(00:23):
We're two weeks away from Christmas, Billy, I have yet
to make an attempt to go Christmas shopping yet.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Are you with me?
Speaker 1 (00:29):
Are you holding strong with me? Have you started your
Christmas shopping yet?
Speaker 2 (00:33):
No?
Speaker 3 (00:33):
Of course not? Okay, good good, I'm on the same boat.
Speaker 4 (00:35):
I mean, I told you yesterday I don't even have
the tree up, so I mean we're not in the Christmas.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
You're not even celebrating Christmas at all. It doesn't sound
like if you don't have the tree going now, at
least have that.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah, I know we need to kick it into gear.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
But are you somebody that will hang lights or have
we had this conversation in the past, you have like
permanent lights or something like that.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
Yeah. Yeah, last year I did the the GOVI lights.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yeah, and you put them up and they're there all
year round, so you don't obviously have your Christmas lights going,
because that would be tacky if you had Christmas lights.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Going in March and you know, April, May, all throughout
the year.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
But what you do is just put them on like
a normal warm white and it's like, uh, you know,
like an ambient light that you have year round, and
then when it's Christmas time, you just go boom, you
pull up your laptop and then you could have Christmas
lights and when it's Halloween you gonna have Halloween lights.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
So it's so easy.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Is that It's awesome. I love it. You put up
Christmas lights one time and they're done forever.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Well. I mean when you see stats like fifteen percent
of er visits in the month of December are because
of falling off of ladders trying to put up Christmas lights,
then something like that becomes really attractive. So yeah, yeah,
I have fond memories of it being butt cold outside
and helping my dad get on the ladder to put
up lights. Shannon, it's just that time of year, but
(01:52):
usually we'd make fun of the people that still had
their lights up in July. But you know what that
seems like the plan that you're going for.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
No, well, no, I mean, like I said, it's not
Christmas lights there.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
They're multi use. They go from Christmas lights to just
regular house lights and then it's all there for you.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:07):
And you know me, like, I'm not handy. You know,
my ass is not getting up on a ladder and
putting up lights. I'm the guy that's on the ground
going yeah, I think you missed a spot right there.
I'm the supervisor when it comes to anything that's handyman work.
Speaker 3 (02:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
So you plug it in and there's three bulbs that
don't work. You got that before he even started.
Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah, all right, So let's talk some basketball. Last night,
Kentucky blows out in c Central. No surprise here, we
knew that was gonna happen. One o thirty sixty seven
career high for Jasper Johnson. He had twenty two away
played good last night. I guess my main takeaway, Billy
from the whole thing was that Mark Pope did not
seem to be happy at all. He had that you
(02:47):
could tell he had a bad taste in his mouth
from getting blown out against Gonzaga last week, and it
was it was almost bizarre, like I know that he,
you know, takes these losses really hard. And I posted
a clip on Twitter at into the dude if you
want to see it, if you didn't see it from
last night. But it's just like he was sort of
awkward in the postgame presser answering some of these questions.
(03:10):
I think, you know, he was asked about trying to
send a message to some of his players. Brandon Garrison
got benched the entire second half because he just jogged
back and gave up a layup.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
On the other end after a turnover.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Jalen Lowe, Cam Williams didn't play at all in the
first half, So maybe there were some messages trying to
be sent from Pope to his players to try to
get these guys back in the right mindset moving forward
for the rest of the season.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Well, if he was sending messages, it was about effort
and energy, you know. I think obviously the storyline was
Brandon Garrison and how quick he pulled him off the
court after he didn't run back after that turnover. You know,
I'm tired of watching you go sit down, Go sit down.
That's the kind of fire that I think we needed
to see out of Pope after getting his butt kicked
against these better teams.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
But I mean not only that.
Speaker 4 (03:57):
I mean he goes to halftime and is hiss talking
about defensive breakdowns even though he's up by quite a bit.
And then afterwards in the postgame he says things like,
you know, Trent Noah, who ended up starting in this game.
He said, Trent isn't a perfect player, but he gives
everything he has, And I think that's what this team's
looking for right now, right I mean looking for guys
that I mean, if you're maybe a little less skilled,
(04:19):
but you're going to give one hundred percent effort, those
are the guys that should be on the court right now. So, yeah,
that Brandon Garrison thing was a long time coming.
Speaker 5 (04:27):
Man.
Speaker 4 (04:27):
That should have happened four games ago, probably, But that
was good to see, wasn't it.
Speaker 6 (04:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
I mean he's not the only guy that did that.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
It was sort of not giving their full effort in
the last couple of games.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
But he just did it at the wrong time.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
He just, you know, like this this was not the
game to have anybody not giving their full effort and
Brandon Garrison, now.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
He'll play again. Yeah yeah, a single minute after that.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
I think that he had to be made an example of,
and he was the guy that Pope chose after you know,
he just kind of lollygagged back down the court. Here's
the other quote that kind of stood out to me.
Pope said, he said, we got good guys. We have
good guys, we have competitive guys. We don't really know
what it means to compete yet, which is terrifying, but
we will. We're gonna learn. We're learning fast. What does
(05:12):
it mean we don't know what we don't want? He said,
we don't really know what it means to compete yet.
How do you have guys that don't know what it
means to compete? I don't understand that quote.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Yeah, I mean Brandy Garrison was on the team last year,
so was taking Oh way, those two guys should Colin
Chandler should be able to tell people how to compete.
But do you think that means like they're not good
at responding to adversity, like when things start to go wrong.
