Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
It is the KSR pre Show, Monday, October twentieth. I
am Shannon the Dude here in Louisville on a cold
day across Kentucky. Give us a call the Clark's Puppet
Shop phone line at eight five nine and two eight
zero twenty two eighty seven be our whiskey thief call
of the day. KSR pre Show is brought to you
by Italics Fine Italian Dining in Lexington. Text line is

(00:21):
five O two two six five six six five six. Yeah, Billy,
I feel like it went from summer on Saturday where
it was like eighty degrees, and then I walked outside
yesterday and it was freezing, Like we just skipped over fall.
We went straight from summer to winter. It is chilly
out there this morning. How are you and Lexington?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
I'm doing fine, Shannon. It always happens around Halloween for me.
That's when the golf season ends. Usually if we kind
of flip that switch, we fall back on the clocks.
I'm sure that's coming up soon, but I'm doing much
better this morning now that that stupid Annabel doll is
out of my seting.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Oh my gosh, see, I've tried to tell you, guys,
get it out. I tried to tell you annabel is cursed.
Everybody knows that, but some people that doubt it. Some
people then locked it. Some people Matt Jones likes to
get on the radio and openly mock Annabelle the Doll
on public airwaves. And we saw what happened. Jalen Lowe

(01:12):
went down with the shoulder injury. We'll get into that
a little bit later on, Billy. I think, though, where
we need to start is with Kentucky football.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Okay, we'll get to that.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
By the way, how are you you're doing RS so
you get a stye on your eye?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:25):
Yeah, I have a sty developing on my upper eyelid
on my right eye.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Yeah, you know, happened just battle and through it did
somebody fart on a pillow and you slept on.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
That's pink eye. Thank you very much. I've already been
asked twice. You're actually the third person to ask me
if I have pink eye. Yeah, uh no, this is
just me, I guess rubbing my eyes because I work
so hard.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Shannon, Oh, such a hard worker. You got a stye?
I got?

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I got?

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Yeah, something infected on my eyelids. But these are painful kind.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Of so I hate them.

Speaker 5 (01:54):
Man.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah, when I work contacts, I would get them all
the time because you know, your eye gets dirty, or
you know, you put contacts in your eye and you
got maybe uh something on your fingers. Then all of
a sudden, you know, you get a stye and they
are Man, if you touch them, it hurts.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
You know.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
When I was a kid, I would get these two
and for some reason, my dad would always take a
gold ring and rub it on my eye like that
was going to do something. I'm like that, that doesn't work.
That doesn't do that. Later today, are you not a thing?

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Okay, don't do it.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
I'm just saying, like my childhood, when things went wrong,
they didn't take me to the doctor. They go, here,
let's rub this gold ring on your eye. That will
get rid of the stye. You'll be good. And it
just hurt.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
It hurt to do that because you're putting like a
gold ring and you're putting pressure on that sensitive part
of your eye that's infected.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
And it never did anything. And then like if I
had an earache or we're not going to the doctor,
just blow smoke in it. It'll be fine, that's it, Like,
what is that going to do?

Speaker 5 (02:49):
It?

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Didn't do anything.

Speaker 3 (02:50):
Rub a little dirt on it. Maybe that'll help. I
feel like we're losing some of these remedies to time
as people think, say it's not true or not and
then just don't write it down her catalog on the internet.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
Exactly.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
We have the Internet now that can dispelled, you know,
like myths, It can debunk myths. You know, back in
the eighties you didn't have the Internet. So it's just like,
all right, I was told to do this. Let's rub
a gold ring on it. That'll take care of it.
Can we rub some gold rings on Kentucky football for god? Hell,
try to fix it.

Speaker 3 (03:19):
Break the glass in case of emergency.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Oh my god, Well we should have broken the glass
a long time ago. Kentucky loses in overtime against Texas
sixteen to thirteen. But Billy, I mean, I gotta give
Kentucky some credit here. I know it's a frustrating loss,
but I thought this was going to be an absolute blowout.
And by the numbers, Kentucky dominated this game the entire

(03:42):
way total pass total yards three ninety five to one
seventy nine. They dominated Texas gaining first downs twenty six
to eight. Kentucky ran eighty six plays, Texas ran fifty five.
And even with those numbers, if I just said here's teammate,
here's team B, teammate had all these big numbers. Team

(04:03):
B had the fewer numbers. You're gonna say, teammate wins
every time, right, not Kentucky. Though, when you put Kentucky
in there, somehow they find a way to lose a
game that they absolutely dominate it. And you know, the
game goes into overtime and you have to feel good
about it at least going into overtime with Texas.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Right, But Kentucky decides.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
To run the ball up the middle on third down,
fourth down, you're at the one foot line.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
I'm not mad about going forward on fourth down. I
know a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Are going, well, you should kick the field go We
can look back in hindsight, it's always twenty twenty on
this Billy, you haven't won a home game, and it
feels like six years you got a chance to punch
it in from the wooden foot line.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
I don't have a problem going forward on fourth down, Billy.

Speaker 2 (04:48):
I do have a problem with the play they called
to go for it, do something cret don't run it
up the middle against Texas defensive line. We already saw
what happened on third down. Try to jump over the line,
didn't work, and then we go right back to it
on fourth down again.

