Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome everyone. It is the KSR Pre Show. It's Wednesday,
September seventeenth. I am Shannon the Dude to give us
a call on the Clark's Pupping Shop Bowl line eight
five nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. That's
eight five nine two eight O cats give you our
whiskey thief call of the day. The KSR Pre Show
as always being brought to you by Ateles find Italian
(00:23):
Downing in Lexington.
Speaker 2 (00:24):
I am in the Loslle Studio.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
It is the calm before the storm for me because
tomorrow we go right back at at Round two with
Louder than Life Fest and we're going to be out
tomorrow and Mount Vernon at Community Trust Bank for the
Christian Appalachian Project.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
We'll talk more about that coming up later on.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
We are on day number three of Billy R Sports
still being out. So, you know what, Monday went really
well with Mario and I thought, you know what, let's
bring back Mario once again. So Mario is live at
KS Bar and Grill this morning.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
And who let you in the bar. You don't have
a key to get in there, do you?
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
I was gonna say, I'm actually studio man. That was
the whole problem. So I was like, you know what,
I'm just gonna go set up the board, or at
least try to set up the board.
Speaker 5 (01:07):
This kind of walked me through it.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
And I'm actually in studio, Shannon, so I'm not at
case bar and grill, not just yet.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
But Ryan's going to be there later though, right.
Speaker 4 (01:15):
Ryan is going to be there later. He's probably there
right now.
Speaker 2 (01:17):
Look at that commitment.
Speaker 1 (01:20):
See things don't work out, you can't get into the bar,
you go to the studio.
Speaker 5 (01:24):
It's this make it just if this for.
Speaker 1 (01:26):
Ryan, he would probably still be asleep right now, you know.
So I think I'm gonna bring him on with me
for the pre show tomorrow and Friday, since we're doing
the remote and you can join us if you want to.
But you know, yesterday we had Richie Farmer on the show.
It was the first time I'd ever had Richie on
the pre.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Show with me.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
He I thought he was great man. You know, sometimes
we sit down to do a show and it's like
man an hour. Sometimes it feels like two hours. Then
you have a guy like Richie who could come on
and tell stories about his playing time at Clay County
High school and at Kentucky and I could have sat
down and done another hour, maybe even two hours with
Richie yesterday. So we got to get him back on
(02:02):
the show. He is, yeah, yeah, yeah, And I don't
know if you met his friend Bucks.
Speaker 4 (02:11):
Sometimes I just called him out the blue. I love
his accents, called out the blue.
Speaker 5 (02:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
So I think they're going to be coming back on
KSR Richie and Buck on the thirtieth, he said yesterday,
So looking forward to that.
Speaker 4 (02:21):
And uh.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
I also really liked hearing Richie's stories about Rick patino
practices because I've always heard some legendary stories about how
just grueling and tough Rick Patino was on his players
during practice. You heard Richie say yesterday, a game day
was like a day off for those guys because when
they like, they would rather be playing the game than
go to practice because of just how tough he was
(02:45):
on those players.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
And I learned the term wash out yesterday. Wash out.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
That's what Patino would tell the players, wash out. And
everybody look at it like, what what does wash out means?
Speaker 5 (02:56):
What does that mean?
Speaker 2 (02:57):
What does that mean?
Speaker 1 (02:57):
Well, it means go get a drink of water, you dummy,
like actually giving you time to go. Like, man, you know,
you're you're running your butt off during practice and he
tells you to go get a drink of water. I
think you I would learn those terms really quickly if
I was in a Rick Patino practice, because I doubt
that he gave you too many.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
Water breaks while you were practicing for him.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
And fifteen, what it's been like fifteen twenty years later
and these guys are still talking about his practices. That's
how you know it's been like rough for those guys
in those practice.
Speaker 1 (03:25):
Twenty No, no, twenty years. No, no, no, not twenty years.
You think Richie played twenty years ago?
Speaker 5 (03:30):
When did Richie?
Speaker 6 (03:31):
When?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
What year?
Speaker 5 (03:32):
What decade?
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Early nineties? My friend, early night? Wait, man, I wasn't
even I know, I know, but I love this.
Speaker 1 (03:39):
I love that in your mind, Richie Farmer played for
Kentucky twenty years ago, So that would have put him
on the Tuppy Smith teams right back in two thousand
and five. No, man, Richie played back in like the
early nineties, late eighties, early nineties.
Speaker 5 (03:57):
Yeah, he wasn't.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
He was on the you know, he was on the
Unforgettables team team to played against Laytner you.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Remember the late team exactly. You know, the Laightner game.
That wasn't two thousand and five, Mario, that was nineteen
ninety two.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
So try own.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Richie Farmer is known for his mustache. That's that's the
kind of thing.
Speaker 5 (04:14):
All right.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
Yeah, yeah, I think as I introduced him yesterday, I said,
if you were to have the Mount Rushmore of Kentucky
mustaches throughout the years, Richie Farmer definitely belongs up up
on the Mount Rushmore. But yeah, try uh, let's see
thirty three years ago, not twenty years ago.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
I said fifteen at first, So yeah, it's pretty often,
all right.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
So keeping with the theme of basketball, and by the way,
we'll do a little ask anything Wednesday if you want
to jump in eight, five, nine, twenty two, eighty seven.