Maybe it's just a snowball effect with this team. There's
really not people to stand up, say something and kind
of change the vibe because that's kind of where I
(05:45):
felt with that quote with him.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
Yeah, maybe so, maybe so.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
But uh, you know Olway was talking about he was
asked about are there any off the court issues with
the team, and he said there's none at all, which
I don't know what you expect him to say. Do
you think he's really going to say, yeah, yeah, we
hate each other behind the scenes.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Like in the locker room, we're at each other's throat.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
Of course he's not gonna guys. Yeah, but he said
it's all on the court.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
Do you believe them?
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Or do you think there's still some stuff going on
behind closed doors that we don't know about with this team?
Speaker 6 (06:11):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:12):
Well I would just be speculating, you know, Like you said,
what else is he gonna say?
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:17):
But you know, several players were asked about off the
court stuff, so you know, if there are issues, I'm
sure it will come out eventually. But you know, this
is about getting healthy and starting to play some good
basketball because you have fallen flat on your face these
first few weeks, maybe this first month or so, and
you've got to start winning some non conference games before
(06:38):
you get into the conference season. Did you see how
many points Indiana?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Oh my god, I mean.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
They just Lamar Wilkerson broke a record for ten threes
in a single game.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
You remember that name, right, Ryan guaranteed Ryan and Lemon
guaranteed he was going to come to Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
That was a scoop.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
As a matter of fact, I think Lamar Wilkinson's the
guy that like broke Ryan Lemon's scoop. I don't think
Ryan scooped at all since he misscooped Lamar Wilkerson not
coming to Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (07:06):
Man, I would love to have them at Kentucky right now.
Hit what was it ten threes? Last night?
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Ten three?
Speaker 1 (07:11):
Piana shot seventeen of thirty one from three that had.
Speaker 3 (07:15):
One hundred points against Penn State with five minutes left.
Speaker 1 (07:18):
That is going to be a problem on Saturday if
they shoot anywhere close to that, because we don't have
guys that can match that type of shooting. I mean,
forty four points last night for Lamar Wilkerson.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
Crazy Well.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
Pope didn't call it a tweak.
Speaker 4 (07:34):
He called it a shift in the pregame putting Trent
Noah in the starting lineup. You know, I'm still convinced
this team needs a stretch for shooting at the four
is going a long way. So when Jaden Quainton's come back,
it cannot be Quaintins and moreno, cannot be Brandon Garrison
and Quaintance like, it needs to be somebody that can
shoot at that four spot. So we'll see. But you know,
(07:55):
we talked about the last Marque game being a must
win for Kentucky. If they can't beat Indiana at Rupperena,
then the noise is going to get loud, Shannon, and
the resume is just not going to be good enough
at the end of the year.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
Well, I mean Indiana's good though, I mean they're not
in the top twenty five now. They just lost to
Loville this past weekend. But and I don't know, like
how good of a team Penn State has. But you
beat somebody that bad, that's still a team in your conference.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
So it's gonna be.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Tough on Saturday. You're right, though, Man, at some point
you got to beat somebody.
Speaker 4 (08:26):
Yeah, you're running out of time in the non conference,
Like Saint John's is one of the more disappointing teams
this year. That's not going to give you that huge
resume boost that you need, you know. Meanwhile, you've got
some teams that are building that resume.
Speaker 3 (08:37):
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (08:38):
I let me ask you something. Jasper Johnson looked pretty
good last night. He had a career hid twenty two points.
But again, this was against UNC Central. Are you convinced
this guy can do that against the better competition or
do you think he's still a year away?
Speaker 2 (08:49):
Well, didn't he have a really good game? Was it?
I'm trying to remember he had a good game earlier
this year. I think it was a preseason game.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
Yeah, it wasn't.
Speaker 2 (08:57):
Purdue, was it? Or was it? I can't can't remember. Anyway,
he has shown like signs of brilliance.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
So yeah, I think that he can be a guy
that can you know, can go off on any given night.
I don't know that he's going to be your most
consistent player. I think that's otakea Oway And as much
crap as we've given Oway for playing bad this year,
at least he's been the guy who's scored twelve to
twenty points every single night, regardless of how tough we've
been on him.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
But yeah, Jasper Johnson, I feel.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
Like is a guy that can go out there and
on any given night get you twenty points.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Well Oway needs to be that guy, he needs to
be the number one.
Speaker 4 (09:31):
But Jasper's role is really I think a backup point
guard spot, and that allows Aberdeen colline handler to play
off the ball, and Jasper becomes important when you don't
play Jalen Lowe for the entire first half of the game,
and you didn't see Cam Williams either. Now you know,
Goose was talking about Jalen low being a little sick,
being sent home at the end of practice yesterday, still
getting back with the speed of the game, So maybe
(09:52):
fatigue was a reason there. But I don't know why
Cam didn't play.
Speaker 1 (09:55):
Yeah, I'm not sure if that was like something that
was carried over from the Gonzaga game or again, we're
just we're just speculating at this point. We really don't know.
I do agree with Matt something Matt said yesterday. You know,
when we get to the SEC schedule, you look ahead
and you look at this stretch of games with Missouri
at home, Mississippi State at home, LSU on the road.
(10:16):
Let's see what they do with those three games right
there at that point, I think you would expect to
have Jaden Quaintan's back. I'm not sure about Mo Dia Bats.
He's kind of day to day place Saturday. You think
Mobi will be back on Saturday.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
That's what he's been telling people, had a closed practice
that he will be We're back Saturday.
Speaker 3 (10:34):
But again that's not confirmed.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Okay, so let's just assume we got all the guys back.
We got jaylen Lowe, we got Quaintance, we got so yeah,
a pull roster. Would you agree? And I tend to
agree with Matt on this that let's see what happens
in that three game stretch right there, because I don't
think I'm not going to give them much of a
chance against Alabama on the road. So let's just probably
call that a loss right now.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
All right?
