Speaker 1 (00:00):
It's love acking guys on the voice of the Capitol
Regions sports fan Fox Sports ninety five.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
And you know this, this area is amazing. We rally
together whenever, whenever it needed. And you know one of
the guys who's helping that that exact thing happen right
now is the assistant chief over at the Colony Fire Department,
Chris van Buskirk. Chris, first of all, thanks for making time.
I know you guys are super busy. I love the
(00:27):
way I love I love your your house over there.
You guys got a great shop. I see yourself in
the jeep. You know, can I get it cheap?
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I mean, I'll put a good word in free absolutely.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
All right, well Chris, but all right there, they're a
very tragic happening took place in the Capitol Region. You
guys are getting together with Stanford Heights Fire Department. It's
called the South Side Scramble.
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Us. Tell us what we're doing and why we're doing it.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
So the South Side Scramble, I'll give you a little
history of it. The South Side of the Colony, Town
of Colony has always been together as a fire company,
and throughout the years we've always done a football game
between one of the departments. We've always called it the
South Side Scramble and it was always to raise toys
for Toys for Tots events. This game was was scheduled
(01:17):
a few weeks back with Stanford Heights. We were we
were set to do it for the Toys for TATSA
event again and as you said, that tragic event on
Saturday November two. We were all listening to what was
going on with on the accident on the north Way.
And after that accident, I got together with my fire
(01:38):
Captain Keith Fogg, who actually came up with the idea
in the beginning. He said, why don't we take all
the toys that were collecting and give it to mister
Dempsey who was a tow truck operator. He was severely
injured as well. He's gonna be out of work for
a while and he's got four kids, one of them
just a month old. And we thought, a great idea,
(02:00):
We're gonna take We're gonna take the toys, whatever we
raise up give it to the family for a great Christmas.
I contacted the chiefs and who was in charge from
Stanford Heights Fire Department. They were all in We were
all excited to do this. We never expected to get
this much of a support and uh, as you said,
we we support each other in the capital district here
(02:21):
and especially in the town of Colony, and the way
people have really rallied together for this event, it's become huge.
We've had people contact us that want to help. We
contacted mister Dempsey signific and other Marissa and formed her
what we wanted to do to try to get the
ages of the kids and you know what they needed,
(02:42):
so we buy you know, age appropriate gifts and she
was overwhelmed. She was very thankful and we got those
need the ages out to the people in the department.
And now other fire departments are joining in, other organizations
are joining in that really want to help, and this
has become a really huge event and a testament of
how we all come together as a community to help
(03:03):
each other out. We're also trying to get funds together
for Trooper Avendola. We know he's gonna have a very
long recovery. He's still in all many men his families
up here. They're being put up in a hotel so
they're close by to him through his recovery. So we're
also doing a fund drive that day, a boot drive
(03:25):
if you will, for whoever shows up to watch this event,
and all the funds we collect will go towards his recovery,
whether it's the family's needs for housing, food, any medical bills,
whatever we can help with. So we're trying to really
get this event to kick off to give them the
most help that we can.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
I love it. Chris van Busberg with us right now.
We're talking about the South Side Scramble which be going
on Saturday over at Cook Park. Starts at ten am.
Colony Village Fire Department versus Stanford Heights Fire. You guys
are a brotherhood like and nobody does what you guys do,
like nobody runs into fires. You know, you guys are
(04:08):
a little bit crazy, but a lot of bit heroes.
So the fact that you guys are able to do
this is like, I would support anything you're doing, but
to be able to do this for our community this time,
this is close to the holidays, we we appreciate it.
But I do have to ask one really hard question.
What's that you guys any good like this be a
good game?
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Well, I'll tell you, especially in the village of Colony,
we have been very blessed. This year, We've acquired a
lot of new kids who just joined the department. We
do an event at the high school every year, recruiting event,
and the last two years have been excellent for us.
