Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. It's a Monday morning, and it's Let's Talk
with Stephen Carter. This is Stephen Carter coming to you
from the iHeart Studios on WCCF fifteen eighty A and
one hundred point nine on your dial. Remember you can
take us anywhere with you and listen. If you go
to the i Art app, just plug it in for
the timeframe and listen to the show you want to.

(00:22):
Hopefully one of those will be Let's Talk with Stephen Carter.
Money's from eleven thirty to noon. You know, every day
is a gift and you wake up, you make your
day by the attitude you have when you get up
and walk out the door. So make it a good day.
Unwrap it today, do the best you can helping folks
out and with a smile and a thank you. And

(00:42):
let's talk about today and what's coming up and for
the morning meetings that go around with Rotary, from the
evening meetings and different things happening with Rotary and other
things happening in the community. So today we will talk
to you about what's going on about. First of all,
where we meet start today with Welling Park at Rotary

(01:04):
Club Roadary Club. So that Rotary Club is downtown Welling
Park and it meets on the second and fourth Wednesday
evenings from six to seven pm at the Capstan Financial
Consulting Offices in downtown Welling Park. So that's second and
fourth Wednesday, six to seven pm. And great speakers. We'll
be talking about one of those that just recently came

(01:26):
in to speak to the club a little later on
today in the show. But talk today about they meet there.
We know Charlotte Harboro Rotary meets at the I Hop
Rester At in Port Charlotte from seven thirty to eight
thirty on Tuesday mornings, and they always have some great
speakers and great things going on with that. So one

(01:47):
more time, tell you about what's coming up. It's coming
up actually on Saturday. This is the October twentieth show,
So October twenty fifth, twenty twenty five. We've been talking
about it finely here. It's coming up on the twenty fifth.
It's the Runner Walk. The Rounds for Nursing helps solve
the critical nursing shortage in Southwest Florida by attending or sponsoring,

(02:10):
make a donation if it perhaps if you'd like, or
you can walk or run in this five k and
it is going to be held at Centennial Park this Saturday.
And this registration, if you're not in already, begins at
seven am. The event begins at eight. It is sponsored
by the Rotor Club of Charlotte Harbor and the proceeds
will go to benefit scholarships to graduates of area high

(02:32):
schools who wish to pursue pursue their career in medical
or nursing careers. So you don't subjectly say you want
to be you know, an X ray attack or something.
You know, something else phlebotomus or whatever, and I think
that's what they call when they take blood, correct, So
you know one of those or something else in the

(02:55):
field or a nursing career, So you could qualify to
apply for a scholarship for one of those things. That's
what this money's being used for. And you can be
a sponsor if it's a little late to be a sponsor,
if you can make a donation, you can walk. It's
a great event. If you haven't signed up, go to
online www dot run sign up dot com and what

(03:17):
you want to do is select find a race and
enter run the rounds in the search box. That's run
the re realms in the search box and pulled up.
If not going out on Saturday morning, I'm sure they'll
still let you sign up on the morning if you
can run or you can walk, and they can get
your instered that way and get you taken care of it.
It's a great event and that's going to be at

(03:38):
Centennial Park and that Saturday. It's October twenty fifth of
twenty twenty five, So it's an annual event coming up.
And it's a great event to help help solve the
nursing crisis in Southwest Florida. And it's a small way
we can do to help them raise money to get
scholarships to help get people that can advance or get

(03:59):
into a nursing career. And this will help them every
little bit of help. So these nursing scholarships can certainly
help them. Remember, you know, if you get out there,
you can get it. If you get in and do
it the right way, get a T shirt, walk, have
some fun, meet some people, but you'll have a good time.
And that is the runner walked Around for Nursing at Saturday,
October twenty five, twenty twenty five. It's at Centennial Park.

(04:21):
You can be there at seven am, get registered at
eight o'clock it starts, So check that out and you'll
be ready to go. Good morning, you're on the air.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
Hello, Hello, good morning, Hey.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
You're calling in. Good buddy. What's going on? See IA
card insurance?

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Oh? Not a whole lot of doing your shots? Seeing
how you guys are doing is fine? Finday.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Well, I'm glad you could calling. Didn't know if you
could make the call in today. So what's going on
in insurance?

