Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KSR pre Show.
Today is Monday, October thirteenth. I am Billy Rutledge along
with Shannon the Dude. You can give us a call
on the Clark's Pumping Shot phone line. That's eight five
nine two eight oh two two eight seven. Text us
at five oh two two six five sixty six five
six And as always, the KSR pre Show is brought
(00:21):
to you by Italics Fine Italian Dining in Lexington, Kentucky.
That's where I'm at today here high atop the city Center.
Shannon the Dude is in Louisville. Got to see my
man Shannon at Wild Eggs on Friday before the bye
week weekend.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
What's up, Shannon? How are you doing well?
Speaker 3 (00:37):
Doing well? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (00:37):
It was good to be there on Friday at Wild Eggs.
I'm just wondering why we are here today because today
is a national holiday. Do you know what national holiday
today is?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Is it Columbus Day today? Well?
Speaker 4 (00:48):
Yeah, but I wasn't really I was talking about another
national holiday.
Speaker 3 (00:51):
I just looked up.
Speaker 2 (00:52):
Indigenous People Day. That's what you must be referencing.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Nope, Uh, the one.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
I was wanting to celebrate was no broad day, So
I don't know why we're working today.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
That's a national holiday. We should all be off for.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
Well in rock radio, maybe, Shannon.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
I still remember walking into the WKQQ studio with all
the what would you call that garments on the wall.
Speaker 3 (01:14):
They were brawls hanging from the ceiling.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
There was a lot on the walls and from the
ceilings and all the signatures. It was just different, a
different vibe than the rooms that all have to look
the same nowadays. You're at iHeartRadio, No try, but good
to be with you again, dude. It was a great
weekend for me. Without a Kentucky game. Gave me some
time to refresh and get ready to go. Meanwhile, I
(01:38):
saw you singing with like a goat man or something
over the weekend. Was that Alice Blue gown playing at
the festival over bit.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
That's right, the goat man. We found him, We got
the goat man.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
We had him down, We gave him a noogie, and
he got up there and played cowbell during Kryptonite, the
three Doors Down song.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
It's like, I want to be involved, no, but it was.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
You know, I was a little bit hesitant to agree
to play that show. But then after it got out
there and I was like, well, I don't know, like,
will there be a lot of people at a goat
man festival?
Speaker 2 (02:07):
It was huge.
Speaker 5 (02:07):
It was a lot.
Speaker 3 (02:08):
P Oh my gosh.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
I was like, really, I was really surprised as to
how many people came out there.
Speaker 3 (02:13):
So if you were one of the people.
Speaker 4 (02:15):
Who were out there, thank you, and we look forward
to planning our next show coming up. I get about
a month from now to our next show.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Yeah, those ABG shows, they're always a good time. If
you haven't seen him, go check our guy out, Shannon
the dude. He is a rock star, no doubt. I
got to play a lot of golf. But you know,
we've got a lot to get to today, Shannon, whether
it be the happenings in the college football world. I
may have forgotten that we scheduled some soccer players to
come into the studio later today.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Is this now, you scheduling soccer player which I'm fine, Like,
ill support Lexington FC. I'm happy with that. But I
didn't know that we were going to interview players today.
So you may be doing the heavy lifting on these
interviews that you schedule and forget to tell me about.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
That's fine, that's fine. You know, Lexington Sporting Club is
making a playoff push. They've got one game room at
their new stadium here in Lexington, So we're going to
talk to some of the guys on the team.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
That'll be coming up at the bottom of the hour.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
But over the weekend, two big events for Kentucky basketball
with FanFest and Big Blue Madness. The return of John
Wall in the same jumper that he was wearing doing
the John Wall Dance back in the day. Tubby Smith
made a return to Big Blue Madness for the first
time since he was a coach at Kentucky. A lot
of good vibes over the weekend, Channon, it looked like
a lot of fun. You weren't there. I wasn't either,
(03:29):
So what were some of the takeaways that you had?
Speaker 6 (03:31):
Well?
Speaker 4 (03:31):
From Big Blue Madness itself? Of course John Wall, I mean,
how cool is that. I think Ryan even suggested they
do that, and I don't think that he knew that.
That was the surprise we kept hearing of all this surprise.
Not only did we get John Wall, but as you
just mentioned, Tubby Smith, who came back to Big Blue
Madness for the first time since he was the coach here,
So it's always good to bring back those guys. I
think Tubby was originally he said in that interview that
(03:53):
I heard with Maggie Davis.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
He was supposed to be there last year.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
But wasn't able to get there because his I think
his sister was and he wasn't able to make it there.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
But glad that they brought him back.
Speaker 4 (04:02):
Always good to have, you know, former coaches come back
and give them their flowers. I don't think we'll ever
bring Billy Gillespie back, but nonetheless, I digress. Big Blue
Madness was a hit once again. They do such a
great job with that. It's so entertaining and always good
to see former players and former coaches come back.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Now you remember I beat that drum like a few
months ago, maybe even a year ago, saying time to
bring back Billy g and do what celebrate the SEC
Coach of the Year is what you ought to do?
Speaker 4 (04:33):
Can we drop the curtain like we did last time
at Big Blue Madness when he was introduced as the coach,
They dropped the curtain and here comes Billy, and then
all those years later you go, can we put the
curtain back up?
Speaker 3 (04:43):
Billy? Behind the curtain again.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
No, he'll come back.
Speaker 1 (04:46):
Well, based on the reaction that we got that day,
maybe not everybody's ready for that, but no, no.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
You know we had Rick come back last year.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Now Tubby this year it's you know, Mark Pulpe just
gets it and he is starting to bring back not
only the nostalgia, but what a lot of Kentucky fans
want to these events. Trent Noah wins the three point
contest and Colin Chandler soars through the air and hits
that dunk. Shannon definitely not something I can.
