Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
It is the KSR pre Show Tuesday, October fourteenth. I'm
Shannon the Dude to be enjoined by Billy Rutledge over
in Lexington. You can give us a call the Clark's
Puppet Shop phone line at eight five to nine two
eight oh twenty two eighty seven. You can send us
a Texas fible two two sixty five six six five six.
Ksrpre Show was always being brought to you by Italics,
(00:23):
fine Italian donning in Lexington, and I stayed up late
last night Billy watched the the NLCS, the Dodgers and
the Brewers. That was I don't know if you watched
any of that game or not last night, Billy, but
it was like all the drama that you would want
in playoff baseball. You had Blake Snell out there just dealing.
(00:43):
He gave up one hit through eight innings. You had
that crazy double play that happened in the fourth inning.
Did you see that play?
Speaker 1 (00:51):
That was the play? I saw, dude. That was wild.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
So let's just jump into it because I didn't, Okay,
I played baseball my entire life. I didn't know that
the rule if a ball goes off your glove and
hits the wall, and do you catch it before the
ball hits the ground.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
I thought that was an out.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Well, apparently so did the Dodgers, because nobody on the
basis knew which way to run. It was complete chaos.
Turns out it was ruled not a catch. Centerfielder throws
it all the way into home plate, which causes a
force out.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Force out.
Speaker 2 (01:23):
Yeah, and then the catcher just runs the ball like
a little leaguer down to third base and touches the
base and it was a double play.
Speaker 1 (01:30):
Two force outs. One of the craziest plays I've ever.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
Seen in a baseball game, especially playoff baseball. And you
had that, and then bottom of the ninth they take
Blake Snell out.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
They decided to go with the bullpen. Bruers end up
scoring a run.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
They had bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth
with two outs, guy gets up for the Bruers ends
up striking out.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
So a lot of drama.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
If you missed it last night, you think baseball is boring,
you should have been watching that game, because, Billy, that
was awesome last night.
Speaker 1 (01:58):
The drama of playoff baseball is unmatched. At times, it
can be a little boring during the regular season, but
when every pitch matters, there is really nothing like it.
And I also love the fact that baseball can can
go into like a Little league sort of fashion every
now and then, right like there is always something that
happens in a baseball game that maybe you've never seen before,
and that was certainly one of them last night. It
(02:19):
was just bizarre because it was a force out at
home and the guy didn't even try it for the tag,
and it's like, what's going on at this point?
Speaker 2 (02:25):
So even the commentator is confused, He's like, oh, I
throw the play is like no, wait, it's a force out.
Speaker 1 (02:30):
Like nobody knew. What was was complete chaos. You had
like half the basis.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Loach, so you had half the guys running one way
on the basis, then the other guy's running the other way.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
Nobody knew what was going on. Yeah, and it seems
like the Evil Empire and the Dodgers might be making
the World Series once again, but the Mariners up I
believe two zero at this point in their al series.
So a little hope there for a team to win
a World Series that hasn't before. But been watching a
little bit of that trying to enjoy the weather too, Shannon.
Before you know it, it's going to be freezing cold.
(03:00):
We're gonna spring. What does it fall back? And then
it's going to be dark at four four point thirty,
So try to enjoy your fall weatherway, you got it.
It has been perfect. I mean I know that.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
Again we've talked about your situation at your house where
your fiance controls the thermostat, sure, but I haven't. I
got this brand new thermostat from this you know, our
forends a KLM Heating and cooling. Shout out to them
for coming out and replacing my AC unit. Haven'tny had
to use it. It's been like seventy two degrees every day,
So I'm going, okay, well, nice so that I got
(03:30):
this brand new, fancy ACU in it, but I haven't
even really put it to use yet because the weather's
just been absolutely perfect.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Yeah, enjoy it, enjoy the weather while it's here. I
got a dishwasher installed the other day, Shannon. That thing
works flawlessly. Oh, a dishwasher. Don't even have to do
a presher the dishes. You just throw that thing in there. Big,
big day when you get the dishwasher.
Speaker 2 (03:49):
Do you know how do you know that there's actually
a proper way to load a dishwasher?
Speaker 1 (03:53):
I don't see. I don't know how.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
I know that there's like a way you're supposed to
do it, but I don't really know, like what what
the order is.
Speaker 1 (03:59):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
All these like little prongs sticking up, and I just
start throwing dishes in there. I don't I'm sure I'll
load it the wrong way, but it still gets done,
so I don't really care.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
It doesn't It doesn't seem too complicated. But now that
you say that, I've probably been doing it wrong for
years at this point. But if you don't go out
and eat, I mean, you got dishes you gotta do, right.
I mean, so you were.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Hand washing dishes old school, before you get the dishwashing.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Our dishwasher was so bad, we'd like you'd had to
rinse it off really before you put it in the dishwasher. Now,
these heavy duty things, they could have the food still
on the plate. You just throw it in the dishwash.
Oh no, no, no, you can't do that.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
Oh you can't just have a whole plate full of
food and throw it in.
Speaker 1 (04:36):
The dish throw it in the dishwasher. You can scrape
off the mid foul.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
You have absolutely got to scrape all the stuff off first,
at least some of it. You can't just throw like
a plate of noodles in the dishwasher and just let
it do its thing.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Well, maybe that's what I'm doing wrong? Kind of savage?
Are you you're heathen?
Speaker 2 (04:53):
No?
Speaker 1 (04:53):
No, obviously you rinse it off first a little bit,
and then you put it on. But these do dishwashers
are powerful. So that's what's going on. Popular exciting stuff
at the rutled chounse.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
It sounds like it, Yeah, riven and stuff. Maybe you
can clean up that garage while you're at it.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
Nah, No, that's a pipe dream.
