Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KSR pre Show.
Today is Wednesday, October fifteenth. I am Billy Rutluge along
with Shannon the Dude. You can give us call on
the Clark's Pumpet Shot phone line that's eight five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven or text us
at five oh two two sixty five six six five six.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
As always, the KSR Pre Show is brought to you.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
By Italics Fine Italian Dining in Lexington, Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
Here at the City Center. That's where I'm at today.
Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hi atop the City Center on the seventh floor for
episode one thousand of the KSR pre Show. And a
little surprise, my co host didn't take a vacation day
today as he knew today was episode one thousand. Shannon
the Dude is here live and in color. What's up, Shannon?
Speaker 2 (00:46):
How are you? I'm doing five, I'm doing okay, I'm
doing okay.
Speaker 3 (00:48):
I would have taken a vacation day, but I was
promised on show one thousand there would be a cake.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
There would be balloons, there would be.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Belly dancers, and none of that is here in the
studio right now. There's nothing like there's absolutely nothing for
show one thousand, and I'm a little disappointed.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
So you ask how I'm doing. I mean, I'm doing okay.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
I could be doing a lot better if those things
I was promised were actually here in the studio with me.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
But they're not.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I don't remember those promises here bawling on a budget
over here in Lexington can afford a cake or belly
dancers to give you here in the Louisville studio. So
maybe you were expecting that from our bosses. But nevertheless,
and it's been a hell of a ride with you, buddy.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
Yeah, man, it's been a lot of fun. I can't
believe it's been one thousand. So we started this show
back in October of what year?
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Would that be? Twenty one to one?
Speaker 3 (01:33):
Excuse me. I get choked up just thinking about it.
And I remember getting a call from our boss. I
remember where I was, But I got a call from
our boss and said, hey, would you be interested in
doing a pre show? And I didn't quite understand what
he meant. He had to explain it because I thought
he meant, like, would I be interested in doing like
the pregame shows like before Kentucky basketball games? Or football games,
(01:54):
and I was like, no, I don't know. I kind
of like, you know what I got going on here?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
He's like no, no, no, no, a because he caught
it a pregame show at the time. But now he said, no,
I'm not talking about before a game. I'm talking about
a pre show, a show before KSR where you guys,
you and Billy would do the show together.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I was like, Billy, really, really, just dick me, Billy
your first rest.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
Yeah. I was like okay.
Speaker 3 (02:17):
So then he was like, you know, kind of like
a wrap up show, but the wrap up show is
before the show, if that makes any sense at all. Like,
if you listen to the Howard Stern Show, they used
to have a wrap up show. I don't think they
have that anymore, but they used to have a show
where they kind of recapped everything that happened on KSR.
And after I thought about it, I was like, you
know what that that kind of sounds cool.
Speaker 2 (02:35):
That sounds like a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (02:36):
So we started it in October of twenty twenty one,
and four years later, here we are one thousand shows.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
It's one thousand shows, really amazing, and I'm thankful that
you were on board because maybe months before we got
the show, I asked you to be the co host
on my new podcast and you turned me down.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
So like, I consider this a consolation prize.
Speaker 1 (02:59):
I don't know if that was the universe working in
a mysterious way there, but you know, this is something
that I'd always strive forward to be on the radio.
So when I got a call back in October of
twenty twenty one and it was Michael Jordan and then
Matt after that talking about if we would be interested,
absolutely I was interested doing nothing at my house for
over a year.
Speaker 2 (03:18):
At that point.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Uh, and it's been one heck of a ride. So
I've asked you to give some of your favorite KSR
pre show moments in the one thousand episodes that we've done.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Chanin.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Was that hard to think of? Or where did three
come to mind?
Speaker 5 (03:30):
Me?
Speaker 3 (03:30):
I'm still thinking of them right now on the spot.
So if you asked me right now to give you
the three, I would have to completely improv and just
make up some stuff.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
And I'm glad you did. You've done some show prep today,
looks sounds we get right.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Yeah, here's the thing you and I roll in here
do we keep it true to the KSR style. KSR
is always flap by the City of your Pants. There's
never like any pre show meetings or anything that we
talk about like, hey, here's what we're going to discuss
on the show today. None of that happens, and people
never believe us. But that has been one out of
sent true for the last fourteen years that I've been
(04:02):
on KSR. And I thought, you know what, if we're
going to do a pre show, we might as well
keep it in that same, you know, style, and not
discuss things that we're talking about here.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
That's canceller in a nutshow.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
And not do homework. So I haven't done any homework
for show one thousand. We want to make it as
mediocre as possible.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Today I went back and listened to the first episode yesterday, thinking, hey,
maybe i'll clip something from it and I can play
it on the show tomorrow. You don't want to hear that.
You do not want to hear our first episode? I
mean talk about awkward. I guess we just didn't have
the chemistry back then that we do now, Shannon, We've
seen that develop over the years, don't you think?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Sure?
Speaker 3 (04:37):
Yeah, it takes time. It takes time when you're doing
a new show with somebody. I mean, that's why, like
when you're on vacation, I like a lot of times
to bring on somebody from the show, just because you
have that built in chemistry, whether.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
It be Ryan or Mario.
Speaker 3 (04:49):
It's tough to just go out and get somebody and
fill an hour with someone who you're not used to
talking to and you don't really know how much of
the show they can feel. So it's hard to prepare
for a show when you may bring on a co
host that has very little to say, yeah, and you
know you've.
