WCCF fifteen eighty and one hundred point nine FM on
your dial. Remember, you can take us anywhere you want.
Just plug it in on the ihapp I Heart application
(00:20):
and on that app that is free. Just go in,
sign up, get it ready to go, and you can
check out all that's going on at iHeartRadio and the
various shows. I obviously plug in for that eleven thirty
to noon Monday slot so you can listen with about
Let's Talk with Stephen Carter because we're going to talk
about things in Charlotte County, Sarasota County and around the area.
(00:42):
We'll be talking about Rotary and a lot of some
other things around perhaps around the world too. Throw some
things in there for you. So every day is a gift,
as I always say, and it truly is. So let's
open up Today's and see what's happening. So we know
Rotary's theme for the month this month in October is
community and economic developments. We'll be talking a little bit
(01:04):
of some things about that and how how that works.
Talk about rotary start off with where does rotary meet?
Rotary clubs here locally there are several, but Charlotte Harbor
Rotary meets on Tuesday mornings from seven thirty two eight
thirty at the I Hop Restaurant and that's at seventeen
eighty nine Tammiami Trail and Port Charlotte, and the meeting
(01:26):
suddenly they last an hour. They have great speakers, a
lot of things coming in for them, and we'll be
talking about some of the things that they're doing. And
we also have the Well and Park Rotary Club, so
it's rotor Club that one and they meet in the
evening on the second and fourth Wednesdays from six to
seven pm and they meet at the office of Capstan
(01:48):
Financial Consulting downtown Wall and Park. So if you need
information on either of those clubs, want to get in
touch with them, you can give me a call at
nine four one four eight four four three four one
and we can get you connected with them. We always
have great speakers come in good meetings, try to keep
it entertaining. I'll find out things about people from different vocations,
(02:11):
whether they're still working or retired, different nonprofits, different groups,
community people that we'll come in and talks. Always great
speakers coming in. So we'll talk some about some of
the speakers we've had come in just recently too, and
go over that and kind of keep you updated and
all those things of what's going on. So start a
(02:33):
little early today with our quote of the day. Okay,
so let's get to that one here in just one moment.
Get to my right say here we go. All right,
so our quote for today is this, build up your
weaknesses until they become your strong points. Who would have
(02:55):
said that, Brusie. You know, that's a really good answer,
very very good answer. But I g I guess we
just put it in the context of not martial arts
with somebody that was kind of forceful like that many
years before Newt Rockney said that. Okay, I didn't even
know him football Okay, okay, all right, it wasn't recently
(03:17):
in fantasy football, but anyway, that's what he said. I
thought that was a pretty good quote. When you come
down to it, and build up your weaknesses until they
become your strong points and obviously work on them, fix them,
get better, and you know, make that a strength. So
we actually have a nice quote in music. My guitard
teacher had a saying that says, don't practice to get
(03:40):
it right, practice so you don't get it wrong. Very
good point, very good. Absolutely. So you know we're talking
about things going on with Rotary. So let's mentioned a
few things coming up and some interesting things I think
on this week's show that we'll be talking about, and
it's talk about the walk that is coming up for
(04:01):
Charlotte Harbor. And this walk and run this year is
a little different than the one we did a couple
of years ago. But it's coming up on October twenty fifth,
so you say, have time to sign up for that,
and it is going to be Saturday, October twenty five,
of twenty twenty five. It's a five k which is
a three point one run walk at Centeno Park and
(04:22):
Port Charlotte. Registration begins at seven am and the event
actually starts at eight. You can run or you can walk,
you can be a sponsor. You're right up against the
clock running time wise. Because this you know, we have
a little time yet that you could still sign up
if you want to get in. So it is the
run or walk. The rounds for nursing. Nursing scholarships is
(04:44):
what the money will be generated for to help raise
money for those, and the beauty of that is that
helps those that help us.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
And we know.
Speaker 1 (04:53):
There's a critical nursing shortage in southwest Floridas, who we
want to help that and get more people that perhaps
they're they're working and they're trying to move up to
be an RN or something else in the medical field
and get their experience and get their certifications and so forth,
and this will help them do that and get a
(05:13):
scholarship for that. So for those proceeds to provide the
additional funding for the scholarships to the graduates of the
area high schools who wish to pursue a nursing type career.