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Well, you know, this time of year, everyone should be
paying just the tropic you never know when they're gonna
wake up. But actually, when having more and more conversations
with people in regards to auto insurance with the uninsured
motors coverage, you know, we've talked about that before, but
there are always here to be questions when it comes

(05:15):
to that and how it affects you and how that
covers you because it is an optional coverage item, right.
And I was just actually meeting with Verson not too
long ago today that very complimentary when it came to
uninsured motors coverage. And do you know why he was

(05:36):
in an accident where that person left the scene, right,
Because that person left the scene. What does that mean
you don't have an insurance policy to try to go
after even if they had one, right, So that uninsured
motors coverage everyone just a automatically thin. So that's just
because someone doesn't have insurance, which, yes, that's the primary function.
If you get into that accident, that's not your fault

(05:58):
with someone who does not have insurance. It also covers
you if they don't have enough insurance.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
To fix you.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
But the other thing is that scenario that hit and run,
is that mystery driver, that mystery policy that that leaves
the scene of an accident. If you don't have undersured
votors coverage, you will potentially leave yourself open to where
that claim would not be covered because there's you know,
there's nothing there to collect off of your policy. That

(06:27):
uninsured motors coverage there and designed to provide coverage for
those types of scenarios. And so it's uh, you know
I was trying to call in today. I know you
said I didn't know if I was. And that's why.
Because I was meeting with this gentleman and because of
that undersured motors coverage, he was able to actually reconstruct
his life and put it back together because the person

(06:50):
that hit him did not have that coverage and it
was a big vehicle. It can't won't go into all
the details with it, but I cannot stress how important
that it is. Yes, it's optional, but you definitely want
to make sure that you have that on your policy
just in case you get into an accent with one
of the thirty percent of drivers that does not have

(07:12):
insurance or enough insurance to put you back together.

Speaker 1 (07:16):
You know, that's that's a key point too. It's a
real world experience happening. It happens all the time. It
does cost a little bit more, doesn't it, But not
that much. But you certainly are protected just in case,
because you got people out there that will take out
They probably take out insurance just enough to get insurance
to get their tag and titled. Then they may drop
it or not pay their payment. Is that and that's

(07:37):
kind of what happens sometimes, isn't it? Nick?

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Absolutely? And the other part of that too is undish
your motors is optional, but so is bodily injury protection.
So when you're talking about the people who go out
and buy a policy just to be able to get
onto the roadway, that doesn't necessarily mean that the policy
to get on the roadway requires them to have the

(08:01):
coverages to fix you, because it doesn't what ends up happening.
Because everyone knows about the state minimum amounts of coverage,
which is a dollar figure of ten twenty ten. But
when people don't realize is that until they chase the
law is officially Florida is only one of two estates
the entire country that does not require drivers to have

(08:22):
bodily injustury protection on their auto policy. So because of
that differential, if you don't have uninsure motors, then you
get into that accent with someone who does not have
bodily injury or other coverages on there, you're opening yourself
up to then you're gonna have to go after that
person civilly to try to recoup any type of cost

(08:42):
or coverage. So, yes, the undersure motors does cost you
extra because it is an optional coverage, but in the
long run is a very cheap option to throw onto
your policy versus spending thousands of dollars, you know, trying
to fix yourself through doctors and lawyers.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Absolutely, so that's a great thought, and you want to
make sure you plan ahead and if it I guess
the ultimate point is that it may cost you a
few hours more, but you really have to consider what
you will get for that. And that's that's a perfect
example with that, and that's greatly appreciated. Let's say if
somebody wants to get some inforation regarding that or whether

(09:21):
it be a home, auto or a business quote from you,
how can they do that?

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Well, they can give us a call nine four one
forty four four three four one, or they can go
on to our website CIASRQ dot com. Do you have
a request for quote or contact us for On there,
it also allows for them to upload any inspections that
they've had on their home and along with the declarations
pages from their current policies. And as soon as we

(09:49):
get that, we'll reach out and start doing an insurance
review looking at current options that are available, current pricing,
that type of thing, to make sure that you have
a policy that protect thanks you. You know, like I said,
we're one of two states that don't require people to
have enough insurance basically when they're on the roadways. So
we want to make sure people are covered and they're

(10:10):
making sure that they know what they have on their
auto policy. So if it's been a while, or you
took a policy out and you know that you don't
have that coverage item. The rates have come back down
for a lot of the companies, so it may be
worth that conversation again to see if you can have
that coverage added back on.

