Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KSR Pre Show.
Today is Monday, November seventeenth. I am Billy Rutlidge along
with Shannon the Dude. You can give us a call
in the Clark's Pumping Shot phone line. That's eight five
nine two eight oh two two eight seven. Text us
at five O two two six five six six five
six And as always, the KSR Pre Show is brought

(00:21):
to you by Italics Fine Italian Dining in Lexington, Kentucky
at the City Center. I am not there today. I
am in Buffalo, New York, set up in the dining
room of a nice Airbnb, getting ready to head back
to Lexington after KSR later today with Matt Drew and Mario.
It has been a trip, kind of my initiation into

(00:43):
the KSR road trip after eight years. Shannon the Dude
is back in Louisville. You've been on these trips before, Shannon,
are you missing out? Do you feel a little fomo
this morning?

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Absolutely not. I am happy to be here in the
studio in Louisville. I'm glad I did not take that trip.
But first of all, I've got to ask you, Billy, uh,
if you have another head set that's on. Turn that
down because I'm getting an echo coming back to me.
But I'm also hearing like a weird like reverb going
on too where you're at great So I mean I'm asking,
are you broadcasting from the bathroom this morning?

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Or like, where are you in the house?

Speaker 1 (01:13):
No, I'm in a dining room. So are you telling
me this audio is not good enough to broadcast? It
is operate?

Speaker 4 (01:18):
Now.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
I think you had like an open mic somewhere. It
sounds good. Now you're okay, okay, So okay, I got
so many questions. First of all, you're at the airbnb
that we talked about the sleeping arrangements. We were talking
about it on Friday that you were going to have
a bunk bed all to yourself. So I need you
to tell me right now which one did you sleep
on the top of the bottom?

Speaker 1 (01:40):
I slept on the bottom, Shannon.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
So your official bottom guy Friday.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Billy's a bottom guy, breaking news everybody bottom on the
bunk bed. Okay, tried the top and you know, just
wasn't feeling it.

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Have fear of heights up there too high?

Speaker 1 (01:52):
Yeah, it was just a little too high off the ground.
So we went on the bottom, but nobody else used
the bunk bed, so I had options. And you know,
here's the dilemma we find ourselves in right now, Shannon.
Check out time is at ten am here at the airbnb,
so the boys are still asleep. I have not heard
anybody moving around upstairs. We have to have everything packed

(02:12):
and in here in this dining room so they can
clean the rest of the house at ten am, so
we can still do the show here. But you know,
I'm sure they'll be fine and ready to go, but
they're still sleeping in while we're here doing the KSR
pre show. But got the bottom bunk really nice, Aaron,
B and B. I think Matt splurged a little bit.
We have a pool table here that we I completely ran.

(02:33):
Besides the one game Matt played and he won, so
I'm sure you'll hear him take that victory lap later.
But no, it's been a lot of fun. And what's
your next question, Shannon, We'll just start there.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Sounds like you I know that Matt is a habitual
violator of the ten am checkout time, just knowing that
from being on previous road trips, and I'm just going
to tell you that he will he will make sure that,
you know, you guys get to stay there because he'll,
you know, throw a fit and basically threatened to give
them a one star review if they don't let them

(03:03):
stay over for the next couple of hours. So you're
gonna be fine, Okay, You're not gonna get kicked out
or anything. I'm sure they'll they'll be fine with you
stay in until noon.

Speaker 1 (03:10):
So well, speaking of maut, you know, we did a
U turn maybe thirty seconds into the trip, Shannon, so
I did appreciate that. Yeah, he does not hit go
on the GPS, so that has been confirmed as well.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
I thought I was lying about that.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Which is madness. Yeah, constantly zooming in to see which
exit to take instead of just letting you tell him
what it is, right, and then you know, Shann, We've
been listening to a lot of games on the radio,
like the UK game and even like Bill's post game afterwards,
so we we I haven't really been exposed to the
country music, and I guess I'm expecting more of that.
Well later today, You're lucky.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
You're lucky it didn't really travel on a week day
because then you have to listen to Paul Fine Baumb's show,
which is like listening to I don't know, it's like
watching paint dry basically is what it is. I've always said,
Paul fine Bomb's like a dry salad with no dressing
or no nothing. That's that's Paul fine Bomb's show. Now, Okay,
I got to ask you about this too, because the

(04:02):
star of the trip really has been your vintage suitcase,
which looks like it was ordered from an Avon magazine
in nineteen eighty seven. I just retweeted the video that
Mario put out there at Shannon the Dude on Twitter.
If anybody wants to go see that, who hasn't seen
it yet? I got to ask you about this. Why
does your suitcase look so out of date?

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Do you not travel much? Or what is up with
the suitcase?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Well, you know, it's a business trip. Talked a little
bit about this on the postgame show, Shannon. This is
I'm taking this seriously working with the NFL, so we
needed to have, you know, the best luggage around. And
my duffel bag got destroyed recently, so the missus went
out and got me a new suitcase, Shannon, and the
term that well, this year.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
Like a thrift shop or like, where did it come from?

