Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
It is the KSR Pre Show Monday, November tenth. I'm
Shannon to the Dude, and you can give us a
call on the Clark's Puppet Shop phone line at eight
five nine and two eight oh twenty two eighty seven
be your a whiskey Thief call of the day. Can
also send us a text at five two.
Speaker 1 (00:15):
Two six five six six five six.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
The KSR pre Show is being brought to you by
telex Fine Italian Dining in Lexington, which is where my
co host Billy our sports is huge weekend for Kentucky
sports just in general, a clean sweep. I don't think
Kentucky lost in anything over the weekend. I mean literally,
I think the Kentucky chess team even won over the weekend.
(00:38):
We'll get into all of that and a whole lot
more in just a few minutes. Before we get to that, though, Billy,
two things. Number one, it is absolutely freezing outside. It
was snowing on the way in here. I don't like it.
And can you make it stop? Can you make it
warm up? Because I don't I don't like this cold weather.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Can I make it stop? Yeah, that's what I asked you.
Can you miss you might be disappointed. I have no
control over the weather. But it's that time of year,
shann busy season, crossover season. Maybe a little snow on
your way to work. But you're a jep guy. You're
fine getting there.
Speaker 1 (01:08):
No, it's not about now getting here.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
It's just I walked outside and I'm like, it just
hits you upside the head. It's so cold and snowing
on the way in this morning. I saw that so
cold in certain parts of Florida. Billy, they've got a
frozen iguana's warning, frozen falling iguanas.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Do you know about this? You're a fo Yeah, in right.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Apparently, like there's iguanas that hang out in trees in Florida,
but then when it gets to a certain temperature, these
iguanas just freeze up and then when it gets warm again.
Speaker 1 (01:36):
They thaw out.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
But they fall I guess, off the trees, right, and
they hit people in the head. And there's like a
it's a whole thing in Florida where you got to
watch out for iguanas falling from the trees.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
Yeah, you're just walking around, you see an iguana fall
down on the sidewalk right in front of your face.
I'm sure they'd be a little startling. I'm not something
I ever saw, but yeah, we talked about this usually
around this time of year.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Those things way like what what isn'tn iguana? Way on average,
those are big, right.
Speaker 3 (02:03):
Did not expect this question this morning. I'm going to say,
what twelve pounds?
Speaker 2 (02:08):
Okay, imagine a twelve pound of iguana just hitting you
on top of the head. It's not the way you
want to start your morning. So I'm just telling everybody
that's not any morning. Everybody that's listening down in Florida
on the iHeartRadio app, and I do have some friends
down there on the Panhandle that are listening, so just
watch out for those iguanas.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Number two, Billy, I'm fasting today.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
I can't eat anything until one o'clock today. I well understand, no, no, no,
it's not that I got to go in and get
some medical stuff that they want my blood. I told
them I'd rather keep my blood that they say, we
got to have your blood, and they said, you cannot eat.
I actually went last Thursday to get like biometric screenings,
you know, like just a physical and they go, have
(02:48):
you eaten? I go, yeah, we can't take your blood
because you've eaten today. I said, well, why not, it's there,
just take it. They said, no, we need you to
come back on a day where you haven't eaten any
So they said, come back Monday and don't eat for
eight hours straight. So if I get a little angry
during the show, I'm just giving you a fair warning
before we get going here.
Speaker 3 (03:08):
Just just oh boy, well, I think, God, this show
is only an hour. I mean by the end of
KSR you might be a little hangry. Hopefully no callers
get on your bad side. Shin, and the dude's got
to get his blood drawn. Yeah, I didn't know you
couldn't eat before doing that, So I guess we are learning.
Look what you could learn on the pre show on
a Monday morning where we have all the sports to
talk about and we're learning about blood and iguanash.
Speaker 1 (03:30):
Your veins don't give blood because you get a vein.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
Now I redeemed myself. I went back to the Kentucky
Blood Center and did give blood after my beta vein performance.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
That branded that one. That was really the funniest thing.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Like they were sticking you like a pincushion and no
blood would come out, Like is this guy alive? Does
he have any blood in there? That was one of
the wildest things I've seen.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Well then me walking back in with both arms banded
and stuff like, I.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Couldn't they couldn't get anything got You were walked out
there looking like a mummy and they got no blood
at all. But anyway, that's what that's what I got
to look forward to later today. All right, yeah, let's
talk sports man Kentucky. Let's just go chronologically. Okay, let's
start with Friday, Kentucky basketball beats Valpo one, seven fifty
nine in a game that was over in the first
five minutes. I mean, it was never competitive, but Billy
(04:18):
kentucky Is shooting percentage was better, their defense was solid again,
they kept their opponent for the second straight game in
the fifties. All five starters scored in double digits. But
there was one other player, Billy that scored in double
digits that I want to talk about. And he's the
guy that I said was gonna be my pick, my
surprise player off the bench all season long. Let's get
(04:39):
up from Melchai Moreno coming in eighteen points, ten rebounds, Billy,
that's a double double in case you didn't know. You
know Drew has the Colin Chandler fan base that he's
the leader of the fan club. I think I'm going
to I'm gonna go ahead and lead the charge right
now for the Moreno fan club. If you want to
get in right now, if you want to get in
right now, now's the time.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
But a big win for Kentucky really wasn't that competitive,
but just good to see the Cats improving on some
things that maybe were concerns in the first few games.
