Speaker 1 (00:01):
Welcome everyone. It is the KSR pre Show, Friday, December twelfth.
I am Shannon the Dude and Louis Will being joined
by Billy Relich over in Lexington. Give us a call
on the Clarks Pupping Shop phone line at eight five
nine two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. You can
also send us a text at five oh two two
six five six six five six pure whiskey Thief Call
(00:21):
of the day and the KSR pre Show is brought
to you by Italics, Fine Italian donning in Lexington on
a snowy Friday. Billy, we were supposed to be in
Summerset this morning, but the weather had other ideas. And
here we are. I'm in the studio in Louisville. You're
at home in Lexington. What's to looking like over there
in Lexington? How much snow did you guys get?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah, just like a couple of inches, maybe like two
or three here. I think Louisville probably got a little
bit more than us. But yeah, a little disappointed that
I don't don't get to see you in person and
our good friends over there in Somerset. But I'm at
my house. I have house slippers on. Shannon so I'm
ready to go house slipper.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
You're like an old man.
Speaker 2 (00:58):
Oh yeah, big into the head slipper game, are you not?
Speaker 1 (01:01):
I have them, but I don't really wear them.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
It's like one of those things like I'm sure you've
got stuff in your closet, like you got it, but
you don't wear it. I've become a big robe wear though.
I'm like Rick Flair in the morning walking out with
my coffee. Am I blinged out?
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Robe? Oh? I can absolutely see that you in a
robe and maybe even caring around the radio. Heavyweight belt
off on your shoulder.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
That's right, coffee in one hand, World Heavyweight radio title
on the other shoulder.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Have I got forty five minutes till Jerry Eve's show starts?
Speaker 1 (01:31):
We got about I think it probably a solid four here.
We got quite a bit of snow, So if you're
if you have to go out there, be careful. I
will tell you, like the route that I took, like
Bargetown Road is still a little bit icy, so be
careful if you're out there. Geene Snyder in sixty five
pretty good. I mean traffic was slow a little bit
on the on the Snyder, but other other than that.
Roads looking pretty good out there right now. So there's
(01:53):
your there's your traffic report, and uh, you know, let's
let's talk a little little sports here. But before we
do that, I but one other thing on this whole
snow thing. You gotta you gotta tell me about, Billy.
Why does everybody go out when it snows and get
bread and milk?
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Like?
Speaker 1 (02:07):
What is the bread and milk phenomenon?
Speaker 2 (02:09):
What is that?
Speaker 1 (02:09):
You're like, that's you got it? Like if you're a
bread company or like, uh, you know a milk company,
Dean's Milk or whatever it is, you gotta be loving
when it snows because everybody goes out and gets bread
and milk. And I don't understand it. I'm like, you
can have your bread and milk, give me some beer
and some chili, and I'm good to go when it snows.
Speaker 2 (02:25):
Yeah, is French toasts the meal when the power goes out? Shannon,
I feel like that's what everybody gets. It was the
most genius marketing move. Whoever convinced us that we needed
bread and milk when weather comes like this. You know,
toilet paper goes off the shelf pretty quickly. If you
remember the COVID times couldn't find it. I had to
use sandpaper a couple of times.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
There was nothing else to use. You cannot find toilet
paper during COVID.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, well I could get you onto the bidet live, Shannon,
But I don't know.
Speaker 1 (02:52):
Oh yeah, I know, right? Is that still working out
well for you? Do you like?
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
You like the bidet?
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, I've shifted away from the bidet. We've kind of gone.
Oh toilet paper, I just never put it on the
hot water Shannon.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
So you just don't like it.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Cold water wakes you up. You don't think you're awake,
then you're awake. After something like.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
That, I could imagine you feel like you're sitting on
top of a geyser, like Old Faithful when you said
on the thing, this blast water up.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
You know, twenty degrees outside and then it's just not
a good combo. But you what do you got there?
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Here's what I did find at the grocery store. You know,
I'm not a coke drinker, but you and I, over
the years on KSR pre Show have sort of made
it our gimmick that we try new things when it comes.
Speaker 2 (03:31):
Out you need to do something new.
Speaker 1 (03:32):
Yeah, remember, like when we had the was the Flaming
Hot Cheetos Mountain Dew that we tried on the air.
We gave our review for that.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
It was like a weird taste in your throat, like
it just kind of sat there, and.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Then there was like the starry night. Was that coke
or PEPSI I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
Yeah, I think it was coke, which was good. Yeah,
Twilight coke I think it was called.
Speaker 1 (03:50):
Yeah, exactly. So, even though I'm not a coke drinker,
every now and then I will drink a coke and
they've got something called Holiday creamy vanilla coke and it
is awesome. Like I'm a fan of vanilla coke already,
so if you can imagine vanilla coke, but we're gonna
like amp up the vanilla in the coke a little bit.
That's kind of what it tastes like. And it's hard
(04:11):
to find. I found one at Kroger a couple of
weeks ago, went back like two days later, gone couldn't
find them. So then yesterday I went or a couple
of days ago, I went into a gas station and
loaded up on these things. They are really good if
you like vanilla coke.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
So I do like vanilla coke. I think I've had
one in the last decade, and it was like two
or three weeks ago. It was it was nostalgic. It
was a trip down memory lane, so I could absolutely
get behind that. You're just telling me it's a little
bit more creamier. Yep, vanilla coke.
Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yep, It's like somebody dumped in an extra shot of
vanilla in it.