Speaker 1 (10:54):
Okay, but then do you agree though, with that three
game stretch there will have a better idea if this
team is going to make the tournament or not based
on how they do.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Their Boy, the bar has gotten a lot lower, it
has it has. I mean, now we're saying this three
game stretch will determine if they're a tournament team or not.
The fact that you're saying you're not even giving this
team a chance to compete with Alabama tells me all
I need to know that this team doesn't have the
talent to go on a run to make Big Blue
Nation happen.
Speaker 1 (11:19):
I mean, you can disagree if you think that they've
got a good chance against Alabama, But go ahead, do
you disagree or not? Do you think they got a
chance against to Alabama?
Speaker 4 (11:28):
Well, I don't know how good Jane acquaintance is. I mean,
people that go to practice rave about how this guy
is a grown man and he's going to completely change Kentucky.
I just don't know. I'm gonna have to wait until
I see it to believe it. Your initial question, Yes,
that three game stretch is really going to put things
into perspective and define what this season really is. Those
(11:49):
are three beatable opponents? Are they two or three at home?
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Shannon? Or what was Missouri and Mississippi State at home?
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Two of three at on? You've got to take care
of business. You have to win to with a three. No,
you really should win all three. But if you need
to get two of the three of those three games,
but you know, I still need to see them do
this versus better competition and not just LSU and Missouri
in UNC Central. Now there's a big gap between those two,
But there's also a big gap between Missouri and LSU
(12:18):
in Michigan State and Alabama. Right, I mean, these are
just the teams that Kentucky is gonna have to beat
if they want to accomplish anything. And I think Mark
Pope finally gets that. Yeah, and that's why he's starting
to see that on the.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
Court a little bit a little fire.
Speaker 1 (12:30):
Where do you think Kentucky has their first like what
I'll call marquee win. Indiana's not a top twenty five
team right now, but we'll count them. You think they
get to win over Indiana on Saturday?
Speaker 4 (12:39):
No, No, I think maybe they get Saint John's on
an St.
Speaker 2 (12:43):
John's.
Speaker 4 (12:44):
I'm just and I'm just trying to speak something into
existence here. I am worried after seeing that Indiana game
versus Penn State. Man, if they're gonna shoot like that,
If they're gonna shoot like that.
Speaker 2 (12:55):
I don't know what you do at that point.
Speaker 1 (12:57):
I mean, yeah, if you're gonna any team that's gonna
shoot seventeen of thirty one from three, good night, man,
it's over. Like you got to get out there and
defend those guys. You're not beating any team that's shooting
like that.
Speaker 4 (13:09):
I just don't think Kentucky has the shooting to keep
up even if they had a middle of the road
shooting night.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
If I'm trying to be like, Okay, let's find something
to be optimistic about. I can look at at North
Carolina game, and even though they lost, they played pretty
well defensively. They held North Carolina in the sixties. And
you can do that against Indiana. Even though I don't
our offense, I don't really believe in it against good opponents.
I could be talked into, Okay, if you hold Indiana
(13:35):
in the sixties, you can win that game.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Well, you can.
Speaker 4 (13:38):
But that was North Carolina without their starting point guard
as well. I mean, this was that was not the
world beater that maybe Michigan State has been early on
this year, and they got embarrassed in that one.
Speaker 3 (13:48):
So I don't know.
Speaker 4 (13:49):
I'm still reeling and recovering from that Gonzaga game. I
think a lot of us are. But you know, the
first two callers of the postgame show last night thought
that Mark Pope's fire was performative and like he was
hearing the critics and needed to do something for the
fan base, and I just formative.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
You mean like he was just like putting on an act.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Yes, yeah, like that's out of character for Mark. He's
trying to just galvanize the guys or try to get
any energy out of him as not being himself.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
No, that's not fair though, because agreed.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
If you say that you think it's all in act,
then what I mean what you can you want.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Him to be fired up, that he's fired up?
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Then you say it's an act, he's him if he doesn't,
So I mean, which is it? Do you want your
coach to be fired up? Mark Pope was fired up
last night? Do you want him to be that way?
Or do you are you you know when he does that? Finally,
are you gonna go, well, it's just all in act.
Speaker 2 (14:37):
You can't have it both ways.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
No, And to a degree, you've got to give Mark
Pope a chance.
Speaker 4 (14:42):
We've got to give him some patience to be able
to try to get this roster back. Now, can we
lose our minds in the process, Yes, I'm sure and
we will. But at the same time, let's, you know,
let's have some perspective that you know, he is somebody
that does understand what it means to where the Kentucky
Blue and White.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
And let's just see if he can get the players too, all.
Speaker 1 (15:01):
Right, eight five, nine two, eight twenty two eighty seven,
give us a call. We'll take some of your calls.
Coming up next to on the other side of the break,
I want to talk about Craig Skinner and his new
video that he just did. He keeps going higher and
higher into the atmosphere to try to promote UK volleyball,
which is awesome.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
We'll talk about that. The Colts having.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
To go deep, old Man River, deep into the list
of guys that they want to bring in for their
quarterback because their other three are down. We'll talk about
that and a whole lot more. Coming up next it
is the ksrpre Show. Yeah, it really is no more
mister nice guy for Pope. You know, at some point though,
like the niceness had to like, do you know when
(15:41):
you're a coach you gotta be kind of a hard
ass sometimes, you know. It's just yeah, I don't think
the nice guy thing works long term. One person wrote
in and says, Pope broke a clipboard in the huddle
after he tore into Brandon Garrison last night at the
side of him I've never seen before. You know, we
heard about him breaking the white board in the locker
room last year.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Maybe it's some of what we what.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Was going on, you know in the locker room. We
finally got to see it last night during the game.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (16:10):
Not everything's sunshine and rainbows or everything's not beautiful.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
Or lovely, and the one was everything was beautiful.