It can be medical assumption, it doesn't have to be
specifically a nurse. So the way you can do that
and the way you can sign up is real easy.
You can go and register to run or walk online
(05:35):
at www dot run sign up dot com, select to
find a race and enter the Run the Rounds in
the search box and it'll pull you up to that event,
which is the event we're talking about here for October
twenty fifth and as runner walked arounds for nursing and
you too can help solve the critical nursing shortage in
southwest Florida. So once again, you can go to www
(05:58):
dot run sign up dot com, select find a race,
enter run the rounds in each in the search box,
it'll give you a list to all the calendar and
all the different events going on for this run group
that puts us on which is the run sign up,
so you want to make sure you just go to
run the rounds in a search box you'll find that
(06:19):
and if you want more information in that, you can
go to NJ basket Case at gmail dot com or
you can give me called nine four one four eight
four four three four one. We'll get you signed up
and get you to the right people to sign you
up and get your ready to go. Because it helps
raising money for the nursing scholarships, it's a great thing.
Charlotte Harbor's been providing scholarships to students in Charlotte Harbor
(06:41):
from the Rotary Club since just about the time it
formed in nineteen eighty. So it's been a great club
providing scholarships and many other things that they do in
the community. So keep that in mind. Saturday I cover
twenty five twenty twenty five. Additionally, well we're talking about that,
let's talk about some other things they'll be doing. They
(07:03):
will be also talking about coming to and they've already
started doing this now to the Punta Gordon monthly Farmers
Market on the first Saturday of every month beginning October fourth,
and they've already started doing that, and they'll be talking
about what the club's going to be doing. They'll have
a fifty to fifty raffle and some other things. You
(07:24):
can go and you can check it out and learn
about what's happening with Rotary. So also they're going to
be out at the Florida International Air Showing Um first
and second you'll have a nonprofit tenant fifty to fifty
drawing talk to you can talk to you and answer
questions about Rotary there too. Now let's shift gears and
go to well And Park Rotary Club. That club, as
(07:44):
I mentioned, meets on a second or fourth Wednesdays, sixty
seven pm. A lot of exciting things happen with that.
We had our golf tournament recently at Wellam Park and
Country Club. It was a sellout, great event, looking forward
to it next year. We had the recently just had
the pleasure of presenting our check to the Northport Police
(08:07):
Department Canine Unit for the funds for that. So we
gave them a check for ten thousand dollars raised from
that golf tournament to help the support them and have
the dogs. So we have some cool pictures with the
dogs there with us and canine officers, and we want
to certainly think again all of our sponsors, all the players.
I hope everybody had a great time. We're looking to
(08:28):
do it again next year. So as soon as we
get it firmed up the date and so forth for
next year, we'll start sponsoring that again. The beauty of
that you can go on birdease dot com, birdaseeas dot
com and you can pull up that website and you
can click on about our golf tournament which was September
sixth of twenty twenty five, and you'll still see the
(08:49):
name of the sponsors scrolling across there, which is great
exposure for them, but it also and still give you
some information not only about those sponsors of the tournament,
and little about the tournament too. So keep that mining
say with data. Since we get that coming up. Will
announce the data when that's coming for next year's event.
And it was a great success for that Farmer's market
(09:11):
we were speaking about earlier and weren't we saying, right, okay,
so Farmer's market also in well In Park Sundays. Actually,
h yeah, that one's up there, and you got well
And Park, you got the one down there and well
And Park nine. We were nickna out at ours are
the one up at Wella Park nine to eleven last
(09:31):
Sunday and great time. Talked a lot of good people
coming through seeing what's going on, people moving to the
area that are living here, checking out the area. I
think well In Park is doing right now. They are
doing a turkey tree. Never heard of the turkey tree? No, no, okay,
we don't actually have a live turkey there, but we
(09:52):
do have coupons with a turkey on the coupon. And
as God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly, yeah, buddy,
right next to the pig in the other lane. Anyway,
the turkey tree you get on that is a coupon
(10:14):
that is hanging there and it will be for different
denominations for a donation to purchase a turkey from publics
when you purchase those, we'll take that money with some
money as we're putting to it, and we will be
buying turkeys for Thanksgiving. Last year they gave out I
believe it was one hundred and forty with the turkeys
(10:36):
and the fixings and everything and so forth. We get
these in and we buy them the turkeys from publics.
