(00:10):
As the Dallas Cowboys quarterback one said, here we go. It's John Radigan
here and Nate Newton there in Atsome point in the next thirty to forty
five minutes, Nate's gonna get thatlook in his eye. Oh he's gonna
look at a camera and he's gonnasay, let me tell you something.
I'm telling you boys excited, radgo where you want today. Man,
I'm all over the place for mine. The NHL, the NBA, the

(00:33):
NFL, the Major League Baseball, two or four I can talk about fluently.
The other two of them have toaly on you, no problem because
it is man that we talked lasttime about how the month of April is
the busiest best month in sports ofthe year. But man, it continues
in May for fans of the DallasFort Worth area, and no doubt about

(00:53):
that. The Stars advanced in sevengames. The Mavericks just got rid of
the Clippers. Of course, theCowboys have a rookie camp this week,
and the Rangers have started to playa little bit more like the Rangers from
twenty twenty three. They've gotten backto like five or six games over five
hundred, so they're playing a littlebit better now, but let us look,

(01:14):
and we're going to touch on alot of that, but let's start
Nate with the Cowboys and that rookiecamp this week, all those draft picks
that we heard about and saw andall that stuff they're coming in this week.
Let me take you all the wayback to your rookie year. Ay,
did they even have a rookie camp? It was and rad. It

(01:38):
was physical, it was mental. It was hard pressing. It was three
practices a day. In some casesit was three to four days. You
literally had to tape your rids, tape your fingers. We're gonna have on
hail mins. It was brutal, man, it was brutal. I mean

(02:02):
now, it's all about mental. It's all about in the classroom. It's
all about making sure you know theplays. That was back when you can
have one hundred rookies, you know, along with the first year guys in
there, so you can have onehundred and ten guys running around and you
would have enough guys that position andarea position, and you would be competing

(02:25):
that thing. What you would startcompeting that day about where you know,
how the coach is looking at you, how you carry yourself and man the
training staff was running around with thehead cut off, trying to mend up
these little knicks and knacks that wehad. All Right, so you come

(02:46):
from a small school at that point, did you? But you're confident?
Man, Nate? Did you walkinto that environment with confidence? Or did
you walk in going, oh man, there's coach Landry over there, this
is the Cowboy. There's that guyfrom Auburn over there, and that guy
from you know, Alabama or whateverover I mean, how did you walk
into that? Do you remember?Yeah? Ermin wide eyed behind mentally,

(03:12):
definitely was behind mentally, not thatI couldn't comprehend, it's just had never
if you've never seen it before. And then people going one hundred miles an
hour. And I came into ateam that had just either went to the
NFC Championship game and I was WashingtonRedskins back then, and that team was

(03:32):
special, man, because, uh, this team was prepped and ready to
go. After that year I gotreleased, they went and won the Super
Bowl out down in Tampa, Ithink, so they this team was a
veteran team with coach Coach Gibbs andthe Hogs and these little smurfs, so
whatever, they was running around. It was jo. Thus they was ready

(03:54):
for man had rego on the offensiverunning back. So this team was primed
and ready to go, and Iwas behind. I was so mentally behind.
Physically I could deal, but mentallyI was so far behind. And
how how far along did you makeit before they did let you go?
The last cut? Coach Gibbs didnot want to cut me, but I

(04:18):
did not do the things that werecorrect and staying on that team. If
I would just show a little bitof discipline, a little bit of maturity,
I probably have been a Washington commander. And and but as things worked
out, God looks down on hiscowboys, and hey, I said,

(04:38):
yeah, and you got to theCowboys the next year. No. I
went to the US A veil fortwo years, two years okay, and
played there and had great success. And then a guy came along and I
folded us. I'm not gonna callhis name. He's one of your ex
presidents. I know, you knowing, we all knowing. Whether you love