Speaker 3 (16:18):
Well it's not not right now.
Speaker 4 (16:19):
And you know, even the nicest guy can get pushed
to their limits, Shannon, and you know, don't push my buttons.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
You Yeah, me, I'm a tough guy.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
I'm really afraid of you.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (16:31):
Well, I'm not a coach, so I don't have that
type of fire.
Speaker 4 (16:33):
But you know what, I think everybody's got a breaking point, right, Yeah,
I mean somebody sucker punch Ryan Lemon in a parking lot.
You better believe I'm jumping in there, dude.
Speaker 1 (16:41):
Oh yeah, yeah, we're talking about that. I'm just talking
about you know, you keep.
Speaker 2 (16:45):
Calling me names about need lean you verbally.
Speaker 3 (16:48):
You want to keep talking about that lamp?
Speaker 2 (16:50):
Yep.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
I'll try to push you to your limit every day,
you know, Like how far can I take Billy before
you just snaps.
Speaker 3 (16:55):
That's why I've aged in dog years since I got
this show.

how's it going?
Speaker 5 (17:48):
Guys, hey, you after watching the game last night. What
I was glad to see the three point shootout play,
to see the ball movement. Basically, if you can't make threes,
you know, without ball movement to really get your feet
set and you swing that ball around to the outfice
side of the court. There's always someone in the corner
on the wing and when their feet set, Colin Chandler
and Noah are dead eye Jasper. I'm still out out think,
(18:10):
you know, and then maybe maybe not. He's a good driver.
I don't know if he kicks when he should kick,
and you know he drives sometimes when he shouldn't. But
if they don't win Saturday in Broperena against Indiana, man,
there's gonna be some more booze come out. You know.
I don't want to be the bear of rat news,
but I mean it's gonna be bad if you lose
to Indy. Another ribbery he had home of a team
(18:31):
that ain't even ranked. Yeah, it's gonna be bad. And
I was glad to see Mark Popet angry last night
center and he played for Patino and as crazy as
Patino was, especially sometimes making him walk out after the game,
having practiced and stuff. I'm glad to see the fire
come out in him. I think sometimes he cries in
the day's age. You try to be too nice, so
you don't want the player to leave or go somewhere
(18:51):
next year. But man, if I don't want if they're
not playing for, you don't want him anyway, do.
Speaker 2 (18:54):
You That's true?
Speaker 5 (18:56):
That's all I got. Guys, they shout out to Bob Watkins.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
All right, thanks for the calls right now.
Speaker 1 (19:00):
Are you surprised that there's not a little bit more
Rick Patino in Mark Pope's coaching style? You know, because
Rick was really tough on these guys, and I feel
like Mark Pope's kind of, you know, more laid back,
reserved a lot of times. You know, I would think
that coming from playing for a guy like Rick Patino,
you would you would have some of that reflection in
your your coaching style.
Speaker 4 (19:21):
Yeah, but Rick Patino is an alien, like there is really.
I don't think anybody like Patino in the sport never
will be. And I also think coaching is a lot
like radio Shannon. I think that if you like try
to not be yourself, people are gonna be able to
so you recognize that pretty early, right, So, I mean
he's a smart guy. I remember he dropped out of
medical school three years into it. I mean, he he
(19:42):
has a way of doing things, and it's worked at
other stops, but just Kentucky's a different animal, right And
when you're under that microscope and spotlight and you lose
a non conference game like this, then everything gets questioned.
I think that's just the nature of the beast. But
he understands that, he says he does. At least you
know the color right up Trent Noah Man, I'm saying
he could be one of the more important guys down
(20:03):
the stretch for this team. If him or Cam Williams
could give some you know, be productive at the four
and start hitting some shots, that would change this offensive lot.
So it was good to see him in the starting
lineup last night.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (20:15):
The other thing too that he mentioned was Rapperena and
you know, losing games at RUP. Now the North Carolina game,
I felt like the crowd showed up and were great,
But I feel like Rapperena hasn't quite been the home
court advantage. It used to be, like Billy, they used
to never lose at home, and now over the years
you know, you lose the and then this was a
(20:36):
CALI team, so maybe it's not fair. But you know,
the UNC Wilmington loss, I think about that. You know,
the COVID year they were lost to Richmond Evansville, I
mean teams.
Speaker 2 (20:44):
That you would never lose to.
Speaker 1 (20:45):
And over the last I don't know, let's just say
since COVID, it feels like Rapperena hasn't quite been the
same whole home court advantage that it maybe once was.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
And I don't know why that is. It just feels
that way.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
Is the mystique gun at all with Properena. I mean,
I understand, like the sweater vests. Lower level doesn't get
into the game as much as other schools, and that's
why top ten arenas in college basketball for environment you
probably won't see Rapperena. But I don't know, it's still
a mecca of college basketball. It's just maybe not the
most rambunctious right well.
Speaker 1 (21:18):
I mean again, like when it's at its best, it's
it's one of the I think the better home court
advantages in college basketball. But it's not always like that,
you know, Like I go back to the North Carolina
game I just mentioned crowd was great. Crowd was allowed
the entire time. You lose that game, still though.
Speaker 3 (21:35):
Well, give us something to cheer about.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
I guess, I guess.
