Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome everyone to another edition of the KSR Pre Show.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
Today is Friday, December fifth. I am Billy Rutlids along
with Shannon the Dude. You can give us a call
on the Clark's Pumping Shop phone line. That's eight five
nine two eight oh two two eight seven. Textas at
five oh two two six five six six five six
And as always, the KSR Pre Show is brought to
you by Italics Fine Italian Dining in Lexington, Kentucky, at
the City Center.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
It's Friday, so we're on location. We made the drive
to Glasgow, Kentucky. Here at the Ashley Furniture Outlet in Glasgow.
Shannon the Dude is alongside with me. What's up, dude.
This is the most comfortable I think I've ever been
for a remote in KSR history. Like, we're just sitting
here at the dinner table right now, these nice comfy chairs.
We're surrounded by mattresses and couches, you know, Like this
(00:47):
is a really comfortable place. I don't want anybody nodding
off and falling asleep during our show, though. We're gonna
feel disrespected if I look over and anybody's sleeping on
the couch. Well, look, I've got one hour of radio
to do.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
Then you might find me on one of these mattresses,
just Nick taking a little quick cat nap. We got
a late game tonight against Gonzaga. Shannon, I'm somebody that
needs a couch, so maybe I'll look around a little
bit here as we try to find something a little
bit more comfortable than when I got at home.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Well, that's great because they got no interest until December
of twenty thirty. Think about that. Mably five years no
interest on all premium mattresses. You get save up to
eight hundred dollars on adjustable sets twenty four months zero
percent with no minimum purchase all the best mattress brands
under one roof right here at Ashley Furniture, and all
KSR fans receive a free twenty five dollars master card
for taking a test rest in the Ashley's mattress. Wait wait, wait,
(01:32):
wait wait, you may not just lay over here and
take a nap and they give me twenty five Do
I get paid the nap bucks? What? That may be
one of the best thas. Why would we've ever knowled
you not come out here and just try that and
get twenty five dollars. They say, sleep is what a
third of your life, Shannon, so you might as well
get something be well. I mean those of you who
sleep eight hours a night? Do you sleep eight hours
a night? Not even close? I mean I'm probably clocking
(01:52):
five hours on a good night. I get six, but
it's rare for me to get to eight. Anybody get
eight hours a night? She does? One person. That's good.
You gotta get you to do this. That's right. You've
got a clean conscious too. You go to bed with
no worries and you lay there and sleep for eight hours. Yeah,
there's a million things going through my head. So I
(02:13):
you know, you got to get up to watch the
Today Show. I mean no, that stopped a long time ago.
Well with Jerry Eves. When Jared start producing my eighth
radio show of the day, his show starts the same
time as the Today's show, So I'm not able to
do that.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
You should just throw a TV screen on when you're
doing the show there. But glad to be in Glasgow.
I love this this area of Kentucky, Bowling greens not
too far away.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
I believe this is Barren County, Is that right? Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Yeah, I passed the dinosaur in your dinosaur Land chain,
and it just bracked back all the memories, kind of
like when we were in near Lindsay Wilson the.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
So you had a good two and a half hour
drive here today, right, Yeah, it was a long one
for me. Funny for me, it was about an hour
and a half. You know, like there's things in life
that have simple explanations that I'll just tell you. I
have no idea how it actually works and why it is.
But on the way here today, I sat in traffic
between Mount Washington and Shepherdsville for like twenty minutes, and
I'm like, okay, well, there's got to be like some
(03:07):
construction or a bad wreck or something holding all this
traffic up, right, So say, I actually called you like
I might be late today because this GPS is saying
I'm gonna get here at like nine oh five or
I guess we're on Central Time here, right, so eight
oh five. But regardless, I was gonna be a couple
of minutes late to the show. It looked like according
to the GPS. So I sit there, and I sit there.
(03:27):
Finally traffic starts slowly moving. I get all the way
to the front. There's nothing there. Wait, how does that
work where traffic is backed up so far and there's
nothing at the front that's backing up traffic. No. Again,
I'm sure there's a simple explanation in somebody that's, like,
you know, works in traffic, could probably give you a
good explanation. But I just don't understand. I mean, my
(03:48):
conclusion I came to is that people are just complete
idiots and don't know how to drive. That's the explanation. Well,
it definitely makes it.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Worse, right, Like when you get all the way up
there after waiting and trafficing and there's nothing.
Speaker 1 (03:57):
Man, I'm like, I was backed up for this, there's
nothing there. What's going on exactly?
Speaker 2 (04:03):
Well, we're glad you made it here. You beat me here.
So I mean, obviously the traffic wasn't too bad. Kentucky
takes on Gonzaga tonight. But before we get into the game, Shannon,
I did want to talk a little bit about will
Stein joining KSR yesterday. Has the Billy confidence, I think,
and we got a lot of news with the football
program yesterday with them hiring an offensive coordinator and possibly
a director of recruiting. But Shannon, kind of what were
(04:25):
your takeaways just hearing from the guy.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Well, first of all, billy confidence is correct. But the
difference is you think that you could get Jennifer Lawrence's number.
Will Stein actually dated Jennifer Lawrence back in the day,
So a little bit of a difference there between the
hero love the hire. I love the We're not a
Ben Don't Break defense. You know, he's not the type
of guy who's going to play soft and allow teams
(04:46):
to beat you on the other side of the ball
death by a thousand cuts and just you know, dink
and dunk. That's sort of the Mark Stoop's defense, you know.
So he's willing to play aggressive and sometimes when you
do that, you may give up an explosive play. But
I like the idea of playing aggressively defensively. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I also just liked how much he liked his mom
being on KSR. He was like, we need to need
to get an sid maybe for my mom, because she
was already on KSR.