(05:03):
them or hated, you're always doingsomething brouh. Yeah. So, uh,
what are these rookies in for anythingphysical at rookie camp? No,
they're not gonna get physical. They'renot gonna let them get like that.
And like I say, they're tryingto make sure that they're they're mentally up
on their plays, mentally knowing whatto do, so when the things become

(05:27):
physical, they can play as fastas they can play, you know,
within the rules of the the practiceuh times that you can have. It's
just gonna be about looking at guys'bodies, making sure you the trainers tap
into what uh ailments or what thingsthat they had on their records before they

(05:49):
were drafted to sign as free agents, you know, look into that a
little bit more to see what theycan find, if anything. And h
then you know, they have abunch of new guys, rookies that they're
gonna be just looking at a tryfor them. So it's gonna be about
just looking at guys bodies seeing ifthey what you thought they were uh And

(06:10):
then and then the mental part isreally what captures a coach. If you
could just stop regurgitating that stuff outon the field. But they're showing you
in the classroom and lining up inthe right place and running the right rot
right routes and stuff like that thatcan advance you too. Okay, so
in your day, you had thephysical aspect to allow you to separate yourself

(06:35):
from a lot of people. Right, you could be stronger, bigger,
faster, more energetic whatever these guysonly have. I mean, how do
they separate themselves just by being inthe right place when they take the right
practice understanding what the coaches want?Uh, draft picks automatically get uh they

(06:55):
get, they get first dabs. You know. You know, guidance gonna
be your left card, left tackle, what uh bb is gonna be your
center? You know? If draftpicks get first DIBs, you know,
I ain't put no free ation infront of you. I mean, it's
like a veteran walk in. Aveteran get first DIBs. It may not
last long, but that's that's who. That's who get first DIBs. So

(07:19):
uh, they'll they'll see. Youknow, let's say guiding is a little
slow and comprehending what's in the inthe in the classroom or the coach.
You know, Okay, I'm notto spend an extra time with this guy.
I might have to put him onthe field, you know. He
you know, it's it's multiple waysto learn, and you could write it
on the chalkboard, mount Mark stepknosk to it, and it was good

(07:42):
at that. You can write itdown, you know. And and Big
E was good at that once hewrote it down. Or you can take
it to the field. That's whereI was good at. Once I got
on the field, I walked throughit. Then I actually did it.
Then that's when I was confident, you know. So it's multiple ways you
can learn. And that is thecoach y'all to figure out, Okay,

(08:05):
I got a first round pick,left tacky, hell, I got a
third round pick center here, what'sthe quickest way that they learn? What
do I have to focus on toget this guy ready to be a player
and to be and to get sixtyfive per center of the snaps on my
team, on my offensive line.So each coach is gonna be looking at

(08:28):
each flayer, especially the draft picks, trying to figure out how do they
fit in. What's the quickest wayhe can learn and digest this system so
I can get him up and runningfor the team. All right, So
you mentioned there's just going to bea bunch of free agents there at virtually
every position. How do they separatethemselves? I imagine some of them are
going to come in full of youknow, fire and vinegar and all that

(08:50):
name, and they're going to tryto get noticed. There is there anything
they can do not being a draftpick at rookie camp where the coaches will
go, don't repeat the mistake tothe guys that go before you. That
is where Marquise Bell came in.And he had this pack down kid from
a Florida and m When I firstwatched him three years ago or two years

(09:11):
ago, I went out and Iwatched him. I say, Okay,
what's gonna separate Marquise Bell from therest of these guys. He saw where
a guy would miss step, hewould not take that step. When he
came up in line, he wasready. I was like, yeah,
this is what I want. Well, he would let two or three guys

(09:31):
always go before him, they messup. He ain't even gonna mess up.
He was a one time get itright guy. And then he remembered
that. He took it into thenext day and he built on that.
And so guy, when coaches seethat, like, okay, he can
learn from that, he can learnfrom us. Like a backup a great
the greatest backup quarterbacks and you're herecoaches and coaches are switched teams and are