Speaker 3 (21:39):
And then when I stand up to cheer, don't tell
me to sit down.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Yeah, I mean combine those two teams and that is
a mixture to not have a good environment.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
That is a whole whole other debate.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
We do hear the arena erupt when Zach Tao hit
a three pointer.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
People did.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Man, that was awesome too, and Pope said that he
gave like a pregame speech and then to do that
and then to come out there and knocked I had
a deep three in the corner.
Speaker 2 (22:02):
It's pretty awesome.
Speaker 4 (22:03):
Walker horning, Zac Howe salvaging the season, Shannon with all
this positivity.
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Yeah, it was his first ever made field goal in
his career at Kentucky, So it's pretty awesome.
Speaker 2 (22:13):
Hey, we're gonna take a break.
Speaker 1 (22:14):
We'll take your phone calls coming up next eight five
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven at Shannon
the dude at Billy R Sports, or you send us
a text if I have two two six five six
six five six, it is the KSR pre show.
Speaker 2 (22:26):
We'll be right back.
Speaker 1 (22:30):
KSR pre show Shannon the Dude Billy Relige eight five
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. UK Volleyball
Billy Tomorrow plays in the Sweet sixteen three point thirty
at Historical Memorial Colisseum. I'm playing higher for Creed because
of Craig Skinner's latest stunt. He went up in a
jet airplane to UH to encourage people to buy tickets
(22:51):
for the show. But you know, it all started when
he uh got up on a desk a table at
a press conference and asked everybody to buy tikes gets
to come see UK Volleyball. Then he went up on
top of the Chrysler building believe was the Chrysler building
and UH and did the same thing. Now, the only
thing to top that is to go up in a jet,
which he did in his latest video. If you haven't
(23:12):
seen that yet, what's next? Are we gonna send Craig
Skinner to the moon? Like, how do we top the
jet promotion?
Speaker 2 (23:18):
You remember?
Speaker 4 (23:19):
You remember the red bull guy that dropped from space.
I think if we got to send him up into the.
Speaker 3 (23:23):
Stratosphere, into the ether, just beat them up, just keep
on going up.
Speaker 4 (23:28):
I mean, we've got more games to win, But that
was a pretty cool video. Him getting being in the
jet made me think of I think Drew Franklin.
Speaker 3 (23:35):
Flew with the the Blue Angels. Yep, are you getting
in that jet?
Speaker 2 (23:39):
Hell?
Speaker 1 (23:40):
No, I don't even like flying commercial. You kidding me? Like,
I'm not a fan of heights.
Speaker 3 (23:47):
Would you do that before skydiving?
Speaker 2 (23:50):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (23:50):
At least I'm theoretically still in the plane.
Speaker 4 (23:54):
That is.
Speaker 1 (23:54):
That is like, of all the things that I could do,
that is probably the last, like the lead least thing
that I would do. Like you're saying, like what are
the percentages you would do this, this or this? Jumping
out of a plane is like at the very bottom
like that, ain't That's just not happening unless you throw
me out of a plane. I Am not gonna go
out of a plane. Is not going to do it.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Yeah, you're fine right here on the ground.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Yeah, I'm a very grounded person.
Speaker 4 (24:18):
Now, would you get in a submarine? Can we go
explore the Titanic record?
Speaker 1 (24:21):
I don't like that either, especially when the guy that's
controlling it is using an Xbox controller, as we found
out in that story where all the millionaires went down on.
Speaker 2 (24:28):
A submarine and they got stuck in there.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
But that was a company cutting corners, Like we're gonna
do this right five years from now.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
And let's say Katy Perry's on the boat.
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Too, well, you know maybe, I mean we're already sent
her up to outer space with Gail King, right.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
That's right now, she needs to go down under.
Speaker 2 (24:48):
Like where would you write? Have you been skydiving before?
Speaker 4 (24:50):
I haven't, but it's very on the list, Like the
fiance is really wants to do that, and I just
keep saying no, just like this second cat, we're still
trying to hold the line.
Speaker 2 (25:00):
M hm no.
Speaker 3 (25:01):
But I would get in the jet. I would do that, yeah,
before I would go sky That reminds me.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
By the way, last week, I got some random tech
You ever get this random text from people that think
that you're somebody else?
Speaker 3 (25:11):
Random numbers?
Speaker 2 (25:12):
Yeah, And the first that said, hey, let's go skydiving?
Speaker 3 (25:15):
No way?
Speaker 2 (25:16):
Yeah, So I played along. Yeah, So I go, all right,
let's go.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
And I don't even know who they thought that I was,
but I guess whoever they thought they were texting did
not show up for the skydive.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
All right, you're like my dad then, like he'll keep
a telemarketer on the line sometimes just.
Speaker 1 (25:29):
Just to mess with them, just to waste their time. Like, Hey,
let's see who's got the most time to waste. That's right,
I'll wait it out here. Uh twenty two eighty seven.
Let's go back to the phones. Let's go to Kentucky
gas man.
Speaker 6 (25:41):
Hey, hey, shan a billy, Hey, what's up? How's it going?
Speaker 2 (25:47):
All right? Man?
Speaker 6 (25:48):
Hey, listen, I just you know something I've been thinking
about is all you hear is need to shoot the
ball bit or shoot the ball bit or shoot the
ball bitter and man jat evens. They've been talking about
it the Free Game Show last night. It's like he
was talking about, you know, how we had to shoot
the ball better. And you know, Jack Gibbons a smart guy,
and I like Jack, but Jack knows also there's a
(26:10):
lot more to the game of basketball than just shooting
the three ball. I mean, whatever happened just playing basketball?
