Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KASR Pre Show.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Today is Tuesday, November eleventh.
Speaker 1 (00:08):
It's game day and we're in Southern Indiana at Bear
Knows getting ready for Kentucky versus Louisville.
Speaker 2 (00:14):
You can give us a call in the Clark's Pumping
Shot phone line.
Speaker 1 (00:16):
That's eight five nine two eight oh two two eight
seven Texas at five o two two six five sixty
six five six and is always the case. Our pre
show is brought to you by Italics Fine Italian Dining
in Lexington, Kentucky. Today we're in Southern Indiana at Bear Knows,
getting ready for the game.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Shannon, check out this crowd, man, How awesome.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
What a great crowd. You know, I was kind of
I was wondering I should never doubt our fan base
because this game being so early, being on a Tuesday, normally,
you know, it's on a Saturday a lot of times,
and we have these Friday remotes. We expect a big crowd.
But give it up for yourselves for being here. This
is a great crowd we have this morning. Big thanks
for being here. I drove right by the umpsitting this morning.
I threw the l's down when I was going across
(00:54):
the bridge and it is the most exciting game of
the year. I don't care when they play it. They
could play this game on a Sunday during church and
I'm convinced we would have this bigger crowd here for
this show.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Can you still call it a rivalry? Kentucky's won fifteen
of the last eighteen.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
They won the last three. Can anybody remind me what
happened last.
Speaker 1 (01:12):
Year when Kentucky beat the Cards and Lama Butler scored
how many points?
Speaker 3 (01:16):
Shannon, I can't remember, but it was a lot. How
many was it?
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Thirty three?
Speaker 3 (01:20):
Thirty three, thirty three? All I remember is that Mark
Pope had Pat Kelcey like in a headlock.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Oh yeah, I remember that, the scuffle on the bench.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
And Pat Kelcey was like, you know, punching Mark Pope
at his knees.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
Well, I'm not sure if the game will match the
intensity of cal and Patino back in the day, But
look Pope and Kelsey, second meeting between the two, I mean,
these guys like each other too much. This is when
it starts to get real, Shannon, when Kentucky beats them
down again after Louisville calls themself point guard. You. I
think there's gonna be some definite animosity after the game today.
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, I mean, these two coaches definitely have a mutual
respect for each other. But what we needed was that
that little gas on the fire that we got from
prior the Loibile player. After their last game, he was
asked about Kentucky. His answer was blank them. We're gonna
see who's gonna get blanked up tonight when Kentucky comes
into Louisville at the Young Center and takes over their place.
Speaker 1 (02:12):
Yeah, so we'll talk a lot about that today eight
pm tip off at the Center.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
We'll talk about that throughout the show.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Here at Bar Knows Pizza, serving Louisville style pizza since
nineteen seventy seven.
Speaker 2 (02:23):
Also, Happy Veterans Day.
Speaker 1 (02:25):
Any active military or former military in the crowd today.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
There we go, sir, right there, there's two right there.
Thank you for your subsolutely a.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Round of applause to them and anybody that's served. Shannon,
I am the third. William Decent Rutledge the third. Both
my father and my grandfather served in the military, so
I want to thank them and also show that I'm
the one that needed a radio job.
Speaker 3 (02:46):
That's right. I mean you didn't carry on the family tradition.
Will You're not battling in the trenches.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
All these hands are too soft to you doing anything
like that.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, beto does not work in the military.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
That beta. You gotta be an alpha to be.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
By the way, people who are calling us an old
Mary couple, yesterday, I'm in a better movie.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
You were, man, you were gruppy.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
You know.
Speaker 3 (03:05):
I was talking about yesterday I had to fast because
I had to go give blood, and we talked about that.
I was saying, I might get a little angry, and
I might get angry again today because we're here at
Bear Knows. They've got delicious pizza. We're gonna dig into
that at noon, but I gotta wait until until then,
another three hours. But you were really gruppy yesterday. Yeah,
And I don't know why. Like, what what was all
that about? Oh? It was nothing you want to like, arison, grievances.
Speaker 1 (03:27):
It's just a combination of the's no excuses, Shannon. But
I am so ready to go. There's nothing.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
You want to hug it out right now, give me
a hug. All right, There we go, All right, there
we go. There we go look at that. Now we
feel good.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Shannon's going to UK football games. He's giving me a hug.
He's just a completely different person. I think he's turned
to new leave.
Speaker 3 (03:42):
Don't get used to it. We'll be arguing before the
show is I'm sure.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
I'm sure you're right. Eight five nine two eight oh
two two eight seven. It's a big day.
Speaker 1 (03:49):
The Cats take on the Cards and it's early. Man,
it's weird having it this early, isn't it? And there's
snow on the ground. It almost looks like it's the
normal time that we should be playing it. But before
the football game is just an odd date, is it
not so?
Speaker 3 (04:01):
I think Mark Pope blames Pat Kelcey for this scheduling snaffo.
I don't really like it. I don't like the fact
that we get two basketball games before we get the
football game. But again, it doesn't really matter when you
play it. It doesn't take away the fact that Lobell
is our biggest rivalry the Ribbal. They always will be,
even though Kentucky has owed him as you played on them,
and it always just feels like a special game. Except
(04:22):
for the Kenny Payne era that was really just pathetic.
I don't even know what that was. Well, that's when
the apathy set in. Yeah, we almost felt bad.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
For Cards fans with how bad can now We didn't
feel bad, nobody felt bad right there, but it was
it was just pitiful like that whole just a couple
of years was really weird.
Speaker 3 (04:39):
But now I feel like we're getting back to it
a little bit. I don't know that it will. I
don't want to say ever, but I think it'll be
a while before we get back to how heated it
was when cal and Patino were the coach and you.