Speaker 3 (05:10):
Yeah, Malachi was great. His double double was awesome to see.
He's adjusted to the game pretty well so far. Twenty
seven assists and only six turnovers for Kentucky that had
Aberdeen start at the point guard spot and Jalen Lowe
make his debut, and that was really exciting. I mean
for him to have what was it, five assists zero
turnovers in that game gave you a glimpse of what
(05:31):
this offense could look like with a good ball distributor
at the point guard spot. I mean, this could be
Kentucky's offense all year. Shannon and a team that adds
Jaden Quainton's later in the year. I mean, it is
scary to think about. So an overall a feel good
win versus Valparaiso, like you said, Malachi Mareno being one
of my bigger takeaways from it. And now you turn
(05:53):
your attention to Tuesday, right, I mean, now you've got
some two exhibition games, two regular season games underneath your belt,
and you are ready to take on your heated rival
on the road this year.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I do have to tell you, I struggled to find
the game for a minute on the box, and by
the time I turned it over, it's like thirty one
to six, So I felt like the game was already
over before I could even get to see what was
happening there. But yeah, you're right tomorrow night, man, it's
here Kentucky and Louisville. We're playing this basketball game earlier
than I think we've ever played it before, at least
(06:25):
in my lifetime that I can remember playing this game
before you get to the football game. And Mark Pope
said in the postgame after Valpo that he may have
a problem. He said, I don't know for sure yet,
but I have been summoned to serve on the jury
and I'm going to have to call in the night
before to see if I have jury duty. Now I've
got there's a lot to digest and that sentence, I've
(06:48):
got jury duty. You're the head coach at Kentucky. You
say you get jury duty. Good news is he called in.
He doesn't have it Monday or Tuesday.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
So we're good.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
There, we're off the hook. We don't have to worry
about not having our head coach for the Louisvill game.
But number one, I mean, could you imagine if Mark
Pope had to serve on a jury the week of
the Kentucky Louisville game. Number two, I know that no
one's above the law, but you would think that as
the head coach of the University of Kentucky, Billy, that
(07:16):
you would probably just get out of jury duty pretty easily.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Right, Oh, you'd think, you'd think.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
And then number three, I mean, I know jury duty
is typically over by like five PM, but this is
an ongoing thing too. Like when you have jury duty,
you have to be on there potentially for several weeks.
Imagine we got a road game and he has to
call in the night before and they need them, and
now you know you're leaving the day before to go
on the road trips. You know, imagine we don't have
(07:43):
Mark Pope for a game because of jury duty.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
Billy, what do you think that he's above it? Shannon?
Do you think he should not have to do jury
duty because the coach Kentucky basketball?
Speaker 1 (07:52):
Kind of?
Speaker 2 (07:53):
Okay, I kind of do. I mean, he's got a
job to do that's more important than on the jury.
You could get anybody to serve on the jury. We've
only got one head coach. We need our head coach.
Speaker 3 (08:06):
Yeah, that was a funny bit though. I did enjoy
him leaning into that a little bit. Matt and I
on the postgame show talking about if there was a
judge in Lexington that happened to be a Louisville fan,
maybe he you know, he stands tall and makes Mark
Pope actually do it. But I believe we have a
holiday on Tuesday, right, it's a Veterans Day, So oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
(08:26):
I think that's probably part of it. But yeah, does
this keep gone going after Tuesday? Is he gonna have
to keep checking back in?
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (08:34):
Have you never served on a jury before? We're like
been summoned in for jury.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Summoned in. I got picked for the court case, did
a trial? It took about a week.
Speaker 1 (08:43):
Oh, you were actually on a trial.
Speaker 2 (08:46):
See I've been called in several times but always get dismissed.
Speaker 3 (08:49):
Oh, I'm sure, Shannon. The dude goes up there, you know,
everybody's in the same room, and they would go, is
there any reason why you would not be a good
candidate to be a juror?
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (08:58):
Yeah, And then Shannon dreising his hand and he's like,
and then, what ridiculous reason did you get?
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Got it?
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I am extremely biased? I really am. That's what I'll say.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Well, one time I got called in and I actually
knew I think the person or somebody involved in the case.
Speaker 1 (09:14):
So then they say, way to get out.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
So when they say like, do you know this person?
I was like, yeah, actually I do. It was in
Bullet County. I know a lot of people, so I
was like, yep, I actually know this person. Can't do it,
and they let me go. They tried to get me
I think it was earlier this year for Jefferson County
to serve on a jury, and I said, nope, don't
live in Jefferson County anymore. I live in Bullet County.
So they let me out of that. But yeah, that's
no fun. Man, It's it's the worst go into a
(09:38):
court and you got to sit there all day. They
let you out, They pay you like but seven bucks
or something like that.
Speaker 3 (09:44):
I mean, you know, I'm making more on my radio
salary in that time. In a day. You got to
bite the bullet and everybody around you. You've got to
pick up the slack since you're gone. But there were
some interesting moments, no doubt, but that only lasted for
a little while. I imagine Mark Pope would be into it.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Oh yeah, yeah, for sure.