Speaker 1 (10:27):
Absolutely, okay, and I know you've had you're talking when
we were talking the other day about a lot of
golf carts and things come up, so maybe you'll talk
about that and expound on that a little more again
and on future shows and different things. So people to
make sure they have their questions answered regarding that and
other whether it be boats or what are recreational vehicles?

Speaker 2 (10:46):
All right, Absolutely, sounds good.

Speaker 1 (10:49):
All right, thanks for calling in, buddy. We're up against clock.
Have a great day. We'll talk to you next Monday.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
All right, Thank you, have a good one.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
Thanks Nick. All Right, So well, we got a little
time left here, so now let's go back in and
let's be talking about what we're going to be doing
for the rest of the show. And we're going to
talk about some great speakers that have taken place in
one of them that we had at Wellam Park just recently.
And he's a friend of the community and really a

(11:16):
great guy. And his name is Mike Dunn, and Mike
is the vice president and general manager of Florida Operations
for the Atlanta Braves and a really good guy, and
he came out to the club, was kind enough to
come out and be a speaker and talk about the
Braves facility, what they do, and some interesting things about it.
If you've never attended a game up at Cool Today Park,

(11:39):
it's where the Brave's playing Well And Park. If you
haven't checked it out and gone to a game, you
owe to yourself because it is a state of the
art facility. It's really very very nice and it has
much more than just the stadium, but they've got some
great practice fields. They actually grow their own turf up there.
They've got a complete rehab complex basically there for players.
If they're in between the miners and majors, they have

(12:03):
to come down and get rehabbed and get yourself back
and condition to play and so forth. That goes on
all the time. They actually have a boutique hotel there
with like one hundred and twenty for a hundred that
will hold one hundred and twenty people when they come in,
so players can stay there and then they can be
rehabb and go to work basically every day and getting

(12:25):
themselves back in shape and ready. And you know they do.
We talked about community development in the past for Rotor
what they do player development for the Braves when they
get a lot of the players they get several from
the Dominican Republic. They have actually have scouts that are
down there all the pretty much all the time. But

(12:47):
for the players that come in, you know, the young ones,
and a lot of them don't have a lot of
the basic understanding, a lot of the way things are
done here and so forth, or different things of that nature,
whether it be business wise, whether it be you know,
others know how to take care of you know, themselves

(13:08):
and different different other kind of things. You know, just
in getting along Uh to be a good player and
a good person and do it the Braves way. And
do you know, Big Uh a good person in the
community in which they are playing for the Braves, and
they don't like to trade their players the way. They
like to really keep them in the fold and develop them.

(13:29):
And I think that's why they have been so successful
over the years. So he did a great job explaining
about that and how they build those programs, and the
complex is really really very nice. Uh, and the with
the hotel and so forth there and Mike and his staff,
they and Christina they do uh, they do a great job.
So if you haven't been to a spring training game,
you owe it to yourself to go. One request I

(13:51):
didn't make, and I asked him, I really wish, you know,
all the years have been dinner. I really wish there
were more night games for spring training, and I know
there's a lot of people like me that would like
to see that. He even agreed even if we moved
if they moved the games up to say to a
three or four o'clock start instead of one, would help
a lot of people. Then you wouldn't be taking off

(14:12):
a good part of a day of if you're working,
you could go to a game, and that would really,
I think, help a lot And that'd be a great
thing for us if they could do that. But like
he said, they have to have a willing partner. You
have to have another one of the spring training teams
willing to do that, and I guess it's kind of
hard to do it, and they have some limits on
apparently during spring training and so forth. How many hours

(14:32):
they can be at the cotton, the players can be
at the complex and so forth, So there'd be some
logistics to work out. But I know i'd love to
see it. I don't know it's going to happen to
be great if they did in the future. And add
a little more. I think they have it's three or
four games that are night games. Nothing like a night
game at the ballpark. I think that's the coolest thing
to go.