Speaker 2 (05:04):
Done a good job with that.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
When I've been out on vacation and you know, I've,
like I said, brought in some different people as well.
But it's it's definitely a thing where it takes some
time to build chemistry with somebody when you're doing a
show every day.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
Though it helps.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Yeah, no to that point, big thank you to guys
like Mario and Drew and Ryan who have come in
and done the show with us when one of us
have been out or I think of guys like Tom
Crean who joined me after I said he wasn't interested
in the Western job. That just wasn't true. Rich Brooks,
who came on and said that Mark Stoops deserves a
statue here on the KSR pre Show. Have had great
shows with Cash, Daniel, Maggie Davis, Coach, Keith Madison. Craig
(05:40):
Skinner has joined the show, chie Richie Farmer, Jeff Bikoro,
Goose Givens, Tom Leach. I mean, a big thank you
to everybody that's helped us over the years, and also
the callers. I mean we're nothing without John Short calling
in and telling us about the volleyball score, or you
know Paul in Minnesota, a school teacher telling us about cheechy.
He's opening up in the line that's three months long.
(06:02):
It's you know, the daily interactions with the listeners. I
think has been the really the most gratitude I've gotten
from the job, Shannon, that you're somebody that's answered calls
for over a decade almost two at this point now,
and you've been able to build a relationship more with
callers through this show as well.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Right, Yeah, I mean coming into the show, I didn't
really know what to expect. I didn't know how many
people would actually listen to it. But we've you know,
I think got a lot of great rating numbers over
the years, and that's been really nice to see that
people are actually listening to the show. A lot of
callers that have been from the KSR family that have
started listening to the KSR pre show as well. So yeah,
(06:39):
I mean, it's that's what we do here. I mean,
taking calls. That's really my favorite part of the show
is hearing from our listeners. So if you'd like to
call in today they five to nine to two, eight
h twenty two eighty seven.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
We'll take your calls. That's right.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
And before I get into some of my favorite moments
of the pre show, Shanning, can I give you some
honorable mentions that I thought of last night? Let's go
because Big Blue Kazoo was gonna get off the ground, Shannon,
and it just didn't, you know. I mean, I've still
got thirty Kazoos in my car ready to hand out
to Kentucky fans if they want to turn the tide
at Kroger.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
Field one of these days.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
I mean, that was one of our early maybe not
I say, are maybe one of my early ideas that
just never launched properly.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
Well, we tried, we tried, you know, we thought that
that would be our answer to uh, you know, some
sort of tradition cowbill or the cowbell. You know, there's
no artificial noise makers in the SEC unless you're Mississippi State.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
But we tried, and it fell flat very quickly.
Speaker 3 (07:30):
I think we had maybe one or two people that
were on board, and the rest of the people said,
what a stupid idea. And I would say back to you, well,
what's your better idea than yeah, yeah, I haven't seen
anything else any better come out of a you know,
a football game at Kroger Field that would be a
tradition or be anything close to a tradition. So I
think that the big Blue Kazoo should have gotten more
(07:52):
respect than it did and people should have really grabbed
onto that.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Yeah, just think sixty thousand big blue Kazoos, kind of
like the voos in South Africa. That one year, Shannon
the Dude and I were up bright and early ready
to go after the losses to Saint Peter's in Oakland.
I mean that next morning we were ready for reaction.
I actually hosted the Leech Report the morning after Saint Peter's,
so I had to have my very professional hat on
(08:16):
for an hour and then Shannon, I think we yelled
at our microphones for the next hour after.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
We did, and I felt like we got yelled at
too from our callers because we were on before KSR
and people that couldn't wait till ten o'clock to get
on there and rant about losing to Oakland and Saint Peter's.
We had to take the brunt of the callers first,
so I feel like we were kind of like the
call so we were the first wave. Yeah, exactly. There
was no doubt of madness from everybody.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
We were live at Kentucky Branded where I asked where
the Netflix cameras were before that was ever announced that
it was a Netflix documentary. I don't think I said
another word the rest of that segment, Shannon, which was
a good time. And I've got some coffee in my
hand now, probably thanks to my co host, Shannon the
dude here, whether it be Funky Rooster Coffee who endorsed
us for a while here on the pre show.
Speaker 2 (09:00):
Shannon literally got me addicted to this stuff over the
last few years.
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Well, I'm glad that I can make you a coffee drinker,
you know, I think drink your coffee much like I do.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
A lot of cream, a lot of sugar, a little
bit of coffee coffee with my cream and sure, yeahah.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
You pour the cream and sugar in first, then you'd
put the coffee in last, because that's really the least
important ingredient to coffee.
Speaker 1 (09:20):
And a proponent of hazel nut as just continued to
build that chemistry over the years. So, Shannon, I've got
a few moments I want to share for you. Why
don't you start me off with one? Give me a
favorite moment of the ksrpre show.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
Well, I've got three of them here. Should I start with?
Speaker 5 (09:33):
Like?
Speaker 2 (09:34):
What I think is my least favorite? I guess that
other three? Yeah, let's go three to one.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
Yeah. Well, we kind of talked about this yesterday a
little bit. I think just I'm going to combine this
all into one. Okay, whether it be just taste testing
products that kind of became our thing when we tried
the was it the flaming hot Cheetos mountain dew, which
was disgusting. It was the stardust pepsi that we did
(09:59):
which was not bad, which was okay. I would have
drank more of that, but I felt like just all
the times that we had tried different new products. I
feel like we were like that was our culinary part
of the show that we've kind of straight.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
Away from a little bit. I think we need to
get back to that.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
But just trying out different new products and telling you
whether or not they're good on this show.
