Eight thirty five thirteen ten Wi bA and Ask the Experts joined in studio
this morning by Josh cow It's ofLegacy Exteriors online. Legacy Dash Exteriors dot
com. That's Legacy Dash Exteriors dotCom. The telephone number six away two
two one three thousand. That's twotwo one three thousand. You guys don't
do work on headphone jacks, doyou? Josh? No, because I

(00:30):
feel like if you were able todo that, we would never have an
issue with it again, Yeah,we could hear, Yeah, going on
an important part of what we doaround here. Good to see him,
man, How you been? I'mdoing great. How do you like that?
What is that that say? Sugarcookie coffee? It's delicious, it
is and it's uh probably a problemgood thing in seasonal? Yes, yes,

(00:54):
little Starbucks this morning. Last timeyou ran you had dou both Starbucks
and UH and bull So you haven'tsleapt since that, you know? Yes,
yes, you got to stay awakeduring the holidays, you do.
We've got to, of course, with the snow on the ground this morning
and the colder temperatures. And Iknow a lot of folks when the when
the Christmas and holiday stuff starts tocome out, they start thinking about doing

(01:17):
things like I gotta put the plasticon the windows this year. Do those
those other chores. We're going totalk about some signs that your windows are
due, and those things you shouldbe looking for when it comes to probably
considering a replacement. I'll give abonus one by the way, because I
doubt this is on the list ofthe five. But if you can put
your hand through your window, thenit's then it's probably time to be replaced.

(01:38):
It's called broken. I think that'sthat's not just really clear of glass.
You've got your boys into sports.Have they ever broken a window on
you? Oh? Yes, yes, yes? What haven't they broken?
Yes? Is the good question?Speaking of broken things in the boys.

(02:00):
You know one of those old schoolChristmas trees that it's it's ceramic and it
has the fake lights up. Youknow. Our grandmas used to have them.
Y So my grandma or my wife'sgrandma had one of those and passed
it on to her, and ourlittlest one broke it, shattered it into

(02:21):
a million pieces playing basketball in thehouse. Of course. Yeah. I
could have paid for those things arehuge collectibles. Paid for his college.
They're making knockoffs, now, arethey really? Yeah? Of those,
but hers was real and I actuallyspent I gathered every piece together because I

(02:42):
knew how much it meant to her, and I actually put it back together.
I glued it all back together.I actually made new parts out of
like the plaster that I couldn't find. But you you'll, you would.
It's hanging in our living room now. You would never know it was broken.
That is awesome. And again withkiddos, you gotta be You've got

(03:04):
to be resilient like that. Yes, yeah, that is for sure.
Let's talk about as we talked thismorning with Josh Cowitz, owner of Legacy
Exteriors website Legacy dash Exteriors dot Com. Telp Number six away two two one
three thousand. That's two two onethree thousand, let's talk about some of
the more common things that go onwith windows. That's probably an indicator it's
time to at the very least havethem, have them looked at. Well.

(03:27):
The the one you mentioned is noteven on here, but I would
say that's a very good Uh.If you have to put plastic on your
glass, yeah, that's a problem. Yeah, if they're difficult to operate,
So just not going up and downor not. You know, if
they're a case of window and they'renot, sometimes you crak them out and
they won't crank back in and youhave to go on the outside and push

(03:51):
them in, and a lot ofcouples. Yeah that's there. Yeah,
that's a bad sign that it's timefor some new windows. So I would
say if the hardware or the easyslides just no longer are working. Sometimes
the on real wood windows, thebottom sash'll uh kind of rot out or
start riding out, and that'll makeit incredibly hard to operate. So that's

(04:14):
definitely number one. Uncomfortable drafts orport energy efficiency. That probably speaks to
your plastic. But yeah, soit could be you know, they're out
of level or plumb or out ofsquare, you know, something along those
lines. But I would say ifif you need to, because if you

(04:39):
upgrade your efficiency on your windows, the technology on windows today is outstanding,
you're probably gonna recoup a lot ofcosts over time just by upgrading that.
It's like if you had like singlepane windows for instance, and just upgrading
to like an energy star a rateddouble pain low ar gun you know kind