Speaker 2 (05:08):
So we got Kentucky in Texas coming up on Saturday.
There's there's all kinds of talk about Mark Stoops. Here's
the thing. When when there's more talk and people want
to talk more about stoops buyout than they do the
upcoming game, that's when you know you're in trouble. Mark
Stoops's name was mentioned in a report for a possible
(05:29):
replacement for the head coach at Virginia Tech to take
over that job.
Speaker 1 (05:34):
I don't know, there's just there's.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Just a lot of different rumors and stuff that are
swirling out there. But the Kentucky Football Tennessee matchup has
been named for seven forty five, So seven forty five
is the kickoff for that time. We got Tom Hart
who's going to be on the call, so hopefully, you know,
he can make us feel a little bit better about
that butt.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Kicking that's probably going to happen.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Okay, yeah, but yeah, Stoops and the buyout has continued
to be the big news. It's not going to happen
as much as we want to talk about it and
talk about you know, if Barnhart's going to pull the
plug and make a move, it's going to happen at
the end of the year.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
It's going to happen after the Loisill game. It's not
going to happen before then.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
I don't think Billy, regardless of what the situation is,
Stoops can lose every game between now going up to
the Tennessee Tech game, I think he would still have
his job. Now if you lost the Tennessee Tech game, Okay, yeah,
I think that point you you got to make a
decision and make a change. But I think that you
know Barnhart's going to ride this thing out regardless of
(06:33):
what fans think about it.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Then let the chips fall where they may well. Let
me talk about buyouts for a second before we, I
guess touch on the Virginia Tech rumor for Mark Stoops,
because there's a wrinkle in the James Franklin fifty million
dollars buyout that I don't know if you've seen yet,
Shannon James Franklin is required to look for another job
in coaching or broadcasting. According to his Penn State contract,
(06:55):
Penn State is only required to pay the difference of
his new salary. So if he's going to be getting
paid eight million dollars a year through twenty thirty one,
depending on what he's paid in his new job, Penn
State only has to pay the difference of what he's
owed to See that that's a better deal now that
you know much better.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Yeah, you look into the details of some of these buyouts,
that makes a little more sense Kentucky's situation. On the
other hand, the money's due up front, right, there's no
situation to where he has to go out and find
another job or you know that you paid the difference
there's none of that from what I understand. It's just
there's your thirty seven million dollar buyout. It's due, Now
(07:33):
give me my money.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Yeah. In Kentucky was had two of those contracts with
John Caliperry and Mark Stoops. That Mitch Barnhart probably deserves
some criticism for. You know that Mitch Barnhart gives saves
once again. If Mark Stops were to leave for another job,
and we get this report that Mark Stoops is one
of eight names for this Virginia tech job reported by
(07:54):
Amber Marie of twenty four to seven Sports, not to
mention James Franklin, Shane ber, Dan Mullen, Manny Diaz also
being on that list, including John Summerl. So he might
be on the list, Shannon, But is he a high
candidate for it. No, I can't imagine it being a
higher not.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
No, you start thinking about all those other names and
the success that they've had, I think Mark Stoops would
probably be far down on the list.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
And that's the other thing.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
I mean, you're in the situation where you know, not
that long ago Stoops was flirting with other teams out there,
because those teams were pursuing Mark Stoops I don't know
how many teams would be pursuing Mark Stoops right now.
I mean, his his stock has called off significantly since
we were talking about Texas A and M.
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Yeah, no doubt. I mean, look at the way that
Amber writes about Mark Stoops even though he was mentioned.
You know, his tenure at Kentucky has been mirrored in controversy,
from questionable decision making to a revolving door of offensive
coordinators to a public feud with former men's basketball coach
John Caliperry. He's been on the receiving end of a
lot of criticism. Even former players are beginning to call
(08:59):
for a head coaching change. So does he bring consistency? Yes?
Did he make all those Bowl games in a row? Yes?
You know, would it work again with Mark Stoops in
the nil era? I'm just not sure, you know. Possibly, yeah,
But is he motivate enough to do that? That's a
word we've used once or twice. James Franklin fifty million
dollar buyout ranks tenth in the country when it comes
(09:20):
to college football. Shannon tenth at fifty million dollars. Can
I give you a couple of the top ones, because
the numbers blew me away.
Speaker 2 (09:28):
I think I saw something about Kirby Smart was like
one hundred million as the one.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Hundred and five million dollars for Kirby Smart clearing away
the number one in college football. I think Jimbo got
paid like around eighty million to go away from Texas
A and M, but a one hundred and five million
for Kirby Smart, rounding up the top five. Ryan Day
at seventy million, Kaalin de Boor at sixty, Steve Sarkisian
at sixty, and Dabbo at sixty. And as long as
(09:52):
ads continue to do this, why would you not?
Speaker 2 (09:54):
You know, like all the ads need to come to
an understanding of Look, none of us are what to
do with this anymore. We're not going to do the
buyout thing, or if we're going to do it buy out,
it's got to be something that's not absurd one hundred
million dollar buyout. You know, because you get in these
situations where you hire a coach, you realize it's not
going to work here, and now you've got to figure
out where all those Bundy's coming from. It's an absolute
(10:16):
disaster situation for a lot of programs.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
But it's a double edged sword right, because if somebody
wants to hire Mark Stoops, they would have to pay
that buyout to get him away from Kentucky. So it's
it's really protection on your end if you have a
good coach and then leaves you in a in a
dead spot, locked into a contract when they're not playing well.