Speaker 1 (05:11):
By the time I even knew it.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, you know, I think this is a guy that's
going to really get the fan base and really have
a good relationship with us. All the Ben Don't Break
thing was almost like a Mark Pope note card that
he had gotten by the athletic Department right before he
went on the press conference. That was a perfect thing
to say after thirteen years of stoops.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
You know, I've kind of felt the same way when
I was listening to Mark Pope's press conference, Like all
the stuff that we had that were frustrations of the
Caliperi era, It's like Mark Pope just had a checklist
and he went down and said, we're not doing that,
We're not doing this, We're doing this a different way.
And I felt a little bit like that listening to
will Stein yesterday. But he was saying, you know, that
felt like the first real day on the job. He
also said he felt like the president the first day
(05:47):
coming into Kentucky, you know, with the fan base being
as great as they are welcoming him in.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Yeah, filling up Nutter Field House. So excited for will
Stein to get to work and for fans to find
his season tickets that he sat in for all those years,
that will be a cool moment. He definitely does get us. Now,
there was news about some hirings, which I just mentioned.
They will The first hire under will Stein is their
new offensive coordinator, Joe Sloan. He was the quarterbacks coach
(06:14):
and former offensive coordinator at LSU. Worked with Jaden Daniels
a couple of years ago when he had that great
Heisman Trophy year.
Speaker 1 (06:21):
But he will be taking over the play calling.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Will Stein, known as one of the better play callers
in college football, has hired an offensive coordinator and will
let him call the plays. But a lot of people
think this is a bright young man.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah. I got some of his numbers here with LSU.
So at LSU he averaged three hundred and thirty two
yards of offense per game this season, okay, and including
in that is two hundred and twenty six passing one
hundred and six on the ground. Then the year before
that he led the he had the team with four
hundred and thirty one yards per game, three hundred and
five passing yard one hundred and sixteen. So yeah, he's
(06:54):
a guy that definitely could put up a lot of numbers.
And that sort of goes along with the theme of
what will Stein said is he wants to light up
the score or score a lot of points. So I
think that checks out when you look at the numbers
and the offensive coordinator he selected and back to the
play calling thing for a second.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
I think a lot of people were like, why would
you hire a play caller as your head coach and
then the head coach pass off those duties to somebody else. Yep,
But if you remember in will Stein's opening press conference,
he said, I want to be a great head coach,
not just a great play caller.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Yeah, so he's got to micro manage a lot of
different things, right, And.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
If you don't think he's going to be involved in
the process of what plays are called and when, I mean,
I think that would be foolish.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
Right.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
It's not like you're just gonna let this guy completely
take over.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
You want your head coach.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
To be dialed into everything going on to the football team,
not just play calling. That's why we've seen a lot
of offensive coaches in college football give up those play
calling duties.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Kirk Signetti was an offensive coach. He doesn't call plays. Now.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
I think Sarkejian was somebody that has maybe taken play
calling back. But this is much more normal than maybe
what some fans thought.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
On you to trust your offensive coordinator and if you've
got a good OC and you're in sync and you're
on the same page. Then the play that you know
will Stein would likely call. You trust your offensive coordinator
to to know what Will would call if you were
calling the plays himself, right, So I think that's part
of it as well. But uh, you got to delegate
when you're when you're a head coach delegating.
Speaker 2 (08:11):
Yeah, yes, And as somebody has said that play calling
is overrated, it's about feeding the studs. So, uh, you know,
hopeful that this will work out, but that is the
first hire.
Speaker 1 (08:19):
Let's just hope we have some studs. You got to recruit,
because if you don't have studs to feed, then you're
what are you feeding?
Speaker 2 (08:26):
And he's already trying, as he was a little late
to the KSR interview on the phone with a recruit.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
But also we got the.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
News yesterday that you know Vince Meyrow, remember he went
from Kentucky to Louisville. Well, we might be having a
reverse situation here, as the director of recruiting for over
a decade at Louisville, Pete Nocta as I believe how
you say his name, uh will Be is expected to
join the Kentucky staff.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Well, they took one of ours, we'll take one of theirs.
It only seems fair that one we're doing here. I think,
so we just trade guys. Did Vince take his.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
Job and now he's kind of looking to get back
at Louisville? You know, I'm not sure, but emphasis on
recruiting this is going to be important.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Sure, And you know, we as fans think, oh my god,
how could that ever happen? And I think as fans
it means a lot more to us from going from
one rival to another than it does to these guys
who are getting paid millions of dollars. And let's be real, Billy,
if I was waiving millions of dollars in front of
your face, you would go to Louisville too, Yes, you would,
not like you wouldn't I go to Louisville. I gotta dude,
(09:21):
see you anyway? Go to North Carolina. Ye, you go
to Antarctica. I'm not as money made it as you.
Oh you would though, but yeah, I say that till
till they say he talks. Yeah, obviously here's a suitcase
ten million dollars.
Speaker 2 (09:32):
But it does add to the rivalry a little bit.
I've actually played golf with this guy. Oh yeah, Director
of recruiting.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Well, you should have some insight, Scoop, I have none.
I know he's a good golfer, great work, so journal.
Speaker 2 (09:42):
Usually if you're a good golfer, that means you're neglecting
something in your personal life. So hopefully everything's good with him. Yeah,
but no, this is exciting.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
As he started.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Willstein starts to fill out his staff with a offensive
coordinator from Louisville, and then this director of recruiter.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
A caller said it best yesterday, where you know, we
were getting excited for basketball season after football, and then
we start stumbling in basketball. Now we got a new
head football coach, and we're starting to get excited about football.
A couple of weeks.
Speaker 2 (10:10):
It's flipped maybe two times because you know, everybody started
to go out on stoops again after they won those
games versus Auburt and Florida, and then he got blown
out and now you're back.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
It's like it's playing with our emotions. We were back
in on football for a couple of weeks and then
now they lost. Now we got a new coach. Now
you know, it's like, who, I don't know which way
is up right now with with this basketball and football.