Speaker 2 (04:49):
Think that was just the Patino element and how much.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
Cal habsolutely, Well, it's all the history is the fact
that Patino was the coach here, then he was at
our our bitter, bitter rival, and then Cali Perry not
like Patino, Patino not liking Caliperi. It was that.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
I think that added a lot to it. But this
is the best in sports. When I moved up here
from Florida, I didn't know much about the rivalry. I
was driving on the interstate and there was not a
single car there, and I asked my parents.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
I was like, what's going on.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Ended up being the day of the uku of L
basketball game, Shannon, this state shuts down for this game.
Speaker 2 (05:20):
And I think that's probably the best thing about sports.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
When Kentucky beats Louisville tonight, when you're at the water
cooler at the office the next day, you get to
brag a little bit and say, Ninna and a boo boo,
we won the game. Is that what we get to say?
That's what I would say at the water cooler.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
If if you were going to explain how much this
means to our fan base, I would go back to
the year and you guys probably remember this when there
were two guys on dialysis that were getting diallas and
they got into a fight against each other, And I said,
if you want to sum up, just in one example,
how much this means to the fan bases, you would
(05:56):
tell somebody from out of state that, hey, do you
do your fans fight when receiving dialysis? I don't think so.
Our fans do that. And you could talk about Duke
North Carolina being the greatest rivalry in college basketball. I
don't think it's close because you only get this game
one time of year, Duke. You know, you get the
home and home and home with those two teams playing
sometimes three times they play in the conference tournament. So
(06:18):
the fact that Kentucky and Lobell aren't in the same conference,
you only get that one time of year. I think
this is the greatest robbery in college basketball.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
Playing every year since the Dream Game. The one thing
Denny Crumb did right was made these two teams play.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
And you're right. I heard Nick Coffee play that audio.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
That that incident really old man, and the guy's like,
well he was talking crap.
Speaker 2 (06:36):
I wasn't gonna let him tasse about it.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
You could have could You could have a Kentucky and
a Lobell fan on their deathbed and if they could
reach over across the bed, they would be punching each other.
Speaker 2 (06:46):
And I feel the house is divided.
Speaker 1 (06:48):
You know, there's some people out there, anybody here, their spouse,
significant others, see, they.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Know what it's like.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
Loser sleeps on the couch tonight.
Speaker 1 (06:56):
Huh maybe two nights a year that you guys are
gonna be definitely at odds and it is definitely tonight. Well, heck,
that's enough about Louisville, Shannon. Let's talk about the Cats.
This is a Kentucky team that's number eight. In the country.
Now they're number one in Kem Palm. When you're looking
at the analytics and the numbers, I mean, this is
even without Jaden Quainton's Janden Low came and played his
(07:17):
first game. He looked so good, Shannon, I cannot wait
for the battle tonight between him and Michel Brown.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
Yeah, I was worried about the defense. Then the offense
struggled a little bit early in the year in those
exhibition games against Georgetown in particular, and then it looks
like they've worked that out last night or last week.
Yeh scored fifty eight points in the first half. You know,
I wonder, like, what do you think the pacing of
this game is going to Because I was looking at
the over under it was like one hundred and seventy
(07:42):
four and a half or something like that. That feels high,
But then you look at how many points Kentucky scored
last game. I can't really get a good feel yet
if this game tonight's gonna be played in the seventies
or eighties or even higher than that.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
Both teams will play up tempo.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
Actually, Pat Kelsey said he sees a lot of Kentucky
in his own Louisville team.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
They will play up Temph. Oh, they're very deep, ten
eleven players deep.
Speaker 3 (08:03):
So I think we'll get a lot of three point
attempts too, a lot of threes. You know, Pope's been
talking about trying to get to thirty. He's been close
in just about every game. I think twenty eight attempts
last game. So I wouldn't be surprised if Lobill tries
to match the same same playing style.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
Well, all we've heard from Louisville fans is that Jaden
Quaintance isn't going to be playing for the Cats, and
you know, maybe they scheduled this game early so they
could avoid Jade Aquaintance. But the way Malachai Moreno has
been playing Shannon, I'm not going to say he's up
there with the guy that's going to be a top
five pick, but man, he has surprised a lot of people,
not you though.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
As somebody that called it early on that he was
going to be a contributor.
Speaker 3 (08:38):
Yeah, I like to say that I'm a ballner. I
have no talent when I'll see it.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
So I saw Marian all right, I've given a few
much crowd, I take that back.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Well, I'm just going to tell you this. I don't
know that you're going how many points did he have
last game? Eighteen eighteen. I don't have to say we're
going to get eighteen from them every game. But I'm
also going to tell you that's not going to be
the last time that we see a big performance from him.
He's going to have a couple I think this.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
Year eighteen ten assists, no turnovers.
Speaker 1 (09:01):
Man Amari Williams played such a good like point center
role last year. I'm not saying Malachi Moreno's that, but
he is serviceable from somebody just transitioning from high school.
And then of course you've got a guy like otega
Oway Shannon, somebody that had double digits in the Louisville game.
I think they had four or five guys in double
digits in the Louisville game last year, and I expect
him to do it again today.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
I think he and Lowe I think are gonna be
you know, the back court I think is gonna be
very much depended on to contribute tonight, and I think
a lot of a lot of three's are gonna go
down uh oh way. I would expect to have a
big night as well. You know last year we talked
about this. We just took him for granted so much.
Fifteen points at least every single game, just write it down.