And I think that's why we've given so much credence
to the small details of the contract, including when that
(10:41):
money is due. But you know, businesses normal, get back
to work for the Kentucky football team that Mark Stoops
had his call in show last night, spoke to the media.
You know, it's good to hear that the health of
DJ Waller and Seth McGowan is good. But at the
same time, Texas and Tennessee are two formidable foes and
it's and it's weird to think about. Texas is the
more winnable game, it feels like for the rest of
(11:03):
the season, and.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Mark Stoops has a way of just doing just enough
to keep us hanging on. Right, So I could see
a scenario where Kentucky comes out and gets one of
these wins. It could be against Texas on Saturday, And
you know, Manning hasn't been exactly setting the world on
fire like a lot of people thought that he would.
Speaker 1 (11:23):
So, you know, let's say.
Speaker 2 (11:24):
Kentucky comes out and pulls off a win over Texas
and somehow gets to that five win mark. That's where
you got to go, well, we didn't get to a
Bowl game. It is an improvement from last year, and
you're kind of stuck in this middle ground. And I
think that's worst case scenario because you want to be
either you want to be sure one way or another. Right.
(11:46):
You want him to come out and have either a
really great season, which we would hope for, but I
don't think that's going to happen, or end up winning
three games that way. It's clear, it's clear what we
need to do. You win five, a lot of fans
are still going to want Stoops gone. But I think
it's a lot harder to make that move if you
finish five and seven. Then if you were to just go,
(12:08):
you know, four and eight, three and nine, whatever it
may be, then I think it's obvious. But five and
seven is right on that line where I could see
Kentucky getting to that point and then you go, well,
let's run it back for another year.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
Now I'm I'm I'm of the sentiment that they keep
him if he gets to five and seven. Probably a
lot of it has to do with how Cutter looks
in the final few games. Is he progressing, does he
look like the future? And also a reminder that there
are a lot of jobs open, and you know, if
Kentucky goes looking for a new coach, it may not
be the best pickings after you go through a couple
of these bigger jobs. So you know, isn't a great opportunity.
(12:43):
Is it one of the best jobs in college sports
because you can win seven games and make nine million
dollars a year? Absolutely, But somebody also has a little
bit of insanity in him to go to a job
where you know, they get less revenue share money than
the other schools in their conference, right when basketball is
the priority over football. That's the reality of the job.
But you know, John summer All is a big name
(13:03):
in that and if you want him, you better come
quick because that guy's destined for a bigger job soon.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
You hear some people say, well, Kentucky's not that great
of a job. Again, we were just talking about this
a couple of weeks ago. There's a guy on the
one of those podcasts that says Kentucky is the best job,
and I completely agree with him.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Kentucky is the best job.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
I think in the SEC, you come in, win six
or seven games, everybody's happy, and you get paid pretty well.
Look what Mark Stoops made to be able to get
to coach here. You come in, you get to a
Bowl game, We're good. You do want to win ten
games every year? You know, you got guys like James
Franklin getting fired for going three and three. So I
(13:42):
mean the bar is a lot higher at other schools,
especially in the SEC, and I think that there's a
lot of coaches that would be interested in that Kentucky job.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
Isn't that crazy? Like Penn State in a dogfight to
go to the national championship, maybe one play away from
that actually happening, and then in a span of three
games you're let go and fired as the coach. It's
just it's unbelievable the business of college sports. And I
think we all get it to a business, but maybe
at times we forget, you know, how fickle it can be.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
I wonder if like a situation like Kirby Smart, who
has one hundred million dollar buy out. Let's say Georgia
just went on a big losing streak. Probably not gonna happen.
Let's say they lost three in a row. Okay, Georgia
is gonna fire Kirby Smart pa him one hundred million
dollars ago because he had a three game losing streak.
Speaker 1 (14:24):
I mean, that's what happened with James Franklin.
Speaker 2 (14:26):
Yeah, he lost to some bad teams, but you think
the guy forgot how to coach. And these guys just say, okay,
give me my fifty million dollars, I'll go away.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
But James has got something that Mark Stoops has got,
and that's like, over time, just cannot win these bigger games.
I mean, I think he was one in sixteen against
top five teams. I mean, is it a little bit
like Stoops who has lost eight straight consecutive SEC games
and can't win games at home. I mean those are
things that gnaw at a fan base. And then when
you lose back to back games when you were a
(14:57):
twenty point favorite, it's like you're throwing your hands up
in the era. You're not firing them on the tarmac. Maybe,
but things have to change. So we're in a weird spot.
You know, middle of the year. You obviously don't want
to fire your coach and tear things down immediately, but
things get much worse, maybe Mitch Barnhart has is forced
to make a decision like that.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
All right, eight five, nine, two, eight, twenty two eighty seven,
we'll take your calls. Coming up after the break, we'll
talk some basketball. The preseason rankings came out. We'll let
you know where the Cats are on the ap pole.
The preseason Player of the Year came out. If you
didn't see that, spoiler alert, that's a Kentucky Wildcat too.
We'll talk about that and a whole lot more coming
up or on the KSR pre Show.
Speaker 1 (15:36):
It is the KSR pre Show.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
Shannon the Dude Billy Relige video killed the radio star Billy.
This was the first ever music video played on MTV
way back in the day. Did you grow up with
MTV like watching it, watching TRL and music videos or
was that kind.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
Of I was on the back end of it. Ok.
I got my first TV in my room, and I
was watching music videos on MTV and VHS or all
those kind of stations. But I wasn't like watching TRL religiously.