Speaker 2 (04:41):
Okay, well, we know you like your Gurly drinks. Hey,
you can spot Girley.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 2 (04:46):
So you your extra cream vanilla coke? I guess we'll
add that to the lid.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
I like things that have flavor. Yeah, it doesn't make
it gury. Okay, all right, you're not buying it. Hey,
Kentucky Volleyball, how about Kentucky Volleyball Polly to move on
to the Elite eight? Eat it weird?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Now?
Speaker 1 (05:07):
He thought we found out that weird al was cal
Poly alumni. Remember yesterday we were looking John Madden also
went to cal Poly. But anyway, Kentucky Volleyball beats cal
Poly straight sets, they move on. They'll take on the
third seed Creighton in the Elite eight. Lizzie Carr, you'd
probably know Andrew Carr's sister had eleven kills. He was
(05:29):
kind of the star yesterday and once again Kentucky Volleyball
just continuing this momentum, rolling on to the Elite eight.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, a dominant third set in this last match in
which they won twenty five to seven. You like to
see them close strong, and they've lost one set in
their last three NCAA tournament games. One set is how
dominant this UK volleyball team is. And now we'll take
on a good Creton team on Saturday after ginning their
twenty fifth straight win. That's a program record too, Shannon,
(05:57):
So are we gonna hear from coach Craig Skinner before
the game, Like, are we gonna get him in his
next gimmick in a hot air balloon or we'll probably
have to wait until the Final four for him to
do something again?
Speaker 3 (06:07):
Right?
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (06:07):
Well, I mean he just flew in the jet. I
don't know how you topp flying in a jet.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
Oh unless we put him in a rocket, him to space.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Craig Skinner in space.
Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yes, I mean Blue Origin. Katy Perry's already you know,
touched the stars. Why not put Craig Skinner up there?
But they got business business to take care of. I'm
sure they won't do that before they play on Saturday,
but you know, best of luck and one more chance
at Historic Memorial Coliseum. I believe the final four games
are at a different site. So this is the region
(06:41):
final and this this team deserves a crowd. And I
heard because I didn't get to go that it was
a pretty good crowd on a Wednesday or a Thursday
at three thirty pm.
Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah. Yeah, shout out to the fans who were able
to get out there and pack the Historical Memorial Coliseum
for the game. You know, Lobell's still in this thing too.
Could we possibly have a Kentucky versus Louisville final for
the national championship in volleyball?
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Yeah, I kind of need it. I mean crazy with
them in basketball and football, that would be a good medicine, Shannon.
But if they were to lose.
Speaker 1 (07:12):
Oh yeah, well at least at least the women's basketball
team beat them, right, so we have that.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
That's true. Yeah, they looked good doing it too. Kenny
Brooks is always put an emphasis on that game, so
we love to see them having success there.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
But kind I want that to happen now kind of
Kentucky and Lowell in the fast Yeah. Yeah, I think
Lovel's on that same side though with Pittsburgh Nebraska, So
probably not a good chance of that actually happening. It
would be cool if it did, though. Kentucky men's basketball
they need a win tomorrow night seven thirty tip off
against Indiana at ropp Arena. You know, I was one
(07:45):
of those people that were fans of this series growing up,
watching it as a kid in the nineties. I know
people in our fan base have, you know, sort of
over the years said we don't really need Indiana, we
don't really have you know, we don't only gain anything
from playing Indiana. But I like at this rivalry's back
and in Indiana, although they're not in the top twenty five,
they are a good team. If you get this win,
(08:06):
it would be your first marquee win of the year.
What do you think happens tomorrow, Billy, Does Kentucky finally
get a win over a team not ranked three hundredth
nationally or worse?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
Yeah? No, no, no, no, I don't have it. I
don't have the Billy confidence for this Kentucky basketball team yet.
I mean I was coming into this game optimistic until
I saw Indiana play their last game. I know it
was Penn State, but I mean they had one hundred
points with five minutes left in the game. Lamar Wilkerson's
breaking program records for the amount of threes that he's hit.
(08:39):
Kentucky just still trying to find themselves, man. I mean,
this is what non conference play is for, is finding
your identity. And you know I've said a few weeks
ago after the Gonzaga game, or a day a couple
of days ago, you know, what is this team elite?
What is it that you can point to and say,
this is what they're good at, this is what they
go to when times get tough. I haven't that yet.
(09:00):
So this team has to be has to win one
of these close games versus a good opponent before I
get on the bandwagon, Shannon. And you know, I love
that the rivalries back. You know, it was it was
quite a long a few years that they played in
a row and I heard Tom talking about it this morning.
You know, Indiana has been mainly irrelevant in my lifetime.
I'm thirty years old, so I really didn't get the uh,
(09:23):
you know, the big games, the big rivalry really out.
The only memories is the watch shot and Cal refusing
to go back to Assembly Hall for all those years.
Speaker 1 (09:32):
That's the last regular season game, right is that?
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Well?
Speaker 2 (09:35):
You know, they you know, beat him a revenge game
in the tournament.
Speaker 1 (09:38):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
And Tom Creane's been such a good guest host here
on the pre show, so I've I've loved having him.
But this is a program that is a you know,
kind of like a warning to some of how irrelevant
you could become, right.
Speaker 1 (09:51):
Right, And I've you know, heard some people say in
our in our fan base say, you know, we're sort
of becoming Indiana. And I'm not willing to say that
out there yet. I'm not willing to say that yet,
but we're we are like in the conversation, you don't
want to be that program that relies on, you know,
all your success in the past, but then you haven't
done anything recently. It kind of feels like that's what
Kentucky basketball has become over the last few years. But
(10:14):
I'm not willing to call them Indiana yet.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Yeah, specifically maybe the last five or six it has
not been a good run. And then when you hear
coaches still recruiting with the basis of this is Kentucky.