Speaker 2 (10:18):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
I even bought Miller Lite beer can chicken pringles the
other time. I try to get us to try that,
and then they came and they were all broken, and
I got really sad.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
So I guess I got four. Actually, so let me
give you an I'll lump this one in that.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
You got an honorable mention or a fourth you one
an ad go ahead, yell, and just.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
One we talked about yesterday too, is just failing at
world records.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
I think we tried maybe one or two.
Speaker 3 (10:40):
The day that I tried to cram twenty saltines into
my mouth on and do radio at the same time.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Was not a good idea, which was great radio radio,
fantastic radio.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
You chewing.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Yes, you also trying to stuff. I guess what stick thems?
What do you call those post it notes?
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Posted notes posted on my face? That was under a minute.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
That was a stupid idea, but we did that one too,
So a lot of my favorite moments come from dumb
ideas that we've done on the show over the years.
Speaker 1 (11:09):
Well, speaking of dumb ideas, my first one I have
to mention is one mentioned yesterday as well, and that
was the Ham and Donut toss. I mean, there was
not a better two shows that we've done. Then when
I got up in that helicopter with Officer Don as
God as my witness, I thought pigs could fly and
I threw those little stuff pigs and then donuts the
year after out of the helicopter. A big thank you
(11:30):
to Lewis Hager of hagar Ham's and North Lime Coffee
and Donuts, who served as the sponsors for those shows.
Speaker 2 (11:37):
Shannon.
Speaker 1 (11:38):
That was back when I was still trying to change
the world one show at a time, and that was
a lot of fun, especially the second time when all
the children came out and we're running around at Jacobson Park.
Like I said last time, I don't know if our
bosses were thrilled we did that, but that was still
a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Fact, I don't think they liked that the guy who
was responsible for mowing the grass around the field that
you threw those stuff pigs. Oh yeah, apparently chopped up
a few of those that got austin the high grass
that nobody ever found.
Speaker 2 (12:03):
It's not a great turnout the first year.
Speaker 3 (12:05):
They were that happy that you broke the lawnmower with
the stuff pigs.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
I don't remember that.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
I don't think we broke any lawnmowers, but like he
was the only other guy out there that first year.
Speaker 2 (12:13):
Yeah, I'll give you.
Speaker 1 (12:14):
I'll give you another moment, and is that is when
you realize the power of KSR.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
Shannon.
Speaker 1 (12:19):
There's been several shows throughout the pre show's existence where
the power of KSR comes in and I truly felt it.
Do you remember the show we did when Jason al
Dean canceled a concert because he wanted to go to
a North Carolina Final four game?
Speaker 2 (12:31):
Oh yeah, I do. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
That was early on in the pre show's existence, and
I could not believe the interaction we got, the amount
of callers that kept calling, in the amount of text
we got on the text line, the show that I
lost my keys, the show that Shannon had a mouse
in his garage, and we had people give us solutions
to try to fix it. It is amazing what gets
people like interacting with the show and Shannon, There's been
(12:54):
several instances, even when you mentioned that you're growing pumpkins,
that we hear from just people well, you know, a
lot of different people, from a lot of different plays.
Speaker 3 (13:03):
What we found out over the years is if it's
a nonsports topic, people have a lot more strong passionate
opinions about that then a lot of times what happened
on the game, you know, Saturday or you know after
a basketball game, people have strong opinions. We get more interaction.
And this is true on KSR. It has always been
true on KSR. People say stick to sports. No, there's
(13:24):
a reason we don't stick to sports. It's because when
we talk about random stuff, people have more things to say.
We get more calls, we get more interaction on the
text line, on Twitter or whatever it may be, on
stuff that has nothing to do with Kentucky sports. And
that's why I think that this show has has really
just been a success over the years KSR. I'm talking
about into pre show too, but I think it's you know,
(13:47):
Mad's ability to be able to step back and not
do two hours strictly on sports because we love the
non sports topics.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
And that's very different from what I expected this show
to be. You know, I was ready to be Colin
cow Heard and take over the sports radio world world.
But it naturally became an extension of KSR, which I
think is the best radio around for a reason.
Speaker 2 (14:05):
Shannon, give me another moment. I got okay the next one.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
I don't know that this is necessarily something that happened
on the pre show, but it happened the day we
were doing the pre show, and that's how you got
the name to Mimosa Billy. We were on Remo out
they had mimosas, and really the way you became to
Momosabilly was what happened after the show when you had
as you can imagine, to mimosas at a remote and
(14:28):
then you drove home or you rode home i should say,
with Ryan and Mario and you got sick off the
two mimosas. You had some beaver nuggets from Bucky's yes
that day, and you threw up your beaver nuggets all
over Ryan's car because you got a little too drunk
off of two mimosas.
Speaker 5 (14:46):
Well.
Speaker 1 (14:46):
I will, you know, clear something up it was three mimosas.
You know, it's been famously changed the two the next
day by Matt and called me to mimosa Billy had
a couple of mimosas. Then I had a whole play
to barbecue right before we got in the car that
was trying to.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
See you tried to blame the barbecue. Oh yeah, and
I'm blaming the barbecue.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
Then I like silently puke into the Bucky's bag in
the back of the car with Ryan and Drew in it.
They start smelling something.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
Yeah, I just I was told it wasn't quietly vomiting.