Speaker 2 (16:04):
Yeah, well it was just announced that Paramount Global, who
owns like all the MTV stations. I didn't even realize
they still had MTV I guess spinoff channels that still
played music videos.
Speaker 1 (16:16):
But there was like an MTV eighties.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
An MTV nineties channel, Club MTV, and MTV Live channel
that apparently still played music video.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Now where do you find them?
Speaker 2 (16:26):
I don't know, but apparently they were still out there
and they exist, And they said they just announced that
they are going to basically end all those stations, which
again I don't even know if people realized they existed
to begin with. So was that really news if you're
ending stations that nobody even knew existed to begin with.
But they said about December thirty, first, you will not
(16:46):
be able to watch any music television that has I guess,
any music videos, like any kind of like the old
reruns of TRL or Unplugged or anything like that. But
I mean, what did they even run on MTV. I
don't know the last time I even watched MTV of
these three runs, it is it ridiculousness.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
They still play on ridiculousness like in the Middle of
the Night, right and teen Mom two, Teen Mom Too,
Catfish yeah, I mean just saw all the same shows
that they've been running. It feels like since twenty twelve.
I just found the twenty four to seven channels on
the media box seven, so I've been watching twenty four
seven sopranos. Oh no commercials. You just throw those one
of those twenty four to seven channels on and it
just keeps on going. But music videos used to have
(17:25):
me in a choke hold. I used to wait for
music videos to come out, I mean loved watching them.
Now I can't remember the last time I watched a
music video. It's just just not an emphasis on to anything.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Just stop watching music videos and just stop. Like, I
don't understand how they went from being like this huge
station that everybody watched to now we're just gonna go
to reality TV and it's basically a reality TV station now.
Speaker 1 (17:47):
And then you can't.
Speaker 2 (17:48):
Convince me that if there was a station that they
that was on, you know, there was easy to find
that played music videos, that people wouldn't still watch it.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
I think they would. I know that YouTube exists, Yeah,
I can look it up anywhere at any time.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Sure, But then you got to sit through a thirty
second commercial, like there's nothing more frustrating than watching music
videos on YouTube unless you want to pay for the premium.
You got to sit there and every time you watch
a video, there's another commercial and you got to sit
through that, and you got to hit skip and you
get it's it's so frustrating. But MTV somehow went from this,
(18:22):
you know, very popular music station too.
Speaker 1 (18:25):
I don't know, I don't know one person that watches that.
Speaker 2 (18:27):
I'm wondering, like, who actually still watches MTV in twenty
twenty five?
Speaker 1 (18:31):
Is Robin Big still on? I mean, that was a
big show in my childhood. I think that was on MTV.
But it's it's sad to see it go. I feel
like I'm getting old here Shan.
Speaker 2 (18:39):
Well you are you are? I dazzle make you ancient.
I dabbled a little bit on DraftKings last night. Nearly
had a big hit. Nearly had a big hit. I
picked no score in the fourth inning. I don't know why,
you know, at.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Least specific, Yeah, you're just feeling the fourth yep.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
And that was when that crazy play happened too, So
we got through that nobody scored. It is like, all right,
that's good. I had Freddy Freeman to get two hits.
He got two hits, and I just and I had
the Brewers to win. All I needed to win ninety
five dollars on a five dollar bet was the Brewers
to win. So you can imagine how excited I was
getting when it was bases loaded at bottom of the
ninth and it was two to one. All we needed
(19:20):
was a walk, I mean, or you know, just something
to take it into extra innings. Guy strikes out, I'll
lose the bet. That's usually the story of my life
on DraftKings. But hey, maybe you have better luck than
I do. Get on there and use the promo code KSR.
Bet five dollars, get three hundred dollars in bonus bets instantly.
If your first bet hits. You can do live betting.
You can do the parlays like I was doing. Same
game Parlay's player props. You can go deep into the
(19:41):
weeds on DraftKings. It's a lot of fun, especially when
you're watching a game you don't really care who wins.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
You throw a little money on it.
Speaker 2 (19:47):
All of a sudden you're like me, you're, all of
a sudden a big Brewers fan. You could do it
with DraftKings promo code KSR. The crown is yours. If
you have a gambling problem, call one ine hundred Gambler

Speaker 1 (19:57):

Speaker 1 (20:10):
I can just see you standing up in the living room,
a part of the brew crew at that point, I mean,
base is low down. You're a biggest fan of anybody.
Speaker 2 (20:17):
And I know I'm trying to speak into existence the
two teams to make it to the play the World Series.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Who have never won. Yeah, Brewers and Mariners.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
That's right, and Mariners are well on their way. We
just needed the Brewers to do their part. Hey, five nine,
twenty two eighty seven. Let's go to Scott. What's up, Scott? Goodbye, guys.
Got a quick question, what do you think the biggest
difference between Stoops five years ago in Stoops today? Well,
(20:44):
I think nil has a lot to do with it.
I think, you know, the revolving door of offensive coordinators
has been a big problem too, you know Liam Cohen
with Will Lovis. I mean that that was that worked
out well, right, But then Liam one two point zero,
thankt for the call.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
We appreciate.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
It wasn't quite as good as his first year here.
So I don't know that's a good question, like what
is the real difference between Mark Stuops getting ten wins
and Mark Stuops struggling to get the three or four Billy.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
Well, it was the big blue wall. I mean, I
think that's the culture of the football program was based
on the trenches and being able to run the ball.