Speaker 4 (05:08):
Do with a little assist from John Wall. Little assistan
from John even cooler. You got to incorporate John Wall
when he's there, right.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
Yeah, Now did they do that? Was that on one take?
Because I don't know. I saw the highlights of it.
Speaker 4 (05:20):
But I didn't know, like did they You know, sometimes
when they do these dunk contests, it takes them three
or four times to do it, and after you watched
him fail for the first two or three, it's not
nearly as impressive when they finally get the dunk down
on the fourth try.
Speaker 3 (05:33):
But it looked like John Wall had like one little.
Speaker 4 (05:36):
Like practice toss and then after that I think I
think it was in one take on the reaction.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I think it may have been one take just because,
like you said, I can really take the energy out
of it if you're missing it four times before you
actually hit it. But good to hear from Colin Chandler
and Trent Noah doing things well. At one point in
Big Blue Madness, they brought a fan out to hit
a half court shot for twenty five foul dollars, and
he couldn't make it. The third time he could make it,
(06:04):
so for the fourth time, Mark Pope did a little
Pat McAfee and said he'd give away five thousand dollars
of his own money if he hit the fourth and
final shot, and the fan actually got Cam Williams to
hit the shot and then he made it, so he
won the five thousand dollars from Mark Pope's pocket. I
absolutely loved that. It seems like Jasper Johnson was the
best dancer on the team. He was really the only
(06:26):
one that I saw dance.
Speaker 3 (06:27):
The rest of them are kind of like, Eh, here
we are.
Speaker 4 (06:30):
Would you be a dancer if you were on the squad,
would you walk out and do like a billy dance
a billy shimmy.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
You better believe I'm gonna do a billy shimmy. But
here's the thing.
Speaker 1 (06:39):
I'm not a dancer, so you're gonna get what you get,
you know. I hope you've got low expectations when it
comes to the billy shimmy.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
But Jasper was moving.
Speaker 7 (06:47):
Man.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
He's for somebody that says that he's created the six
seven meme. He's somebody that is up to date on
his dance moves. First of all, is that true? Do
we know that to actually be true?
Speaker 3 (06:57):
That he did?
Speaker 4 (06:58):
And I still don't under stand what the six seven is?
Six seven Mario tried to explain it to us after
the Wild Eggs remote that six seven is basically it
means nothing. It's just a way for the younger generation
to make fun of us old people who are trying
to figure out and don't know what it is.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
So I think six seven means nothing.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
That's correct. Yeah, it is.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
It's like an inside joke for the younger generation to
say around us to make us feel old. Yeah, and
boy do I feel old? Like I didn't think i'd
ever get to that stage, Shannon, You know, like not
knowing the pop culture, the lingo and I'm I'm firmly
here at thirty dude.
Speaker 4 (07:32):
I was just looking at like the top Halloween costumes
for this year, and I don't recognize any except for one.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Oh tell, well, tell me, like, do you have a
couple of them right now?
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Well, it's all like characters from Minecraft and something called
K pop demon Hunters, like the top four K Pop
Demon Hunters characters.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
And I don't even know what Kate, I don't even
know what those words mean.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Kate know k pop, but that's Courty's the demon hunter.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
I have no This is k pop like k pop music,
like Korean pop. Yeah, That'skoreean pot Okay, So it's like
some sort of anime thing I'm guessing. And then the
only one that I recognized on there was the Loraxe
from Doctor Seuss. Somehow, for some reason, that was in
the top ten. I don't know why it's even in
the top ten. Cour you recognize the Lox, I know that,
I know h Green Eggs and ham Sam I am,
(08:18):
but uh yeah, that makes me feel old when I
don't even know anything on the top ten.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
Boy that's coming up, isn't it. I mean, we've got
Halloween just a couple weeks away. Yeah, and we've already
been to Shannon the Dude's garage and got the pumpkins
ready to go. Haven't carved those yet, Okay, yeah, you
get ready. It's about carving time.
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Well, when you carve it, I want to see what
montrosity you turn my beautiful pumpkin into. I want to
see your carving skills. I can't wait to see what
comes of it.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Well, as long as you don't post it like my
garage video, which I could probably send you an update
of that too.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Yeah, I haven't done it yet to my credit.
Speaker 4 (08:52):
Like you know, you want to talk about most trustworthy
people on the show. I have a lot of blackmail
on you guys. I got your garage which looks like
a horder moved in. I've got that picture I've never
shared with the public. I've got Matt jones bruised butt picture,
which I've never shared before. I think I've got some
stuff on Ryan Drew. I don't know if I got
anything on Drew or not. I don't have to do
(09:12):
some digging on that.
Speaker 2 (09:13):
You're very honorable in that way.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
It's just at the same time you'll go on KSR
and you'll say that I had the worst looking spiral
of the group when we threw catch in the backyard.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Which is just not true at all, Shade and the
best spiral of the.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Group, not according to Ryan. Ryan disagreed.
Speaker 2 (09:30):
No, you both both of you and Ryan.
Speaker 4 (09:33):
Well, we just like to pile on you, you know, I know,
that's what That's what we do.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Now. As far as this fan.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Fest, that yeah, what is my next thing?
Speaker 3 (09:40):
All right? It looked like everybody had a good time.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
But the one thing that I was kind of surprised
that they were doing at the fan fest Billy was
they had a tattoo artist there and people were getting tattoos.
And I thought, I even said this at Wild Eggs
after Mark Pope got off the the air with.
Speaker 3 (09:56):
This, what a very lovel thing to do.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
Let's be honest, if if this were the Lobo fan
Fast and they were doing tattoos on.