Speaker 2 (10:29):
Well, I guess that's why fan is short for fanatic. Now,
how excited are you for Kentucky Gonzaga tonight? It is
the fourth game in a six game series. Kentucky came
back from sixteen points down at halftime to win by
one in overtime last year.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
I was there.
Speaker 2 (10:44):
This is in Nashville, though, I mean, this should be
a blue crowd, right, I mean it's not.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Gonzaga is not gonna have much of a crowd. You
wouldn't expect they would. Gonzaga is a hard team to
figure out because if you look at like their games
so far that they played this year, they tend to
score a lot of points. But then they lost that
last game to Missionchigan. Buy forty. But Michigan's really good, Okay,
but are they forty points better than Gonzaga? Forty's a
lot probably, That's what I'm saying, Like, you know, sometimes
it's just hard to make sense of some of these games.
(11:10):
But uh, I think it's gonna be a tough task
for Kentucky tonight. Gonzaga is a team that gets a
lot of their offense from their four and their five
e K And I'm trying to remember the other guys, Braden,
I don't know. I know what Graham uk though he
killed us, Yes, yep, and he's gonna be another guy
that I think we're gonna have our hands full with tonight.
So you know, it's kind of like a lot like
(11:30):
North Carolina just last game.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
But North Carolina was a must win, Chanon and what's
this You have to win? So it's not a must win,
it's a half to win. And how does a must
win different than I have to win.
Speaker 1 (11:42):
Half to his eurgency?
Speaker 2 (11:44):
Oh okay, I mean must I mean I thought must
win would be like more important. I'm just trying here, sure,
like we've got to motivate these guys somehow. I'm worried.
I'm worried if they lose this game, they go zero
and four in all the games that really matter here
at the non conference. I mean, Indiana's pop play a
game that you can get later. Saint John's is a
tough one. I do not want to start conference play,
(12:05):
no all the loss.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
And I was just saying that the more you lose
these these top twenty five opportunities, the more pressure that
piles on for the next game. And you know there's
a possibility which I don't think there's much of it,
but there is a possibility that Jalen Low could play tonight.
According to reports, Jaden Quainton's getting healthier. Looks like, you know,
he could be possibly a couple of weeks away and
(12:28):
then he's back to five on five, full contact, blowing
away people with his strength, the trust YEP And then
the other concerned is Mo Diabate, who's got this high
ankle sprain, and that could be weeks and we don't
know how many. I mean, that could be four to
six weeks from now still, so I mean we could
be talking about what February, yeah, or I guess maybe
(12:49):
late January before he's back at worst case January.
Speaker 2 (12:52):
Yeah. It seems like and that's a really important player
for this team. I mean, Mark Pope went out there
with an emphasis on defense, and Moe was that guy.
He could have guarded Hale Wilson a little bit and
against North Carolina. But you know, I don't know a
lot of question marks when it comes to the basketball team.
But you're right, Jalen Low starting to get back into practice,
ramping things up again.
Speaker 1 (13:10):
Moe is gonna miss this game. What I do know
is you cannot go one for thirteen from three and
beat anybody, and especially again zagaf they do that tonight,
they're gonna get run out of the building and it's
gonna be ugly. So they got to figure out a
way to get some shots to go down. I mean,
I don't know, is that something that just gets fixed overnight.
I mean, at some point you either have shooters or
you don't. Yeah, probably doesn't get fixed, but it probably
(13:31):
is emphasized. Do we shoot more than thirteen threes tonight?
I think you have to, right.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
I think you do that in the first half, Like
there is going to be an emphasis on getting those
shots and letting them fly, right. I mean, not passing
up at three is probably gonna make you run more
than maybe missing a defensive assignment maybe in this offense.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
But they've we've got.
Speaker 2 (13:48):
To see some change, right, Like we've got to start
seeing some progress or this could.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
Get ugly pretty quickly. I'm not hitting the panic button yet,
but we are getting close, like you know, like the
no wommy, no whomy, no womy, no whomy that you
hit the button. Like, I'm about my hands two inches
off the panic button. I'm not there yet. But I'm
about to hit it, especially if they don't play well tonight.
I thought the.
Speaker 2 (14:07):
People that didn't talk to the buzzer were the weird
people on those game shows.
Speaker 1 (14:11):
Oh yeah, like pressure Luck is the one Pressure Lucky. Yeah.
People that just didn't say anything and just hit the button.
I mean you're crazy. Yeah, Like, throw that person off
the show. I need you to be excited. If you're
going to be a contestant on a game show, talk
to the board. It's like, the price is right, man.
Did you watch the prices right during COVID. Yeah, it
was over the top, like cheesy because there was no crowd,
(14:32):
so clearly they told the contestants you have to be
over the top excited to bring some energy to the show.
But it was just it was awkward. It was so weird.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
Well, no, nothing to match the energy because there was
really no studio audience, right or that or they were
social distance.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Yeah. So let's hope Kentucky comes out with some energy
tonight and it gets a big win, because this would
be huge and maybe one day we'll be on a
game show show. I would love to. Actually, you know,
my dream job is to be a game show host.
I want to take over for Drew Carrey. I could
be better at Drew Carey's job than he is. I'm
telling you can I be Vana White and then just, oh,
that's the easiest job ever. Button. I mean, you would
talk about somebody who has cashed in like the easiest
(15:05):
job in the world ever. You just I mean you
walk up and hit the butt like now, you don't
even have to turn the letters. It's just a touch Snow.
I could do that job very easily. But you don't
look as good. I could look good, maybe little pomp.
We should be willing to put on a dress the
crowd put on a white dress and some heels negative. Oh,
then you can't do the job. You're fired. Now I'd
be in a nice suit, maybe a Samsonite suitcase. No,
we don't need that. We don't need that. We already
(15:27):
have no models on the price, is right? Enough of that?
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Eight five nine two eight h two two eight step
and call us. Tell us how you're feeling about the game.