Speaker 1 (05:01):
The reason I'm okay with going for it is.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Your defense stopped Texas the entire game. So if you
feel like you can punch it in right there and
score seven, you gotta feel like you won the game
right there. If you kick a field goal, sure you
get points on the board, but then Texas is going
to come right back and kick a field goal. They've
got one of the best kickers in college football. So
now you're right back to where you were. So you
have to ask yourself the question, do you have a

(05:26):
better chance of winning the game by going into a
second overtime and starting with the ball you know, back
at the what do they start at the thirty twenty five?

Speaker 3 (05:35):
Twenty five thirty?

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Yeh okay, So are you better off with that situation
or be in right there at the goal line getting
it in put six on the board. Seven, Now you
really put the pressure on Texas.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
So I mean, I could see the argument so.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
What is your thoughts on on going forward on fourth down?

Speaker 3 (05:54):
I can see the argument just because I have great
your defense played. Archie Manning was ass Oh he is
hold really bad and miss some simple throws to the
point where I almost feel bad for the guy and
his mental having all those expectations. Paul finebum coming calling
him better than Tim Tebow before the season even started,
and I mean, you got to think that fan base
is out on him. But your defense was phenomenal. You

(06:16):
hit on some really great stats. But here's another one.
Texas only had two first downs in the second half.
I mean, Kentucky's defense completely allowed Kentucky to stay in
the game. And so that's why I think there is
an argument to be had that maybe you kick the
field goal and you let your defense, you know, do
their thing, But are you gonna have a better chance
than first and goal at the three yard line? I

(06:36):
mean that theoretically should be your opportunity to score and
then have your defense hold strong and then win that game.
So I'm with you. I'm fine with going for it.
But it was it was almost poetic how the final
drive ended for Kentucky, just like the first one. I mean,
we had a quarterback sneak on third and two, and
then they're not able to get the first down on

(06:57):
fourth and down, and then the last drive ends like that.
It was just really frustrating because I bought back in Jannet.
I began to believe again. I mean, in the second
half Kentucky looked like they should have won that game.
And the stats that you rattled off the three ninety
five to one, seventy nine total yards in the eighteen
more first downs than Texas, that's insane. I do think

(07:19):
I've ever seen a game like that, never, so it
was unbelievable. Some puzzling play calls at times. I'm sure
Bush Hampden's going to get a lot of heat, but
Mark Stoops just defeated. It felt like in the postgame
press conference, I don't know if you heard any of
his comments or the tone that he had, but like

(07:39):
even reference like if we need to start having these conversations,
then it is what it is, I mean, almost a
realization of his situation, and that maybe the first time
I've heard Mark Stoops kind of almost succumbed to that
realization of what's been happening. Instead of the mantra of
let's get back to work. I mean he mentioned that
the guys are doing the right things in the locker room.
I mean they're hurt the right way, you know, guys

(08:02):
stepping up leaders, saying things need to change. But obviously,
I mean that was your opportunity, right, I mean, yep,
that was it and you let it fall through. And
that is indicative of what is it? Nine straight SEC
losses now for Kentucky, in straight losses and against Power
four teams. I mean, this slide just has been tough

(08:23):
to watch, and I completely bought back in. I was
starting to believe in Mark Stoops in Kentucky again. I mean,
maybe you beat Texas and then you look ahead at
the schedule that has Billy Napier gone at Florida, Hugh
Freeze possibly leaving Auburn.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
It's like, but no, no, it's Kentucky football right in
a nutshell. They get you to start believing that can happen,
and they just pull the rug out from underneath of you.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
And maybe that makes me naive after what we've seen
all season. But the better team loss last this weekend,
the better team lost, and that's crazy considering Texas was
the preseason number one. You had the preseason number one
on the ropes. You had a Manning come into Lexington
and should have left with a loss. But instead you'll

(09:10):
lose in one of the toughest tougher games to swallow
I think in a long time.

Speaker 2 (09:14):
Yeah, you know, I know they tried. I think it
was a play action there on second down. But when
you try to run up the middle on third down
and it clearly wasn't going anywhere, you got to try
something else. You can't just go up the middle again.
I mean, tush, push, do anything. But you know, if
you're gonna go up the middle, don't just hand it
off and go up the middle that way. It wasn't
going to work. I would have been fine trying the

(09:34):
play action again. I feel like Cutter could have, you know,
rolled out and maybe had a guy open. If not,
I feel like he could have gotten into the end
zone from that for from a foot out.

Speaker 1 (09:43):
I mean, come on, you've got to score there.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
And that's why I'm okay with going for it, but
not just handing the ball up off and running it
up the.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Middle against a great defensive front in Texas. I mean,
if they have any strength, it's that defensive line. And
you know Seth McGowan, who had came back from the
hospital to continue to play for Kentucky, who was also
wearing a gold watch at one point during the game
chan and loved that. Yeah, you know that atil money
coming in. I think they used to wear g shocks
on the field. Now that's gold rolexes with diamonds on it.

(10:13):
But he didn't get to carry late in the game.
It was Daldell twice. You know, hindsight's twenty twenty. We
can go back and guess everything. But yeah, just the
how not creative some of those play calls were late,
it just makes that pill even harder. So well, let's just.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
Talk about for a minute how Cutter Bowley dominated arch Manning.
You know, arch Manning was the darling of college football.
He had all these talking heads nationally talking about how
great arch Manning is going to be. And I think
Paul Finebam basically declared arch Manning is the greatest football
player to ever play football.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
And he has been awful this year.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
You know, at some point you gotta have the conversation
that maybe this guy needs to come back another year.
Maybe this guy isn't going to be a number one
draft pick after all, maybe not even a first rounder
the way he's been playing. He was for twenty seven,
Cutter Bowley thirty one for thirty nine, Cutter just outplayed them.
Cutter to me, looked like what we've been hearing about

(11:08):
in practice all off season leading up.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
You know we're talking.