Speaker 1 (04:51):
It was a good will so we were saving a
little money and we gave that suitcase a little new life,
you know as gone viral online as well as another
thing that happened in the car that we'll talk about later. Yeah,
but Shannon, how do you feel about the suitcase? Are
you like it? Or because I'm getting universal hate from
people about the suitcase.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
I mean, look to each their own.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
If you can actually travel in that suitcase that has
no outside pockets at all, I mean it does look
like your grandmother's suitcase that she would have carried around
fifty years ago. But I mean if you can pack
all your stuff in that suitcase and you can function
and be all right with that, then that's on you.
I'm not gonna hate on it. I'm just gonna tell
you that it looks like it's really out of date.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Well it's I mean it's technologically advanced. There's a key
that it can lock the suitcase so I can protect
my belonging.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
Now, what happens when you lose the key? The boys,
what happens when you lose the key? You can't get
to your underwear. You gotta wear the same underwear all
weekend because you lost the key to your suitcase.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
Thought about that, Yeah, I thought about that. So I
have not done that yet, but yeah, we'd be dropping
it off the roof to get that thing open. I
guess if we did lose the key. There's latches inside. Oh,
so you know, everything can stay organized, you know, it's
not just moving around in the suitcase. And there's even
a little slot for your cigarettes. Shannon, So like if
I was traveling around and you know, having a sig

(06:10):
in the nineteen twenties, this is where the perfect place to.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Put my cigarette. That's how you know it's out of date.
It's so your suitcase is so out of date. It
has a cigarette cigarette holder in it to where you
can put your SIGs. But when you're trying you know,
back in the day, you could probably smoke on a
plane when you travel with those. That's how out of
date that thing is.

Speaker 1 (06:28):
Yeah, I don't know if that's fitting in like the
little like luggage carry on thing either, Like that is
it's just a little too big for the modern standard
of bags today. But look, duffel bag got destroyed little
last minute needed a suitcase. We found, you know, a
vintage stylish suitcase and it is definitely a content machine
on this trip. I was also asked to bring snacks

(06:49):
on the trip. Shit.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
I was going to get to that, yeah, yeah, And.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
You know, the boys were early on in the trip,
nobody's saying anything, and I just kind of PLoP a
little veggie trae on the on the center dashboard it
so here you go. Boys got ranch, carrot, broccoli, a
little meat and cheese as well on it. Dig In
boys are like, oh yeah, looks good. Carrots are gone
in a matter of seconds. They're loving it. And then

(07:14):
Mario and Drew turned to social media to blast me
for my veggie trade.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
See, I think that's a bad look. I'm gonna come
to your defense on this.

Speaker 2 (07:21):
First of all, you're being an adult and you're trying
to be healthy, all.

Speaker 1 (07:25):
Right, wealthy.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
If you're a grown ass man and you're eating nerd
gummy clusters as your nutrition on a road trip, I
think that is much more shameful than somebody bringing a
veggie tray. There's nothing wrong with some carrots, some celery,
a little ranch dip. I think that's great for a
road trip. As a matter of fact, when we have
the Allys Bluegown Rider. We always have a veggie tree
on the rider. We got to have that back. Yeah,

(07:46):
my man having my back. I'm not gonna have your
back on that venged suitcase necessarily, but I will have
your back on the veggie trae. That is a person
eating like an adult, unlike a child, eating Nerd gummy
clusters for their road trips.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
Knacks. I'm with you, No, don't worry. We stopped at
a gas station. He got Nerd gummy clusters. Mario got
to make a rib for McDonald's that took twenty minutes
to make. So you know, they they dug into the
suites that they wanted. But Shannon, I you know they
weren't gonna have a vegetable the whole trip, you know,
so you get you get two veggie trays for six

(08:21):
dollars at Myers. And I mean, you think you're helping
the boys out. There's nothing like a good carrot and ranch.
And uh, you know, Drew tweeted that out. It's got
like two hundred thousand views about and and like over
one hundred comments. I mean it's just been constant. You know,
there are people standing in solidarity with us. Shannon, But
I'm gonna keep bringing veggie trayce like this ain't gonna

(08:42):
this ain't gonna deter me from getting it. Everybody to
eat a little bit better and vegie trays are clutch,
And that was probably one of the more eventable bumments
of the trip.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Well, so tell me about uh, tell me about the game.
You guys went to the game, you went to the
Bill's Box, your bucks got destroyed.

Speaker 1 (08:57):
Well, I would not say destroyed. I would say that
was one of the better games in the NFL season.
I was really lucky to see that game, I think,
and probably better for the show. The Bill's won. We
got to talk to Ray Davis and Maxwell Harriston and
Dean Walker in the locker room afterwards. That would be
a little bit more awkward if it was after a loss.
But man, Bill's Mafia is insane, and I'm worried we

(09:19):
lost Drew. Like there is a Chancey buys a house
starts tailgating for all of these eight to nine home
games that they get every year. Titans, you know they've
just lost a fan. Because Drew was in heaven. I
was blown away by the experience. I mean, people doing
tequila shots and washing it down with a Buffalo wing.
Just you know, constant partying going on as we get

(09:41):
Matt walking down the stairs now here the first one
coming down. It was pretty incredible and honestly, like on
a personal note, like my first NFL game as credentialed
media was really special, Shannon. I mean, this is something
I've wanted to do for a while. So the opportunity
to do this with Matt and Drew and Mario was
was really cool. To be on the fueled after the game,
go into the locker room, get shoved around by reporters

(10:04):
and things like that. I mean, it was it was
a really special moment for me personally. But you know,
doing the Kentucky games, I don't get to tailgate, so
like to see that tailgating scene from Bill's Mafia.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Was was crazy.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
Shannon's just unreal. You've seen some of the videos Mario's
posted all that.

Speaker 2 (10:19):
Yeah, yeah, well the tailgating at Kentucky doesn't even compare
it to Buffalo. I mean, those guys are doing crazy stuff,
stuff I've never even seen before. There was one guy
who had like a file cabinet and in each side,
in each drawer they had food cooking inside of there.