And he was consistent. He only had a couple of
(09:42):
games where he didn't score double digits. So again, if
they're gonna win tonight, they gotta have big production from
their back court.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
A five nine two eight h two two hit seven.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
If you'd like to join the show, or you can
always text us at five oh two two six five
six six five six. I'm trying to think back of
us being here last year, Shannon, and what we thought
about kent Y Basketball and Mark Pope back then. Yeah,
I mean it was still there was still a lot
of question marks, right, I mean, even though they had
the revival at rop and they started well early on
in the season, you didn't know how good Mark Pope
(10:11):
would be, how well he could coach. And Shannon a
year from now or a year later, I think BBN
is falling in love with the guy, and optimism is high.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Well, It's amazing how quickly you can get people to
flip on certain things. I mean, just my Mark Stews
just to say, just sidebar for a minute, Kentucky football
two weeks ago, he couldn't get rid of him quick enough.
Then yesterday, if you listened to the callers, you thought
he was the greatest coach ever. So it's a fickle
fan base. But it's not just this fan base. That's
why sports, as Ryan would say, it is awesome. Yeah right,
because you get to change your opinion from week to
(10:40):
week depending on what happened in the game. But yeah,
Mark Pope was a guy that came in. He had
some doubters. I was one of them. I'll admit that
I needed to see it for myself. You know, you're
replacing a Hall of Fame coach with a guy at
the time who had never even won an NCAA tournament game. Yeah,
but you know, as the season went on, I think
I came around to row that it was a good hire.
(11:01):
You know, Mark Pope gets this fan base. He is
one of us. He's played here. He realizes how much
all of this means to our fans. And I think
Cali Perry was sort of, you know, sometimes out of
touch with things like that, but Mark Pope gets it
from U.
Speaker 1 (11:13):
I mean, cal brought a lot to this university, but
Pope being an alumnus of it, just understood when he'd
go up in the stands and talk to somebody in
a wheelchair after a long road game, he'd wait until
the final person at Rapperena leaves. He's signing autographs until then.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
I saw a video just the other day of a
couple that proposed. It was like, I guess after the
game the other night, proposed and he was holding like
the the camera. It looked like it was like congratulating
the couple. You know. It's like little things like that
just show you how much he gets it here at
Kentucky Now.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
He absolutely does.
Speaker 1 (11:44):
So I'm excited to see where he can take this
Kentucky team to the Sweet sixteen. Last year, I think
expectations are higher for that. But that's just Kentucky and
we'll see how this season shakes out. But we'll talk
more Kentucky Louisville. Today Shannon mentioned Kentucky football. We got
to mention some things that have happened with that and
Calzado drama. I think that's finally ending now. But man,
this is always one of my favorite shows of the year.
(12:05):
Shannon here at Bear Knows we always pick out on
some pizza afterwards, So looking forward to doing with that.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
With you, Bud.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yeah, they've been serving Louisville style pizza since nineteen seventy seven,
even before me. Bear Knows has been around, and they've
got Ta Kentucky locations three in Indiana as well, Dina
or carry out stop by your neighborhood Bear Knows today
in this one in particular today. Yeah, you're at Charlestown Crossing.
Speaker 2 (12:26):
I mean it may be.
Speaker 1 (12:26):
Packed, it's gonna be standing room only by the time
some more people come in. So do appreciate everybody that's here.
Let's get excited for a big game tonight. It is
the KASR pre Show and we will be right back,
all right, welcome back. It is the KSR pre Show
with a great crowd here at Bear Knows in Southern Indiana,
in New Albany at three thousand and two Charlestown Crossing,
(12:48):
Come hang out with us. Marcia and the crowd both
gave us a gift, including a book that is What's the.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
Jokes for eight year Old? Jokes for eight year Olds?
And I thought I would read one for you right
now and see if we can't get this crowd. You
think this crowd has eight year old humor. It looks
like it may be a tough crowd. I don't know.
We'll see.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Well, let's try to get some jokes in before Ryan
takes the book home, so Shannon will get maybe one
a segment here.
Speaker 3 (13:11):
All right, I feel like this one's kind of like
appropriate for today. What do you what do you tell
a pack of cards with a lot of problems?
Speaker 2 (13:19):
What?
Speaker 3 (13:20):
What do you call? You gotta you gotta repeat it back?
What do you tell a pack of cards with a
lot of problems?
Speaker 2 (13:25):
I tell a pack of cards with a lot of problems.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
I don't know, deal with it. So we're gonna tell
Lobell tonight when we go in there and beat them,
deal with it.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
There you go, deal.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
We've got a few few laughs.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
You were right, it is a tough crowd.
Speaker 1 (13:38):
But man, packed in here, love everybody coming out and
hanging out with us. We don't do enough shows around here, Shannon.
We always see that with the amount of people that show.
Speaker 3 (13:45):
But you know, I mean lowpll has so many Kentucky
fans we talk about, you know, the fans that are
fans of Kentucky that have to, you know, put up
with all the other fan bases that are in the state,
and there's not many. I mean, you know, if you're
in southern Kentucky, you get Tennessee fans that you have
to deal with you if you're on that border. But
then here in Louisville, I mean, the Kentucky fans they
have to put up with all these Lobell fans and
(14:05):
they've been quiet for years, but now they're starting to,
you know, get a little chesty now now that they're
back in the top twenty five.
Speaker 2 (14:11):
For no reason.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
I mean like, yeah, they got a good team they
got before, you get chesty.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
Yeah, I mean, let's.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
I mean, I know they're scoring one hundred points, but
let's play somebody first. Now, this is gonna be a
fun day with the rivalry and the back and forth,
but also a reminder to not take it too far. Currently,
there's a warrant out for the arrest of a Texas
man for terroristic threatening of Jeff brom his wife and children,
Brian Brohm, and Miller Moss. Somebody really didn't take that
loss to cal Well for the Louisville Cardinals. So Shannon
(14:40):
with the you know, the trolling of Zach Calzada, recently,
and this news out of Texas, which is which is despicable.
Speaker 2 (14:46):
By the way. I can't imagine being the brom family
having to deal with this. I do want a PSA.