We're here at the Ashley Furniture outlet where I may
just lay on one of these mattresses during.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
The prow I don't think I already haven't. Yeah, you
you you could be doing that after we're done with
the pre show and just try every one of them out.
They've got, i mean, a huge selection of mattresses out here,
That's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
And a twenty five dollars MasterCard just for taking the
test rest sounds like a good deal to me. So
we'll take a break and be right back here in Glasgow,
Kentucky on the case our pre show.
Speaker 1 (15:55):
All right, welcome back.
Speaker 2 (15:57):
It is the Kiss R Pre Show live on a
snowy Friday in Glasgow, Kentucky. Billy Rutledge and Shannon. The
dude here at Ashley Furniture.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Was Susanne the only one clapping. Come on, y'all, all
could be loud. Let's hear it. Come on, there we go.
There are people actually here there, there you go. They're
just so comfortable and cozy sitting on these sofas and chairs.
They're a little quiet. I mean, Matt might have to
wake a couple of people up during the sator today.
Matt Jones will not stand for a quiet crowd. He
will not let that happen. He will wake everybody up.
Speaker 2 (16:27):
I just retweeted something that the Big Blue Bowski tweeted
at us just listening to yesterday's podcast, Get a load
of this. It's a bunch of people's ages. But Shannon,
they look a lot older than what their.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Age is, so uh Fred Sanford, right, it was forty
eight years old and looks to be about seventy two.
I mean, it's crazy how much older people used to
look back in the day. I don't know if it's
the lifestyle. I don't know if it was what they
were eating, I don't know what what, or it is
probably the way they were dressing to a lot like
you and I were sitting here in like sweats and
a wom in sweater and jeans and a quarter zip
(16:58):
like me, and I think, you know, we probably dress younger.
I think that has maybe a little bit to do
with like how we look younger maybe than some of
these people, because back in the day, everybody had like
a the door on and in a suit.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
Yeah, well, I told you yesterday was the hose water.
I think it was what aged everybody back. I think that,
And also, I mean, it has our lives ever been
easier than it is right now?
Speaker 1 (17:19):
I gotta think maybe the strug is not every life.
Not everybody gets to host a radio show or a
living well No, but.
Speaker 2 (17:25):
I would say it's a lot easier to live in
twenty twenty five than it was maybe in nineteen seven.
Speaker 1 (17:29):
It is. Yeah, yeah, things have made you know, things
just readily available to you, right, and so I mean
these hands are soft because I'm not doing any manual
labor though, Shannon. I mean people that looked older just
were having to deal with the what if you weren't
doing radio, Like, what would you be doing. I know
you're not out there going to be like a construction
hard hat guy. No, no, no, you're gonna be working
in a factory. Probably work on a golf course.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
I mean I was a greenskeeper for a little bit,
so I mean I did do some labor.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
I'm surprised they let you near a golf course after
you drove the ballpicker into the lake. Well they didn't
know about that. Yeah, you don't put that on the resume, right. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
I got fired from the first golf course as the
cart boy, and then I had to go to the
greenskeeper staff.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
So that was a little bit of a downgrade. You
got demote it, you got a demotion, Yeah, a little bit.
Maybe they knew I could. I couldn't handle you couldn't
handle the moment. Couldn't handle it. Let's face it.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
One person on the text line said, Hey, Billy, Hey Shannon,
we have shooters. We just got to get them the ball.
Two games in a row, two games in a row.
Trent Noah was wide open multiple times and was like
they didn't even get.
Speaker 1 (18:27):
The ball close to him.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
He only played thirteen fourteen minutes in the last game. Shannon,
I mean, do you think Trent Noah has a role.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
On this team or of course yes. I mean that's
a guy that can shoot the ball. We know it,
we've seen. It goes back to maybe what we've heard,
and that is the on core chemistry issues, not getting
the right guy the ball at the right time possible.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Yeah, five guys currently on Kentucky's basketball roster averaged double.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Digit points in a game. Can you think you could
tell me those five the five guys that average double
digits in a game? Yes, well I got this one.
Otega Tego's won. Yeah. Think about the guys that play
the most. Brandon Garrison, No, you know he hasn't scored anything.
Brandon Garretton, No, just give him to me.
Speaker 2 (19:11):
Well, you're missing the leading scorer on the team, and
that's Denzel Abrity. He averages thirteen point six point supreyer game.
I believe he's just had to do this out of
necessity with Jalen Low being out, Otega away, Colin Chandler
the three point bomber this year, Mo Diabatee and Malachai
Moreno are your five guys that average double figures right
now for Kentucky, Moreno being the guy that coming off
(19:32):
the bench averaging double digits.
Speaker 1 (19:34):
A thought, huh, so you're gonna take the over under
on ten points tonight from Moreno? Oh over, it's gotta
have over, you think, So gotta be man. If not,
then we're in trouble.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
But like a freshman from Great Crossing is who we're
relying on. I mean, they spent twenty two million dollars
on this roster and it's a freshman from Kentucky.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Yep, that is going to be one of your most
important players of the year. Maybe, I mean, that's what
it seems like this roster construction went wrong. Yeah, yeah,
But I mean that he wasn't also supposed to be
the guy that's going to be getting all these minutes too.
He was a guy that's supposed to be on the bench,
and maybe we got a couple here or there spot
minutes from them, but injuries have sort of forced his
pope's hand and made him play some of these guys
(20:13):
off the bench.
Speaker 2 (20:14):
More Yeah, and you knew Jane quaintins On's it going
to be around for a while, so you were relying
on Brandon Garrison and Malachai Moreno, but I don't know.
It feels like money could have been spelled elsewhere. But
if you want to spend your money, you can do
it on Draft kick.
Speaker 1 (20:26):
Yeah. There you go sign up with promo code KSR,
bet five and if your bet hits, you're gonna ge
tw hundred dollars in bonus bets. You can do live betting,
same game parlay as player props. What is the what's
the spread for tonight?
Speaker 3 (20:37):
Said?