Speaker 3 (10:04):
Site, we would be laying into them. We would be
making fun of them so much. And what a lobl
thing to do.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
You can go get your nose pierced in a neck
tattoo at louisvill Fan Fast, and yet here we are
doing it at Kentucky's fan fast, and people actually got tattoos.
I saw an L's down tattoo that somebody got on
their arm. But Billy, when that person look the way
it's positioned on their arm, it's l's down as long
as that person keeps their arms down. If the person
(10:33):
were to raise the arm, oh no, the L would
go up. They didn't think that one through, did they.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
I didn't see the picture of video of that, but
that is you did not think that one through. Yeah,
you gotta that may be a decision you regret a
little bit. Yeah, I'm kind of with you. I was
gonna bring this up. You know, they weren't doing these
extravagant designs. It was just, you know, kind of the
simple stuff, the the you know, the cats, Paul, the
you know, the stuff that you can do with the stencil.
(10:59):
But I was definitely surprised. I mean, could you be
that excited about the basketball season that you would want
to get inked?
Speaker 3 (11:06):
No?
Speaker 4 (11:06):
I mean if I already had it planned, maybe, but
I don't think like I don't think the Holy I
don't think the Holy Spirit would just overtake me and
I would want to go suddenly get a tattoo, sporadically.
Although there are people who have impulse control issues and
we'll get a tattoo, you know, but that's not me.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
That is not me.
Speaker 4 (11:27):
Uh yeah, you know some people did though, and if
you did, god blush.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
You enjoy your tattoo. Yeah, normal life.
Speaker 1 (11:32):
You get excited, you go to a fan fest, you
get like a hen tie tattoo, or like maybe some
face painting for the kids that washes off. Yeah, but no,
that tattoo is going to be there forever. You're gonna
be remembering that fan fest in twenty twenty five, now,
it seemed like it went off as a as a success,
but there were a lot of complaints about people waiting
(11:53):
in autograph lines, waiting for up to two hours and
not getting an autograph. And Shannon I kind of side
on UK with this one, because I mean, as obviously
it would be disappointing to sit in an autograph line
for that long, and you know, just logistics not work
out and the players have to leave or whatnot. But
it's a free event. You have the entire city showing up.
(12:15):
If your first priority isn't to get in that autograph line,
you're just risking it. Like there's a chance, you're not
going to get the autograph line. So I hate that
some people missed out on that, But I also think
that some people had to have probably different expectations.
Speaker 2 (12:29):
Than than what they came in with.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
Absolutely, they did this for the fans.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
It's a free event, and they can't sit there all
day and sawn autographs. They did the best they could
with the time that they had, and then at some
point you just have to realize if there's more people
than what they have time to do the autographs for,
you just have to deal with it.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
It's free.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
You didn't lose any money, So if you're griping and
complaining about it, maybe you should have gotten in line earlier, right,
you know that's my take on it. I mean, Kentuck,
you didn't have to do this. They haven't done this
really ever. Have they a fan fast like. I don't
remember them doing a fan fest to the caliber of
what they did on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (13:05):
So I think it's really cool that they did it.
Speaker 4 (13:06):
But you know, if you didn't get an autograph, I'm
sure there will be other opportunities.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah, you know, there will be plenty more.
Speaker 1 (13:12):
But that just goes to show you how excited Big
Blue Nation is for this basketball season, and they are
every year, right. I mean, that's what makes Kentucky different.
Mark Pope talks about the expectation being a Final four
no matter if he had two guys on the roster.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
That's just what Kentucky is.
Speaker 1 (13:27):
But with the struggles of the football team and this
coming on the bye week, it does feel like a
turning of the page as we look forward to a
fun year of basketball. But we do want to talk
a little college football. We need to take a break.
But there were a lot of newsy things to come
from yesterday or over the weekend, including three football coaches
being fired, Shannon, some big buyouts being paid.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
I want to talk.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
About that with you a little bit. The Kentucky Texas
game time has been said as well. So we've got
plenty to get to today on a Monday edition of
the ksrpre Show, We'll be right back.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Hi, Welcome back, Monday edition of the show.
Speaker 1 (14:02):
Before the show, the KSR Pre Show, Kentucky football was
on a bye week this week and we kind of
just got to sit back and watch college football.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
It was nice to not have to worry about the
middle eight this weekend.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Honestly, and Shannon, if you ever want to bet on
the Cats, you can do it on Draftking Sports Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:18):
That's right.
Speaker 4 (14:19):
If you're a new customer, you sign up with promo
code KSR. You bet five dollars. If your first bet hit,
you're going to get three hundred dollars in bonus bets.
Instantly live betting, same game parlays, player props the.
Speaker 3 (14:29):
KSR parlay did not hit. My pick.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Turns out it was a terrible pick. I had Oklahoma winning.
Get Texas Oklahoma starting quarterback. He played the game, but
then only scored six points. Billy, Yeah, that was not
a good pick for a while. It was really ugly.
And hopefully the Cats have a better luck against Texas
than what Oklahoma did over the weekend. But nonetheless, Draftking
(14:54):
Sports Book again, you sign up with that promo code
KSR as a new customer, you bet five, You get
three hundred dollars in bonus bets if your first bet
hit and the crowd is yours. If you have a

(15:14):
he dkng dot co slash audio limited time offer.
Speaker 1 (15:17):
We also saw Indiana beat Oregon and maybe the biggest
win in program history. Kurt Signetti now has Indiana up
to number three in the AP poll. I mean, that's
the formula, Shannon, That's it right there. Get a guy,
a young, motivated guy from the lower level or a
lower D one school that brings over a lot of
guys from his old school. Just cancel all the tough
(15:40):
games on your schedule too. That also helps for Indiana,
but the beat they win a big one versus Oregon. Also,
we saw three football coaches fired on Sunday. Oregon State
fired Trent Bray, Uab fired Trent Dilfer after going nine
to twenty one in three years, and Penn State fires
James Franklin after they lose to Northwestern. They pay a
fifty million dollars buyout that can be paid over multiple years.