Speaker 3 (10:02):
Is somebody that dropped out of medical school after three years.
I'm sure he would be somebody that would.
Speaker 2 (10:06):
But I'm just saying, of all the times to get
him though, right when basketball season starts.
Speaker 1 (10:11):
I mean you could have gotten him over the summer.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
Yeah, but I don't think he's above it, Shannon, Like
everybody's got to do jury duty.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
If you're the coach at Kentucky, I think that's a
good excuse to get out of it, though. You know,
like you can check a box on the form that says,
you know, extraordinary circumstances.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
I feel like being the heduz he too busy to serve.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
You don't think being the head coach at the University
of Kentucky is not a good reason.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
To get I just like you how you think he's
above the law.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
I didn't say it was above the law. I didn't
say it was above the law. But if you got
a job like where you have to travel, that would
be his job. If you got a you know, like
a different circumstances than the average human being, then yeah, the.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Hell does traveling have to do with him not being
on a jury?
Speaker 1 (10:52):
You're here because if you're traveling, you can't be in
the jury.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
Well, then make the time to be on the jury. Like,
I get it.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
In this stage, you are absolutely ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Well, like I just you know, you're just giving them
a pass already in this state, I get it. Is
there a more important job in the state than the
head coach of Kentucky basketball?
Speaker 1 (11:10):
Probably not, may probably not. Maybe the governor maybe, but maybe.
Speaker 2 (11:14):
But at what level, though, do you think that you
apparently think that Mark Pope.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Should just go ahead and serve on the jury.
Speaker 2 (11:20):
I mean, yeah, well, talk about an unpopular opinion, hot take,
is it? I mean, make sure you let Billy know
FA six six five six, all right, So that's the
basketball news. We got the Lobal game coming up tomorrow night.
We'll talk about that more later and tomorrow as well.
Then on Saturday, Billy Kentucky with a huge win over Florida.
(11:44):
I was actually at the game, went up to ks
Bar for there, not for the pregame show, but before
the game, went up to ks Bar, you know, had
to go in there and do my six month check
in because I'm not there a lot. I had to
do some quality control, make sure the Tater Kegs were
still good, which they are.
Speaker 1 (12:02):
They're awesome. Is in't Buffalo Shrimp.
Speaker 2 (12:04):
It's a great place to go for the pregame show
in case you don't go. But Kentucky wins thirty eight
to seven. And I don't know where that offense came from, Billy,
but thirty eight points, zero punts, Ada La Ross got
the night off. That's the first time with no punts
into game since twenty twenty one. I listen to these
other stats here. It was the largest margin of victory
(12:24):
versus Florida since nineteen fifty.
Speaker 1 (12:28):
It was the.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
First three game home win streak versus Florida since nineteen
fifty to nineteen fifty five. It was the largest margin
of victory in an SEC game since nineteen ninety eight.
Speaker 3 (12:40):
That's incredible.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
It was their first home SEC win, as we've talked
about since twenty twenty three. It was their first two
game SEC win streak since twenty twenty three, and the
most points scored in an SEC game since twenty twenty three.
Speaker 1 (12:53):
And now where are we at with this whole thing?
Speaker 2 (12:54):
Because this has flipped a lot of our takes upside down.
Mark Stoops does his best Undertaker impersonation, he comes out
of the cast and he wins back to back games.
And now we got to have the conversation Kentucky could
possibly be going to a bowl.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Well, let's pump the brakes, geez, Shannon, bowl game. We're
not there yet, but this has been a huge step
for Kentucky to are you today on the team?
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Really upset? I think you're the one who's passed.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
You're making some generalizations this morning. I'm just not gonna
let you do it. Shannon. Yes, the path to a
bowl game is there, but look, I mean, you've you
got to beat an undefeated Tennessee Tech team and then
you've got to win one of two against two good
teams in Louisville Vandy.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Yeah, it's there. Louisville.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
We lost to California, Like it's not possible.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Correct, it is absolutely possible. That's why they played the
damn game. Shannon. I God, I can't stand you this
morning anyway. Feeling's mutual that the one stat you didn't
say as you rattled off stats there was that Kentucky
had lost eleven straight SEC home games. This was a
streak that needed to be snapped. This was something I
think was haunting Mark Stoops a little bit. And for
them to get a big win versus Florida, it was incredible.
(14:04):
Seventy five years since that big of a win over
Florida nineteen fifty, like you said, Shannon, and I'm happy
for the everybody involved. Cutter Bowlie like it. Everybody that
has had Mark Stoops is back over this season. You're right,
our takes have been flipped on our head a little bit.
I think a lot of us predicted four or five
wins this year and that path is absolutely here now.
(14:26):
But you're right, Bush Hampden saving his job in the process. Maybe,
I mean, where was this at all year? And despite
one turnover, know, Jeremy Macklin muffed punt that allowed Florida
to score. It was a shutout by Brad White. St defense,
back to back performances, you know, only giving up what
three points versus Auburn, now seven versus Florida, you know,
(14:47):
really good performances by Brad White after getting carved up
by Tennessee. So, I mean, how fun of a victory
was that? I mean the postgame show was maybe people
some eating crow. Yeah, after talking about stoops all year
and then you know, they deserve a ton of credit.
They deserve a lot of credit for winning that game.