Speaker 1 (14:51):
We can take it too far sometimes and just make
sure you watch what you say.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Absolutely, yeah, I mean, and a guy in Texas, of
all places, is sort of strange. That would be in Texas,
not here in Kentucky. But yeah, I mean, I would
never write a fan or a coach. I don't think
anybody else should either. I can't condone that behavior. But
as we see, fans do that a lot of times.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
And people with their Twitter fingers. Man, yeah, I mean,
how many times does tell somebody tell me I'm low
on the likability scale, but come up to me in
person and say how awesome of a person?
Speaker 3 (15:19):
Because you got to understand, and I've told you this,
Twitter is not real life, all right, Nobody has ever
said anything like that to you in person. I'll tell
you that. All the time people send all these awful
messages about how unlikable you are or I am or
whatever it is. But how many times has somebody ever
told you that to your face? Not one time?
Speaker 2 (15:35):
One time?
Speaker 3 (15:35):
So Twitter is not real life. You have to understand that.
And if you're going to be on Twitter, just realize
it's it's fake.
Speaker 1 (15:41):
And don't tweet athletes. I mean, do not tweet these guys,
even professional athletes. I mean, you don't need to be
in the dms of these people talking about the bet
that didn't hit right.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Yep. And Mark Stoops basically said yesterday that we moved
on past the cow Zada thing. He realized he made
a mistake, he apologized. They've disciplined him. I guess probably
by not putting them in right when there was a
blowout against Florida over the weekend.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
When Stoops addressed it on the call in show last
night and his press conference, calling an immature and a mistake.
But he also defended his players against the criticism from
Cholls trolls. He talked about mental health in the things
like the NFL and in college sports. So I'm sure
it's not easy a lot of times. Even though you
make all this money, there are some other things that
come with it.
Speaker 3 (16:22):
Yep. And I was saying a lot of these guys
are eighteen, nineteen, twenty years old. Cal's out of twenty five,
I get it. He should be more mature and understand
you shouldn't do that, especially, but he did. He made
a mistake and we move on.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
Boy, we got Stoops in a good mood though yesterday,
And how can you not.
Speaker 2 (16:36):
Be momentums rolling with Kentucky?
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Is there anybody better when they're back is against the
wall than Mark Stoops. I don't think I've ever seen
a more resilient coach than Mark Steeles and the.
Speaker 2 (16:46):
Coach killer too.
Speaker 1 (16:47):
I mean, how many coaches has he gotten fired after
a big win like he did versus Auburn. But you know,
he was joking with one of the callers who had
a hoarse voice, and he was like, that's not from
yelling at me like in previous weeks, right Yeah, And
you know you couldn't help it smile for Stoops. You know,
he's been through a lot this year. We've talked about
the criticism he's taken. It seems like he was able
to let loose a little.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
To go from where we were just two weeks ago
to even be having a conversation about a possible bowl game.
It's pretty crazy, you know. I Mean it looked like
they were just down and out and the three four
win predictions were going to come true, and now it
looks like at least there's a chance. And you got
projections of you know, Kentucky going to Memphis and playing
in the Liberty Bowl. I'm not going to go that
far yet, but it just shows you how quickly in
(17:29):
two weeks the momentum can swing.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Yeah, And I guess one thing that is key as
we hit the end of this year is continuity, right,
And we've seen Cutter bully take over this offense and
steadily approve improve.
Speaker 2 (17:41):
Every single game.
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Can you imagine another offseason with him here if he
decides to stay. I mean, Cutter just looks like to
have a different talent than Kentucky's seen at the quarterbacks.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Yeah, I mean, he has grown up so much just
this season. I can't wait to see like another offseason
develop him a little bit, get them even more comfortable
with the offense. And you know that's all so assuming
Bushamon is going to be around for another year. Yeah,
but we do need the continuity. You're right, Like we've
had too much turnover, too much turnover at the offensive
coordinator position.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
Somebody that's been around for a while is Brad White.
Speaker 1 (18:11):
Shannon and I think his resolve was tested after that
Tennessee game. He's come back with two really good games
against Auburn and Florida. This stat comes from Corey Price,
excluding end of half kneel downs Texas, Auburn and Florida
had to combine twenty six drives that started on their
own half of the field against UK. Of those twenty
six drives, Kentucky allowed just three points.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
Yeah, and you can make an argument that the last
two weeks could have been shutouts really, you know, I
mean the Auburn game, you had that interception which gave
Auburn goodfield position to be able to get three yep.
And then you know just last week, Yeah, just last week.
So yeah, I mean the defense has been outside of
that Tennessee game and probably the South Carolina game, they
didn't look good there. So they've had a couple of
games that they they didn't look good, but more often
(18:55):
than not, they've been impressive this year.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
Okay, so how do you feel?
Speaker 1 (18:58):
I mean, we'll talk more basketball in a second, but
you got three games left, Shannon, Yeah, gotta be Tennessee Tech.
I mean, you have to teams SEC school. You take
care of business when you when you play a team
like that, and then you got your Vanderbilt and then
these dirty Louisville Cardinals, Shannon.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Who just lost to Cal. It's on the table.
Speaker 3 (19:17):
Everything's on the table. Yeah, I mean, I think that
Kentucky wins two out of three here and ends up
in a bowl game. I'm just saying, of all the things,
and that would be so Mark stoops because when we
count him down and out, he comes back and wins
two out of three and goes to a.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Ball Look, I mean, bowl games are a benchmark for
this program. If he gets to six, he has earned it, Shannon.
The adversity that they battled through this year is a
lot and if he were to get to six, I
think rightly.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
So he should probably.
Speaker 3 (19:45):
And Lobo has proven they can lose to anybody, and
they just lost it home to col So I mean
you think, Okay, it's crazy to say Kentucky could win
two out of three.