We recruited ten kids over the last two years that
(04:49):
have fully put in and want to be firefighters. So
I got a bunch of young blood coming in on
Saturday that I'm very thankful for because us old guys
don't want to run around that much, so we're just
gonna give them the ball and let them run, so
it should be a great event.
Speaker 4 (05:03):
That was the best we'll see that.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
That felt like a real coach right there telling us
we're gonna find out how the action play.
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Well done, coach. That's what I'll say to that answer.
Speaker 2 (05:14):
Is Stanford Heights cut because, like so pel long, honest,
my father was an honorary member the Sanford Heights Fire
Department way back in the day. We were too far
away to respond to the to the siren, but he
was a big part of helping out back in the day.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
So so I remember those guys.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
I mean, they could tackle a keg back in the day,
but I don't know if they could tackle a ball care.
Speaker 3 (05:35):
They got some good guys out there. I'll tell you
they really stepped up their game. Uh the last time
we played with them, they did beat us, So it
should be a pretty interesting game.
Speaker 4 (05:43):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Man, for those listening across the Capitol region in upstate
New York, they're hearing about this, maybe for the first time.
How can they help if they can't go to the game,
but they're hearing about this, what's the best way to
reach out and help?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
So the best way if you can't get to the game,
If you want to donate, if you want to bring
toys by our firehouse, what we're gonna do is we're
going to collect everything for the week after the game,
so up to the following Friday. If you want to
drop it off to Colony Village Firehouse on Central ab
Stanford Heights, Firehouse on Central Ab down by the City
(06:15):
of Schenectady line, or you can mail them into any
of those two firehouses and we'll make sure that those
funds are all collected, all the toys are collected, and
we're gonna get into the appropriate families.
Speaker 4 (06:26):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Chris van Buskirk with us right now, Assistant Chief over
at Colony Village Fire Department. Chris Man, thank you for
doing this, Thanks for letting us be a part of it.
I'm gonna be there. I'm gonna try and drag guys.
Maybe maybe we can, you know, get guys to relive
his glory days. Got out there and block somebody.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
Hey, I'm down. You can be right on ourline any day.
Speaker 4 (06:45):
Look at that. That's gonna take a talent fee from me.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Chris.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
I don't know what's happening to your phone. It seems
like we're breaking up. Thank you for your time, all
for the calls. God guys, Thank you, Chris, best of
luck MANA Chris Man, thank you so much. We will
see you Saturday.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Excellent. See you guys, and thank you so much for
doing this. We appreciate you getting us on and allowing
us to explain what we're doing and making this a
great event for those two families.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Oh and you know what I bet you Hey, a
week after this, guys, they do a thing called the
Turkey Raffle where you sit down, eat, drink, and and
try to win turkeys and bottles of booze and stuff.
Speaker 4 (07:21):
I'm in for that. I'm for that big time for
that one.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
That is definitely more our athletic skill right there. We're
gonna have a great night that night. You're all invited
to come hang out with us.
Speaker 1 (07:33):
Absolutely, thanks Chris, gotch you later, man. I appreciate the time.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
Thank you, gentlemen. I have a great tax there, he goes.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
H Man, this is gonna be this is gonna be
a great time, like like, I don't know, have you.
Growing up, the fire department was a huge part of
my life, like even though again we were outside where
you could do it, but my dad was so tight
with the community, and like his best friend was was
Gary Boomhauer. I know boom are still around in the area,
and I know his kids are so like we were.
(08:01):
We were part of the Stanford Heights Fire Department, and
these guys, it has to because the seriousness of what
they do, you know, like you run into a burning
building and you try to bring people out, and when
they cut loose, they cut all the way loose.
Speaker 4 (08:17):
Like it's fun. I remember as a kid that the
firehouse in Lakeland, New York. I could ride my bicycle
down there, not walking distance, but enough for like a
seven or eight year old to get there right next
to the Little League field.
Speaker 1 (08:30):
And I remember, gosh, I was a boy scout and
they took us on a tour of the fire department
in the firehouse, and I was just like, whoa, Like,
this is stuff you see in books on TV shows.
