Thirty six thirteen ten WIBA Madison inthe morning and ask the experts joined this
morning on location. I are goodfriend Josh gow Its owner at Legacy Exteriors
the website Legacy dash Exteriors dot com. That's Legacy Dash Exteriors dot Com.
Telph number six to eight two twoone three thousand. That's two two one
three thousand. Josh, Have youhad a cheeseburger in Paradise yet yet?
(00:30):
This week? Oh? Yeah, yes, everywhere I eat a cheeseburger,
it feels like Paradise. We weretalking yesterday and I don't know if you
caught this on the program about JuicyLucy's. Have you ever had at Juicy
Lucy? I have big fan ofuh laly overrated me. Oh that's because
(00:52):
we're we're Wisconsin. I acletdly lookover at Minnesota claim to invent him and
so yeah, maybe that maybe thinkI shared with you, speaking of places
that we tend to get food fromtime to time, a certain gas station
chain here in Wisconsin, I tendto go to get get snacks. And
I saw seen on somebody's Facebook pagea picture from one of these very popular
(01:15):
convenience stores, and it was apicture specifically of the gutter and inside the
gutter there was a small tree growingout of the gutter, but also a
very Wisconsin thing. There was acorn stock as well, growing out of
the gutter. Have you ever seencorn growing out of somebody's gutter before,
Josh, No, that was thefirst. That was the first. Shrubbery
(01:40):
trees. Yeah, absolutely, butbut corn, no, no thought.
Oh my goodness, I've got somecorn growing in the back here too.
Very bizarre this year, but itbrings us too as we talk about the
rain and the heat that we wefinally got the rain and for a lot
of folks, the deluge. Yeah, over the weekend. I think a
(02:00):
lot of them. They're gutters thathave been probably very much ignored for most
of this season. They suddenly realizedthat they are a very important part of
your home. Correct. Yeah, they got hit pretty hard, a lot
of rain in a short period oftime, and I think that put the
(02:21):
gutter system to a major test rightaway. So because we haven't had that
much rain, so if you didn'tclean them out, you probably had some
major issues. How does that Imean? For we talk about the work
that you guys do at Legacy exteriors. Of course we've talked and passed about
master shield gutters and all the greatbenefits to them. How does that,
(02:45):
dude? The phones typically when ityou know, like what we previous had.
I know your guys are going morning, noon and night getting everything,
getting folks taken care of. Butdo the phones rang extra loud on those
type of days? Like like, was Nikki really busy Monday morning with folks
calling in saying, Oh my goodness, we've got to we've got to get
to get legacy exteriors out, We'vegot to get master shield put on our
(03:06):
home. Is does the weather contributeto the phone calls? Oh? Yeah,
yeah, this past storm this weekendis going to produce a lot of
different calls in a lot of theirvoice. Like you just said, you
know people's gutter system, they're goingto find out that it's not working or
they need gutter guards. But Plattvillehad baseball size silo UM which is going
(03:32):
to and and it hit quite afew areas, so a lot of homes,
a lot of roofs and sighting aregoing to be damaged. UM and
Platville wasn't the only area that gothit by tale UM. But I did
hear baseball enough to stoffball size sailin Flatville. Let's talk about that.
And as we talked this morning withJosh Gawitt's owner at Legacy Exteriors, the
(03:53):
website Legacy dash Exteriors dot com. That's Legacy Dash Exteriors dot com. Dolphin
number six way two two one threethousand, that's two two one three thousand.
I think of some of those largeryou start talking about baseball and softball
size hail the damage that they're doingis going to be somewhat apparent. You're
probably going to notice if one ofthose things smacks your house, smacks you're
(04:15):
siding, smacks your roof, smackssomething you own, you're probably gonna take
note. But for folks even whohad smaller things, the trouble sometimes with
those with those smaller hailstones is thedamage isn't always apparent to the naked eye
or to the untrained eye. It'simportant with this stuff, whether you're seeing
signs or you simply saw the signof hail coming through, to make sure
(04:36):
that that you're having your house check, whether it's your roof, you're siding,
those things, to make sure thatthere was no damage done to you
to your property. Yeah, Ithink it's always a good idea to have
a contractor that's experienced in storm relateddamage to have an inspection done on your
home. That way, if thereis damage done, the can point it
(05:00):
out to you. But more importantly, they can go to bat for the
homeowner on their behalf and be kindof that go between with the insurance company
and make sure that that homeowner getsput back exactly the way they need to
be put back. And that's importanttoo as you talk about having a go
between between the insurance and the homeowner, is you know there's insurance companies.
(05:21):
I mean, we've got a verynice city and part of what makes medicine
in this community is such a greatthing is there are some big insurers here
that do very very well and treattheir employees very well and are really an
asset. But the reality as ahomeowner, you don't always know what's going
on, and when it comes toany type of insurance adjuster or whatever,
I mean, they're really just kindof giving it a look over. They've
(05:43):
probably got two hundred houses to lookover in your neighborhood. They're kind of
coming in and going through and justkind of signing off being very quickly and
trying to do just basically the minimumand get out of the next thing.
