Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning, welcome to Let's Talk with Stephen Carter. It's
a Monday. We come to you as always eleven thirty
to noon on Mondays and iHeartRadio. Make sure you put
it on your app. You can take us anywhere. We're
eleven thirty to noon on Mondays. Let's talk with Stephen Carter.
And every day, you know, every day's a gift. With
a gift, we unwrap it, we see what's on that gift.

(00:21):
So today we'll be getting started. We'll be telling you
about Rotary, a lot of things coming up where Roatary meets,
and two different clubs that I'll be talking about and
events that we're doing. Let's kick it off a little
differently today with our birth uh we lost him. While
we got a special caller comming in here. We'll be
calling in a minute. So with that, I'll tell you
real briefly about the two clubs and where they meet.

(00:43):
Charlotte Harboro. Rotary meets at the Ihop restaurants on Tuesdays
from seven thirty to eight thirty am, and that's seventeen
eighty nine to ten Miami Trail and Port Charlotte, and
they have an event coming up we'll be talking about that.
The other event I want to talk about just finished,
and we'll talk about that and the people that sponsored
on that and the great golf tournament that took place
on September sixth at the well And Park Golf and

(01:06):
Country Glove. That was the Rotoric Club at well And
Park second annual charity golf tournament which benefited the Northport
Police Department canine units. We'll be talking depth about that too.
We should have a caller coming up here in just
a moment. I think we had him and then we
lost him on the line. So we'll talk a little
differently today. You know, we always do a quote right,

(01:27):
start with this quote to get you going here, zay
all right, all right? And the classes between ignorance and
intelligence which side of my hot let me finish it?
And the classes between ignorance and intelligence. Ignorance is usually
the aggressor who would have said that.

Speaker 2 (01:48):
Oh man, I'm gonna I'm just you know what I'm
gonna do. I'm gonna say Winston Churchill. For some reason,
it's not a sounds like something he would say.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Not a bet, you know, answer for that. But actually
it was the founder of Rotarate said that Paul Harris.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
I like Paul Harris. He came up with a lot
of neat things.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Way test, classic guy that we'll be talking about that
coming up. So while we're talking, Zane, what is what
did they say about the four way test? How do
they say that?

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Is it the truth? Yeah? Does it? Does it foster good? Well?
Does it here?

Speaker 1 (02:24):
This will help you?

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Does it bring people together? Therefore? Is it beneficial for
all concerned?

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Getting you're getting close, you're mixing together? Now you can
you can tell me what they are here coming up
in just a second.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
Okay, all right? Is it the truth? Is it fair
to all concerned?

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (02:44):
Well, it build good well and better friendship? Will it
be beneficial to all concerned?

Speaker 1 (02:51):
That is the four way test? So now so you
won't forget that dye that is your coin.

Speaker 2 (02:58):
That I love this? Thank you? What a nice skiff. Yeah,
this is beautiful. And then those of you who are listening,
you know obviously you can't see this, but then I
received this beautiful coinsct wway tested on the back and
then this says unite for good Rotary.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
That is the logo logo or the slogan this year
for Rotary. Every International President. When they come in, they
have a theme and that is the thing for this year,
Unite for good. So that's it for this year for you.
So now, whenever I ask it, you're always going.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
To know that right because I'll have it right there.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Eventually you'll get it. There's four of them, you'll get that. Anyway,
we were going to have a caller call in. I
don't know what happened to him. We'll have to check
back and see what's going on with that. Okay, So
we got a caller calling in this morning, and I
think it's a special day for this person. Was real,
I'm around this time for this young man when he

(03:51):
calls in, still not read there is right there? We
got a car coming in. Good morning? Is this? Uh?
I'm guessing the amazing cres Can told me this is
Nick Carter calling in? Is that Nick? It is?

Speaker 3 (04:08):
How you doing today?

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Good buddy? How are you.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Doing great?

