Thirty six thirteen ten WI be aMaddowson in the morning and ask the experts.
Joined in studio this morning by misterJosh Gawitz, owner at Legacy Exteriors,
the website Legacy dash exteriors dot com. That's Legacy Dash Exteriors dot com.
Telephon number six to eight two twoone three thousand. That's two two
one three thousand. I want tohold on to that telephone number because a
little bit later in the program,Josh, You're gonna have a special opportunity,

(00:30):
so folks are gonna want to payclose times that. How are you
doing, man, I'm doing great. How are you? I'm doing well.
It's great to see you. Areyou shaving this morning? You're you
look kind of like that morning shadow. Yeah. Effect. You're a young
looking dude, so you know,it's I appreciate that you're lying, but
I appreciate that you you you uh, we're telling me. Before the show

(00:53):
and Automat asked you about some ofthe strange things that uh, that you
found in gutters and other places. One of the things too, in that
conversation you had mentioned is sometimes thereare people that will have maybe pest control
issues, like things like bats orother critters. Yeah, and they'll call
like other companies that do other typesof work, not roofing, they don't
call the roofer. They call pestcontrol, and they modify or alter parts

(01:18):
of roofs. And again they're probablyvery knowledgeable about bats and critters, but
not so much roofs, not somuch. H Yeah, No, we've
we've gotten on a few calls latelywhere the ridge vent they think the ridge
vent is messed up, which atone is because the company they're hired to
get rid of the bats, theyinstall this contraption to let the bats out,

(01:42):
but they really do a number onthe ridge vent. She and I
wouldn't say ruined the roof, butdefinitely not part of needs to get redone.
Do you advise, I mean, with that type of situation, obviously
bats are no bueno, Yeah, but also bad roof no buano as well.
Would you advise, like a homeownerin that situation, to make sure

(02:02):
that they're that they're calling you guysas well, just to have you as
part of that unfree I would definitelyhave a roofer a part of that conversation,
just because the last couple that we'veseen they they don't look water tight
when they're done. Yeah. Soyeah, I think especially like if you

(02:28):
if you just want to be aheavier peace of mind and make sure that
what they're doing up there is goingto be you know, satisfy, you
know, a roofer's peace of mind. Sure. I think it's always a
good idea to consult somebody that doesit every day. Yeah, and we're
gonna get to we're gonna talk sidingwindows and doors as well. But as
we're as we're talking to about roofs, what about with add ons like solar?

(02:52):
Do you guys, how do Ifeel like this is a whole other
show we could we could probably spendhours talking about, but how does that
work? Like or as far asuh, integrating solar? Yeah, So
we work with we've over the years, we worked with tons of different solar
companies and we work in conjunction. So we'll we'll get our stuff ready,

(03:15):
then they put their you know, their pegs down where they need to.
We'll we'll come behind them and flasheverything and then rough it and then they
can put their panels on so everythingis ready to go. We actually work
together in most circumstances and it worksout great. That is all. That's
great to know because I think Iknow, obviously it's becoming more and more

(03:36):
popular an option for folks thinking tosave a couple of bucks here or there
or whatever. And making sure thatthat you're working with somebody that that's working
with you guys as well. That'sreally really important obvious to talk with.
Josh Git's owner at Legacy Exteriors. The website Legacy dash Exteriors dot com.
That's Legacy Dash Exteriors dot com.Tel for number six away two two one
three thousand, that's two two onethree thousand for Legacy Exteriors. So along

(03:59):
the line of critters as well, woodpeckers generally like like trees, but sometimes
some older homes they might start tohave a thing for sighting. Yeah,
I mean, wood siding is canbe a lot bigger space for those woodpeckers
to go do their thing. Andwe've we've seen some you know, obviously

(04:23):
some major damage created by woodpeckers andobviously a beautiful bird, but you don't
want them ruining your beautiful house. So we've we've seen some major damage,
major holes caused by it, andobviously they're trying to you know it's it's
usually means you have a problem withyour siding or it's allowing a food source

(04:45):
for that woodpecker behind it, andthey're and they're they're gonna peck through it
until they get to what they're lookingfor. So yeah, we we usually
in most circumstances when we're you know, getting rid of the woodpecker holes and
upgrade to a different sighting product.A great option is cement board. So

(05:06):
I don't want to say anything's woodpeckerproof, but I mean it's made out
of cement. Yes. With that, With that conversation, and we think
of other pests as well, whetherit's whether it's the feather type or I
think of also the multi legged typethat like to get in places, insects,
bugs, those type of things.Having that you mentioned with wood Obviously

(05:28):
the woodpeckers looking generally for some typeof food source, which means there's something
living in there and nobody wants thateither the cement side, nothing's living in
there, is it, right?Yeah, as long as you know,
when we completely take everything off andcompletely redo everything, it's it's not only
going to be water tight, butobviously you know, insects is not going

(05:48):
to get behind there, so you'renot going to have to worry about a
woodpecker coming in and destroying your beautiful, nice home. And the product itself,
like James Hardy, you know,it is made of cement, so
it's gonna discourage not only insects, but woodpeckers and any any kind of animal

