It's time for kicking it with former Seahawks punter John Ryan.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Seahawks legend John Ryan, what is on your mind this week?
Last night I threw out the ceremonial opening pitch of
the Portland pigal game. I've done it at least ten
times for a variety of teams over the years. So
let me give you some advice if you ever get
the chance to do this. You don't have to be
Nolan Ryan, but you do have to make it look
like you've seen a baseball before. So rule one, don't

(00:27):
dan halfway to home plate. That's cheating and we all
know it. Second rule, throw overhand, not underhand. Oh yeah,
this isn't an office softball game. Third rule, aim for
the catcher's glove, not the mascot's head, not the dugout,
and definitely not the camera person. If you bounce it, fine,

(00:49):
if you sell it to the backstop, we'll laugh. But
if you take twenty practice wind ups and still throw
like you're tossing bread to ducks, retire from public life immediately.
And for the love of baseball, don't do the whole
fake throw gag or the shaking off the catcher gag.
It's not funny, Uncle Walter. It's been done since eighteen
ninety four. Just grip it, rip it and give us

(01:12):
something that we won't end up on YouTube titled top
ten worst first pitches ever. That's it. That's the whole job.
You had one pitch. But if you do mess up,
just know, no matter how bad it was, fifty cent
was worse. Look it up. Thank you. Hands down the
worst one ever. But you say you've done this a
lot now, John Ryan, you're a professional athlete. Have you

(01:33):
bounced it in I've not bounced it and I've not
sailed it, and also I've never thrown a strike. But
I get the job done.