Speaker 2 (15:04):
There's a lot of fun, great atmosphere being there too.
We'll talk more about it in just a few minutes.
We'll take your calls. Eight five nine, eight twenty two
eighty seven. Have you changed your opinion on whether Mark's
dupes or should or should not remain as the head
coach here at Kentucky. And we got to get Billy
his binky, he'd get get them called off a little bit.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
Bully doing the money celebration that during the game. Man,
they just they leaned into it.
Speaker 1 (15:26):
I loved it. Five nine two twenty two eighty seven.
Will be right back.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
It is the ksrpreciow ks our appre show, Shannon the
Dude and Billy relichs.
Speaker 1 (15:34):
We're going to take your calls in just a minute.
They played the song again.
Speaker 2 (15:38):
I guess they played at every home game, Billy, Like
I said, I don't go to many home games. I
think maybe like there was a game earlier in the
year where they didn't play this, and people are like,
where's Grove Street at Man, Come on, you gotta play it.
Speaker 1 (15:48):
It's become a staple, that's right. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
The little old ladies called in and we're like, we
didn't hear the money song, Yeah, and we're disappointed. And
so that was timely with everything going on with Calzada
and the Cats bounce about with a big victory.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Cutter bowley Man looked good again, kept the offense moving
eleven straight completions. Running game was solid, they were great
on third down and defensively, let's talk about that for
just a minute. I mean, Brad White has got this
defense locked down for a game two weeks ago where
Tennessee came in and just ran all over Kentucky. For
(16:21):
Kentucky to have a two bounce back games where you
hold Auburn to three points.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
Then you hold Florida to seven.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
They could have very well easily head back to back
shutouts defensively, So I got to give it up for
that defense. And Brad White did a great job responding
to a not so good game against Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
And if you think about it, they played most of
that game without Afari or love It after getting injured
early in the game, So even more reason to be
impressed by Brad White and Mark Stoops's performance. The middle
eight went well for the most part. Man, it was
just an uncharacteristic Kentucky home football game, and that's why
even people saw Shannon the Dude there.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
That's right, Frank says, I tuned in to what I
thought was the KSR pre show, but I got Cam
and Dave instead, Jax Teller, Jax Teller, Jax Teller, Shannon
the Dude, and Billy Sports are doing their best Cameron
and buzz impersonation today.
Speaker 3 (17:10):
Yeah, I got Billy Sounds the one that's angry.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
Yeah, I mean, I was like, are you okay? I
want to make sure you're all right, Like do you
need a back rub?
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Well?
Speaker 3 (17:18):
I just I don't think people realize four years of
Shannon the dude, every morning can weigh on even the
best man.
Speaker 2 (17:24):
You need to take a long look in the mirror,
like I gotta deal with you every morning you're talking
about me. Misty says, Billy is truly getting on my
nerves this morning. He's a Kentucky transplant. He needs to
settle down. Don't ever let him talk to you like
that again. I agree, Misty?
Speaker 3 (17:40):
Is that our Misty? Is that Misty English? Because I
do apologize. It's misty if she's.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Upset, what about me? No, I do not apologize for you.
She's like, she's not gonna bring you any of that
salsa anymore.
Speaker 5 (17:50):
See.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
That's that's why I can't be in here. I need
to be in her good graces. I cannot miss some
of that stuff.
Speaker 2 (17:56):

All right, let's go to the phones. We will go
to Mike first. Go ahead, Mike. What's up, Mike?
Speaker 6 (18:48):
How's a going this morning? Guys? I got us a
little bit of a smile Saturday when they won the
football game. Actually for the first time all year. I'm
feeling good about football. I even turned the FAA be
more than sports talk. I want to hear about it.
And you know there and I hear one of the
football coaches on there crying about how much money Mark
(19:09):
Cope got and then it just that's played me once again,
like are we going to go back?
Speaker 1 (19:14):
I didn't know about this, so yeah, and I was like.
Speaker 6 (19:19):
Come on, man, did we not learn anything the first time?
Why are we doing this? And it was it was
about nil dollars And then I was thinking about nil
dollars are money that people give, right, that they want
to give to the program. Right, we win some damn
games and your nil dollars will go up, right?
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Yeah, yeah, I didn't hear that, so I can't really
give you too much of a take without without hearing
the contexts and exactly what was said.
Speaker 1 (19:43):
But I appreciate the call, Mike, But uh yeah, I
mean when games, people are going to give you money.
That's the way it works. That's the world we live
in now with nil.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
And I don't know, like what what your people's take
are on the season yet because I think we still
got three huge games still to go. But right now,
it's amazing how quickly things can flip in just two weeks.
Two weeks ago, everybody is ready to get rid of
Mark Stoops. Maybe people still are, but I think you
got to. You said pump the breaks. I think we
(20:12):
need to pump the breaks on this Kentucky football team
right now because they are just two wins away from
being Bowl eligible.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Well, you get to five wins and you're in that
weird limbo spot, right, you're not sure what to do.