Speaker 2 (11:12):
You heard Stoops talking about how the gap between Calzada
and Cutter Bowley was razor thin, and you had a
real quarterback balt quarterback battle between the two. And to
finally see Cutter just have a breakout game on Saturday,
I think really shows what the coaching staff was seeing
in the offseason.

Speaker 1 (11:31):
He's got a ton of potential. In a great game
against the tough Texas team coming in.

Speaker 3 (11:36):
Yeah, no doubt. Do you have to come away from
that game feeling optimistic about Cutter. I think at times
he took some bad sacks. He had an interception he
probably should have thrown away instead of trying to maybe
make a play out of it. That's gonna come. He's
gonna learn to do that better in situations when he
obviously plays more. I think it got to a point
where Kentucky didn't trust him at times because with no

(11:58):
timeouts before the half and before the end of the
fourth quarter, they wouldn't let him throw to the boundary.
Maybe they think that he's going to take a sack
and Kentucky has to get points there. Maybe that's the reasoning,
But that's my main takeaway when it comes to the
positives of here. It Cutters the guy. I mean, Cutter
is the guy. And if you can keep him in Lexington,
no matter who the coach is, he's got a really
bright future. And if he's on another SEC team that's

(12:20):
got a competent, more competent, rostering coaching staff, maybe they're
battling for a playoff spot. But I've seen some really
good strides from him. I mean think Shannon two punt
returns won that game for Texas.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it's all you know, the fill position
from the punts is really what the difference in the game.

Speaker 3 (12:38):
Was because Texas's offense can couldn't move the ball. I mean,
Brad White had a master class of a game throw
along how bad arch Manning was, and that was a
really impressive performance by the defense. Felt like the crowd
was there, they were getting into it. Ocho Cinco was
in the student section with Mario.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Mario was out there interviewing Ocho Cinco.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
How about that? I mean, what a weak or so
Mario's had with John Wall and Ocho Senko. I mean
he just get into the thick of it and got
the interview, and his interview went viral a little bit. Yeah,
but you know, after a little bit of an embarrassment
in the middle eight, it kind of reminded you that
this still is Kentucky football and you're thirteen with stoops
and now where do you go from here? Shannon? I mean,

(13:18):
do you feel like the sentiment's changed it all after
this game?

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Probably not. I think the fan base is still where
they're at. It's still a loss. You know, Kentucky has
had games where they've been in and in the game.
But I feel like the frustrating way that you lose
even turns fans off even more, almost even more so
that if you were to come out and just get
blown out. I mean, does that make you feel any
better that you lost the way that you lost against Texas?

(13:42):
Does that give you any more hope? Are you more
optimistic about Tennessee coming in next Saturday? Do you think
that maybe that's not going to be a blowout because
you hung with Texas. I'm not convinced.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
Well, there's some truth to what you're saying. You shouldn't
have moral victories in your thirteen right, especially when you're
paying for your players. Now it's and it's just a
little different than it used to be where you could
take a loss like this and say, hey, we're building
towards in the right direction. No, you've got to produce
results now. And that was a winnable game, that was
a bad Texas team that you had on the ropes

(14:14):
and completely blew it.

Speaker 2 (14:15):
A fop to nine and two twenty two eighty seven
will take your calls. Just the fact that Kentucky hung
with Texas took them to overtime make you feel any
more optimistic about what's ahead for the rest of the season.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
Let us know. We'll take a break. We'll be right back.

Speaker 2 (14:29):
It is the KSR pre Show, all right, It is
the KSR pre Show. Shade of the Dude, Billy Rutlie.
We'll get to the phones in just a minute. Eight
five to nine and two eighth twenty two eighty seven
talking about Billy sty and his eye and uh, you know,
maybe you could have been better off if you had styes
in both us so you didn't have to watch that
game on Saturday. But somebody suggested on the text line

(14:50):
that you slept too close to the crack.

Speaker 1 (14:51):
That's why you have a step.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Yeah, Billy's sleeping too close to the crack. You know.
People are saying, don't rub your eye. I know it hurts.
I'm just gonna look for gold ring and do my best,
and if something happens, I'm just gonna say Shannon told
me to do it.

Speaker 2 (15:04):
You know when I said that, when I was a kid,
I didn't go to the doctor a lot because I
had home remedies. It reminds me of something that happened
to me when I was like in fourth grade. Did
you ever have mechanical pencils?

Speaker 6 (15:16):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (15:16):
Yeah, yeah, Well, somehow, I don't know how I did it.
You know, kids do dumb things.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Somehow I stabbed a mechanical pencil lead into my skin
and it was like stuck down in there, right because
somehow I got down in there, and instead of taking
me to the doctor, my grandfather just pulled out his
pocket knife.

Speaker 1 (15:34):
And was ready to do surgery on me right there,
ready to just cut it out, and I was scared
to death.

Speaker 2 (15:38):
I was like, no, you can't do that, and he
was like, come on, let me get that out of there.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
I'm like, no, I think eventually I do.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Here he was basically basically cutting the tip of my
finger off, trying to get lead out of my you know,
my finger, and I thought, you know, as a kid,
you believed anything, thought you'd get lead poisoning or something
if he didn't get it out. In reality, I probably
could have just left it there, and I think my
skin would have eventually just forced it out. But yeah,
that was what was going on in my house when
I was a kid. I was there was like surgery
with pocket knives and all kinds of weird stuff.

