Hold up Steelers Station. It's tank for Let's Talk Stealers.
I wish I had some Irish music to play in
the background this week, because you're Pittsburgh Steelers are taking
on drum roll please. The Minnesota Vikings in Dublin, Ireland,
(01:10):
well this is historically correct, so you kid easy get
a little history lesson out there. You know them Norrismen Norrismen.
If you don't know the word, google it on your
old hand computer. There Norrismen are Vikings, yes, Vikings, and
(01:32):
the old Vikings up there from Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland.
They used to go down to Ireland, raid the coast
of Ireland and you know, village burn things. That's how
the Vikings of old the Norsemen got their kicks, burning
villages in Ireland night boys. My name's Dean Threine. I
(01:58):
got an idea, Yes, Dean, also known as wolf meat eater,
Let's go to Ireland and pillage the Vikings did that,
you know in eleven eleventh century, tenth century, twelfth century.
You know that's actually how Saint Patrick, you know, he
(02:19):
became a slave and they went and the Vikings grabbed
them and they said, come on, Pat, put the beer down,
put the whiskey down. O it's where Sarge you had
taken me. We're gonna take you to Spain. We're gonna
sell you make a few shekels. And eventually Saint Patrick
made it back to Ireland and he famously started Saint
(02:40):
Patrick's Day. Hey I'm Randy the Tank Tantling or you're
listening to history lessons with Tank. Now, this is let's
talk Stealers here every Saturday on Fox Sports Net Radio
Highheard Podcast. You can listen to me up in Iceland, Thailand,
wherever you have your feet up. It's a big week
(03:02):
for the Pittsburgh Steelers as they head over to Ireland.
The guys are already there. My friends, the journalism friends,
they're already there. I was just there in April with
our golf show Golfing Around. Really didn't have a desire
to go back do and didn't. If I was twenty
(03:24):
years younger, I would have put on the cape and nylons,
because if you remember, I was the voice of Steelerman
on Katieka Radio with my good buddy Rob Pratt many
many years ago. You know, if I could lose like
twenty pounds before we go on the air with our
TV show, Let's Talk Stealers twenty two the Point Television, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,
(03:53):
reaching close to what is it? I don't know, two
million households Ohio, West Virginia, PA. Mike mcmah and former
NFL quarterback who joins me on occasion here on the
radio show when he's not calling the offense for the
North Catholic Trojans high school team in Pittsburgh. Mike and
I will kick off the season. We do the last
(04:15):
part of the season and so excited this year. Our
locker room, our locker room is drum roll please, the
Cigars International store in Bridgeville where you can get a
nice cold beer, you can get something to eat, amongst
(04:35):
other things. Right, it's Cigars International, Bridgeville, very excited about that.
That's our locker room. We're already filmed with JT. Thomas
over there. We'll ramp up with doing a few social
media things at Cigars International. Check them out at Cigars
International dot com, dot com dot com. Trust me, kids,
(04:57):
this dot com thing going to take off. All right.
Back to your Steelers in Dublin, Ireland. We've got so
much to talk about. In the third segment, I'm gonna
get back to talking about the game in Dublin. For me,
it's a little bit different slant. Yeah, I wish I
(05:19):
was there. A lot of my friends are. We're at
Temple Bar. That's like Pittsburgh Southside Temple Bar in Dublin.
I'm here in Pittsburgh. Got a lot going on right now.
But in the third segment we're going to get into
a little bit more about the Ireland game. Talk about it,
(05:40):
but for now, I want to talk x's and o's.
All right, x's and o's, x's and o's. Do you
have a funny feeling in your gut like the rest
is Dealers Nation that we should be taking on the
(06:03):
Vikings this week? Well, we could easily be victor less
without victory. You barely got by the Jets.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Right last week up and Beantown, the Steelers defense made
a nobody nothing quarterback.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Do I need to harke him back to Blake Bortles
and the Jaguars back in the day when they came
here and the.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
Steelers like, hey, we got this string playoffs, we go
on it super but and Blake Bortles three for one
hundred and eight yards and Leonard Fournette ran right at
one hundred and two pound linebacker Sean Spence.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Steelers went up to Boston and aren't near lost to
a quarterback that the trillion dollar I'm you know, in
high inflation. This isn't even the million dollar defense. This
is a trillion dollar defense the Steelers supposedly have. You
should be walking into Oh did I forget to mention
(07:21):
the Seattle Sea chickens ruining your opener? You could be
owing three going in there against the Vikings, but barely
by the skin of your teeth. Did you beat the Jets?