They're good enough to give us a good price on
the turkeys and the noser we pick them up, we
take them over to the church. The church will have
them fixed up and ready to go and they will
give them up to people in need during Thanksgiving. So
(10:58):
we'd love to do more than we did last I
should love to assist it, but one hundred and seventy
five two hundred this year. So if you'd like to
do that, if you'd like more information about that, give
me a call at nine four one four eight four
four three four one. And that's the turkey tree for
the Roadary Club at Wellam Park that we're doing. And
it's it's pretty easy to do or if you want,
you know, you can do it by going to the
(11:19):
webs aren't just right? You know to do the QR
code code and do it and plug it in. Or
if you want to buy the turkey, then take it
to the welcome center at well And Park and drop
it off. Aren't you know you can do that. You
can take your coupon over there to them, so we
can then go purchase it for you if you want
to do it that way, so you know, I actually
take the turkey to them. Okay, you'd buy the coupon
(11:40):
from from public, So that's the way you can do that.
If you need more information, give us a call it
nine four one four eight four four three four to
one and we can talk about that and see what's
going on in your world and see if we can
help you. Maybe you'd like to come to one of
our meetings help us do some of the things we're doing.
So those are some of the things coming up that
we'll be doing. Work working on a venue to put
(12:02):
together our trivia challenge that we used to do for
about ten years that Nick and I and Darryl did
at Charlotte Harbor Road. We're putting one together, trying to
find license, secure the location in Wallam Park to do that,
and if we do, we're hoping get that started probably
around you know, the season time and we'll probably in January.
(12:25):
That's what we're shooting to doing that. And that was
always a great success and that helped us raise money
for nonprofits. So I know a lot of people have
been wanting us to get that going in the catch
has been finding a place big enough to provide a
venue for us to do it. So that's what we're
looking to do. So I'll keep you updated doing that
as we move forward. I think we've got a call
on the line right now. Whoops, that was him hitting
(12:48):
my microphone. We have a caller online calling right now.
I think it's probably going to be Nick calling in
from CI Carter Insurance. So let's take that call and
we'll be back with you.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Hey, this Steven Carter for CI Carter Insurance, covering today
for Nick and tied up this morning. Wasn't able to
call it, so ought I give a quick review of
what CIA Carter Insurance Agency is all about. And you
know when you talk about family businesses, well, this is
a family business for a CIA Carter Insurance agency. Nick
is my partner and I started this agency back in
(13:16):
twenty eighteen, and get a little background on us. Everybody
likes it to know about who they're dealing with and
our agency. You know, I was licensed initially got my
license and has had it ever since nineteen ninety two,
back when I was a division manager for Triple Oy
Auto Club South, and I've maintained a license, continued as
I had to have that and run my offices for
Tripley over the years when we started. When I started
(13:38):
this agency, and then Nick graduated from the University of
South Florida and I brought him in and he's been
in the business with me ever since. He's my vice
president and he does a great job. I'm sure you
would trusted that from hearing him on the show when
he calls in and talks about insurance. So with it
being an independent agent in agency makes it very unique
for us because what that means is you can hear
(14:00):
handle many different companies for your home, for the auto,
for the commercial business, whether it be general liability, UH,
whether it be a business policy, all those things. We
have different, many different companies and brokers that we deal
with that give you an option to give you a
really good, good advantage on getting the best price and
the best coverage available depending on what policy you're looking for.
(14:21):
So that's when people talk about it an independent agency
or a captive agency. A captive agency is one it
only rights their business, which is what we were at
Triplet during those years, and they pretty much still are
there basically their own their own policies for their company.
So that makes it different. So with an independent agency,
you have a broader market to choose from, and it
makes it i think, very interesting and much more available
(14:44):
to you in the sense that you're going to get
a customized asset because of their insurance, which is a
very big, huge benefit for you can save money, you
can get great benefits. We have a lot of different
companies to shop from and with, so you know whether
it is for your auto insurance. We can review you
know as you if we can review the current coverage,
answer any questions that you may have in regards to
what the requirements are additional coverage options, like we talked
(15:08):
a lot in the past, and it's always very important
to talk about unasured motors and how important that is.