Speaker 3 (10:35):
I didn't even know you could do that.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
They took like old file cabinets out of an office
and then you pull up, pull up in one drawer
and there's like ribs in there, and then you pull
up in the other drawer there's burgers in.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
There, and then the other draw there's hot dogs. I've
never seen anything like that before. You know.

Speaker 1 (10:50):
It was like everybody was cooking in anything but a
grill there. Like we had some wings that came out
of like an old army helmet, and and the blue
cheese was served in like a like the you know
you put paint if you're gonna have like a paint roller,
like a little bucket thing or whatever. So it was
I think it was just like there's nothing to do
here in Buffalo, so like we've got to come together

(11:12):
to tailgate for these games. So like you know, we
were asking people what time did you get here, like
five six am, and they were like Friday, they got.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
There in two days before, they were there forty eight
hours before. Just a party.

Speaker 2 (11:23):
I mean, I don't even think I would want to
go into the game. I just want to hang out
with all the people out there. You got people going
through tables. You got that what was what the old
guy that was like covers himself in mustard and ketchup
or something like that.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Yeah, that was that was pent Toron. They were signs
out that said no ketchup or mustard acts today, And
that was because there was too windy, Shannon.

Speaker 3 (11:43):
And if it's two Wendy, you can't have mustard on
your face.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
I guess. I mean, maybe it's a little harder to
hit the guy with the ketchup and mustard from the
top of the vehicle that they're shooting down on. Yeah,
you know, we couldn't really find a table to go through, Shannon.
I don't know if like every every visiting fan that
comes wants that to happen. So maybe I don't know
if that happens as much as you think it does now.
But we didn't get Drew through a table. But just

(12:08):
like just it was like we were in a club,
like I had to take a video and just kind
of turn around to show what was going on, and
it was. It was insane and a really really cool experience.
I think Bill's Mafia has got to be one of
the more unique and passionate fan bases. In all the
sports and we all got to do that together. So
we're going to share a lot of those stories today

(12:29):
on KSR. You know, kind of but what happened at
the game and the entire experience. But again, thank you
Matt and Drew and Mario, these guys. It's been a
lot of fun, Shannon. And you know, you say you
don't have good times on these trips. I've had a
good time. Like Jenuin, we.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Said, have a good time, and I've just said I'm not.
I'm not jealous of you being there. I'm glad that
you're the one there and I'm back in the studio.
I have a good time on the trips. And we
were coming up in December, we're going to Atlanta for
the Kentucky Saint John's game. Yeah, thinking about driving through
Florida to get there, so I mean Louisiana KSR fashion.
I still got eight hour drive back today, so you know,

(13:03):
jury is still out there, but it has spent a
good time and we want to hear from you.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
Eight five nine two eight oh two two eight seven.
You could text us at five oh two two six
five six six five six. A lot of sports to
talk about, Kentucky football wins their third game in a row.
Kentucky basketball won a game, and Mark Pope just decided to,
I don't know, talk like a teenage girl in the
postgame press conference. Shannon. I mean, I'm just I don't
know what to think about this. We'll we'll talk about that,

(13:29):
the volleyball team's big win, and much more here on
this Monday edition of the KSR pre Show. Welcome Back.
It is the KSR pre Show. Billy R Sports and
Buffalo Shannon the dude in Louisville. You can give us
a call eight five nine two ah two two eight seven.
One person on the text line says, Billy is the
last person that should have a key for his suitcase.

(13:51):
He never did find his car keys, did he. Ah,
that's true. I've still never found those car keys. It
may be the greatest mystery of my life. Shannon. But
I expect him to just pop out out of nowhere
when I move out of that house. You know what
I mean.

Speaker 3 (14:03):
I'm gonna get you one of those air tags. You
need one of those.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
That way, if you lose your keys, you got that
air tag on there. You just hit an app on
your phone. It makes a noise, you can find it,
because I've been in.

Speaker 3 (14:13):
That situation before.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
But I've never been in a situation where I couldn't
find my keys and then I just never found my keys,
and that was the end of the story.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
I ever found.

Speaker 2 (14:20):
I always find them somehow, someway. You just somehow like
they went into another like like wardrobe or something and
went into like another section of the planet.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
Yeah, like I threw them away or something like they
went into a black hole and they were gone, like
the fiance things. I left them in the in the
lock and somebody was watching the house ran up and
stole the keys and are now waiting for us to
leave the house and then to drob it. But I
doubt it was that. In that crazy one person also says, say,
you are sorry you don't have a modern suitcase with

(14:52):
a makeup mirror, like shit in the dude does? Is
that true? Shitting you have a makeup mirror in your
suitcase that wouldn't seem very.

Speaker 3 (14:57):
Narrow, of course not.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
I know.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
Mine's very modern. It has will on it. They can
rotate around three hundred and sixty degrees. I've got a
very modern suitcase.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Yeah, that's that's what you need. See a man just
carries their suitcase from one place to another, Shannon, And it.

Speaker 2 (15:11):
Looked like you had money in there or something like
you're gonna go make a drug deal.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
It looks like, you know, what do you think, kid?
I got twenty thousand dollars in here? But you know what,
we're having a good time football or basketball, Shanne, What
do you want to do here? First?

Speaker 2 (15:26):
Well, I mean both games were just absolutely beatdowns, and
I don't think we really learned about our team anymore
from playing either one of these games. I guess if
we're going chronologically, we should go back to Friday Eastern
or Eastern Illinois Kentucky. Kentucky wins by forty six points
in the final game of the BBN United Classic person

(15:47):
Kentucky Georgan. They were throwing that tag on there. So,
I mean, out of those three games, we had twenty
six point win over Nichols, we had a was it
a forty eight point win over Valpo, and then a
forty six point win over Eastern Illinois. I don't know, like,
what are your takeaways from beating teams like that that
just just aren't good?