(07:43):
Did you beat the bean eaters from Boston? The trillion
dollar defense we'll get to, but man, this aggravates me. Tank.
It's only football, It's entertainment. Look, man, I love football.
(08:08):
I've been. I'm talking like I'm still playing. I'm sixty,
you know, began playing when I was eight years old.
Worked for the NFL Players Association. Coached, was a guest
coach at my alba mater at La Trobe High School
this summer for one day, and I loved it. Had
those kids ready to run through a brick wall. I
(08:30):
love football. So this is hard to watch. So we'll
get to the trillion dollar defense in a bit. I
want to talk about your offense. Hear me loud, hear
me clear. Mike Tomlin has once again given you a
(09:02):
horrible offensive coordinator, not since Bruce arians left. Have your
I'm just gonna call him the Tomlins from now on. Okay,
in this segment, they're not the Steelers, They're the Tomblins.
(09:24):
Note the sarcasm. Mike Tomlin has once again given you
an offensive coordinator that doesn't know what he's doing. Why
do you think Arthur Smith didn't last in Atlanta? Arthur
(09:48):
Smith was the head coach of the Falcons. He was
also their offensive genius. So Mike Tomlin, again added to
his resume of idiocies, decides, you know who I want
for my off caensive coordinator. No, Mike, who's that? Because
(10:12):
you know Mike mac Canada stunk. Oh, turn the page.
We never talk about the path with the Tomlins. Can't
do it. I we don't live interfears. I only talk
about the Niles. Oh, you don't want to talk about
(10:32):
Randy Feekner, Todd Ailey mcnada. No, I'm Mike Tomlin. We're
turning the page, don't How dare you bring up the
layers of the younguns. That is my folly. In my
wizard mind, I have decided that the guy that got
(10:52):
fired by the Falcons, they're head coach, their offensive coordinator.
I will hire to be my offensive coordinator. I am
a genius. Well, Mike, what do you like about Arthur Smith?
(11:14):
What did you see when he was in Atlanta? Well,
I'm Mike Dunnan. I just want to tell you in
twenty twenty one, that genius with that beautiful mustache, he
looks like Dudley do right for you older who did
the whiplash or whatever guy's name was that you get,
(11:35):
that's what he looks like. In twenty twenty one, the
genius Arthur Smith took those Falcons to seven and ten.
Then he put his analytical mind at it. And in
twenty twenty two and he said, I'm gonna revamp this
Falcons team and we're going to succeed. And they went
seven and ten. Then Arthur Smith said, okay, you know
(11:57):
what this thing, this thing I got here with the Falcons,
I can fill. I'm a genius. My dad owns a
Wells Fargo or FedEx or I started out delivering packages
down the street. I'm a genius. And in twenty twenty three,
Arthur Smith took his genius an offensive coordinator mind into
(12:22):
that season and said, this is the year I've rebuilt.
And in twenty twenty three the Falcons went seven and ten,
twenty one, seven and ten, twenty two, seven and ten,
twenty three, seven and ten. Class it out your calculus
overall record twenty one in thirty, yeah, twenty one and thirty.
(12:45):
They run him out of Atlanta. Mike Tomlin says, that's
my man, that's my man. Well, Mike, how'd you come
to that conclusion? The same arithmetic that means math for
you idiots? Because we know Tomlin's an arrogance son of
(13:05):
a gun and likes to talk down to people. That's
a fancy word like my other fancy words arithmetics. For
you idiots, it means math. According to my math, seven
and ten, seven and ten seven and ten equals offensive genius.
It's the same galcule as I used to Randy Fiekner
(13:28):
in Matt Canada. Ahem, mcdunl and I have spoken. You
shall not question me so on this rant. Let me
close it out about Arthur Smith's You got his head
coaching record. You want to know what his offense did.
(13:54):
What's the same one you're seeing in Pittsburgh for now
one year and three games. In twenty twenty one, Arthur
Smith's offense ranked near the bottom of the league twenty
seventh thirty two teams, twenty seventh.