(09:56):
bringing these type guys, guys thatcan mentally get it. They can do
mental reps. Wilson the receiver, remember him a couple of years ago and
I went to Miami. That iswhat coach McCarthy loved about him. He
could get no reps at the slotand come in and run all the slot
routes he get, you know. And so that is what gives a free

(10:20):
agent, a guy that's been draftedin the four field for six rounds,
because he'll see and he'll understand, and he'll do the extra work to make
sure that he understands what the playis and how to do it, what's
the proper steps to get it done? Now you were wide eyed, you
know for various reasons this group, and again, I know college game now

(10:43):
is so different. You know, they're not with metal lockers in a wooden
you know bench anymore, you know, like you were. But but will
they be even wide eyed walking intothat that you know, locker room at
the Star with you know, helmetclean and all that kind of stuff,
like an art room in there.A lot of guys come from pretty locker

(11:07):
rooms. They come from Grade Aprograms and even the smaller schools now the
HBCUs and all that. They havenice locker rooms, TVs. All.
You know, everybody got it.But you can never equal walking into the
Dallas Cowboys locker room. You cannever equal walking into the mystique of the

(11:28):
Kansas City Chiefs locker room. Youcan never equal going into the Green Bay
Packers and the lore and the andthe mystique of going into what because you
ain't it? You trying to beit. See, they can pay them
all the money they wanted Bama, they can pay them all the money they
wanted at Aubor, they can paythem all of the money they wanted Texas.

(11:52):
You ain't it. After four years, if you're not drafted in in
the NFL, we forget about you. Only the guys that go on to
the NFL will be remember in thattime slot. That's how they go.
Even then, like now you've gotthere, you've made it. You've got

(12:16):
to have success. And you know, certainly the one that comes to mind,
first year player Mazi, Right, yeah, he's got to be better
to be it. He's not ityet, right, yeah, yeah,
you see, And that's what Itell people the drawback to being a cowboy
is number one, the media, number two, the fans. That ruins

(12:43):
a lot of kids, you know, because the media don't come in and
ask you what are you going todo? Where they ask it, They
ask that question, what are yougoing to do to be a better player?
What are you going to do?Like the Ravens actually draft picks once
they come in ownership management and coachessay what do we need to do to

(13:09):
help you get better? They makeyou start thinking right away when you walk
in the door, oh my god, what do I need to this coach
asking me? So they can focuson what you need to do to get
better. A lot of times whenwe walk into as a first round pick,

(13:30):
Guidon, he got showlder Red Coppet. Nobody challenged him, Nobody say
hey man, what do we needto do? And I'm not saying the
coaches don't do that. I'm notin there. But before you know it,
if Guidon have a little success, then he's compared to Tyron Smith.

(13:52):
He's compared to this guy and thatguy and this guy. And he's only
played one or two seasons and nowthis guy becomes okay, he doesn't get
any better. See That is whathurts a lot of guys, not only
with the Cowboys, but other teams. Once your name get in lights,

(14:13):
once you get your brand established,do you get better? Do you take
the next steps? And that's whatI'm always so fearful of a guy coming
to the Cowboys. God going tothe University of Texas, guy going to
the University of Michigan, guy goingto the University of Florida. Things are
so baby caked for you and soalready put in place. Will you drive

(14:37):
yourself like this kid down in SanAntonio, the big rookie of the year.
You know you heard him say,I am so fortunate to be in
this position. Come on, man, nineteen years old, rookie of the
year, almost four block shots agame, nineteen points. This kid like,

(14:58):
I got a lot of work todo. You rarely have it here
a Dallas Cowboy players say I gota lot of work to do. Yeah.
Yeah. In some ways, that'sone of the criticisms. Right since
the times when you and your guyswere winning Super Bowls, it has in
some ways it's gotten so opulent andso beautiful and so luxurious around there.

