(01:07):
ten thirty join me and Mike McMahon, the former NFL quarterback,
as we talk all things Steelers. Come see us at
the Cigars International Bridge for the Store. We'll be filming
there at twelve noon Tuesday throughout the remainder of the season.
All right, as we get back into talking about this,
(01:32):
a couple observations again. Darius Slay He's too old. I
can't explain it to you enough. This Steelers secondary is
ranked towards the bottom of the league in stats. In fact,
your Steelers defense is ranked twenty twenty eighth in the league.
(01:58):
That ain't good, kids, just trying to find some variables.
Why Darius Slay is too old. He's been exposed. Joey
Porter JP two. Guess what year three he's been exposed.
He's a C plus, a C cornerback. He ain't no
(02:22):
Rod Woodson, he ain't ever gonna be no Mel Blunt. Okay,
Joey Porter the second is a C corner. I don't
know what coach taught him to grab on to a
wide receiver, no matter what, no matter what. Look, this
(02:45):
is his third year and again coming out of Penn
State is not like coming out of East Carolina. Pirates
are the West Michigan Wolverines or whatever they're called. He
faced top level competition at Penn State. You're seeing the
best that Joey Porter's ever gonna get. So when you
(03:10):
factor in Sleigh and Porter both being CEE average dbis
coupled with Patrick Queen, if you've been listening and watching
the show, Okay, I don't know how Patrick Queen made
(03:32):
the Pro Bowl down there in Baltimore. I'm clueless about
this guy. I've never seen an inside linebacker who doesn't
like to hit as much as him. They have him
listed as six foot two thirty two a eh, maybe
in cleats with all his pads on, but that doesn't matter.
(04:00):
I've never seen a inside linebacker that doesn't like to hit. Now,
look if he does get a full head up of steam,
because he is fast for a safety, for a safety,
for a safety, he's very fast. But I've seen him
literally stop in the hole and have running backs running
(04:23):
him over. He has no spatial awareness, situational awareness in
the past game. Situational awareness, what does that mean? Tank
it an inside linebacker. Some guys just have control. They've
watched enough tape. They know their opponent. They know if
(04:48):
that tight end is slanting across the middle and a
shallow route that certain times they're actually throwing a screen
to the running back to the left flats. There's a
feel to it. He knows that he can get off
that tight end and cover the flats immediately. He just
(05:10):
knows that in a situational down, that's what's gonna happen.
That the offense is actually not going to throw to
the tight end across the middle. They're gonna throw to
the flats on a screen because he watched the tape.
Patrick Queen only had one tackle against the Bengals, he
(05:30):
had three assists, four total. Does that sound like a
linebacker to you? Against the Browns, he had one tackle
and eight assists. Now, an assist on a tackle could
be really impactful, or could be there you got there
(05:53):
just as the other guy was taking him to the ground.
Assists are really wonky. Okay when you look aggregately over
the course of this season. Okay, he had a good
game against the Vikings. He was fired up for some reason.
Maybe he had a lot of guinness before the game.
(06:15):
Seahawks Game three tackles. So knowing Mike Tomlin has this
theory about I like little tiny smurf inside linebackers. Joe Sherbert,
remember him, Orange Sherbert, Dearren, Devin Bush, little wee little guy.
(06:37):
If you painted him blue, he'd look like a smurf.
We know Mike Tomlan gets these smurf sized inside linebackers
because it's a passing league and I need to have
guys that can run. As they told you. His pass
coverage stinks. Patrick Queen can't say it enough. The tape
(07:01):
is there. What I'm telling you about Queen is verifiable.
So when you're looking at the secondary, that's one of
the worst in the leagues. Darius Slay, you should have
left him where he was, Joey Porter. He's as good
(07:23):
as he's ever gonna get at a C plus cover corner,
and you better have strong health to safeties to help him.
Patrick Queen, he don't like to hit. He can't. He
stinks in past coverage. He has no situational awareness. Thank god,
(07:45):
you have Ramsey back there right now. Okay, this guy
in La Trobe was tearing it up. Tearing it up.
He's a freak of nature. If you didn't have I
have Ramsey out there right now, I'd be horrified to
see what was going on with this defense, they'd be
(08:08):
worse than what they are in the secondary. Okay, his
numbers are just as good as Patrick's Queens, as far
as tackles are considered, and he's not even playing inside linebacker.
(08:29):
Listed as a corner, Ramsey is definitely not a shutdown
man on man cover corner. With ten years in the league,
thirty one years of age. Okay, he's a free lancer.
