(00:10):
Hey, it's another edition of NateNewton and John Radigan together talking all kinds
of sports. There is so muchto talk about. It's a beautiful little
show that is inspired by what Natealways says when he gets serious and he
looks you right in the eye orin the camera in this case, and
he says, let me tell yousomething. It's a special let me take
(00:32):
a lot about somebody today, speciallyit's amazing. It's a lot going on,
which is never surprising and always surprisingNate. It's the Cowboys off season,
and there's always stuff to talk about, and we have a lot to
talk about. We're also going totalk about those Dallas Mavericks are headed to
the NBA Finals. Unbelievable. ButNate, unfortunately we have to start with
(00:54):
some bad news. You hit meup, called me early Monday to let
me know. The bad news isabout our friend Larry Allen. This is
just a shocking news. I'm sureeverybody's heard, but Larry was on a
vacation with his family in Mexico andat the age of fifty two, he
passed away in Mexico over the weekend. I mean, I know, Nate,
(01:15):
this hit the Cowboy World, theCowboy Nation hard, you know John.
I got a call early, atext early in the morning Monday,
and it said, Nate, haveyou heard? It was from RJ Choppy
from the fan, and I lookedat it and I just ignored it.
(01:37):
But then I said, nah,let me look into this. So I
hit Choppy back. I say,I hope it's not true, but I'm
checking on it. No more thanthirty minutes later, I got a call
from Miss Emily, you know, the lady that's over all Cowboy players' relations
And she said, Larry's passed. And I said, well, im any
(02:00):
details. You know, I don'tlike to go into people's family matters,
you know. She said, well, this is the details. This is
what we're putting out that Larry passedwhen Mexico own a deal. But she
told me that he was just talkingto his wife. He laid back,
was resting, going to go tosleep, and he never woke up.
(02:23):
And so I don't go any furtherthan that. That is what I'm gonna
believe. I'm not trying to figureout whether he had health problems or whether
this that and the other. Ileave that for the public consumption because Larry
was a good and great man,a good and great teammate, and his
(02:47):
family was always pleasant to me.So that's where I'm leaving that. But
it was a shocker because I thoughtLarry was maybe fifty five, fifty six,
and I was off by four orfive years. This kid fifty two,
I'm sixty two. I'm like,wow, Yeah, it's just it's
too young, and it's too gooda man, as you mentioned, And
(03:10):
what we'll spend a few minutes doing, not speculating about anything regarding his unfortunate
and untimely demise, but just rememberingour great memories of him. And you
know, for me, one ofthe things is that, like when I
think Larry, because he wasn't,you know, the most verbal guy in
the world, which isn't always greatfor media when you're holding the microphone and
(03:32):
asking him questions. But he wasalways happy to do anything you asked him
to do. And then any timeyou asked him a question, man,
it seemed like he just had asmile, a little giggle, a little
laugh. I mean, he wasjust a happy, happy, go lucky
man for a guy that was raisedand confident. I hope I got the
(03:52):
city right. This town. Right, Well, a guy who was raised
up on the streets, gang relateduh went to a little Sonoma State and
uh uh he had a piece aboutit. Man. Like you said,
he would Larry, what's up today? Man, He'll look at you that
old dip in the side of mouthand he'll higgly get put his thub in
(04:15):
his ear and he'll laugh. Andyou know, I'm doing all right,
I'm doing all right. But itwas something about when he got time to
play football, when he became timeto play football. And I have to
put Big E in that same category. When they they life was, it
was a different it was a differenthuman being. And so but like you
(04:38):
say, Larry always had that nicesmile, that great laugh and uh wow,
he's gone. Yeah. So goall the way back. You're you're
a veteran by the time that thatLarry gets drafted. Uh And and you
see this kid coming in out ofSonoma State, uh, you know,
and it wasn't even the first rounder. And so you you know, are
(05:00):
you like, what's your first memoryof seeing him as a you know,
on the field and sort of realizingwhoa, this cat's gonna be cooked.