But keeping with the theme of basketball. Yesterday, Mario, we
had the field of sixty eight guys who were in town,
and uh, Mark Pope speaked with the guys after practice.
First of all, though, before we get into that, I
just want to say that the fact that Jeff Goodman
(04:58):
now works under the ON three umbrella and it's sort
of partners now with Kentucky Sports Radio is interesting to me.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Because Mario.
Speaker 1 (05:08):
Back in the day, like the early days of KSR,
Matt Jones would get on the radio just about every
day and just go in on Jeff Goodman because Goodman
would write these articles about Caliperi, you know, calling him
a sleazy used car salesman.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
And Matt didn't like that.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
So then Matt would, you know, get on the radio
each day and just go at Jeff Goodman. And he
was basically like enemy number one. It felt like back
in those early days of KSR. I'm talking around twenty eleven,
twenty twelve, those years. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he would, oh yeah,
they had. They had a bitter rivalry back and.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
Forth watching the video because they put out on sources say,
and he kind of when he got dropped off to
the airport with Jack and Yeah and Rob, he was
just kind of like getting I don't want to say emotional,
but he you know, he said it this felt kind
of weird, but it meant a lot to him just
being in the being back in the good graces of BBN,
and like you said, you know, him and Matt used
(06:07):
to go at it, so I guess this is kind
of weird for him too, that that he's kind of
joining on three. But you know, I'm sure it's gonna
be a good thing in.
Speaker 5 (06:14):
The long run.
Speaker 1 (06:15):
Well, I guess we all grow up after a while
and realize it's not that important. And then, I mean
the whole thing with you know, Caliperi, Matt, Matt kind
of soured on Calipari like most of our fan base
did too, and you know, it kind of just got
you know, got tired of his antics.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
But Pope said a lot yesterday.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
One of the things that he said, Mario, he says
he wants to break last year's record when it comes
to making the most three point shots in Kentucky history.
Last year's team broke that record. He also said that
seven players in practice are shooting seventy percent from three,
including Yellovich, who is I think he said this past
week shot seventy seven percent from three during last week's practice.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
So when I hear that we've.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Got seven guys on the team that are knocked down
three point shooters, that sounds like an NBA to me. Now,
well that translate into end game play, I don't know.
I mean, we heard, you know, stories about Kobe Braa
last year, and Kobe was great throughout a lot of
the season, but he also struggled throughout part of the
season as well. So I don't expect, you know, us
(07:15):
to really have seven guys who are going to shoot
seventy percent from three throughout the season. If that's the case,
forget about it. Just give us the title right now.
But it was good to hear that. It was good
to hear that coming from from Pope. Yesterday, on Jadan
Quaintan's he says that his recovery's going well and he's
healing faster than expected. He's, you know, going past these
benchmarks that they've set quicker than they could have imagined.
(07:39):
But they said they're going to be very cautious in
bringing him back. What does that mean.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
I wouldn't expect to see Jadan Quaintans out there in
a game until I mean, I would say December at
the earliest.
Speaker 2 (07:50):
I mean maybe January.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
Yeah, I was gonna say January, but I don't know
how much that's has changed. The last time we talked
with Pope, Matt interviewed Pope behind the scenes.
Speaker 5 (08:01):
He kind of talked with.
Speaker 4 (08:01):
Us, and he said January's most likely the time that
that Quainton should be coming back.
Speaker 5 (08:05):
That can change.
Speaker 4 (08:06):
Who knows, you know, what's the progress of his you know, rehab.
But overall, man, you said, you know shooting. You know,
this Kentucky team, I think it looks like they can
possibly run a platoon like they're they look yeah, yeah,
the the p word platoon.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
In that live stream yesterday a field of sixty eight.
And that makes me really excited because and it shows
how deep.
Speaker 5 (08:31):
This team can be.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
I mean, so many guys that you can really you know,
put the ball ball in their hands and they can
have success. Jalen Lowe, we heard how successful he is.
We talked about Quainton's he's kind of you know, on
the early tracks of his rehab.
Speaker 5 (08:45):
But he looks huge.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
I don't know, if you got a chance to check
out the live stream, he looks massive. He probably really
did grow two inches over the summer. He looks massive.
Speaker 2 (08:55):
Do you think the forty pounds is accurate?
Speaker 5 (08:57):
That he really is accurate?
Speaker 4 (08:59):
I think it's definitely accurate unless yeah, that's my prediction
on that. But yeah, like I said, if I don't
know if they can bring out the platoon, but they
they sure have the confidence and they definitely have the
depth to possibly do that.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
Yeah, he said, he said one through thirteen. So I'm
not so sure how the platoons would work, he said,
we're deep one through thirteen. I guess you have I
guess two platoons and then you got three leftovers.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I guess. I'm not sure how that's gonna work.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
I think it's great, man, because I know last season,
you know, the one thing that this team, it looks
like they're gonna be good through injuries, Like like, you know,
if any injuries come up, the depth that we have
this year, it looks like that won't be a problem.
Guys are going to be more willing to step up.