Speaker 3 (14:53):
Say, oh yeah, definitely, And I was at one where
they had fireworks.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
That oh absolutely yeah. Or there could be a concert. Uh,
you know down here they'll have a concert. Or if
you go to you go to an old trot before
it got blown down for the rage. There was some
great concerts after the game. Never free uh so you
know they all do. But that's during the regular season.
But during spring training, but you can go down there,

(15:17):
they'll have concerts, so other things coming in. It's a
great facility. We did the one five k run up
there when it first opened and ran all through the
subdivisions and so forth and back, and then you ran
in the sign and then you finish up running around
the warning track, run everything and came across home plate
and that was the finish of the five K, so
that was kind of cool.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
I don't know what it is about the ballpark, but
for some reason, the beer tastes better and the hot
dogs tastes better.

Speaker 1 (15:43):
Always, always the hot dogs. You gotta have the hot dogs,
I tell you.

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
When it comes to the different things that are provided,
you know, you can have a lot of different things,
but I think for me that's the two best things.
You gotta have a hot dog and you gotta have
a beer and uh. But to sit back and enjoy
a day in the ballpark, I don't think there's anything
anything like that. It takes you back to being a
kid again, and it takes you back to, uh, thinking

(16:10):
about the good things that are out there. It's a
you know, yeah, it's a game. It's a lot of fun,
but it's also I you relax and enjoy and taken
you know, what life's all about, and it's a great,
great time. I think the one good thing they've done
is the clock, the pitch clock that they put in
a couple of years ago. Excuse me, I think that
has helped. It does speed the game up. I mean,

(16:32):
you can get done. You know, sibe into some games
where that you know they've gone into. So all the
braves at the old Fulton County Stadium, remember we were
up there the one night. So we go and it's
a Friday night. We have really good seats provided by
I'm still working with trip Away, great seats in the
box right on the third baseline because we had a
partnership with Delta and trip Away and that, and so

(16:53):
we got into that that the seats right down there.
So we're sitting down there, great seats. It's nothing to
nothing going attom of the ninth. Then it's getting really
late and it's like, you know, you're dragging. And this
thing went on for probably close to five hours. And
I'm a baseball fan, but everybody was like a little
warned by then. It's like we need to get this,
just get it done because then it gets a little tiring.

(17:15):
But it was a great game. Then a few others
like that. We had first game I ever went to
as a kid in Saint Louis. Bob Gibson was pitching.
I was a little bitty kidding, barely remember that, but
he was pitching, playing Cincinnati, nothing to nothing ninth inning,
so we get in the car to drive back and
drive back up to Fury from Saint Louis with like,

(17:36):
you know, like an hour and a half drive whatever,
and lo and behold he's got the got the radio
and it's tuned into the game, right were no. Sooner
we're on the bridge crossing over the Mississippi going back
into Illinois and they have a rally and they come
back and they win and the autom of the ninth
and we left because it was nothing. And oh that's right.

(17:57):
And Nick, guys still when I talk, we'll bus in,
chops will go to the game. He woh, wait, might
as well, Lewis, Hey, never know what's going to happen,
as you don't, and I hate to walk out and
leave when something like that could happen. It could be
something that's really pretty dramatic. You know, if you're hit
about thirty or forty points in a football gamer, you know,
something probably not going to come back with you a
baseball game in or No, it's like Aaron Judge hit

(18:21):
that homer the other day and saved him and they
keep him in the playoffs when he did that one
and it was like a three run shot and kept
him in so they could advance on. And you never
know about that, you know. I think, as he said,
he thought the ghost of Yankee Stadium in the monuments
out there were helping him steer that ball fair and
make sure he that home run went out.

Speaker 3 (18:40):
My parents took me, I think it was seventy seven
or seventy eight to Fort Lauderdale Yankee Stadium. Yeah, and
they were playing our team, which was the Pirates, and
I saw Willie Stargell, Oh wow. And I saw Reggie Jackson.