I was I was told it was projectile vomiting like
the Exorcist with the green the pea soup.
Speaker 2 (15:20):
That's the windows.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
I was told, you threw up all over the place
and then your head started spinning on your shoulders, just
like all I.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Did was turn that into a T shirt and a brand.
So I mean, that's that's how you make the best
out of a bad decision. And I guess finally, Shannon,
we've got one more moment to share. Uh, why don't
you share yours before I share mine?
Speaker 3 (15:40):
Go ahead, What's no doubt that the best moment in
the KSR apprecial history is was it Don Behavale Toss? No,
it was at Don Franklin when I humiliated you in
front of everybody by doing the push up contest. You
wanted to challenge me for some reason to a push
up contest and I absolutely destroyed you in front of
a live audience. And I don't think you've ever recovered
(16:01):
from that. And that is, without a doubt my favorite moment.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Of at the case.
Speaker 1 (16:04):
That is so funny because that is the first remote
we ever did. That was in Don Franklin, I believe
in Somerset, I think, and that is also my number one.
The Friday remotes and the things and antics that happen
at them, whether it be the pushup contest, the plank
challenge that I completed the other day.
Speaker 2 (16:22):
If I do say so myself, I'll.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Us doing the world record attempts, maybe playing family feud
at the New Whiskey Thief location, or even like at
Country Ham Days where we're doing things like the Haybell Toss.
The things that happen at the Friday remotes have just
it's they've been incredible. They've brought me so close to
you and the KSR. Guys, you've become family to me.
I used to be so nervous at those shows. It's
(16:46):
not easy to do a show in front of one
hundred people looking at you like that. It's kind of
different when you're just on the air on the radio
with the light going on. But you guys making me
feel comfortable. And over four years of doing those live
shows and the stupid stuff that we do at them,
and that is no doubt my favorite thing about our
pre show over the last four year.
Speaker 3 (17:03):
Yeah, it's been a lot of fun. It's been a pleasure.
And here's two one thousand more.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Here's two one thousand more. Baby.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
You know, if we're still working here, if we still
have jobs here, and I guess another four years five
nine two eight oh two two eight seven. You could
also text us at five oh two two six five
six six five six, join the show, tell us about
some of your favorite moments. Today, we've got some Kentucky
sports to talk about, including UK basketball.
Speaker 2 (17:26):
At SEC Media Days.
Speaker 1 (17:28):
In Birmingham, Mitch Barnhardt seems like he's given a vote
of confidence to Mark Stoops via the Lexington Herald Leader.
We can talk about that and much more on the
way on a Wednesday edition of the ksrpre show Welcome Back,
It is Billy and the Dude for the one thousand time.
We were trying to think during the break what songs
(17:49):
we were gonna play as the theme song, eventually going
to Steeler's Wheel Stuck in the Middle with You, But
believe this was one.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
Of the songs that we played, Shannon, I was trying
to remember, like, we put it up to a vote.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
We had fo or maybe five songs that we picked
and then we wanted to put it out there for
the fans to vote, say, okay, pick the theme song
for the KSR pre show. You know, Mattis talked about
how you picked where Wolves of London. He just so
happened to be listening to Warren Zevon on the way
to work that day, So it could have literally been
any theme song for KSR.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
But for the pre.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
Show, we wanted to, you know, put the power into
the hands of our listeners, and they picked Stuck in
the Middle with You, which I think is the perfect
theme song for the pre show. But we had some
other ones, and I think for those about to Rock
by E C d C was one of the suggestions.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Yeah, I think we had like a Stone Temple pilot
song in there, maybe Incubus. Ye, kind of showing the
you know what we like in the and the artists
that we think are the best. Well on, One person
on the text line said, speaking of KSR pre show
low lights, how about when you hosted KSR and chose
the Flintstones theme song over Andy Griffith's show. That's right, Yeah,
(18:54):
I gave you a lot of crap for that. That
was early on too, trying to make a name for
our show. Hey, pre show is gonna host ks ARE Well,
the guys are out. Let's do a bracket that will
fill some time. Let's do a bracket. Hey, we did
finish the bract we did. We did, and we have
to do more that some people.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
That's true.
Speaker 3 (19:12):
We haven't done a bracket in a long time. We
didn't do any of this summer. I thought, that's right,
we didn't do it.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
No, we didn't. We didn't do a single bracket.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
Sometimes I feel like that is, you know, if there's
one that comes out that somebody already has that's debatable,
that's fun.
Speaker 2 (19:25):
We can do it, But I don't know.
Speaker 3 (19:28):
After a while, I feel like it's it's been done
so many times, it just doesn't have the same omf
to it, like, yeah, the first time.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
We did it.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
And when you've got brackets that involve playing music, then
the podcast listeners can't hear the music anymore.
Speaker 2 (19:39):
It's just you know, it's it's ad story.
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Can I tell you something about that real quick before
we move on. We were going to do a sixty
four song country music bracket on KSR. Yeah, and I
put together like every like every song, every song that
was going to be on the brack. I had it
like went, and so I had to pull sixty four
different songs, had them all organized side by side so
(20:04):
that when we went to play the songs on the air,
I would have them easily.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Or swing in order. Yeah, exactly.
Speaker 3 (20:09):
So a lot of time and organization went into pulling
these songs and then grouping them together on the button
bar and the whole deal.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
We never even did it.