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Yeah, I mean, most of my takeaways were in the
post game. But you know, Rupp's got to make that money, right,
you got to you got to fulfill that contract with Rupperena,
and so you got to have so many home games.
And that's a big part of why you don't see
Kentucky and these Maui Invitationals because they got to get
enough games at Rapperina to pay their bills. But yeah,
it's it's kind of time tough to take away things

(16:25):
from the game. O dia Bote had a big game download.
But that's what you do when you're the tallest guy
and the other team is six to seven. Yeah, right, Shannon.
I mean that's just kind of a discrepancy when it
comes to talent level. When do we need to have
a conversation about otego Oway is my question, Shannon, Because
he doesn't look like himself this year.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
He doesn't.

Speaker 2 (16:42):
But I think he's going to be okay. I think
maybe he's just pressing a little bit too much. You know,
like just do what you do best. If you're o
tego Away, your offense is driving to the basket and
getting points, getting points in the paint. That way, you
know he's not gonna be a guy that's gonna be
a knockdown three point shooter, and we saw that he
was trying to, I think force that three point shot

(17:03):
against Louisville a little too much. And then we hear
after the fact there's NBA scouts there, so maybe he's
trying to show off that he's got a shot, and
you know, again, you just got to stick to who
you are and do what you do best. Otega aways
a droble drive guy, and he struggled.

Speaker 1 (17:18):
There's some truth to that. I think just pressing or
trying too hard at something. Shannon, you know, I'd get
so nervous for these pre shows. Sometimes I'd write everything
down I want to say, I'd stress about it. But
I think some of the best shows is I'm not unprepared,
but you know, relaxed and we just, you know, kind
of have a conversation and maybe Otega feels the weight
of the university and the fan base on him. It

(17:39):
was last year where it was so surprising that he
goes on this run and he becomes a guy that
scores double digits in every game almost and now it's
like the expectations are on him this year. The preseason
SEC Player of the Year so maybe there is some
of that as well, But in a game without Jandler
Lowe obviously hurting his shoulder during practice at Kentucky looks
ahead to the Champions Classic game tomorrow. That's not the

(18:02):
late game, Shannon, which I'm pumped about. Yeah, six thirty
pm against the number seventeen team in the country, Michigan State.
That's gonna be a good barometer for where this team's at,
don't you think. I mean, with all that happened in
the pregame versus Louisville, this is one that you know,
I think a lot of fans are wanting them to
get after getting that beat down.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
Yeah, I mean, this is really your second test of
the year.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
Now. The thing is, if you lose this game tomorrow night, now,
all of a sudden, you've still got three or four
more teams that are in the top twenty that you've
still got to play. So we've talked about, you know,
your lost total going into the conference play. You drop
this one tomorrow, now you're into two and you still
got Saint John's, You've still got Gonzaga, you still got
North Carolina, So you know, the lost total could start

(18:45):
to stock up if you don't get that win tomorrow night.
So I think there is a little bit of a
not a whole lot, but a little bit out of pressure.

Speaker 3 (18:51):
To win that game tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
Yeah, and guys maybe like Brandon Garrison to play a
little bit better until Jaden Quaintons gets back. You know,
I've been impressed by Yeleovich. I think that's a guy
that's gonna get more and more minutes as the season
goes on, Denze laborating that guy gets hurt and maybe
you do start to get really worried about this team
with a point guard. But the Buzzard's luck with the
point guards has not been great for Kentucky. Malachim Moreno

(19:14):
also having another good game. Man he is he is
going to be a big part of this team. But Shannon,
it was really Mark Pope's post game Okay, thank you,
I'm gonna give you credit for it. Don't worry ya,
But I it was really Pope afterwards that made some
puzzling comments. I thought one of them being I wish
I was further ahead. I'm trying to figure out why

(19:35):
I'm not further ahead with this group in terms of
their identity. First of all, before we get to the
next quote, what is that? What do you take away
from that quote, Shannon, I mean, do you think he
was spoiled by all the experience and senior leaders on
the team last year that now he's got these new
guys in, they're all just still trying to figure out
each other.

Speaker 2 (19:52):
I think that's it, you know, just trying to make
all the pieces fit together, trying to figure out who
is going to be in what rotation, how many minutes
are going to be divvied out. I think there's a
lot of that still to be determined. But I mean
that's every season, and that it's going to be every
season moving forward, especially when you have the transfer portal.
You were bringing in new pieces that you didn't have
last year. Now you've got some guys that are returning.

(20:13):
You know, you got your brain of Garrisons, you got
your otega always, but there's a lot of other pieces
that Camra Chandler as well. Yeah, you're still trying to
figure out the guys that you're going to have the
most minutes from and the right rotations, as we've talked
about in the past. So I think that's probably what
he means, and.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Then he went on to quote Taylor Swift and talk
more about what happened in that pregame versus Louisville. I'll
read you the quote. You guys know I'm a big
Taylor Swift fan, and I'm just going I just like
to leave out these little things that keep people wondering
and guessing. There's really not much to it. At some point,
I will tell you the story, but I would like
you guys to prognosticate on that for a couple of
more dates. He'd go on to say, thanks for letting

(20:50):
thanks for letting that float around for a while. It's fun, right,
it gives you something to write about and guess about
and tweet about. I'm going to give you something else today.
I've got to figure out what it is.