(16:05):
I think that's the big caveat here for Kentucky fans
wondering why they won't buy out Stoops. That buyout needs
to be paid over a very short period of time.
James Franklin could be paid out over years, but Shannon
fifty million dollars.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
I have look, this one's a head scratcher to me.
I know that Penn State was supposed to be a
top team this year. As a matter of fact, you know,
just a couple of weeks ago. Correct me if I'm wrong, Billy,
But I believe Penn State just a couple of weeks
ago were ranked number two in the country. They were
three and zero, looked like they were going to be
a National Football Championship contender. Yeah, and now they're three
(16:39):
and three and they don't have a head coach. But
I don't know, man, If you look at what James
Franklin has done at Penn State, what was he went
away from a national title appearance last year? Yeah, yeah, okay,
and then you look at the other records from the
previous years, they were pretty strong. Yeah, he's on a
three game losing street. But I don't think you fire
(17:01):
your coach over that, Billy.
Speaker 3 (17:02):
I mean, he could still turn it around.
Speaker 4 (17:05):
They could have gone nine to three, and you're still
firing the coach mid season.
Speaker 3 (17:09):
I think that's insane. What are your thoughts on that.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
Yeah, I mean, the guy had success at Penn State.
Speaker 1 (17:15):
And you also have to think about where Penn State
was before he took over, right, I mean in it's
such a dark place that you never knew if Penn
State could become a program that was looked like that. Again,
so he did a lot of good work, but I
think overall, like his record versus the top teams were
never good. I looked it up during the break versus
(17:35):
top ten teams. James Franklin was four and twenty six
overall in one in eighteen against the top five. So,
I mean, big games, James just could never get it
done against the Ohio States and the Michigans.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
But I'm with you.
Speaker 1 (17:49):
I mean that seems a little hasty to do it
mid season, the fifty million dollar buyout. I know, it's you,
what do you do for me lately? Or what have
you done for me lately? I guess lose two games
in a row, but man, that is a oh is
it three?
Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yeah? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
Man, that just seems like a ton of money. But
I feel like there's also a lot of internal stuff
with him. Yeah, I think you're right, there's got to
be something else to this. I don't think you just
fire a guy who has all those you know what
we just talked about, had success there at Penn State,
and then you just fire them because he goes three
and three. There had to be some internal issues going
on that we don't know about that contributed to that.
(18:26):
You know, like, if you're a coach and you're you're
a great guy behind the scenes and everybody loves you,
you get some leeway, right three and three. I think
it depends on who you are as the coach maybe
behind the scenes.
Speaker 3 (18:37):
I think that has a lot to do with it.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
I'm just I'm speculating here abilly, but I can't imagine
that if if James Franklin was just beloved by everybody
at Penn State behind the scenes and you know, in
the administration, that they would just fire the guy for
going three and three on a three game losing streak.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Right, If you're a selfish leader, maybe you're a narcissist.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
It's so much easier to cut ties with somebody when
the going gets tough.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
And now Penn State's going to be looking for new coach.
A couple other.
Speaker 1 (19:01):
Things from the College Football Weekend. I wanted to bring
up Shannon, did you see Kirby smart, Lie, you can
get away with it.
Speaker 4 (19:07):
Yeah, the kurd Kirby forget that there's cameras and we
have instant replay these days, and you can't say I
was clapping my hands went clearly on the instant replay.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
He's calling for a time out. No, I didn't know
that there were.
Speaker 4 (19:20):
I guess there's cameras on everybody at every moment of
the game.
Speaker 1 (19:23):
Oh yeah, there there is nowadays unless you're in like
a D two school. But like Sean McDonough and the
color guy going back to see him do the timeout
signal instead of clapping and going no, no, it's gonna
be a tough time making any noise clapping with your
hands like that.
Speaker 2 (19:37):
Yeah, doing the time they called him out.
Speaker 1 (19:40):
I don't know if there needs to be a fine
or any repercussion, but should be doing the no.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
I was clapping.
Speaker 4 (19:44):
Well, the fact that they didn't get like little sportsman
on conduct or delay a game or anything, no penalty
or anything.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
There's reset the clock, and they completely got away with it. Yeah,
it completely worked for Georgia. They held on to beat
Auburn in a very close game.
Speaker 3 (19:59):
Is this the new thing? Making an injury thing?
Speaker 5 (20:01):
Now?
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Coaches are going to go tom out. No no, no, no, no, no,
didn't mean time I was clapping my hands.
Speaker 2 (20:05):
That was a bad look for Kirby. I don't care
what you say about the guys.
Speaker 4 (20:09):
Like when you're at an auction, you know, and you
like reach up to scratch your neck and they go,
ohh so, no way I'm scratching my neck. Was it
trying to bit on that jar of honey or what?
Speaker 1 (20:20):
Stretch your neck on your own time. Don't do it
at the auction. And then one final story I wanted
to bring up. This is what I posted as the
show thread this morning. It started as a ten dollars bet.
An Oklahoma State fan went and stood in a section
with nobody in the bleachers, took his shirt off and
started waving it around his head. Well, people started to
join in, and then after a while, Shandon, there are
(20:42):
hundreds of Oklahoma State fans all together, shirtless, all waving
their shirt in the air. It was a It was
a great moment for humanity at the Oklahoma State game.
Speaker 7 (20:52):
Over there.
Speaker 4 (20:53):
I saw that man, he started a revolution right there,
like in real time.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Didn't he there's already an article in the New or
Times about it.
Speaker 7 (21:01):
I think it was.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
One guy, and then there was two guys, and then
there were four guys, and then in the entire like
the rest of the stadium came over there and joined them.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Which is kind of awesome.