I know, last year we lost Jackson Robinson, we had
a lot of injuries with Lamont Butler. You know, you know,
those guys are really in and out of the lineup,
(09:46):
and it kind of kind of, I don't want to
say it definitely hurt them, especially in the tournament time
tournament tom. So, you know, I definitely think, you know,
with this roster that they have, they have so much
depth that you know, injuries may not really be a
problem this season because you have so many guys one
through thirteen.
Speaker 1 (10:01):
Speaking of injuries, Otega Oway was wearing that boot. A
lot of our fans kind of like, all right, what's
going on with Otega? It turns out it's turf toe,
the same situation that Joe Burrell is going through. But
I don't think it's nearly as serious as that. He
said basically, four weeks he has to wear that boot.
I think he's two weeks into it right now, so
he's got another two to go. But he was saying
(10:21):
if it were game day, he could still play through it.
So that tells me that all this stuff, yeah, it's
all precautionary stuff that they're doing right now, which makes
sense and I understand. Also not rushing back Jadan Quaintance.
I mean, we just touched on how deep this team is.
I would rather him set out, set out you know,
November and December. If you miss something, you're you know,
(10:46):
you take a loss or two in the regular season.
So what I mean, I would sacrifice a loss in
November or December to a team that maybe you could
have used Jadan Quaintans for versus bringing him back too early,
and then you know, if he gets injured this then
you gotta start that process all over again.
Speaker 4 (11:02):
So yeah, and I think I think you gotta kind
of ramp him up, like you don't want to just
I'm sure they wouldn't want to just throw him out.
And you know in SEC games, you know, first game
back from a torn a cl and you're going, you know,
in the middle of an SEC you know game like
Alabama Florida. You know, I think they would ramp him up,
maybe you know, late December or something like that, kind
(11:22):
of get make him get his legs, you know, used
to to playing in an actual game, and that's gonna
take time. But yeah, overall, man, I like, I like
Otaga away. You know, right now he's he's you know,
dealing with that turf toe. But I don't know if
you got a chance to see the live stream, they
were talking about one on one ones and basically they
said that Jalen Lowe was dominating the ones, and a
(11:45):
Taga always like, the only reason why he's dominating is
because I'm not out there. So I love the little
trash talk between the guys. And like I said, I'm
I'm excited for for this season. Fans should be excited
because Jeff Goodman said this last yesterday on and he
said that it's Final four bus and I believe that.
Speaker 5 (12:03):
I believe that, strongly believe that.
Speaker 1 (12:05):
Shitnon, yeah, I think a lot of coaches are going
to say that, but don't necessary don't really believe it
in the back of their mind that they have a
championship team. I mean, obviously, every coach has the goal
of going to the championship, but most coaches know that
that's not that really, you know, a realistic expectation for
the team they have. I believe that Mark Pope, actually
(12:26):
he in his heart of heart believes this is a
Final four team this year. If he can pull that
off in his second year, that is definitely overachieving. I mean,
you look at what he just did last year, throwing
that team together quickly and then going into the tournament
as far as they did. I mean, look, we're coming
off of losses to Oakland and Saint Peter's in the
last few years, so we were just happy to get
(12:48):
a win in the NCAA tournament. But for sure, I think, yeah,
I think that overall, what he did with that team
last year is nothing short of remarkable.
Speaker 5 (12:57):
Really, No, for.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Sure, I mean last year we went Sweet sixteen and
we didn't have one of our best players the entire tournament,
Jackson Robinson.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
A lot of people forget about that.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
And this year it's gonna be a little bit different
because the expectations are a lot higher. I mean, you
have a better roster, and I think the main thing
is that it is Kentucky. Like people like you got
to the Sweet sixteen last season. You gotta make a
one step up, you know, final four, Elite eight. I
honestly think it's final four bust as well, just because
(13:26):
the roster that you have. I mean, you have a
potential SEC Player of the Year on your team, so
I think that definitely matters. But yeah, like I said, man,
I'm excited for next season and we'll see. You know,
expectations are gonna be a little bit different from Mark Pope,
but he has the roster to have success.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
But you know he says final four or bust, Well,
what does that really mean? Final four or what?
Speaker 7 (13:47):
Like?
Speaker 1 (13:47):
We're not gonna fire Mark Pope if he doesn't make
the final four, you know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (13:51):
I hear him say.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
That, like Okay, yeah, Like obviously that's the expectation. We
feel like we got enough good enough team to get
to the final four, the same final four or bust
or what no, it's not final four or popes out
of here.
Speaker 4 (14:05):
You know, I hate I hate the the the phrase
of final four or busts. But the team this is Kentucky,
and the team is you know, he has a talented roster.
The thing that sucks about this whole thing is that
the tournament's not even about the best team. You know,
the best team does not win. It's it's mostly about matchups,
you know, and who gets hot at the right time exactly,
(14:25):
and who you're matched up against. I think that plays
a part, you know, and you know, like you said,
who gets hot at the right time.
Speaker 5 (14:31):
It's one game.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
It's not a series like the NBA or or you know,
baseball or whatever the case may be. It's actually one
game and it's all about the matchups who you're going
to play. And I think Kentucky the one thing they
have with this team, they're so deep they can match
up with kind of any any kind of team.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
As far as what it looks.