(15:22):
It's almost like it's softer. Yes, and it's not. You can't say
this is the league now because whyis the Ravens so physical right as the
forty nine is so physical? Whycan Green Bay get physical? Why can
Kansas City Chiefs get physical? Whydo the Pittsburgh still is still base their

(15:43):
whole career, they whole uh Apart of their draft is this guy?
Can this guy mentally and physically gettough? And I'm not saying that the
Cowboy players cannot be that. Thatis why they brought Zim in there.
That is why they are drafting differentstyles of offensive line. That's why they
try to hope that Mazi wild beathis physical guy. That's why Zim drafted

(16:04):
a few guys at run first, guys at what big kid I was really
known about Auburn run stopping first, getting physical, getting mean, so when
times get hard, you can adjust. You mentioned Zim, That's the place
I wanted to go. You know, one of the few free agents they

(16:25):
signed was, of course his youknow, his former player, Eric Kendricks,
the linebacker, big strong linebacker, which you all also said they needed
even before they hired Zim at theend of last season. So and he
has you know, he's embracing it. Right. He's come out and said,
yeah, man, I am readyto teach all my teammates what Zim

(16:48):
expects because he said it. Hegoes, this is a complicated defense.
Now we remember Zim here. Weknow it's also physical, right, and
we know he's also old school. So what do you expect change wise from
this defense? Just to be whereyou're supposed to be. You know,

(17:08):
we wasn't a big defense last year. We were a defense that moved around,
or like we stunted we gained.I don't know. We didn't blitz
blitz a whole lot. But theybrought different people at different times. But
the defensive line was always moving, always stunting, always hitting gaps. Was
them may not do that as much, but he's gonna ask you to adjest

(17:33):
up front as a defensive line.As a linebacker situation. Uh uh.
Defensive backs have no other choice. But with all the motion in the game
today, they have no other choicebut to continue to move into into to
always making adjustments. But a lotof times fronts won't adjust. You know,
they'll do a slight movements move aguy from head up to outside to

(17:56):
inside. Uh. They may youknow, they may not get up and
move all the way around, youknow, like go from a three technique
outside the guard all the way overto the center. But them may ask
guys to do that periodically. Hejust wants you to be mentally ready to
play your gap, play your responsibility, whereas you may be frank freelance a

(18:22):
little bit more with Coach Quinn. He's not Coach Coach is not gonna allow
that. He's not going to allowthat until you prove to him that you
understand what his defense is about whereyou're supposed to be. And then when
you learn how to read the formationsof the offense and learn what the percentages
of what plays they run off ofthose formations, then he will allow you

(18:44):
to say, Okay, what didyou see here to make you shoot that
gap? And you better be readyto explain it because if not, he's
gonna tell you to play the damndefense. M Uh that starts from Michael
Parsons, you know. Uh,yeah, we go find out if you
are a team player. Uh isyou do you want to really win?

(19:07):
Or do you want to win?Uh? When you have good games or
when you have two and three sacks? Like I tell people, I love
Parsons to death as an athlete andwhat he's capable of doing. But this
kid has not reached his potential becauseyou know, your your twenty pass,

(19:30):
your twenty sacks don't impress me.That don't change enough games. But if
you become that run defender that Iknow you can be, brother, you
will be unlimited player. So uh. Eric Kendricks tells a funny story of
his rookie year. It was atraining camp and they're in, you know,
some sort of a play. Youknow, we're playing against eleven on

(19:52):
eleven right now, and he said, there was there was a defensive call
with the Vikings when Zim was thehead coach, you know, he was
his head coach. There's a defensivecall that they had was Caribou. Was
a nickname cariboo. And Eric getsout there. He says, man,
I blanked. I'm, you know, middle linebacker, so I'm calling it
and I say circus. You know, he said, I know it was