Speaker 1 (19:53):
It's really not when you look at what just happened.
And Vandy isn't as good as they were last year.
They still have Papa. But I mean, look, I mean
the if the Kentucky that's played those last two games
shows up.
Speaker 2 (20:02):
I think anything's possible and anything is for sure.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
Let me tell you this segment of sponsored by DraftKings

It's amazing how little TV I've watched with the Disney
YouTube TV dispute going on. Yeah, I mean I used
to just throw this, you know, the game on or whatever. ESPN,
what's going on? I don't even turn the TV on now?
Did you see the development YouTube TV is offering a
twenty dollars credit to their customers because they didn't have
Disney but yet Jenn and they have to redeem it.
You have to go to a link and file out
(21:18):
paperwork to get your twenty dollars. They can't just take
it off your bill.
Speaker 4 (21:23):
Didn't.
Speaker 3 (21:23):
We just have this conversation next month that's gonna be
on why she's fired up about it too. I was
telling you about that, you know, like, if you've ever
had to like file for a rebate, they make you
jump through so many hoops at the point and you
get to the end, You're like, I don't even want
it's not even worth it. It's just twenty bucks, you know.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
But I mean, I gotta I gotta click through three
pop ups to get them to get me on auto payep.
But yet they can't take twenty dollars off of my
bill automatically.
Speaker 2 (21:48):
It's ridiculous, how hypocritical.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
I agree. And again I'm just gonna get go ahead
and tell you if anybody's got YouTube TV, the game's
on ESPN tonight. Correct. Yes, okay, so you can't it
because you've got YouTube TV, YouTube dot com. Find our

You know at the bottom of the screen, you can
watch the game for free.
Speaker 2 (22:22):
Okay, Well, that's that's how you watch the game tonight.
We need to take a break.
Speaker 1 (22:26):
We'll be right back here at Southern Indiana at Bear Knows.
It is the KSR pre Show. Welcome back. It is
the KSR pre Show Live here Bear Knows in Southern
Indiana with Shannon the Dude will hand it off to
Matt and the guys at ten am. Eight pm tonight
is UK Louisville, So join us for the five thirty
pm pre game show at KS Bar and Grille. Shannon
(22:49):
the Dude is alongside Shannon. One person on the text
line says, chances Brandon Garrison fights someone tonight.
Speaker 3 (22:54):
Oh, I've already said there's going to be somebody getting
teed up in the first five minutes of this game.
You don't, as a Lobo player say blank them in
a press conference and not expect to get it back.
Otaga Oway was asked about it. He just said, yep,
I just can't wait to see him. I can't wait
to see him on the floor. That was his response.
Speaker 2 (23:10):
So, yeah, your pride is tested when somebody says something
like that.
Speaker 3 (23:14):
I think it's gonna be a chippy game. It always
has been in the past with these two two with
these two teams, So I think there's gonna be uh
some some fireworks early in the game.
Speaker 2 (23:22):
Yep, no doubt. Who do you think would be the
enforcer of the team this year is at Garrison?
Speaker 3 (23:27):
It might be, but you don't want your starter to
be the enforcers with not a lot of depth at
that position.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
You want like get kicked out now, Brandon, Yeah, you
were going to afford a tech, but you getting ejected
would be tough.
Speaker 3 (23:38):
Who's at the end of the bench. Potter's Potter's potter.
I don't know if he's her enforcer.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
Yeah, we didn't see him a lot. You know, I
really liked Mo Diabante being at the five. I mean,
if you want to play small talk about a guy
that's not gonna take.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Crap from anybody tonight.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Do you think Yellow Bitch has got enough dog in him?
I mean he's a big guy.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
Not yet.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
Yeah, I think he's got it in him, but he's like,
I don't think he's polished enough right now. The out
difference between him and Big Z, though, is is is
a lot. You could tell he's a He is a
very talented player, Shannon. One in three Americans struggle to
do five push ups.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
Really, yeah, one in three can't do Fifty.
Speaker 1 (24:13):
Percent of Americans struggle to do ten straight. If you
can do fifty push ups, you are stronger than ninety
nine percent of people in this court.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
I guess I'm stronger than ninety nine percent of people
in this guy too, But eat a bunch of WEEKLNG too, buddy,
You don't think you got Did you get that that many?
How many did you do? You do it? Forty?
Speaker 2 (24:30):
I did forty? That was like three four years ago.
Speaker 4 (24:33):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (24:34):
Not doing push ups today, sir, No, no, thank you
will not be doing They want you to prove it.
Speaker 1 (24:40):
Speaking of strength, though, tell me what Actually, let's go
to the phone straight. If I'm nine to two too,
eight seven, get to some random topics in a bit.
We've got some people on the line. Who's up next? Right?
Speaker 2 (24:49):
Got Kurt up next? What's up?
Speaker 3 (24:51):
Kurt?
Speaker 2 (24:51):
How are you.
Speaker 4 (24:54):
Pretty good.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Doing?
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Great man? What do you got for us?
Speaker 4 (24:59):
Uh? I've gotten nickname for cutter? Okay, well, I thought
we'd call him bird eye.
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Bowley, call him what say it again? Bird eye bony,
bird eye bully?
Speaker 2 (25:20):
And why would you call it that?
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Well?
Speaker 4 (25:25):
You take the uh, you take the way he throws
that ball and sits and robbing the hands of the receivers.
It's like he's looking down on him from above like
a bird.
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Okay, let's work with this a little bit. How about
instead of bird eye bully, cat eye, cutler or cutter?
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Want to say Cutler. Cutter Cutler, that's that's the guy
that wants to fight me. Okay, well, uh, I don't
know about that nickname, Shandon. We'll working on it. No,
Cutter is also a great football name already, honestly exactly. Yeah,
So I think Cutter isn't something that we need to change.