I mean, and I'm glad we'rewe're doing our podcast, man, because
I can tell the story and Ihave to chop it up. When I
first saw this kid, I justlooked at him. I said, Wow,
(05:21):
he's a big man. Yeah,I mean, you don't know if
a guy athletic could not just byhim walking around. But he had a
good body built to him. Andso we go into training camp, or
we enter the mini camps, andyou know, we didn't have OTA's back.
There was just Jimmy. Jimmy theonly one had OTA's everybody else just
had regular mini camps. Jimmy hadthe only mandatory OTAs I ever knew about.
(05:45):
And so here we got this kidand he comes in second round pick
out of Sonoma and he is pastblocking and back then it wasn't no walk.
Thus everything was bloody. Thus,I mean you had to it going,
you had to compete. And soI saw this guy man and they
they body swatted him and think hewas at the right right tackle and the
(06:10):
guy went for an inside mood,so he body swatted it and kind of
knocked Larry off balance. Man.Larry popped back and got back on this
dude. I looked too, biggie, and I'm not gonna cuss profusely like
I did back then, but Isaid, damn, did you see that?
I said, somebody about to losetheir job. And I had to
(06:33):
pick up my game because I'm like, it ain't gonna be me. You
you had never seen and you haveto know what you're looking at to understand,
because there wasn't no fifteen reps thatthis kid did. It was one
rep, one play, and I'mlike, look at the balance. Look
(06:59):
at the balance on this dude.Man, Look at the explosion. For
you to be able to be outof line and to pop back and to
get yourself back, that's power, that's agility, that's explosion, all in
one movement. And I was like, my I'm like, you know how
many people have to work to getto that point. And this kid just
(07:20):
came out of a Noma stake beatingup all them small kids, you know,
because ain't nobody being at the NomaState. They are all by your
side, rat, They just gettingbeat up and drugged in the mud,
you know. And that was thequestion why he didn't go in the first
round. He's at Sonoma Stake,he's playing second and third tier players.
Can he be this type of guy, and Jimmy said, well, you
(07:41):
know, I'll take him. I'llsee can he be that type of guy?
Here we go and he becomes oneof the best ever, you know,
a Hall of Famer, so manyPro Bowls, so many trips,
all of it all he became.Maybe you know, you could put him
(08:03):
in the conversation with those guys whowould be in the you know, the
Mount rushmore of the best offensive linemanever with what he accomplished. And I
wonder you were talking about that SonomaState thing, that balance that you're talking
about Nate that's born in right,I mean, that's even at one of
the big schools, even the vauntedNick Saban whoever. They can't teach that,
(08:28):
can they? While you put thiscall fieldway better because I don't want
to not this call Field, letme say this right here. God give
certain people gifts. And I'm sayingthis and I'm meaning this, Well,
God gave Michael Jordan, no otherman has well. God gave Tom Brady,
(08:52):
no other man has well. Godgave Larry Allen, no other man
has. It's called Nick's level. There's great players, and then there's next
level and then those what I meanby next level. Everything about them breeds
the sport that they're in the competitivelevel. The athletic ability not only physically
(09:18):
but mentally, that takes over everythingbecause that makes people realize when you see
Larry Allen, you saying, thisdude is a football player. When you
see Tom Brady, this dude isa football player. When you see Michael
Jordan, everybody before and after, you're always judging him against those people.
(09:43):
It is five offensive linemen that Ivalue, and they can play in any
era. Right tackle, Jackie Slater, right guard, John Hannah Jackie Slater
with the Rams, John Hannah withthe New England Patriots, Mike Webster center
with Pittsburgh. Still is Larry Allenleft guard the Dallas Cowboys, Anthony Munial's
(10:03):
left tackle with the Cincinnati Bengals. They could play in any era because they
were mean, they were physical, they had the balance, they had the
explosion to play in any era.And hw big E would have been in
that if he wouldn't hit that wall. Yeah, not for the accident.