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Let's Cia Carter Insurance and it's Nick Carter. You know,
I think you recently had a birthday. Gosh, I was
thinking you're pushing the big four. Oh, but you're not
quite there yet, are you, Nick? No? Yeah, yeah you
are by a year? Yeah? All right, So that's a

(04:33):
belated happy birthday. So you know, your birthday just took
place recently, and we wanted to make sure everybody knew
that that you were getting a little older and I'm
getting younger, so everything's good with that. So we're talking
the other day about a lot of different things. You know,
we talk storm preparation, a lot of things for insurance
and people coming back and forth for the season and

(04:55):
so forth. So I'm going to give that topic to
you this morning. What would you like to talk them
out for a couple of minutes regarding insurance.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Well, you know, one of the big things with the
storm preparations and whatnot is a program that a lot
of people may I think hopefully at this point have
heard of, but the My Florida Safe Home program that
the state has been putting together. That program has gotten
refunded again this year. And what that program does if

(05:25):
you qualify for it, and there's differing rules. I'm not
going to go into all those because that'll take a
lot longer than a couple of minutes, obviously, but they
do have a great website that can answer all those
questions on qualifications and what those types of things you
can get, but you can actually get money from the
state of Florida to improve the safety factors of your house. Okay,

(05:49):
and what I mean just everyone automatically thinks one does endors. Yes,
that is a pot that is a part of the
program and does qualify for reimbursements and different things. But
also up to your roof though too. If you have
an older roof and it's getting past that lifespan and
you want to check it out to see if you
can qualify, go on to that website. But you can

(06:12):
get up to ten thousand dollars you know, through the windows,
your doors and even roof replacement, you know, and people
the last few years have really that's become a sticking
point for a lot of things, from home sales to
your insurance rates. Right, is that age of the roof.
We went through a time period where they really cracked

(06:32):
down and tightened the age of roof and the useful
life of the roof. Most companies are looking for five
years useful life in your roof to stay a for
a new policy, but be to stay insurable. Some go
down to three years minimum useful life. But that's kind
of that gold number. Is that three to five range.

(06:54):
So if your roof has been on for an extended
period of time, especially with all the storms that we've
had with the heat and the sun. I you know,
we've all heard the sales pitch from different vendors of
you know, it's a fifty year product, it's one hundred
year product. You know, I'm waiting now for the five
hundred year product. Yeah, right, right exactly. And you know

(07:17):
that very well may be the case in some very
idyllic situations, not necessarily with hurricanes that we face every
single year, different storms and even storms that have no name.
You know, we were talking about that the other day
for the people up in Sarasota to the tamp area,
that type of thing. However, many years ago, we had
that no name storm and they did a lot of

(07:38):
image and it was not a hurricane, it wasn't a
tropical storm. It had literally no name, and that's what
became the name of the no name storm. Right. And
so those even summer storms can do damage that you
may not realize that have done, you know, to your roof.
So having those inspections, and that's the next point to
to that is, you know, the my Florida Safe home

(08:00):
program that has been refunded that is available for people.
If you qualified, they can assist you in getting you
know your home safer and that type of thing. The
other thing too, is getting those reports. You know, we've
we've had a lot of people that have looked into
moving down into Florida, but they are hesitant to actually
spend one hundred or two hundred dollars on a on

(08:22):
a report. And what I mean by that is everyone
thinks of the full home inspection, and yes, that inspection
is a very lengthy inspection. They show you every single
everything about a house, right and they can't be pricey
depending on the size of the house. But for insurance,
when we say reports, we're not we're not looking for
that report. We're looking for a win mitigation report done

(08:43):
within five years, and we are looking for a four
point inspection done within twelve months and in some cases
at the last thirty days. For certain companies, it has
to be a very recent four point. But those two
insurance based reports dictate what your premium is going to
be on your house. So getting those reports spending possibly

(09:07):
two hundred dollars and that could save you five to
fifteen hundred dollars a year depending on what those categories
check off. And in some cases we've seen that save
people way more than five or one thousand dollars, but
we try to stay conservative when we say five one
hundred to one thousand, and that said, sometimes it's a
lot higher than that.

Speaker 1 (09:26):
A good point, though, too, is somebody puts on a
new roof, and that's great, but you have to tell
your insurance agent that they needed to take a look
at that and get that any credits you maybe do.
You have to get that report to turn it in
to get benefit from that if you want savings correct exactly.

