Speaker 4 (14:15):
And like I said, I don't think you can keep
going back and forth. You just gotta rock with who's
who's you know, playing the best And and right now,
you know Cutter has momentum on his side. Just stick
with Cutter and see what happens in South Carolina.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
I'm afraid that's what's going to happen.
Speaker 4 (14:28):
Though.
Speaker 1 (14:28):
You're going to have one game where or let's say
Cutter plays well, next game he doesn't, and then it's like, Okay,
do you stick with Cutter on the game after that
or do you go back to Calzada.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
You cannot, You can't.
Speaker 4 (14:40):
You want my honest opinion, Shain And I think you
stay with Cutter. He's young, he's your future. He needs
he needs game reps like he doesn't. That's the one
thing that he's lacking is not not playing like. He
needs game reps. That's the only way he's gonna learn, right.
You know, he can practice, he can get all that,
but he needs those game reps. I say you stick
with Cutter. He has he has the potential when he's young.
Speaker 1 (15:00):
Yeah, there's a lot of coach speak when it comes
to telling guys they are the future of the program.
Sometimes you have to say that just to keep guys
at bay who are on the bench, keep them happy,
and hopefully keep them around for the following year, because,
as we've said, with the transfer portal world we're living
and you have to constantly keep recruiting these guys. It's
(15:20):
not just enough to get them to come to your program.
You have to keep them happy while you're there. If
you truly believe if you're Mark Stoops and you truly
believe that Cutter Bowli is the quarterback of your future.
I think from here on out, the QB one spot
is is to lose. What do you think eight five,
nine to twenty two eighty seven will take your calls?
Coming up next Shaham the Dude and Mario Maitland sitting in.
(15:41):
He won't do that Matt Jones impersonation anymore. We're not
going to allow him to. We'll be right back if
I could get logged in here. Here's the problem with
not having a producer. I was about to go to
a break and then my computer time's out and I
had to log back in this sample.
Speaker 4 (15:54):
The average people don't understand how much work, like behind
the scenes a producer does on the show. It's incredible,
Like you like you guys, like I don't know how
you do it.
Speaker 3 (16:04):
It made it hard for me just coming in and
trying to set these things up.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
Sitting here while I'm while I'm trying to produce the
show and host the show and.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Take phone calls all at.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
The same time live on the air, I'm like, going,
I need more more arms, you know.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
It's like it's it's.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
It's it's chaos in here. We'll take a break, We'll
be right back. It's the ksrpre Shio. All right, let's
test your musical knowledge, Mario.
Speaker 2 (16:25):
Do you know who this is that I'm playing right now?
Speaker 3 (16:28):
Never heard of? Who is this?
Speaker 1 (16:31):
I'm sure you've heard of the band? Have you ever
heard of a little band called the Beatles?
Speaker 3 (16:36):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (16:36):
I know?
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Because the Sun Comes Up that's my favorite Beatles song.
Speaker 1 (16:40):
I think I said, here comes the Sun, Here, here
comes the Sun.
Speaker 3 (16:46):
Yeah, that song.
Speaker 2 (16:48):
Well.
Speaker 1 (16:49):
Over the weekend at Bourbon and Beyond Fest, Ringo, who
is the drummer for Beatles, for the Beatles, he played
there with his solo band. I just want to talk
for a minute about moments that have happened in your
life that as you're watching them happen in front of you,
you realize that is a special moment, like something you'll
never forget. And for me, being there at bourbonam Beyond
(17:11):
Fest on Saturday, look it up on stage and being
able to sit there and watch a Beatle in the
year twenty twenty five play a show was just a
really really special moment.
Speaker 3 (17:22):
That is cool. It is cool.
Speaker 1 (17:23):
I've seen Paul McCartney live and now I've seen Ringo,
so I've seen half of the Beatles basically.
Speaker 2 (17:28):
But it was just a really cool moment.
Speaker 1 (17:30):
And the guy, Mario, is eighty five years old, and
I don't know if if you go to my Twitter
account you can see some of the video that I
took from the show.
Speaker 2 (17:40):
God doesn't look over forty five.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
I'm convinced that Ringo Star has found the fountain of
youth and he's not telling the rest of us where
it is because he, for eighty five, looks amazing. I
also need to know what his skincare regiment is, because,
like I said, he just looks.