Will Mitch Barnhardt make a change with that big of
a buyout on the table. But if he gets to
six makes a Bowl game, with this schedule and some
of the adversity that they've had to overcome this year,
I think he's earned it. I mean, would you disagree, No, no,
absolutely not. I mean a lot of people have been
calling for Mark Stoop's job. I haven't been one of
(20:40):
them yet to say that I think they should make
a change. I said, let's play out the season, Let's
see what happens, because things can always turn around, as
we've seen the last couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (20:49):
And there's still a portion of this fan base though,
it's like, yeah, you beat Auburn, but Auburn sucks. Yeah
you beat Florida, but Florida sucks. How about we just
give Kentucky credit for winning a couple of games. How
about we give, you know, props to the offense for
scoring thirty eight points in an SEC game on Saturday.
You know, let's give Kentucky credit for not just folding
and coming out and not having any fight, and through
(21:10):
all this adversity, still in contention for a bowl game, which,
by the way, there is now a projection for Kentucky
to go to the.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
Liberty Bowl in Memphis.
Speaker 2 (21:18):
Now none of that might be I might say, okay,
slow down a little bit here, But if you're looking
at the bowl projections, they've got Kentucky on one. I
don't know what the website is. I'd have to go
back and check the source. But Kentucky and the Liberty
Bowl down in Memphis, and if we go to Memphis,
I'd be good with that. We've had some fun times
in Memphis. We had the incident at the Peabody Hotel
(21:41):
where we got kicked out and then we ended up
being the duck Masters. We got to go down and
hang out with the King, Jerry Lawler at his restaurant
on Bill Street. So if Kentucky ends up going to Memphis,
I'm down for a Memphis road trip.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
That could be a lot of fun.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
If you got to that point, you've either beaten a
good Vandy team or you beat Vince Mayrow and Louisville.
How sweet would that be? The big dog running over
to Louisville and them losing to cal this this week.
Like you said, Shannon, it's possible. I mean, Kentucky keep
trending in the right direction. Anything's possible.
Speaker 2 (22:09):
We're gonna trk ourselves into a Bowl win or a
bowl game and then a Bowl win. Imagine you get
to a bowl game and then you win, and you
finished seven and six after all the stuff that we've
talked about and all the things that have happened.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
It'd be an impressive turnover.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
Nobody is better with their back against the wall than
Mark Stoops. We'll take more phone calls coming up next
year on the KSR pre show Welcome Back. It is
the KSR pre Show. If you're listening on podcast, you
can't hear that. I'm playing black Hole Sun from Sound
Garden right now, and I'm playing this because over the weekend, Billy,
they had the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Sound Garden got inducted, but the person who inducted them
(22:44):
was Jim Carrey, of all people, and Jim Carrey's one
of those guys that I thought just was a complete recluse.
I haven't seen him in years. I don't even know
the last Jim Carrey movie that came out that I saw.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
But yeah, you didn't see the new Sonic movie, Shannon, No,
I did not know. It seems like he was losing
his mind a little bit the last few interviews I
had seen with him. But why was he there introducing them?
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Well, he said that I guess he was a big
fan of them back in the nineties and when he
was on he was on SNL, right, Jim Carrey, Yeah,
I think so.
Speaker 4 (23:14):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
So anyway, he insisted on them being the musical guest.
I think he came back.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Here's what it was.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
He came back to do a guest hosting spot for
Saturday Night Live. He was a big fan of Sound Garden,
and he said that he would do it, but he
insisted on sound Garden being the musical guest, which they
were that night. So I guess just him being a
big fan of the band and getting to getting to
know them personally over the years is the reason they
asked him to induct them. But yeah, kind of cool
(23:41):
to see Jim Carrey out in the wild and he
kind of did his stand up bit, the fire Marshall
Bill thing.
Speaker 1 (23:48):
I wasn't even living color.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Right, I didn't watch all those shows back in the day,
so I'm not really that familiar.
Speaker 3 (23:52):
Yeah, I'm not sure. I'm not sure on that. Did
he have like a big beard or did he has
he himself up now?
Speaker 2 (23:57):
He was He was clean shaven and just looked like
an older version of Jim Garry as you would imagine.
Speaker 3 (24:03):
So was there a little like Warren Yvonne going on
as well? During this induction ceremony. I feel like Matt
was talking about.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
I only saw the sound Garden, Okay, so I didn't.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Really see all of it, to be fair, I think
maybe he here got inducted or something like that.
Speaker 7 (24:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:17):
Do you like the quote that Mark Stoops gave If
you swing, I'm gonna swing back. It's what he said
after the game talking about some shots. I guess that,
you know, not necessarily fans, but I think maybe media
and others were, you know, taking shots at him. He says,
if you swing, I'm gonna swing back. I kind of
felt like some of that was a pointered at us.
I think he even mentioned, you know, we came up
(24:40):
short in some of the games, but of course that
doesn't matter to fans in the media, that doesn't count
when you come up short. I felt like we had
didn't say something similar to that Friday on the remote.
I think we did, and he kind of sprinkled that
in in his postgame comments.
Speaker 3 (24:54):
Well, he's human as much as we are, so he
hears the negative comments, and like we've talked, I think
registers with him differently than maybe somebody like Cal in
the past. It can, it can really get to him,
and we've seen it impact him. I think the question
we now have to ask ourselves is do we need
to put Ryan Lemon through a table every Oh.
Speaker 1 (25:13):
See, that was the other thing.