One of the great things I knowwhen working with you guys at Legacy Exteriors,
Josh, is you guys will takethe time to really inspect the home,
inspect the roof and spect the siding, and really make sure that everything
(06:04):
that people have coming to them whenit comes to their coverage, that they're
that they're getting that form full valueof this this insurance that they've paid for
right and and and you know aswell as I do, just having somebody
that can speak the language of insuranceand reading the paperwork of insurance because it's
(06:26):
not exactly the easiest thing to understandwhat's covered what's not covered, UM,
And so having a company that's experiencedin that and can read it and get
that homeowner back to where they needto be is very important because sometimes they
do miss things UM. And supplementsare a definite real thing, So you
(06:48):
want somebody that's experienced, UM.You know, like you know, we
we have the same computer program asthe insurance once when we put together these
estimates for the insurance and supplements forthe insurance. It's very we speak the
same language. I would say,is that is in one of those two
(07:08):
things, Josh, as we talkabout legacy exteriors and of course your history
here in town and the work thatyou guys do in the reputation you've built.
The great thing too is you're goingto be around, and you've been
around. One of the downsides isbecause of the things like storms and other
things that means there are people inneighborhoods and areas, and there's there's things
(07:30):
out there there, software and appsand other things that literally show areas that
that had hailed damage and these kindof operations that go around the country.
Oftentimes they're going to drive around thestate of the Midwest, they'll follow these
storms across the country. They'll comein, they'll make you an offer to
do this stuff. And the troubleis one, if you get the work
(07:50):
done, your count yourself as alucky one. If Gosh forbade you ever
have an issue or a question whichyou are judging with the works these folks
do, you probably will. They'regoing to be nowhere, absolutely nowhere to
be found. Legacy exteriors, youguys are are here in town, Um,
you guys are here in southern Wisconsin, and you are here when folks
(08:11):
need them. Yeah, I meanI think it's important to you know,
obviously be here for the now,but you know ten years from now,
you know, you want to makesure that and you know as well as
I do. You know our warranties, you know, with the Golden Pledge,
I mean it's uh, it's fullybacked by not only US but the
(08:31):
manufacturer. And you're not going toget that kind of warranty or that kind
of coverage with a storm chaser that'snot even gonna be in the location a
year from now. And as soonas as soon as the work, the
storm work is gone, it's overthere. You know what's interesting about that
too, Josh, is people, and I think people are are kind of
(08:54):
wives to it. I think oneof the things are getting wiser to to
kind of proceeding with caution. Idon't know though, that until folks have
experienced, um one of these people, the people that are like knocking on
your door. It's not like aneasy like no, thank you, They
don't take that for an answer. These people can be very very difficult um
(09:16):
to say no to, and they'revery persistent and they're actually people may be
surprised by this, and I knowyou and I have talked off there about
it. I don't think we broughtit up during our segment, but they
are they are trained, and theyuse techniques to really get in your house
and really basically sit there until youagree to sign a contract. And at
that point, you know, thenthen all of a sudden they'll they'll decide
(09:39):
to go. But they are verywell skilled and this is not a positive
skill, but they are very welltrained in being very persistent on getting you
to sign contracts. There's they're definitelythat. But they're all still very skilled
at appearing local. No UM,which is you know, the more scary
part because some will take on companynames very closely resembling that of somebody local.
(10:05):
UM, So be careful on um, not only um of the company
that appears local. But I meanthere's a lot of different ways where you
can um, you know, askfor you know, addresses or permits done
in the last three years, UM, things of that nature. But yeah,
(10:30):
they're they're there. This is nottheir first rodeo. This is what
they do for a living. They'revery good at it, and there is
a place for them because sometimes astorm hits and there's so much work.
It's it's, um, you know, a lot more work than say a
few local companies can handle. Sothere is a place form to make sure
that all the work gets done. But the main problem is making sure all
(10:54):
that work that's getting done is gettingdone right, um, and it's going
to be there when you need themtwo or three years down the road.
If something were to happen a storm, a true storm company is going to
be off to the next storm thatnext day. That's that's important, I
think to one of I remember probablyone of the first segments you and I
(11:16):
ever did together. I had jotteddown a quote you said, we don't
have to be the call, butwe do. We should be one of
your calls when it comes to youknow, whether it's roofing, siding,
those type of things. Make sureyou're proactive. I mean as a homeowner,
I'm not. I don't want tosay some of this is on you,
but the reality is some of itis on you to to really you
know, there's these there are thesecompanies out there that you know that you
(11:37):
trust. We talk with Josh eachand every week and get to know Josh
and know what he's all about.Make those calls. You can be proactive.