Speaker 2 (17:54):
So young up there, I'm going this guy's eighty.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
Five years old and still rocking it out playing the drums.
He had his all star band, as he calls him,
with him. I didn't realize that here's another band you
probably never heard of because they're an eighties band, and
you probably don't listen to that music because it's dinosaur
music to you.
Speaker 2 (18:12):
Mario, you're so.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Young, Oh, don't do that. I listened a little bit
of eighties music, all right.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Well.
Speaker 1 (18:17):
Min at Work, the singer for Minute Work, was in
his band and he played, Ringo played drums while Colin Hay,
the singer for Minute Work, played some Minute Work songs,
which was really cool. So just an all around overall
really cool moment. And it's you know, like I was
going back to when we started this segment. Sometimes moments
(18:37):
in your life happen and you don't realize that they're
a special moment until after the fact. But then there's
some moments that as you're watching them, you're going, this
is a cool.
Speaker 4 (18:47):
Out of body experience, like you come out of your
own body and you're like, oh my goodness, what's happening
right now.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
I don't want to say I came out of my
body for Ringo, but I will say it was really
cool and I appreciate it at that moment, and I
realized that's probably gonna be. It was the first time,
and if we're being honest, probably the last time I'm
ever going to see Ringo play a show. And you know,
when I saw Ringo on the bill, I'm like that
it'd be cool to go see him. But he was
(19:13):
actually really good, and I guess.
Speaker 3 (19:15):
So you enjoyed it.
Speaker 1 (19:15):
Sounds like it's all about expectations, you know, you think Okay,
Ringo is gonna be there. I'll go see him because
he played in the most iconic rock band in history.
Speaker 2 (19:24):
But then you get there and he still sounds really good.
So I think that was my highlight for you.
Speaker 5 (19:29):
Man.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
I'm surprised I didn't know the Beatles are I know
Paul McCartney.
Speaker 3 (19:34):
Is he still a lot how many members of the Beatles?
Is still a lot to them?
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (19:37):
Yeah, that's Paul and legendary. Man, you got to see
one of the Beatles in action. I thought that was
very cool just to hear that from you.
Speaker 6 (19:43):
Man.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
I don't know, I don't have I'm trying to think
when you reminded me, like what out of what experiences
that kind of like took me away when I'm in
that actual moment, the only one, the probably most recent
one I have two. I have the Mark Pope press conference.
That was really cool. That was a cool moment for me.
And then the first time ever walking into an I
(20:05):
heart building, really new building. Yeah, that was really cool
for me, man, because I'm like that was I remember
the first day I walked in and I was like, Wow,
this place looks amazing. I've never been in an office
that looks like this, like it almost looks like if
you ever if people have I know a lot of
people haven't been to the iHeart offices, but if you've
ever gotten a chance to go in the iHeart offices
almost looks like a high rise office, like like you know,
(20:28):
you have all these windows and everything's hot tech.
Speaker 3 (20:31):
So that was like a cool moment for me. And
you see the iHeart.
Speaker 4 (20:33):
Logos all over the place, especially your guy for me,
especially like a guy for me, you know who's I
haven't really you know, done a lot of radio stuff
in my career. My first radio show was when I
was twenty three, and you know, just coming into the
actual iHeart building, that was like a special moment for me.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
And I know, I know you have plenty of moments
like that in your career.
Speaker 2 (20:53):
Well, here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (20:55):
If you walked into our old office, you would not
have had that person that's what I've heard, walked into
the lois of office. There were ceiling tiles falling down
and hitting you on the head. They had to have
like a garbage can constantly out in the hallway because
one ceiling tile that always leaked anytime it would rain.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
You would have like water pouring through the building.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
You had a couch that had been sitting in there
in qemth you if you were to shine a black
light on this couch, uh, Mario, you can see it
from outer space. I'm just saying a lot of things
happened on this couch and oh yeah, yeah, yeah, Like
our studios now are no comparison to the old studio,
like that one over there, one in louisvill Off Bishop
(21:34):
Lane is sitting there. I think it's literally just crumpling
bit by bit, Like you go up on the sidewalk
and like parts of the stairs were falling apart, and
I'm going, now it makes sense why we finally got
out of that building. I think it was a safety
hazard for everybody involved. But it had carpet that had
been in there since the Clinton administration, maybe even I mean.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Like, so, yeah, you got the walk.