Speaker 5 (14:10):
You do the math, Yeah, twenty twenty two is the
same thing.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Twenty twenty three. Oh they had uh you know, they
bumped up the twenty six best offense in the league.
Arthur Smith doesn't know what the hell he's doing. All right,
(14:43):
I'm Tank Tannler. We got to take a commercial when
we come back. More Arthur Smith, more tomlin More trillion
dollar defense analysis. These guys are gonna give me a
heart attack. Go Tomlinske, look yesterday, do.
Speaker 6 (15:00):
I was asked about, you know, is he worried about
the hits you've been taking to sit here. It's been
pretty durable during his career, right, I loved it up.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Get the most exact quarterback history. But you've been, you know,
being able to play a lot.
Speaker 6 (15:12):
Of this way. Did you learned anything about how to
absorb that getting tackled by three pound dudes?
Speaker 7 (15:19):
I mean, nothing special. I mean I've broken a couple
of collar bones getting tackled before. I got tackled and
cracked my knee one time. But I mean just it's
just playing football, Aaron.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
What stands out to you about New England's defense so far?
That sets in oryo.
Speaker 7 (15:38):
But they got some new players and those guys are
playing well. Both their big acquisitions in the off season
ninety seven and two of them off to a good
start this season. It looks like a Rabel defense, you know,
the way they fly around different looks. They got aggressive
blitzing nature that they do, so they're they're playing good
on defense.
Speaker 8 (15:57):
I know you guys didn't start off with the touchdown
in this game, but you stot points and you've forgotten
points on both of the opening drives, and they did
both games so far, and what what are you guys
doing well, whether it be gameplay or anything like that,
specifically allowing them to m that's for you.
Speaker 2 (16:12):
Guys to freeze Poinson.
Speaker 7 (16:14):
I think it's good, good play calls from Art and
then we're just executing at a high level. We still
had a chance to get more on the first first possession,
you know, we had a chance down the sideline the
pat and installed on a make a both third down,
but Bos built us out and then a good kick.
But when when we go down seven nothing we get
(16:34):
the ball back. You know, we got to respond with
seven even up that game, keep the crowd in it,
and we had a chance to and didn't.
Speaker 2 (16:40):
From your perspective, what's kind of the next step that
you'd like to see in the running game going.
Speaker 7 (16:45):
Into this week ten plus yrhard runs. I think that's
what Pat wants to see. That's what Mike team wants
to see. That's what Art wants to see. You know,
our backs are slippery enough. We got to get them
up to the second level clean, so we just you know,
think just keep it in our amy points. You know,
it's not always on the line, it's sometimes you know,
(17:06):
the combination block sometimes the track, so we just got
to be perfect on our execution. If the track is
supposed to be a certain way of let's run that track,
we're supposed to get it. Capture an Amy points, captured
an Amy point, and then you know we've seen our
backs on second the secondary players. Has been a good
matchup for us.
Speaker 8 (17:23):
What have you learned about Jalen Warren just in the
time that you've gotten to known during the practice and
you know.
Speaker 9 (17:27):
In a couple of games. He's a quiet guy.
Speaker 7 (17:30):
He hasn't seen Point Break before, which was surprising considering
it's a surfing movie. Uh, he's probably seen North Shore.
I actually haven't asked him about that yet, but he's
kind of what I what I thought from Afar. You know,
I think the biggest competent I can give him is,
you know, when you're behind a four straight thousand yard rusher,
you're seen as a change up back, and you know
(17:54):
he's a guy who could be a number one back
on any team in the league. So really thankful for him.
I think that that he had the other day, it
was one of the greatest catch and runs I've seen.
You know, Donald Driver had a crazy one back in
two thousand and nine where a guy fell over his
back and he was drilled on the five yard line
somehow got in. But that catch and run and those
(18:14):
jukes that he made was was pretty incredible.
Speaker 4 (18:17):
Said Mike said yesterday that.
Speaker 6 (18:19):
He feels great about this offensive line.
Speaker 9 (18:21):
Do you share that sentiment?
Speaker 6 (18:23):
Do you want to see any improvement there?
Speaker 9 (18:26):
I forgot about the offensive. You're going to Foxborough? He's
been a quarter century nightmare for this organization. Oh have
you done at Foxborough?