(05:02):
of a basic package but meets theenergy start rating nowadays compared to the single
pain. I mean, it wouldblow you away. The difference, Yeah,
go ahead, Hey, Well thatwas what to me is in talking
with you over the years about aboutwindows and other things, is that's one
of those areas that have just blownmy mind. Is the idea that that
glass is made now and layers ofglass and filling them with gases and like

(05:28):
the efficiency that comes with them andthey're there. It's a pretty darn amazing
when it comes to what we wereeven doing fifteen years ago, twenty years
ago, what you guys are ableto do now. The other really cool
thing about it is because they areso specialized, it does take when it
comes to installation in order to reallymaximize their efficiency. Having you guys at

(05:49):
Legacy Exteriors do that installation. Thatmakes a big difference too, because there's
some folks that'll say, oh,I bought this great, it's got this
high rating, and they just eithereither have cousin Bob do it, or
Uncle Jerry come over and they youknow, case of beer and they'll put
them in for you. Well, while they're doing it, they're not really
the windows may go in and whoknows how long they're gonna last, but
they're gonna go in. They're gonnaquote unquote meet the energy thing. But

(06:11):
the area around the windows, whatabout that? And I mean there's more
to there's more window replacement than justreplacing the glass. Yeah, I think
the glass is obviously a big partof it. Updating that but yeah,
when it comes to the install andtype of install, so are we doing
a replacement or are we doing afull frame new construction deal? So yeah,

(06:35):
if you're not installing it right,or I would say, let's start
one back measuring it right for thenew one. Yeah, because a lot
of times I've seen it get measuredway too small and now you're trying to
fill that void with something, ormaybe it's a measure too big and like

(06:57):
number one we were talking about, where they are too tight. Yeah,
and that makes it difficult for themto operate over time because our house,
you know, it expands and contracts, so you have to measure them right
to start. But yeah, wewhen it comes to installs and and making
that energy efficient. So let's saywe install a window, but we don't

(07:20):
we don't put the expansion foam insideit or a seal tape, and all
of a sudden we're like, well, I'm still feeling a draft in this
wall. Well, you know,it might come down to install and and
it sounds funny to say, butthat actually is a very common call,
you know there where somebody can't figureout why there's still is a draft.

(07:44):
Yeah, and it's coming, youknow, through their casing and their trim,
and it's because they weren't installed rightin the first place. I hear
that even on new homes, folks, they'll they'll get the you know,
we just bought our home, orit's a couple of years old, or
the second owners it's only you know, only ten years old, and they're
saying, what is going Everything looksfine, but when I put my hand
up next to the next to theglass, I feel cold. Yeah.
You guys go in there and youlook, you say, well, when

(08:05):
these things were originally installed, theynever If you don't do it, it
comes. It's like anything else.If you don't you can have the best
product in the world, but ifyou don't install it right the first time,
it doesn't matter. And uh,you know, I've gone in homes
where you can physically see like thecurtains moving because that's how much airflow they're

(08:28):
getting. And uh uh the idealof what we do is keeping the outside
out. Yes, right, sothat envelope makes sure weren't talking this morning
with Josh cow It's at Legacy Exteriors. The website Legacy dash exteriors dot com.
That's Legacy dash Exteriors dot com.Tell number six O eight two two

(08:48):
one three thousand. Today's a gretday to pick up phone. Gimme call
six eight two two one three thousand. Best products installed right by the folks
at Legacy Exteriors. What's the nextone for windows that when it comes to
and we get outdoor noise? Ohso yeah, so I think, uh
that one's probably maybe not what alot of people think at all. Yeah.

(09:11):
So if you're hearing you know, your traffic, your barking dogs,
whatever, you're you're hearing a lotof outdoor noise inside, new windows can
actually fix that problem. Really.Yes. So we I live in McFarland
and we have you know, kindof live closer to a train that happens

(09:33):
kind of nightly. Oh yes,so if you get if you upgrade your
windows to say a a quality windowin a say a triple pain, you're
not you're not really hearing that. But if you go to a lower quality
double pain, you're gonna really hearthat train whistle. So that I think