Speaker 1 (21:55):
You got to walk in and see all the new
shiny toys and the new board and you know, like
I'm telling you, the first time I ran Kentucky Sports Radio,
the board there wasn't even a board went not like
a physical board. The board was actually on the screen itself,
on the computer.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
It was a digital board.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
That had like the volume levels, it had five volume
levels and there was no in between. So sometimes you
get somebody's mike too loud and then too soft.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
There was no in the middle.
Speaker 3 (22:23):
So now we have all this mode technology.
Speaker 1 (22:25):
That's right, We're gonna take a break. We'll be right
back to take your calls. Ksrpre Show, Welcome back. It
is the KSR Pre Show. Collective Soul playing right here,
another one of my highlights from Bourbon and Beyond Fest
over the weekend. U I would say top ten for
me nineties band. There's a lot of great nineties bands.
I'd put Collective Soul somewhere in that top ten. Hey five, nine, two, eight, oh,
twenty two eighty seven. We were talking Kentucky, Eastern Michigan.
(22:48):
We're also talking moments in your life that, as they
were happening in front of you, you knew they were
a special moment. Maybe if we apply this to Kentucky sports,
maybe it was the twenty two twelve National championship team.
Maybe it was the twenty fifteen team. Maybe it was
Tayshaun Prince hitting five threes straight against North Carolina. Maybe
(23:09):
it was Jody me big Z, maybe he was Jody
Meek's fifty four point game.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
I don't know what big Z would be.
Speaker 3 (23:16):
Did you say big Z big Z's debut.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Yeah, I mean it was cool, but I mean it
did nothing really came out of it much.
Speaker 3 (23:21):
You know, it was just one game.
Speaker 1 (23:23):
I would say, like, if we're talking outside of Kentucky sports,
something more recently that just happened.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
I think.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
Lee Corso's final college game day, you know, I thought
that was really cool. And then how about him, by
the way, picking every single game correctly on his way out,
Like that is a drop.
Speaker 2 (23:38):
That is a drop the mic moment right there for
Lee Corso.
Speaker 1 (23:40):
So if you got any at Shannon the Dude on
Twitter eight five nine two eight h twenty two eighty seven,
you can get those in. Let me tell you about

time offer. Uh did you see in that Vandy South
Carolina game?
Speaker 2 (24:47):
You know who theo von is right? The podcast?
Speaker 3 (24:49):
Yeah podcast?
Speaker 2 (24:50):
Yeah he was.
Speaker 1 (24:52):
He was on the sideline during the game between South
Carolina and Vandy.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Move by the way, Vandy, Just I mean, are they
for real?
Speaker 1 (24:59):
I don't know they just they just blew out a
third team. They just blew out the number eleven team
in the country. On on the road at South Carolina,
who Kentucky has coming up next?
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Looking good, but looking good.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
At one point in the third quarter, theo von was.
Speaker 1 (25:15):
I think it was Kole Kublaka that was over there
on the sideline who was asking theo von about a
conversation that he had with Diego Pavia and Diego Diego Pavia,
according to theo Vaughn, said that if Vanderbilt were to
beat South Carolina that theovon could go on a date
with his mom.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
I don't know that, huh.
Speaker 1 (25:34):
Diego Pavia told theovon that, according to theo Von, so
v not only beat destroys South Carolina. And you know,
I don't know how much you follow Diego Pavia's mom.
You probably don't watch a lot of Vandy games, but
she's always being shown out there in the crowd.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
And let's just.
Speaker 1 (25:52):
Say there is a cross section of people who have
a thirst for Diego Pavia's mom, and I think Theovon
maybe one of them.
Speaker 2 (26:02):
And now apparently, uh.
Speaker 1 (26:04):
Theovonn is going to be able to take out Miss Pavia.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
On a date on a date? Wow? And so he
was serious.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
I mean, I don't know theovonn uh, he tweeted out,
I think on Saturday night, where should I take her?
He's getting suggestions like where he should take miss Pavia
out for a date.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
I don't imagine.
Speaker 2 (26:23):
I don't think there's any scenario in my life where.
Speaker 3 (26:26):
I have my mom put my mom on that.
Speaker 1 (26:29):
No.
Speaker 3 (26:29):
I would never do that, no ever, No.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
But yeah, but Diego Pavia had no problem to saying, yeah,
you can take my mom out on a date. Now,
imagine this worked out and theovon is Diego Pavia's stepdad.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
How awkward would that be?