I you know, that just seems to fall flat nowadays
when you can get paid a lot of money and
a lot of these recruits are looking for playing time
with an other motivation. So it's just times have changed
(10:38):
in Kentucky. Not only the basketball team and the athletic
department need to adapt with this, you know, ever changing landscape.
And we'll see if they can take a big step
in the right direction on set.
Speaker 1 (10:47):
Last time they played was oh in twenty sixteen, Indian
and octim out of the tournament. Is that right, Yeah,
that's the last time they played twenty sixteen. The last
regular season game was, as we just mentioned, Assembly Hauled
twenty eleven.
Speaker 2 (11:01):
Well, I'm looking forward to the Ryan Lemon hatred of
Indiana today. Hopefully he gets a little bit ratcheted up.
Being from Indiana, he always does get involved. And then
those candy cane pants they wear sharing it, I mean,
maybe is that the ugliest get up in college basketball
or football? I guess right behind the checker.
Speaker 1 (11:18):
Exactly what I was going to say, Like, the checkerboards
would have probably given it a good run, but the
candy cane stripe pants are ugly. I know it's tradition.
They love their candy canes, but yeah, it's got to
be one of the ugliest. Like I mean, even though
it's their warm up gear, it's still the ugliest I
think probably in college basketball, although Tennessee that Tennessee orange
has got to be right up there with it.
Speaker 2 (11:39):
But yeah, that shade of orange, yeah different, man, It's
just illuminating.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
Mike Davis, do you remember that back in the nineties,
runs out on the floor during the game calling for
a foul. I think he got teed up. I don't
know if he got I can't remember if he got
thrown out of the game or not. But there was
a call that Mike Davis, who was the coach at
Indiana at the time, didn't like ran out on the
floor or had his hand on his face like trying
to show the refl like hey, you know, he found him.
(12:05):
It was a really memorable part of this rivalry if
you grew up watching Indiana Kentucky in the nineties. But
then other than that, I mean, I guess the Watford
shot is probably the most recent memory, because I had
already forgotten that they lost in twenty sixteen.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
I mean, just think somewhere in Indiana people have framed
photos of that moment. Shannon. I mean that is that
was the definition of success for this program for a while.
So you know, obviously it's a measuring stick game for
Indiana but also Kentucky because of how poorly they've played
this year. But it does feel like must win. I
hate having hyperbole, and we've called we've said must win
(12:41):
in the past, but this does feel like a slippery
slope if they were to lose this one.
Speaker 1 (12:46):
They've got a player that played against Kentucky last year
from Troy in the first round at the NCAA tournament.
So that's Tayton Connorway. You might remember that name, played
against Kentucky and then Lamar Wilkerson, as we've already talked about,
he's the guy that I think, I don't know, do
we have an answer for him? You know, if he's
gonna shoot the way he did the other night, then
its lights out for Kentucky. You got to be able
(13:09):
to put a man on him and be able to
hold him to twenty points or less, maybe not forty
four like he went off against Penn State on last game.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
So tell me who we're talking about. Monday, Like, who
is the guy that is? I mean he could either
be Ohway scoring twenty plus points and kind of returning
the form. It could be Trent Noah in the starting
line up hitting three threes. I mean, give me one
guy that can has to play well for Kentucky to
be able to be in a team like Indiana.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
Well, the easy answer is otega Oway, just because we
rely on him to get you know, twelve to sixteen
seventeen points every game. So if he let's start there,
I mean, if he doesn't sure, yeah, double digit or
if he doesn't get double digs, we're in trouble. I
think Aberdeen's got a step up too. I don't know
what we're gonna get from Jalen low as far as minutes.
I think the main thing is, right now, let's just
(13:53):
try to keep him healthy while he's out there. But
you can't play scared at the same time. So it's
it's sort of a situation where it's it's dicey with
Jalen Lowe. You want him to play as much as
he can, but also don't want I'm driving, you know,
and running into somebody and separating his shoulder again.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
I just I don't see Kentucky competing with Indiana if
they don't hit double digit threes, Like if they're not
playing Mark Pope basketball and they get into this half
court slop that they've been in, and I just don't
know if they can keep up. So, like, I think
it's got to be like a Colin Chandler or Trent
Noah cam William somebody that's got to hit multiple threes
(14:29):
to keep Kentucky, keep Kentucky in it. But you know,
Kentucky likes to play in transition. If they can play quick,
get into a more comfortable offense, if Mojiabate brings a
little toughness, there is a lot of positives. But I mean,
you had me guess what the line was yesterday. Do
you think Kentucky's a favorite in this one, Shannon, just
because they're at home?
Speaker 3 (14:47):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (14:47):
Probably, Like I could see them being like a one
or two point favorite, but yeah, that can't be a
ton more than close to it. Pick them really Yeah, And.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Then you know, Kentucky beats up on these bad teams,
so they can have good kem Pom numbers and you
know they still have a lot of optimism, but they've
got to do it against better competition and with a
lot of noise around the program over these last couple
of days. I think this is a This is a biggie,
as John Short might say.
Speaker 1 (15:12):
Eight five, nine, two, eighth, twenty two, eighty seven, will
take your phone calls? Coming up next, it is the
KSR pre Show on a snow day. That's all right,
snow from White Christmas the best Christmas movie of all
time in my opinion. But Entertainment Weekly came out with
what they said as the best Christmas movie of all time.