(09:56):
that might not be what a lotof people think about of accomplishing when it
comes to their new windows. LikeI want to eliminate you know, outside
outside noise. But I think dependingon where you live, that might be
relevant or important. What about youmentioned triple and double pain. Do we
ever see single pain anymore? LikeI'm guessing like maybe you've got like a

(10:16):
shatter something, but that's not evenreally it. Yeah, I think you
could, you could, it's outthere. Sure, I don't. I
don't know if a lot of peoplethink about using it for their house anymore.
Yeah, no, or shouldn't No, no, nor should they so
sound and that is as you whenyou mentioned that, it like kind of
like pop I've never thought about thatbefore, But you think about, you

(10:37):
know, having the having the rightthing. As we talk with Josh Gowitz
this morning of Legacy exteriors, allof the signs that you're probably in need
of an upgrade or window replacement.Of course, if you have questions whether
you think or you know, oryou got some suspicions, it's an important
day to have them checked out atyour house. Six O eight two two
one three thousand. Josh the teamat Legacy Exteriors love to take a look
again the telephon number six O eightto two two one three thousand. Yes,

(10:58):
if you're if your curtains and blindsare swaying in the wind on the
inside, when you've got your windowsclosed, there's probably something that Josh and
the guys team would love to takea look. And I would say,
if you've got to think about it, yeah, call yeah exactly. You
know, so if you're like maybemaybe it's time, yeah, you know.
One of the things too that Idon't know that it's brought up enough

(11:18):
about about and we'll get to thesethese other window ones. Kind of the
science is we always think about,of course energy bills, which are which
are huge and important. Thing wethink about comfort, which is huge.
You think of a furnace though, and furnaces are modern furnaces are very efficient.
They they're really especially if you've gotlike a nice new two stage or
whatever they call those just really efficient, really good. But if you have

(11:41):
like you know, bad windows oranything like that. That poor furnace that
turning on and turning off and firingup and then shutting down, that really
does a number over time on thatfurnace. And I haven't had knock on
wood and had to buy a furnaceyet at our house. I'm dreading if
the day that that because my assumptionis they're not very inexpensive there. Those

(12:03):
are quite expensive parts of your home. Yeah, they're not cheap. Yes,
Yeah, we had to replace ourour actually kind of all our mechanicals,
so we had to go through thatprocess. And yeah, they don't
they don't give it away, no, but yeah, you're right. I

(12:24):
mean, obviously everybody's looking for whenthey're updating their home, especially when it
comes to the stuff that we do. They want number one, they want
maintenance free, you know, andthey want energy efficiency. So and I
would say that goes for sighting, windows, roofing, anything we do.
That's the kind of the two numberone things that people are looking for.

(12:48):
Number five is pretty obvious. Okay, damaged windows. Okay, so foggy
windows is a big one. Soif you're seeing if it's if you're seeing
fog, that's a sign that yourwindows are the seal is broken and the

(13:09):
inside on the inside. So likesomewhere along the way, if you had
double pain windows, that gas hasescaped, okay, and you're gonna see
this in the winter time, Sodefinitely time because the windows are doing kind
of nothing as far as energy efficiencywise. If the gas is gone,
it's just class. At that point, you were telling me, probably about

(13:33):
the year ago, at this timewhen we had talked about windows in the
past, is just and I thinkpeople wonder about that is you were telling
me that the technology and the waythat they're built now is so much superior
to the at any time. Youknow, like those first generation, those
early generations, those double pain theyworked pretty well at first, but obviously

(13:54):
time will tell and some of themhave that that issue. Modern ones are
obviously with the knowledge and understanding. These modern double and triple pain windows are
just not only are they sealed, they're sealed for a lifetime. Yeah,
so we warrant our windows for alifetime. But the amount of options that
you have in windows that you don'tyou wouldn't think you should have, You're

(14:18):
right, yeah, so you canpick you know, start with your double
pain window but you can pick yourenergy efficiency, you know, your your
U factor rating. So there's alot of different options or levels I should
say, of that on how muchyou want that energy efficient window to be.