Speaker 3 (21:02):
I don't like that.

Speaker 2 (21:03):
Look again, if it's something that happened we're talking about
the Louisville game before that, when he said it was
a bad pregame experience, just say what it.

Speaker 3 (21:10):
Is, or don't say it, or not it yeah, or
just not even mention it.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
How about we just don't even bring it up, because yeah,
starting to read all these different rumors that are out there,
and you know, it's not responsible for us to come
on here and start speculating what it could be. But again, like,
if you want to squash all that, you can do
it single handedly just by saying what it is. Since
you already said, well there was something that happened, Well, okay,
just tell everybody what it is so we can process it.

Speaker 3 (21:35):
And move on to the next thing.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
When you bring it up again, it just keeps lingering
for no reason, and you say it's no big deal.

Speaker 3 (21:41):
If it's no big deal, it just tell us what
it is.

Speaker 1 (21:44):
Right right, Yeah, if it's no big deal, then just
reveal it. You know, maybe this is when you wish
that the coach had a little bit more coach speak
and kept things close to it to the vest. Maybe
it's just a little too honest. Yeah, when it comes
to speaking to the media, and you know, nine times
out of ten that's what you want. But I think
here it's just you know, Matt always says, we will
fill the void, yep, with what we think is happening.

(22:06):
You just need to tell us what happened or don't
mention it at all. But I don't know. I called
it the first misstep of the Pope era. Shannon. We
were talking about the honeymoon being over. This just this
kind of plays into it even more. But look, winning
Gere is all and they have another chance to do
that on Tuesday. We need to take a break. We'll
be right back on this Monday edition of the KSR
pre Show. That's right, the haters are gonna hate, hate, hate.

(22:29):
Maybe that'll be a quote in Mark Pope's next press conference.
You never know. It's Billy Rutlig and Shannon the Dude
here on the KSR pre Show. And Kentucky is a
nine and a half point dog against Vanderbilt coming up
this weekend, and you can bet that line on Draftking Show.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
You can.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
The NBA has got to stop with those courts. During
the NBA got was it like a lime green court?
That's the one I saw, the Minnesota one, I think,
yeah it was. I was like, what am I watching?

Speaker 2 (23:39):
It looks like your color of your TV has just
been completely thrown out. You know you can adjust like
the tint of your TV and the right Yeah, it
looks like white balance. So it's it's crazy looking these
courts that they have.

Speaker 1 (23:53):
Boys just got me an egg McMuffin and a coke shin,
so we are ready to go. People are saying I'm
a little low energy this morning.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
I think it's from sleeping on the bunk beds.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
That's what I was gonna say.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Maybe if you were a top guy, instead of a
bottom guy. You'd have more energy. Oh yeah, you keep
on hitting that.

Speaker 1 (24:06):
But you know, maybe not the best mattress after you know,
having the de Luxe one at home. But you know what,
we've got to wake up and continue on. We've mentioned
the Kentucky football team. They beat Tennessee Tech forty two
to ten. We did a fun postgame show on the
road where I'm still amazed that Matt can go into
these restaurants and bars and get and okay them to

(24:27):
have a set up radio equipment. Shannon. I'm always amazed
that they can do that, but it is good promotion
for these places. Yeah, Kentucky now on a three game
winning streak, now five and five on the year. Mark
Stoops was dead in the water three weeks ago and
now it looks like he has saved his job Shannon.
And now with the opportunity to get to maybe seven wins,

(24:47):
I mean maybe even eight if you were to win
a bowl game, Shannon, are you optimistic like that or
are you pessimistic here at the end of the year
with Kentucky.

Speaker 2 (24:56):
I think there is a very good chance that Kentucky
will go bowling. They will get to six wins. Whether
it be Vanderbilt this upcoming weekend or I would say
the most likely scenario is that they lose to Vandy
and beat Louisville, especially if you saw the Loibill game.
I mean, they look very beatable the last couple of weeks,
so you get that, all of a sudden, you're talking
about going to a bowl game, and then if you

(25:16):
win that bowl game, you have to give it up
for Mark Stoops if he was able to go seven
and six with a bowl win. And again we're getting
way ahead of ourselves here, but let's just dream for
a minute. This is a scenario that I could see
likely playing out, and if he were able to do that,
I think that you have to sort of turn around
the narrative on Mark Stoops if he's able to do that,

(25:37):
especially with the schedule that.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
We talked about.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Everybody had him going four and eight this year. You know,
they can't even get to five wins, and now he's
already gotten to that point. He has a chance to
put a little extra on top with the win over
either Vandy or Loisville.

Speaker 1 (25:49):
Well, it's really the progression of Cutter Bully that I
think has people really excited for the future. And you
got to give Mark Stoops credit. I am not for
starting Calzada before Bully, but you know, Bully is has
progressed and Stoops does deserve the praise. His touchdown run
in that Tennessee Tech game, Yeah, Like it's one of
those like you don't want to see your quarterback do

(26:10):
that often es verly lower your throwing shoulder, but it
was also one that gets you up, makes you stand
up in the living room right and just know that
that guy is the future of Kentucky football. That was
an incredible play.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
Yeah, thirty yards and then got to the goal line
and just just ran over the guys to get into
the end zone.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Was impressive.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
You're probably not going to see that against the you know,
a Lovill team or a Vanderbilt team who's got, you know,
a good defense, but against the Tennessee Tech team regardless,
to see that was pretty impressive from Cutter Bully, And
I'm with you, you don't want to see that in
this type of game, though, Like he is your guy,
He's he's your future quarterback going you know beyond this season.
Last thing you want to see is, you know, you know,

(26:50):
your starter get injured from trying to run the ball
against the team that you're up way, you know, way
up on you're gonna beat regardless.