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Like, speaking of Field of sixty eight, are they going
to change their name when they expand the tournament? Are
they going to be like Field of seventy two.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
I think they should just keep it the same, just.
Speaker 1 (14:58):
They it's out out of day. You're not modern if
you're filled of sixty eight. That's the problem. When you
do something like that. You know, like Kentucky Sports Radio
is never going to change. It's always the state of
Kentucky's always going to be here. We're always going to
have sports, and I think we're always going to have radio,
So you know, yeah, for sure, unless we change it
to Kentucky Sports Podcast one day. But when you know,
when you call yourself Field of sixty eight, you know
(15:20):
that they're always trying to mess with a tournament and
change the amount of teams.
Speaker 2 (15:23):
So now I feel like all the branding.
Speaker 1 (15:25):
That you've done, all of the uh yeah, the URL
that you bought for your website and everything else, all
your merch it all, it all has to change. I
think we got a calling Field of seventy two moving
forward with the same, the same. Eight nine two, ah,
twenty two, eighty seven. It's ask Anything Wednesday, Shannon the Dude, Mario,
We'll be right back. It is the KSR pre Show.
(15:47):
It is the KSR pre Show. Eight five, nine two,
eight oh twenty two eighty seven, Shannon the Dude Mario
Maitland sitting in for Billy today. Mario Ritchie wrote me
and said, tell Mario our appreciate him thinking I look
good enough that I played only twenty years ago.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
I think you just made Richie's day.

know you're not much of a beer drinker, but I gotta,
first of all, just say that over the weekend, I
(17:12):
went to my Kroger store in Mount Washington, went to
the beer section and it was really cool to look
up on the shelf and there I am Shannon the
Dude's brew. It's now out in Kroger stores throughout Kentucky.
A lot of people have been asking when is the
beer going to come out, and it is out in
well different Kroger stores throughout Kentucky at different times. It
will be out at some point this month. It depends
(17:33):
on the store and it depends on the distributors. But
the one in Mount Washington's already sold out, so for
anybody in Bullet County trying to get some of my beer,
don't go to the Mount Washington one because they are
sold out right now.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
Mario, that is so cool, man, How does that make
you feel?
Speaker 4 (17:47):
You have your own, your face, your whole brand is
on a beer bottle, Like, how does that feel?
Speaker 6 (17:53):
Man?
Speaker 5 (17:53):
That is so cool?
Speaker 2 (17:55):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (17:55):
Well again, like the guy who did the artwork on it,
his name is Ben Runko's. Yeah, he's a local artist
and we just went to him. He's the same guy
that did the Alice Blue Gown logo for my band.
And this guy is just an amazing artist, and we
just gave him like some ideas, like hey, put together
(18:15):
a label. Let's put together like the three things that
I do, so you know, radio, the wrestling stuff, the
band stuff. And he incorporated it into like a i
don't know, like a sort of collage and put it
all together. And I'm like looking at this label, going,
this is the coolest label of any beer on.
Speaker 2 (18:33):
The shelf, Like this is this is the coolest looking label.
Speaker 1 (18:36):
Like even if I didn't, you know, like that kind
of beer or even know who I am, I would.
Speaker 2 (18:40):
Get that just based based on the label itself. Is
really cool.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
So he did an amazing job on that, and then
I would just I would just tell you the beer
on the inside is really good too, So, uh, I'm
gonna have.
Speaker 5 (18:50):
To try it.
Speaker 4 (18:50):
I don't think I've ever tried your beer. You know,
I'm not really a big beer drinker, but yeah, I'm
a definitely. Since you're you're on there, are You're gonna
have to have to go to Kroger and you know,
get a pack or something like that and at least
try it see if I like it.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Yeah, I know you're more of a fireball guy. I
remember you and uh.
Speaker 1 (19:08):
You wasn't it fireball in Seattle? That you were all
about some fireball?
Speaker 5 (19:13):
Well there, that's what people were giving me. They were
giving me fireball.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
I didn't just I was you weren't ordering it for
fire That's what I was being.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
People were giving me that, man, So.
Speaker 2 (19:22):
I say, you didn't seem to be turning it down
like I didn't see it.
Speaker 4 (19:26):
I didn't just we just beat gonzag on the road
in Seattle, so you know I was in a good move.
Speaker 2 (19:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
What do you do when you beat Gonzaga on the
road in Seattle? You take fireball shots? Of course I
was would just celebrate. On the the football side of things,
Kentucky South Carolina has been set for a seven forty
five kickoff, you know, Mario.