Speaker 3 (20:18):
We never even like star or even started it. And now,
of course it's not even worth doing it because you
can't keep it in the podcast because of the whole
music thing music rights.
Speaker 1 (20:29):
Oh, that's just you know, the thankless job of a
producer and Shannon and myself have been doing that for
years now here on KSR, and Shannon host and produces
this show. So I mean that's something that may get
lost on some people as well, but he'll remind you
probably wants a show Shannon. Every year brackets released for
the NCAA tournament, and you can bet on that bracket
as well on Draftking.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
That's right, and do it with promo code KSR. If
you're a new customer, you bet five dollars, you're gonna
get three hundred dollars in bonus bets instantly, but your
first butt has to win.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
That's the caveat here.
Speaker 3 (20:59):
So you can do any kind of parlay that you want,
string together, multiple game parlays, live in game betting, player props.
It's all there for you on the Draft King sportsbook
promo code KSR. Bet five as a new customer, your
first bet hits, you get three hundred in bonus bets instantly,
and you can do those boost on there as well.
Make sure you take advantage of those. If you're on

co slash audio limited time offer.
Speaker 1 (21:35):
Not a lot of times, so we'll wait to take
a call on the other side of this break. But
I did like the news note yesterday Shannon that Reparna
is going to be having a free postgame party after
the Kentucky Purdue exhibition game. So on October twenty first,
from seven to ten outside of Triangle Park, they'll have
a country concert, food and beverages available. Do you think
there'll be a success?
Speaker 4 (21:56):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (21:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:56):
I think it's a good thing that they're trying to
branch out and you know, give you something to do
after the game, some sort of some form of entertainment.
I think the basketball team and people have said this,
the basketball team did so well with big Blue madness
and the entertainment aspect of that. I don't know why
we can't carry that over into football and make it
more fun. You're gonna lose, at least be fun losers,
(22:19):
you know, So I don't know, but yeah, I think that, Uh,
I think it'll be a lot of fun. Cam Thompson,
I believes the guy who's going to be playing out there.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
Yes, so just another innovated way to get the fans involved.
We'll take a break and be right back here in
the case.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
I appreciate welcome back.
Speaker 1 (22:36):
It is the case our pre show episode one thousand
of Billy and the Dude, and you can give us
call it eight five nine two eight oh two two
eight seven. Do I keep posting the show number?
Speaker 2 (22:45):
Shannon? I do that every morning on Twitter? Do we
just keep that tradition going?
Speaker 4 (22:48):
Of course?
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Why would you stop at one thousand? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
He's just gonna. I guess you're got to one thousand.
I can't do anymore. I mean, why why would you quit?
Speaker 2 (22:57):
No, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
I think it's it's a good practice, though discipline, to
give people a link to listen to the show every day. Now,
we just got to start posting social media videos. We
need our own Mario here in the.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Studio to fill do and we've talked about that since
the very beginning, and well KSR itself has I guess
done that before we did, But we don't have again,
we have limited resources here for the pre show.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Can't even get a producer in here. Yeah, that's right,
but you know, we keep on going strong. We'll take
some calls in just a second. I do want to
talk about SEC media days down in Birmingham, Alabama, where
yesterday where otega Oway spoke to the media. He said
he's back at practice with a full go. Actually had
a dunk outside of the free throw line at practice
(23:41):
the other day, So good to hear that the SEC
preseason Player of the Year is back at practice and
fully healthy. Also, Mark Pope spoke to the media talking
about seeing number nine everywhere he goes. He likes that
they're number nine in the eight peopole. He also said
that everybody on the team shares his obsession with winning.
He had the guys over the house one night playing
the dice game Bank and the game got so competitive
(24:04):
that an assistant coach broke a dining room chair.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Upset at the game. That sounds like me, though.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
I flipped a board once or twice playing Monopoly, but
I didn't use it as excuse because I'm so competitive, Shannon.
But we got assistant coaches breaking chairs at Mark Pope's
over dominoes, like, I don't know, I don't know how
to play dominoes.
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Yeah, I don't either, So is that what bank is?
Is that the dominoes game? I thought it was that.
I thought you just said dominoes? Did you not just
said dice? Oh, dice? Okay, Dice, okay, dice.
Speaker 3 (24:35):
Sorry, Well I don't know how to play that either,
so dice or dominoes.
Speaker 1 (24:39):
But I love that you want highly competitive guys, and
that especially fits Mark Pope's m O. And so after
the news yesterday, basketball season, I mean next Friday, that's
when that exhibition game it is almost here. We also
heard from other coaches yesterday. Chris Beard talked a lot
about Travis Perry and the role that he's going to
play at Old Miss this year, and also Mark Byington
(25:00):
at Vandy revealed that he sold insurance before he became
a coach.
Speaker 2 (25:03):
Well you could tell it by look at him.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
He looks like a guy that would sell you insurance
and then tell you to get into the two three zone.
Your guy, Yeah he is, but you know, I mean
look to his credit, he along with Kentucky, you know,
had very young teams last year and he was able
to get to twenty wins for Vanderbilt, So I'm still
holding out hope that he may actually work out there
at Vandy.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Yeah, and you better believe Travis Perry's gonna have a
big game versus he is.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Man come, I know he is.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
It's is gonna be weird seeing him play against Kentucky,
a guy from Kentucky that loved Kentucky. But you know,
if he were to stay here, who would you have
played him over?
Speaker 4 (25:37):
Like?