Speaker 3 (26:57):
So it was a risky play.

Speaker 2 (26:58):
But I also kind of like it, you know, I
like the fight that this team has shown over the
last three weeks.

Speaker 1 (27:03):
Yeah, and it feels like the get you money up,
Garrett was a rallying cry for this team. I mean,
going on this three game win streak now, beating some
good teams in Tennessee Tech. It was a lower level
they were ten and oher, but yeah, you're right, it's
it's something that you take notice stuff though, And I
think players in the transfer portal might see a quarterback
with that kind of fire and think why not come

(27:23):
to Kentucky. Cutter was also efficient eighteen of twenty one
on the day seth McGowan had three touchdowns. Walka Flocka
pulled open the doors of an elevator at Roperfield.

Speaker 3 (27:34):
That was crazy.

Speaker 2 (27:34):
So we had fans that got stuck on an elevator
and walk a Flocka of all people comes to save
the day.

Speaker 3 (27:41):
He comes in, he says, it's a party. It's a party.

Speaker 2 (27:43):
He opens up the doors and I don't know how
he was the one that ended up saving the fans
from the elevator.

Speaker 1 (27:48):
Yeah, was that just right place, right time? Or did
you feel like Waka looks at himself like a superhero
and has to kind of go where there's trouble.

Speaker 3 (27:55):
Oh he should, He should.

Speaker 1 (27:57):
With a name like Waka Flockaad.

Speaker 3 (27:59):
You know, he didn't know he's at the game.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
Well, I mean they weren't even playing his music to
start the year, remember, and now he's here at Kroger
Field and saving fans from stuck elevators, which is also
like a nightmare of mind sharnon. Like, I don't know
how claustrophobic you are, but like, I'm not going into caves,
you know what I mean? Like these people that go

(28:22):
squeeze themselves into a cave to find the bar.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
I remember we were talking about that.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
I was I somehow got into the YouTube rabbit hole
of these what's it called.

Speaker 1 (28:31):
Is it splunking?

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Splunking?

Speaker 2 (28:33):
That's it splunking Where these you know, adventure seekers would
go into caves and they would squeeze through little bitty
tiny crevices and'd end up dying in there because.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
They got stuck. So, yeah, I'm not going to be
doing that.

Speaker 2 (28:45):
But I'm not like overly claustrophobic to where if I
got in an elevator and it you know, locked up
or whatever, I don't think I would freak out. But
it is one of those situations where if you're in
there for a long time, hours and hours and hours,
you can start get to you know, start to wonder, Okay,
how are we gonna get out of this thing?

Speaker 3 (29:02):
You know?

Speaker 1 (29:02):
Yeah? And with strangers, right, I mean, you might be
a lot of these times if there's a weight limit,
you've got eight people in the elevator and that's maybe
why it stops. And I mean you're waiting there for
a while for the fire department to get there. This
doesn't sound like one of those situations. I think it
was like Waka was right there to help, but Shannon, like,
you get me in one of those elevators, no, AC
forty five to fifty minutes. It was like me getting

(29:24):
locked in the bathroom down over there. It's sold for creek.
I mean I was fine for thirty five minutes, but
I hit forty forty five I started losing my mind
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
Have ye been stuck in an elevator?

Speaker 1 (29:35):
Before. No. No, I think about it all the time though,
especially when I'm doing all that small talk before I
get up to the seventh floor and in Lexington, because
if I go small talk and then we get stuck
in the elevator, I'll get nothing else to say, right, So,
I don't know makes you think, But Kentucky is a
nine and a half point dog versus Vanderbilt. SEC Nation
is coming too Nashville for that game. There's gonna be

(29:57):
a lot of eyeballs on it, Vanderbilt. And to close
out the year, Louisville losing a tough game to Clemson.
Don't know if you saw that collapse Shannon their kicker
with an extra point in two field goals for the exact.

Speaker 2 (30:08):
Mean they had a turnover like on the twenty yard line,
and you think, okay, well they're going to get at
least three points out of those drive and probably win
the game. But then somehow, not only did they not
get the touchdown, they don't get the field goal because
of all the penalties that pushed them back, and uh,
that's just another bad loss for Louisville, you know.

Speaker 1 (30:27):
So you never know, man, you never know. I think
a lot of like the you know, the betting sites
have Kentucky getting to that six win mark and making
a bowl game. Now we've talked about five being the limbo,
but it really I think depends on you know, if
you were to stay at five and lose the last
two games, how bad did you lose to Louisville and
Vandy would really decide the fate of Mark Stoops. But

(30:49):
it has been an insane turnaround for the Kentucky football team.
You know, Shannon, I would be remiss if we did
not mention Kentucky volleyball as well, man defeating Oklahoma and
Arkansas over the weekend a perfect season in the SEC,
they won their ninth straight SEC title. Enjoyed the video
of them celebrating on the floor with confetti, and I
felt like we knew this was gonna happen with this team.

(31:10):
Not to like be a little too cocky with Craig
Skinner and this volleyball team, but we you know, some
big wins early on in the year, and now they
culminate that with a regular season title.