Speaker 1 (18:34):
What are your thought?
Speaker 9 (18:39):
Well, I don't know that we've won. We lost there
a few times, so you're you're already here?
Speaker 6 (18:43):
I know to.
Speaker 7 (18:47):
Yeah, I mean we had a chance and we were
up five last year with like two minutes left and
they had a big, big pass.
Speaker 9 (18:55):
We were tied with him going in the fourth. Uh eighteen,
I believe.
Speaker 10 (19:00):
And then.
Speaker 1 (19:06):
Let's talk Stealers. It's kickoff time for the Cigar Internationals.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
Hey, welcome back to Let's Talk Stealers. I'm your host,
Randy the Tank Taantlinger. Thanks for listening to us on
the Art Podcast Network. That's right. If you're a Steelers
fan living in Antarctica, I appreciate it. If you're living
in Argentina, Iceland, crack out Poland. We actually have a
(20:06):
lot of Steelers fans in Poland. You know, Pittsburgh is
a melting pot of ethnicities, and Steelers Nation Black and
Gold is worldwide. However, the city of Dublin, Ireland. I
always remember, friends, Dublin is not Ireland. If you've ever been,
that will make sense to you. In the third segment,
(20:28):
we'll be getting into that Steelers versus the Norseman Vikings game.
That's a horn. It's a Viking horn, you morons. He
sounds like a moose. Don't do that, Tank, it's bo season.
You'll get a you'll get you'll get a bolt through
your chest. Watching these Tomlins. You know, I'm not calling
(20:49):
them the Steelers for this this show. They're called the Tomlins.
Moving forward, he'd love that one. He changing the name
to the Pittsburg Tomlins. But Steelers work so well for
so long. Yes, but it's the Pittsburgh Tomlins. Now a man,
They're gonna give me a heart attack. Not necessarily the players, Okay,
(21:13):
I just oh my gosh, we'll get to the trillion
dollar defense and they're underperformance. But in the last segment
I was on Arthur Smith hard because he sucks. I
can say that word sucks. What's the big thing with
(21:34):
the thing at the end sucks exclamation point? This guy stinks.
What don't you understand? Okay, I said it after last
year that Arthur Smith stinks. Fire him. Now you want
to hire an offensive coordinator. You already have him in
(21:55):
the house. You already have him in the house. You
haven't had since Bruce Arians left. The kind of offensive
coordinator you have in house right now? His name ain't
Arthur Smith either, who went got seven and ten, seven
(22:17):
and ten, seven and ten with the Falcons. His name
ain't not Canada, who don't even have a job coaching
junior pee wee football right now? Tank, Who is this
mystery offensive coordinator that the Pittsburgh Tomlins have. Oh, you
(22:41):
don't know, not since Bruce Arians have you had this
a mom of knowledge talent. See like, if you're a
veteran boxer, you've been in so many fights that man,
you know what's coming from the other fighter before even comes. Yeah,
(23:03):
left hook, uppercut, right cross. You watch film on him.
You know tendencies. You know if I'm gonna throw a
right uppercut, I gotta dip that right shoulder first. You
can't have it parallel to your other shoulder. If you're
trying to throw an uppercut, you gotta dip that right shoulder.
That's what a boxer knows. You have Arthur Smith's replacement.
(23:27):
Oh sure, you can keep paying Smith. Just tell him
to shut up, put him in the box, take the
headphones off of them, make them shave that stupid mustache.
Who wears a mustache in twenty twenty, I'm sorry if
anybody's wearing a mustache, I'm not a mustache guy. Wouldn't
look good on me, and it sure of hell don't
(23:48):
look good on Arthur Smith. Tank who's this mystery offensive coordinator?
The Pittsburgh Tomlins have not since Bruce Arian. If you
had this kind of knowledge and talent, his name is
(24:08):
future NFL Hall of Famer Super Bowl champion. Aaron Rogers,
Aaron Rodgers, let me say the name to you again,
Aaron Rogers. Aaron Rodgers has forgot more about offensive football
(24:36):
and probably defensive has forgotten more than Arthur Smith will
ever ever know. This has to end. You know, the
writing's already on the wall. There was a sense going
(24:57):
into this season that, you know, Mike Tomlin better put
up this. Leading the Pittsburgh Tomlins to another five hundred,
non losing, mediocre season. A lot of you people out
Darren Black and Gold Nation ain't getting happy with it,
(25:18):
ain't being happy with it.