Any guess, Billy as to what they think the best
(15:34):
Christmas movie is? Yeah?
Speaker 2 (15:35):
Is it a Christmas Story? Little Ralfie?
Speaker 4 (15:38):
No?
Speaker 1 (15:38):
That was number two on the list.
Speaker 2 (15:39):
Oh, okay, it's Christmas.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
No, White Christmas wasn't on there.
Speaker 2 (15:44):
Please tell me it's not Elf.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
Elf was number three?
Speaker 2 (15:47):
Okay, I mean that gets so much attention.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
No, I'm sorry. Number four. Three was Charlie Brown's Christmas.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Give Me the Claymation Rootolph.
Speaker 1 (15:54):
Yeah, No, that wasn't on there either. Five was the
nineteen sixty six cartoon of How They're Great Still Christmas? Okay,
I got it, You're still missing the number one, die hard. No,
most people say, Diehard is not even a Christmas but
it is. That's a whole other debateby.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
He is a very festive in that movie. Many references
to Christmas.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
Come on, man, they think old school, old school Christmas movies.
You maybe have never seen it. Maybe that's why you're
not getting it.
Speaker 3 (16:19):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (16:19):
What is it? I don't have it.
Speaker 1 (16:20):
It's a wonderful life they said it was number one.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
Don't have many memories of It's a wonderful.
Speaker 1 (16:26):
You should watch it though. I watched it last Christmas
for the first time, and it actually is a really
good movie, you know, even though it came out in
nineteen forty six. One person says snowdays don't hit the
same as an adult when you've got to get up
and go to work and drive through it. I'm with
you on that, Like I used to love snow days
when I was a kid, but now it's like you
gotta get up and drive, and I still will go.
I'll go slutting though, if it's like enough snow are
(16:48):
Oh yes, Oh yeah, I might.
Speaker 2 (16:50):
I might.
Speaker 1 (16:51):
Like there's some good spots in Louisville, Joe Crees and Park,
Cherokee Park. Oh yet where are the like the other,
like sledding areas in Lexington that people go to.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Oh, I'm the wrong person to ask. Unfortunately I don't
get out and sled anymore, Shannon, I do, you know,
have a job and responsibilities. I got to do too.
But you know what age You know, sledding shouldn't have
an age limit exactly.
Speaker 1 (17:12):
Yeah, Well you're too good for that.
Speaker 2 (17:13):
That's fun. My parents had a hill in their backyard
and that was a ton of fun. But if there's
a good hell, everybody knows about it, right and so
on snow days, it's almost like a congregation point for
a lot of people. So, especially in college.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
The line is not out yet for Kentucky and Indiana tomorrow.
I guess that will either come out late tonight or
I guess it would be what probably later today? Yeah,
I will say later today, probably not tomorrow morning. Right,
it would have to come out I think at least
twenty four hours before the game. But you can bet
it when it comes out on DraftKings sportsbook promo code KSR.

(18:08):
me resources see DKNG dot co slash audio Limited time offer.
You were telling me that you were watching a game
last night. Oh, okay, yes, and they said tie goes
to the offense. Because Matt was saying yesterday, tye goes
to the runner, and I tried to tell him like that,
that's a baseball myth. People have said tie goes to
the runner. Not true. We had umpires right in and
(18:29):
go no, that's not true. Usually the tie goes to
the defense because we're trying to get the game over
and get the hell out of there.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
Oh, I thought the callers or texters were disputing what
you were saying and that the tie did go to
the runner.
Speaker 1 (18:40):
No, no, the tie.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
They were agreeing with what you go, Yes.
Speaker 1 (18:43):
The tie goes to the defense. Umpires that rode In
said the tie goes to the defense because they're trying
to get the game over with.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Well, yeah, I know how bad you are googling, so
maybe you did get that one right. Not the cow
one though. Yesterday. This is something I was watching yesterday.
It was the Bucks Falcons game. The Bucks are pitiful,
They're an embarrassment. They've a fourteen point lead against the Falcons,
who had nineteen penalties in the game, nine creen and
they still won the game. Season's over. But at one
(19:10):
point the Bucks strip sacked Kirk Cousins and they went
for the recovery. The ref said it was it was
a simultaneous recovery and that the tie goes to the offense.
And I was like Leonardo DiCaprio and that meme, pointing
at the TV because we had just talked about it today.
I had never seen that all these years of watching football,
a simultaneous recovery goes to the offense. Just one of
(19:33):
the many things that happened for the Bucks to blow
that game. But I guess this happens more often than
we know.
Speaker 1 (19:39):
I guess maybe in football, tie does go to the offense,
but in baseball it does not.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
It doesn't, but tie goes to the offense in football.
So I mean, I guess you'd got to know the
differences in the sports if you're gonna make a rule
on the rule change.
Speaker 1 (19:50):
Speaking of football, the twenty twenty six schedule for Kentucky
came out yesterday, and I don't know, did you to
get a chance to look over the schedule?
Speaker 3 (20:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
All right, So like I'll give you a couple of
takeaways for me. Number One, you got basically from week
three throughout the rest of the schedule, you got alternating
home and away games. So you know the way I
see that as Hey, if you've got a team that's
struggling to win on the road, or maybe like last
year's team, struggling to win at home, you probably aren't
going to go on too big of a losing streak
(20:21):
if you just can't play well at home with the
with the alternating schedule, the home way it's set up.