This exists in my neighborhood. Maybe they did this for
the kids, but it's had an impact on me. Twenty
five thirty years later, you know, the actual fire truck
(08:50):
left the firehouse. WHOA, da, Dad, I thought a real
fire was happening.
Speaker 4 (08:56):
Now maybe it was. It didn't matter. It convinced me.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Is I remember that nearly thirty years later. So yeah,
the impact for what these guys are doing here locally
and back in your hometown with the family connection to this,
we hope that you're listening to, whether you're from colony
or not, they go out and support this unbelievable cause
that they're after this weekend and things changed and they
pivoted with this. It's I'm so glad we were able
to grab Chris for that time.
Speaker 4 (09:19):
Today.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Cook Park Saturday morning, ten am. Make sure you're there,
come on by even just drop by, throw some money
in one of the boots, or drop off a toy, whatever,
it is stop on by.
Speaker 4 (09:29):

Speaker 1 (09:30):

our podcast side more informations on there as well.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
All right, I want to man, hopefully we helped elevate this,
you know what I mean, as big as this is,
you know, listen, we were learning.
Speaker 4 (09:41):
We're learning how to elevate things.

Nice to our buddies over elevation ten thousand when you're
starting a business or when you're trying to get that

Speaker 4 (09:49):
Elevation ten thousands there for you.
Speaker 2 (09:51):
I was thinking about this, like, we have friends who
like they claim to fame, you know who, like they
help people who who want to be gamers how to
do this. How do like if I was doing anything
like that now, like if we were just launching the
show or like, you know, a podcast, I would go
right to Dave McCleod elevation ten thousand, and I'll be
all right, help me cut from from start to twelve
(10:12):
steps down the road. How do I get to that
point where I know I'm talking to the right people

wait for that.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
Chris is gonna be a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Speaking of great dudes in the Capitol Region, our guy
Sean Lockett'll be returning to the cap Region this season
for the Firebirds. He joins us next right here on
Fox Sports Radio ninety five nine and ninety eighty.
Speaker 1 (10:58):
Well back in guys on ninety Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (11:02):
We are joined by one of the true good guys,
not just in the world of sports, just a truly
good guy loved by the Capitol region. It threatens me
every single year that he's never coming back, he's done,
but we somehow like like you know, he's he's listeningly,
the godfather of Albany Fireberd football. Just when he thinks
he's out, we pull him back in Sean Lockett.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
What's up, big Locker?
Speaker 5 (11:24):
What's up? Guys? Are you happy to be here?
Speaker 4 (11:26):
Let's talk.
Speaker 1 (11:27):
Let's talk about the retirement thing. Is he Tom Brady?
Is he Tyson Fury? Take us through the mind of
Sean Locke, because you keep Capitol Region fans on their
heels every single wall season. Take us through what's talked
about you over the last few months and while you
decided to come back to football.
Speaker 5 (11:42):
Well, for the record, I want to make sure this
is correct. So I only retired twice, once after playing
with the Math Pirates and then this past season, so
I want to make sure that's clear. But well to
the end of you know, my career, I was like,
you know what, I can see the roster that coach
where in ownership is building, and it looks we're gonna
be walk away with this. I'm super confident in the
(12:04):
team that we you know, had last season, and the
chemistry and the culture and just that in the community
behind us. So I was I was dead set on
I'm walking I'm walking out of this thing. Uh, you
know whatever I think, and uh, I've kind of already said,
I'm aware that you know, this is it. I wanted
to transition in addition to coaching and you know, stick
(12:26):
the uh you know, that was really much my mentality
going into that season last season last year.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
So what you're so, you know, in a roundabout way,
we were lucky to have to try to play for
a championship in a mall on a backup kicker, because
otherwise we would have lost.
Speaker 5 (12:41):
You No, No, I think the thing is, you know,
we you know, we we dealt the adversity. So you know, again,
my biggest thing was, you know, I really was you know,
uh seeing the end me here and again, if you
know things, we obviously would be maybe having a different compeition.
But yeah, well.