I think one of the one ofthe easiest ways to kind of fend
off some of this stuff is simplysay I've already got I've already got my
guys are coming out later today.Boom, close the door, and you're
on your way. So um,make sure that Legacy ex Year is one
of the calls and be proactive aboutthis stuff. You have any questions and
(12:00):

things. We'll get those details fromJosh. Next as Ask the Experts with

of mind. How the best thingthat will happen to come and say no,
(13:56):
everything looks good, and you willbe confident and comfortable. If there
is an issue, they can helpyou at Legacy Exteriors again the number six
away two two one three thousand, and Josh, one of the things too
that I know comes up is understandingwarranties, guarantees those type of things.
Is, for example, if ifI go down to big box store X
y Z and I pick up athing as shingles and throw out my back
(14:18):
while I'm lifting them, there's aguarantee on that box that says something to
the effect of guaranteed for blah, blah blah blah blah. That's all fine
and well, if I'm going tokeep them in my garage for the next
next twenty thirty years, all good. Once you start putting them on your
roof, that guarantee means something alittle bit different. It does not mean
that if it does, if itdoesn't perform, they're going to replace your
(14:41):
room. It means they they'll giveyou the cost of the value of that
one single shingle. It's it's it'sit's complicated for homeowners, and you've got
a way to make it very verysimple for homeowners. And that's of course
Master Elite with GAF and your statusthere, and of course that that Golden
Pledge warranty it comes with that.Yeah. I think we could quote Tommy
(15:03):
Boy here and say, you know, take a something in a boxing market
got guaranteed. But all singles, for the most part today are marked and
labeled lifetime warranty. And I thinka lot of people get trapped in fulled
by that statement because they hear lifetimewarranty, they just feel I'm covered and
(15:26):
everything's going to be great. Thefact of the matter is most shingle warranties
tend to be like a tire warranty. It sounds great until you actually need
to use it. So, forinstance, the most shingle warranties run the
run like this, So they're warrantedjust on the shingle, and then they
are non pro rated for ten years, and then they pro rate for the
(15:50):
next thirty years, and then they'reable to call themselves a lifetime shingle.
But if you were to have aproblem with that, you're going to get
a very very small portion of thatroof because you will be on the hook
for labor, all accessories, andthen whatever portion of shingle warranty is left.
So where a Master Elite warranty,a Golden Pledge warranty is a fifty
(16:15):
year non pro rated warranty and notonly the shingles but all the accessories underneath,
and then it's backed by a twentyfive year labor warranty and that's all
backed by the manufacturer. So Imean the master and only master leads can
offer it. The less than twopercent of companies in America can offer that
(16:37):
strong of a warranty, and therethe shingle manufacturers are extremely picky on who
is carrying it. And they vetthem in a numerous different ways. But
we were fortunate enough to have wonmultiple times. Actually the President's Club Award,
which is award given to only youhave to be master lead to be
(16:59):
able to even win that the eliteof Yeah, and that's impressive and it's
it's it goes to show. Andwe talk about the impressiveness of not just
having the master elite status but thenbeing recognized. Again you mentioned the best
of the best being recognized out ofthose as being exceptional, amazing and the
really great work. And you talkabout the roof and the roof is such
(17:22):
an important part of your home.Yes, it should look nice, but
really, uh, it's about performanceas well and making sure that you're preserving
and making sure that your home yourbig investment. Yeah, that it works
and it's protected. Um with thatand let's our people often this is the
thing that that I'm always surprised by, is the more I learn and talking
with you over the years about aboutroofing is And maybe it's because previous to
(17:47):
to knowing you, I didn't fullyunderstand all that goes into earth. But
are people just amazed at how muchwhen you show, Like I know,
You've got some great displays about youknow, the different layers and different parts
and different components that go the We'renot talking about something simple like, oh,
we'll put down some you know,a roll of that what's that paper
that goes down, and we're gonnathrow some some felt. Yeah, and
(18:08):
then we're gonna throw some shingles overit and you'll be good to go.
There's way more to the yan, yeah, I mean the way we have
to do it too. And sowith somebody wants a roof, there's a
lot of different ways you can dothat. According to code UM, when
somebody gets a Master Elite roof that'sgolden pludge warranted by us UM, the
(18:33):
installation method has to go above andbeyond UM code and specs. So we
we are putting ice and water shieldaround any penetration all valleys. We also
put it starter on the on therake, not just the edges, and
that actually by doing that not onlyensures that the golden pludge warranty is where
(18:55):
it needs to be, but wecan actually give that homeowner an unlimited wind
warranty, which is unheard of.So there's a lot of different things that
go into not only the products themselvesthat are on that roof, but the
installation practices on that roof as well, so we can give that homeowner not
only the best ruff possible, butwe're in compliance with how to install for
(19:19):
Golden Pludge warranties, because as youknow, all our roofs get randomly inspected
by the manufacturer because they want tomake sure since they're taking on this warranty
as a company, they want tomake sure that's being installed directly. Today
is today to be proactive, pickupphone, give them a call. Legacy