Speaker 2 (25:14):
As I was pulling into KOs Bar, I had just
missed Ryan going through the table, but oh you missed.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
As I was driving, uh, trying to.
Speaker 2 (25:21):
Find a parking spot just by the way that was
the most crowded parking lot for the time that I've
been at ks Bar.
Speaker 1 (25:28):
Ever, i had to park all the way over by
Dairy Queen.
Speaker 2 (25:30):
But anyway, as I'm rolling in looking for a parking spot,
there's Cash Daniel and I had to chat him up.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
I'm like, dude, he knows sold you again, like you
put the.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Man through a table, and he just poked right up again,
like you gotta lay there at least for a couple
of minutes.
Speaker 1 (25:43):
But no, I'm glad that Ryan's okay.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
He went through the table, And I think you're right
now every time, can I think every time Kentucky just
plays a game. We just put Ryan through something, through
a table, through a window, you know, whatever it takes.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
No, you're right, he needed to stay on the table
a little bit longer. There's a still frame of cash,
you know, lifting him up in the air doing the
chok slam. Yeah, that is that is priceless. So you
know you said you parked your car near the dairy,
Queen Shannon, did it get towed?
Speaker 2 (26:11):
No?
Speaker 1 (26:11):
No, No, I'm good in goodness, I wasn't there long enough.
Speaker 5 (26:14):
Good.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
I mean I hear that they will.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Tow, Is that right?
Speaker 4 (26:17):
Well?
Speaker 3 (26:17):
Oh yeah, well, you know you don't spend a lot
of time over there.
Speaker 1 (26:20):
I was living on the edge, I guess, and didn't
even realize it.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
Yeah, but I was like I was going to the game.
You know, I'm somebody that never gets to go to
these games. You it's it was so far in between
for you. Is it nice to be back? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (26:30):
I mean I don't know that. It was a sold
out crowd but I mean it was if it wasn't,
it was close. I thought the crowd was into it.
It was a good atmosphere. The here's the thing, though, Yeah,
my one complaint, and it's been my same complaint for
the last twenty years, and I think it's probably the
same complaint that a lot of other people who go
to the game to share the Wi Fi.
Speaker 1 (26:51):
There is non existent.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
I tried to tweet out a picture right at kickoff
at seven thirty. The tweet didn't go out until nine
to thirty, two hours later. I think it's because I
went up to use the bathroom, and like you go
up to the concourse, you can actually get Wi Fi.
But when you're at your seat and you want to
tweet something out, forget about it, you can't. Just for
some reason, they cannot figure out how to get Wi
Fi in that stadium.
Speaker 1 (27:14):
And I don't know. I don't know why.
Speaker 2 (27:16):
I don't know why they can't do it, but it's
been a problem for years and it still is. I thought, well,
you know, it's been a few years since I've been
to the game. They've got this figured out. Now I'll
be able to tweet freely from my seat.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
A no Wi Fi. You can't do it. Not happening.
Speaker 3 (27:30):
Oh God forbid. You need to look up your tickets
on your phone, and you don't have them downloaded to
your phat by the time that you get there. Hardly
the WiFi is good enough to be able to do that.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
I had to save them to my wallet on there.
You know you save them to your wallet. You don't
need wife, so.
Speaker 1 (27:42):
You planned ahead fine with this, Like not my first rodeo,
It's been a while, but yeah.
Speaker 2 (27:46):
Uh, Kentucky women's basketball got a big win yesterday eighty
one to forty seven over Buffalo. I mean, I don't
know really what to say about the women's game.
Speaker 3 (27:57):
Because Clara Strack it was her homecoming. They played this
game for her, returning to Buffalo, and how about the
game career high twenty seven points for her, twelve rebounds,
four blocks. That is kind of like the stuff of dreams,
is it? Not going home and then having like a
career high. A lot of really happy for her.
Speaker 2 (28:13):
A lot of times you see these players that you
know go on the road and they play in their
hometown and they don't have to get.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Tight the friends and family there.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
You have their tents, they don't play as well as
you think they would, but clearly not the problem for
Clara Struck.
Speaker 3 (28:26):
Yeah, and that's a player that's really important for this
team this year.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Let's go to Debbie. Hey, Debbie, good morning.
Speaker 5 (28:34):
After the last couple of football games, I'm cautiously optimistic.
I'd love to see it continue. I feel like the
key to for Stups to be able to stay. I
feel like you took a step back from his coaching
this game, and maybe it's offensive line offensive coach and
is defensive coach do the calls instead of him. The
only real characteristic I saw stats in the game was
(28:56):
going forward on fourth to down yep. But other than that,
I feel like he's taking a step back and let
them do what the what they're supposed to do. And
I feel like if he continues to do that, they
could possibly continue to win. I also think that if
they kind of this controversy with States has kind of
brought the team together, and I think it's kind of
(29:18):
motivated him.
Speaker 1 (29:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (29:19):
I think the players are definitely behind Mark Stoops. We
hear from players saying that he is a players coach,
and I appreciate the call.
Speaker 1 (29:26):
Debbie, Thank you, thank you. Devin.
Speaker 2 (29:27):
I'm not sure people say that Mark Stoops is taking
a step back. I hear that a lot, But do
we really know that, I mean, or do we just
not want to give Mark Stoops any credit for the
offense at all.