(26:07):
But he's been playing great and hopefully he can stay
at Kentucky. I think that's gotta be.
Speaker 2 (26:11):
I'd rather have Cutter here than Stoops next year. What
would you say to that?
Speaker 3 (26:15):
I don't know. I don't know. Let's just again, let's
let the season play out.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
No, no, make a decision here we're on the radio.
Would you rather have Stoops or Cutter Bowley on the
team next year?
Speaker 2 (26:26):
Raise your hand for Cutter?
Speaker 3 (26:27):
I think everybody's saying, yeah, raise your hand for Stoops.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
Yeah it is nine.
Speaker 4 (26:35):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (26:35):
I mean that's how important a quarterback is. When you
look around college football, you see these teams like Indiana
and Vanderbilt reload with a new coach and a whole
new transfer portal, Like why not Kentucky?
Speaker 2 (26:46):
You get that quarterback spot right, and you know things
can really happen.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
Yeah, and he's still young too, and he's got, you know,
several years that he could potentially be here at Kentucky.
And if you're like Calazada and you get seven years,
then I guess we get what six more years with them?
Five more years something like that. I mean, a man
can I don't even know how that works anymore, Like
how do these guys like Pavia like get the stick
around for that long?
Speaker 4 (27:04):
Well?
Speaker 1 (27:05):
Like Juco, I don't think counts as a year to
j eligibility. You can have a medical red shirt that
takes a year and there was like is the COVID
year finally over and nail and you can take a
year off like it's It is a little odd with
taff Calzada in his last year at Kentucky being remembered
for something other than football.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
It seems like so, I mean, it just depends on
if you think that Cutter is going to stick around
until his senior year or you think that Stoops would
be around for another three years.
Speaker 1 (27:30):
Speaking of quarterbacks, I do feel for a guy like
Matthew Stafford. You've heard of him, right, Shannon, of course,
seventeen years in the NFL. He's a super Bowl winning
quarterback and with his last win on Sunday. He is
finally five hundred overall record in the NFL. That's how
bad his teams were with the Detroit Lions yet, and
he was losing so many games that all the success
he's had, he is now only a five hundred.
Speaker 2 (27:52):
Overall record quarterback.
Speaker 3 (27:53):
And Den Campell's really turned him around though. At Detroit.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
I mean they are well he's the Rams now, oh
is he? So it shows you what I know about
the Lions. I thought he was still with the Lions.
Well that's why they lost so.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
Many games because he was with the Lions.
Speaker 1 (28:06):
But even when you have a great quarterback, it's about
the supporting cast around you and and maybe even the coach.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
Absolutely. So do you think that Kentucky football moving forward
looking at next year? I mean, do we have the
schedule already?
Speaker 5 (28:18):
Right?
Speaker 3 (28:18):
Do you think that they're gonna be able to get
back to a bowl game next year with Cutter?
Speaker 2 (28:24):
Well, the offseason's got to be different, right, Yeah.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
The way the coaching staff and the program interacts with
the fan base has to be different. You're gonna have
to go out in the transfer portal and get some dudes.
Gonna have to reload on the offensive line, because you're
gonna lose a lot of people.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
But look, it's possible. I mean, when you have a quarterback,
you have a lot. So it's gonna be interesting, though
without Vince Merrill. What the recruiting looks like without him?
You know, he's been such an important part of getting
these guys to commit to Kentucky. Without him, what does
that look like in the offseason? Of course, again, let's
just get through this season before we start getting too
heavy in that's right.
Speaker 1 (28:56):
A few games left, including Tennessee Tech this weekend two
eight oh two to eight seven.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
Who's up next? On the phone wreck?
Speaker 3 (29:02):
Kentucky gas Man?
Speaker 2 (29:03):
Is up next? Kentucky gas Man? How are you.
Speaker 1 (29:08):
Good?
Speaker 4 (29:08):
Ain't Shannon?
Speaker 5 (29:09):
I just want to go on records saying I never
mentioned the name that stream sur.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
Did streaming YouTube YouTube dot com. Yeah, people know it exists.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
It's like he's endorsed by this streaming.
Speaker 3 (29:23):
I don't care. I'm just trying to help you all out.
I didn't even the media bile thing.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
I don't think it's gonna be much of the game tonight.
I think we win pretty handily about at least twenty
and I think j Lowe has a twenty five points
and uh, one more thing. I've been wanting to ask
this for a while. It seems like it's every Tuesday,
and it seems like it's the same song that's always
asking the first break? What is the deal with the
(29:53):
Mexican song?
Speaker 3 (29:55):
What tongue is it?
Speaker 4 (29:58):
There's a Mexican song that play a Mexican song. Yeah,
I have no.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Idea you're already talking about.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
Is that playing during a commercial break? Kentucky gas man?
Speaker 3 (30:13):
Okay, I have no idea.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Just the Grimlins that were radio stations they like to
play little Mexican music on Tuesdays. It's Taco Tuesday. Yeah,
all right, thanks for the calling. All right, thank you
Kentucky gas Man. Well, yeah, I mean get you in
the right mood for Tuesday. Right.
Speaker 3 (30:30):
I've never heard that, and it really depends on like
what station you're listening on or if you're listening on
the iHeartRadio app, you're gonna get different commercials than people
listening listening in different parts.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
One thing I do want to say this was announced
just recently. My eighteen year old brother Brady has announced
he's going to Kentucky next year in the fall.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
Nice Now, is he an athlete.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
He's not going to be.
Speaker 1 (30:50):
Playing any sports. He's gonna, I think, major in finance.
I'm probably embarrassing him not mentioning it now. But Shannon,
if you don't think I'm gonna be at the frat parties,
at the college parties, really, Oh, I'm.