Speaker 11 (25:22):
So the administrators down there with your Pittsburgh Steelers, some
of them got the name Rooney, some of them got
the name con.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Threw it all up against the wall going into this season,
didn't They threw it against the wall and said, let's
see what sticks. We are the Pittsburgh Tomlins. You easily
could be zero and three going into Dublin against the
(26:00):
Vikings this weekend. Hey, I'm Tank Tantleer, or you're listening,
let's talk Steelers for this week. I'm calling it the
Pittsburgh Tomlins. I'm sure in his mind he thinks that's
what they're called let's go through this roster with the
(26:20):
Steelers offense this year. Because Mike Tomlin don't like to
live in a past, don't ever bring up my past failures.
Matt Cannada, Randy Fiekner, who amongst you right now doesn't
think you know? And everybody went, why are you bringing
in John hu Smith? Why are you bringing him in?
(26:41):
We got mouth, we got Darnell Washington. I'll get to him.
John Smith is a weapon. This guy's an assolete?
Speaker 9 (26:51):
Is he not?
Speaker 2 (26:53):
What?
Speaker 12 (26:53):
Very little you've seen of him? Nine years in the
league sixty three to two, and he moves like lightning.
He'll catch whatever you want. Think of your tight end
core right now? Do you see Arthur Smith attacking the
(27:14):
middle of the field.
Speaker 2 (27:17):
How long you want to answer that. Let's do something
fun here. Let's grade this out. Is Arthur Smith seven
and ten, seven and ten, seven and ten with the
Falcons using his tight end weapons. Let's go through those weapons.
(27:40):
Pat Friarmouth, could you imagine if the Chiefs had friar
mouth right now? What he would look like? Yeah, stick
that near pipe and smoke it. Fiarmuth in a chief uniform.
(28:02):
Andy Reid would be losing his mind. He'd have two
incredible tight end weapons. One you just throw down the
middle and you throw it to him while he's looking
up at what's her name up in the box. I
love you too, slee Heart and Friarmouth catching anything you
throw to him and knocking people's teeth out. Andy Reid
(28:23):
would look that firemouth. Not Arthur Smith. No, no, not
Arthur Smith. John new Smith six three two point fifty
runs like a gazelle and we'll catch anything you want.
You brought him here for a reason. Nah, yeah, sure,
(28:46):
we've thrown it to him a couple of times, you know,
a couple of times. Why not? He had three receptions
against the Patriots, big time game, four catches against the
Sea Chickens Live against the Jets, and you almost lost
the game. So all right, where are you using him?
(29:08):
It's because it's because Arthur Smith won a Jananhu Smith.
Speaker 6 (29:11):
Here.
Speaker 2 (29:12):
You play the guys you like, right, Darnell Washington Matt Canada.
The idiot didn't know that Darnell was a good football player.
Matt Canada left him languish on a bench. He is
(29:33):
as big as a US field building. He will catch
anything you throw at him. Matt Canada left him on
the bench. Arthur Smith barely used him last year. Run
a post route. If Russell Wilson gets in trouble, he'll
(29:55):
find you. Now, Arthur Smith can't that tight endcore talent wise,
if you gave them to Andy Reid right now, they'd
be going back to Super Bowl. Arthur Smith's offensive ratings
(30:16):
with the Falcons once again, in the three seasons he
was there, the best he had him up to was
twenty sixth in the league. And this is who Mike
Tomlin chose to lead your offense last two seasons. Four
you're Pittsburgh Tomlins. I'm running out of time here, Jalen Warren,
(30:42):
let me ask you something. Did you know he was
talented the first time he picked up a ball a
couple of years ago. Not Matt Canada, not Arthur Smith
last year? All right, I gotta go to a break
before I have a heart attack. I'm Tank Tantlinger. You're
listening to Let's talk Steelers also for this show, we're
(31:03):
going at the Pittsburgh Tomlins, because that's sure that hell
looks like what this team has become. Not the Steelers,
the Tomlins.