Speaker 3 (16:06):
But you didn't you knew that pocket knife wasn't sterile.
I mean it still probably had some squirrel guts and
maybe a little cardboard packaging on it still and he's
trying to dig it into your skin.

Speaker 1 (16:15):
Oh he didn't care.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
Funny, this is the same guy was telling you like
when he had uh, you know, like pain in his joints,
he would just take out the WD forty and just
spray it right.

Speaker 3 (16:24):
Into him, telling that is these are the things we're
losing to time like these these old home remedies from
Harvey Rest in peace. That would you know, putting the
rosemary oil in the belly button. I don't know if
web MD is giving you these same recommending.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
No, absolutely, we didn't have well web Md, Hey, this
is disappointed. If he had a sore throat.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
He would just take a big hunk of that vix
vapor rub and just swallow it.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
He was supposed to do that.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
The doctor is never gonna recommend you do that.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Bro.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
You know what, he lived into his mid eighties and
he was just fine, and that that's not what killed him.
It wasn't that all right? Eight five, nine, eight twenty
two eighty seven. We'll go back to the Pones in

All right, let's go to the phones to talk to Scott.
You're up first, Hey Scott.

Speaker 7 (18:03):
Hey, good morning, gentlemen, Good morning. I just wanted to
tell you that luckily I didn't get to go to
the game Saturday. I stay home and dog watch for
my daughter, So I got to thank him for that.
But I just I don't know about this team. You know,
everybody's talking about Cutter had a big coming out party
and all that he didn't throw for that many yards,
three for zero touchdowns. I just don't see it that.

(18:25):
I still think we've got to go out. We've got
to get rid of our offensive coordinator for sure. I
don't know if we're going to fire Stoops or not,
but Bush Honden has to go. He's responsible for those
offensive play calls. He must go. And I think we
need to go out and recruit another quarterback to have
somebody there, because who knows if Cutter is going to
be able to stay healthy next year, just like Cal's
out of this year. That's all I got to say.

Speaker 1 (18:43):
Thank you, all right, Scott, Well, first of all, you
say it didn't throw for many yards. He threw for
two hundred and fifty eight yards.

Speaker 2 (18:48):
That's pretty damn impressed, what I think, especially for a
guy that wasn't supposed to be your starting quarterback at
the beginning of the year. Second of all, it's against
a really good Texas defense. So I've got nothing at
all negative just about Cutter Bowley. Did he make you
know a couple of decisions that were questionable? Sure, but
again for a guy who's you know, only on is
what fifth start since it's been a fourth s I

(19:10):
mean if you go back to last year he started
against Lobell, right, yeah, so I mean you know I'm
not going to knock him at all. The play calling, yeah,
I do have problems with that. Again, the fourth down
trying to run it up the middle was just stupid.
I know you're on one foot line. You got to
try something more creative than that.

Speaker 3 (19:25):
Yeah, I'm with you. I think Cutter did play a
good game and got better as the game progressed. But
he's not wrong in saying you need to recruit another quarterback.
Tell me a year in which Kentucky starter played the
entire year and they didn't have to go to the backup.
It just does not happen a.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Lot because yeh quarterback of the future though, right, I
mean this is.

Speaker 3 (19:42):
Right third, Yes, but you should always have a backup
Ponatowski coming in that dual threat guy. If Stoops is
still here, that seems to be the backup plan right now.
You know, offensive coordinators, we've been making scapegoats for years, right,
whether it be Eddie gran or Shannon Dawson or I
mean even Liam Cohen when he was having success. But

(20:03):
Rich Skangarillo, I mean, that's been a revolving door. How
long before he stopped blaming the offensive coordinators start playing
the head coach? You know, I'm not sure. But at
the same time, Bush Hampton has not worked out, and
the fact that they kept him for continuity's sake is
not a good reason either. Jay Bolwaer is somebody that
probably needs to answer some questions after the special team's
plays over the last couple of days. Eric Woolford in

(20:24):
the offensive line, but Shai has Pete recovered on a
fumble this time though?

Speaker 1 (20:27):
That's right, Yeah, he's one for two.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
She has Shai is. I'm sorry, whatever however.

Speaker 2 (20:31):
You Daniel writes, Since says the reason you kick the
field going over Thomas because in the second overtime, who
gets the ball first is flip. That's correct, he says,
So Texas would have been on offense first, Kentucky would
have had the ball, knowing what they needed to.

Speaker 1 (20:44):
Do to get the win.

Speaker 2 (20:46):
Sure, I mean, but then I guess you can't question
Mark Stup's decision to go for it if you want
to play like that. But I don't think you play
scared in that situation. I think if you're Kentucky, lay
it all out on the line. I'm fine. Again, you
go for it on fourth down right there at a
foot away. You should be able to get the ball
into the end zone. And two tries and they didn't.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
Yeah, that's the benefit of you know, winning the coin
toss and having your defense out first. If you do
go to that second overtime, you do know what your
offense needs to do to win the game if you
want to do that. But at the same time, I'm
with you. You get to the three yard line first
and goal, this is your opportunity to score.

Speaker 1 (21:21):
Let's go to Dennis say, Dennis.