Speaker 3 (09:45):
And that's the thing right there. You know, from the
sale of a house to adding on an addition, to
putting in a pool, to switching out a roof, the
only people who are going to tell your insurance agent
that that has occurred is you the customer, right you
the client. If you've done those material changes to your property,
no one else is coming to send a letter to

(10:07):
your insurance agent or company to say, hey, we've added
on x square footage to our house. We've put on
a pool with a cage. You know, we've built that
dream detached garage that also is the man cave in
the back. We don't know any of that stuff unless
you know they're informed right then. That's why we always
encourage those insurance reviews too, because the policy that you

(10:29):
may have taken out on your home five ten, fifteen,
in some cases longer years ago, may not provide you
the same coverage that you think you're covered for now
because of a lot of material changes from additions to
new features that were not considered, you know, back then
when you initially took it out. So whenever those changes

(10:50):
are made, that's that perfect time for an insurance review
to go over all of those things. And you know,
they can obviously give us a call it nine to
four one four eight four four three four one. We
can answer questions, we can get information from them, We
can run new quotes, go over those coverages and those
items that they may have questions on. If they do
have those reports, they don't want to call and they

(11:12):
want to deal over the internet, that's fine too. We
can do that too. They can go to our website
CISARQ dot com, put in that contact us page and
they can upload the reports that they have them right
there the declaration space for their current policy all of that,
and we can start the same process for them as
well to make sure that they have the coverage that
they think and want to have for this storm season

(11:34):
going forward.

Speaker 1 (11:35):
Well, and that's the key to you want to be prepared.
As we talked with you know, still hurricane season through
in November, so you know, be prepared. These are ways
to do it, but you can't assume somebody knows something.
That's like, if you pay your mortgage off, you certainly
got a call your insurance agent and say, hey, you know,
satisfied my moreage, So we need to take the lean
off if they're on the obviously, if they're on their

(11:56):
insurance policy, right, So all those things absolutely.

Speaker 3 (11:59):
That is a another important part too, especially during hurricane season,
if you have a claim and you've paid off that
mortgage and you have not informed your insurance company or
agent that you've paid off that mortgage, because most of
the time the mortgage company does not tell the insurance
agent if you've paid that off. You need to let
him know because if you have a claim, it's going
to slow that process down because that check is going

(12:22):
to get cut to the mortgage company, right, and the
mortgage co company is going to say, I don't know
who these people are anymore, and then it turns into
us slowing down of that process, which then is going
to take you lunder to get back to where you
want to.

Speaker 1 (12:33):
Get exactly right in so check coming to the to
the to the owner then without a mortgage, so you've
got to wait all the way through and hassle of
getting netflixed. That's a very important point. Okay, you gave
us a contact information one more time. How can they
get you?

Speaker 3 (12:48):
I think can get us called nine four one four
four three four one, or then you go onto our
website CIA srq dot com and put in that contact
us form and we will get right to them.

Speaker 1 (12:58):
All right, have a great day. Thanks for calm. We'll
talk to you next Monday right here at eleven thirty
noont and let's talk with Stephen Carter. That's Nick Carter.
Have a great day, buddy, Thank you, Thank you. All right,
some good news there and some good tips regarding insurance
and at the website for my say Florida, and check
that out that that is a very very helpful tip

(13:18):
for you and get your information on it.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
I just thought of a question, yep, let's say I'm
looking for a house. It's sent a flood zone. So
I say, oh, well, flood insurance is too expensive. I'll
just get a house in a non flood zone. Do
I still have to have flood insurance?

Speaker 1 (13:35):
Depending who you're with most companies, now, if you're with Citizens,
Citizens is going to a situation where everybody that has
a Citizen's policy will have to have a flood policy. Okay,
they've been on a graduated basis. They're working towards getting
everybody into that. They started with with mobile homes a
while back, and now it's getting to that point where
they're going to have everybody that will have a Citizen's

(13:58):
insurance policy will have to have a flolood policy, regardless
whether they have a mortgage, regardless that they're in a
flood zone. Coming up. That's they're working to get everybody
that they have ensured they have that, and they're getting
close closer to that. But the others, no, they don't
depending you know, if you don't have a mortgage and
you choose not to have it in other situations, no,

(14:21):
but that's that's the one company around down now that's
making that happen. But it's not all the policies yet,
but they're getting closer. That's what they're working towards. Okay,
And that was passed back in like December of twenty
twenty two regarding that coming up. So that's a very
important feature. But it's it's a very inexpensive policy compared

(14:41):
to what it's going to do for you and help you.
Because you had to remember your regular homeowners policy does
not cover rising water. Rising water is flood, Okay, that
you know. That's the difference. Water's rising its flood. If
it's wind driven rain from above whatever, that's not a flood, okay.
So you've got to look at it that way. So
it depends how the issue is. But that's a very
good point. So if he were looking at that, certainly