And you know that set a pick for a back gore,
you know, and get a layer. So and I know
that part of Mark Pope system is free ball. I
understand that. But so here's what here's my take on it.
(26:30):
And this is the positive positivity part of it. So
when Jade and Quainton's comes by back, he at the
very least all he needs to be is a good
post player because it's going to open the afiense up
so much. He's going to create driving lanes that could
create like more open shots and you know when there's
(26:53):
when when the ball goes down to the post, you
know he could score. And I just think it's going
to make a big difference when Jade Quainton's come back.
So that's my positivity. I really feel like this thing's
gonna come together when he comes by it.
Speaker 2 (27:05):
Yep, thanks for the call, Katucky Guess.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Thank you, And as I said, you know, I'll try
to reserve judgment until Pope has all the pieces that
he thought he was going to have when he started
the season. You know, he's been sort of handcuffed and
playing with one arm behind his back. It feels like
all season along with these these injuries they keep popping up.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
But that's that's just part of the game.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
Though.
Speaker 2 (27:22):
You have to have that depth, and that goes back
to building the roster.
Speaker 1 (27:25):
You gotta have guys that are capable of coming off
the bench because every team has injuries.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
It happens every season. You have to be prepared for
stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
Jack talks a lot about shot selection before and during
the game, and Shannon, when you pass up and open three,
it is detrimental to the team and the offense. The
offense is meant for those open shots, and you need
to let it fly. I mean, maybe it needs to
be a little bit more cal on the sideline screaming
and shoot the ball, because they need to shoot the
ball more at times, especially if you are wanting thirty
(27:56):
to thirty five threes and you know that can lead
you know, long threes lead to long rebounds, right, more
chances for you to get offensive rebounds, which is completely
changed games. So that is the formula, whether you like
it or not, that is Mark Pope basketball. So they
do need to shoot more. And when they have an
open three, it is worse not shooting that ball than
(28:17):
it is shooting and then having an airball.
Speaker 7 (28:19):
At times.
Speaker 1 (28:19):
Yeah, we've already seen a few times where Trent Noah
wide open for whatever reason, didn't take the shot.
Speaker 3 (28:25):
That has to change.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Trent Noah is a guy that you want shooting it
every time he gets an open look, right, I mean
if there's a guy that's going to be a sharp
shooter on your team, it's Trent Noah, He's going to
be the guy. So I don't understand why he wouldn't
take some of these shots that he's passed up on
in the last couple of games.
Speaker 4 (28:44):
For a team that plays better in transition, too, you
should want to get up and down the court and
shoot when you're open, not getting the half court, get
bogged down, and then realize your point guard is either
injured or not the one that you started with.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
John's up next s John?
Speaker 8 (28:57):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (28:59):
Good?
Speaker 8 (29:00):
Good? Yeah. My first question Shane's Braden hall Fard being
red shirted? How many games did the team play before
you can take someone off of the off of red
shirt year? You know, none?
Speaker 3 (29:15):
He can't play any He can't play a minute now.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
If he wants a medical red shirt, he can play
thirty percent of the team's games. But if he just
wants to burn a red shirt as soon as he
steps on the court, I believe he's lost it.
Speaker 8 (29:27):
Okay, okay, got you and Jasper of course played good,
like by twenty two points. He's pretty fast, needs to
shoot him, be better on the streets, and then of course,
Pope getting on Garrison was a good thing. Yeah, I
still think the jury is out on Garrison and Cam
Williams and a little bit on low Lowe is a
(29:50):
good you know, good pass. He's fast, it's quick. I'm
not sure about he's shooting.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Yeah, Well, the jury's out on this entire teams. Yeah,
thanks for the colle John, appreciate. I I think the
jury is still out on this entire team, and we
have yet to really find out anything about this team.
Midway through December. We know they can beat bad teams
and they lose to good teams.
Speaker 4 (30:10):
I would say the jury's already come to a decision
about Brandon Garrison. It'd be about the other players that
I think they were probably still not made up their
mind about.
Speaker 3 (30:18):
Man Williams is a big one though.
Speaker 4 (30:20):
Yeah, Like he came in as the guy that was
supposed to be that stretch for right, I mean, and
then Yellovich, I mean, how much is he going to progress?
Are you gonna be able to rely on him to
play big minutes later in the year when you have
a Jaden Quainton's taking up minutes at the five, So
are you.
Speaker 3 (30:33):
Gonna put him at the four.
Speaker 4 (30:34):
It's there are still questions to be had, but these
need to be worked out now before conference play starts.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
Yep, well, I mean you would have hoped they would
have already been figured out by the time we got
to the regular season. That's why we played those exhibition games, Billy,
That's why we play perdue.
Speaker 3 (30:48):
Yeah. I'm just gonna keep doing that.
Speaker 1 (30:51):
Hey, did you see that This is a crazy story
in the news, has nothing to do with sports, but
I wanted to see if you saw this story. There's
a story in the news about a missing person person
who had been missing since nineteen eighty three.
Speaker 2 (31:02):
She was three years old at the time. Happened in Kentucky, Okay.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
And after forty years this at the time kid now
forty two years old, just got reunited with her dad
in lais LMPD helped make this thing happen. But back
in nineteen eighty three, the mom and the kid just disappeared.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
Nobody knew where they were.
Speaker 1 (31:26):
They'd been missing, like I said, for forty years, and
turns out they were living in Florida with a different name.
And I guess somehow someone in Florida who knew them
knew about this case.
Speaker 2 (31:38):
Tipped off.
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Police come to find out this mom and this now
grown woman were missing. So I've just imagine this, put
yourself into this situation. You're in your forties, you've lived
your entire life thinking that your name is what you
go by. Turns out that's not your name, and little
did you know, you've been a missing person your entire life.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Like, imagine Billy r sports.