Speaker 5 (19:45):
Man, Yeah, yeah, it's the that's a long day.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yeah, Kentucky's on this eight game losing streak. So the
good thing is though you got South Carolina with her
starting QB out, you saw what Vandy just did to
him on the road. I feel like this is a
chance for Kentucky to go get one of these swing
games any one. Yeah, man, if you get this game,
I think there's still a lot of people that are
on the fence. They don't really know is this Kentucky
(20:09):
team for real? Do they have a legitimate chance to
making a bowl game? I think if you get this
South Carolina game, that might flip some people who are
kind of like, I don't know how I feel about
this football team, but this is a game that you
can get. This is a vulnerable team right now. Like
I said, with they're starting QB Sellers out, I assume
he's going to be out for this next game.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
He had a head.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Injury, so usually those you know, take a little bit
longer to heal from. They you know, have to go
through concussion protocol to make sure that he's good to go,
so there's his chance that he could play. I haven't
seen an official ruling one way or the other, but
I feel like this is a game that you go
on the road and you can steal this one on
next Saturday, and.
Speaker 4 (20:48):
You got the momentum. You can use this to kind
of you know, say you just beat Eastern Michigan. You
got momentum there, and then you go in there still
one in South Carolina. Now you really got some momentum
headed into you know, much tougher sec play. So like
I said, I think they have a chance to win,
but you know, keep the game, keep it a very
low scoring game. It's probably gonna be a low scoring game.
(21:10):
I'll expect Kentucky to do that. But you go in
there and this is the first road game of the season,
so it's gonna be interesting to see how guys really
adapt in the past from past experience. Kentucky's not a
terrible road game team. Road team, like, they go on
the road and they play pretty decent. Movie stole one
from Ole Miss last season. Maybe maybe we're gonna have
(21:30):
a repeated at.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Hopefully assuming that Kedder Bowley is the guy who I
don't think there's any reason to not think that he
would be the starting quarterback against South Carolina. This is
gonna be, I think, our first true look for him
starting the game and to see what we have here.
I mean, this is really a chance for him to
break out and solidify himself as QB one for Kentucky.
I do expect a lot of running in that game too.
(21:54):
I mean, our running backs have been really the best
part of our offense so far this season, and of
course our has been a big part.
Speaker 2 (22:01):
Of that as well.
Speaker 1 (22:01):
Eight five nine, two eighth twenty two eighty seven. We'll
take your calls. Coming up next today Shannon the Dude
and Mario Maitland here on the KSR Pre Show.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (22:09):
Welcome back. It is the KSR Pre Show. Eight five nine,
two eighth twenty two eighty seven. Will go to the
phones in just a minute. One person writes it on Twitter,
and uh says, tell Mario, I really enjoyed watching Richie
Farmer play with Tayshawn Prince. They were quite the one
two punch back in the day twenty years ago.
Speaker 2 (22:30):
Yeah, well, I.
Speaker 5 (22:31):
Mean isn't that those are two different errors.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
Right exactly. That's the joke, that's the that's the point.
That's the point this person was making there.
Speaker 1 (22:38):
They're making fun of you, saying they enjoyed watching those
two play together. Since you think that Richie Farmer played
twenty years ago, Kentucky.
Speaker 5 (22:44):
We Ever wrote that that was a good one you sent,
you sent me.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
During the break, Pat Kelsey saying that louisvill is point
guard you.
Speaker 5 (22:52):
It's all over my time.
Speaker 2 (22:54):
That can't be real.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
Isn't that crazy? Is he?
Speaker 1 (22:57):
He's look I like Pat Kelsy crazy like I actually
kind of like Pat Kelsey. He seems like, you know,
kind of a goofy guy a little bit it's kind
of like Mark Pope a little bit, a little less goofy,
but it seems like a really, you know, down to
earth type guy. Not a guy that is easibly easily
easily not likable point guard, point guard you though.
Speaker 4 (23:16):
Shan, I love Pat Kelsey. Pat Kelsey recruited my brother
and he, you know, welcome my family with open arms
when he recruited him. And man, he's a good, good dude,
great energy, very similar to Mark Pope, but point guard
to you Shannon.
Speaker 2 (23:32):
Like, how many point guard?
Speaker 4 (23:33):
Says that so confidently, like he knows Kentucky's sixty miles
away from Louisville, and he says something like that, point
guard to you, how many point guards did Louisville have
like in the past.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
How many do they have in the NBA right now?
Can we look that up?
Speaker 4 (23:46):
Yeah, that's a good that's a good fact. I don't
know how many you have in the NBA right now.
But man, like, how do you say that?
Speaker 5 (23:53):
That's crazy?
Speaker 1 (23:54):
I guess you can say whatever you want, but then
people like us consider and laugh at you and mock
you because Lobell to my I don't Yeah, I don't
think they get any point If they do, maybe one
in the NBA.
Speaker 4 (24:05):
The one that they have currently, uh Brown, he's he's
potentially there. I believe he's potentially gonna be a top
five pick. So he's he's really good. He's a really
good point guard they have that they have right now.
But as far as point guard, you like, you're you're
a factory of point guards. Come on now, Pat, I
love you, Pat.
Speaker 8 (24:22):
I think that's kind of crazy. But at the at
the same time, like I think they're counting Donovan Mitchell
as a point guard, even though he really wasn't.
Speaker 5 (24:29):
A point guard.
Speaker 3 (24:29):
Aga.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
Okay, so there's two.
Speaker 4 (24:30):
But you got to but still like it wasn't really
a point guard, even as.
Speaker 8 (24:35):
A Louisville fan, like, it's not a factory of point guards.