(10:24):
Yeah, yeah, it's amazing. And I remember were you there when there
was video? But I think itwas taken like by a Cowboys videographer of
him of Larry lifting. I thinkit was about six hundred pounds, seven
hundred plus. It was seven hundred, seven hundred plus. I felt like
(10:46):
it's like it's like the dudes inthe prison just lifting and not knowing what's
going on. When you in theprison, you just like, man,
I ain't counted, just put iton there. Yeah, that was yeah.
And I remember because when you putthat self one hundred and maybe seven
hundred and thirty or fifty pounds onthere, and they just had a guy
back there standing behind them. Isaid, hole, hole, I said,
(11:11):
because this slip, it's gonna killthis dude, because this slip off
his hands or something, he's gonnabreak his arm, it's gonna crush his
chair. I say, give metwo people on the side. I said,
Larry, I hate to stand oldkind of back behind you, kind
of over you with my bottom, but we is not gonna let this weight
fall on you. And he justlike he, you know, he just
(11:33):
just laugh. Man. We gotit up. Man, he hit that
thing boom. I mean, itwasn't no bounce. He just yeah.
And then what I remember our buddyRocket who used to do a show with
us too, he was there watchingand he dove over Larry. Larry's still
laying there on the bench. Rocketdives over. I'm gonna tell you,
(11:54):
man, he this dude stude wassomething. And like I tell people,
you know, everybody, and Ijust thank god that I played. Are
Like I watched Michael Jordan, Imet Michael Jordan, I watched him play.
(12:18):
I met Tom Brady. I knowTom Brady, I've talked to him,
I've watched him play. I knowLarry All and I've met Larry All
and he's now with us now,but I watched him play. They are
not great players, they are nextlevel. See these people that think they
know something, they don't know nextlevel because people give greatness and all of
(12:43):
these things a name and a definitionand they don't know what they're saying.
Like Mahomes his next level. Yeah, everybody else in the league is is
just quarterbacks. Because he has takenteams to the Super Bowl that had flaws.
(13:05):
Tom Brady has taken many New Englandteam to the Super Bowl that had
flaws. The only person that didn'thave flaws was Michael Jordan. Was once
his boys got ready, they didit. Scottie and all of those they
know they rolls, and they werehigh level at their roles. The same
with us with the Cowboys, wewere high level at our roles. So
(13:26):
but when you get a special player, their next level and when you look
at them, you know they representtheir sports to the highest. It's amazing
because especially those football players you mentioned, but I'm sure even Jordan when you
met him, Nate, they thosepeople you mentioned have such tremendous respect for
(13:52):
you too, right, I mean, and I get it you're not on
their level because they're that next level. Yes you're You're like they they don't
see you and go, yeah, you had a cute little career, they
said you. And you know you'rea three times super Bowl champion. You
were you know, you were aroad grader out there. I mean,
that's a that's got to be awonderful shit. Like I tell people,
(14:13):
you know, I was a roadgrader. I'm you. I moved with
humans for a living, but LarryAller moved to earth. Guys have always
given me my my, my,my flowers, man, and I appreciate
that. But I tell people there'shall of famers out there. I wouldn't
(14:35):
give two Nicholas for. And thenthere's Hall of Famers out there with Jake
Dion said they should have a differentroom because Dion should have a different room,
and Larry Allen should be in thatroom, and and and and and
uh and and Jackie Slater should bein that room. John Hannah, you
know, and I'm not gonna mentionthe guys that shouldn't be in that room,
(14:56):
but I'm telling you the guys Ithink should be in that room.