Speaker 4 (21:25):
Totally disagree. You got to take if you get football
first and over time, you got to score points. I'm sorry.
I mean, your defense is played the rearings off all
right long. You don't put your defense in the position
where three points is want to beat you. So I'm
gonna disagree with that. And just I'm with the band house.

(21:47):
You just don't do that.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
I just don't want to get it too.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
A field goal kick in competition with Texas, who has
one of the best kickers in the country. I don't
think that you're gonna win the game that way. So
at some point you're gonna have to score a touchdown
to win. And my point was, when you're a foot
away with two chance, you're not gonna get a better chance.

Speaker 4 (22:01):
Problem is, the problem is you're you're going up gainst
maybe the best defensive line in the country. You've already
in the first half, you already lost. You went up
forward on fourth downstead of kicking a field go that
field go. That they went forward in the fourth in
the first half would have been different from football game.
They've never went over time and they just kicked the Yeah,

(22:21):
you've already done that once. You are trying that once
in the first.

Speaker 2 (22:24):
Half, Right work, Thanks Dennis. You gotta let you go
because we're up against it. But yeah, if you do that,
it's a completely different issue, and that is a completely
different conversation to have.

Speaker 1 (22:32):
We'll be right back. It is the KSR pre Show.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
All right, welcome back. It is the KSR Pre Show.
Big thanks to everybody who joined us out at forty
six Solutions this past Friday. Had a lot of fun
out there with that show. As we always do. They
always have the uh Ryan lemon like best doves running
I guess highlight reil running on the big screens behind
us as we do the show.

Speaker 4 (22:54):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
But we had a great credit out there and then
of course after that, we uh went over to white
with the Nest.

Speaker 1 (23:01):
That's right, Billy, you joined me.

Speaker 2 (23:03):
Mario was there, Ryan was there, and we want to
remind you that when you go to White Castle anytime
between now and November the thirtieth, round up your meal.
When you do that, you're going to help out the Nest.
And we got to meet the folks there that were
with the Nest. A great group of people there that
came out and hung out with us, had a lot
of fun. But if you go to White Castle, round
up your meal and those extra sense goes straight towards

(23:23):
the Nest, which is a local nonprofit that helps families
in crisis, and it means you're helping parents escape domestic violence,
providing counseling and giving kids a safe place to grow.
And last year they did incredible things. They had thousands
of families that they helped out who had nowhere else
to turn and every little bit adds up, So check
it out when you go to White Castle, make sure
you round up and help out the nest. All right,

(23:45):
So we'll go back to the phones in just a minute.
Joe writes in and says, here's a scenario for you
this Saturday against Tennessee. Ten seconds left, Kentucky's down twenty
four to nineteen, ball on the balls one yard line.
They've scouted Kentucky. They know that we like to run
it up the middle. They know the run up the
middle is happening. But the Cats fake the run up
the middle, sweep it out to the right and score.

(24:08):
Just kidding, we already know Kentucky's gonna run it up
the middle get stopped.

Speaker 3 (24:11):
Well, what am I still asleep? A dream where you
put it there?

Speaker 1 (24:16):
Yeah, I could see that being the case. You know,
you got to get.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
More creative, and look for us to say that you've
got to be more creative in your play calling is
one thing. But when Ojo Sinko gets on with Shannon
Sharp on his podcast, you know, the guy who has
played in the NFL for years and says that Kentucky's
play calling is.

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Just draw, draw, draw.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
They run a couple of flats, but there's nothing creative
at all about the play calling that gives it a
lot of validity. You know, when I hear a guy
like Chad Johnson talking about it, it's one thing for
you and I to talk about it. When he says
the exact same thing that we're saying, there's some truth
to that.

Speaker 3 (24:49):
Yeah, And perception is reality a lot in a lot
of cases. And that is the perception of Kentucky football
right now, is that it's uncreative and maybe a little
bit you know, Key leaving because he needs an actual
offense to try to succeed in you know, he's had
a couple of touchdowns, maybe hasn't gotten the volume that
he wants in Nebraska. But you know, I figured that

(25:10):
we were cursed and the Annabell thing was real when
DJ Waller hurt himself in the pregame warm ups. I mean,
we've been waiting for one of Kentucky's best defensive players
to come back and then he gets hurt before the
game even starts, And that was just a demoralizing way
to start the game, along with that first drive. But
you know, credit Kentucky for fighting and being in that position.
They just couldn't finish, all right.

Speaker 2 (25:29):
So you mentioned Annabelle the doll. We talked about this
on Friday. Annabel if you don't know, is the doll
that was the inspiration behind the movies the Conjuring, and
she's cursed like everywhere she goes, people would just fall
down and break their ankles. And that's right, And then
you know the exactly to tell you do not want
to mess with this doll. We talked about her on Friday,

(25:50):
Matt got on the airwaves, he openly mocked Annabell and
next thing you know, we're at the Blue White game.
Jayalen Lowe goes down with a shoulder injury. It looked
like it was a dis location from what I've read.
He was on the ground visibly in pain. Good news
is though he was seen yesterday at the LOUISLL Pittsburgh
volleyball game, he wasn't in a sling and he was

(26:11):
said to be no put intended in good spirits. So
that's good that. You know he got hurt. But this
isn't gonna be a season ending injury. You know, maybe
he'll miss the first few games. I'm not really sure
what the timeline is on his return, but it could
have been a whole lot worse.

Speaker 1 (26:28):
But I'm telling you though that damn Dall is to blame.

