Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, it's Monday. It's let's talk with Stephen Carter,
coming to you on iHeartRadio you CCF fifteen eighty and
one hundred point nine FM, coming to you every week
eleven thirty to noon. And we know that every day
is a gift, and I truly mean that every day
is a gift. Let's unwrap today's and see what it holds.
There's always something new and exciting with Rotary. Things happening
(00:22):
in the world. Ward ares sports, local community events that
are taking place, and folks that are out there doing
good things. Try to highlight all those type things, and
that's what it's all about. You know. The theme month
for Rotary in October is economic and community Developments and
that's you know, those are things that that's part of
the core to what we talk about when it comes
(00:43):
to why you want to join Rotary. Some of those
things that you talk about when it's you know, obviously friendship, fellowship, community,
personal growth development and all those things, but when you're
talking for the economic community development and also it's very
important for folks in your local community to learn about
(01:04):
their businesses, what they do, how they you know, are
helping folks. Obviously if your patron are a patron of
their business, that's that's a good thing too. But they're
out there, they're doing it to help people in the community.
Everybody's volunteering their time at Rotary to help with these causes,
whether it's the nursing walk that the Charlotte Harbor Rotor
(01:27):
Club is going to be doing, our golf tournament that
we recently did at Wallam Park at Rotor Club up
at Wallam Park that was September sixth. On that one,
we'll talk a little about some of those details, but
that's it in community development and those relationships. Going back
to as I mentioned on earlier shows about Paul Harris's
idea when we started roading, what it's all about and
(01:49):
why people want to volunteer and give their time to
do that. Find the passion, find that cause. You want
to be involved in a lot of different things, whether
it's a walk to raise money for nursing scholarships, whether
it's raising money to help the non as a nonprofit
to help the Northport Police Department m CAN nine unit,
which the golf tournament at Wellham Park at Rotory Club
(02:10):
was for, whether it is helping at the farmers' markets
and we do and give out information and talk to
people and different things of how we can help them
and things coming up of what you know, what the
clubs will be doing. You know, we have the holidays
not that far away coming up. You know we're not
talking in October here, so those are coming up. You know,
we'll be doing a turkey thing at Wellam Park at
(02:30):
Rotary Club where they do give away turkeys for needy families,
hoping to get a couple hundred outs this year. That's
coming up. Obviously, everybody will be ringing a bell for
Serviation Army. All those things coming up to. All our
clubes will be doing and helping in different other things
around the holidays. Plus great speakers that come in. Recently
(02:51):
had a very interesting speaker come in to a couple
of different ones for Wellam Park at Roatory Club and
the one was the Sila Freedom h nonprofit and that
is a nonprofit that helps educate people about human trafficking
for young girls. That is a real, real problem and
(03:13):
this is an organization that really helps him. So you
might want to check that out. Let's tick this call
on the line here this morning is that let me
guess the amazing Kartinsky will say that that is Nicholas Carter.
Is that Nick?
Speaker 2 (03:26):
Did you just call yourself the amazing Kosinski. I'm just
making sure I heard that correctly, because that's a new intro.
And yes, this.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Morning, Nick, it's before your time. It goes back to
Johnny Carson used to do Karnak and he would he
would do that and he'd act like he was, you know,
doing like Crescin used to as we used to you know,
you know Cresken. Right, we got to meet Cresken winning.
We had him perform at the Cultural Center a few
years and we had a great evening to about four
in the morning, said it, actually, where were we at
(03:54):
I Hop? I guess No, it was Well Perkins across
the street from I Hop after the show on a
Saturday night, and he kept talking. It was still four
o'clock in the morning, and he is agent me and
Nick and Amanda uh Seeger, who was the theater manager
for me back then. Uh. It was a very enlightening
e He was quite quite a guy. But let's move
on from the amazing Chrisken. I'm sure he's still probably
(04:17):
thinking about us right now, and he's he's up in heaven.
Let's talk about what's happening with you and insurance and
what's what's the thing going on now today being October
sixth Nick, what's going on?
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Well, you know, the last last time we spoke on
auto insurance and the rising cough, yes of auto repairs
and and the factors I go and with that, and
you know what I forgot to mention? What did I
forget to mention? The hurricane season? I forgot? Everyone still
remember that. Everyone that was circled, you know, putting it
(04:50):
on your phone calendar so that it pops up. Those
are just insurance guys to see that. But the reason
I bring that up is obviously the still a hurricane season,
and it does run until November thirtieth. Everyone always thinks,
you know, we hit October, we hit November. We're good.