Maybe they have good production over the last couple of
years out of.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
The point wit wait wait, wait, you're a Lovelle fan. Austin.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
Yeah, I knew. I knew.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
I should have produced the show on my own today
we were running over here at the last minute.
Speaker 2 (24:51):
I didn't know if he was coming in today.
Speaker 4 (24:52):
But stand up for Louisville.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
You know, I had to go to war uh Mar.
Speaker 1 (25:00):
You know, one person's asking us, who do you think
the starting five will be for Kentucky this year?
Speaker 2 (25:03):
I don't even think it really matters.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Again, when you're that deep, I think it matters about
who gets the most playing time. But who's going to
be your starting five? Well, I think Jalen Lowe and
O Way those are lock ins, absolutely, Brandon Garrison probably
at the five locked in, and now the other two
I don't know. I could go with the two transfers.
(25:27):
I could go with you know, Diabatee at the four,
Aberdeen at the three. But I think Jack Pilgrim was
saying that Aberdeen would be the backup. Wow, I think
he said that yesterday. So I have a hard time
believing though that a guy who just won a national
championship with Florida would would be willing to come off
the bench. And you know, again, money talks. It's all
about the nil money if we're being honest about it, right,
(25:48):
And I don't blame him, I'm not saying there's anything
wrong with that. But to go from a national championship
team to Kentucky and be the backup coming off the bench, Yeah,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (25:57):
I mean, maybe that happens.
Speaker 5 (25:59):
Maybe it can go either way.
Speaker 4 (26:00):
Shannon, he can he can expect, you know, like he
he this is Kentucky. He understands that, like he probably
you know, it can go the other way. As if
like Aberdeen may be thinking, hey, I'm going to Kentucky,
I gotta compete for a spot, you know, like maybe
I'm not guaranteed a starting spot. Maybe maybe some guys,
some guys actually like to like compete, you know, for
a starting spot. But I don't know, man, the starting
(26:21):
starting five wise, I know they put out.
Speaker 5 (26:23):
Kentucky put out.
Speaker 4 (26:24):
Like a video with I don't know if he's seen it.
They put out a video it's like a TikTok and
they were taking a photo shoot with five guys Jaylen, Lowe, Aberdeen,
Oh take a Away, Diabat, and Garrison. So I'm guessing
that's the starting five. I don't know if he's seen
that video. Was Jasper, Johnson, Danton on the side. But yeah,
like I said, I don't know, it doesn't really matter.
(26:47):
I honestly thought Jasper had a chance in starting back,
you know, early in the summer. I was one of
those guys who's, you know, hey, Jasper can start. Jasper
can start. But like I said, it doesn't really matter
who starts. They're they're deep enough to possibly play platoon.
I know Otago Away believes that he said that on
Field of sixty eight last night that he believes that
they can play platoon, So it doesn't really matter, you know,
(27:08):
who really starts. I'm going with I believe, like I said,
low Otaga, Garrison, and then you mix in Aberdeen. I
think Aberdeen gives you some you know, a veteran role
kind of guy. And then ended out with with uh
Medua Diabat. I think that's your start in five.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
So you agree with me then, because that's it?
Speaker 5 (27:30):
Yeah, yeah, I don't agree with There we go.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
I'm used to my co host not agreeing with anything
that I say.
Speaker 5 (27:35):
You agree with me, I agree, I agree. I think
that that's the solid starting five right there.
Speaker 2 (27:39):
Let's go to the phones and talk to John Short.
Speaker 1 (27:41):
John Short, Good morning, buddy, how y'all doing doing well?
You're a great American. I know you're excited about Kentucky
volleyball coming up. They got Lobell at the Young Center
on When is that it's tomorrow?
Speaker 2 (27:53):
Tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (27:54):
Right?
Speaker 2 (27:55):
Yeah, that game is on ESPN you.
Speaker 6 (28:01):
John, Yes, seeing Okay, you'll be ready for that gang.
Speaker 3 (28:05):
Yep.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
We'll see Louisvell in a few years time. Let's read
loisll yah.
Speaker 5 (28:10):
I hope.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
So I feel like that Kentucky's volleyball team has a
national championship contender. This year, They've played a gauntlet of
top ten teams, Lobels number three. It's gonna be another
tough matchup. But I feel like Kentucky, regardless of what
happens in the regular season, when they get to the tournament,
they're going to be battle tested for sure, Schedules tough, and.
Speaker 6 (28:32):
Then we need to between stem in volleyball. If we're
gonna do it in basketball, we need to do it.
If you do, who's being basketball like in twenty fifteen,
you do in volleyball to the between system.
Speaker 1 (28:41):
Okay, Well, we'll pass your suggestion on to coach Craig
Skinner for you.
Speaker 2 (28:45):
John, good to hear from you. Thanks for the yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 6 (28:48):
Yeah, okay, Okay, Now I know everybody likes said the raison.
We can tell it in twenty yard life. It's not
the result the blues because that is blue white.
Speaker 1 (28:57):
Okay, it's the blue zone, all right. So I've got
my list here. You want me to tell Craig Skinner
he needs to platoon, and you want me to tell
Tom Leitch to no longer refer to it as the
red zone the blue zone.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
That's right, all right. I will pass on your concerns. John.