Speaker 8 (31:14):
Just what are you looking forward?
Speaker 9 (31:15):
To.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
I'm looking forward to the plane ride. It's gonna be great.
It's gonna be a lot of fun, a lot of
time with some teammates that should be sleeping, but they're
probably up. But uh no, I think it's really cool
to go over to Ireland. And of course they started
being a lot as soon as I get over here.
(31:40):
But the culture, you know, the fans are nice. When
I came over in the offseason to go back have
a pint again us hopefully after, but everybody's very prideful
about being from Ireland and they're very excited for us
to come over there. No, sir, No, you can pregame
(32:02):
all you want, but I cannot. What what are your memories?
Speaker 3 (32:07):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (32:08):
I always like to talk about when I first got
drafted and uh he skyped me from Ireland, uh and
just welcomed me. You know, mister Rooney was one of
a kind.
Speaker 13 (32:21):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (32:22):
You know, he was the only person that could get
Casey in the plane with him and they've gone like
like a private flight together. And you know, hearing those
stories about mister Rooney, you know he was always just genuine,
authentic and cared about everybody. What memories do you have?
(32:44):
You previous it's all blur. I'm hopefully, hopefully this one's
a little bit more. There's a lot more pleasant thoughts,
and I can revert back to this and think, oh man,
it was a positive experience because that last one was
really rough. That was the last game I didn't start,
(33:04):
so I remember that that playing ride home was very rough. Yeah,
you know, Uh, we were oving for at the time
coming back, and then after that game I got the start,
but uh, there was a lot of emotions after that game.
(33:26):
I remember Adrian Peterson getting off a little bit. I
think we still had a chance to win at the end,
but they sacked us.
Speaker 1 (33:36):
This game.
Speaker 6 (33:40):
Guys, well, I think it starts having a guy like
Justin Jefferson, who you know, I think is probably the
top wide receiver in our game. Right now, there's nothing
you can't do.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
Uh.
Speaker 6 (33:51):
They got a really good solid running game. The offics.
The line likes lean forward and that you know, I
know JJ McCarthy's hurt, but Carson Wentz is in the slouch.
He knows what he's doing. They're getting Jordan Adison back.
Speaker 1 (34:04):
So on the office, let's talk stealers. It's kickoff time.
Put the cigar Internationals. Let's Talk Stealers show sponsored by
Cigars International. Stuff by your Bridgeville store today, Parking Chair Vodka,
(34:27):
Respect the Chair. It's a Pittsburgh thing, Forest Launching Camp,
Dround Cooks Forest Pa. Your Adventures starts here. Visit Canton,
Ohio Red Fox Winery and Lounge And let's talk stealers.
Speaker 10 (34:50):
In terms of their fourth down play and we weren't
successful enough. We had an opportunity to really seize control
of the game had we won some more of those,
particularly the one h that was on the long field.
But they kept some drives alive, they possessed the ball,
they minimized our opportunity to possess the ball in doing so,
and I think that made sledding tough for us at
(35:12):
different times of the game, particularly in the second half. Offensively,
we stalled ourselves out some We threw an interception I
think on the third player of the second half. We
went three and out after that on the next possession,
I think we got a holding call on possession in ten.
And when first and ten goes to first and twenty,
there's a high likelihood for three and out football. And
(35:34):
so you know, some of that popcorn lack of execution
or lack of detail and execution, along with their willingness
to go forward on possession down moments really really altered
the time of possession, and I think it kind of
affected us at times in terms of the way we'd
like to play. I thought we initially were running the
(35:54):
ball very well at the early stages of the game.
For example, I thought we had a tough time regaining
our rhythm because of some of the sequences and things
that I mentioned just a second ago.
Speaker 6 (36:04):
But you're living, you learn, man. We made the necessary
plays to win. Certainly.
Speaker 10 (36:10):
I love the way we're operating in the red area. Offensively,
we got to be one of the top teams in
the league in terms of red zone efficiency. You need
that you need to kick, You need to kick extra
points as opposed to field goals, And like the overall
trajectory of that. Were spreading the ball around to a
lot of people starting to really establish some personality things.
(36:31):
But I think a lot of people are as you
move from game three to game four, you're starting to
see some things and getting the feel for how to
the best divide the labor up in different circumstances. And
so there's some general collective growth in all three phases.