Speaker 2 (31:20):
Yeah, I'm more surprised when they lose, you know that,
which they haven't really done, no doubt, you know, so
and they're going to be, of course, the number one
seed and the first volleyball SEC tournament that we've had,
I think in twenty years. It's been a long time
since they've had they have two thousand and five. They
realized that, Yeah, so that's the first volleyball tournament since
two thousand and five that they will have this year.
But big congratulations to Craig Skinner and the volleyball team

(31:43):
and looking forward to what they can do in the
NCAA tournament, no doubt.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
No doubt. You know, we saw a great crowd come
out for that Tennessee Kentucky game. Craig Skinner the former
case our pre show co host several times actually, so
we are really rooting for them. And the growth of
volleyball has been fun to see over these last couple
of years or so, you know, getting more and more
eyeballs on these national games when Nebraska and Kentucky play
each other, these powerhouse programs. Excited for the run for

(32:09):
UK volleyball women. UK women won and beat Marshall over
the weekend. I mean, it was a great weekend for
Kentucky athletics. It was really only the soccer penalty kicks
that we watched in the car on the way down
to Buffalo Kentucky losing to Louisville in that one, Shannon. So,
I mean, it's a good time of the year crossover season,
and it's good to do it when Kentucky is winning
right now.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
Yeah, Cats are rolling right now in just about every sport.
So you're right about that. Now, you guys, are you
coming back today from Buffalo or what's the plan here?

Speaker 1 (32:36):
Yeah? I believe we're hitting the road right after KSR
and so that should put us back around eight pm
or so, and then you know, we'll listen to the
Stoop Show, maybe in the call or in the car,
and then we'll do it all. You know, we'll get
up and do the pre show on Tuesday from the
Lexington studios and we'll be finally back and then you know,
I think Matt was thinking if he was going to

(32:57):
like go to New York for the Champions Classic game, right,
because that's just Tuesday. Yes, but Shannon, new York is huge.
I mean, we're in Buffalo, and they were saying that
it would take it would be quicker to go back
to Lexington than it would to get to New York
City from where we're at, which it was hard for
me to comprehend.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Is that right? Oh well, it's like Florida.

Speaker 2 (33:15):
You know, if you're in Florida, you think, okay, if
I'm up on the Panhandle, I'm not that far from Miami,
or I'm not that far from you know, uh, maybe
Fort Myers, And.

Speaker 3 (33:23):
Then you start looking at it.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
It's almost as far to drive from the Panhandle of
Florida down to Miami as it is from Louisville or
Lexington down to the Panhandle.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
Right, kind of the same.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
Like from right now from where I'm at, it is
seven hours and forty minutes to go to Buffalo, But
if I wanted to go to New York City, it
would be like eleven hours from here. Yeah, no, ye,
no more than that. Fifteen hours from here, wow, fifteen hours.
So that basically almost what I guess double what it
would be for me to drive to Buffalo from here.

Speaker 1 (33:55):
And that's just something Europeans just can't understand. Yeah, hann
you know, like they take their trains and their free transportation,
and you could drive the length of Texas and you
could get through probably all of Europe, and so it's
just that's just what we do. We all have cars,
and we all do that. If you are in constant
pain from arthritis, is that's what you do? If you're

(34:17):
suffering from a veniscus tear, can I recommend somebody doctor
Brian Guess that first choice health and wellness is here
for you. I had an injury back when I got
into car wreck, two bulging discs in my lower back,
and I turned to Brian Guess, the chiropractor, to help.
He's now got his own practice in New Albany, Indiana,
just minutes outside of Louisville. When we are at Bear
Knows the other day, I was only ten minutes away,

(34:38):
so I just drove by and said hello to doctor
Brian Guests and met his team and the great facility
that they have there. They have a workout room where
you can do some rehab. I mean, it's not just
a doctor looking at you. You know, They've got to
change your lifestyle a little bit. So they provide non
surgical orthobiological solutions that reduce pain and restore mobility using

(34:59):
your body natural healing powers. They also have equipment that
once Anthony Davis used one time, and he bought two
machines on the spot after he used it. I'm gonna
get into some of what that equipment is when we
talk more about First Choice Health and Wellness throughout the week.
But it's something that has proven to work. Read the
over eight hundred reviews to see how regenerative medicine is

(35:19):
helping people live pain free lives. There's no surgery, there's
no drugs, and there's no downtime. You can get your
life back today if you call eight one two nine
four five forty five hundred. They're located on State Street
across from Derby City Pizza. Tell doctor guest Billy sent
you and you get ten percent off. That's eight one
two nine five forty five hundred. It's something you don't

(35:40):
need until you need it, really, I mean, you don't
think about it until you actually need it. Get ahead
and get your life back at First Choice Health and Wellness.
We'll take a break one final segment here on the
KSR pre Show.

Speaker 3 (35:52):
We'll be right back.

Speaker 1 (35:54):
Welcome back, Billy, Retligion, Shin and the Dude here on
the ksrppre Show. We'll get to a couple calls here
before we end the show. But Shannon, South Carolina blows
a twenty seven point lead to lose to Texas A
and M. Man they were thirty to three at halftime
and lose thirty one to thirty.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Shane Beamers should be embarrassed for that.

Speaker 2 (36:11):
I mean, they had such a huge lead, it looked
like they were going to win easily, and then they
let A and M come back and not only get
in the game, but win the game. That was just
an amazing comeback though. I mean, I guess you got
to give AVE and M a lot of credit for
that too. But South Carolina blowing that lead, I mean,
just that's the one where you just take the air
out of the ball, just run the ball.

Speaker 3 (36:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Yeah, Shane's pumping up the crowd. It was, you know,
not good there in South Carolina. But what do you
think of the A and M cop bumping the South
Carolina player that?