(20:12):
a C word. I couldn't rememberit, so I just said circus.
Zim blows the whistle, man stopsthe whole thing down. Practice goes silent,
and he goes, what the Fis? Right? You know,
embarrassed the kid. You know,he's like, oh man, coach,
I forgot. You can't forget, you know, like that's Zim. You

(20:32):
know, that's what we remember aboutZim. You See. The thing is
when you, as a player, expect to be coached and coached card Zim
is not a cuss guy to justcuss. He's not an mf guy just
to do that. But he isthat guy that, hey man, I

(20:53):
love you to death, but Ican't allow you to wreck this defense because
in turn, that ricks the teamif you're not going to be responsible and
do your job. See I tellpeople, the quicker you learn the defense
and the little nuances about the defense, the more the faster you can play,

(21:18):
the quicker your athletic ability can takeover. Now you can take that
calculated chance that that that game changingchance. But until you do that,
you gotta be disciplined. You gottaknow where everybody's at, especially the guys
that's playing to your side. Ifyou're the right defensive defensive end, you

(21:38):
gotta know what that tackle doing. You gotta kind of know what that outside
linebacker doing. You gotta know whatthat mike backer doing. You gotta kind
of know if that, if youif you in coordinated with a blitz with
your corner so you won't be inthe wrong gap. You gotta know and
and so you make those big mistakes, it costs you, especially in the
run game. You know, theback end is what it is. We

(22:02):
got a nice back in We justgot to saw up this front end,
especially at the linebacker position and inthe one technique over the center. Yep.
So is that is that aspect ofit? Needing to know what your
teammate is doing and where to expecthim to be. Is that what makes
this more complicated. That's the onlything. That's the only thing. Because

(22:25):
even though guys had responsibilities last year, they could they they took liberties.
They took liberties, and it hurt, especially when it came down to lockdown
and and and and dictate. Imean dictate to a team you're not gonna
run. You have another choice butto pass. You're not gonna run,

(22:48):
yep. And that is what Zimswent out and got. It's some guys
that could possibly stop to run.Uh uh. The linebacker from Nore to
Dame A Risks I came to announcehis last name. The cornerback, Yeah,
he went out and got guys thatcan stop the run. Is Justin

(23:11):
Rodgers from Auburn seventh round pick.He gonna he is them gonna get this
guy reps. If this guy comein and be a run stopping guy,
he gonna give him reps. Thething that hurt every guy that came in
was every guy eventually thought they weresack masters. You came in to stop

(23:37):
the run. Son. Now allof a sudden, everybody think they sack
masters. Because when you I'll giveyou a perfect example, Dirk. When
Dirk first got to two other Mavericksthree point mid range, Dirk was lighting
folks up at a little general gotfired. You know, the general got

(24:02):
fired. He forced Dirk to gointo the middle. He forced him to
do to post up and and andhe got fired. But when they made
that championship run, you get you. You didn't know where Dirt was gonna
line up. And when you don'tknow when your stars gonna line up,
that makes everybody else say man,Dirk kid now getting rebounds, Dirk,

(24:26):
he now posted up, Dirk gettingthe defensive rebound that made everybody else fall
in line. If your stars fallin line and do what is correct,
you know, everybody else has noother choice. Yeah, and all like
timber Wolves, Yeah yeah, andAvery New that's that's what you need with

(24:47):
the seven footer because he had playedon the championship team. Wouldn't no less
than David Robinson and Tim Duncan andSan Antonio, Right, I mean that's
how that's the Tim Duncan, yes, was the model of that position at
that day, right, But butDirk revolutionized it. Now these kids like
Wembin Yama who are out there, you know, you know, shooting the

(25:08):
three, bringing the ball up thefloor. Dirk was the first one who
extended that deal where the big manwould be out there shooting drinks. Yes,
and see even a kid in SanAntonio, even he block shots,
even he posts up the complete player. And when you had a complete player,
now you can really build your team. And that's what I'm And you'll