Thanks to the call. I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (29:18):
I won't get to see the volleyball game tomorrow because
I will be at it louder than life fast. Have
I convinced you yet to come hang out with me
and you know, party for one day a louder or no, Mario.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
How different is Louder than Life compared to Bourbon and Beyond.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Bro Bro You have no idea like Bourbon and beyond Fast.
I call it Louder than Life's laid back little brother.
You know, like you get a good mix of people.
There are some young people there, there's some older people there.
Louder than Life it is its own animal. I've always said,
Mario that the best people watching on the planet is
the Kentucky State Fair. But then Louder than Life came along,
(29:53):
where basically electrical tape is a an acceptable form of wardrobe.
Like you see people just walking around and there's electrical
tape just strategically placed on people's body, and that is
what they're rocking with out there.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Sounds like a psyche man.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
I'm just telling you.
Speaker 1 (30:10):
I know you're not a metal guy, and look, I'm
not a metal guy either.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
I like rock.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
I don't like Cookie Monster rock Whele. You know, you're
basically I can't stand that stuff like that's not for me.
And the lineup is kind of a lot of that,
to be honest with you, But there's some really good
bands outside of that. But I feel like regardless if
you like the music or not. Mario, you would have
a blast just people watching and you know, going around
(30:37):
to the different tents and seeing all the different things
that are there outside of the music, because it's really
its own thing. Like you can go for the music,
or you can just go to like you know, Kentucky
Kingdom and ride thunder Run all day if you want to.
You know, there's like there's so much to do there.
I feel like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I feel like you
and I could have a good time out there.
Speaker 5 (30:57):
So probably could.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
If you change your mind and you decide you want
to come out there, you just let me know.
Speaker 8 (31:02):
Marsh pit looking, I would love to see.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
It, Mario. Have you ever been in a mosh pit before?
Speaker 5 (31:08):
What? What is a mosh pit? Educate me a little bit.
What is that?
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Have you ever been crowdsurfing before?
Speaker 7 (31:15):
No?
Speaker 5 (31:15):
I have not.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
You know what crowdsurfing is when we pick you up
and we hash you along all the way across from
the back of the stage all the way up to
the front. Mash pitting is where like you carve out
a circle in the like the middle of a massive humanity,
all right, and then you just sort of just go
out each other. You know, you're just bumping and just
(31:36):
running into each other. Look, I've never done that before
to me. To me, it's it's kind of a dumb thing.
But you know, you see you get knocked you see
people get knocked.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
Out, and I'm like, I don't want any part of that.
But I'm just telling you.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
The the aggression level from Bourbon and Beyond is at
about a one. The aggression level Louder than Life is
about an eleven.
Speaker 2 (31:58):
So it's it was not for me. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:02):
And they've already sold out Friday and general mission four
day has already sold out too, so it's gonna be
a lot of a lot of people out there. So
I'm just saying, if you change your mind, you let
me know. Eight five nine, twenty two eighty seven. Let's
go back to the phone to talk to j kjke.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
What's up, Hey, Shannon, how are you doing this morning? Then?
I'm glad you had to have you. I'm glad you
have Mario Harper Jones on with you today.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Oh no, no, no, no, don't don't, don't don't open
that can of worms.
Speaker 5 (32:30):
People love it, they don't it.
Speaker 9 (32:34):
No, I was gonna ask you Shannon uh on Monday.
You send it like you were kind of down on
the on the WWE. I wanted I wanted to know
if you if you're elaborate on that a little bit, son,
like you weren't watching them near.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
I haven't watched WWE since it went to Netflix.
Speaker 2 (32:53):
I just I don't know.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
I think after a while, I just lose interest in things,
and that's one of them.
Speaker 9 (33:01):
You're you're not down with.
Speaker 1 (33:04):
It's all right, it's all right, Like you know, all
the guys that I grew up watching are now sort
of phased out, and all these other guys that come in.
It's just it's not the same for me as it
was growing up through the nineties and watching WWE, because
I think that's when it was at its absolute peak,
at its best. And just to try to compare, like
what I've seen and what little I've seen recently of
(33:25):
WWE compared to that, there is no comparison.
Speaker 2 (33:27):
So I don't know.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
It's hard for me to watch, and I just I
just haven't taken the time to watch it. Plus, it
seems like every one of these they don't even call
them pay per views anymore. They're calling them premium live
events seem to be about seven and a half hours long,
and I don't know who has time for that much wrestling,
Like it's even too much wrestling for me.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
So I just I stopped watching.
Speaker 9 (33:46):
And they've taken and Channing, They've moved, They've they've taken
Saturday that made event off of They've taken in that
main event off of network TV too. I don't know
if you've heard about this.
Speaker 1 (33:58):
No, no, no, well I won't be watching it regardless
of what TV station it's on. So yeah, I appreciate it. Yeah,
you too, Jake, Thanks for the call.
Speaker 5 (34:07):
Appreciate the call.
Speaker 2 (34:08):
Mario. Have you was that your Matt Mario? Have you
Have you ever watched wrestling?
Speaker 6 (34:13):
No?