Johnny United should be in that room. You know what I'm saying. Emmitt
Smith should be in that room.Now. Nobody likes him it because he
wasn't flashy, he wasn't a BarrySantas type guy. But they do they
do do what he had to do. You know, it's a certain that
people should be in Yeah, I'lltell you this about Emmett too. And
(15:20):
I saw some video of Emmett,uh you know, just the last day
or two. You know, peoplecan say what they want about him,
and we knew him, you knewhim better than not yet, but I
know him it well. And man, he was crying, you know,
he got on camera and he wascrying about the loss of his buddy and
a guy who just you know, created so many holes for him and Larry
all tonalds bro tonalds Uh, yeah, Larry Allen Man, I mean people
(15:50):
you cannot And what makes it sosweet is he was a family man.
That what I tell you. Whenyou can say that a guy was a
great whatever in his sport and thetop three percent of his sport of all
(16:15):
times, and then you can sayhe was a family man, I just
would like to know that he wasa Christian too, and that that's just
what Nate wants. I'm not speakingfor no one else. That's just what
Nate prays for, you know.So I'm not Please, don't try to
come at me or d about mybelief, but that is what I hope
and pray for. Yeah, Ibelieve it too. I think he is
(16:38):
and was and he's in a betterplace, as we like to say,
and do believe. I will saythat last thing about Larry because we got
to move on to today's cowboys. But I wonder too because we both saw
it. You saw, you know, the hand in the ear and the
laugh and that you know, ifinfectious smile and laugh he had off the
field. And I know, andyou know better than me, he wasn't
(17:02):
like that. On there, andI wonder if some of that anger that
was bred by a difficult upbringing, right, he somehow channeled all of it
over there to that football field andobviously paid dividends to whooping grown men,
because you know it's one they togo out there compete, rad But can
(17:22):
you just a badger? Then I'lltell a quick story about Warren Sapp.
Warren Sapp, Uh, that's myhomeboy from from Popka, Florida. He
said, Uh. I went todo an interview at Tampa. This is
when I'm my earlier days, messaround with ESPN, the uh, the
National and so I'm in I'm inTampa and Warren called me, home boy,
(17:44):
home boy, Come on, Isaid, yeah, what's up?
One? What's up? Baby?Tell your boy Larry Allen when we played
him this year. He ain't facednothing like this. I looked at one
and said Warren, I said, homeboy. I said, Warren, you
want me to call Larry and tellLarry what you said? Homeboy? This,
(18:04):
I'm your homeboy, right, Isaid, yes, sir, do
what I asked you to do.I call larrys Hilarry Sap say he gonna
play you this year and you ain'tface nothing like this. You know what
happened, right, All he didwas started laughing. He started laughing,
(18:26):
and he said, okay, andthat's all he said. But my credit
to Warren Sapp who is a Hallof Famer. I saw him after the
season. He said, you callLarry Allen and tell him I ain't face
nothing like that in my life. That let me know how real Warren was.
(18:51):
Yeah, they give praises, man, and I call Larry. Larry
Warren say he ain't face nothing likeyou. And once again that guy was
a laughter. Yeah. Okay,Hey, hey, that's poking the bear.
Man. I always tell don't pokethe bear. Yeah, so you
know too, Hey, want totake us on a little higher right element
(19:17):
of surprise? Baby, come on, man, don't go up and there
say I'm gonna fight you. Man. Warren learned from that one, I
bet you. Yeah, he didn'ttaunt somebody after that. That's that's a
good story on heel after that becauseLarry Allen was the best in the game.
So yeah, everything after that wasdownhill. So warn probably everybody else's
death. Yeah, he knew whathe needed against Larry. He brought that
(19:38):
to everybody else. Yeah, yeah, so along those lines, now we
got this mini camp going on rightnow. Sir Micah comes to mini camp
and spoke and and you know, defended his position of getting ready in his
own way. And that's uh,something that a lot of the you know,
superstar type players are doing now.And it's a different generation. And
(20:00):
obviously none of this stuff would haveflown when Jimmy was around. Uh.