Speaker 1 (21:10):
You know, I would have loved to have been in
college to see that one guy, you know, doing that
and then go over there to help him. Reminds me
shades of you know, the Vandy Kentucky games and those guys.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
I was about to stay there. See, I could have
started that. So I was at that game, me and
about forty three other people, and I could have had
the other forty two come over there and be shirtless
and waving our shirt.
Speaker 3 (21:30):
Above our head. Absolutely good. If only I had done that.
Speaker 1 (21:34):
Well, that looks like a lot of fun. Even though
Oklahoma State or no, the Oregon State fired their coach.
Oklahoma State already fired their coach this year in Mike Gundy.
I believe so a lot of firings in college football
this year. Maybe you think Mark Soops needs to go.
We are seeing other programs take case. But we'll see
how this story.
Speaker 4 (21:52):
If he did, if he did do you think, well, no,
not not with Barnhartby and the ad But I was
going to say, James Franklin to Kentucky, huh, James, could
do you imagine all the trash talk that we've given
changed Franklin.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Over the years.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
I can't be awkward. I mean I can't look.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
Matt used to talk trash about Calipari all the time
and then he ended up being the coach, so.
Speaker 2 (22:12):
Former Van Dy coach, kind of your guy, Shannon. So
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Adam to the list, Adam to the short list if
there were to be a change made, But I don't
know if that would work very well. A five nine
two eighth two two eight seven. We need to take
a break. We're going to talk a little Lexington Sporting.
Speaker 2 (22:27):
Club when we come back here on the KOSR pre Show.
All right, welcome back.
Speaker 1 (22:32):
It is a Monday edition of the KSR pre Show.
We are live in studio here at the City Center
in downtown Lexington. I'm Billy Rutlid along with Shannon the Dude.
We have two very special guests here in studio, two
players from the new Lexington Sporting Club team here in Lexington, Kentucky.
We have Nick Fermino a forward slash midfield here for
Lexington and also Speedy Williams Speedy. How'd you get that nickname?
(22:56):
I got to ask, where are you the fastest.
Speaker 2 (22:58):
Guy on the team? Is that how you got the
nickname speedy?
Speaker 8 (23:00):
I'm different than not the fastest guy to team.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Definitely not the fastest guy.
Speaker 8 (23:04):
I actually got a name from my dad, and my
dad nickname was speedy, So when I was growing up
everyone called me speedy junior or speeded a second, you know,
So now he's just speedy.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Well that's the perfect nickname for a soccer player. You
need a little speed out.
Speaker 8 (23:16):
I'm faster than Nick for sure.
Speaker 2 (23:18):
Oh Nick, listen to that? Is he faster than you out.
Speaker 7 (23:21):
There on radio? Yeah? On radio?
Speaker 2 (23:24):
Let him let him win on this one.
Speaker 7 (23:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:26):
Well, Nick, you're somebody that's actually played in the MLS before, right,
How does the Lexington sporting club scene and the level
of soccer that you've played over the last year compared
to what you've seen in the MLS, how.
Speaker 7 (23:37):
Does it compare. It's a good question. I would say.
Speaker 6 (23:40):
Compared to a lot of USL teams, Lexington definitely has
the most quality. That's closest toime LS. I would say
we've got a lot of guys who've had an MLS
experience on the roster. And you know, the stadium is
you know, second tent and I don't think there's a
better stadium in the USL. So as far as the
setup goes, it's as close as you can.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Get and speedy.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
This is your eleventh year in the USL, so you've
been around a little bit. I mean, how has this
last year been for you? I mean just you know,
has it been fulfilling to play for Lexington?
Speaker 2 (24:10):
How is it compared to some other years for you?
Speaker 8 (24:11):
Yeah? Most definitely. The ambition at the club is really
good to see, you know, from the players they're bringing
straight into the facilities. It's been great so far.
Speaker 1 (24:23):
So I got to go out to a game a
few weeks ago. You guys gifted me the blue UK
kit that you guys are wearing.
Speaker 7 (24:29):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (24:30):
Ye By the way, first of all the kits and
colors look great, but that blue throwback one with the
icicles on it really cool, honoring the Kentucky lineage. But
I went on like dollar fifty ber night. You can
hear the fans on dollar fifty beer Night a little
bit more than the other nights, can't you, Nick?
Speaker 7 (24:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (24:46):
I mean I think we have the best fans in
the league for sure. And you know, I don't think
dollar fifty beer Night hurts. I think it brings more
people out, so it's always fun.
Speaker 1 (24:53):
Yeah, Speedy, You've seen the fans support you this year
so far, haven't you?
Speaker 7 (24:56):
Yeah?
Speaker 8 (24:56):
Most definitely. Actually, I've been really impressed it it find
you know, as we have one one more home game
and you know, wish to see more people come out.
Speaker 1 (25:04):
Yeah, one more home game that's this Friday. You only
have two games left in the season, and you guys
are right on the cusp for a playoff berth right,
I mean eight teams make it your ranked seventh right now,
So I mean this is when the going gets tough,
right Nick?
Speaker 6 (25:16):
Yeah, I would say try to finish on with two
wins hopefully, you know, these last two games. And it's
been an up and down season. You know, at first,
we spent a lot. I think we spent three months
maybe in last place, and you know we had a
surge just recently, so hopefully we finished strong.
Speaker 2 (25:31):
Finish strong.
Speaker 1 (25:32):
Are there is there any memories that come to mind
the season for your Speedy, maybe a goal that you've
had or a win that you had. I know you've
played Loose City twice as well. That's starting to become
a nice little rivalry. Anything that comes to mind when
you think of the twenty twenty five season.