Speaker 1 (18:51):
There you go.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
That was awesome.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
So yeah, those days are cool with Backwood and gives him.
And I was a little kid and they were playing.
But you had Bob Gibson, you had Tim McCarver catching,
you had Kurt Fludge, Clint Bowyer, Dell Maxville. I mean,
the list went on and on and off for the
great players back in the day. And the playing against
all those guys back in the day in the Cincinnati

(19:14):
Bigger machine cranking it up back in you know, and
it was like pretty awesome stuff. And we were lucky
enough to see down here at Cool Today Park. When
Hank Aaron came in after it opened, he was signing
the one sweet there at the cool to best name
from Hank Aaron Sweepman. But he was sign there bregging,
bumping the Chipper Jones. I had Nick up there with

(19:35):
me in Atlanta at some games, and when we lived
up there and Chipper was coming up that first year
we were up there as a rookie and came out
and You're watching this kid play and looking at him
and telling Nicks, you bet left handed or left handed
or right handed and hit just as well from both
sides of the plate. Said you're looking like the next

(19:56):
Nicky Mint. I mean, he had a great career, great
third basement, tremendous talent. But those are the days too
for the Braves when you had you know, Tommy Glavin,
he had you know, all Schmoltzen, and that was my
era that I watched. Yeah, they were fantastic.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
And then I was a Cubs fan just because of
Harry Carey. I loved him. It was great.

Speaker 1 (20:19):
Where did Harry Carrey broadcast before the Cubs?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
Saint Louis there?

Speaker 1 (20:23):
You go. You know a lot of people don't know that.

Speaker 3 (20:25):
That's the first trivia question I've gotten right in a
lot very good.

Speaker 1 (20:29):
I told you a lot of people don't know that.
You said, oh no, exactly a dock today. He was
fantastic again, he really was. But actually, you know, he
got there was a traffic accident Saint Louis before he
went up to the Cubs, but he got hit by
a car in a street and got hurt pretty bad
down he uh but uh yeah, he was quite the

(20:51):
voice old Harry carry Is. You know, take me out
to the ball game.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
That's seventh time anybody loved baseball more than him.

Speaker 1 (20:58):
Maybe Bob Buker, but then maybe those They were the
classic voices of those wall no doubt about it. And
Scully was still doing it until he was like ninety.
You know, he was still calling games in eighty nine
or ninety for the Dodgers. I mean, that's amazing something Again,
it takes you back to the ballpark. And I greeted
this right at the day at the park, and it's like,

(21:20):
So that's some of the interesting things you can find
out and learn about if you go to a rotor meeting.
Rotary has a lot of different vocations, a lot of
different people coming in and a lot of different passions.
But it was a really interesting thing. So a marketing
on your calendar, check it out. Spring training is not
that for a while, right, you know. It's like Mike
was saying, it's like kind of unusual for him to

(21:40):
be able to go out and speak and do a
speaking engagement like that when it's October and normally where
are they They're usually in the playoffs. Unfortunately not this
year wasn't nor year for that. But next year they'll
be back. So that's the Atlanta Bridge. That's cool today, Park.
That was Mike done. We appreciate Mike coming out doing
a great job talking to us as always.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (22:02):
The Braves do a lot for the area and the community,
and we appreciate them and helping us out with rotary
much as we appreciate Capstan Financial Consulting for rowing the
well And Park Club. And when I say that, we
thank them and we appreciate them as being our host
venue for our meetings. It's a great location and their

(22:23):
offices up there in downtown Wellam Park. They do a
great job with that and they really accommodate us very
nicely there and we really really do appreciate that that
service above self for them, as we say, is what
is that for? Way? What is that?

Speaker 3 (22:36):
Oh? Man, and I love my coin is literally sitting
on my dresser in the blue pals. All right? Is
it the truth?

Speaker 1 (22:46):
Correct?

Speaker 3 (22:47):
Is it fair to all concerned? And I'm not this
might not be in order? But is it beneficial to
all concerned? And will it build goodwill and friendships?

Speaker 1 (22:59):
Flip those? Yeah, will be beneficial to the Is it
the truth? Is a fair talk? Concern will be well ild,
good and that will be beneficial. All concerned will be good. Yeah, right,
those are your four.

Speaker 3 (23:15):
Okay, we're getting there.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
Okay, you got it. Bring that coin with you and
have it.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
I'll try to remember.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
Please do that. So anyway, Rotary Park Rotary and the

to do, perhaps in the community to help with things,

(24:48):
some different activities and raise money and help help folks
and need out there. Everybody needs a hand up, so
we want you to lend a hand, do the best
you can. Thank you for listening. We'll talk to you
next Monday. Stephen Carter, have a great day.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