Speaker 2 (20:38):
I think it was THREEGA three or three and a
half as Wow, Okay, I thought maybe that would be
bigger than that.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
So if you want to put some money on Kentucky,
you can do it as a new customer with promo
code KSR. You bet five, your bet hits, you get
two hundred bonus bets only on DraftKings. The crown is yours.
If you have a gambling problem calling a hundred gambler
eighteen plus Kentucky only. Eligibility restrictions applied. That must win
to receive bonus bets, which expired in seven day has
been odds required for additional terms responsible gaming resources to
(21:03):
dkg dot co slash Audio limited time offer. We'll take
calls on the other side of this break.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
But a big congratulations to UK Volleyball who won their
first game in the NCAA tournament yesterday swept Wafford and
really only one of those sets was closed, so I think.
Speaker 1 (21:16):
That's what we expected.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
But tonight they will play again at seven p m
versus UCLA.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
So you know, I feel like, let's get out there
support them if you can. We have a watch party
at ksbar. I should probably know that you should probably
just go to Kasmart to watch the basket game volleyball
game a lot. I hate that those two games are
going on at the same time, right yeah, but I'm
sure we'll have one, you know, a couple of TVs
on the volleyball match as well, So good luck to
Craig Skinner and the team, and I think that this
(21:43):
team was going to be playing for a national championship
in a few weeks. I think they're going to make
it through the finals. Yeah, and two big names cla
and Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
So go out and support Craig Skinner in this volleyball team.
Whether you maybe you go to the basketball game and
you you know, you can listen to the game on the.
Speaker 1 (21:59):
Radio, so that's all you may have to do that.
I know John Short's good at multitask and he listens
to us on another show at the same hot so Short,
you know, I'm sure we'll be listening to volleyball and
Kentucky basketball at the same time, and then.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Whatever political show he's got on CNN that he always watches.
Speaker 1 (22:15):
John would be a good news anchor because you know,
you have to be talking, and you constantly get like
people talking to your ear.
Speaker 2 (22:20):
That's true, and I'm usually the one talking in people's
ear when it comes to the broadcast or as a producer,
which you're to the host. We're here at Ashley Furniture
in Glasgow. When he'd take a break, we'll be right
back here on the ksrpre show.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Welcome Back. It is the KSR pre show live on
a Friday, where you can find all the best mattresses
under one roof here at Ashley Furniture Outlet in Glasgow, Kentucky.
Also the free twenty five dollars MasterCard for taking a
test rest. I believe that offers valid in Glasgow and.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Somerset Ashley location. Okay, yeah, no, matter where you're at
in the state, you can make this happen. You made
a great point in the break that those double digit
point totals were probably more against the bad teams than
they were the good team.
Speaker 1 (23:00):
Oh yeah, yeah, they piled on against was it Nickels
or more than one hundred in one game? Right? Yeah? Yeah,
So I mean you look at it and it looks Yeah,
it's impressive. We got five guys that have double digits
as their average points. But then you know a couple
of them only played well Diabata only played five games
and most of them are against smaller Is that one
numbers lie to you?
Speaker 2 (23:19):
It's like that's when you have to take analytics with
a grain of salt, or do you still believe in
the numbers even though the sample size is mostly against
bad teams instead of Yeah.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
I mean again, Like we've talked about the analytics thing.
I think for the most part, analytics are a good thing.
But analytics can't tell you if a guy's sick this,
you know, like let's say a guy comes in and
he's averaging twenty points, but he's sick or he just
broke up with his girlfriend. Analytics don't tell you that.
So you know, sometimes you got to make your decisions
based on common sense.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
That's a great point. Yeah, do you start a player
that just broke up with his girlfriend? Like is he
super motivated or is he distracted? Well, I mean if
he's normally your starter and you don't start him, then
something those like people are gonna then you're.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Gonna throw them off even more. Yeah, so I think
you start them and then if he's not playing, then
you get to put him on the bed his head's
not in the game, to take him out, get the
girlfriend to get back with him at a half time, go
find her. We were down by fifteen, Yeah, we did.
We just have that conversation. What with was it Bruce
Pearl that was talking to one of the basketball players
(24:19):
I visiting a broadcast and she was dating like three
of his players when he was at Tennessee or all.
Oh yeah, you know what.
Speaker 2 (24:26):
I think he was revealing a little too much on
the broadcast recently and he started saying stuff like that, Yeah,
and you know, chemistry issues that can go a long
way too when you when you got a girl that
you're fighting over. Congratulations to Seth McCoy, Shannon, you know
we like world records here on the pre show, Seth
McCoy just broke the record for three pointers in twenty
four hours. This is not a basketball player, This is
(24:47):
just an average Joe has a setup. Yeah, it's just
a random dude. But he hit ten, six, twenty eight
three pointers in twenty four hours.
Speaker 1 (24:56):
Shannon, that sounds like something Mark Pope would say about
our basketball players. And then they get in the game,
they can't hit the broadside of a barn.
Speaker 2 (25:01):
I did the math. It comes down to seven point
three three pointers every minute. Wow, that's impressive for twenty
four hours. My question is who's the guy who's feeding
him the basketballs? Because you can't just do that by yourself.
You gotta have somebody else that's your partner, that's rebounding
right throwing the ball back out to you. That's the
real like, you know, the champion.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Of the whole thing, the guy that's got to just
rebound and throw the ball out for twenty four We'll
talk about an endurance challenge.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
I mean, you've got marathon runners talk about putting up
a three and making seven every minute twenty four hours.
If my math is right. Now, I'm a radio guy,
so I had to do the math.
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Don't ask me to check your math either, So I'm
going to take it at face value that you're right
on the math.
Speaker 2 (25:42):
So he made like over ten thousand, five hundred when
he only shot twelve and ten.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
So I mean he's hit a clip. I mean, how
young is this guy? Does he have is he an
old man? Or does he have any eligibility to use
him on the team? He said, like the well you sell, Like,
who do we get? Like, do we need to go
to the G League? No, I would go to Seth
McCoy who just hit ten thousand three pointers in twenty
four Yeah, but without a hand in his face. Shannon like,
it's okay, we can get him open, not at Repperina.