Speaker 3 (25:37):
He would have been so far down the bench that
he wouldn't I don't think he would get that much
playing time.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
Yeah, that's the thing.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
I mean, while Trent Noah is finding a lot of
playing time for being a good shooter at a three
to four spot, I mean one two. I mean, he's
just been over recruited. Right when you get a guy
like Aberdeen and low to come in there, and you
retain a guy like oh Way and Colin Chandler's making
strides like he is, it is tough to find a
spot for him. But my fellow Funky Rooster Brethren wish
(26:04):
him the best of luck. At Ole miss and and
the Wade, Chris Beard was talking about him. He is
going to be a big part of their operation this year.
But let's take a call eight five nine two two
two eight seven. Who's up first, dude, Let's go to
Peanut first. Hey, Peanut, Hey, Peanut.
Speaker 2 (26:19):
Hey guys.
Speaker 6 (26:19):
Hey, I'm doing congratulations on thousands.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Thank you man, Hey, thank you Peanut.
Speaker 6 (26:25):
Yeah, I just want to say, yeah, over the years, man,
y'all been great. I've gravitated more to calling you guys
rather than the big show. And y'all, y'all don't get
mad when you hear the Bobcat or owre. So y'all
been Joe being cool. I appreciate you guys, no problem.
I can't wait till I can get out.
Speaker 2 (26:45):
Yeah. Yeah, how are you doing? Yeah? What are you
feeling better?
Speaker 5 (26:50):
Yeah? I'm better.
Speaker 6 (26:51):
I can walk a little bit, but I'm still in
the wheelchair a lot, and the walker around the house
and still got the hospital bed in the garage. But
I'd say two months, three months, I'll probably be back
to work.
Speaker 3 (27:04):
So all right, Well, we look forward to hear call
in with the Bobcat going off in the background.
Speaker 1 (27:09):
That that will be yeah, return, Yeah, all right, thank you, Peanut,
appreciate you man.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
Yeah. Day one caller there, Peanut.
Speaker 3 (27:18):
That's right, yep, absolutely another day one caller, a guy
who's been calling shows for years.
Speaker 2 (27:25):
Who's that John Short?
Speaker 4 (27:26):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Johnny? What's up? John?
Speaker 4 (27:28):
All right? That's great Americans.
Speaker 2 (27:31):
You're a great American. You're a better American.
Speaker 4 (27:35):
Well, thank you?
Speaker 5 (27:36):
Not three beat Texas? Who will be Archie?
Speaker 4 (27:38):
May gonna be Archie man about five begins? I want'
gonna be Archie Mannings to the same mean Texas A
five began.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Arch Archie. They're all gonna take the l on Saturday,
hunt John. That's right, We're gonna beat John. We're gonna
beat the entire Manning family, all of them. Pull them
out there. We'll run through all of them, the women
and children. That's right.
Speaker 5 (28:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
And we did and weded be Archie Manning tightly miss
Tiffy nine to ten in the late sixties.
Speaker 2 (28:06):
I remember that game. What you do?
Speaker 3 (28:09):
No, I don't know, yeah, but I believe John Short
sounds like John does.
Speaker 4 (28:13):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And we never talked about this, and
we will be armored tonight. And volleyball that.
Speaker 2 (28:20):
Ain't gonna be on radio, I don't think show John.
Speaker 1 (28:23):
There are a couple of games that will be on
the radio this year. I don't know those off the
top of my head, but uh, it's been fun watching
them this year. They're definitely gonna have a shot at
another national championship.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
Yes, yes, indeedy. And we lost to Indiana and Soccer
two to one last night, and then we haven't brought
that up. Yeah, word about that?
Speaker 2 (28:44):
Yeah, Billy, you hadn't brought that up.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
I've been focused on the Lexington Sporting Club soccer team
and Speedy who hasn't scored a goal in three years. John,
That's really what I'm that I was worried about the
last thirty four hours.
Speaker 4 (28:56):
Okay, and also nothing. How do we doing on rugby
this year? Because we wanted championship twenty twenty four? Have
we doing on our rugby team this year?
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Yeah, Billy? How we doing in rugby?
Speaker 1 (29:05):
Yea, you know, I'm not sure, John, Usually we need
you for those updates. So can you find out and
call us back tomorrow?
Speaker 4 (29:12):
Well, well, here on, I'm a here on the news,
so I don't don't know what's going on.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Well you know what that makes?
Speaker 1 (29:19):
That makes three of us then, yes, you see, that's
why he's the perfect co host here on the Free
shows John doesn't even know what's going on. Sometimes good
to hear from you. We love you, John, Thanks for calling.
Speaker 2 (29:29):
It there you go? All right?
Speaker 1 (29:33):
Yes, indeedy John has been calling it a day one
as well. Speaking of assistant coaches, interesting thing coming out
of the Boston Celtics yesterday where Celtics head coach Joe
Missoula added a twist to the annual media pick up
basketball game. Instead of the media playing each other, the
media took on the coaches, and Joe Missoula and the
(29:54):
assistant coaches, who comprised up of former D one players
and NBA players.
Speaker 2 (29:58):
Did not let up. They beat the meat fifty seven
to four.
Speaker 3 (30:02):
Oh wow, Well you know what, Now, that's something I
would like to see happen here at Kentucky Coaches versus media,
Like who would our starting five media be?
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Now listen to this, Shannon, though you say that, but
UK assistant coach McLean tweeted yesterday coaches versus KSR would
feed families with a couple of emojis. So we have
the assistant men's basketball coach, one of them at the
University of Kentucky saying that they want to see coaches
versus KSR basketball game.