Speaker 3 (26:29):
Billy it is it is Matt tempted fate with that one.
I think we should all blame him a little later,
Larry vad is reporting that the MRI on Low's shoulder
came back negative. That is, he is expected to, you know,
possibly come back for the Louisville game. I would not
expect him for the upcoming exhibition games.

Speaker 1 (26:49):
Don't don't even try it.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
But crisis averted, right, I mean as much injury issues
as Kentucky has had in years past. Just look at
last year. I mean, Lamont Butler a shoulder injury. Kerkcreesive
was somebody that got hurt early, Andrew Carr, Jackson, Robinson,
I mean, the going got tough last year. And the
way that he was squirming on the floor in pain,
I mean, I mean, my hands were up. This was

(27:13):
Annabelle had just ruined Kentucky's basketball season. But we've gotten
good news. We've seen him in good spirits, like you've
said since and so you know, exhale, that's right, Exhale,
that's right.

Speaker 1 (27:26):
It wasn't just a Kentucky player. Was Matt's favorite player?

Speaker 2 (27:28):
How many times you talking about jay En low and
how much he likes Jaalen Lowe, and Annabel talks she
was she honed in on Jalen Lowe specifically because she
knew that he was Matt's favorite player.

Speaker 3 (27:38):
That's why I'm convinced that they were listening, you know,
That's why you know, that's what Matt said impacted it.
And then also, this is not his shooting shoulder.

Speaker 2 (27:47):
That's the good thing, that's right. Yep, that's the other
thing that's really good. So anyway, you're right, it could
have been a whole lot worse. We're gonna miss him
for a few games, but we've talked about this Kentucky
depth that they have on the roster.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
They're going to be Okay.

Speaker 3 (27:58):
I don't even know what happened in the game. The
Blue White game doesn't matter. I think they like ended
it right after Mark Poe was like next basket wins.

Speaker 1 (28:06):
Yelloch Yellowvitch with the elam ending shot was.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
Just like, we're done, We're done.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
How's let's go to Will? Hey? Will? What's up?

Speaker 6 (28:16):
Hey? Good morning boys? Love your show?

Speaker 1 (28:18):
Thank you?

Speaker 3 (28:19):
Thank you?

Speaker 5 (28:20):
All right?

Speaker 8 (28:21):
So cool, Hey, So Saturday watch the game? Saw the loss. Honestly,
I have so much scar tissue. I didn't even feel it.
It's you know, that's just where we're at as far
as that goes.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
That's the that's the callous, the very callous fan base.

Speaker 1 (28:36):
We've seen it, seen it all over the years.

Speaker 8 (28:39):
Well I saw today and this is this is par
for the course. Texas had the least amount of yards
in a victory in thirty years?

Speaker 5 (28:48):
Is that?

Speaker 1 (28:49):
Is that right? The least amount of yard this morning.

Speaker 3 (28:54):
Against Kentucky or is that all time.

Speaker 5 (28:57):
No games history in thirty years?

Speaker 1 (29:00):
Yeah?

Speaker 8 (29:00):
Wow, yeah, so going back to nineteen ninety whatever.

Speaker 1 (29:04):
Jeez.

Speaker 4 (29:04):
So that's just very disappointing.

Speaker 8 (29:06):
I mean, but you know they're apathetic in Lexington.

Speaker 2 (29:09):
So you know that puts it all into perspective. Boy, yep,
thanks for the call.

Speaker 3 (29:14):
Will we appreciate it all we're doing stats. Corey Price
sent me a good one. Texas had a combined sixty
four yards of total offense and two first downs on
their four scoring drives on Saturday.

Speaker 1 (29:25):
That is incredible. I mean, yeah, four combined yards. You
got to give it up for Brad White.

Speaker 2 (29:29):
I mean that defense was locked in and you know
we've been talking about if you're going to win a game,
you got to hold a team to twenty points or less.

Speaker 1 (29:38):
They did that still didn't win.

Speaker 2 (29:40):
So now, Billy, I don't know, did we back it
up and say we got to hold the opponent to
twelve points or less? Because I mean, this is you know,
about what you would expect out of Kentucky's offense and
the defense.

Speaker 1 (29:51):
I mean, they were fighting for their life out there.

Speaker 2 (29:53):
They did everything they could to keep the game in
the teams and that's the type of game that you
have to win just because of Kentucky's offense being what
it is.

Speaker 3 (30:01):
No, they did more than enough and probably got helped
by just incompetent play by arch Manning. You've you've got
to score more points. And if maybe Bush Hampden can't
see that the third and two is not close enough
for a quarterback sneak, maybe he should come from down
off the booth and go to the field. How do
you get a sense of what's happening if you're not
on the sideline as a basketball Benny here talking little football.

(30:24):
What's the Is there that much of a benefit of
seeing the whole field and your players having to call
you on a phone if they want to talk to
you compared to being on the sideline, I just, you know, look,
change it up if it's not working.

Speaker 1 (30:35):
I've never been an offensive coordinator.

Speaker 2 (30:37):
I've never called a single football play except for backyard football.
So I'm not one to, you know, say if it's
better to be up there or not. I would think, though, Billy,
to your point, that if I were the OC, I
would want to be down there where I could have
a face to face conversation with my guys. But you know,
you see a lot of some offensive coordinators do it
and they make it work. For me, I would rather

(30:58):
be down there. So I guess it's one of those
to each their own. But clearly it's not working, you know.