But the one thing that troubled mewhen I saw some of the comments from
Micah yesterday, Nate, were hesaid that he's only spoken about twenty words
uh to coach Zim. And andthen there's a quote from Michael where he
said, you know, other coacheskeep telling me, well, you know,
(20:22):
coach Zim likes it this way,and Micah said, but I like
it this way, and that thatconcerns me a little bit. Nate.
You you know, to me,it's not about Zim, It's not about
Michael. It's about the team andwinning. Coach as coach great players.
(20:47):
Coach Zim is coach great players, greater players than him. He coached Dion
Sanders next level, next level yep. So, but Zim has also coached
players way less than him. SoZim will find that that middle ground.
(21:07):
Uh My, my question has alwaysbeen since the day one that Michael walked
into here, into this uh tothe facilities and I and I and this
is my biggest fear. And you'llkeep hearing me saying how quick will the
brand crush these kids? And whatI mean by that the Dallas Cowboys star,
(21:30):
how big they become by how littlethey do. Micah has not accomplished
nothing compared to the other greats thathave played. His numbers say, one
thing is winning percentage playoffs because we'renot a regular season team. Playoffs have
(21:52):
not showed up. Late season notshowed up. So I'm hoping whatever Micah
is doing to better himself, itwill happen this year and he will be
that guy that takes that defense overthe top. I mean, I have
nothing against this kid. I thinkhe's a great athlete. I think he's
a great pass Russia. I thinkI think he has so much more to
(22:15):
offer if he was just truly severeddown and mature. Yeah. And as
a guy, you know, becausei'm you know, friends blessed, blessedly
with so many former players and players. Now I'm a players guy. I
side with the players and I getthis logic that Michael Micah also espoused yesterday,
(22:37):
which is basically, look, Iam doing what is best for me
so that my body will not breakdown during this season. He says.
You know, once my body doesbreak down, they're done with me.
So I want to do what Ithink is best to have me ready.
And that is you know this,Nate, And you've had a great relationship
(23:00):
with the Cowboys even after you leftand the whole thing. But the reality
of pro sports is, you know, if you can't do it anymore,
we'll see you later. Yeah.Yeah, And I have nothing against none
of that. I really don't.We need it. And if you're going
to portray that it's about you andit's about you and it's about you,
(23:22):
I have no problem with that.At least he's being honest, and that
is what we can't take in today'ssociety. Yeah, we ask for honesty,
we get honesty. But like Icontinue to say this, Michael has
so much more to give, right. The problem is do he want to
give it? Yeah? You know, And do you think, Michael,
(23:44):
I mean, make your money.I'll never begrudge you that, you know,
I never no matter what I thinkis best. I'll never begrudge your
man is money, you know.I just you know, everybody just thinks.
I mean, I listen to theNFL network, if I listened to
ESPN, I listened to and whenI hear another athlete begrudging somebody the money,
(24:07):
you know, for whatever reason, that that just don't seem right.
No, you know, so dowhat you got to do, Michael.
But I hope it gives us wins, you know, in the playoffs.
Yeah, And it feels like alongthose lines because you know Zim so well.
(24:27):
He is the kind of coach Ibelieve that can bring out that best.
That that the things you're talking about, right, the other things in
Micah that that he hasn't. Hegot the ability in accept balls. He
got the ability to cause a lotof sacks, I mean a lot of
fumbles. He got the ability tochange games, you know, not only
(24:49):
by sacking but by hitting running backsfor losses. And he's got he's the
complete package if he want to bethe complete pass get you. I mean
that that is the difference between thekid in Cleveland, h Garrett Miles.