And then second, I hope that Youngstown State game is
a really good tune up because you got Alabama you're
looking at on week two. I mean, that's baptism by
fire going into the play at Alabama, where I guess
you get to play it at home at least, but
you're still playing one of the best teams in college
football in.
Speaker 2 (20:41):
Week two well short of the SEC.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Will Stein, Yeah, exactly, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (20:45):
I didn't even realize it was alternating home in a
way like that. So interesting observation there. You know at
Texas A and M, we'll be a fun trip. First
trip to Oklahoma since nineteen eighty is another good one.
They shift to nine conference games and they drop one
of the bye weeks. There's only one bye week this year.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
I'm good with that. I hate at the double buy.
Why well, because it gives us less to talk about
and less.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
Well, yeah, for content purposes.
Speaker 1 (21:12):
That and I just don't like the double bye like
I want, you know, let's keep it rolling. I don't
like when.
Speaker 2 (21:17):
Yeah, well, you know it's so bad out of buys
that you know was probably working against us, but it
is a necessary rest for those guys. And then you know,
Kentucky doesn't play Georgia on this schedule. You know, they
drop Georgia, but you'll play John summer All at Florida. Obviously,
there's a lane Kiffin and Lshu is going to be
coming to Lexington. So tough, tough schedule for the first
(21:37):
year under will Stein Shannon. But I'm gonna wait until
we see how this roster kind of turns out before
we start giving win predictions or anything like that.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Oh yeah, yeah, you know, you do get Florida back
to back years at Kroger Field at home, so you
got that. Lobill of course is going to be a
home game as well. But yeah, at Oklahoma at South Carolina,
that's one of those games that is going to be tough,
but one of those games that you also feel like
you need to start winning. South Carolina has sort of
owned the rivalry in football over the last few years.
That's a team that they used to beat on a
(22:05):
consistent basis. They got to get back to winning that
game on the schedule.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yeah, it feels like South at South Carolina and Florida
at home are two necessary games for this team if
they want to get to the five or maybe even
six win Mark.
Speaker 1 (22:16):
Eight, five, nine, two, eight oh twenty two eighty seven.
We will take your phone calls. Coming up next on
the other side, and it is the KSR pre Show.
We'll be right back. Welcome back, It is the KSR
pre show, Shinning the Dude, Billy Relich eight five nine
two eight oh twenty two eighty seven. We're going to
go to the phones in just a minute. But you know, Billy,
(22:38):
you got the college football playoffs coming up. Did you
see this defensive lineman for Indiana, Stephen Daily, who is
now out for the rest of the year after he
suffered a freak accident celebrating after Indiana beat Ohio State
to win the Big Ten championship. Their starting defensive lineman
is now out for the year. He was walking around
(23:00):
giving fans a high five.
Speaker 2 (23:02):
Oh I saw this, and uh.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Had some sort of injury with his leg and now
he's likely out for the entire season celebrating. Imagine you're
the starting defensive lineman for Indiana who has sucked forever.
They're undefeated, you'll win the Big Ten title, You're going
in for the chance to win the national championship, and
now you can't play because you injured yourself celebrating with fans.
(23:26):
Is there any worse way to go out than that, Billy?
Speaker 2 (23:28):
No, that's like Sunday Scaries, nightmare type of stuff to
end your career. You're gonna have to sit on the
sideline while these guys fight for a national championship. If
I saw the right video, he was like whipping a
towel with a fan and they kind of I don't
know if they grabbed the towel or if he jumped
awkwardly and he just kind of like fell and then
was limping a little bit. And so if that's the
right video, that that is that is a tough, tough
(23:51):
look Shannon, Yeah, but that is really tough you work.
I do feel bad for him though. I mean, in
a moment of celebration, all that hard work that you've
put in and you can't anticipate. But that's why you, uh,
don't celebrate. Don't celebrate too hard, get hurt.
Speaker 3 (24:04):
You know.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
That kind of goes back to like popping champagne in
the locker room for like wins.
Speaker 1 (24:09):
Yeah, you win like the conference title and then somebody
gets hit in the eye with a cork.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
Yeah, like you win the wild card round in baseball,
and like it's dumping champagne and it's like it's almost
like a parade, and like, I get you want to
celebrate your achievements, but the job's not finished, right, So
there is there's got to be a balance there a
little bit.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
This guy ranked second in the nation with nineteen tackles
for loss, rank first in the Big TIS. He was good, good,
thirty thirty eight tackles, five and a half sacks in
five hurries to force two fumbles this season so far.
So yeah, he's like, he's like, they're to start a
star defensive lineman and now they're going to have to
go into the playoffs without him because the guy got
got hurt injuring or got hurt celebrating him.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
You know, as much as I am against Indiana basketball,
and this weekend is a big one for Kentucky, I'm
rooting for the little guy.
Speaker 1 (24:55):
I am too, man like. I look, I'm not typically
an Indiana fan, but this is something I never thought
i'd see happen. Indiana not only good at football, the
number one team in college football.
Speaker 2 (25:07):
Yeah, and good last year, but just not ready for
the moment, right And and you know they played that
first round game didn't go well. Now it feels like,
you know, as the number one overall, see, they really
got a good shot with a good quarterback too. So
I'm I'm excited to see how it all plays out
here coming.
Speaker 1 (25:23):
Up a nine to twenty two eighty seven. Donnie's up first,
Hey Donnie, what's up?
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Honey?
Speaker 3 (25:28):
I get a question. Everybody can talk about this Jay
and who are they?
Speaker 1 (25:36):
Who are they? Well, they are a company.