Speaker 3 (26:44):
Super awkward? Man?
Speaker 4 (26:45):
I could I can't even see that. I would never
put my mom in that position. Like, that's not even
that's not even going through my brain. Shannon put my
mom on a on a date if she was single? No,
like I would absolutely not. My mom is not available
for anyone.
Speaker 2 (26:59):
Yeah, but we.
Speaker 1 (26:59):
Also have to assume that Diego Pavia's mom is okay
with this too. I mean, right, great, you can't just
say you get to go on a date with my mom.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
You have that mom's consent.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
That's how this works all right, So you think you
think the mom knows what he knows now, I don't
know if she knew prior to to it all being
public on Saturday, But yeah, I don't think there's any
scenario in which I could do that. Eight five twenty
two eighty seven. Let's go to the phones and talk
to David.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
Hey, David, what's up?
Speaker 6 (27:26):
Oh?
Speaker 5 (27:26):
Yes, I tell you what I have. Definitely agree with
Mario when he sit talking about Cutter Bowley over the weekend,
I'd say try to go with him as long as
you can, because I'd like to think Cutter Bowley from Lexington,
that would be the story to know that he could
have his entire career at UK. Yeah, and probably a
(27:47):
team that he dreamed of. And I just I got
this transfer portal. It really frustrates me to think that,
you know, a player can play at a different school
every every year of their eligibility and that shouldn't happen.
Speaker 2 (28:00):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
And that's the world we live in, David. We appreciate
the call, Thank you very much. Yeah, I mean, obviously
Cutter is our guy. Right when it comes to somebody
who's from Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (28:08):
Fans love them.
Speaker 1 (28:09):
Yeah, You're gonna get a lot more leeway being from
the state of Kentucky and the starting quarterback than somebody
that's an outsider.
Speaker 2 (28:15):
There's no doubt about that.
Speaker 4 (28:16):
You said they had, sorry to cut you off. I
just have to say it, man, they had after the game.
There's about forty fifty fans that stayed after the game
just to meat Cutter, just to just to say hi
to Cutter after the game. Right, this is late like
this is like late eleven thirty, you know, and like
you have to you have to rock with what's going.
I know, Mark Stoups probably doesn't care. You know, I'm
not gonna say that they're focused on what the fans want,
(28:38):
like he wants. Obviously Stoops is doing his job. He
wants to, you know, put the breast product out there
on the field. But as far as like from the
fans perspective, they're all in on Cutter Bowly, like they're
all this is this is Kentucky's quarterback.
Speaker 3 (28:50):
Is Cutter Bowling. He's from here.
Speaker 4 (28:52):
You've seen that picture that you post it on Twitter
where he was a little kid and he's in the
stands at Kroger Field like it's a it's a field
good moment, a feel good.
Speaker 3 (29:01):
Story man, and I got it. Like I said, I'm
rooting for Cutter.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
I got to ask you about this picture that you
sent me. It's all over the internet, apparently at Shannon
of the Dude on Twitter.
Speaker 2 (29:09):
I just tweeted it out. So, so what scenario.
Speaker 1 (29:12):
Did they have it where they had Cutter up there
as a kid and then then they put lifelong Kentucky
fan underneath of that?
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Is that photo shopped on there or is that?
Speaker 6 (29:20):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (29:20):
I think I think they added up. They added that
to it. The original photo doesn't have that. I'm assuming
they just added that. But yeah, like it's really cool
just to see that. You don't you often don't see
that usually, especially in today's age with the transfer portal,
usually getting people from all over your quarterback is not
usually the hometown quarterback. And it's really cool just to
see Cutter, you know, and you know, beat a quarterback
(29:42):
and it seems like he's loving it himself.
Speaker 3 (29:44):
Yeah, he seems like he's loving it.
Speaker 1 (29:45):
It would be a great story if he turns out
to be our guy and and you know, maybe makes
this Bowl eligible again. I still feel I'm still feeling
good about six and six this year. I don't know
if I don't know if there's anybody else that wants
to jump on board.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
But I still feel like this team can can get
to a bowl game.
Speaker 3 (30:01):
And you're surprisingly optimistic.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
Yes, what did you have five and seven?
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Or yes, I did? I believe I had five? Or
was it four? I think I have five?