(15:03):
something to be mind where you're at and located. That's
for sure a lot that and you know many other
things when you look at it. All right, So we
were talking about that and appreciate next tips on those
as we talked about insurance. So and you did. You
had a pretty good answer on that quote for this morning.
I got to say that wasn't bad Winston Churchill, but

(15:24):
you know, hard to beat Paul Harris you know who
was the founder of Rotary back in nineteen oh five,
when he and three friends got together to see if
they could not only have, you know, build a camaraderie together, friendship,
knowledge of between their different vocations, and get to know
everybody like you would in a small town. It's basically

(15:45):
how his thinking was where he small town he grew
up in was getting to know everybody and you know,
you get help people and all those different things. And
that's what it's evolved from with Paul Harrison that back
in nineteen oh five. So it's turned into an organization
now with the UH just about one point four million
members around the world doing good and trying to do
us have service above self and lived by that four

(16:08):
way test that we just talked about, didn't we.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
Yes, Okay, So what I did is I studied the
coin for a little bit and I put it away.

Speaker 1 (16:16):
All Right, you're not looking at so without If I were,
if I were to tell you this is how it
would go, I'd say, Sae, would you like to do
this poor way test for us? And you would start
out you'd say, of the things we think say or
due number one is.

Speaker 2 (16:29):
It the truth? Number two is it fair to all concerned?

Speaker 3 (16:32):
Number three?

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Is it beneficial to all concerned?

Speaker 1 (16:35):
Number four? Uh?

Speaker 2 (16:36):
Will it build good, goodwill and better?

Speaker 1 (16:40):
That's the four I had.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
I had him out of order, but the last two.

Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah, but that's good, all right, good job, good job.
We got you there, and you had the coin to
remind you of that.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
So that's a good thing.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Really nice coin too, all right.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
So we talked about the event that took place recently
at Welling Park. Go On Country Club was on September six,
and that was our second annual charity golf tournament Rotary
Club at Wallam Park and that golf tournament was to
benefit the Northport Police Department Canine Unit. It was arousing success.

(17:14):
We have had sold out filled basically.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (17:20):
You always hope everybody comes, maybe one or two people
show up at it looks to be that it was
a sold out fill for us, and that's a good thing.
And great sponsors that came out and support us, great
players that came out. Not that we played great, but
the people had a great time I think, and it's
a very nice venue and it was a really really

(17:40):
good tournament. So we want to thank all the sponsors
and everybody that showed up on September six at the
Rotary Club at Wellem Park's second Aderate charity golf tournament
benefiting the Northport Police Department. Proceeds a good portion of
those proceeds are going to the Northport Police Department Canine
Unit to help them buy supplies, whether it be say,

(18:01):
you know, the bike, protects the material, the globe, the suit,
a dog, you know whatever, because you know they need
help with some additional funding for things like that. So
that's what that's all about. And we really really do
appreciate all the support.

Speaker 3 (18:16):
This is.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
It was done last year for them, it was played
at but Plantation last year, but this year being played it.

Speaker 2 (18:24):
I've considered them good friends for years and years.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
Because yep, they're heroes. They do it, you know, whether
it's a disaster of rescue, crime prevention, all the different
things that they do. So you know, you certainly got
a tip of the hat. And always think those all
of our service providers when you're talking about the police,
the fire, any of the emergency folks that are out

(18:50):
there doing the work. Thank when you see them, it's
like you would think our military for doing all they.

Speaker 2 (18:54):
Do for and I say this proudly, don't go speeding
through North Park as you're going to get it.