Speaker 8 (25:46):
That's a great Christian Honestly, I think I think the
ability for us to get out off the funk that
we had early in the season, you know, seeing us
a rise.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Well, whenever you have some adversion and battle back from that,
it's obviously a great move. Now, are you guys fan
of penalty kicks? Because that's one thing in soccer that
maybe divides some fans. Do you guys like penalty kicks
or is it something that you think predetermines a winner
maybe when it shouldn't.
Speaker 7 (26:12):
I mean, I'm for it.
Speaker 6 (26:13):
I wouldn't like to go to penalties, you know, I'd
probably just prefer to win in regulation.
Speaker 7 (26:17):
But I'm not against it.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
But it's it's nerve racking, right, I mean, is that
not the most nerve wracking time of the entire match
when you're doing that PK?
Speaker 7 (26:24):
Sure? I mean we got Speedy, so I trust him.
Speaker 2 (26:27):
I trust them sounds like Speedy is the good peak taker.
Speaker 8 (26:29):
Huh, I've taken a few in my time.
Speaker 7 (26:32):
Now.
Speaker 1 (26:32):
Was it always midfield for you or did you ever
play like goalie back in the day and think, hey,
maybe goalie was the move for me.
Speaker 8 (26:38):
No, I played forward when I was younger, much younger.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Yeah, what about you, Nick?
Speaker 6 (26:43):
Yeah, I probably played like striker when I was younger
and then, but mostly midfield.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
Okay, so more of the run and more of the
score and not playing defender or holding it out of
the goal.
Speaker 7 (26:53):
I would love to see Speedy and goal though, for sure.
Speaker 2 (26:56):
See you guys got a great relationship. Is this the
first time you guys have been teammates before?
Speaker 8 (27:00):
Yet?
Speaker 7 (27:00):
Before the first time?
Speaker 2 (27:02):
First time?
Speaker 1 (27:02):
And did you click off immediately or is it one
of those things where you got to see Speedy score
a goal and and play well before you gets No.
Speaker 6 (27:08):
No, I think Speedy's a Speedy leads by example. You know,
we all know he's a he's a veteran in the
locker room, and since day one, you know, he's been
he's been. He's been a leader in the sense of
the way he trains and the way he goes about
his you know, his work motivates everybody in the locker room.
(27:32):
Speedy is not going to scream and yell too much,
you know. So I have a tremendous amount of respect
for Speedy. Respect for Speedy, and you know on the
field that's easy to play with.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
You're gonna lead by example Speed, Is that right?
Speaker 1 (27:42):
I I try to Now, I'm sure Speedy is somebody
that's got a good goal celebration. I mean, Speedy, tell
me what you did the last time you scored a goal.
Speaker 8 (27:51):
Honestly, that's been a while. I've been scored.
Speaker 2 (27:53):
You know, you haven't scored. So you're the one running
towards Nick after he scored the goal.
Speaker 8 (27:59):
Most definitely I'm joining in.
Speaker 1 (28:02):
Well, since Speedy's not scoring the goal, Nick, you're doing
the celebrating then.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
Yeah, No, I want to celebrate with Speed. It's hopefully
next game everybody comes out to speedial score. We'll all
celebrate together.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Yes, Well, you've got two matches remaining in the USL
Championship regular season. Friday is the last home match. You
guys mentioned, you guys really cool venue. We got to
go out there. Shannon and I did a show from
what was it like the club area?
Speaker 8 (28:23):
Shit?
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, you guys have a bout the way.
A beautiful stadium out there. Let me ask you, like,
how has it been playing in that new shiny stadium.
We were out there for a radio show I guess
was earlier this year, Billy and uh.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
Just a beautiful facility out there.
Speaker 8 (28:40):
I mean, for me, honestly, it is one of the
best things I bought the club apart from the players.
That they brought in the stadium is amazing. I love it.
Speaker 4 (28:48):
What are you guys doing around Lexington when you're not
on the field. Do you have a special favorite place
that you like to go hang out or things that
you like to do. Maybe a favorite place to go
grab dinner around Lexington?
Speaker 7 (29:00):
I mean I'll probably go I'll probably say coffee shops.
I've been. I've been to a coffee quite a few
coffee shops.
Speaker 2 (29:06):
Coffee shops.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Okay, Well, you know, coffee will dehydrate you, so as
long as you're drinking water and someone getting some electrolytes
in before the game, you'll be fine. I just became
a coffee person, like within the last year. Now, I've
got to have it. Are you a morning coffee drinker?
It sounds like you're drinking throughout the day.
Speaker 7 (29:23):
I probably have like max three coffees a day.
Speaker 2 (29:26):
Okay, all right, three three? Fine, Speedy, you just wake
up with enthusiasm.
Speaker 8 (29:31):
I've never had coffee.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
Listen.
Speaker 4 (29:34):
Oh wow, we got to convert you to a coffee drinker.
Speaker 1 (29:38):
Bunky Rooster coffee for my man's speedy here. Well, guys,
thank you for coming in and joining the show. Here.
One thing I do want to ask about this this
game on Friday. You know what, what makes a difference
when the like when the fans are there. Does it
make that big of a difference for you guys, like
mentally like to know that you've got to pack towels
you can hear the chance because that's that's one of
(29:59):
the cool things about soccer, is like the chanting that
goes on during the game. I wish college football fans
would do more of it. It seems like the environment
at Lexington Sporting clubs field is always great. I mean,
does that will you guys to play better when you
have a big fan or a big crowd like that?
Speaker 7 (30:13):
Absolutely?
Speaker 6 (30:15):
Like Speedy said, I've been impressed with the fans as well.
You know, they're a loud all game, and you know,
I feel like the opposing teams they feel that when
they when they comes home.
Speaker 1 (30:21):
You feel like the city's embracing the team in the
first season as well.