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Okay, let's see a lot of people started it for
that's how it works in these like preseason.
Speaker 3 (30:17):
Yes, I agree with you, Shannon, six, it's possible. Let's see, Like,
let's just take a game by game. Man.
Speaker 4 (30:22):
You just don't like I said, you get a bye
week this week South Carolina. Maybe we keep it close
in South Carolina. Maybe Cutter has a big game. Anything
can happen.
Speaker 1 (30:30):
Well, yeah, I mean I think seeing Vanderbilt beat up
on South Carolina gives you a lot more hope for
that game in South Carolina. I hate to keep saying this,
but it's true. For the longest time, there was a
stretch where Kentucky won seven out of eight games against
South Carolina. South Carolina was an afterthought for years, but
then in the last several years or the last few years,
(30:51):
South Carolina has had Kentucky's number. We got to get
back to to making South Carolina feel like a team
that you're going to beat each and each and every year.
Speaker 2 (30:59):
Let's go to Jake. What's up?
Speaker 6 (31:02):
Hey, Shannon? You got me this time? And I know
we had a little phone issue when I when I
called the first time, you got me this.
Speaker 2 (31:08):
Now I got your pardoner go ahead, all right?
Speaker 6 (31:12):
Hey, Uh, I've gone on going on some of your
programs and said said, I'm a seven and five guy.
Can I talk you into being seven and five? Shannon?
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Not yet?
Speaker 1 (31:24):
Not yet, because I still feel like we have not
entirely sure that Cutter Bowley.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Is going to be our guy, so not yet.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
I feel like it's his job to lose. But I
don't know that yet. I need to know that Cutter
Bowley is our guy. And if I know that he's
going to be the guy that's gonna be the starting
quarterback for the rest of the season, I feel better
about it. And maybe you could talk me into seven
and five. But until then, I'm still six and.
Speaker 6 (31:46):
Six and I've got to hear that. I've got to
hear Matt Jones, Super Mario, I missed it on Friday.
I've got to hear it live.
Speaker 2 (31:54):
Go back and listen to the podcast.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Hear it live? Uh, what did you think about it?
Speaker 6 (31:59):
I haven't heard it yet. That's why I want to
hear it live.
Speaker 3 (32:02):
You want to hear Do you want to hear right now?
Or you know I'm not gonna do it.
Speaker 4 (32:06):
Yeah, he doesn't want me to do it, so I'm.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Not gonna do it.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Mario, do you want to do it?
Speaker 3 (32:14):
I'm always down to do it. Man wants to do it.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
See, I'm out.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
I feel like if Billy were here, he would even
be out and say no and it would be a wash.
But it's a democracy. The KASAR Pre Show is a democracy.
Two out of the three people on the radio right now,
I want to hear it. So all right, Mario, give us.
Speaker 3 (32:30):
Give us from South Carolina.
Speaker 4 (32:34):
Well, Shinnon, I love the job that you've done with.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Mario today on KOSR pre Show. But we're gonna get
ready for KOs R.
Speaker 4 (32:45):
We're about fifteen minutes in and we're gonna do it
live from studio and.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
We're gonna get it going. So it's gonna be a
good one.
Speaker 2 (32:54):
That's a horrible magic stop.
Speaker 3 (32:57):
It's not bad.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
You are enabling him every Ada's for the College Jake.
Speaker 1 (33:03):
Everybody, everybody telling Mario that he's good at doing the
Matt Jones.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Anyone, If anyone can do it, it's me. I hear
him the most. I'm editing content. I hear his voice
the most. I'm eligible to do his impersonation, and I'm
the one who can do it the best.
Speaker 1 (33:17):
I mean, anybody's eligible to do it, but that doesn't
mean everybody that does it is good at it. You
do a lot of impersonations, and I love you, but
you're horrible at all of them.
Speaker 3 (33:28):
You love it, and you just don't want to admit
reason I don't love it.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
There's a reason I don't do impersonation you have. I
know I'm bad at impersonations, so I don't do them. You,
on the other hand, does I.
Speaker 3 (33:38):
Don't believe that. I don't believe. I believe deep down
you love it.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
All right, So we got a live read to do.