You don't have to pay attention to anything anymore. It
has been a very weird season, to say the least
(05:12):
this year. So if you still have questions on your
home coverage, if you don't have home coverage, you know
that's been The surprising part is that a lot of
people moved down here over the last few years. And
I'll get to two things on that. But a lot
of people have moved down here over the last five
years or so and doing so, we had a lot
(05:33):
of people who came down and they just bought their
home in cash, or their condo and cash. And when
you do that, you don't have to have insurance. You
don't have a mortgage. You have a mortgage, you're required
to have it, right. So a lot of these cash buyers,
they do not. When they closed on the home, a
lot of them did not close with insurance coverage on
their property right. And so I bring that up because
(05:56):
if you've purchased a property over thirty forty five days,
depending on the company whether you've purchased that property, it
may have needed some work. You're fortunate enough if you
bought it in cash. We all understand that. But one
thing that people need to understand is when you purchase
that property and it's over that time period, you get
(06:16):
applied a no prior insurance sure charge. Okay, what basically
means is that you've purchased a very big asset, you
didn't put coverage on it right away. You've waited. Now
you're going to get a penalty applied for the first
year and then it will come off and whatnot going forward.
(06:37):
Plus then if you are one of those people that
purchased that property and you've got tagged with that no
prior insurance charge. The other thing though, too, is that
next year it might be beneficial to ask your agent
give us a call to take a look to see
if there's any additional options out there. And why do
I say that, Because you have had that lapse in coverage,
(07:00):
you are not eligible for every carrier, every company out there, right,
because there's some companies if you have the lapse, you're ineligible.
They don't want someone who's had no insurance history, right
because they don't know if you've had claims, if you
have prior damage, if you have any of those issues
going on as your house, because there's no reporting entity
(07:22):
that you've turned to claim into, there's no record of it.
So a lot of them have actually started not taking
people with no prior insurance coverage. So that's an important thing.
Not only are you going to pay a penalty that
first year, you also don't get access to all the
companies either, right, So that's what we try to stress
that to a user.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
That's a great point. So if they come down and
just they don't have to take it. They don't take it,
they're going to be penalized for that for not having it.
Or if let's say they're down here, they have it,
they decide they're not going to take it for a
year or two and they come back and what is it.
There's a timeframe thirty days, sixty days in between when
you're considered them to be too far past that point
(08:04):
where they'll get charged again if they had it and
dropped it.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Yeah, typically it's thirty days. That's the most. Average is
thirty days. There's actually some companies that if you haven't
had a lapse for fifteen days, you're not eligible, but
the typical is thirty Citizens will go for forty five days,
there's the longest one. So there are some options out
there when it comes to the no prior insurance aspect,
(08:29):
like saying, those may not be the best rates overall
for you, right because you are not eligible for them.
You're not even going to see their pricing correct because
you haven't had that coverage. And so it's really important
to make sure that you've protected your asset from the
very very beginning. I can't tell you how many phone
(08:49):
calls we get from people who are upset because there's
a searchcharge applied. It's a percentage base, so it's always
a little bit different depending on what company you go with.
It's not normally just a flat, you know, one hundred
dollars feet, it's not. It can be up into the
thousands of dollars for people, and.
Speaker 1 (09:05):
That's it's a percentage of it, and that's a fee
that the agent has nothing to do with that comes
from the company. Correct.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
Correct, absolutely, and we see it a lot of times
with the manufactured units, the mobile homes. A lot of
those are cash deals typically, and they get purchased and
then some need to be fixed up right, So people
buy them because they can't pass the inspections. They'll fix
them and then thirty forty five, sixty and in some
(09:34):
cases a year later from when people have purchased the property,
they go to get insurance on them. You're going to
have that feet, So your real estate agent and other
people they don't know insurance like insurance agents do. Right,
we don't know real estate.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Like estate agents.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Do they stay in our lane? They should stay in there.
When I say that, if you're purchasing a property, call
that insurance agent all us. We can do a review.
You can get an actual remember what your insurance is
looking like. You can give us call nine four one
four four three four one, or you can go on
to our website CIA s r Q dot com to
put in a contact us form and we can definitely
(10:11):
take a look at it. So looking at buying a
property in cash.
Speaker 1 (10:15):
Okay, we're against the clock, Bud, all right, okay, thank
you that give you a call nine four one for it,
four four three four one. Thank you. Nick. We'll listen
to you and talk to you again on next Monday,
right here, all right, have a great day.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
Sounds great, great, Thank you.