Speaker 7 (30:25):
Absolutely, yeah, Speedy, what do you think?
Speaker 8 (30:26):
Yes, definitely, most definitely. As I said before, like I've
been really impressive to find you know, yeah, you wish more?
Come on on Friday.
Speaker 1 (30:34):
Well, I'm excited to go to another game. I'm excited
to see Speedy score a goal. I mean, after I
said that he's doing all these celebrations prematurely and he
hadn't scored in a couple of years. We got to
get Speedy to score. I mean one of you guys,
I mean, are one of you guys at the corner kick?
Is it one of you guys taking a free kick?
Or is that somebody else on the team doing most
of those?
Speaker 6 (30:52):
Okay, well let Speedy take that.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Just let them, you know, let them break the seal
a little bit.
Speaker 1 (31:01):
Sir, Speedy and Nick here are two players on the
Lexington Sporting Club team. Guys, I appreciate your time and
thank you for joining me this morning.
Speaker 7 (31:09):
Thanks for having us, Thanks for having us, and.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Best of luck and your game on Friday.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
One of two matches remaining in the season for Lexington
Sporting Club battling for a playoff spot. So you're gonna
need the fans support and appreciate you guys joining us
on the show.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
We're gonna take an early break here.
Speaker 1 (31:23):
When we come back, we'll wrap up this edition of
the Ksrpre Show here on a Monday.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Big thanks to the guys here at Lexington Sporting Club.
We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (31:31):
Welcome back. It is the KOSR Pre Show. That was
our soccer segment for the month. What do you mean
for the year, maybe the year. I do appreciate those
guys coming in and joining us in studio. Speedy was
saying he's never had coffee in his life. Mid segment,
I spilled my coffee onto my notebook. Shannon, no'be even noticed. Wow,
nobody even noticed. Clean that thing up, sor right. It
(31:52):
made it look like it never happened. So thanks to
those guys for joining us. This segment is brought to

The comedian Dan Soder came to the Kentucky Center over
the weekend. Shannon and he brought his Golden Retriever with him.
Speaker 4 (33:06):
Mm hmmm, it's becoming a trend now, I know you're
blaming herb Street.
Speaker 1 (33:10):
In fact, he is taking his Golden Retriever on every
stop of his tour, Shannon. So this is I think
people are starting to cash in on bring my dog
along with me on tour.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Well, this is a win for Golden retrievers really, I mean,
because now they're becoming I think, you know, the most
popular type of dog. So if you're a Golden Retriever
and you want to get adopted, you see Kirk kurb
Street taking his dog everywhere and Peter he's a good boy, so.
Speaker 3 (33:36):
Everybody else wants their own Peter. Right.
Speaker 4 (33:39):
Yeah, Now I think there's going to be a trend
in people adopting Golden Retrievers.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
And now you see other people doing the same thing.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
So are you telling me if I brought my little
dog to a KSR remote on a Friday, Shannon, then
I wouldn't get booed from my terrible opinions that.
Speaker 2 (33:55):
I like to have.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
No, you would get booed. You know, you always get
booed everywhere you go. Bringing the dog wouldn't change anything.
They would probably even boo your dog. Honestly, I would
boo your dog. But dog beginning he's guilty by association. Okay,
actually I would have sympathy. The poor dog has to
have you as the owner. But no, I think that
maybe you should bring your dog out.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
I wouldn't get mad at it.
Speaker 7 (34:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
The thing is, my dog's like gonna yap at people,
you know, yellow.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
Yeah, I could be able to.
Speaker 4 (34:23):
Yeah, Matt would hate that, Like you'd have to make
sure you remove the dog from the premise when when
when Matt shows up?
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Yeah, I mean doing a show at my house would
be tough because my dog would not stop barking the
entire time.
Speaker 2 (34:35):
But I wouldn't put a shot collar on my dog.
Speaker 3 (34:38):
No, I think that's inhumane.
Speaker 4 (34:40):
Now, according you're referring to the YouTube, I'm sorry the
Twitter post by who was it?
Speaker 8 (34:46):
The post?
Speaker 1 (34:48):
It was a streamer popular streamer that Matt brought up
on Friday at Wild Eggs. Uh getting a lot of
backlash for having a shot collar on his dog. I
believe my parents use a shot collar, but on one
of those things. Those are my college days.
Speaker 6 (35:04):
Man.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
We can get into that next.
Speaker 1 (35:05):
But you know, they do a thing where it's like
a perimeter, so like the dog doesn't get shocked until
it goes like outside the yard into the neighbor's yard. Okay,
some some seem to think that when you have a
shot call where you can press a button and it
just shocks the dog, I mean, obviously that's gonna be
a little bit more inhumane. And then there's others that
people they bark and then obviously they get Let's let's say.
Speaker 4 (35:26):
This scenario plays out. You know, you got that remote control.
I don't know about you, billy, but sometimes when I
get on the couch, I accidentally sit on the remote
control and I'm pushing all.
Speaker 3 (35:35):
The buttons with my butt.
Speaker 2 (35:36):
I don't what.
Speaker 4 (35:37):
I imagine you got on the couch and that remote
control that shocks your dog is hidden in the couch
cushions and you sit on it, and the dogs is
over just getting shocked non stop while you sit there
and try to find the remote that.
Speaker 3 (35:48):
You're sitting out.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Oh, I feel super guilty then exactly.
Speaker 1 (35:51):
I mean he's yelping and just trying to trying to
live life, and it's because my big dumper is on
the remote speaking a big dumper. The playoffs are going right,
that's right right now in the baseball In baseball, the
Mariners beat the Blue Jays three to one yesterday.
Speaker 2 (36:08):
I watched it, so today it'll.