Speaker 1 (32:03):
As a missing person that doesn't even know it's a
it's a wild story in the news, that happened right
here in Kentucky.
Speaker 3 (32:10):
Yeah, your last name isn't Rutledge, it's.
Speaker 2 (32:12):
Barber, Barber. Why did you pick Barber?
Speaker 3 (32:14):
I don't know. That was the first thing came to that.
And then your mom.
Speaker 4 (32:17):
Think you stole you and took you down to Florida
to live a new life. What a bizarre story. And
you said, that's uh, that happened here in connect Yeah.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Yeah, I mean I can't imagine living your entire life
and then going on I didn't know anybody who was
looking for me, Like, like, you're you're you're an unsolved mystery.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
You don't even know it. I mean, that's gotta be you.
Speaker 3 (32:38):
Were just watching that on Netflix. You didn't know your
whole life.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
Yeah, it's like this.
Speaker 1 (32:42):
And she said that, you know, she's uh just going
to try to unite with her family and live a
normal life.
Speaker 2 (32:48):
But I don't know, man, I think I would have
a bigger reaction to that.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
You know, you find out a lot of times when
people do like these, uh like ancestry dot Com things
that they have, like family members that they didn't know about,
or maybe their parents aren't who what they thought they were.
Speaker 2 (33:00):
But this is a whole different level.
Speaker 1 (33:02):
I mean, you've been living your entire life under a
name that's not even you, and you get little did
you know your family?
Speaker 2 (33:10):
Your dad who's been looking for you for forty years?
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Yeah, no, that's bizarre.
Speaker 4 (33:16):
I mean I would have a lot of questions for
the mom, right, I mean, why would you do this
to me?
Speaker 1 (33:20):
And you thought you got away with it? Probably too, Yeah,
Mom's got some explainer to do. Mom's in jail now.
Speaker 3 (33:25):
So those ancestry things can ruin relationships too.
Speaker 2 (33:30):
Have you ever done that? I was looking at mine
last night.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
I have, and then I have a family member who
took it and then had her family members take it
and then realize that they weren't family members.
Speaker 2 (33:40):
You are not the father, not the mom.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
Those that realm so's it can ruin relationships.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Apparently, I am very English. That's like where all my
stuff comes from.
Speaker 4 (33:51):
Oh yeah, let me voluntarily give my DNA to these
corporations as well to whatever go wrong with that.
Speaker 1 (33:57):
We did that when we did what was the wild
was it the Wild health genomes?
Speaker 2 (34:03):
Remember the baseball team?
Speaker 3 (34:04):
Remember?
Speaker 1 (34:05):
And they sent like a kit where you could send
off your DNA and they would analyze it and give
you all of your ancestry information.
Speaker 2 (34:11):
You know what, I'm like, just take it. I don't care.
You know what?
Speaker 3 (34:14):
It was all a big infomercial, wasn't it. That was
like the basically sponsored name.
Speaker 2 (34:19):
Yeah, they didn't last one. Are yep?
Speaker 1 (34:22):
Eight two eighty seven? Back to the phones in just
a minute and we'll take your calls. Coming up next
on the final segment of the KSR pre Show. Final
segment of the KSR pre Show, So Billy, The Indianapolis
Colts have a dilemma. Starting quarterback injured, out backup, quarterback out,
(34:43):
third string quarterback out.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
So what do they do?
Speaker 1 (34:47):
They call up Philip Rivers, who hasn't played an NFL game.
Speaker 2 (34:51):
In five years.
Speaker 1 (34:53):
He is forty four years old and will be starting
for the Indianapolis Colts and their their next game. Who
do they play? Do we know who the Colts play?
I guess it really doesn't matter. The lead of it
is though. The guy is forty four years old, hasn't
played a game in five years. Is there any way
that you think this works for Philip Rivers and the Colts?
Speaker 2 (35:13):
They play the Seahawks on Sunday?
Speaker 3 (35:16):
No?
Speaker 4 (35:17):
No, Philip Rivers is a Hall of Famer, but he
hadn't played in a while. He's going to play a
very good defense on the road with little prep. He's
forty four. I mean, people just don't do it past forty.
I mean Drew Brees and Tom Brady are the only exceptions.
I think Brees made it to forty. But like this
just doesn't happen after a certain age. So I cannot
(35:37):
count out father time here. But Philip Rivers has ten
kids and one of the feed Yeah, he's got ten kids,
and one of them is as old as the backup
that he's replacing, Ridley Leonard.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
Does he play quarterback? Why didn't they just call the
younger Philip Rivers?
Speaker 8 (35:53):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (35:53):
You got any eligibility left. Hey, maybe you got a
little talent in you. So I don't know, but this
does reset his hall of too. So if you if
he thought he was going to be inducted pretty soon,
like he'll have to restart this since he is signing
with the team.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
I mean, really, is.
Speaker 1 (36:07):
There nobody else they had to go to a forty
four year old man?
Speaker 4 (36:10):
Well, he used to play for the Colts a few
years ago. Maybe they think that he knows the system.
Speaker 2 (36:15):
It would be easy to bring him in, right.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
Maybe, But I think it's a different coach since then.
So I don't even I don't even know.
Speaker 3 (36:22):
I mean, what's I was hoping he's got a little
magic in a bottle.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
I guess it's a bold strategy. We'll see if it
works out for him.
Speaker 1 (36:27):
But I wanted to look up, you know, Billy, like,
who are the oldest players to ever play major sports?