Miles. Miles changes the game manthe Bowser Boys, they changed the game
(25:12):
that kid up there on the knockon their kid in Pittsburgh, the Watse
kid. If he stayed healthy, whoa, yeah, you canna add one
or two more wins because he'll changethe game. Yeah, and that's what
that's all I want for my goodbecause if you start changing the game,
man, you have a contract, and you have one back to back super
(25:32):
years of changing games, four orfive game, man, you get tap
that contract because he can be like, hey man, I ain't coming to
and they'd be like, well weget weird without Michael. Yeah yeah,
yeah, same changes. Yeah.So so speaking of contracts, the happiest
man, uh you know in uhin the in football yesterday might not have
might have been o CD lamb.Yeah yeah, yeah. What happened when
(25:56):
he saw the contract? Jefferson gout, He said, oh, yes,
yes. The the the difference is, I think is one has a team
of players around him that's not gettingpaid in Jefferson and this kid CD has
(26:18):
a guys that are getting paid.So they're gonna have to be very creative
to get him his money. Yeah, you know, because everybody see what
Michael's doing. Michael's trying to Michaelis doing a soft hold out he's letting
everybody know I want to get paid. So uh, Dak, if they
(26:40):
decide to pay him. Quarterbacks aregetting paid too much. Yeah, and
that's not begrudging nobody their money. But I just don't believe that you go
out, you know, people say, well, you don't want to be
without one, like Minnesota got ridof Kurt. You see what that liner
did. Ah, if you're gettingjudged, if you're getting to the playoffs
(27:04):
every year and you're not getting anyfurther, you need to the one person
that can take you over the hump, supposedly is your quarterback. This is
what they will find out about Buffalo'squarterback this year. He's at that stage.
And I it's like, is thiskid gonna get us some win us
some games that at the same point, Dak, is you're gonna win us
(27:29):
some playoff games? You know.So when you want to give a guy
sixty to fifty sixty million dollars andand and then you you home in the
first round, you know, becauseand see people say, no they may
get to the second round. Noyou don't. No, you don't you
(27:53):
win the first round, you losethe second round. They don't give you
no true is for losing the secondround. They just give you the trophy
for winning the first round, soyou don't advance. And that's what I
tell people. You a first timeat first round, you done. Yeah,
(28:14):
that's why I don't watch the NCAAs. I don't watch the first two
games of the NCAAAS. I waittill like the third round because now the
people that's really balling, that's who'sthere. That's the same with back in
the NBA. That first round I'llbe like, please, let's get this
overWe. You know, I'll belooking at TNT. I'll be like,
man Herves, send them guys fishing. I ain't watching that first round.
(28:36):
I'm like, forget that. Whenthat second round, come, oh,
basketball fen to be played now? They yeah, yeah, now too.
We're going to get to that injust a second. Just a little bit
more on this mini camp. Itis. It is a mandatory mini camp.
Yes, And they're saying, youknow that if c D misses all
(28:57):
three of the of the session, you know, cost him one hundred thousand
dollars. Dude's making seventeen million. Now, I don't think one hundred million
bothers him that much, does it. I'll be laughing every time, and
even on the other major's networks, they say, if they missed the whole
(29:17):
training camp, it's a million dollars. Okay, they just gave it to
eighty eight million dollars. Yeah,to sign eighty eight million dollars to sign,
and people like, well, youstill don't want to miss a million.
This dude gonna go by a watchare you car? I watch any
(29:38):
car? Four million dollars and heain't gonna drive the cabbo once a week,
maybe once a year. He ain'tgonna get to watch it on but
maybe twice a year. Come on, please yeah stop. Yeah. Yeah,
it's a different it's a different stratosphere. Yes, Now, if they're
(29:59):
trying to get that was from me, and you know, we know,
hey man, we are we finishedsell everything we own, but we don't
have yeah yeah, yeah, exactly. Yeah, you can't find me a
million, but but you know, yeah, so anyway, I always thought
that was funny. But all right, so that's that. Let's talk about
this, uh run in Dallas sports, you know time right now? Now
(30:19):
the Stars did get eliminated. Youhave the Rangers as the as the reigning
champs. And now I tell youwhat, Nate, These MAVs they got
a chance to pull this thing offagainst the Celtics, don't you think,
Uh huh, that's right. Iforgot you're a big Celtics guy. Stop.