Speaker 1 (10:29):
That was C Card Insurance and Nick giving us some
information regarding insurance. Talking about some things. But let's go
now to a quote for two day for you. That
would be Zayner. Oh boy, are you ready?
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (10:43):
All right? The quote today is this action springs not
from thought, but from a readiness for responsibility.
Speaker 3 (10:54):
So again we're talking muscle memory. We're talking Hey, I
know I've got to do this. I'm going to do it.
I'm not going to think about it. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (11:04):
That's who did it. I don't know no. Actually that quote,
that quote was action springs not from thought but from
a readiness for responsibility. That was from Dietrich Bonhoffer, and
I have.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
Not heard of that person. Just to take a look
at the scoreboard here, Yeah, since January when the show began,
I've gotten one.
Speaker 1 (11:25):
Right now, we're going to put that on a big
screen there. But all right, no, so that was today's quote,
and we appreciate that it didn't stick you with the
four way test because I didn't want to fluster you
up too much. There. Okay, let's go on here, we're
talking about some of the great things. Let's mention you know,
this is October sixth the Runner walk for nursing that
(11:48):
the Charlotte Harbor Roder is doing it. I want to
certainly give out a shot for that. That's coming up
October twenty fifth, twenty five, and that's going to be
at Centennial Park, report Charlotte. The registration that morning would
start at seven and the walk starts at eight. It's
straise money for nursing scholarships. You can go to run
sign up dot com and get that taking care of
(12:08):
www dot run sign up dot com. Do it today Saturday,
October twenty fifth. That's coming up real soon. You'll have
a good time. You help raise money for nursing scholarships.
And if you would have signed up acts Ober one,
you would have gotten a free T shirt, but you've
already missed that because today's October six, unfortunately, but there's
still you can get a shirt there and I think
that'll come with with your sign up, So to go
(12:31):
check it out, depending what you're doing. If it's a
time run, time walk, however you're doing it, go to
www dot run sign up dot com and you'll be
raising money to help the Rotary Club of Charlotte Harbor
raise money for the Rounds for Walking, which is for
nursing scholarships. It's a run or a walk. It's a
great event. The five k can run, you can walk
(12:52):
and have a good time help raise money that help
the young kids will be getting some scholarships for nursing
going off the college, so sign up for that. Some
of their sponsors for that are Florida Golf Coast University,
Charlotte County, Ford and Kia Port Charlotte. Also, they'll be
at starting at the Farmers Market. They started on October fourth,
(13:12):
so every month. They're going to be out there exhibiting
stuff that they'll be doing at Charlotte Harbor Roadery, just
like the well In Park Roadary Club, and they're in
downtown Wall Park on Sundays to do the Farmers Market
up there. Actually October fifth we started. We've been doing
that all year long, just they're just going to be
starting here for Charlotte Hard Road We've been doing it
(13:33):
up at Wellam Park, Nick and I was up you know,
we were up there October fifth. Cover now, so you
can always go and check it out and see what's
happening and hear about different things going on at either club.
The Charlotte Harbor Roader Club meets at i Hoop Restaurant
Tuesday morning, seven thirty d eight thirty writer here in
Port Charlotte. Great speakers. If you need information, want to go,
(13:55):
want to hear about Roadery aside from what we're talking
about here, all the things we talk about here. Go
check out the meeting. You can go to their website
at charlotteheb Roadary dot com, Facebook, Charlotte Hervey Rotary Club
check it out. The well and Park at Roatory Club
meets on the second or fourth Wednesday evening at well
And Park downtown actually at Capstan Financial Suite offices on
(14:17):
the second floor there in downtown well And Park. That's
a great venue and a great speakers coming in there.
We recently had I mentioned the Seali Freedom on the
human trafficking earlier for the call there. Very interesting, very
tough topic to talk about, but it's a problem that
(14:38):
the trafficking issue obviously that people need to be aware of,
and that organization does a very good job much like
here does you know around here they're the same thing
but in a similar vein for helping those things as
those organizations do. So that was Seal of Freedom. We
you know, we've got actually on coming up this is
(14:58):
October sixth of coming up on Active We're going to
have Mike done coming in from the Atlanta Braves. Be
talking to Mike and he'll be going over what's happening
up there in the well And Park area and what
the what they're looking to do and develop up there,
and some good news on that and some other things.