Speaker 5 (34:14):
I have not.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
Have you never seen me? Have you never seen me
in ov W?
Speaker 4 (34:18):
Yeah, I mean I've seen like clips and okay ore
in there. Yeah, so I've seen clips of wrestling, but
I don't think i've ever, you know, sat down and
watched a full wrestling show.
Speaker 2 (34:27):
We've never gotten you to an ov W show.
Speaker 5 (34:29):
No, No, it was before my time.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
What you mean before what do you mean before your time?
I still wrestle, now, what are you talking about?
Speaker 5 (34:36):
Ov W is not before your time. Hit me out there, man, like.
Speaker 2 (34:40):
The invitees always there. OVW still exists.
Speaker 5 (34:43):
Yeah, you're gonna have to get me out there. I
think you I had an experience for me.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
I think you would have fun at an OVW show.

eight twenty two eighty seven. But Shannon the Dude Mario
Maitland sitting in Tomorrow, we're going to be out in
Mount Vernon for the Christian Appalachian Project at Community Trust Bank.
(36:17):
Will be out there from nine until noon. I think
we might even have some Louder than Life fust tickets
to give away out there too, So come on out
and we'll have some other stuff to give away as well.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
I got to ask you about this Mario.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
Have you seen Dabo Sweeney whining again, responding to critics
because when they lost to Georgia Tech on Saturday, they
also lost to LSU to kick off the season. Did
you hear this clip of Dabo? No, all right, I'm
gonna play it for you right now. This is Dabo
basically saying, if Clipson is tired of winning, they can
send me on my way.
Speaker 2 (36:47):
Here he is if they if they.
Speaker 7 (36:49):
Want me gone, they can.
Speaker 10 (36:49):
If they tired of winning, they can send me on
the way, because that's all we've done is win. So
if they tired of winning, we've had. We've won this
league eight out of the last ten years. Is that
not good?
Speaker 7 (37:00):
Asking? Is that good?
Speaker 10 (37:02):
I don't know if that's good or not To win
your league eight out of ten years, to go to
the playoffs seven out of ten years, being four national championships,
went twice.
Speaker 7 (37:10):
Yeah, we little down right. Now, take your shots.
Speaker 10 (37:12):
But I got a long memory. In case y'all don't know,
We'll be all right. We'll bounce back. This is a
program built to last, always has been, always will be.
And I would just say, if you give up on
us after if you don't believe on us, because we've
lost two games down to the last trade and we're
wanting you didn't believe in us anyway, so it don't matter.
Speaker 7 (37:32):
You wasn't all in anyway. If you all in, you
burn the ships.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Man.
Speaker 10 (37:35):
You ain't no, there ain't no exit strategy, like you're
freaking all in.
Speaker 7 (37:39):
And hey listen, I mean Clemson's tired of winning.
Speaker 10 (37:41):
They send me on my way, but I'm gonna go
somewhere else and coach, I ain't going to the beach.
Speaker 2 (37:47):
So there you go. There's Dabbo.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Could you imagine Mark Student's coming out and saying like
something like that. I mean, come on, do you just
lost the Georgia tack? You're one and two and this
guy's like, well, you could just send me on my
word your Dabo. I mean, he's the same guy that
got into it with the during his Coaches show last
year because the guy was saying, what's going on with
you guys and basically questioning why Clemson is paying the
amount of money that they're paying Dabo to coach there
(38:10):
if you can't win games. Davos getting a little chesty.
But you know what, but these guys have such big
payouts they can do that because he's like, what do
I care?
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Fire me?
Speaker 5 (38:19):
You know they do that?
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah, fifty million dollars payouts. I mean, it's ridiculous. I
don't know why they ever started giving coaches that that
sort of payout to go away and stop coaching. You
start doing it with one coach, and then next thing,
you know, every coach has this this buyout that they
can get to not coach. I mean, we should all
have jobs like that.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Why do they feel like, like, why do coaches feel
like they have to do that? Like when they go
in front of the press and then they brag on themselves,
like like we're like, why do they do that? This
is not the first coach that I've heard, you know
kind of you know, yeah, but Davo.
Speaker 1 (38:53):
Is the I think the waniest coach in college football.
Speaker 5 (38:58):
I just I don't, I don't. I don't get that.
Speaker 4 (38:59):
But he is right in a sense like they he has,
you know, built the program you know over there. So
I don't know, man, I'm not a fan of just
bragging on myself. And you know, they they list all
the accolades and all that. It's like you could tell
he was very stressed in that situation.
Speaker 1 (39:15):
As much crap as we give Mark Stoops for saying
we're going to get back to work, We're gonna get
nose to the grindstone. You know, we always give it.
We always joke about, you know, his answers, his stock
answers that he always gives. I would rather say what
he says that not now versus what like Dabo Swen
and give him one of those type of answers.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
I'm glad we don't have to deal with that.
Speaker 5 (39:31):
On himself and all that.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
I feel like that doesn't like, it doesn't play out
well for him. He may think it comes out, you know, well,
like he's bragging on himself, but it kind of backfires
in a sense.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
There's a remind you of a certain basketball coach we

hard washing that's going on.