That was Stoope's ball. And I think when nil became
a thing, and it was something that Stoops and Barnhart
were hesitant to embrace at first, and when they did,
they go out and pay a bunch of money to
guys like barry On Brown and it becomes maybe a
(21:39):
little bit of a wide receiver culture in the locker room.
And I think that even the small things like that
can have a huge impact on the guy's resilience. And
you know how they talk to each other in the
locker room. And this was before five years ago, was
you know, before the pony up comments. It was before
the public feud with John Calipari. This is a you know,
a football school. We can pete for bowl games and championships.
(22:01):
I mean, these are all little things that add up,
especially when you're you sign a big contract and you're
asking for more money than you lose to Vandy in
your next game. Like, these are things that the fan
base for members, and so do recruits. So I don't
think there's one thing that you can point to, but
including the things that Shannon said along with I think
the offensive line culture getting away from that, I think
(22:22):
we're the biggest thing.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Hey five, nine, two, eight, twenty two, eighty seven will
take more of your phone calls. Coming up next, it
is the KSR pre Show. It is the KSR pre Show.
This is show number nine hundred and ninety nine. Billy
Tomorrow are a one thousandth show. Wow, Now have you
thought about what you're getting me for show one thousand?
Speaker 1 (22:42):
Like I'm getting you Yeah.
Speaker 2 (22:43):
I mean I've been carrying this show for nine ninety
nine episodes. I thought that maybe you would, you know,
maybe get me, uh, I don't know, maybe take me
out to a nice dinner, Maybe get me a gift
certificate to the stretch lab or something like that. You
know maybe, uh, I don't know. You have that chiropractor
(23:05):
endorsement that you do, right, maybe hooked me up with them.
Speaker 1 (23:07):
Chiropractor and a stretch lab endorsement. So I mean you,
if you've got a bad back, I can help you
out with that. Maybe I'll get you like a hot
Cheetos mountain dew or a galactic hooke in honor of
the Case are Preacher right? Yeah, that's right.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
We've done a lot of crazy things over the last
nine hundred and ninety nine shows, including you're throwing turkeys
out of a helicopter.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Oh my gosh. If you don't think that's gonna make
my top moments of the Case our pre show all
the time. You are sadly mistaken, but looking forward to
celebrating with you tomorrow. One thousand episodes and four years
on the air. This week, actually.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
You asked me to put together a list of three
things that were my favorite pre show moments.
Speaker 1 (23:45):
Yeah, and tell me and tell the people what you
told me I have. I don't think I've got three.
You're like three? You mean like maybe two? I could
maybe come up with two. Okay, Well, I mean they
our thing is sort of.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
I remember the time that we to break the Guinness
Book of World Records by eating the most salteenes.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Yeah, that was like fleet and utter.
Speaker 2 (24:08):
Failure, which was horrible radio. By the way, Like nobody
can see you eating the salteines. All they can hear
is you crunching.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
That was it. Do you remember the world record I
attempted at the same day, No, what was it? As
many posted notes I could put on my face and
under a minute, where were we thinking? Like why did
we think that was a good radio We're putting on
a show, Shannon, I mean putting on a show for
Pep and Motes. Yeah. Yeah, we got a crowd.
Speaker 2 (24:29):
But there's the thing though, You got a crowd of
one hundred people, but you got thousands of people listening
who are like, man, this is awful because I can't
even see Billy trying to stick post it notes to
his forehead.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
Well, look, you know we work through those those things.
I mean, you learn a lot and doing a radio
show over four years, so excited to look back. You know,
you throw things out of a helicopter. Maybe it's not
the best radio sometimes either because you don't have service.
That was the app depending on where you're driving. It
was not the absolute work.
Speaker 2 (24:55):
I hate I hate it when you did that because
you would get up in that helicopter and inevitably you
were going to lose service and obviously just be sitting
here in the studio going, well, I guess it's just.
Speaker 1 (25:05):
Me now, like what do you do? The second time,
you had Ryan with you, because we knew it went
so bad the first time and.
Speaker 2 (25:11):
They finally shut that down, right because you were pelting
people from below with stuffed what was it like, stuffed
animal version of of of a turkey?
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Right? Well? Yeah, the second time, there were children just
running around the field at Jacobson Park, you know, happy
that it was happening. And then iHeart legal team was
like did you get approval to do any of this?
I was like no, no, no I didn't. And they're like, okay,
well this will be the last time you do it.
So I'm glad that happened. It may or may not
be me that rapp Yeah, you probably went to our
(25:40):
bosses and you're like, this has been happening. Are you
guys going to do anything about it? But fun time
with you, dude.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Kentucky basketball ranked number nine in the preseason, Oway named
SEC Preseason Player of the Year. You know, we haven't
really talked a whole lot about Owai. I feel like
we've been, you know, trying to figure out who the
go to guy for those basketball team is going to be,
and a lot of talk about Jalen low transferring in
being the guy that has to play well for Kentucky
(26:08):
to win a lot of games this year. But I
feel like, oh wait, I mean, he was the guy
that held it all together last year and he kind
of kin was like we just forget about him. I mean,
I think that he obviously has to be a big
part of this year's team too, not just Jaalen Low.
Speaker 1 (26:21):
Well, last year was like where is this guy fit in?