Speaker 3 (31:03):
Exactly, like, try something else if it's it's it's not working.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Larry's up next, Hey Larry, Yeah.

Speaker 5 (31:10):
Hey, thanks for taking my call. I couldn't watch the
football game. I didn't do any good at Kiemlan. But
one thing I'll tell you this volleyball team we got.
We went yesterday today historic Memorial Kyle sim Uk versus
Florida and the Cats win, came back and won two
to three.

Speaker 4 (31:28):
Yep.

Speaker 5 (31:29):
And I tell you this coach Skinner is one of
the coolest cats I've ever seen. Coach he is smooth, smooth, smooth.

Speaker 1 (31:35):
We love Coach Skinner.

Speaker 6 (31:36):
Good day.

Speaker 3 (31:37):
Yep, yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Multiple time co host here on the pre show. Yeah,
Kentucky wins in five sets over Florida. Brooklyn delay eve
A Hudson both had double doubles. So yeah, he's got
We've been talking about it all season. He's got a
championship caliber team here. They've played it feels like everybody
in the top ten and beaten just about all of them.
So yeah, if you get a chance to get out
there and check out this Kentucky volleyball team and support them,

(31:59):
yeah yeah.

Speaker 3 (32:00):
I with as many top ten teams as this team
is beaten already. I mean, get ready for a playoff run.
I mean, if you want expectations for Kentucky basketball, I've
got some for volleyball, no doubt. After some of these wins.

Speaker 2 (32:10):
Well, the Billy Napier experience didn't last long in Florida
already out another coach fired mid season.

Speaker 3 (32:18):
You know I got a win too. On Saturday, people
are booing them off the field after a win Versussissippi State.
It was it was, but the writing was on the wall.
I mean, that was somebody that I don't think Florida
could have kept. They paid their twenty one twenty two
million dollars buyout, that only half has to be paid
over the next thirty or sixty days. That seems like
a better contract than what Kentucky's in now.

Speaker 1 (32:39):
It is, But do you think he Freeze is going
to survive?

Speaker 4 (32:42):
No?

Speaker 3 (32:42):
No, And I don't think the golf thing helped him either.
Over the offseason that was just tough. I mean, he
just wanted to get his handicap, but yet the whole
public can see when you play, and you're playing during
a recruiting period, so that's just it's bad optics. So,
I mean, do you think Lane leaves Old miss for Florida?
Because I feel like after the documentary and his you know,
his daughter's being in school there, I feel like he's
kind of put roots down to not use a phrase

(33:06):
that we've heard here at Alex.

Speaker 1 (33:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
So I don't know where Florida goes. There's some high
expectations with that job. I know. John Summerl is also
mentioned as well.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
Did you see James Franklin with Nick Saban and Nick
Saban calling it unfair. Yeah, basically calling out Penn State
on national television.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
Bizarre for him to do that interview on college game
Day just days after, but I think goes to show
you maybe how blindsided he was by the decision, and
I guess he wanted to get out in front of
that and say that. But he'll be coaching again soon.
And you're in your Vandy commodores. Dude, they are for real.
You you wanted to pick against them, but they proved
you wrong.

Speaker 2 (33:44):
I was gonna pick against the spread. I wasn't gonna
pick against Vandy.

Speaker 1 (33:47):
I'm just.

Speaker 3 (33:49):
One and a half.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
That's what I was gonna pill. I'm calling called it
the lock of the century. LSU over Vanderbilt and Vandy wins.
They were in the top ten.

Speaker 1 (33:58):
I think for the first time since ninete team forty
seven this way.

Speaker 3 (34:02):
Is going to Nashville, I believe.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
For I didn't see that that happen. Is that happening.

Speaker 3 (34:07):
I didn't say that that is That is incredible crazy?

Speaker 1 (34:10):
It is.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
Everybody thought that Diego Pavia was just a you know,
one trick pony Flash in the pan comes back and
has even a better season so far this year.

Speaker 1 (34:19):
So just imagine that they'd beat in Alabama. They were
in that game for a long time.

Speaker 2 (34:23):
That final score was like thirty one fourteen or thirty
one seventeen.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
That was a lot closer than what the score end.

Speaker 3 (34:29):
But can't they beat I mean, give me a team
in the SEC that they wouldn't have a puncher's chance
against them. I mean, they've got a real shot at
and in Indiana.

Speaker 1 (34:37):
Indiana continues to roll too.

Speaker 2 (34:40):
We have Van in Indiana and a college football playoff.

Speaker 1 (34:45):
It is looking like it could happen.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
Just just make them face each other. Let's see those
two fan bases go at it in a playoff game.
Would love to see it.

Speaker 1 (34:52):
Let's take one more than we'll go to break. Hey Joe,
what's up?

Speaker 6 (34:56):
Hey? How's it going on?

Speaker 1 (34:57):
All right? Man?

Speaker 3 (34:58):
Good Joe.

Speaker 6 (35:01):
So over these years we've had different offensive coordinators. Are
you guys seeing a big difference? I'm not. Are we
sure that Stoops doesn't have team meetings of how he
wants the game to go?

Speaker 1 (35:14):
Yeah, I'm sure. I mean we've talked about this.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
Yeah, when you have a revolving door of offensive coordinators
and you can't keep any of them here, I mean,
it's for good reason. It goes back to the head coach.
At some point, you have to point the finger to
the top.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
Overall philosophy overtones that Stoops wants to implement.

Speaker 1 (35:31):
Sure, I think that's fair.