Speaker 2 (25:39):
That owns the multimedia rights right to Kentucky sporting events,
and you know, they make deals with brands that partner
with the University of Kentucky. And they've decided to make
their own in house collective that handles all the NIL
money that Kentucky recruits get.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
Now, yeah, that's what I was about.
Speaker 3 (26:00):
Well, I heard I've read on the internet yesterday. Is
I understood it that they and the coaches were trying
to whiphold the NAL money from the players.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Yeah. I don't know if they're red building the money,
but they are the ones responsible for giving the money
to the players now. So I think a lot of
people have criticized if Kentucky doesn't get a recruit, then
Jami may not be doing enough.
Speaker 3 (26:28):
Well, they said the basketball coaches was doing it too.
I mean, why in the world would a kid nine
if they don't get their money right?
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Right?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Thanks for the call, Donny, We appreciate it. I mean
we we've heard and read. If you read that article
talking about Mark Pope getting emotional when it comes to negotiating,
I think that's further proof that and a lot of
people have suggested this that maybe Kentucky Basketball needs a
GM to do some of the negotiating part for that.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
Yeah, and I don't think Kentucky Basketball has to offer
them more money. That is definitely an appealing thing, but
they have to have clarity, like you cannot be this
laid into a recruiting process and finally give a recruit
a firm number. If a recruit is given these direct
numbers from a different school, I think it's going to
be much more likely to start planning your future and
(27:18):
knowing what you want, much more than Kentucky saying what
can we do for you? What can we get for you?
And then maybe even Mark Pope getting emotional in the process.
So I mean, it's just we gotta narrow down, like
the clarity of what the actual numbers.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
Are, and it all comes down to a bitting war
than at some point Kentucky hits their limit and goes, look,
we're not offering you anymore. We're Kentucky, and they try
to sell that, and that goes back to why we
had the conversation about Ty goes to the runner. That's
how that came up in conversation yesterday because Matt was
saying and sort of what I was saying yesterday in
the pre show, as well, you can't just sell it
as we are Kentucky. You come here because we're Kentucky.
(27:52):
Well no, not necessarily because of this other school that
is very similar, like a duke like at North Carolina,
like at Kansas, that is offering the same amount of money.
Ty doesn't always go to Kentucky. I mean, maybe it
does in that situation. But if Kansas or North Carolina
duke are offering more money than they're going to go
to those other schools.
Speaker 2 (28:11):
Yep, yep. That's just college basketball, college football the landscape today.
You know, Cal had a little bit of that in him,
right with the hole this is Kentucky. We're not going
to have to get into the entire nil it's not
going to be our priority. But you know that seemed
to shift in the later years of Cal and Mitch,
who was little a late to this process. So, I
(28:32):
mean there's a lot of criticism to.
Speaker 1 (28:34):
Go around at Kentucky. It seems to be like the
approach that they take is, look, we're not going to
give you a bunch of money upfront necessarily, but you
come to Kentucky, you're gonna make the money because of
our fan base being what it is and the opportunities
that you get at Kentucky. You're going to make your
money if you sign with Kentucky, but they're not necessarily
willing to give it to you upfront like a lot
(28:54):
of other schools.
Speaker 2 (28:55):
But as I understand it, Kentucky is hamstringing these recruits
because they're having to sign over their rights to sign
with other companies. They can only sign with the companies
and brands that partner with Kentucky Athletics. At other schools,
you can go and get the collective money and the
revenue sharing money from the school. So like it's just
you know, it's just different, and they could.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
Change that too. I mean, it's as simple as just
editing that in a contract and then you're on the
same plane filled with everybody else. But from what we've read,
Kentucky is really the only school that has that clause
in the contract that really limits you as to what
you can do Innil so with nil opportunities. So I
can understand why if I'm a recruit and I'm looking
(29:36):
at school A, B and C, and then here's Kentucky
who's got this clause in there that's going to limit
the opportunities for nil, then yeah, I would go look
at the other two schools.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
So really important recruiting period. Now with all the outside
noise Kentucky doesn't have with twenty twenty six recruit. I mean,
they've been all in on the Stokes guy, but there
have been some rumblings there lately. I mean, this is
going to really ratchet up here, and Kentucky's got to
start in games or I mean, things are gonna get negative.
Speaker 1 (30:02):
Steve is up next. Hey Steve, Hey, good morning.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
You know I've never met either of you. Two guys,
Juste Coke must be some pretty good stuff. Has it hurt?
Hasn't hurt you any?
Speaker 1 (30:18):
What is it?
Speaker 2 (30:19):
The vanilla?
Speaker 4 (30:21):
He was really was giving you a hard time. Something
that you drank. It was a girly drink or something.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
Oh yeah, he's talking about vanilla coke, pumpkin spice. He's
all about that's all right, It's just billy. He's just jealous.
He drinks mimosas I mean, talk about a guy talking
about girly drinks. You're drinking mimosa.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Yeah, nothing a girly drink.
Speaker 3 (30:42):
Man.
Speaker 2 (30:43):
It's a champion exactly.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
If I may say something else about Mitch, I cannot
believe he's determined. It seems he's determined to destroy UK
on his way out the door. Yeah, he am, I
Caliperry Stupe. We'll be lucky that we haven't been out
(31:06):
one hundred billion dollars.
Speaker 1 (31:07):
Well, at least the will Stein Hier I think was
met with just about one hundred percent of approval rate.
I think that's a good hire, and Steve I appreciate it. Thanks,
thanks for the call.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
Thanks Steve.