And then he played so well that it was like, what,
you know, how can we be on the floor without
Otega Oway. I mean, he had was it twenty six
straight games where he scored double digits and then did
it in thirty three overall, becoming a second team All
SEC selection last year and well deserved from our guy
Otega who decided to stay and I'm sure got paid
(26:43):
a pretty good payday when it comes to Nil to
stay at Kentucky, But we're gonna need it again from him, right,
I mean, if Kentucky's going to want to live up
to their second ranking in the SEC according to the
preseason rankings, and what are they top ten in the
ap pole two, So I mean, if the going to
want to live up to those expectations, he's going to
be had to be somebody that plays well again. But
(27:04):
I think well deserved from him and then Jalen Low
that third team. Matt's talked about being all in. Man,
if he can be a good shooter this year, he
can be the most important player for Kentucky. So well
deserve honored for those guys. But I guess they'll pick
the defending national champion to win the SEC. Shannon, I
guess that's the only thing that's holding Kentucky back right now.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
If you look at the shooting numbers from practice, you
would think that this is the best shooting team that
ever existed. You know, like, look, we're the Boston Celtics
or something over here, guys, you know seventy five er talking.
Speaker 1 (27:33):
About the practice exactly.
Speaker 2 (27:35):
You know, you wonder how even a game, you wonder
how that's going to translate, you know, Trentonoah too, is
a guy that I think is going to get a
lot of playing time this year. I feel like, oh,
he's a guy that shoots the ball so well, you
can't keep them off the floor. And that's going to
be another problem that Pope is going to have. I've
got all this talent. How do I divide the minutes
up and keep everybody happy?
Speaker 1 (27:56):
And that's somebody that would not be on the roster
if Mark Pope didn't make a call, right, I mean,
it wasn't somebody I think that was going to join
Kentucky when John Calli Perry was the coach. So and
Travis Perry and Trent Noah come in and what do
you have it? By year two, it's Trent Noah that's
that's going to be the important role player and Travis
Perry that's already moved on and has had a different
(28:16):
SEC school. So it's it's interesting how things work out
like that. It's just good that assistant coaches are logging
into the system that is showing you how well the
people are shooting at UK practice. If you remember, yeah, yeah,
we actually use analytics. Now. The guys were like three
of the five coaches or two of the five that
hadn't even logged into the system where they recruit players
and look at analytics. So it's a good change over there.
(28:38):
What's happening at the Joe Craft Center, There's no doubt
about it.
Speaker 2 (28:41):
Richard writes in and wonders, is that an omen being
ranked number nine preseason? That's Kentucky title? Yeah, I don't know,
Maybe so, maybe so. I don't put a whole lot
of stock into preseason rankings. If you remember the your
Kentucky went nine in sixteen, I think they were ranked
preseason number three in the country and the worst record
I think in Kentucky basketball history that year. Yeah, and
(29:04):
don't tell Camra Mills about preseason rankings. I'm sure you'll
hear plenty of him and Dave Baker when the pregame
show comes around and these games start going, and he
is a proponent of that being nothing but a talking
point for us talking hits something I want to talk about, Shanon,
if you don't mind me veering off in a different
direction here for a second.
Speaker 1 (29:22):
Is the Uky Batman? Have you heard of this guy? No?
I have not, Okay, So he is on Instagram as
the uk Y Batman, and he did an interview with
the student newspaper at the University of Kentucky, the Kentucky Colonel.
He roams the library, the William T. Young Library, in
a full Batman suit, has his own Instagram account, and
(29:43):
he is going around shushing loud people in the library.
He is trying to make people's mood better throughout the day.
He is a superhero on Kentucky's campus, the uk Y Batman.
We have somebody dressing up as Batman shushing people at
a library and.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
He does this outside out of the month of October. Like,
this isn't just a Halloween thing. And is this a
guy who is Is he a student or is he
a grown man?
Speaker 1 (30:07):
I believe it's a student, and I believe he's been
doing it the past couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (30:12):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
I guess taking matters into his own hand. Maybe he
saw people being loud at the library and he said
that he had enough. But since he started, there's now
a uk Y riddler. I think a Uky joker now
people trying to get in on the fund. Maybe we're
straying from the point a little bit here, but do
you what would you think if a guy in a
Batman suit came up to you and shished you while
you were trying to talk in a library.
Speaker 2 (30:33):
I would probably tell him to shut up, and I
would probably still talk as a lot as I want to, although, oh,
you know there are there are some people though that,
well you're gonna fight Batman in a library.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
Well, it sounds like you're gonna shave it a hand
in his face as they get the hell hit him
over the head with the Dewey decimal system. I mean,
what do you are you gonna do? Wow? Okay, some microfiche. Yeah,
I'm sure he's doing a lot dressing up like that.
But if you know he's making people laugh and proving
people's mood, then then why not spread joy? Right? I
got a picture.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
I pulled up his Instagram and he found a picture
of him with some of Lexington's finest I mean, you
see a guy walking around in a Batman costume. Oh wow,
look in at the library. You're probably gonna be a
little suspicious of the guy, that's right.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
You. Law enforcement probably went up to him once or
twice asked him what he's doing. No.
Speaker 2 (31:16):
Remember the library at Kentucky, I mean feels like it's
an active place.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
You might remember.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
You probably don't remember, but back in the early days,
there was a guy that was going around and stabbing
people's feet in the library.
Speaker 1 (31:28):
He was the foot stabber, stabbing people's feet.
Speaker 2 (31:31):
He would sneak up underneath the table and stab people's
feet with like a pencil and then quickly run off.
And I never understood how they couldn't see the guy. Like,
if I'm sitting at a table and somebody comes up
and stabs my foot with a pencil and runs.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Off, I can clearly see who it is.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
I've got a description of the person, unless they're dressed
up as Batman and you can't see their face.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Is he bear crawling underneath the computers? Yes, this was.
This was a whole thing about I want to say.
Speaker 2 (32:01):
I don't know the year twenty twelve, maybe twenty eleven
was the early years of KSR, and there was somebody
going around it was.