Will be actually that same night presenting the check to
the Northport Police Department Canine Unit for the the UH
(15:18):
they were beneficiary for the Well and Park golf tournament.
So we'll be presenting them with the check that evening
for that, that's October eighth. And what else do we
have coming in actually also briefly coming in and then
he'll come back to be a speaker for us later
is going to be the upcoming principal of Wellam Park
High School who recently was at Woodland Middle School. So
(15:39):
that's he'll just come in, say hi, we'll be talking
to him, meet him a little bit. Then he'll come
back and do a program with us a little later on.
So that's coming up. A lot of good things coming up.
You can check it out. You can always go. You
can give me a call it nine four one four
eight four four three four one for the local or
local clubs and what we're doing, because as I always say,
it's you know, it's it's your passion and you know
(16:01):
what makes what's the interest and what would you like
to help support a lot of whether it's domestically internationally
the things that we do, you know, whether it's around
the world or around the country, clean water, you know,
hygiene when you talk about polaro eradication, hurricane relief, but
all the different things and scholarships and all the things
(16:22):
at all the clubs and the people in Rhoda that
they do and volunteer to do. So that's what roador
is all about. So we mentioned Paul Harris's middle name
recently didn't win Percy Very good Zane all righty good
job gets you out one, right? And when when did
I say he was born?
Speaker 3 (16:42):
I don't remember. It was eighteen something.
Speaker 1 (16:45):
It was it was April nineteenth of eighteen sixty eight. Wow,
So yeah, pretty amazing a gentleman that got Rtory started
with his ideas and the great things that go on.
So when we're talking about that, and you know the
meetings and obviously we talk about rotary where you can
catch up with us. You go to these farmers' markets,
so you can always catch up at the clubs and
(17:07):
see what's going on and will you be talking to
at both locations on that and let you know what's happening.
But you can always give me a call nine four
one four eight four four three four to one and
check some things out. I remember it's still October, still
got to the end of November for hurricane seasons. So
we always going to keep keep our guard up and
see what's happening. As we talked about October and we're
(17:29):
talking about the economic development and the theme so forth
for the month. So remember these volunteers a Road. They're
out there. They're all volunteering. But if some have businesses,
you know, perhaps give me the call. But you'll see
them all sponsoring and doing all these events and helping
people and doing things. They're not doing it for the money.
They're doing it to help people. And that's what we're
(17:50):
all doing it for us to volunteer and help them out.
So that's one of the big reasons you want to
be involved to you meet a lot of different people
and you can't have you can't have enough friends and
acquaintances out there, that's for sure, and you want to
be able to reach out and help in any way
that you can. So that's what really it's all about.
So when you're talking about that and the focus of
(18:13):
growing Roadary and having people come in and joining and
wanting to be a member of that's why they want
to be a member is of all the different things
that you do and what your passion may be. So
you know, we talked with you, I know we had
your Rotor Act right as a young man and you
got a lot out of that and a lot of.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
A lot of friendships that are still today.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
And that's you know, and coming up again after Mike
Dunn October eighth, I believe the next one we're going
to have at Wellham Park, they're going to be a
great speaker and that's going to be Tom Norton coming
down talking about the S four t L that's our
cinemar for tomorrow's leaders that we've been doing for years.
I've held it up in Lakeland at the college up
(18:54):
there for like four days and uh it's leadership teaching
leaderships skills to juniors and seniors in high school from
all around the districts or you're talking a huge area.
We've got fifty five clubs. Elegates will come in from
all those and they have learning sessions, wrap sessions with
business leaders everybody and go through a lot of different
(19:15):
things and they get to see kind of like staying
on the college campus for those few days, situations sort
of like easing you into what college will be like
to taking classes in a sense by all these different
things that they're doing for those days and learning what
it's all about great leadership skills for that. So we
had mentioned before and we were talking about the adjustment
(19:36):
when people they know recently talking about adjustment when you
go to college. I mean it's a big adjustment to
when these kids go from depending whatever city it is,
could be a large city, when you go from being
at home away to college and it's just a different environment.