Speaker 1 (36:09):
Be Mariners blue Jays again, and then Dodgers Brewers. How
are the Baseball playoffs shaking?
Speaker 4 (36:13):
Well? The Blue Jays game last night, first pitch was
a home run and I was like, all right, well,
this is going to be bad for the Mariners, but
that was the last run they gave up and Seattle
ends up winning it.
Speaker 3 (36:23):
I'm really pulling for Seattle Milwaukee.
Speaker 4 (36:25):
I tried to speak this into existence last week when
I said there's two teams left that have never won
a World Series. I would love for those two teams
to play each other. And I was asking you, when
was the last time that happened. We found out it
was nineteen eighty. So it hasn't happened in my lifetime.
It hasn't happened in your lifetime. Where two teams meet
in the World Series who have never won a championship.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
That'd be very cool. Yeah, that'd be very cool for
the fan bases involved in Major League Baseball and then
just the people wearing the shirts for the Big Dumper
does it say dump on me shirts or something like that.
Speaker 3 (36:55):
And the greatest nickname in sports.
Speaker 1 (36:57):
It is it is really good. So I think I'm
rooting for the Maritors for that reason. A five nine
two two eighty seven. Let's take a call. Who's up first?
Speaker 3 (37:04):
Let's go to Mark Anthony?
Speaker 2 (37:05):
Hey, Mark, how are you age?
Speaker 5 (37:07):
I'm good. Hey, Billy ain't spoke to you in a
long time. Bud, He's good to hear from you. But
but fellas, I have a question.
Speaker 1 (37:13):
Did either of.
Speaker 5 (37:14):
Y'all try to watch Big Blue Madness on Saturday night
and get disappointed?
Speaker 1 (37:20):
Well, go ahead, Billy, I was gonna say. I did
not see the TV broadcast of it, did you, Shannon?
Speaker 3 (37:26):
No, I didn't.
Speaker 4 (37:27):
I was actually playing a show with my band. But
I went back and watched the highlights of it, So
I didn't watch it live.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
What do you think of it? Mark?
Speaker 5 (37:33):
Okay? Uh, I didn't get to see it because I
went to uh an sec plus as instructed, and all
I got was a big UK logo on the silver background.
And I watched that for a little bit, and I said,
went back to watching football. So I was a little upset.
And speaking of television and being a little upset, Shannon. Uh,
if I'm not mistaken, you like me have YouTube TV?
(37:56):
Do you not?
Speaker 7 (37:57):
Uh?
Speaker 3 (37:57):
I did at one point. I do not currently, but
I have had I have it.
Speaker 7 (38:00):
Mark.
Speaker 5 (38:01):
Yeah, Well okay, Well do you know, Billy, it's going
up ten dollars a month in January again.
Speaker 7 (38:06):
And what is it out now?
Speaker 5 (38:07):
I got it's seventy two ninety nine to eighty two,
and uh, you know, I've been enjoying it. It's great.
I share it with my two daughters and everything. But
I don't know, but I'm going to be looking for
an alternative. And of course I have the media box
there you go. Not nice, but it's it's a little more.
It's a little harder to navigate around, and MS Boo
(38:31):
would not like that. So I'm gonna have to make
a move though. Boys, it's just too much for me. Well, okay,
enough of my complaining and good talk to good talk you.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
Yeah, thanks for calling the pre show, Mark Anthony. We
don't get a Mark Anthony calling the pre show very often.
I did have YouTube TV, Billy, and I think I was, like,
you know, early in the game of YouTube TV, so early,
he said, up with seventy two dollars. Now you flip
those numbers around, that's how much I was paying a
month for it twenty seven when it first started, like
nobody had it.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
Nobody, you know, wasn't popular.
Speaker 4 (39:00):
So the price to have YouTube TV then was like
twenty seven dollars and now it just keeps going up
like every other cable. Well they know that they've got us,
you know, well they don't have us though there's alternatives
out there.
Speaker 1 (39:10):
I'm telling you, well, even he has the alternative and
he's still paying for YouTube TV. So I mean, how
effective is it? So I have it too. It's just
only on one TV in my house. YouTube TV you
can watch it anywhere, So that's part of it. Tell
me about Right Way before.

I love that arch Manning gets a win for Texas.
We got the kickoff time for Kentucky Texas. It'll be
a seven pm kick at Kroger Field. Texas is a
twelve and a half point favorite and Kentucky has lost
seven straight SEC games.
Speaker 2 (40:27):
Shannon, how are you feeling here on a Monday of
game week before Texas?
Speaker 4 (40:32):
Not great, honestly, But you know what, and again it's
the whole thing coming off of a bye week. Here
we are with another bye week. Mark Stoops has not
done well after a bye week, and you know what, though,
I feel like they're going to get one game that's
going to really surprise us. I feel like they're going
to get one.
Speaker 3 (40:49):
Is this the one?
Speaker 4 (40:50):
I don't know that I'm willing to call this the one,
But if they did somehow beat Texas, I wouldn't be surprised.
But the way you beat texasys you can't let them
score twenty points Otherwise our offense can't keep up, or
if you do, you have to force turnovers and score
off turnovers.
Speaker 3 (41:05):
I think that's the only way that you beat a
team like Texas.
Speaker 1 (41:08):
Yeah, could be a big Brad White game against arch Manning.
Hopefully he can scheme something up. They have not looked good.
I mean they have not looked like the world beer.
I think they were what are they number one in
the poll before the season started. So Kentucky's got a
chance because that's why they play the game. But it'll
be a seven pm kick for that.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
You can bet that twelve and a half on DraftKings.
By the way, promo CODEKSR bet five dollars your first
bet hits. You're gonna get three hundred dollars in bonus bets.
That's for new customers. Promo CODEKSR only on DraftKings.
Speaker 1 (41:34):