(25:30):
hear me say this, you know, and anybody watched my podcast, you
know, not my podcast, butour podcast. Let me tell you something.
I'm always be on Parsons because Idon't want this kid to leave about
of this league six years from now, seven years from now and not really
expose himself to a really MVP.The sack numbers are not going to do

(25:52):
it. But right he can getinterceptions, he can get fumble recovers,
he can call from I hate thekid from from the Steelers. I can't
think of his name right now.The Watts kid. This kid is a
different kid man. He can takeover games. Joey Bosas can take over
games. Sacks, hits for losses, fumble recoveries, calls, fumbles,

(26:18):
interception here and now. And thisis what the ability that Parsons have,
you know. But everybody gets socaught up in the sack numbers. But
what happens when the team say,Okay, we want to beat Dallas,
and we really want to beat Dallas, We're gonna run the ball. And
I hate to keep going back tothat. No, it's true. And

(26:40):
but again you know as well asI do, one of the reasons Michael
wants those sack numbers is because youget paid by sack numbers, Nate.
It's part of the business, isn'tit. I mean you, you know,
and the coaches are the ones thathave to make sure that you realize
there's more to it than this. But that's where that's the statistic that pays
on the defensive side of football.Yeah, it does. But would you

(27:03):
rather have uh seventeen sacks, fourinterceptions, twenty hits for losses? Uh
six former recoveries are just twenty sacksand that's it. Yeah. See because
now when you go to the coachand he said, well, we don't

(27:23):
know if we can pay if Parsonsget the coach. Uh huh, man,
this jew got me six fumbles,This do got me three interceptions and
plus fifteen sacks. Come on,man, yeah, here a complete player,
and he freed up he freed upthis other kid to get ten sacks.
Now, huh we need him?Well all he get his twenty Well,

(27:45):
come on, man, see coach, the coach, the old coach
for the New England Patriots used tomanufacture a lot of sacks for guys.
I mean he never had that twentysack guy, but he would manufacture a
lot of sacks. You know,if you just got guys willing to play
their role. But when you gota guy that can turn that ball over,

(28:10):
give you interceptions here and there, take over games, you know,
it's a different light, you know, And that's why I think Parsons got
that type of skill set. Butit's just does he want to exploit it?
And you know he's been early inhis career. Comparisons are always unfair,

(28:30):
but he's been compared somewhat to especiallythe way he burst outto the scene
to Lawrence Taylor. Now, youplayed against LT and you know he was
not just a sack guy. No, No, this dude can hurt you
so many different ways. You hadto always know where he was. Now

(28:52):
you have to always know where Parsonsat Parsons limited himself. He said,
I'm gonna be right over here onhis right side Russian every night. Then
I'm gonna go over to the left. And all we gotta do is just
say, uh, swing when heswing over there, just swing the protection
over there. Flip you flip overthere, We flip the protection. Lawrence
line up in the middle of thefield, Lawrence line up over the tackle,

(29:15):
Lawrence ca line up over the center. They they a little bit of
that. But Lawrence can also smashthe run, you know. And he
can also drop back in coverage, even though he didn't do that and letter
a part of his career he getsdropped back. You know, people always
think you hit it every time.If Lawrence ain't rushing. That's a positive,

(29:37):
not always not in his younger partof his career, because he could
get an interception. I think hetook one back ninety seven yards one time
for a TD. His kid waswhat his man, what's different? Boz
are like that? Man? Uh? They different? They they take over
games. They do what is necessary. Man, Watson is like that.

(30:00):
They take over the games. Theyget that ball on the ground and and
give and give you that ball back, you know. And I understand sacks
a lot of times leads. Theinterceptions are fumbles. But these other guys
are doing it. Yeah. Sure, all right, So let's talk a
little bit about this, uh,this NBA series. Mavericks still alive.