Speaker 3 (31:02):
Got your age. You're gonna be the old age. You're
in your thirties now, okay, old man, I'm not at
pushing nifty talking at parties. I'm not trying to hang
out with sorority girls at thirty one.
Speaker 2 (31:14):
I'm just going to hang with the boys.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Shane. Oh okay, I'm sure my wrestl will be perfectly
fine with that.
Speaker 2 (31:20):
Oh yeah, maybe like midnight on a Thursday. Oh yeah, Thursday. Sorry, Hey, babe,
see you.
Speaker 3 (31:27):
Let's see, where's my thirty year old fiance always hanging
out with frat kids?
Speaker 1 (31:31):
No, but but seriously, it does mean a lot for
him to go to Kentucky. I'm gonna be able to
be close to him so he can come crash.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
If he needs to.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Uh yeah, And so you know, do you have any
advice for him?
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Uh? Don't join a frat. Yeah, that'd be my advice.
Speaker 3 (31:43):
I always thought that was weird, like you had to
pay people to be your friend, Like I always thought
that's what.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
Well, look I wouldn't do it over again.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Like I love those guys. I mean they're gonna be
at my wedding U next year. But at the same time,
I mean I probably could have done the same thing
without paying that.
Speaker 3 (31:55):
Like, wait, I gotta drink beer from a boot before
you'll be my friend, and then I gotta pay to
be what what this? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (32:00):
And like the friend process was a lot different back then.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
Sounds like you know what I mean, Like there's a big,
you know, ten pound rock in the middle of the yard,
Go move it over there and.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Then they have it back.
Speaker 2 (32:09):
Can just make you do stupid things.
Speaker 3 (32:11):
And I was not in fraance at all, did not
do that. Yeah, it wasn't asked either, So that's okay.
Well I was fine, Yeah I did really.
Speaker 1 (32:20):
Two eight zero two two eight seven Chan and tell
me what you think about this. There's a Chinese startup
named Lenov Biosciences and their claim to be developing an
anti aging pill using a compound from grape seed extract
that targets something called zombie cells. Their goal is to
have people live to the age of one hundred and fifty.
(32:40):
But if you have a proper lifestyle and medical care
right now, with the help of their supplement, they can
They're saying that they can get you to one hundred
and twenty.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (32:50):
Really, yeah, so I could get potentially eighty more years
of radio.
Speaker 1 (32:56):
I think we'd ask you, the one holding it down,
We'll probably ask you a stuff away in ten fifteen years?
Speaker 2 (33:01):
Yeah sometime, oh ten years.
Speaker 3 (33:03):
Really want year? I want to even make it to
Ryan Lemon's age. Is that what you're saying? I don't
think speaking of witch here he comes hanging.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
Up by that.
Speaker 3 (33:10):
Yeah, there's Ryan. The people got up that ran got
a pop when he walked in.
Speaker 2 (33:19):
Well he also had the it looked like a Colin
Chandler Duncan shirt.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (33:24):
Now this crowd is starting to lob it up. Okay,
but he's already had a beer this morning or a
fireball shot.
Speaker 4 (33:29):
All right.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Yeah, it's a pretty.
Speaker 3 (33:31):
Good liquored up at nine o'clock in the morning on
a Tuesday. What were we talking about, Shannon, I don't
even know Ryan's shirt.
Speaker 2 (33:38):
Oh yeah, you hanging it up radio in ten years?
Speaker 3 (33:42):
Oh yeah, So if I were you know if this
pill is safe. And the thing about pills is they've
got a million like side effects. If you see these
commercials for like these pills, and half the commercials the
side effects, Yeah, you know they call his hair loss
and cancer and death. And I'm like, why would I
want to take that? Doesn't sound good? But if this
didn't have like a lot of side effects, and you
could tell me that I have a chance to live
(34:03):
to be one hundred and twenty, I would probably take it.
Speaker 1 (34:05):
Well, I don't know, like there's a fascination of living
a long time, living forever by these mega elite Shannon,
But I think that's probably what makes life beautiful, is
that there is a time that you're.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
Gonna go away.
Speaker 3 (34:16):
Yeah, but I don't want it to be anytime soon.
Speaker 1 (34:18):
Yeah, but like you know, the ages one hundred to
one hundred and twenty, are you really living at that point?
Speaker 3 (34:23):
Oh yeah, I'm gonna be living it up.
Speaker 2 (34:25):
I mean you're probably just hanging out.
Speaker 3 (34:27):
I'll be down and down at the beach, probably hosting
a booty shaking contest at one hundred and fifteen.
Speaker 2 (34:31):
You can't keep this lifestyle up, Oh yeah, I carry can. No,
It's just not it's not gonna be Ryan walked in.
Speaker 1 (34:38):
I believe he had the Colin Chandler dunking shirt on. Man,
how good is how good is he looking? He's great
when he's not the point guard.
Speaker 3 (34:44):
Yeah, he's been great and that dunk it just again,
I didn't know he could jump like that. I know
that Matt said that he knew that he could. I
didn't know that he could do it like that. And
he has been a big part of this team early on.
I think he's going to continue to be a big
part of the team as well. And a big jump
from last year.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
You know. Yeah, drew the head of the Colin Chandler
fan club man and you didn't know what to expect
from him. He was playing out of position, but he
was in that off ball role.
Speaker 2 (35:09):
He was really good. Yeah, and so I'm really excited
for Colin Chandler to throw it down again.
Speaker 3 (35:13):
Yeah. Yep. And a guy that last year I didn't
think really would get that many minutes, but was kind
of forced into play in more minutes than what he
would have and really just roasted the occasion.