Speaker 1 (32:09):
A serial footstabber. I don't know what the point of
it was.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
I don't know what fixation this person was getting out
of it, but stabbing people's feet in a library and
running away.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
And I don't think they ever called the guy. Well,
that sounds like when we needed Batman to show it away.
I mean, now it just sounds like everything's fine. He's
just going around talking to people. We needed Batman in
that moment. While we're talking about it. What's your Halloween
costume this year?
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Don't have one yet? Don't have one yet? I need
to find one of those spirit halloweens. You know, basically
it's usually a rundown Walgreens.
Speaker 1 (32:41):
Or saving thing. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:42):
I mean it's like a drug store that's gone out
of business and they go, oh, let's put a spirit
Halloween here. I got to find out where those are.
Do you have a Halloween costume yet?
Speaker 1 (32:52):
Yeah? So the fiance always goes in an inflatable, so
this year she is latable. Yeah. So she is the
kool Aid Man this year. Oh yeah, that's right. You
told me this are and I am a wall that
she is gonna bust through, Shannon, So okay, there you
go have fun with that one. She was the Pillsbury
dough boy in the past, and I was a Simon Bun, Cinnabon, cinnabon,
whatever it is. So we have fun. I tell you what.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
I may try to go out tonight and see if
I can find one of those spirit Halloween places. And
if I get a costume, I'll report back to you tomorrow. Okay, good, Yeah,
don't do the sheet with holes in it. You know
we were old enough for past that.
Speaker 1 (33:28):
Shannon.
Speaker 2 (33:28):
Well, we're balling on a budget over here. We'll do
the best we can, all right. Tell us about the
Stretch Lab. Oh yeah, Stretch Lab.
Speaker 1 (33:34):
So, like, if you're like me and you're a golfer,
maybe you've played pick a ball once in your life
and you still got back pain from it. Or you've
been carrying a radio show for four years and you
need to work on your posture, me your range of
motion and flexibility. Maybe you'd like to reduce stress because
your co host comes in and you've got to carry
the show all the time. I wanted you to check
out Stretch Lab. It's a boutique fitness franchise that offers
(33:56):
customized one on one assisted stretching by a trained flexology
in a modern and friendly communal environment. I have my
appointment today at the Lexington location where Gannon will give
me a fifty minute assisted stretch. Fifteen minutes. Fifty minutes.
I mean, you've got tranquil music going on in the background,
you're talking to your flexologists about you know, how you
(34:17):
can improve these things like your range of motion and
your posture. They're very knowledgeable and each flexologist is a
little different, So depending on when you go, you might
get a different person and they might teach you something
different about yourself. But if you use the promo code
Bogies with Billy, that's Bogies with Billy, you can get
a fifty minutes one on one assisted stretch with a
computerized mobility assessment for just forty nine dollars. So maybe
(34:39):
you're somebody that stands a lot. Maybe you're a truck
driver and you're sitting a lot all day. I mean,
there's a lot of different professions that can get you
in bad posture and can get you in your quality
of life down check out Stretch Lab. They have a
location in Lexington and also in Fort Wright, and use
the promo code Bogies with Billy. That's Stretch Lab. You're
in Lexington for right.
Speaker 2 (35:00):
Eight five, nine, two, eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
We'll take more phone calls coming up after the break.
And I've been holding onto this story for a while.
You know, you called yourself old and me even older. Yeah,
just a few minutes ago. These are old people phone
habits that make younger people cringe. We'll see if you
do any of them. Coming up next here on the
ksrpre Show. Final segments of the KSR Pre Show. KSR
(35:24):
coming up next Friday will be out at forty six
Solutions in Lexington and then after that, Billy everybody can
come out and join us at white Castle. We're gonna
have a lunch out at white Castle at East Reynolds
Road from twelve thirty till one thirty and it's all
to benefit the NEST. So here's the thing with the NEST.
Anytime you go to white Castle between now and November thirtieth,
(35:45):
you can round up your mill and those extra sense
go straight to the NEST, which is a local nonprofit
that helps families and crises. And it means that you're
helping parents escape domestic violence, providing counseling and giving kids
a safer place to grow. And last year the NEST
provided resources to thousands of families who had nowhere else
to turn. And if the fun part is like I
(36:05):
said on Friday, you get to come out, you can
support the Nest and you can join us for lunch
from twelve thirty to one thirty. Again, it's the east
Rentold Road and we'll see you there coming up on Friday.
Speaker 1 (36:15):
Yeah. Do they have anything other than sliders at White Castle?
I don't even know what do you mean, of course
they do. What do they got, Well, they got the
cheese sticks.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
You can get chicken ring sandwiches, you can ring, Yeah,
cheese fries. Here's the White Castle. Is the only place
I ever drink a big Red?
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Wait? Why, I don't know what it is.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
I mean, you go to White Castle, you got to
get a big red to go along with it. I
think the sliders and the brown mustard and the onion
rings go perfect with the big red.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
I don't know. Do you ever drink big red outside
of a White Castle? Well, no, I don't drink it
when I'm in a white Castle to it it.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Will change your life. Net this Friday, I'm gonna make
sure you get.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
A big red to go with your It may be
my first sober event at a white Castle. So looking
that's true. Is it the earliest in the day you've
ever been there?
Speaker 2 (37:03):
I mean, I guess if you got like one, am
I guess that would technically be early. So is that
like the I guess, like the only time you've ever
been to a white castle mid day?
Speaker 1 (37:11):
Yeah, maybe the only time mid day or in the
PM that I've been to a white castle. You're right,
it may be only am stops that I've been there.