(26:09):
We can run some you know, some action to get
him open, but like set some screens. It's kind of cool.
Speaker 2 (26:15):
If you watch the video, he's at like a y
and then at the end like there's a huge crowd.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
You know, they're all there to see him break the
record and everything. But I don't know, Shannon, is that
our next attempt? I wouldn't want to do anything for
twenty four hours though. No, No, I mean I feel
like I've already done my big stunt. I forget. You
do a big stunt like I did. You're done. You're
not doing anymore. You walk fifty miles, you do that,
You're a hero. You're done. You're a hero. You get
your own day named after and he's only reminded us
(26:39):
every week. Well, yes, I mean you do that. I
think that's that's good enough. A five nine two two
eight seven. Let's take a call. Who's up next? Rick?
Kevin is up next? Hey, what's up? Kevin? All right?
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Man, appreciate you taking my call. Uh, just really excited
about just really really excited about taking over. We got
a new air coming. Got a question. Does the head
football coach the ce final say on uniforms and music's
at music at the stadium. I'm hoping he does and
that we get a change, uh new era. I'd like
(27:13):
to see the checkerboard on the shoulder pads go.
Speaker 1 (27:17):
You want the checkerboards back.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
Personally, you want to know. I want to know they
have the they still have the checkerboards on. Uh, like
the shoulder pads on the uniform.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
I think, right, but you want to get to.
Speaker 4 (27:31):
No, no, no, I don't know that that's in the past.
I want to get rid of the shoulder anything, anything,
get rid of anything. Grove Street was cool, but I
think it kind of identifies to you know, the last
few years, get a new walk out, you know the tunnel,
uh song and uh so excited.
Speaker 1 (27:50):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (27:51):
I had season tickets for years uh through the Brooks era.
I got rid of them joke after jokers first year,
and we're getting ready to get season tickets again. So
that's how excited and I am so awesome.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Yeah. I think a lot of fans that maybe didn't
renew their season tickets the last year or two are
back on board now, including will Stein's parents, right, yeah,
they had to buy.
Speaker 4 (28:14):
It's super excited for Stein and a new era. So
I can't wait to see what happens next year.
Speaker 1 (28:18):
All right, man, thank you for the right yep.
Speaker 2 (28:21):
Well, yeah, that's part of the reason why you make
a change is to kind of build that excitement again.
Speaker 1 (28:25):
As far as now question about you know, does he
have final say on the uniforms. Yes, I would say
coach said something.
Speaker 2 (28:31):
I don't think you would say no, right, You're not
like holding the line against your new head coach. If
he says that he doesn't want to play a certain song,
yea a certain uniform.
Speaker 1 (28:39):
I don't know that Will Stein's putting together the playlist
for the person who's doing that. But if he said, yeah,
we want this song and we're coming out to this song,
that absolutely. I mean, just think about Mark Pope bringing
back for the starting lineup the old music from the nineties.
Speaker 2 (28:52):
Yeah, yeah, the the Jordan Bulls right intro music. Yes,
we could find something like that for the football team.
It's just about doing maybe something new and getting that
excitement going A five nine two eight zero two two
eight seven. Did you like the news that Vandy explored
trying to find a thirteenth game so they could get
into the.
Speaker 1 (29:09):
College football playoffs?
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Clartin A told his players to keep a bag packed
and be ready to go, even to Hawaii.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Here's the thing, I have a couple of thoughts on this.
Number one, I think it is criminal that a team
that goes ten to two in the SEC is not
able to play for the college football playoffs. But then
the other side of me says, well, you had twelve
games to get it done and you didn't get it done, right,
But that just goes to show you in this twelve
team playoffs system that we have, now, you lose two games,
(29:36):
you're out unless your name's Alabama or Georgia. Now the
flip side of that also is that Vandy didn't exactly
play a great non conference schedule, so they could have
played a tougher non conference schedule and maybe you know,
uh been in the conversation more for the playoffs. But yeah,
I don't understand what they were trying to do. I mean,
I understand what they're trying to do, but like, there's
no you gotta think logistically, like you gotta get TV
(29:56):
on board with that. Like you can't just go play
a game and go, okay, we win. That's not how
it works.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
It did feel a little bit like high school football. Yeah,
we've had a bunch of COVID delays or rainouts, and
we got to get some more games on the schedule.
Speaker 1 (30:07):
Yeah, shouldn't have lost to Texas, I would say, it's a.
Speaker 2 (30:11):
Vague yeah, but it's also like the playoff committee, these
are done.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
These are decisions made by humans, right.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
I saw some news about like Vanderbilt beating Tennessee and
not getting that much of a bump despite Alabama beating Auburn.
Well their names Alabama, exactly, and it goes back to
these biases that we have as human and it almost
makes me yearn for the BCS days.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
Shit, well, you know if that had.
Speaker 2 (30:30):
Its problems, but yeah, at least that was just you know,
numbers and a computer that made these decisions.
Speaker 1 (30:35):
So you know what this is doing. Then this is
gonna make the case for the next year we expand
the playoffs more. Oh that's common because you're gonna say, well,
that team didn't make it, but there's always going to
be a team that doesn't make it. Yeah, yeah, there'll
always be a line, just like college tournament, just like
college BASKETBA Yeah exactly, So at some point you got
to cut it off. But you know, if Vandy fans
(30:56):
are going, well, we're never going to be ten and
two again in our lifetime. We want to make the playoffs.
But you don't just get to go schedule another game
because you're on the outside. Look, but this was this year.
Speaker 2 (31:05):
This Vandy team was the team though, right, I would
love to see them play some more games, even though
it would mean seeing a lot more of Diego Pavia's mom.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
But yeah, I guess that wouldn't be the worst. Though.