Speaker 1 (35:22):

Speaker 1 (37:14):
Thinking about Oscar Combs this morning, he announced yesterday he
lost his wife, Donna to a battle with cancer. Oscar
obviously the founder of the Cat's Pause, but Donna was
a part of that operation as well, kind of doing
things behind the scenes in the business operation. So as
we all root on the Cats today, and there's nobody
that I want for Kentucky to win more for.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
Than Oscar comes I absolutely love Oscar. You know, he's
such a such a staple in this Kentucky fan base.
And you know, you think about Kentucky sports reporting automatically
think about the Godfather, you know, Oscar Combs Apps and
my heart definitely goes out to Oscar. And as he
put it, Donna was his biggest fan.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
Well, wing win one for Oscar tonight is I think
a great thing that this fan base should do. Uh, Shannon,
it's not just basketball that Kentucky and Louisville are going
to be meeting. UK women's soccer will face Louisville in
the first round of the NCAA Tournament. As if it
was announced Saturday. They will play on Saturday at Lynn
Family Stadium here in Louisville. So, Shannon, a little battle
(38:09):
of the Bluegrass this weekend as well.
Speaker 3 (38:11):
So what does the coverage on that. Do we know
what will be?
Speaker 2 (38:14):
I don't know. Can you watch it anywhere YouTube dot com?
Speaker 3 (38:18):
There will be a streamer. If you tip them ten dollars,
they'll stream it for you.
Speaker 1 (38:21):
Yeah, as long as they're not talking in the background
the entire time, maybe I will give a tip.
Speaker 3 (38:24):
Like you know, last week we had a clean sweep
Kentucky women's basketball, men's basketball, football, volleyball. Maybe we can
do it again.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
That's true.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
I mean yeah, Kentucky Athletics at hot n was it
five and oh over the weekend after all the success
that they had, So hopefully Kentucky can keep it rolling.
Let's take one more call eight five nine two O
two two eight seven. Ricco's up last?
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Here is up?
Speaker 2 (38:45):
Hey, Jake, what's going on?
Speaker 4 (38:48):
Hey guys?
Speaker 3 (38:51):
Hey Jake?
Speaker 2 (38:52):
What's up? Ce Hey? Ca can't Oh? I love it, Jake.
Speaker 3 (39:00):
I'll lead his own cheers. The crowd wasn't with you, Jake.
It's okay. I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
I had to do it though.
Speaker 2 (39:08):
That's the energy. We love, Jake.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
Hope hope to soon Jake.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
Jake just wanted to call in his bell katz for us?
All right, thank you?
Speaker 1 (39:19):
No, look, that's uh, that's that's the energy we need
before this game, Shannon, So tell tell me about it.
Lamont Butler's thirty three points, ten to ten shooting in
the matchup last year versus Louisville.
Speaker 2 (39:29):
Who has the Lamont Butler game this year?
Speaker 3 (39:31):
Oh, that's a great question. I tend to go backcourt,
so I'm thinking of the Jaylen lower otega away. I
think tonight Oway goes off.
Speaker 2 (39:38):
Oh you think so?
Speaker 3 (39:39):
I think this is gonna be his game. I don't
know that he's gonna get thirty three, but if he scores,
you know, in the twenties, twenty five, something like that,
I wouldn't be surprised.
Speaker 1 (39:46):
A lot of attention on Jalen Lowe in the battle
he'll have with Michel Brown. I think it's Denzel Aberdeen.
Speaker 4 (39:51):
Man.
Speaker 1 (39:51):
He plays a little off ball too. He hit a
shot in the corner. He's looked really good so far
from me, So I think it could be a big
night for Denzel. What do you think about Trent Noah?
Does he played tonight?
Speaker 2 (40:00):
We saw him in a boot.
Speaker 3 (40:02):
I don't know the injury update on that. I think
if he can go, this is the type of game
that he would. But again, it's still early in the year.
I know it means a lot to the fan base,
but it's just one game. Yeah, you know, I know
it is the biggest game for a lot of fans. Again,
so I want to reiterate that, But is it worth
putting him out there if he's not at one hundred
percent just to win one game against your rival. You
(40:22):
gotta think long term.
Speaker 1 (40:23):
If your mark, well, he's a Kentucky kid. Man, it
means a lot to understand. I understand it, but you
gotta be healthy. She was already lying to trainers in
Pope trying to get back into the last game. So
I can imagine he is going to do everything in
his power to try to get on the floor. And
why wouldn't you, man, this is why you come to Kentucky, right,
I mean, these are the games, these moments, this fan
base being energized like this. I mean, these moments don't
(40:46):
come around a lot, Shannon, So you got to enjoy
them while you have them in Kentucky, dominating this rivalry,
looking to continue to do so.
Speaker 3 (40:52):
Tonight, you know you gonna go ahead and pick the
game right now since you're not gonna get to do
it on KSR sar, what do you think.
Speaker 1 (40:58):
I think it's a high scoring game, but I do
think the Cats win this one. I'm gonna go eighty nine,
eighty five Kentucky. A lot of points scored in this one,
talent two talented rosters, but I am gonna give it to.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
The Cats, all right. I will save my prediction for
KSR coming up next.
Speaker 1 (41:13):
I definitely wasn't gonna pick Louisville in front of all
these of course, you can't do the mine, you can't
already down are you saying that maybe you believe that
Louisville could win or will win tonight they are the favorite,
but no, that you're not gonna pick them just because
you're looking at Kentucky fans.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
I'm picking Kentucky. They've played really well.
Speaker 3 (41:28):
I'll be gonna say, like, when did you start worrying
about being liked?
Speaker 1 (41:31):
Never?
Speaker 3 (41:32):
What did that start?
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Never?
Speaker 3 (41:33):
Because that's that's a long, long road. Let me tell
you one more time, promo code KSR. You can bet