Speaker 3 (30:32):
Well, we got enough guys plus one, right, we have
one sub Yeah, the question is who's going to be
our guy on the bench. We got to have our
six man coming off the bench.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:41):
You know, I'm overconfident in many things, but basketball is
not one of them. I mean, I'm not going to
go out there and dribble like Stanley on the office, Shannon.
I can be a great energy guy, maybe set some picks,
but you don't want me shooting that row.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
Well, clearly we're putting Matt at the five. You just
the guard. I guess, Pope. You see, he's got to
be our our height. Yeah, we gotta put him down low.
Speaker 3 (31:03):
We drew at the four. I guess either you or
I could be a three, three or two. We could
just and then Ryan's our point guard. We gotta we
gotta be good defense. I think Mario is the point.
Mario's the point guard. Somebody's gonna come off the bench.
That would be you. You're coming off the bench. You're
our six man. You could be six man of the Year.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
So that's fine.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
You know, Ryan was has done these camps in the past.
He's gonna get gassed pretty early. So we're gonna you know,
I'll sub in for Ryan after maybe two trips up
and down the court. Yeah, how do you think you're
gonna fare on the wing?
Speaker 2 (31:33):
I mean that's most athletic guys. You're gonna be on
the wing. Well, I'm just gonna stand in my spot
and shoot. Stand in my corner.
Speaker 3 (31:39):
Wow, I'm gonna stand right there in my corner. We'll
put a little X with you know, tape on the floor.
I'll stand there and just feed me the ball.
Speaker 2 (31:45):
Just feed me.
Speaker 3 (31:46):
I'll get the shots in. We'll knock down. So we're
gonna be a three point shooting team.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
How are we ever? These shots gonna be a three
point shot?
Speaker 1 (31:52):
Hopefully Drew could play some stretch four. We're just gonna
rely on Matt to get rebounds. I mean he's you know,
since he's got the wrist injury. Shannon, I don't know
if the jump shot there, that's true.
Speaker 3 (32:01):
Rebound and kick it out, Although do you think he
would take it? Would he be a ball hog?
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Do you think? Well?
Speaker 1 (32:07):
I don't know if he'd want to shoot very much,
so he'd I think he'd passed the rock.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
Well, you wouldn't have to shoot, he would be rebounding
and then you know you have to go for like
a layup.
Speaker 1 (32:15):
Right, well, you know, you miss a put you miss
a put back, and then your confidence goes away pretty quick.
Speaker 3 (32:22):
So if Mark Pope is guarding you, you're not gonna
get a put back. You're gonna get your shot jacked
into the teep squadded.
Speaker 1 (32:28):
Yeah, like exactly, it's gonna it's gonna escalate pretty quickly.
Just you know, Iso Mario maybe, yeah, just clear out,
let him do his thing. The radio show teams a
lot different than the website team too, because I mean
you got baller Jack Pilgrim over on the website. Sure,
maybe they can hold up a little bit more than us.
But put Tyler out there, miss Tyler Thompson.
Speaker 2 (32:47):
Yeah, Tyler Thompson. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:49):
So if you see any of the videos of the
Celtics coaches versus the Celtics media, it is probably what
every coaching staff across the country wants to do their
to their media.
Speaker 2 (32:59):
At least once.
Speaker 3 (33:00):
It's right, Humble them a little bit, you know, maybe
they'll get some some easier questions next time, maybe they'll
get some respect to know how it is to go
out there and compete on a basketball court.
Speaker 2 (33:09):
Well, they've definitely gotten to question.
Speaker 1 (33:11):
Yeah, they've definitely gotten a question once over the year
like you don't play ball, Like why are you asking
me this? You don't know what it means to actually
be a ball player. Let me show you what it means.
Let me hit this three in your face, and then
let us win fifty seven to four.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
Well, that was like the reporter during the football game
last week. I can't remember which coach it was, but
she was asking him, so you need to change your
game plan?
Speaker 5 (33:33):
Right?
Speaker 3 (33:34):
You know when media try to question the game plan
of a team and then you go out there and
you play them and you get humbled a little bit
when you get beat that bad, you know, maybe it
would stop some of those those questions that you get
from the media.
Speaker 1 (33:47):
And the coaches, Like you think, yeah, yeah, we're losing.
We do need to change the game plan. I don't
need a mansplained to me by somebody that's in the media.
So a funny story there. Maybe you're in some pain

on the KISR pre show, Shannon want to get back
to the phones, But we got the announcement yesterday that
Fear Factor is making a return in January of twenty
twenty six. Johnny Knoxville will replace Joe Rogan as the host,
(36:27):
and there will be a new twist. A group of
strangers will be dropped off on a remote location. They
will live together, and then they will continue to do
the challenges that we know and love. The preview trailer
was a cockroach smoothie that somebody had to drink.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
Good grief.
Speaker 1 (36:41):
Did they try to bring that back with Ludacris several times? Yeah,
Ludacris was a host. I even think Johnny Knoxville was
like a co host at one point. Joe Rogan even
came back.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:52):
I used to watch it, but it was just like man,
it was always the second stunt or second challenge that
was discussing instead eat something terrible, and I couldn't watch
that part of it, But the other parts of it
were interesting. I guess to say the least. I can't
believe they're actually bringing it back though.
Speaker 1 (37:08):
Or they'd stick their head in a clear container with
snake sent it or like that Mouse Fighters.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
How much do they win? Fifty thousand dollars or something
like that.