Obviously people know about collision and cop coverage and what
your deductibles would be and all the things that go
with that. You may want an umbrella policy. We can
help you with that, that's your coverage above and beyond
the limits you would normally have. You know, you may
want to have a homeowers insurance policy. We certainly can
(15:30):
guide you through that because a lot of different companies
that we can deal with them. And the good news
is there have been some new companies coming online this year,
which makes it even better for everybody in Florida. So
that's always a very good thing when you talk about
what is needed. You know what your more eage company.
If you have a mortach on the home, and if
you have a s road and your payment's paid, you
know through your the payments you can do that for
(15:52):
your insurance PREMI into or they take it right out
of that, or you can choose to do it correctly
on your own. But a lot of variety when it
comes to homeowners market. I always want to make sure
you have things up updated when you can on your
homes and that's gives you the best rates to whether
it's if you just put a new roof on, you
want to have a win mitigation report and make sure
you get that to your agent so they know that
and we then would get you the best rate available
(16:13):
to get discounts and credit for having the wind mitigation
report on there. We also do, as I mentioned, do
the umbrella policies. You know, you might want to have
that coverage. Just make sure you have some additional recover
you in certain situations. Umbrella and certainly help you if
you have a situation where you run above and beyond
what your limits may be. So that's always a good
(16:34):
thing to have. When we're talking about perhaps flood insurance.
We know with flood insurance all citizens just about every
citizen's policy and I was requiring flood insurance and by
twenty twenty, between six and seven, everybody that has a
flood policy or a policy with citizens, it's going to
have to have persatsue in Florida, they're going to have
to have a flood policy. So that's coming up down
(16:56):
the line for that. But we offer not only the
FEMA key product, we also have some private companies, private
market companies for flood policies too, so aple different options
there for you. So those you know, the important things
with flood insurance, but if you're in a flood zone,
you certainly want to have it. Whether you have it
or more if you or not, you really should have it.
(17:17):
It's one of the most economical and important coverages you
can get for your home. For your home and truly
very very valuable to have and be ready to be
prepared for a rainy day or you know, it could
be when it comes to that, it could be you know,
from a whatever catastrophic type storm. But the flood is
rising water, so that's what you when it's designated to
(17:38):
be a flood, that's when that policy would kick in
from rising water and it's designated as such, and then
it would proceed with that aspect if you have a claim. Now,
if you wanted life insurance, you know, we also cover life.
Nick does. I don't do the life that he does life.
I do everything else with him that he does life
and he does he also does medicure, so that's available
(17:58):
author life insurance. Obviously, it's a very important aspect to
have and your tool kit when it comes to insurance
and your coverages, so you can certainly take care of that,
try to make it a very you know, it's a
full and complete agency. You know, then we offer when
we talk commercial business, you can be a small contractor
a small business person, but you want to have to
day for instance, you're renting your space and you have
(18:19):
your office there, you need to have general liability policy
on that that covers you for a slip and fall.
Usually landlords want window break each coverage for the windows.
And then you can put your if you'd like to
go ahead and put your business property on and you
can do that. And so we got all kinds of
things to do. So what all you have to do
is give us call it nine four one for eighty
four or three four one our go to the website
(18:42):
and that is g i a srq dot com. Give
us a call there ninety four one four four three
four one and we'll get your insurance need mut So Nick,
we'll be back on the next show. But you missed today.
So there you go with our insurance update for today.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
All right, thanks Nick for calling in. We'll talk to
you again next money. We appreciate all the information, buddy,
have a great day. All right. That was Nick Carter
was Carter Insurance given us some updates and all with
some good tips regarding insurance and things going on. Remember
it's still hurricane season. Always be prepared for that. Don't
let your guard down, have your things ready and remember
(19:14):
that goes through November. So in the last few minutes
or what I wanted to talk about and highlight. Our
guest speaker recently at Wellam Park Rotary Club was Mark
rossen Becker, who is going to be the and is
the new principal for Wellam Park High School which is
set to be opening up August of twenty twenty six,
(19:36):
and he came out did a presentation to the club,
great presentation telling us about about the school and how
it's going to be set up. And I mean, I
tell you, this school is a state of the art.