This is Billy's live read, but I'm going to do
it here, and this live read is full of typos,
so bear with me.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
Here. It's for stretch Lab. It says.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Stretch Lab is a boutique fitness franchise that offers customized
assistant stretching by a trained flexiology.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
You need to be more flexible, Mario. You think you
should because you need to be flexible to stay healthy
in life.
Speaker 3 (34:06):
More, I guess there's nothing wrong with being flexible.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Yeh, that's right. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:09):
More advanced stretch that one can get on their own,
you can get at the Stretch Lab. And there's benefits
of assistant stretch stretching including improved posture.
Speaker 2 (34:18):
I need that.

with Billy to redeem it when calling the Lexton Studio.
The studio in Lexington again, that is the Stretch Lab
and stretch lab dot Com. We're going to take a break.
We'll take more of your phone calls. Come it up next,
A lot more to go with, Mario. You're on the
KSR pre Show. Final segments of the KSR pre Show
(35:04):
Shannon the Dude, Mario Maitland, Mario, do you know who
this band is? We're testing your musical trip, your musical
knowledge on the pre show today.
Speaker 4 (35:13):
Sounds familiar, kind of, but I don't think I'm gonna
get the name.
Speaker 1 (35:17):
You're breaking my heart. My favorite band ever, Stone Tipple Pilots.
They're gonna be playing it Louder than Life this upcoming weekend.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
So I was gonna say ac DC, but not quite.
Speaker 1 (35:28):
Not quite, but that's TP will be playing. One hundred
and seventy five bands are gonna be playing. I wish
I could get you out at Louder than Life for
one day, Mario, one day, man Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Are you available for any of those days?
Speaker 3 (35:40):
I'll get your tickets.
Speaker 2 (35:42):
I'll get you in for free.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
You'll get me in for free.
Speaker 4 (35:45):
Okay, you look for free if you can make it, well,
get guess what I gotta I gotta tell you something Shannon.
Somebody text me over the break they said that they
loved my Matt Jones impression. So that's another person added
to the list that these are loves my Matt Jone.
Speaker 2 (36:00):
Here's the thing, here's what's going on here.
Speaker 1 (36:03):
Mario has become such a beloved figure on KSR.
Speaker 3 (36:06):
No, don't do it, don't do no wrong you can do.
Don't go that round.
Speaker 1 (36:10):
Mario says, there are people out there who love them
so much they can look past that fact that impersonation.
Speaker 3 (36:17):
Just admitt it. You just don't like it. You just
you like it, but you can't admit it.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
You know, I just.
Speaker 6 (36:21):
Don't want to like Mario that good?
Speaker 1 (36:26):
Now?
Speaker 2 (36:27):
Is that your Shannon the dude?
Speaker 3 (36:29):
No, I haven't worked.
Speaker 4 (36:30):
I'm still working on all the other crew members, you know, voices.
Speaker 3 (36:35):
You know, it's a lot of Matt.
Speaker 2 (36:38):
Get You gotta get Matt down first and come back
to me.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
I have matts now.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
One person writes in and says, you mentioned Collective Soul
being one of your top ten favorite nineties bands.
Speaker 2 (36:46):
Who are your others?
Speaker 1 (36:48):
Well, I kind of jut up this down because I
saw this question coming during the break, so I'll go
quickly number ten. These are all bands Mario doesn't know? Uh,
Smashing Popkins number ten, I would say number nine. I've
heard of them, the Offspring never heard of him, No,
I haven't. Collective Soul number eight. I just told you
about them, played one other songs.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
Number seven.
Speaker 1 (37:05):
I would go Red Hot Chili Peppers, number six, Pearl
Jam number five, Green Day number four, I would say Nirvana.
And then my top three is easy sound Garden.
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Can I give you?
Speaker 2 (37:17):
Hold on? Let me, let me give you my top three?
Hang on a minute, How am I finished yet? Sound Garden?
Number three?
Speaker 1 (37:21):
Alison Chain's number two, Stone Tiple pilots my favorite. All right,
give me yours.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
You might be surprised, but I'm going Nirvana one. I'm
going Pearl Jam. Two, I'm going Red Hot Chili Peppers.
At three, I'm going Alice In Chains, I'm going Green Day,
and then I'm going Soundgarden.
Speaker 2 (37:36):
Okay, so your your favorite band, you says Nirvana. Now
I'm gonna do with you.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
What you see all these young people walking around with
Nirvana shirts on? And I go to them and I say, hey,
cool shirt, what's your favorite Nirvana song? And they look
at me like I have three heads? So do you
know one Nirvana song.