(30:22):
We've only seen one game last week. I was saying, I thought the
Maps might be able to beat thethunder as good as the Thunder of Ben.
Didn't look like it in game one, did it? Nate well?
And and let's let's let's get thisout of the way. The Mavericks are
notorious for losing game ones for somereason. True game ones. They Oh

(30:45):
man, they are notorious. Butthis ain't the Clippers. No, these
guys ain't gonna have a prep youknow. Uh. Kawhi came in and
just threw off the whole rhythm otherClippers. Then he left, Clippers fell
back in place, but it wastoo late. By that time, Kawhi

(31:07):
had found his legs. Uh,Luca was Luca. Luca really did a
match for job of kind of takinga step back or whether it was about
this, whether it was about hisknee, just the game plan of letting
Kawhi help him a little bit more. Kawhi is matured a little bit.
They worked, yes, Kyrie, thank you, sir, thank you,

(31:30):
because there was one. There wasone in the same guys for a many
Kyrie and Kawhi was one and thesame one was injury and the other one
was attitude. But anyway, Kyriehas matured like what he's doing. But
uh, defense has been the keyword for this NBA, this early NBA

(31:53):
playoffs. Everybody that has defense alongwith the offense, no offense along with
the defense. The New York Knicks, the Timberwolves, the Thunder those offensive
teams that plays great defense, thataverage great defense and they can turn it

(32:16):
on team wise, and they gotgreat point of attack defense, one on
one defense. So in this playoffs, the early buzzword has been defense,
when in the last time you've heardthat defense, it's been about high scoring
who can get the most threes off. Well, I think the difference in

(32:39):
this Thunder team is the fact thatthey will play defense, and they will
pressure you and they will keep comingat you. Yeah. I watched every
game and covered them of the Thundersseries with the Pelicans they were still on
Valley Sports, Oklahoma. Then theyplayed forty eight minutes of defense without a

(33:02):
lapse for four straight games, whichyou never see. I mean, they
even had a lapse in Game oneagainst the MAVs when the MAVs got all
the way back to within one afterit was about a ten point halftime lead.
You know, there were some lapsesdefensively there. Man, there were
none in that series against the Pelicans. So, but it'll be interesting to
see if they can sustain that defense. But that is the thing too.

(33:22):
And you know the old saying Nateoffense wins games, defense wins championships,
because you know that's and you've gotto take And all season all we heard
about the NBA ah man, nobodyplays any defense. And again I was
on the Thunder coverage over the courseof the year, and even then I
was like, well, the thunderplay a little defense, and now they've
just ramped it up because that's whatit takes to win in the playoffs.

(33:44):
Can the MAVs match that defensive intensity? You know? I listen to a
lot of shows because I try togain knowledge from guys that have done it,
Guys like yourself that goes out andresearches and talks to the proper people
to get the right information out tothe people. And what I've understood is
everybody's went through eighty two games ofpity pat foot pitty pat basketball. And

(34:09):
now in the first round, thedefense got a little tighter and the refs
swallowed the whistle a little bit more. Now in the second round, well,
ever since the All Star Game, the defense is the refs has been
tightened, you know, been youknow, letting the lose, the whistles
not blow as much. Now eachround it looked like it's getting a little
bit more physical. And teams thatcannot make that adjustment from regular season to

(34:36):
the first round to the second roundthey kind of suffering. I wonder what
the coaches are telling them. Imean, what is the timber was?
What is Denver coach. And youheard Denver coach man suck it up,
you know, quick crying. Imean you saw the kid marriage it,
throw towels, throw hot water bottles, hot water bags or whatever. Yeah,

(35:02):
you won't have none of that.Yeah. Last night you see you
see Luca get injured and doing thebreak. He goes, he tells the
trainer, I don't need you.He goes and get the official. Luke,
I love you, man. Lucawait is to get the official and
talk to official during the whole breakand because the defense is too suffocated.

(35:28):
I want to ask you this questionis do you like this type of basketball
or do you want the regular seasonbasketball or do you want this good,
hardcore, getting your face defense basketball? Which one do you desire? The
moment basketball? Yeah, you gotto remember my first thing in my career.