Speaker 2 (36:39):
Yeah, I mean it looked like to me the cop
initiated the contact there. It looked like the player was
trying to get out of the way. The South Carolina
player was trying to slot over, and this cop comes
right into the tunnel where the players are lined up
ready to go out onto the field and just kind
of shoulder bumps and like, you know, sort of checks
them and then looks at the player like the player
did something wrong. So I think that if you watch

(37:00):
that video, I'm on the side of the South Carolina
players like they were just trying to get out of
the way and this cop was initiating the contact.

Speaker 1 (37:06):
Yeah, I am too. I don't know if he was
frustrated with the score or what, but that was completely
out of line. You know, he was relieved from his
game day duties and probably rightly so. But like the
South Carolina guy scores, they like one of the yell
leaders from A and M like tries to strip the
ball out of him when he's like he's on the
sideline and then the cop does that. It was like geez,
but am comes back and wins the game. Also, we

(37:29):
had another spitting situation in the NFL. Shannon Jamar Chase
spits on Jalen Ramsey. I don't think the ref saw
it because Jalen Ramsey hit him in the face mask
and then he got ejected. But Jamar Chase in the
locker room said he did not spit on Jalen Ramsey. Shannon,
and I don't know why people lie like that because
everything is recorded and there is a clear video of
him spitting on Jalen Real.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
That was my exact thought, like, did this guy think
that nobody had video evidence of the guy clearly spinning
on another player and then just goes, no, I didn't
do it. I didn't even know hop but my mouth
I think it was those words. I didn't even open
my mouth. Dude, there's a video if you spitting all
over the guy, and if somebody spits at you, they
deserve to be punched in the face or whatever happens
to him.

Speaker 3 (38:08):
They deserve that. There's no room for that.

Speaker 1 (38:11):
I'm with you. That is one of the more disrespectful
things you can ever do to somebody. But also, punching
a helmet is not a great idea either, Shannon. That's
always something we talk about on NFL cover.

Speaker 3 (38:21):
Heer, I'm about to kick to the gut.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
There you go, that's exposed.

Speaker 2 (38:27):
I'm not dumb enough to punch a guy who's wearing
a football helmet in the head.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
Like that's not going to do anything.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
But you got to respond if somebody spits on you, right,
like absolutely, I.

Speaker 2 (38:35):
Mean if you did that just a few years ago,
that would be called a salt, you know during COVID
if you did that.

Speaker 3 (38:41):
So yeah, I mean, there's there's no room for that
in the game.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
I mean, of all things, you could talk all the
trash you want, but you can't be spitting on somebody
and not expect to get punched in the face or
something bad to happen to you.

Speaker 1 (38:53):
I'm with you, and so we'll see if he gets
suspended for the next game. Let's take a call Shannon
before we leave. Who's up next? Let's go, Steve, he Stive,
what's up, Steve?

Speaker 4 (39:03):
Hey, Good morning guys. Here do you all talk about?
The elevator made me think of a Kentucky basketball story,
and that was that way back in nineteen eighty one
when I was going to UK and my wife and
I were both there together and we were in the band.
Over the Christmas break, we got called to an overnight

(39:24):
road trip band trip up to New Jersey where UK
was playing North Carolina in the Meadowlands. So we went
to the game and game didn't go so well. We
lost to North Carolina, and we went back to the
hotel and everybody was told they could just you know,
get turned loose in New York City for the night.
We were excited about that, so we went crashing into

(39:45):
the elevator, were tearing our instruments. I've got a drum,
and my wife's got a trumpet. Everybody's packed in there
like sardines. And we went up the elevator and it
got stuck halfway up between floors, and we were there
for a very long time. But they opened the hatch
on the elevator and we were there long enough that

(40:07):
the UK basketball team came back. They heard about it.
They knew we were starting to get freaked out by
being there so long. Everybody's sweating, everybody's worried. They can't
sit down, We can't even turn around. But they hung
around and they got down on their all fours. I
know for sure. It was Mel Turpin, possibly Sam as well,
and a couple of other those guys. They talked to

(40:29):
us the entire time until the fire department got there
and cranked that thing manually up to the floor where
we could then step up and out. But the basketball
team to the rescue. They calmed everybody's nerves. It was
a freaky time, but it was kind of a fun memory.
But you guys brought that back to me and I

(40:49):
was like, oh my gosh, I remember how panicky that
was for a while.

Speaker 1 (40:53):
Wow, what a story. Even the UK basketball players talking
you through it. You got to be quick here. How
many How long do you think you were in there for?

Speaker 4 (41:01):
Oh gosh, I bet it was a half hour or so.
I mean long enough for us to get back to
the hotel and then the basketball team to get dressed
and everything come all the way back to the hotel.
So I wasn't that far from the arena.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
Yeah. Thanks, fun story.

Speaker 1 (41:14):
Though, yep, yeah, thank you.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Still to be stuck in an elevator, imagine you're stuck
in an elevator holding a tuba.

Speaker 1 (41:18):
Yeah, you banned equipment in there too. Oh, probably sweating bullets.
At least the UK basketball team's talking you through that
would be cool.

Speaker 3 (41:27):
Yeah, that's quite a story. Hey, one more time.

Speaker 2 (41:29):
DraftKings sportsbook promo code KSR Bet five. If your bet hit,
you're gonna ge two hundred dollars in bonus bets. That's

Speaker 1 (41:39):
That's gonna do it. For the KSR pre show for
Shannon the dude. I am Billy Rutledge. We appreciate you listening.
We'll hand it off to the guys here in Buffalo.
This has been the KSRP pre showing. We'll talk to
you tomorrow