Speaker 3 (29:40):
Well, that's the great question. We've been asking that for years,
and maybe despite the late game play calling versus Texas,
the play calling is has been very good, maybe decent
when it comes to Auburn and Florida.
Speaker 2 (29:53):
But you hear what I'm saying, though, I feel like
if the offense is bad, we blame Mark Stoops. The
offense is good, next week we say, well, he must
have taking a step back. That clearly wasn't Mark Stoop's offense.
The score thirty eight points against Florida. Let's give the
guy a little bit of credit.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Yeah, you got to give him credit when they win,
if you're going to give him the blame when they lose.
I think they've rallied around the Calzada thing as well
as much as if they have their Stoops being down
because the kicker was doing the money celebration after he
made a kick, like they were all doing it. So
like to lean into it, you know, bo Allen came
into the game late. I think that was probably a
(30:25):
message to Zach about what he did. This could have
gone south, right, This could have been a very ugly
weekend for Kentucky football. We could have done that postgame
show the other night and Matt would have had to
talk to the fan base about possibly moving on and
finding a different coach. And that was just simply not
the case. A complete one eighty.
Speaker 1 (30:43):
Now, how about Garrett calling in on KSR after the
pre show.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
That was something, wasn't it? Because I don't think he
did too many favors for himself during that call Shannon,
Like I know, he wanted to be a part of
it and beyond the show to talk about it. But
everything I heard I don't think Garrett did. I don't
think he should be trolling players like that on.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
No don't tweet play And I know people will say
there's a group of people will say, don't tweet the players,
they're kids. Then there's the other group of people go, well,
they're making millions of dollars, they're making more than I am.
They're not kids anymore. They're professional athletes. At this point,
I can do whatever I want to do. I can't
never see a scenario where I would personally tweet or
private message a player. But there is always going to
(31:21):
be a group of our fan base that feels like
it's perfectly fine to jump on Twitter or or whatever
it may be Snapchat. I guess in this case and
send a direct message and say you suck at football.
Speaker 3 (31:33):
It's it's despicable, like I don't know why. It's because
you lost your two dollars parlay, and you know it's
that's a negative side of a lot of the things
that have come to light recently. But you know, dming
people in general is probably you're doing something wrong unless
you're giving.
Speaker 2 (31:48):
Them the Calzata should know to that. You know, if
you send somebody a video, it's going to leak, it's
going to get out there.
Speaker 3 (31:54):
But it's Snapchat, Shannon, it's not supposed to.
Speaker 1 (31:56):
It's not supposed to, but you know it will.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
Help Snapchat photos don't come back.
Speaker 1 (32:01):
Oh God, how do you want to hear about that?
Let's go to Raleigh. What's up? Rally?
Speaker 3 (32:04):
Hey Raleigh, Hey, good mornin.
Speaker 7 (32:06):
Fellas. I think one of the reasons, or maybe the
biggest reason the offense is playing better is we're seeing
the emergence of elite quarterback. He's getting better by the
week and the offense is getting better by the week.
And to that point, I think a key a key
thing about about Mark Pope is is is there any
sense of his allegiance to Pope? In other words, if
(32:28):
we lose Pope, are we going to lose him? Or
if we keep Pope we're going to lose I think
any team that wins big has a lead quarterback. I
think we have an elite quarterback in the making right now,
and we've got to do whatever it takes to keep
that guy happy. That's just my take.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
Thanks for the car Raley. We appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (32:43):
You know, I think he meant stoops Yeah, yeah he did. Yeah,
but you know as well as cut Or played. Really,
the running game is what got you the most of
the yards against Florida two hundred and what was it,
two hundred and twenty some yards that they got on
the ground.
Speaker 1 (32:57):
Two hundred and thirty three yards on the ground.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Yeah, Downdown had a big one. You know, McGowan was
doing his thing. But Caller's right. We've seen Cutter Bully
come in and get better every single week. The flip
side is of it is why wasn't he starting at
the beginning. Yep, maybe you felt like you spent all
that money on Calzada, you needed to put him out
there first, and that seemed to be the wrong move.
(33:20):
But yeah, it's about keeping Cutter this offseason.
Speaker 2 (33:22):
However, here's my take on why Calzada ended up being
the guy. Whether or not you agree that this should
be or not the reason, it was up to you
to decide. But I think that there was a legit
quarterback battle between the two. I think they were almost
equal in practice. And it's like ty Goo's to the runner, right.
So you've got two guys that are equal, and you
(33:43):
got one guy here that you know is a Kentucky
guy and a guy that you think is going to
be your quarterback long term. But you've also got another
guy who's got a ton of experience, who just paid
a ton of money to come here. And I think
that's probably why he ended up getting the slight advantage
and be in the starting quarterback. But this thing sort
of just worked itself out with the injury.
Speaker 3 (34:04):
And look, Cutter still a freshman. He's a red shirt freshman.
Despite his appearances last year. It's now his second year
in Bush Hampden system. Maybe he's starting to pick things
up a little bit more, getting more confident as the
season goes along. And the receiver room deserves some credit too, yep.
I mean we've seen these millers come out and play
really well. Kendrick Law is starting to find a little
bit of a groove. So, I mean it's not just
one player, but when you have a quarterback, everything is different,
(34:28):
and that's why it is the great chase in this.