Speaker 3 (37:54):
I'm gonna be honest with you because I like you.
Speaker 5 (37:55):
Man.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
I looked it all up and I just went down.
I went down the list.
Speaker 2 (38:00):
Okay, yes, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (38:04):
I know Nirvana because they have a lot of graphic t's. Yeah,
and then Pearl Jam sounds kind of familiar. I'm red
Hot Chili Peppers I feel like was very popular. That
sounds like it wasn't popular. Yeah, yeah, that's about it.
I don't know any other like, I don't I don't
know any of these.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Was that your chat GPT answer that you gave.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
Me is this is straight off of Google. They gave
me the list.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
I typed in best nineties bands and then I read
it from top to bottom.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Team.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
Well, Google's clearly wrong if they don't have Stone Tipple
Pilots on there, because they were the best band of
the nineties. All Right, you said you had a question
for me that came in about SEC traditions.
Speaker 3 (38:38):
They yeah, what's your uh?
Speaker 4 (38:40):
Someone text me Chase, shout out, Chase, text me a
case our listener. He texted me and said, ask Shannon,
what's his least favorite SEC like theme? Like like a
theme ritual that that that that they do. Do you
have a specific theme that you hate?
Speaker 3 (38:54):
These are the.
Speaker 1 (38:55):
SEC easy, easy, easy answer, that is, without a doubt.
Down in Stark, Vegas, those stinking cowbells I think are
the most obnoxious thing, not only in the SEC, the
most obnoxious thing in college football. They should confiscate every
one of those cowbells. It's ridiculous that they're allowed to
bring them into the stadium. There are no artificial noisemakers
that is in the rule book of the SEC. Yet
(39:17):
those Mississippi State fans get grandfathered in for some stupid,
unknown reason.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
They should not allow them to have those.
Speaker 1 (39:23):
That is, without a doubt, the worst tradition in all
of college football. I think, you know what, if they
could bring in cow bells, we should be able to
bring in whatever we want. We should be able to
bring in cow bells if we wanted to at Kroger Field.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
I would be I'm actually fascinated about the cow bells.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
I would like the hair in person.
Speaker 4 (39:40):
I always hear it on TV, but it'd be kind
of cool just to go in that arena and see,
like how loud it really is with the cow bells.
Speaker 2 (39:46):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (39:47):
A couple of just quick hitters here. Over the weekend,
some good NFL games you had. The Bengals won without
Joe Burrow. You also had a sixty four yard field
goal by Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey and then forty
six Charter to win the game.
Speaker 2 (40:01):
That was.
Speaker 1 (40:02):
Those two games were pretty crazy. And then you also
had in college football over the weekend Georgia Tech beating
Clemson with a fifty five yard field goal to win
the game. Clemson fans have got to be losing their
mind right now losing to Georgia Tech. Mario, Georgia Tech.
Speaker 4 (40:17):
One, that's a tough one. NFL games has been really good.
I know last Sunday it was what Bills and Ravens.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
That was.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
That was a good start. And yep, last last night
with the Cowboys. Man, these NFL games are getting really good.
Speaker 1 (40:27):
And then we also of course got to mention Kentucky
volleyball who had a perfect weekend. I think it was
really the KSR reverse curse.
Speaker 2 (40:34):
You know, we had the no longer curse.
Speaker 1 (40:37):
We may have broken the KSR curse having while we
did that, a couple a couple of volleyball players out
at Clark's Pumping Shop over the over the Friday Show,
and then they come out they beat SMU, They beat Houston,
so that was a top ten win over SMU big time.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
And then finally Coastal Carolina.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
I don't know if you saw this, but Coastal Carolina
Football is giving away free can sessions all season long.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
You like that idea, you go, I love that.
Speaker 3 (41:04):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
I don't think it includes beer. I don't think they
can just give out free beer.
Speaker 3 (41:08):
You think more people? Is that gonna bring more people in?
Speaker 2 (41:10):
You think, well people? I would say, well, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
You got to still buy your ticket to get in.
But then once you're in, it's like, uh yeah, definitely
the ticket.
Speaker 3 (41:17):
Yeah, it's included with the ticket. I love it. I
love that idea.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
All right, so let me tell you one more time.
Speaker 1 (41:22):