(35:49):
One of the first things I coveredin my career was the Bad Boys
Isaiah and Bill Lambier and Rick Mahorn, you know all those guys, man,
And that was a lockdown defense thatthey were holding folks to eighty in
the eighties in the seventies, right. I love this style of basketball.
I wish that the referees would letthem play it during the regular season.

(36:13):
So I'm a kid in the candystore this time of year, and I
thought it would gin. I meanagain, the Mavericks is as prolific as
their offense has been, especially inthe sixteen to two run at the end
of the year. You know, the thunder held them to ninety five points
in Game one. Come on,I just I don't understand. It's athletic

(36:36):
and as good as all of theseguys is the coach, the great coach
John Wooden said, offense is easy. Everybody wants to score, so people
work on it. He say, defense is a wheel, a mindset.
Yep. You know, if yourmind, if it don't matter, if
your mind, if it don't matterin your mind, you can do it.

(36:58):
But if it matters in your mind, Oh gotta exert myself a libit
this way to try to stop aguy from scoring instead of versus letting me
have the ball to score. Hey, you gotta you gotta make a decision.
These teams, the Mavericks, theDenver Nuggets, Uh, the Uh,

(37:20):
the Cavaliers, they gotta make uptheir mind. Yeah, they gotta
make up their mind because these otherteams are playing great defense along with their
offense. Nate, that's fantastic analysison the basketball too. Will you go
to the rookie camp? Oh yeah, I'll be there either Friday or Saturday.

(37:42):
Yes. I I want to seethese guys, and because I need
to talk to Zim and I needto talk to Mike Celerity just to see
where he's where they get what's theirmindset for these kids? You know,
I'd like you to go up upto Guiding and put the fear of God
into him and Cooper bebe as welltoo. Man, hold on, you're
telling me at six foot two anda half two hundred and sixty one pounds

(38:05):
to go up to six foot seven, three hundred and ten. I'm sixty
two years old. This man backhandme. I have to get a which,
get a walk again, and walkup to him and say, I'm
Nate Newton. I got three SuperBowl rings and I got two good knees.
Now, if three hundred and fortypounds I used to be, I
would get in his chest, butnow I got too surgically repaired. These

(38:27):
that's been. That's unless than eightweeks out. I'm staying away for the
kids. This young man would stillhe would show you respect, you go
tell him what needs to be done. They Oh, yeah, I'm sure
I'm gonna work on this camp.Hey, I will go out there with
coach Clara and work with these kidsbecause my leg hey, my knees will
be right. Man. But Isay, I love you, I love

(38:47):
you man. I love what Spenceis done and producing us early this morning.
I love you, rads man. We'll talk a little hockey and we're
talking a little baseball next time, because I would like to know, you
say, the Rangers over five, over five hundred and five games. Is
the Stars where they're at in this? Yeah, they lost in overtime Game

(39:07):
one, tough one. They lostat home in overtime. But like the
Mavericks, the Stars lost you know, game one of round one too,
and you know, hockey, man, it's just it's one bounce, you
know. But here's the only problemwith the Stars that real quick. They
got three goals in the first periodand never got another one. And Colorado
scored basically, you know, fourgoals after they had three. So anyway,

(39:30):
but it was a good game andwe will we'll talk more of that
next week, and we'll always talkcowboys. And let me tell you something
too. One we make yes, sir, let me tell you something.
We love you. Fans always comein. We got other shows that we
do. We covered the four majorsports and excuse me, and what excuse

(39:51):
me? We're the playmakers now right, yes, sir, Playmaker Network.
We go to the Playmaker Network withthe number one. We are coming.
We're up and eyes and just likethe thunder, just like the Timberwolves,
and just like my Boston Celtics babyyoung and up and comment. All right,
all right night, We'll see younext week, my brother. Thank
you, sir. Have a bestsay