(14:41):
But then you can go up totriple pain. You can go in
that triple pain. You can actuallysay, you know what, I don't
want to have to deal with cleaningmy blinds anymore. Yeah, so I'm
going to put my blinds in betweenthe glass or shades you know they make
you physically blinds, or you know, shades in between the glass, so

(15:03):
you never have to mess with thator do that ever again. And then
it actually kind of opens up yourroom because you don't have to have them
on the outside of the window anymore. There's so many different options and even
gases themselves. So a lot ofpeople know LOWI and argon, that's a
very familiar term. But if youwant to step it up a notch,

(15:26):
you can go to a gas calledkrypton, which is a far denser gas
really and and it happens to bethe most energy efficient out there. So
but that also comes with a witha bigger price. Charg Yeah, there's
there's not just here's here's a windowand it comes with X, So just

(15:48):
about every single window line comes witha lot of different options. I think
people think of options as far asdo I want grids, what type of
grids do I want? What whathardware do I want? What color do
I want my window? But Idon't think a lot of people know that
there's a lot of different options whenit comes to just the glass itself.

(16:08):
That's part of the fun part aboutworking with you guys at Legacy Exteriors is
those options, different brands, differentstyles, different everything when it comes to
really making that project yours and ofcourse making your house look fantastic and perform
fantastic as well. Today's day pickupphone, give a call Legacy Exteriors,
say hello to Nikki six oh eighttwo two one three thousand. That's two
two one three thousand. The websiteLegacy Dash Exteriors dot com. That's Legacy

(16:33):
Dash Exteriors dot com. We'll talka little bit more on windows. We'll
do that with Josh next as Askthe Experts with Legacy Exteriors continues here on
thirteen ten Wuibi Ask the Experts Seckingout with Josh Gallis, owner of Legacy

(16:53):
Exteriors, telf number six sowaight twotwo one three thousand. That's two two
one three thousand. Probably not gonnaget windows under the tree this year,
but well it's not a bad thingthough. It's you talk about great,
get yourself something nice thinking about youtalked about earlier obviously about efficiency. They
look beautiful, they're easy to easyto maintain. Just something to think about

(17:15):
for as we get into the newyear. And one of the things too,
Josh, that's important right now isanybody that's seen anything when it comes
to interest rates, or anybody that'sgoing out done any type of shopping right
now, they know it's life isexpensive and finding ways to you know,
lower that lower that bottom line, finding ways to help the household budget.

(17:37):
Obviously, efficiency and cutting down andreducing energy energy costs are huge. The
problem is if you look around, you want to, you know, finance
these things. Money is expensive rightnow, very expensive right now to borrow.
And I was looking at the websiteand I saw I saw the zero
percent financing. I was going toask you, have you guys not gotten
around to changing matter. We're stilloffering it, so really yeah, and

(18:00):
I think, uh, obviously it'sbeen the best deal around for a long
time. Yeah, but I wouldsay right now, with the interest rates
being the way they are, thatis phenomenal. So if you're in the
market for you know, anything wedo, that is something that needs to

(18:21):
be taken advantage of. Yeah, for sure. I was just thinking you
were talking about windows and shopping andI was thinking in my head, I
wish my wife did more windows shopGoode instead of actual shopping good Yeah.
That's that's the cool thing about aswe talk with Josh Cowit's at Legacy Exteriors.
They can save your money, makeyour house look better, perform better,

(18:41):
convenience, all that stuff, andyou don't have to worry about breaking
the bank and you have to worryabout crazy interest right and that I mean
zero percent. You're not going tobeat that. All the details Legacy Dash
Exteriors dot Com at the website Legacydash Exteriors dot Com. More importantly,
if you've got questions about your home, anything on the outside and if you
can see it from the road,Josh and the team they are here to

(19:02):
take a look at it, getquestions. They'd love to help you out.
Six eight two two one three thousand. That's two two one three thousand,
and of course before we wrap upthis week, Josh, we started
out talking just about about windows. We haven't and I think it's a poor
just to mention doors. I knowwe've done done shows real quick about doors
pairs nicely with windows, don't they. I do. You've got to get

(19:22):
in your house and enjoy the windowssomehow. Yeah. I think a nice
front entry door or a patio doorcan go hand in hand. It's a
great time to start that conversation totalk about going hand in hand, getting
in, taking a look at allthe different options, and of course taking
a look at how new windows anddoors all that stuff would look on your
house. Pick up phone this morning, give them a call. Legacy Exteriors