Speaker 2 (34:30):

Speaker 2 (36:29):
Kentucky Volleyball gets to come back win over Tennessee in
front of a sellout crowd two d and thirty six people,
is the largest crowd since nineteen eighty three, in the
third largest crowd in Kentucky history. So how about that
man Craig Skinner kats aren out twenty two and or
twenty to zero thirteen and Oero in the SEC got
(36:50):
two more games left to go before the SEC tournament,
then looking to go completely undefeated in the SECT, the
best team on campus.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Yeah, this is impressive. Listened to Andrew Cappus on the
radio call a little bit. Uh, this just feels different
this year, doesn't it. I mean, UK volleyball has had
some great teams, so this just feels like a special one.
And for the Hudson girl to come back despite an
ankle injury. She had nineteen kills hit the game winning
kill as well, just shows the resilience and toughness of
this squad.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
You were telling me during the break that you saw
maybe the best catch of the season Indiana player as
they come back and beat Penn State on the road.
So I looked it up and that was impressive. But
the thing that caught my attention was the call of
the game.
Speaker 1 (37:34):
Who is this?
Speaker 6 (37:35):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (37:35):
Call? John hillon Johnson?
Speaker 3 (37:38):
He's the best call.
Speaker 4 (37:42):
Mendoza drove it out.
Speaker 6 (37:58):
What is that call?
Speaker 5 (38:00):
Oh?
Speaker 3 (38:01):
It really did sound like SpongeBob in that for a second.
Some people hate that guy.
Speaker 1 (38:05):
I love the energy.
Speaker 3 (38:06):
I don't know where do you fall on.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
It's not the energy, it's it's the voice that I'm like,
what in the world. It sounds like he's just spazzing
out or something.
Speaker 3 (38:14):
Oh the voice crack makes it iconic. But yeah, what
a catch that was. Indiana comes back to beat Penn State.
That was a great finish, no doubt.
Speaker 1 (38:22):
Let's go back to the phones and talk to Susan.
Speaker 8 (38:24):
Hey, Susan, Hey, good morning. How are you guys doing well?
Speaker 3 (38:28):
Good Susan, Well, I'll tell you what I think.
Speaker 8 (38:31):
I'm actually in team Billy this morning. I know you
guys are all happed up on the last couple of
wins and whatnot, but I think you've forgotten with the
last two years that we've actually endured. I'm not, you know,
wishing stoops you know, any ill, but I think it's
perfect timing. I mean, I love the boys, glad they
got the couple wins, you know, but maybe some of
(38:53):
these teams that have kind of an empty position that
the head coaching might see Stoops as a breath of
fresh air for their team this year, next year. So
I just think it's kind of as time. You know,
there's been a lot of hard feelings over the last
few years of you know, plock management and play selection
and whatnot that maybe, you know, it's kind of good
(39:15):
to part on kind of an okay note, you know
what I'm saying, But.
Speaker 1 (39:18):
Are you not happy over the last couple of weeks
with the two wins.
Speaker 8 (39:25):
No, not necessarily, I mean not.
Speaker 1 (39:29):
Happy about that.
Speaker 8 (39:31):
Well, it's kind of like being the you know, the
tallest person in a room of midgets, right, so I
mean you gotta be you know, crowd at some point.
But I mean, like I said, I am happy for
our guys, but I just think it's it's kind of
a good timing that if we can kind of you know,
part on you know, some success. But I don't see
(39:53):
the trend that we've had over the last few years
changing over just the last couple of games, and even
if we win another game, I just yet.
Speaker 2 (40:00):
So Okay, let's just go ahead and assume you're going
to beat Tennessee Tech, which is not guaranteed, but let's
just just play with You're going to play along here.
Let's say let's say they beat Tennessee Tech, and let's
say they go on the road and either beat a
top fifteen Vanderbilt team or a top twenty five level
team on the road and go to a bowl game.
Speaker 8 (40:20):
That's a big if.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
That's sure, sure, but it's also very poast.
Speaker 3 (40:23):
You know what I know.
Speaker 8 (40:25):
But I'm just saying that I don't think that Erase
is the last few the last few years, and the
trend you like to say, trends are our friends.
Speaker 3 (40:32):
But well, let me ask you something, Shannon. Let me
defend Susan here for a second. Let's say they beat
Tennessee Tech, they're at five wins, and then they don't
win another game, they don't beat vanders. Well, that's the
scenario they talking about. Yeah, and that's the win mark
that we have predicted pretty much all year. Are you
in on another year of stoops because he beat Florida
and Auburn?
Speaker 1 (40:53):
Probably? Probably?
Speaker 2 (40:54):
I think it also depends on it. Thanks for the call,
sus We're up at we're about to lose a we're
out of time. But yeah, I think it depends on
how competitively you play against Louisville.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Let's say you lose by a couple of points. I
think you keep them. We talked about this on Friday
five and seven.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Even though it's not a winning record and you don't
go to a bowl game and it's still disappointing, it's

Speaker 1 (41:17):

at best.
Speaker 3 (41:20):

different than it did the last two years. But there
is a lot of truth in that the last two
years were unacceptable and now we're starting to see some
positive gains here.