Speaker 1 (37:15):
I don't remember. Maybe the reboot gives them more. But
then like the third stunt, you're like on top of
a car that's like moving and you've got to jump
from one car to another.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
It was always just bizarre, right.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
But special place in my childhood, a little fear factor,
and maybe I'll give it a try. In January of
twenty twenty six, let's go back to the fund, Shannon,
who's up next?
Speaker 2 (37:36):
All right, let's go to Drew. Hey, Drew, Hey, Drew,
what's up?
Speaker 5 (37:41):
Hey, guys. It's been a while. My work schedule has changed,
and so I've become a podcast listener mostly, but I
am a day one caller. Actually was the second call
you all ever took a thousand shows ago, and so
I wanted to congratulate you guys on the thousand show
means you're coming up on your birthday, because it was
actullent on my birthday October eighteenth when I called in,
(38:03):
So congratulations happy birthday. And I have one question. How
has this affected your personal relationships in your life? Since
you all have gotten a lot more notoriety, how's it
affected maybe your girlfriends, your one now whive we're getting
close to, I'm sure, and also just your best friends?
How's it affected it?
Speaker 2 (38:24):
Thanks for the call, Drew. We appreciate it. Thank you
being for being a Day one caller. Drew.
Speaker 1 (38:28):
We remember you and we love you. Shannon, how has
working with me affected your fame?
Speaker 2 (38:35):
Not at all?
Speaker 3 (38:36):
What do you mean it's affected my paycheck a little
bit better? You know, being able to get some endorsements
on this show. I think that's helped a lot. Sure,
but no, it has helped. You know, it's also helped
me with radio because you know, before KSR, I was
on the FM side of radio, and that is completely
different when you're talking in and out of music, and
(38:57):
you know, on the FM side of things, when you
run out of things to say, you go, Okay, here's
Metallica over here.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
It's a lot different. You got an hour to fill.
Speaker 3 (39:04):
Go here's the microphone, here's the on button, Turn it on,
start talking. Try to fool yourself that you're going to
entertain people, and you know, do it in a way
that people are going to stick around and listen to
you for a solid hour. So I think it's you know,
maybe better at radio doing this, just being able to
jump on here for an hour every day and talk
about whatever the hot topic is the day with you, Billy.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Yeah, I think that, no doubt. It's given me an
appreciation for radio. I've always wanted to be in radio,
But when it's a July random day, you've got nothing
to talk about and you've got an hour to fill,
it can really test you and your resolve. And we've
gotten much better at that over the years, Shannon. I
used to write down everything I wanted to say and
then like read it off like notes, and now it's
(39:47):
just you know, kind of a couple of bullet points
and then we just kind of riff That whole first
segment is never planned either. It's always just like whatever
we were talking about right before the show started. And
I think there's a genuineness to that, don't you think.
Speaker 3 (39:59):
Oh yeah, yeah for sure. And then for me, you know,
I actually get to, you know, say what I want
to say always. The case, I guess are sometimes I
don't get to get it out without getting interrupted. So
on this show, I get most of it out without
being interrupted.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
The callers too, you know. I think that's a lot
of callers have appreciated calling in. We've also had one
person patiently waiting on the phone line, and that's Jake
that's calling in.
Speaker 2 (40:20):
Good morning, Jake, what's up?
Speaker 4 (40:23):
Good morning? Good morning, gentlemen.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
How are you morning, Jake doing good?
Speaker 5 (40:29):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (40:29):
Uh? Who Shannon? Who do you think would do the
other person's job better?
Speaker 6 (40:33):
You?
Speaker 5 (40:34):
Or or Billy?
Speaker 4 (40:36):
If if you guys could say change schedules, who do
you think would do better? So, in other way, Billy's
got the games?
Speaker 2 (40:43):
Yeah, In other words, Billy's got the game. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (40:46):
So basically I would just have to like do this
hour then go sit on my couch.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
There is That's what I think I would do. I
would be really good at doing Billy's job. I would
be doing that would be great at that.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
You can you can take the eleven hour game day, Shannon,
or post games with Matt at two in the morning,
when you haven't been able to go to the bathroom
for eight hours.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
You're telling me you can handle that, of course I could.
Speaker 3 (41:07):
Yeah, do you think you could do Q Man, those
four shows a day are already that's true.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
You tell them, Jake, thanks to that great kid to
hear by.
Speaker 1 (41:15):
That's the thing I've heard the most on this show,
maybe over the one thousand episodes, is that Shannon's four
or five shows a day.
Speaker 3 (41:21):
I'm just saying, like Matt was saying yesterday on the show,
that he's going to be, you know, doing all these
shows and everything. I was like, well, I do that
every day. And his argument was, well, yeah, you're playing music.
Well that's true. But my point was you could turn
on the radio basically any time between nine in the
morning and seven in the afternoon and hear my voice.
Speaker 2 (41:36):
That was That was my point. Listen, I'm on your side,
you know.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
But Matt also did bring up voice trackings a lot
easier than filling in you know, dead air.
Speaker 3 (41:43):
But you know what, can you do a great jo?
Not getting an argument for me on that, That wasn't
my point. But nonetheless, I digress promo code KSR get

Speaker 2 (41:54):

Speaker 1 (41:57):
It's been a fun thousand episodes. Buddy, ready for it,

Speaker 2 (42:00):

Speaker 1 (42:02):