(06:11):
that might eat their way through normalwood siding. Uh, it'll probably eliminate
that and it'll look amazing and it'llit'll perform amazing. And just dogs are
running, you know. It's that'sit comes with the coffee. Look at
that he got Starbucks in a visitvisit from the dog. You can't.
You're not gonna beat that at all. It's not every day, not every

(06:32):
day at all. Well, andye sure absolutely talking this morning with Josh
Cowit some legacix here it is talkinga little bit about siding and siding options.
Whether you're dealing with woodpeckers, insects, or just want your house to
look better, perform better. Definitelycheck out what they've got to offer.
A Legacy Exteriors website, Legacy DashExteriors dot com. That's Legacy Dash Exteriors

(06:54):
dot com. And speaking of thingsthat that do well, perform well and
make your house look great. Windowsare an area that can and when done
right. As of course we knowwhat Legacy Exterior is. What you guys
are able to do. Oh mygoodness, windows can make They can not
only make the exterior house look great, but the inside look great as well.
Yeah. I think windows can bea huge design portion of your home.

(07:17):
Set your house up for not onlynice curb appeal, but you don't
enjoy that beautiful view that you have. And there's so many design options when
it comes to windows. I thinkpeople think that they got to stick with
either the same size hole or thesame type of window that goes in.
But if you are in need ofwindows, we'll let one of our designers

(07:44):
meet with them. They can goover all the different options, all the
new cool features that are in windowsnowadays. There's so many that I'm sure
a lot of people just don't evenknow about and that would kind of be
blown away by it's it's pretty andwe've talked about some of the different technology
and some of the different brands andlines that you carry at Legacy Exteriors.
That's a great thing too. Thereare so many different options and The great

(08:05):
thing too with the professionals at LegacyExteriors and your and your skilled folks out
in the field, is you mentionedyou're not stuck with if you can.
If you say I like the sizethis window, I like the place.
Absolutely you can do replacement. Butif you want something bigger, you want
to do something that bumps out,you want to do those type of things,
You've got the crews, the talentand designers to do that for people,

(08:28):
don't you. Absolutely, And whetherit's so one of our big lines
we carry as Pella, and Pellahas a lot of different lines themselves,
you know, whether it's you know, your wood or your Impervia which is
fiberglass, or you know, thetwo fifty series are encompassed with they're both
a vinyl. They got a lotof different not only price points for everybody,

(08:50):
but just design elements for everybody. And I the cool thing about Pella
in their wood wood line as theyoffer an ole rot warranty and they're the
only ones that do that, whichis really neat. So I think a
lot of people are you know, are shy away from maybe what at times
because of that maintenance and that rotpossibility. Well with with Pella, you're

(09:16):
actually warranted against it, and youguys are a preferred contractor for Pela,
and we talk a lot about thedifferent recognition and the different training and the
standards that Legacy Exteriors and I don'tknow that we've talked about about being a
Pella certified Preferred contractor and all thedifferent options. Again, going back to
being able to if you want to, again, you want to do a

(09:37):
simple replacement, certainly can be done. If you want to do something different,
that's another level of carpentry. That'sat another level of work, and
your teams have have achieved that, and that's for a homeowner that's a big
deal. It's one thing. Let'ssay you've got like a rental property,
for example, and you want tojust put more efficient windows in. You
guys got that, but you've gotyour main property. You're saying, this

(09:58):
is my house, man, Iwant to bring in some I want to
see the outdoors, want this spaceto feel bigger on that little window and
the kitchen's not cutting it. Speakingof cutting it, you guys can condet
definitely do that stuff. We canwe can definitely redesign and frame in do
whatever it needs to be done tohave you achieved that look, you know,
and I think some people the coolthing about a company like ours is

(10:24):
when we say we do take thoseeight pictures of the home and we put
it into a three D imaging process. We could do the same thing we
do with windows or siding with windows. So let's say you've never seen what
windows with top rowe grids would looklike, and you like the idea of
it, but don't know what it'lllook like the home. Well, we

(10:45):
can do all that and you can. We can design it, throw it,
throw the windows with the top rowgrids on you on your three D
home and see what the look wouldlook like and if that's something you would
want on your actual home. Andthat before any anything any works done,
you can actually see an exact whatit's going to look like and right with
really and you guys have pretty powerthe tools. That's the other thing too.

(11:07):
As a tech nerd, which I'velearned about, you love technology,
and I just love all the differenttools and different tech that you guys employ.
And one of the great things isbenefit for a homeowner is those type
of things really allow them to makethat perfect choice, those perfect decisions for
what they want for their home andit's such a cool process working with Josh
and the team at Legacy Exteriors.Today as a day, the day to

(11:30):
pick up phone, give them acall six away two two one three thousand.
That's two two one three thousand. The website Legacy Dash Exteriors dot com.
That's Legacy Dash Exteriors dot com.Talk a little bit more about windows.
We also talk a bit about doorsand Josh will have a special for
you. You're gonna want to staytuned for that as well. And the
meantime we have been to the website. Check them out online. Legacy Dash
Exteriors dot Com. Telphone number sixaway two two one three thousand. That's

(11:52):
two two one three thousand, threethousand. More of Ask the experts next
right here on thirteen ten Wibai Theexperts hanging out studio this morning with Josh
Gwit's low owner at Legacy Exteriors. The website Legacy Dash Exteriors dot com.