Speaker 1 (31:18):
I don't think that miss just by any stretch of
the imagine he's trying to do anything that's going to
ruin his legacy here at Kentucky. I think he's trying
to make the best hires that he can. But you know,
he's had some good hires. He's had some duds too
over the years.
Speaker 2 (31:32):
Yeah, but nobody's gonna buy a thousand. People are going
to make mistakes. And even when he did hit a
home run with Mark Stoops and you have to call
it a home run. There were still some things in
the process, whether it be like details and contracts or
you know, maybe things lasting a little too long that
kind of hurt the perspective of it. Mitch as much
as anybody wants to leave the university in a better
(31:53):
place than when he found it. So I mean, and
he has obviously he's done great over those last two decades,
but there is an argument that times have changed. And
when you guys were talking about term limits on KSR
the other day, I mean, term limits are a good
thing because it just brings new blood in a lot
of times and can just bring new ideas. And maybe
Kentucky has reached that point. But I think Mitch is
(32:15):
determined in these last months or years or however much
is left to find success for every sport at Kentucky.
But you know, it's a lot of it is what
have you done for me lately?
Speaker 1 (32:27):
For some people, the fans were ready for a change
or ready for Mark Stoops to you know, be let
go and to move on. But when Mark Stoops was
hired Billy, no one would have ever imagined that he
would have become the longest tenured coach in the SEC
thirteen years later. So the fact that he was able
to last that long at Kentucky tells me that, you know,
(32:48):
that was a great hire. It didn't work out on
the end. You know, all good things come to an end,
but it was it was a great hire and you know,
somebody that had some longevity.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Yeah, and for a program that needed some stability, that
needed some toughness. And I think Mitch is taking the
right risk here hiring a young, up and coming coordinator
instead of a retread former head coach, because you've got
a chance to hit a home run, like if you
were able to get the recruiting right. Kentucky is just
as you know, plentiful as maybe in Indiana or a
Vandy to go on a run and make the college
(33:19):
football playoff. And so that's why you have a revision
in will Stein's contract that he gets an extra year
if they make the playoff, because that's now the goal.
But that did not happen unless Mitch Barnhardt hires Mark
Stoops and the success that comes from that. But you
know Mitch also hired Joker. Yeah, Mitch also hired Billy
g Yep. So I mean like, like we said, not
everybody is perfect, but it's about I guess for a
(33:41):
lot of people, what have you done for me lately?
And we'll see how much longer Mitch has to make
those fans change their mind.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Hey, fib nine two eight h twenty two eighty seven,
we'll take more phone calls. Coming up on the other
side of the break, and a new surveys shows what
people really want for Christmas. Billy, I'll tell you what
that is coming up next here on the KSR apprecio.
What we're listening to right now, Billy is the most
obnoxious Christmas song of all the time. According to a
new survey, All I Want for Christmas is You, But
it's also like one of the most popular successful songs
(34:08):
of all time.
Speaker 2 (34:10):
Yeah are you?
Speaker 1 (34:13):
Are you all in on Mariah.
Speaker 2 (34:15):
This song? You like it? I you know, it does
make me a little jealous that she makes millions each
year on this thing. I mean the spike near November
and December for her is is incredible. But no, I'm
I'm a big fan of this, aren't you.
Speaker 1 (34:29):
No. I think it's I think it is one of
the most obnoxious songs. But I mean, good for her,
right I mean, she doesn't have to do anything in
her career now, just come out and like sing this
song once a year and just live off the royalties
off this song.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
I'll tell you I would pay his money for an
ABG Christmas album.
Speaker 1 (34:47):
Want me to sing?
Speaker 2 (34:48):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (34:50):
All I want for Christmas? Is you that's what you want?
Speaker 4 (34:52):
Well?
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Yeah, I'd also like Cliff to sing one song. I'd
like a I'd like a you know, a Cappelle maybe
song with just you know, just your voice. So yeah,
let's let's make that happen.
Speaker 1 (35:04):
Yeah, that's not going to happen, get on it. Another
thing Christmas related. The most asked for what people say
they really want in a survey for Christmas? Do you
have any guesses what people would really want for Christmas?
But don't want to ask for socks? No? Come on, money, money, money,
in more, in particular digital money people want like Venmo.
(35:27):
But I ask you, though, Billy, is it acceptable to
just venmo somebody and say Merry Christmas?
Speaker 2 (35:33):
There you go? No, it is.
Speaker 1 (35:34):
See I don't like that either, and that happens though
not on Venmo, but just like in cash, like my
family will do that a lot of times, like here
I'm just going to give you cash and then I
go out and get them gift cards. So basically they're
just giving me cash to pay for the gift card
that I got there, and we're basically just trading money
at Christmas. I'm going, what are we doing? Like, you
gave me one hundred dollars cash, I gave you one
hundred dollars gift card. We're just trading money. This is stupid.
(35:57):
So I don't you know, I don't want I mean,
I guess if you want to get me money, you
can give me money, right, But I think that if
you're if I'm getting you a gift card and you're
giving me money, we're just trading money.
Speaker 2 (36:06):
Yeah, that's just giving gifts to give a gift, right.
There's not a lot of maning behind that.
Speaker 1 (36:11):
No thought into it.
Speaker 2 (36:12):
You should, yeah, you should take your time go out
to the mall on December twenty fourth, you know, with
the people you know, find something special that they would enjoy.