Speaker 6 (35:33):
So Cal left. Do you really think Cal left on
a breach of contract not knowing that he would breach
his contract he went and did that, or he that
he loved Kentucky so much that maybe he didn't want
to ruffle you know, he wanted to save us money, and.

Speaker 2 (35:53):
I mean probably not. I think Stoops is locked in
being the head coach. Or I mean he said just
two weeks ago, I'm not going anywhere. So I think that,
you know, stuck with Stups in that. But yeah, we're
stuck with that buyout with Stoops. Thanks for the call, Joe.
I don't think that he is going to go anywhere,
although he, like you said, he did acknowledge, you know,
the fans frustrations in the postgame comments.

Speaker 3 (36:13):
You know, the way Cal tells it, it was kind
of a meeting with Arkansas. Before it was a meeting
with Arkansas, he was just giving advice to his friend
and then it kind of came up in conversation, Well
why not you cow and I guess the only thing
that makes me hesitant to think that Cal did that
on purpose was the remorse that he shared. And I
think he kind of wanted to come back at one point,
maybe when he saw the reaction from the fan base,

(36:35):
and I think that ship had sailed at that point,
and Mitch was like, no, you've already breached your contract contract.
Now we can get out of the buyout. Things have changed,
So I don't think it was out of spite that
Cal did those things, but it just kind of naturally
progressed from there. I don't think Stoops has that clause
in his contract, though, because he's already flirted with A
and M and then you know they didn't get out
of the buyout, right, did that right?

Speaker 4 (36:56):
All?

Speaker 5 (36:56):
Right?

Speaker 2 (36:56):
Eight five nine two eight OO twenty two eighty seven.
We'll take a break, We'll come right back. Final segment
of the KSR pre Show. Final segment of the KSR

last call, but until then, Billy tell us who the

Major League Baseball Playoffs Game six tonight of the ALCS
Blue Jays have come back. They've now won three straight
Billy to go up three to two over Seattle. They
can close it out tonight and go to the World
Series to play the Dodgers. I want to talk about
this real quick. On Friday night, did you see what
Shoeo Tani did? This dude, he's a unicorn.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
It's incredible.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
He became the first Major League baseball player in history
to hit three home runs and get ten strikeouts in
one game. That is I mean, the dude. Can we
call him the best player since Babe Ruth? A guy
who can hit for power, a guy who's an elite
pitcher who can do it all. I mean he's Is

(38:58):
he the only pitcher in a league baseball that now
hits for himself?

Speaker 1 (39:01):
I think he is.

Speaker 3 (39:02):
Well, you know, people call him a generational player, but
there's not been ever a player in baseball in any
generation to do what he's doing. And somebody posted a
video of his night in chronological order, and it just
made it look even more incredible. I mean, this guy
to have ten strikeouts and three home runs in an
NLCS clinching game. I mean, that's just kind of all
time stuff that you know, you'll tell your kids and

(39:23):
there and they'll tell their kids one day about Shohey
o Tani. No wonder the translator took the fall for him,
because that.

Speaker 1 (39:30):
Guy is yeah, yeah, keep them out of prison, right.

Speaker 3 (39:32):
Yeah, he cannot you know, the best player.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
Ever in the last you know, sixty seventy years, maybe
longer than that.

Speaker 3 (39:39):
Oh yeah, it was this translator taking the money one show.
Hey gambling.

Speaker 2 (39:43):
Speaking of money, did you see Shad and Sharp just
signed a ninety million dollars deal with the Portland Trail Blazers. Wow,
you want to talk about what cut what might have
been for Kentucky basketball. You remember Shad and Sharp was
on the twenty twenty one twenty two team, the team
that lost to Saint Peter's and Billy. There's no way
you're convincing me that if we had Shaden Sharp on
the team, that that team is going to lose to

(40:05):
Saint Peter's.

Speaker 3 (40:06):
Oh come on, you don't think it would have made
him nervous.

Speaker 2 (40:08):
To No, No, if they had Shaden Sharp, I'm telling
you they win the Saint Peter's game, and who knows,
maybe Caliperry is still here.

Speaker 1 (40:16):
You never know. If the Saint.

Speaker 2 (40:17):
Peter's game never happened under fly effect, if that never happened,
who knows. You know, the whole Shadan Sharp could have
changed the entire history and the trajectory of where Caliperry
ended up.

Speaker 3 (40:28):
Yeah, and you know, and I really don't blame cal
for that one. Now, was his wording wrong? Come out
and watch Shaden Sharp warm up? Yeah, that would that
could have been handled better. But what can he do
him and his handler tells him he's just not going
to play. I mean, that was That was such a
brazen move by him, and I guess it worked out.
He retained his draft stock and now he's got his

(40:48):
ninety million dollars pay day.

Speaker 2 (40:50):
But luckily we're not in that situation, and might say
it luckily maybe it's a conscious decision not to have
a guy on your team where they're going to have
a handler who's going to tell the coach and the

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist

It’s 1996 in rural North Carolina, and an oddball crew makes history when they pull off America’s third largest cash heist. But it’s all downhill from there. Join host Johnny Knoxville as he unspools a wild and woolly tale about a group of regular ‘ol folks who risked it all for a chance at a better life. CrimeLess: Hillbilly Heist answers the question: what would you do with 17.3 million dollars? The answer includes diamond rings, mansions, velvet Elvis paintings, plus a run for the border, murder-for-hire-plots, and FBI busts.