So I want to go through a few of them
here with you. Okay, do you know the oldest NBA
player ever was?
Speaker 3 (36:39):
Geez?
Speaker 2 (36:40):
You probably won't because I've never heard of this name.
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (36:42):
I got by the name of Nat Hickey, who played
back in nineteen forty eight. He played until he was
forty five years old and three hundred and sixty three days,
so almost forty six.
Speaker 3 (36:53):
Okay, forty six is pretty old for basketball.
Speaker 1 (36:55):
Other guys on the name on the list, you might
know Kevin Willis, Robert Paris, you know Robert Perry. Vince
Carter played until he was forty three. Yep, so there's
the NBA's oldest player. Do you know who the oldest
player in You won't know this one either.
Speaker 2 (37:10):
Hockey.
Speaker 1 (37:12):
Gordy Howell played until he was fifty two years old
back in the nineteen eighties, fifty two.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
Fifty two in hockey on skates.
Speaker 1 (37:22):
Like, do you even pick on the old man that
you can't beat up the old man right now?
Speaker 4 (37:26):
First minute of the game, I'm going and knocking his
ass on the.
Speaker 1 (37:31):
You don't know, though, maybe he's got old man's strength,
you know, like there would there be anything more embarrassing
as a young hockey player to be the guy who
got beat up by the fifty two year old man
out there. I think you don't pick a fight with
him for that very reason.
Speaker 4 (37:45):
No, he's fair game if he's out there in a uniform.
I'm targeting the old man at.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
That, But what I'm saying, is what if the old
man beat you up? Now you're the joke. I think
they had to kick you out of the NHL. Beat
up by a fifty two year old man.
Speaker 3 (37:56):
Now there's probably some truth in that. Yeah, you gotta
be careful.
Speaker 1 (37:58):
The oldest NFL player of all time, you might know
this when George Blanda, Yeah, played until he was forty eight,
retiring in nineteen seventy six after twenty six years. And
that was when, like, there were no protecting the quarterback
roles either. You know, back in the seventies, it was
it was hard nosed football.
Speaker 2 (38:17):
Imagine you're forty eight taking shots out there from lineman.
Speaker 3 (38:21):
I can't.
Speaker 4 (38:21):
And I think he was playing kicker back in the
day too, So I mean he was both sides of
the ball and forty eight though.
Speaker 3 (38:28):
That's yep?
Speaker 2 (38:29):
Is that?
Speaker 3 (38:29):
I guess that's the oldest.
Speaker 1 (38:30):
Well, no, here's one in the NFL. Yes, but the
oldest that I can find. Yes, major League Baseball, Satchel
Page pitched until he was fifty nine years old in
nighteen sixty five.
Speaker 2 (38:43):
What fifty nine, Billy.
Speaker 3 (38:46):
That's it. That's impressive. I got to give it up.
Speaker 2 (38:49):
I mean the guys like, you know, filing for Social Security.
Speaker 1 (38:52):
He's fifty nine years old out there throwing fastballs.
Speaker 4 (38:56):
Now, how are his stats in his fifties. I don't
know that he's just throwing the pitch out there, because
that's a little different than if he was actually going
out there giving up two runs a game.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
I'd have to look at like his pitch speed at
fifty nine years old speed?
Speaker 2 (39:09):
Yeah, like how fast was he throwing it? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (39:12):
That's incredible.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
Though he started in nineteen twenty seven, his last season
was nineteen sixty.
Speaker 2 (39:18):
Five nineteen twenty seven.
Speaker 3 (39:21):
Nineteen twenty seven was his first year.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
He was insane. Let's see.
Speaker 1 (39:27):
At fifty nine, Satul paid Page made major League baseball
history September twenty fifth, nineteen sixty five, pitching three scoreless
innings for the Kansas City Athletics against the Boston Red Sox.
There you go, but doesn't say how fast. I don't
know if that they were, you know, clocking pitch speed
back then.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
He started one game his final year in nineteen sixty five.
He pitched three innings. He gave up one hit, he
had one strikeout, did not give up a run.
Speaker 1 (39:53):
He says he used his famous hesitation pitch and slow
speed pitches like the ephis to baffle hitters in this
final performance. So yeah, he was probably throwing lobballs out there.
But hey, but if nobody hit you, nobody hits you.
It doesn't matter how fast you throw the ball.
Speaker 4 (40:06):
So he played from twenty seven to fifty three and
then took a twelve year break before coming back for
one year in nineteen sixty five to play one game.
Speaker 2 (40:14):
That is insane. Randall's up next, Hey Randall.
Speaker 7 (40:18):
See, yeah, I was excited to see Mark Pope get
get in, you know, on the court, come over there
on the court and get on BG because you know,
Mark Pope, he's a national champion at Kentucky and I mean,
you know, and I him showing that aggressiveness. I don't
think that's fake at all. He's getting paid to, you know,
get on these guys. These guys are getting paid to,
(40:41):
you know, perform, and if they're not performing, I mean,
you know, throw all the Kentucky kids in, Jasper Johnson
over with twenty points. Let's I hope that they go up.
Indiana comes to town and and you know, they you know,
with the back of chewing you know Candy Kane. Yeah, yeah,
(41:06):
all right, right with the points. Yeah, it's uh to
the call.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
Randall were appreciating sounds like Ryan kep on going. You'll
get a little bit of that from Ryan.
Speaker 1 (41:16):
We have seen a range of emotion from Mark Pope,
you know, from everything it's happy and beautiful and sunshine
and rainbows to Mark Pope being depressed and now angry
Mark Pope. I like angry Mark Pope for the light
of heart on that's right, hey, sign up with Promo