One person asked on the text line, when is a
Halloween costume too expensive? My fifteen year old wants to
dress as a Formula one driver and the costume is
ninety five dollars.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
Yeah, if you're only wearing it one time, that feels
like a lot one hundred dollars for a kid.
Speaker 1 (37:32):
They grow out of it, right, exactly.
Speaker 2 (37:35):
But here's the thing too, though, do you get to
recycle your costume every year? Because I've got like one
or two. But yeah, I was Joe Exotic one year.
I don't think I can do Joe Exotic this year.
It doesn't really. It's not really timely, you know. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
Yeah, it's kind of like a one and done thing.
But when you're a kid, those are some memorable moments, right,
I've got some very memorable Halloween costumes in the past,
so I think you got to do it for the
for the kids memories at least. But five is quite
a pill to swallow. Whatever happened.
Speaker 2 (38:02):
So Joe Exotic, by the way, is still in prison,
right from Tiger King.
Speaker 1 (38:06):
Yeah, because he was waiting on a pardon from Trump Trump.
Speaker 2 (38:09):
Yeah, he didn't get it, you know. And I've still
got my Tiger King costume that.
Speaker 1 (38:14):
Yeah, you can't run it back. That'd be lazy shit.
He can't be Tiger King in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
And I've already been the dude in the past from
the Big Lebowski.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
That'd be the one that you could do every year.
I could do it.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
So you think that's okay if I do that, I mean,
it's not very fun.
Speaker 1 (38:27):
I might call you out on it, but yeah, I
think it'd be acceptable for your neighbor party that you're
probably gonna throw with all your pumpkins.
Speaker 2 (38:33):
Okay, all right, all right, so here we go. We
I was talking about this a minute ago. Things that
younger people call older people out that make them cringe
when it comes to cell phone etiquette.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
Things that they do.
Speaker 2 (38:46):
You tell me if you do any of these, I'm
already guilty at number one.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Oh, cold calling.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
Calling somebody picking up the phone and just calling somebody
without texting them first.
Speaker 1 (38:57):
Yeah, I do that too? Good? Okay, really are getting old,
so that's cringe. Now to the new generation to call somebody. Yeah,
just pick it up your phone and calling somebody.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
I guess you're supposed to send a text message first,
you know, initiate the conversation, and then I guess you
could say, hey, can.
Speaker 1 (39:11):
I call you? But cold calling? Call them?
Speaker 2 (39:14):
If that's me, man, if you want to talk to me,
pick up the phone and call me.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
I hate like having permission before I call you. No,
just don't pick up the phone and then I'll leave
a message and we'll connect another time. I already hate
this one.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
Okay, number two, I don't do this one, sending long texts.
You know me, I don't like texting to begin with.
I will text, but I don't. I'm not going to text,
you know, paragraphs to somebody. But sending long text apparently
is an old person thing.
Speaker 1 (39:42):
Or do you do that not anymore? I mean I
know that you're getting younger then okay, well yeah, like
I think when I was dating, I definitely sent long texts.
But I mean, what would a what would a reason
be why I need to send a text that long? Anymore?
Speaker 2 (39:55):
I can call them there you go, but you're not
supposed to do it. But you're not supposed to do that.
Though not supposed to do long text not locking your
phone screen, and that bothers the younger generations.
Speaker 1 (40:05):
I guess old people they just don't lock their phone screen, Okay,
I mean, are they worried about my battery life? I
don't know. The problem is I don't think.
Speaker 2 (40:13):
And then and then finally they say, unknowingly turning on
the flashlight. Okay, I think I think I've done that
at a time. That's definitely the one I've done before
as well. And I can understand if that makes uh,
somebody younger cringe complete. I mean, come on, So, out
of those, what are you guilty of two of the four?
Speaker 1 (40:30):
Two of the four? So I'm almost there. You're halfway old. Yeah,
and what were you? Were you three of the four? No?
I was one.
Speaker 2 (40:37):
I only did one. You only did one the cold calling.
Other than that, Yeah, well, you're the.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
One that's young at hard on this show, I guess.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
I guess so, and Ryan, who is the oldest person,
is the one who's youngest heart out of all of us.
Zadarius Smith retires mid season from the Eagles Yeah, surprised
to see that, Like, what is so bad going on
that you have to retire mid season?
Speaker 1 (40:59):
You can't wait till the end of the season.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
But I know he had that back issue, that back
injury that he had I think two or three years ago,
Maybe that contributed to it. But you know, he's had
a pretty decent run. And uh, kind of sad to
see this. Zadarius is cally it quits mid season for
the Eagles.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
Well yeah, I mean he'd played in the NFL for
like ten plus years. I think was an early star
for Mark Stoops and I think when you know, the
games left just Shannon, you know, right, So whether it
be mid season, before the season, or after, those high
level athletes can kind of make a decision and say, hey,
the games left me. At this point, maybe it is
time to retire. But it was sad to see that.
I mean, that was a guy fourth round pick in
(41:36):
the NFL and had done a lot of good things.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
So wishing the best of luck for him to try
to ride it out at least and you know, finish
the year and get that you're just.
Speaker 1 (41:42):
The one that wants to catch this and all about that.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
And you get cash it on DraftKings, Promo code ks
bet five dollars. If your first bet hits, you're gonna
get three hundred dollars in bonus bets. Again, that's what
promo code ks are for new customers on Draft Kings.
The Crown is yours. This has been the KSR Pre
Show Show one thousand, coming up to what ks RS next.
Thanks for listening see it