So every kid adjusts differently, every student adjust differently in
(19:58):
that freshman year and you see that transformation. It's tough, Earl,
It's a tough thing. So that's, uh, that's what's going
on right there. So we talk about that. You know,
we've got always people that want to join and we
want them to join. So you can give me called
nine four one four four three four to one and
we can talk about that. Talking about sponsors and people
that did things. You know, if you wanted to go
(20:20):
and be when the people that really got such a
really good value not only playing in a great golf
tournament up there at Wellham Park this year for the
well and Parker Rotor Club. Excuse me, but if you
were a sponsor. Birdize was the platform we use for
people to sign up online to use that. With that,
(20:41):
you can still go to birdies dot Com and look
at that the well In Park Rotary Golf Tournament on there,
and it will still be on there the banner for
all those people that sponsored that tournament, they get their
name mentioned on that for almost a year. It will
go all the way through for like ten and a
half months. It's still right if you want to see
all the great people that you know, cap sand with
(21:03):
Financial Consulting was the the title sponsor. Then you had
the Birdie sponsors Florida Florida Lake Spa. You had Ghetto Automotive,
Grand Air Services HCA of Florida, Ledbetter Tropia, Pars sponsors, CIA,
Card Insurance, Freedom Boat Club, Grand Living all and the
list goes down and down as you know, So if
you want to check it out, check it out. But
(21:24):
that is that's a great value for folks to when
they were on there and saw that. But you can
see the people that are involved with that tournament helping
raise money for the Northport Police Department canine unit. And
make sure you sign up and go out and check
out the round or walk the rounds for nursing scholarships.
I mean when you're talking, you can you can run it,
(21:45):
you can walk it. But if you get the Walk
the Rounds for Nursing because it's for nursing scholarships Saturday,
October twenty fifth, and you want to check it out,
it will be its centennial parking Port Charlotte register hopefully
register ahead of time. Registration begins at seven am. The
event begains at eight. Sponser by the Roader Club at
Charlotte Harbor. You can be a sponsor, b me walker.
(22:07):
You can check it out and go to the www.
And it's run the Rounds or run the Rounds. It
is the one you're looking for. And when you get
to the sign up on run sign up dot com,
so you have to look at the heading for which
one that it is and it will show you and
check out. Check that out that one. Get signed up
or if you have problem with that, you can give
(22:28):
them a call or go to the email for njbasket
Case at gmail dot com, or go to the website
charlotteewrootary dot com. Check it out, ask questions or give
me a call nine four one four eight four three
four one. We'll get you squared away for that. That's
coming up. A lot of things happening. We mentioned different places,
different things to do with Rotary. I always like to
(22:49):
talk a little bit about what's happening and roating different
things around the world for Rodary too, right, So this
I found extremely interesting and it has to do with
a club overseas and it has to do with Italy.
End It is a really if you look at it,
if you look at our Rotarian magazine, it's quite unique
(23:11):
because it is it shows a what's now been a
rebuilt city that was destroyed by a catastrophic, catastrophic earthquake
in sixteen ninety three, the hilltop city of Rugusa in
the southeastern Sicily area of Italy. It obviously it was
rebuilt up similar area right by where it was in
(23:34):
the same style of the seventeenth century and the city's
old town and now known as Rugusa ibla is. It's
quite unique. It's on UNESCO World Heritage List. You can
check it out and take a look at it. It's
just a beautiful or beautiful sight to see and how
they redid it. But the history after earthquake, the new
(23:57):
town or Agusca was built above the old city. It's there,
you can check that out. And every reason I mentioned
at the club in that area was chartered in nineteen
fifty six for Rodary, and it is the rotary Crow
of Ragusa, is the oldest in the city. Its members
include ARI President Francisco A. Rezzio, whose family has four
(24:17):
generations there. They've owned a publishing it's a producing alib company.
It's their business is producing olive oil. But that's who
our international president. That's that's where he's from. So I
got one minute to go and we were talking about
our international president. We can also talk about lending a
hand and doing the best you can because you always
get more back when you give, don't you.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
That's true. We get a lot out of these shows.
I'll tell you.
Speaker 1 (24:42):
I love it well, you're a good man. I didn't
even pay you for that. That's good man.
Speaker 3 (24:46):
I enjoyed Theutain's fine.
Speaker 1 (24:48):
So I always try to talk interesting things around around
the country, around the world, and around the things that
we do for Rodary. So remember to check it out,
lend a hand, do the best you can. Come to
you every Monday from eleven thirty to noon. Right here
Heart Radio it's WCC fifteen eighty one hundred point nine.
Block us in by going to the iHeart app. It
doesn't cost you anything. Sign up it's free. Take iHeart
(25:09):
in the local stations with you. Thank you very much
for listening. Lend a hand, do the best you can.
Would talk to you next Monday.