(12:16):
It's Legacy Dash Exteriors dot com.Dolphin number six eight two two one three
thousand, that's two two one threethousand. Thinking about doing some some work
where you thinking about siding windows, talked earlier about about some of the add
ons to your roof if you dohave a contractor coming out to do things
like a batdoor, or maybe you'rethinking about going solar check checking with Josh

(12:37):
and the team, and you mentionedworking you work with with these with these
companies as well, and that's it'sa good thing too, so you get
the universal expertise. And we leftthat that last segment off talking about windows,
and you mentioned Pela and not onlydo do Pela's windows obviously they are
they are the standard, They lookgreat, they have a bunch of we're

(12:58):
talking technology, cool features, differentdifferent options, and you would you had
mentioned that there's some things that peoplemay not even think about when it comes
to windows. I think we talkeda while ago about like the casement windows
and some other things that Pella thatyou guys carrying and for homeowners, you
don't know until you start that conversation. Absolutely. Uh. One of the

(13:20):
coolest features that Pella has, andit's an exclusive feature from Pella, is
they have a roll up screen. So when you open that window to air
in that's it'll come up with ascreen as well. So when you close
the window and it's all closed thereis no screen to look through, so

(13:41):
you get the literally the best clearestview a window can make. And that's
one of the just the many, many features exclusive to Pella. You know,
we talked to about Legacy Exteriors andthe work that you that you guys
do, and of course the reputationyou've built with great work. Pella's hellas
along that that same line is notonly are they great and well built against

(14:07):
the windows, but they've also gotthat history as well, and especially here
in Wisconsin, that that name reputation, with that and with with that close
relationship you guys have at Legacy Exteriorswith Pela. That gives you guys opportunities
for extra training and extra recognition aswell, doesn't it. It sure does.
I mean I think not only Pela, but a lot of the companies

(14:28):
that we work with, you know, GAF included, align very closely with
what we believe. So we wereas far as we're not going to sit
back and go, yeah, we'rewe're as good as we're going to get,
you know, and and Pella GFsame thing. They're not resting on
their what they've done in the pastand said we've created the very best it's

(14:50):
not going to get any better. They're constantly innovating, designing, coming up
with new ways to improve their product, improve of their installed techniques, whatever
the case may be. And we'relucky to be a part of such great
products and teams. And you're right, they were constantly learning as our team

(15:13):
our selves and going through trainings everyevery day every year, always getting recertified
and learning something new, learning newtechniques. And Josh, you talk about
two innovation and design. That's theother thing at Legacy Exteriors, you guys
doing. We start talking about doorsas well, the design options a door,
and I think anybody that's ever talkedwith a realtor, they they talk

(15:35):
a lot about doors because doors havea significant impact, not only as you
mentioned earlier when we're talking windows oncurb appeal, but they also have like
a really really important value to that'skind of that's where people first experience your
home. It's when people come upto your house, whether it's guests or
or if you're looking to eventually sell. That's one of the first things people

(15:56):
notice, isn't it. Yeah, your first impression, Yes, so,
And there's so many different styles andoptions when it comes to doors. I
think a door is is not onlyyou're going to set your house apart,
but that's a place where you couldbe unique and really show what kind of

(16:18):
style you have as a person.Yeah, and put it into your entry
door because there's unlimited options. Andwith that you mentioned unlimited options, and
that goes back to two we weretalking earlier about windows. Is you can
do a simple door replacement, youknow, upgrade obviously with modern materials and
and and that. But you canalso if you say, you know what
I want, maybe something wider,I want? What's those like sidelights,

(16:41):
sidelights? I want that stuff? You guys at Legacy you've got the tools,
transom sidelights, we can go nuts. You can just basically the whole
front of your house door and maybemaybe instead of your you know, your
standard seven foot door, maybe wego nine nice and just opened that baby
up? Is it too? Asyou mentioned some of these some of these

(17:02):
bigger options efficiency but also security.I don't think people realize you can have
the most elegant looking door. AndI know for you know, as as
as parents, you and I are, we want to make sure that that
the house is secure. Not onlydo they look beautiful and elegant. These
are very very these entry ways canbe very very secure. Yeah, I
think there, and that's one ofthe design process will go through as far

(17:27):
as security options you want to puton that door. How many multipoint lock
systems you want on that door, you know, the hinge styles you want
on that door, see you nameit, it'll the design process will walk
you through it and it literally goesthrough every kind of piece on that door,
so you can truly design your ownand but it definite. The security

(17:49):
is a huge part of it obviously. And when you sit down in the
showroom at Legacy Exteriors, they willbring it some coffee and you're gonna get
comfy because you've got some got somereally really cool stuff that We've got some
really big design things that you guysare in the neat part. You can
see it before it ever gets orderedand on that home that is so awesome.