I thought we took a step forward in our kicking game.
Our kickoff team in particular, I thought was better than
(36:52):
it has been. We were consistently making stops inside the
thirty and you know, making them play on a longer
feel and winning the battle of of real estate in
that space. And we're getting some play from some young people.
I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Jack Sawyer, a
guy that that hadn't played a lot of special teams
prior to the National Football League. He was a defensive
(37:15):
end if you will, at Ohio State, and I think
he had three tackles and special teams last week. And
so we're getting some collective growth, we're getting some individual growth,
such as life this time of year, it's good to
do so and win at the same time, and so
certainly we hope to continue to do that this week.
From a health perspective, just giving you an update on
(37:36):
some guys you can characterize. Alex high Smith is out
this week with his ankle. Deshaun Elliott and Joey Porter
certainly have a chance. I just saw DeShawn working out
just a few minutes ago. We'll work those guys this
week and let the amount of their participation in the quality.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
Hey, welcome back to Let's Talk Steelers. I'm your host,
Ray the Tank, Tamtling or don't forget to watch our
TV show. Let's Talk Steelers with myself and former NFL
quarterback Mike McMahon on Pittsburgh's twenty two The Point Sundays
at ten thirty starting. I think it's Sunday, November two.
We do only do half the season. Mike's an offensive
(38:18):
coordinator for the Pittsburgh High School North Catholic Trojans team.
My nephew Joey Flitski leading leading the WPIL and passing. Hello,
Pat Nardoozy, joe Fulitski calling that'll never happen. There's another
guy that needs run out of Pittsburgh, Patardoozy. They don't
(38:39):
even get me started on that. And I'm a pitt Panther,
literally a Pitt Panther. Played left bench for the awesome
greatest defensive mind ever at pitt foge Fasio. I do
want to get to the game in Dublin, and I
have a different take than you do. I have a
different take than you do. Half Irish, I'm half Swiss.
(39:01):
I go to Ireland every April to golf. I really do,
I really really do. Maybe a different take on the
game against the Vikings. I just want to I was
going to get to the trillion dollar defense, but I'm
just I can't get off Arthur Smith's back because it's horrible.
(39:23):
Your Steelers could be marching into Dublin to take on
the Norsemen from Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (39:30):
That's big.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Viking opens up the game with that horn. I love
that wearing that horned helmet and a fur jaggle. It's
pretty good. Thank you, Tank, You're welcome. Tank. Let's get
back to the show. Tank, Sure, Tank, have a zip afy.
You know, when you start talking to yourself to a
(39:51):
third person, you got issues. I tell you who has issues.
It's your Pittsburgh Tomlins. Again, that's what I'm calling them
for this show, because this train wreck that is unfolding
in front of your eyes.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
So far.
Speaker 2 (40:08):
Look, I'm not saying they're not going to make the playoffs.
I'm not saying that this team, you know, can't pound
out twelve victories. It can't. It can it can? That
is if you fire Arthur Smith, send him up to
the box, make him shave off that Dudley Whiplasher who'd
(40:33):
have villain mustache was take his headphones off and give
them an ice cream Sunday, one for every quarter. Just
keep them away from the offense. Turn it over to
the best offensive coordinator you've had since Bruce Arians, Aaron Rodgers.
(40:54):
Aaron Rodgers, let me say it one more time so
it gets through your coke nuts skull, Mike Tomlin. Not
since Bruce Arians have you had an offensive coordinator this talented.
Weren't Randy Fekner, weren't Matt Canada. Certainly ain't Arthur Smith.
(41:15):
His name's Aaron Rodgers. Man, been there, done that. NFL
Hall of Famer, Super Bowl champion. Arthur Smith will never
know what Aaron Rodgers does, what he sees when he
reads a defense, what he knews, what he's been through.
(41:37):
Send Smith to the booth upstairs, Take the headphones on him,
off of him, let him, let him, let him, you know, coordinate.