This doesn't just go to a bowl game and that'll
mean nothing. That'll mean nothing.
Speaker 2 (31:19):
There are It is conference championship weekend in college football.
We've got a couple of big matchups. Alabama Georgia in
the SEC. Indiana and Ohio State meet for the Big
Ten title. That is number one versus number two.
Speaker 1 (31:30):
Yeah, I can't wait. I'm actually pulling for Indiana. Hey,
Indiana football, you talk about Vandy, I mean be intended
to both of those teams. Never thought we would ever be.
It's like something would happen only on a video game.
That's right, you know, it does feel like a video
game more and more nowadays. Anybody from Bowling Green here,
anybody one Western blew it.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
They blew it again. Yeah, where are we on Tyson Hilton?
Because I mean this guy just can't win those big games.
I mean he can get over the six win mark,
but he can't win these conference championships.
Speaker 1 (31:59):
Or even get to the game. It is. It's frustrating.
I'm sorry, Billy, it's frustrating. It's okay at some prayers,
thank you have you'll get there next year. Thank you.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Well, they are going to make a bowl game, so
they do have that eight five nine two two too,
eight seven. Let's take another call, Rick, we have anybody else.
Speaker 1 (32:11):
On the line? Free Berges on the line. Oh, what's
a bird? What's up?
Speaker 3 (32:17):
Shout out to Glass because I've got a couple of buddies.
I played baseball on Lindsey Wilson, Corey Jones and Steven
Murphy down there. And I got a question, HFC, is
they have sixteen team playoffs every year. It seems like
the sixteen base teams done that same thing for years
and years. There's got to be a way to get
(32:40):
into twelve team and he is because Taste is one
of the top twelve teams. In my opinion, I don't
think they're gonna get him in the hope they do,
and I think, thank he's one of the top twelve
teams in here. You say Texas, I think Texas looks
at their schedule, I know.
Speaker 1 (33:06):
Yeah, then it comes down to win totals versus quality
of wins, you know, so then you gotta you gotta
look at that.
Speaker 2 (33:12):
Well, then Alabama just changed their schedule for the upcoming
next year and they're taking off all their tough non
conference games because it's more important to have a higher
win total than it is to play a better opponent.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
We'll see how that works out for them next year
they get, you know, higher win totals, but then they're
against crappy teams. I'm sure. I'm sure will still put
them in because they're Alabama.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
And then then Vandy finds themselves in that similar anything else.
Speaker 3 (33:34):
Free if you want. While you're there, look up schedule
for next year.
Speaker 1 (33:43):
Oh yeah, yeah, I don't even have a conference. Notre Dame.
I feel like, just play Notre Dame. Just plays by
their own rules. I'd be fine with kicking Notre Dame
out of the inside.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
They've got their own TV deal, they schedule whoever they want.
Speaker 1 (33:52):
Why do we allow Notre Dame. We're Notre Dame. We
don't need a conference. We'll get out of there. That's
the way I feel that Notre Dame. Yep, thanks for
the coffee bird. Yeah, I don't know. I mean it's
made for TV, is it not?
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Like this is run by these you know, these people
that want as many eyeballs as possible. So that's it's
getting everybody to talk about it. Eight five nine two
eight oh two two eight seven. We'll take a break
here at Ashley's Furniture in Glasgow where you can save
up to eight hundred dollars on adjustable sets and no
interest until December twenty thirty on all premium mattresses.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
That is a heck of a deal. This is a
great deal. I've got something I want to talk about
next segment. I don't know if you get it on.
You got something on your mind? Uh yeah? A guy
who committed to a school that he didn't want to
go to. Do you know the story? I don't.
Speaker 2 (34:41):
Let's talk about it coming up. But I bet you
he is not alone. I'm sure there are some other
people out there. We'll take a break and be right
back here on the KSR pre Show. Welcome back. It
is the KSR pre Show live on a Friday at
Ashley's Furniture Outlet in Glasgow. Channon, you were telling me
about a kid that signed in a school he didn't
want to go to.
Speaker 1 (35:01):
Okay, have you ever heard of the name legend bay No,
But that does sound like a football player today with
these weird names. Yes, he's a four star quarterback who
signed yesterday with Tennessee, but he didn't want to. He's
seventeen years old, originally committed to Tennessee before de committing
in November, and then it looked like he was going
to flip to Ohio State. The only problem was his
(35:24):
family didn't want him to. His mom, because he's seventeen,
I guess he had to have a letter of intent
that she had to sign. His mom refused to sign
the letter of intent for him to go to Ohio
State because she wanted him to go to Tennessee. So
we ended up being forced to commit to Tennessee. The
crazier part is his entire signing day table was Ohio
(35:46):
State theme oh No, and he posted multiple like graphics
and stuff on social media indicating that he would be
going to Ohio State and his mom didn't allow him to.
So now he's committing to Tennessee. Legend Base. He sounds
like a legendary Mama's boy to me, he's got to
go to Tennessee. I'm gonna call it right now. He'll
(36:07):
he'll go there for one year and then he turns eighteen,
he's gonna flip. He's gonna go to Ohio State.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
I did not know the detail that you if you
weren't eighteen, that you had to have a signature for
scholarships or yeah, or you know, national letters of intent.
But I mean, I'm sure this has happened in the past.
But with all this niol money.
Speaker 1 (36:25):
Player, remember the yeah, And here's the thing, I'd say,
all right, mom, you're not getting any of this Niow money.
When I make millions of dollars, I'm not giving you
a penny of it. Yeah. Talk about like creating a
bad relationship. Parents. Again, let your kids have their experience,
you know, if they want to go there, Let them
go where they want to go. As I've said before, Mom,
your time has passed. So this is not about you.
(36:46):
This is about the kid where he wants to go.