Speaker 1 (18:58):
That they that is one of the closely monitored output
it nicely monitored areas that is out there, that is
for sure. Back when I managed strip Away that was
really and we're really really tight on it. Then they're
just this tight now. So they make sure you're you're
biding by the law and that's a good thing and
it's a safe thing. So that's what you want. So

(19:19):
thanks to them for that. The other event that's coming
up for the Charlotte Harbor Roadary, so talk about that one,
and that is going to be actually it'll be the
second walk that they're doing. It's the walk we started
a couple before COVID or before the last hurricane was
code and that was when I believe that one was
ian when it took out the walks and so forth

(19:42):
over in Lastly Park did the first one over there,
so we had to postpone the one last year, so
this one will take place. It's a run er walk
for nursing helping to raise money for nursing scholarships for
Charlotte Harbor Rotary. This year it's gonna be a little
different combining the five k, which is it's a three
point one mile runner walk, So I'm I'm going to

(20:04):
have it where it's set up where actually it'll be
time to event for the runners this year plus walkers
so both can participate. You can become a sponsor showcase
your business or organization. You can be a two thousand
dollars name sponsor. You provided with three tables with banners,
receive a large logo on the top position on the
T shirts and teeth, ten free entries, ten T shirts.

(20:26):
You get a thousand hour Platinum sponsor. You can provide
two tables with banners, receive a large logo on the shirts,
six free entries, six free shirts, and some free advertising
and radio. With US a five hundred dollar Gold sponsor,
you can provide two tables with banners, receive a medium
logo and a T shirts, four entries, four T shirts
and some advertising three hundred You get Silver sponsor. Provides

(20:47):
it one table with a banner and receive a small
logo on the T shirts, two free entries, two free
T shirts. One hundred hour Bronze sponsor. You get a
free entry and a free T shirt. So save the
date for that is Saturday, October twenty five, of twenty
twenty five. That's going to be held out at the park,

(21:08):
basically coming up at Centennial Park for the first time.
That's where it's going to be. Okay, So it's going
to start at seven am. You can register if you're
not ready to come in and get your T shirt
of him I got at then eight o'clock you're on
and you're ready to go. Okay, So that's it for
that one, And if you want to save the date
and make sure you do that. If you want some

(21:28):
more information, just give me a call at nine four
one four at four four three four one. You can
email in J basket Case at gmail dot com for Laura.
For more information, it's in j basket Case at gmail
dot com. Regarding the Runner Walk the rounds for Nursing
and helping raise money for nursing scholarships for the Charlotte
Harbor Roadary and at dates, save it on your calendar.

(21:49):
October twenty fifth, twenty twenty five. It's a five k.
You can run, you can walk, you can have fun,
participate and help raise money for the nursing scholarships and
help provide needed help when they're trying to get to
whether they're finishing up or moving up to be an RN,
whatever the case may be in the medical field. That
helps with the scholarships we provide. So keep that on

(22:10):
your calendar September twenty fifth for that or October twenty
fifth to twenty twenty five. Excuse me, so ten twenty five,
twenty five. It all goes together for that run our
walk arounds for nursing scholarships. Okay, so talking about that,
that covers those two events coming up. We're getting close
towards the end of the hour. Let's go over a
couple other things real quickly. What's happening rotary speakers had

(22:33):
a great speaker come in and talked about water for Life. Basically,
it's a water for life Mozambique, and that's drilling deep
water wells in Mozambique. Aren't in eastbourn Friend of ours
and friend of mine, the president CEO he and his
wife Joanne. He is the president CEO of the organization.
They do these wells in Mozambique. They're deep water wells.

(22:55):
They help provide water in these very very remote areas
in these underdeveloped countries to help a lot of people
do a fantastic job. You need more information on that,
you can contact Arnie at Arnie at W four l
m o z dot com or his phone numbers three
one seven four five nine two five six one get
more information from him. You can help you make a donation.

(23:18):
You can make a difference with the water hygiene and
all the things that clean safe drinking water we take
for granted and be provided from the safe deep water
wells that they're drilling, so keep that in mind for them.
That's a big biggie for that other things coming up.
We always have good speakers coming into the club. So
if you need more information about a meeting Tuesdays Charlotte

(23:38):
Harbor Roder at ih Hop seven thirty eight thirty, call
me at nine four one four at four four three
four one connect you up there, or if you want
the Roadery Club at Wellem Park they meet on the
second and fourth Wednesdays up at Wellham Park at the
camp Staff Financial Offices in downtown Wallhem Park. They meet
sixty seven on the second and fourth win Civy. It's
one so with that we're unclose on time, so I

(24:01):
want you to make sure you always lend a hand,
who the best you can. We'll be here again next Monday,
eleven thirty the nooon. It's let's talk with Stephen Carter.
Thank you very much for listening, and next week we'll
be talking more about Rotter and all the other things
that we're doing out there. So lend a hand, do
the best you can't have a great day.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