FedEx shuttles up to Alaska while uh, Aaron Rodgers is
running this offense. I want to get back to the
depth chart. Okay, it's being wasted by Arthur Smith, wayted
(42:02):
by Arthur Smith. We just talked about the tight ends. Okay,
if you gave Pat Fryarmouth, John Smith, and Darnel Washington
to Andy Reid and the Rattlesnake Patrick Mahomes down there
in Kansas City, they would be back in a Super
Bowl this year. Argue against that Mouth, Smith Washington maybe
(42:30):
the best tight end corps in the league, not in
Arthur Smith's offense. Did you not know Jalen Mooren was talented?
Three years ago? Did you not know Jalen Moore was talented?
(42:52):
Did you not know he's explosive? By the way he's
in year four? Do you know what the average career
is for running Max? It ain't six, seven, eight, nine,
ten eleven and it's about three. You want to talk
about wasting talent? You knew it the second you saw
(43:13):
this guy hit the field a couple of years ago.
All I'm gonna say is this, that idiot Arthur Smith
didn't even use Jalen wore in that last year very
much incorrectly. Now, like everybody's like, oh my god, it's
this guy good. You didn't know that. You didn't know that.
(43:35):
You didn't know that DK Metcalf, DK Metcalf. This guy's
a beast man six four two thirty runs like the wind,
catches anything. He's a ball or he's a team player.
He gives everything. Seven years in the league. You were
(43:59):
three games in three games in the best you can
do with him. He looks stellar against the Jets, who sucks,
sucks suck with eighty three yards.
Speaker 13 (44:14):
You targeted him four times. That's twenty yard average. He's
picking up twenty yards average on four catches and you
ain't getting him the rock.
Speaker 2 (44:27):
Then against the Sea Chickens, you decide to target him
three times, three times. Against the Patriots, you get your
head out of your butt. If you're Arthur Smith and
you three targets, three targets, you have a great tight
(44:49):
end core. You have dk Metcalf, you have Jalen Warren.
Out of the backfield, this offense should be humming. Oh
one other little name on the depth chart because as
I told you before, yeah, Pittsburgh Steelers. In an attempt
(45:14):
to save Mike Tomlin's legacy for the Pittsburgh Tomlins. Hey,
you're listening to Let's talk Steelers. I'm Tank Taantlinger. iHeart
Fox Sports, NFL experienced twenty one years. Number eight Aaron
Rodgers Sky still has it? Is he fast? Yep? Is
(45:40):
he smart?
Speaker 1 (45:41):
Yep?
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Has he seen more than Arthur Smith is even conceived
of in his dreams?
Speaker 1 (45:47):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (45:49):
Watch do me a favor either, go back watch the
last three games tomorrow, this morning's already done, are being
played in Dublin. He's got a release that is unbelievable.
Wam wam wham, just like Danny Marino, not as good
as Marinos. You brought Aaron Rodgers here, DK Medcalf, John
(46:15):
hus Smith offensively because you're all in full hand poker man,
I call. All the chips are on the table. You
threw it up against the wall this season. You're all
in because we got to save Mike Tomlin's legacy improve
he's a genius. Randy Feekner, Matt Canada, and now Arthur Smith.
(46:51):
I can't say this enough. Arthur Smith stinks. This offense stinks.
I didn't even get into Broderick Jonesby and moved to
left tackle. I like Broderick. He's such a nice kid,
but he's a guard in this league. He is a guard.
(47:15):
He proved it last year out on the right side.
Now you got him on the blind side, protecting an
aging Aaron Rodgers Hall of Famer. That's Arthur Smith. That's
his final call. Sure, Pat Meyer, offensive line coach who
I like a lot, great guy. It's his decision. But
(47:37):
finally it is Arthur Smith and Tomlin's decision to say, oh,
he's doing a stellar job protecting the million dollar arm
in Aaron Rodgers. Wow, I didn't even get to talk
about Ireland this week. Ghost Dealers beat them Norseman over
(48:02):
the area in Dublin. I'm just beside myself about this
lack of offensive production. Didn't even get to talk about
the trillion dollar defense failing looks like a five dollars
Wooden Nickel. Right now, we'll see what they do against
the Vikings. I'm not optimistic. What the Vikings did the
(48:23):
only thing in favor. This is a home game for
the Steelers in Dublin. All right. Hey, I'm Randy the
tank Tatler. Or don't forget to stop by this Cigars
International store in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. Arthur Smith, I'm having nightmares
about this guy shaved that mustache.