It is built obviously for the future, not twenty thirty
years ago. But so he came out, here's the former
principal down here the middle school and did a great job.
(20:04):
Barry helped us out with ROLI, which is our learning
institute for Rotarians as they go through the steps and
keep updated and gets basically in a sense certified and
going through the different levels of rotary knowing about roatory
so they can serve and be better leaders within Rotary.
So he was always very supportive, gave us a venus
(20:26):
for that. So we certainly do appreciate all he did
to help us out down there at Woodland Middle School,
and now he's going to be and is the principal
of the brand new, up and coming well Park High School,
which is kind of coming along faster than they thought.
But August the twenty twenty six, it's going to be
open and it is eighty one acres. It'll be a
(20:50):
modern and is a if you grab it by now,
look at it, the modern, three story building, three hundred
and twenty five thousand square feet. The address is ten
eighty one Minnesota Beach Road, and it is going to
be absolutely fantastic. I'm talking about the state of the
art facilities for the sports, the synthetic turf that's going
(21:13):
to be there, the Great Trek it's a nine lane track.
They have, the stead of the art locker rooms. The
facilities are going to be really really top notch, great
performing arts center it's going to be there. It's going
to be a dynamic environment for academic excellence and extracurricular
(21:35):
activities for the kids. I mean, it's way beyond what
we had and weird in school. I mean the stuff
that they now. They're going to have like three eating areas,
but like three really nice different areas. You know from
a coffee shop with pastries and coffee to a couple
other areas and not just like you're going to a
cafe or a little sports grill kid. And it's really
(21:57):
really really very very nicely done. And the way this
is designed it's absolutely amazing. And their colors are going
to be red, white and blue and they will be
the Welheam Park Eagles that is there going to be
their moniker for their school and for the athletics. So
(22:19):
really looking forward to that happening. And it also it
takes in a swath of a huge area of kids
for this school because the need for the school was that,
for instance, that the Venice High School was at one
hundred and twenty percent you could hold, so they have
that's all they start looking at those. As he was explaining,
they've only built two new high schools. This is the
(22:40):
second one in like seventy five years out in this area.
You know when they redid Lemon Bay or you know,
you had Lemon Bay, then you had Charlotte, but you
know now with this one, Troy only the second new
one that's come up. You had Northport twenty five years ago,
and that doesn't seem that long ago. But so what
this does is it encompasses all the way up. It
(23:03):
will take you to where jack Randa is to jack
Randa about forty one in Venice, and that area down right,
that area down and around, and then it swoops back down,
so it covers a huge area to make up for
what we'll need in the future for the additional students
come in. Because there's another eighteen thousand plus homes that
(23:26):
are scheduled to be built and are ready to be built,
will be built in the well And Park area. Eighteen
thousand more plus what's up there, So it's going to
be a huge amount of students. And they figure that
probably out of that amount, you'd have about thirty nine
hundred more students than probably about twelve hundred plus of
those would be going to high school. So it's going
(23:47):
to help fill that need and spread that out so
everybody will have a great learning environment and the schools
won't be so overpopulated per se. So that's what we're
talking about. That that was the Welling Park High School.
That's pretty interesting. Those are kind of meetings we have
and you really can learn some really very very cool
stuff and great things going on in the community. Or
thanks to Mark Grossbaker for coming out and talking to us.
(24:10):
Hopefully we'll get over there and get a tour of
it and check it out ourselves, coming up real soon
as a rotary outing kind of day and take a
look at it. Because it's well on its way in construction.
So as we talk about that, that's rettin time goes
by quick. We're about out of time. So like I
always say, lend a hand, do the best you can
(24:31):
and listen to us on Money's from eleven thirty noon.
Let's talk with Stephen Carter. Get it on the IAP,
the iHeart App and take us with you anywhere the
iHeart app. It is free. Let's talk with Stephen Carter
Money's eleven thirty noon. Thanks for listening today,