He's as big as some lineman. Man, he's a big dude.
They only have him listed at six one, two eleven.
(08:51):
I'm not buying that. He's a big cat man. If
it wasn't for Jalen ramsey efforts throughout the course of
this season, it'd be worse, worse for your defense at
this point. Now, that's just covering the secondary. Joe Flacco
(09:15):
just lit him up for three forty two and three touchdowns.
This is a litmus test against this Packers team. And
mister Love, that's a good quarterback coming here. That's a
great quarterback. And considering that your Steelers had no pressure
against Flacco last week, none, none, Just let the old
(09:41):
man stand back there and throw rifles. It was a
thing of beauty. If you're a Cincinnati fan, they'll be
able to hang their hat on that performance for a
long time if you don't get this defense going this week.
(10:02):
And again, I'm hearing a lot of all while you
know the veterans haven't played together, They're gonna come along.
Sleigh and Ramsey. You know they haven't played with the
rest of the Steelers d bull Pucky, bull Pucky. What
week of the season are you in? And I'm throwing
(10:25):
OTA's into that. I'm throwing OTAs into that. And oh,
you know, they are got to figure each other. They're
not communicating. They ain't communicating. I've heard that one h
(10:46):
Josh Jacobs, running back now Cincinnati, who had no run
game to speak of prior to the Steelers game, thought
Walter Payton was running a couple of times last week.
Josh Jacobs for the Packers is a solid running back.
(11:08):
What's he gonna do? The Packers come also with one
of the best tight ends in the league and Tucker Carlson.
You got trouble in River City. I didn't even get
into the offense this week much. I'm gonna throw out
(11:31):
Aaron Rodgers now and talk about let him talk about
his matchup with his former team. All right, you're letting
the you're listening to, Let's talk Steelers with Tank Taantlinger
can barely talk there because I'm look, I don't think
your Steelers win this game. I don't If the Packers falter, maybe,
(11:56):
but I think a lot of people are gonna walk
out of that stadium at atter. Sure I have another
drink stadium in quiet despair on Sunday night. All right,
I'm tank, take care.
Speaker 3 (12:07):
Does it still feel any different playing a former team
that you spent eighteen years with? Again, it would feel
different if it was going back to Green Bay. But
I have a lot of love for the organization. But
you know, if we're playing Lambeau, that would be a
little different feeling for sure.
Speaker 2 (12:23):
What are your emotions?
Speaker 3 (12:24):
I mean this Sunday, just excited about the game of.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Those are you some of the guys And there's that
many guys left over there?
Speaker 3 (12:31):
When we may that many guys? Yeah, I don't know
many of the guys over the guys I talked to
and I was looking at my phone. I got a
text from the the photographer, Evan. I love the nutrition
is Adam hit me up yesterday. My longtime buddy Nate,
one of the trainers, hit me up Monday. So those
are I mean?
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I was with those.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Guys for the majority of the eighteen years, you know,
with Evan for about twelve to fifteen and Adam for
about the same and Nate for eighteen and some of
the equipment guys for a long time. Fleet you know, Brian,
the head trainer for all eighteen. So a lot of
great relationships over there. You've talked about the prestige of quote,
(13:12):
the Steelers organization from press.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Did you see similarities in the close.
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Fitness maybe of the Steelers organization when you were looking
at coming here and gage and start, there's similarities between
here in Green Bay that stood out to here to
mad dissimulate to you, Well, my team made an appellion
to me. But I was around Pittsburgh people in my
entire football career, starting with Mike McCarthy for thirteen years.
Mike's from Greenfield, you know, and his love for this
(13:38):
city and how he talked about it and playing you know,
playing with the dom Capers on the staff, and Darren
Perry and Kevin Green and Ben McAdoo in my room
and Frank Signetti and Luke Getzy, Alex vand felt you know,
a lot of people from this area. So I knew
a lot about it just from talking to those guys.
(14:00):
I knew what a great sports town it is, what
a great tradition the Steelers have, and that was definitely
a part of it. But like I said, Mike t
was was the first reason.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Kind of kind of on the same note as health specialism,
to play for too iconic franchises as you called them
when you first got here.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
Yeah, I mean there's there's only a few of those
kind of cornerstone franchise in the league. And Ackers obviously
been around for over one hundred years and Steelers been
around for a long time. We've got a great history.
It's a great sports town. We're at the hockey game
last night, so I see the score a goal and