I think that's horrible that the parent would not sign
the letter of intent for him to go to Ohio State,
which is clearly where he wanted to go.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
Well, you got to let him make their own mistakes
as well, Right, I don't they going to Ohio State
it's a mistake. Well it could be, I mean, I mean,
but in his eyes maybe it isn't right. So that
is just overbearing. And I hate to hear that mom
is stepping in.
Speaker 1 (37:07):
Sheh, what would mom?
Speaker 2 (37:08):
What would you do if mom tried to step in
and say you couldn't go to Lindsay Wilson.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Well it's a little bit different. Yeah, yeah, well I
would be mad. And Lindsay Wilson I probably wouldn't be
making any Nile money, but at Tennessee he's gonna be
making some. But I would just I.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
Would cut her off. Your mom wants that Anile money.
She wants you to go to a different school, but no,
your heart is in Columbia. Yeah, well that's a I
hate that for the kid. And I would say if
he could wait till leaves eighteen. I don't know when
he turns eighteen, but I bet you that's not the
end of that story. Like, I bet you want more.
You know what happened in that process child abuse? Making
a kid go to Tennessee is that's a good line that.
Speaker 1 (37:49):
Should have got more reaction from the audience here. That
was good.
Speaker 2 (37:53):
John Rothstein announced yesterday that the Royal Palm Invitational will
be created and start next year. A basketball turmurnament in
Dubai in November of twenty twenty six. Excited about it,
I don't know, I just I know many multiple Power
Conference teams are expected to be involved.
Speaker 1 (38:11):
Do you think Kentucky could be one of those teams?
Hope not, but I mean, you know, Kentucky though we
looked at the players era right, thing that was going on,
so we thought, you know, they would be a part
of that. I don't think Kentucky would be Kentucky seems
to I think we'll stay home and we'll do the
BBN United Classic presented by Kentucky Tourism. We'll just we'll
(38:31):
do that instead. Okay.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
So now you have tournaments where you make a million
dollars just for showing up. Yeah, and now college basketball
is sold out and doing tournaments in Dubai.
Speaker 1 (38:39):
I mean, what are we doing here, folks like taking
it internationally?
Speaker 3 (38:43):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (38:43):
Is it all about the money? Is that what we're doing?
I mean, how many times have I told you it's
all about the money. I mean, where are our morals, Shannon,
We have none. We have done, but I don't know
you think Mitch Barnhart would allow that to happen. And
it doesn't seem like a very.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
Moore sounds like he's on his way out. I mean,
sure knows if he's going to be made these decisions.
But we've talked about Maui and getting back in these tournaments.
Speaker 1 (39:03):
Don't ask him about it. He's been asked nineteen different ways.
As they're going to Dubai, Billy quit asking. Yeah, did
you see?
Speaker 2 (39:10):
I got a quote for you, Shannon. I want you
to I want your thoughts on this. Jackson Dart is
the quarterback for the New York Giants. We didn't get
to do NFL Cover zero this week with a lot
going on, so I didn't get to bring up this topic.
Speaker 1 (39:19):
So I want to bring it to you. OK.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
The Giants have asked Jackson Dart to stop running so hard.
He's a quarterback. He needs to protect himself. He's lowering
his shoulder. He's not slide in, Shannon, So you need
to run and Jackson Dart after the game was upset,
upset with reporters and the team for asking him to
stop running. He said, that's a part of his game.
I'm not playing soccer out here. You're going to get hit.
Speaker 1 (39:40):
Things happen. It's a part of the game absolutely. Being quarterback,
you got to be one of the toughest guys out
there on the field. So I like that. I mean,
I could see the Giants occasionally wanting him to slide
and not risk getting injured. But you can't. I think
you get injured a lot of times when you're playing
not to get injured, you.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Know, exactly. And that's kind of my overall point with this.
He got to the NFL by being this rushing quarterback.
You cannot just change who you are, change your idea
because of the level that you're at right now. I
get the you gotta slide sometimes protect your body availability
is the best ability, But you cannot, like change who
somebody is. Yeah, that degree you change how you play.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Again, you're if you play to not get hurt, you're
playing too cautiously sometimes and like I said, that sometimes
leads to injury.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
At Kentucky in years past. Maybe levis a little bit.
Speaker 1 (40:29):
I mean, I don't know, maybe maybe so, But I
mean I understand the Giants wanting to protect their quarterback.
You know, you don't want the guy to get hurt.
At the same time, if you have a guy who
plays that way, sometimes you almost just gotta let them
be who he is.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
I'm just a little frustrated with the sport. I mean
in the NFL, like the penalties for roughing the pastor
and things like that. It just looks unrecognizable. And like
you talk to some of these old old football players
that you know, broke a leg and still got back
out there, Shannon, It's.
Speaker 1 (40:56):
Just it's just not the same. Hey, one more time,
let me tell you a DraftKings sportsbook from KSR. Bet five.
If your bet Hitch, you're gonna get two hundred dollars
in bonus bets. You can do the game tonight. Kentucky.
Three points is the difference between Kentucky and Gonzaga. Do
you think that it's going to be closer than that
or do you think that maybe Gonzaga runs away. I
think if it's a blowout, it's not gonna because Kentucky
blows them out. I think it might be the other
(41:17):
way around.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
Yeah, I think I'm gonna pick Gonzaga on the graphic today,
Shannon Yep well, you're gonna get roasted, I'm sure, like
like I did in North Carolina.
Speaker 1 (41:25):
But yeah, I was right. So sometimes, you know, we
got to pick against Kentucky. They're not playing well right now.
DraftKings Promo, coksr A the Cronoshors. That's right.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
So seven pm tonight Kentucky Gonzaga. At seven pm tonight
Kentucky versus UCLA. Good luck to Craig Skinner and the
UK volleyball team. But we're here in Glasgow. We'll hand
it off to KSR coming up next. Thank you everybody
for coming out here for the KSR pre show. This
is a good crowd for Shannon the Dude on Billy Rutledge.
We will talk to you on Monday.