I mean, I think that part of it is, you know,
the unwrapping of it, and you know seeing what that
person and their personality gets you. You know, if you're
just exchanging money, I mean you could just do that
on venmo.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Think you said, people say they're expecting to get around
six hundred dollars on average in cash. Whoa, it's like
a lot of money for Christmas, all right, six hundred?
Like what kind of family you live in here? I
give you six hundred dollars in cash.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
I got a wedding coming up. I could use that
six hundred dollars. You want to get me cash for
Christmas this year, Shannon, that would be really nice.
Speaker 4 (36:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
I mean people send me money all the time. Usually
it's foreign money that's not worth anything. You can venmo
me if you want American money, I'm fine with that.
Let's go to Calvin. Hey, Calvin, what's up?
Speaker 3 (36:57):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (36:57):
Can you hear me?
Speaker 1 (36:58):
I got you?
Speaker 2 (36:58):
Man, got you.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
So.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
Something that's been on my mind lately is, uh, I
feel like Louisville is spending less money on nil and
they're still, you know, a really good basketball program right now,
and they beat us in football, and I wonder what
we can do because I mean, they're obviously succeeding without
spending as much money. And that's that's been something that's
(37:21):
set them set in my mind lately. Another thing is
its will Stein guy. He seems he seems kind of
wet behind the ears, and I hope we don't have
another whip higher because I really, I really think Mark
Pope was a whip in my opinion. But those are
my two statements I got for you guys, And the
first one's kind of a question of how do we
get to that standard with what Louisville has spending less money?
Speaker 1 (37:43):
Well, I mean I would say not only money, Yeah,
thanks for the call, Calvin. I would say not only Louisville,
but every team that's having success in college basketball is
doing it with less made because Kentucky's spending more money
than anybody. So take all the teams that are ranked
above Kentucky and you could say the same thing for them,
all those goals. They're paying out less money for the
roster and they're having more success than Kentucky.
Speaker 2 (38:04):
Yeah, it just goes back to the recruiting process and
who you invest that money in. You know what we've
talked about roster construction, going out and getting more physical guys,
better defense after what happened last year, and now you're
left with the team with not a lot of shooters.
So you just got to invest your money a little
bit better. I don't think Mark Pope's a whif higher yet.
I mean, let's let's pump the brakes a little bit.
(38:25):
But they do have to start winning these games. I
mean it is important moving forward.
Speaker 1 (38:29):
Yeah, let's go back to the phones. I don't have
a name for this person.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
You're on random?
Speaker 1 (38:33):
Yes, Hello, Hey, this.
Speaker 6 (38:36):
Is old Miss Cowboy.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
How are y'all bowled?
Speaker 1 (38:38):
Old Miss Cowboy? What's going on?
Speaker 2 (38:40):
Oh cowboy?
Speaker 6 (38:42):
Yeah, y'all was over bouldering at the game and places,
remember maybe with the cowboy had on? Well you don't.
Speaker 1 (38:48):
Remember the memory. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (38:51):
Yeah, we y'all were playing old miss a damn football
on Thurday. I was sitting over in the corner. But anyway,
that's now, uh the uh mark everything. She stole that
song from Vincent Vance out of Louisiana.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Yeah, I didn't think that she wrote it, but her
version is the most popular version of the song, so
that's why.
Speaker 3 (39:09):
She got That's that's that bull crap.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
All right.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
You can look at the numbers, I mean, we could
we could talk about whether or not it's you know,
whether you or not. You can look at the numbers
and see it's one of the most successful songs of
all time.
Speaker 2 (39:25):
It is.
Speaker 6 (39:26):
I can't believe it. So she knows somebody. She's in
the rock and roll Hall of Fame. How'd she get
in her rock roll Hall of Fame? But anyway, let
me ask you something. The money that they could paying
for these coaches and so someone said that none of
that is taxpayer money. Is that true?
Speaker 1 (39:42):
I'm not sure if it is taxpayer money or not. Billy,
do you know the answer.
Speaker 2 (39:45):
To that, Well, I mean revenue sharing is based on
what the school gets from the conference, so that that
wouldn't be the money from the taxpayers.
Speaker 1 (39:54):
Actually, So basically you're saying, are you in the opinion
of if it's not my money, I don't care, because
that's kind of where I'm at. If it's not my money,
I don't care what you do with the money, Just
don't spend my money.
Speaker 6 (40:05):
Yeah, that's loss. I'm lost center some Nascar. I lost
center in sports. I'll pick this little guy Century College
here in Kentucky. Uh, you know, I'll root for them.
I just I just lost.
Speaker 1 (40:22):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (40:22):
But the money thing it is, I go back to
rupp you know, and all that's right?
Speaker 1 (40:28):
Right, Well, it's a lot different a lot different and
it's not going back. I appreciate the call. Thanks. Let's
get one more on here real quick. John shorts on, Hey,
John on.
Speaker 3 (40:35):
John, Hi, everybody, you're great Americans.
Speaker 1 (40:38):
You're a great American. Go ahead, John, you get about
twenty thirty seconds.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
Go ahead to wind the hand volleyball.
Speaker 2 (40:44):
Yesterday.
Speaker 3 (40:45):
We're gonna win again tomorrow. Five gains nothing. We're gonna
beat Indiana tomorrow night by five Biggins and the women's
thing it be belt my ficky begans.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
All right, there you go, fake Wiggins. Yeah, let's just
hope we Hey, I hope you're right, John, I hope
we do get a over Indiana.
Speaker 2 (41:00):
We need it.
Speaker 1 (41:01):
Thanks for the call.
Speaker 2 (41:02):