Oh okay, So is that justthe fan Nate talking or do you
(30:41):
really think you don't got thumped upthere at Oklahoma? So now you riding.
I'm riding with the MAVs, damnright? And also, uh the
thunder we're a team too. Youlooked at you go. Man, that's
a lot of talent over there. Is that is that more than the what
the MAVs have? And I thinkit's the same with the Celtics. Right,
that's a lot of talents. That'sa lot of wins man, the
(31:03):
way Kyrie and Luca have have playedtogether. On your talk? Yeah,
can we talk? Can can youlook into your cameras? I look into
mind. Yes, it is fiveplayers in this league that, if paired
with the right guy and the organizationput three or four guys that loved their
(31:33):
roles, they cannot be beat.Let's start with Denver. Okay, and
I can't remember the two role playersthey had last year. I think one
of them was Green and when theygot rid of Green and they got rid
of this other guy that hurt theirbench. So with Yolkis and the other
(31:53):
kid, Murray, they had theyhad Jokis and they had Murray. Then
they had these these other guys comingoff the bench that were nice players.
They got rid of those guys, those to guys, and what crushed them
for this year is their bench. Now let's move to the Mavericks. You
(32:15):
have Luka Dunches, you have KyrieIrvin, and then you got a bunch
of guys that kind of look likeone another but has different talents, and
they are lighting it up whether theyare on the road are at home.
They are so comfortable. But thisengine is ran by Luca. This engine
(32:37):
is uh. This booster on theback of the train's Kyrie. So they
got the front end, in theback end, it's what's in the middle
that's that's crushing this thing. Becausewhen Luca alve they got this dude just
keep shooting these threes. When thingsneed to speed up, they get that
thing to the boost in the backand he pushed it a little bit harder
and that's Kyrie bruh. So nowyou got two. You got your front
(33:00):
end and your back in. Eventhough Luca can close games, you got
your front end and your back endand all them guys in the middle.
Come on, man that they aredangerous. Yes, they are dangerous.
And now we don't mess around herebecause the NBA want to take time and
(33:22):
sell all these products. Made memad because I need it for I need
it for this games to hurry upand be played. I hope they hope
he lost myself. I needed thesedays he be played. R Luca was
a little banged up. Yeah, yeah, that's right. And so the
NHL has a thing if their conferencefinals go. But like the NHL,
(33:45):
the Stanley Cup Finals could have startedtonight, which they will or on the
eighth, I think, right,if it went like seven games each year,
it's what the NBA should do.You got two quick series. One
was a sweep, one was sixgames. Start play. They should have
been playing them to play because thatgives my Celtics a chance. Sure of
(34:06):
course. Yeah, yeah, LucaLucas had an offseason. Now we're healthy.
My Celtics don't have that player.Tatum is a superstar, Brown is
a star, but they don't havethat ability to control games with their dribbling.
(34:31):
I've seen Luca dribble ten seconds twelveIt's crazy. Still find an open
man, yeah, and throw aseed. I mean, just throw a
pullet over there. And my guyswhen they're not whipping the ball round and
they go into the individual one onone deal and it ain't one minute left
(34:52):
in the game, a one minuteleft and a half. They fumbled the
ball a lot of times the chancethey I'm from the ball, but never
with Luca and Luca lebron bird magic, Isaiah. I'm talking about guys that
(35:12):
hound the ball at the end ofthe game. Those are unique guys.
Those are you. I don't havethat unique guy on my team. And
then the big fella, I mean, is he gonna really play? Is
he gonna be really effective? Soall right, let's say he does.
(35:34):
Let's say he does. And you'veseen more Celtics than me this year because
you're a fan. How much doesthat change this series? If they are
able to get a fully healthy Chrisstops porzingis in there, If we can
get a twenty minute Chris, becausehe changes shots, he plays a little
bit more defense, he can spreadthe court, and that gives Brown a
(35:54):
chance to do what he has todo, and that gives uh take them
a chance to be more of acomplete player. And now they whipped the
ball round just a littit more sohe can do it on both ends.
And if we can get him fifteenminutes, twenty minutes, we can beat
the MAVs. But if they letthis game be close, we can't let
(36:19):
them win on our court. Becausewhen these guys went on your court,
they turn into sharks. It's likeblood in the water. And Jason,
you see, this is what hurtsme the most about the Mavericks. They
don't understand how smart Jason kid is. I don't understand his ability to relate
(36:42):
to his players. They don't understand. I understand they don't, and that's
cool, that's cool because it's allabout players. But he remember the game
against the Thunder, the third orfourth game where they say, hey,
you know what, we need topick the temple up. We need to
pick the temple up and Luca deferredto Kyrie. Coach Carlisle could not get
(37:09):
Luca to do that. You couldn'tget Looking to do that for some reason.
No, you know, but theyhave. I'm telling you, this
is gonna be a good series, yea, where we have the true advantage.
And if these guys don't realize thisis we have to play all the
(37:31):
time defense, all the time, twenty four seven, fifteen days a week.
We have to play all defense.Don't worry whether our offense is working
or not. But if we playdefense all the time, we can get
these guys. But if we goout here trying to shoot with them,
(37:52):
trying to shoot with them, tryingto shoot with them, and I could
be wrong. I'm not no basketballsavant, but I'm saying from what I
see, we got to play allthe time defense. We got to make
Luca drivele the hole. What isin ninety seven feet? We got to
make him drive as soon as heget that ball on the inside. We
(38:13):
can't let him get to the topof the key and let him set a
pig. Once lu could get youbehind him, and he put his butt
in front of you. Lady,it's five on fourd then, so you
got to take him at at halfcourt and make them pick up higher and
to give you a chance to getback. You know, the bunch Collars
tried that, but it was toolate. The Timberwoods tried that in the
(38:36):
last game, but it was toolate. They was on fire. It
was charming the water and the shockswere eating bro, they were just feeding.
Man. There was a frenzy.Yeah, hey, so how long
have you been a Celtics fan?Ever since? I was probably about thirteen,
fourteen years Okay, all right,so this is going to make you
(38:57):
mad. I'm glad. I'm gladyou've been won that long. I want
to make you mad to finish ourshow up, because it's always good to
get Nate fired up. So ChandlerParsons, you know who, had a
minute here in Dallas. He washere and hurt half the time. He
has his show now, a talkshow, and he said that Luca is
already better than Bird. So youknow what he is Larry Bird. He
(39:22):
is Larry Bird. You think Lucais. But even if he is Nate,
he's a star. Yeah right,See, I don't work Parsons channel
only one one when when in theNBA Championship, right, Okay, he
has opinion. I would respect thatopinion. But he is Larry Bird.
(39:42):
He is a fat Larry Bird. He's Larry Bird. Yeah, Bro,
I mean what what Luca does isnot pretty. What Larry did wasn't pretty.
If you want prutty. If youwant prudy, you go to one
some other teams who got the slimguard and can run down. Now you
(40:04):
go to Guildred's. If you won'tpretty, go get guild to the Thunder.
Yeah yeah, you go get Guildred. But if you want efficiency and
effectiveness, you go get Fat LarryBird. He right there with the Marricks.
Yeah go get fat Boy. Yeahyeah, there's a little goals for
you. At the end of theshow. Nate has just put us in
(40:24):
touch with the Fat Larry Bird.Yes, sir, Larry Bird didn't lose
too damn much, so I gotmy money on the Fat Larry Bird.
Okay, you know what I'm saying. He was just baby. Hey,
fun as always, Nate. Ilove talking with you man. And uh
and we'll I know, we'll dothis again next time. Hey, God,
(40:45):
bless y'all. And I produce thisspencer bass and I got that's supposed
to be getting sponsors. Name isTom. Tom, get us some sponsors.
Thank you. Come on, man, come on too good. Let's go