Speaker 2 (13:00):
All right, se Sean Lockey with us right now, Fox
Sports Radio ninety five, nine, ninety eighty, coming back to
be the center for the Firebirds'.
Speaker 4 (13:08):
We're thrilled to have you back.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Like all kidding aside, You're a stabilizing influence. You're the
kind of guy that you want in the locker room,
you want in your community.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Like do you do.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
You pride yourself on that or Is it just come
naturally because obviously you put a lot of work in
your craft. But to be the guy you are, is
that just something that comes natural to you because I
try and I'm still a jerk.
Speaker 5 (13:29):
No, I mean it's just you know, shout out to
my mom and dad. You know, they're raised raised me
to be you know, an upstanding you know, intego young
and you know, I obvious say I love the game
of football. I got previous interview, you know, bringing a
game and a lot for me. This fos my NFL,
and so I made sure that you know, when I
strapped it up and put those the helmet pads on,
(13:49):
I gave it all I had. And then obviously community,
you know, the fans that we haven't in some special
so I think and just give back them and and
take second out to talk to them, science something, to
take a picture, et cetera, or you know, see them
out on the community, just to spend some time. You know,
football that's my big thing. So I just want to
(14:10):
get be that great humanitarian. I compute.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
It's amazing because I know I bumped into you at
the dog House in Clifton Park just on trivia nights,
me like se logets in the house, he's gonna chicken said, like,
it's not like I see it. You're connected with people
in the capital region. I have to admit, you're easily recognizable.
Not a lot of people have the muscle and the
mass like you. But I feel like you feel that
love when you're walking around the.
Speaker 4 (14:32):
Five one eight. I do.
Speaker 5 (14:34):
I love it. You know that blessed me to you know,
just the personality that I have obviously the giftings and abilities.
But you know, I've always said that, you know where
I started my career in Allentown, Pennsylvania with steel Hawks
and Albany, New York for both franchises, that those two
places will always have my heart. And you know, I said,
I love the community out there in Albany.
Speaker 4 (14:54):
Uh.
Speaker 5 (14:54):
You know, the fans are great. They're always you know,
uh saying up to date with what I have going
on personally. Just it's a great time and to play
it to be so I love it there.
Speaker 1 (15:04):
We talked a little bit and were joking around about
Tyson Fury and Floyd Mayweather, these athletes who have retired
but in the fight game they come back. And it
makes me think of you because and comparison to your teammates,
I feel like your training in the off season is
so much different than any of your teammates because you've
got to continue to build. You gotta have the walking
around way and the fighting weight. What's the off season
(15:25):
like for you?
Speaker 4 (15:25):
And does training start to change when you get closer
and closer to kickoff.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
So I will say that last season, in this season,
off seasons, they're going to be a little bit different.
They're gonna be a little bit more cardio and that
I could have done better or have missed.
Speaker 4 (15:40):
And just.
Speaker 5 (15:42):
Understand, I've played a bunch of really in it all
and just throughout my career, and you know, seeing you
know what they've done to the game and how long
they played and the success they've had. You know, I'll
always want to add that to my arsenal and just
you can always get better at your craft.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
Love it.
Speaker 2 (15:59):
Sean Lockett coming back to uh TO to get get
one more with us here in the Capital region. You
know you talked about the training, you talked about is
there you know, obviously there was a point where we
were talking about iron Man. Now it's unlimited substitutions. If
we were iron Man would would you still be coming back.
Speaker 5 (16:19):
I don't know. I don't know. I was, uh you know,
I was. I was very adamant before last season. I
was like, listen, I got maybe eight for you. I'm gassed. No,
but but no, my nigga is MATI. So I need
to do to ensure hope wep trophy at the end
(16:41):
of the season. So you know, again, I was a
team player last year, coach, where we'd be laughing off
and getting get back into the box when uh, you'd
see me after a few defensive reps. I mean, I
am in the I am in the stat book for
a few tackles. So I will uh, I will make
sure to mention that I.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
Love this guy.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Man.
Speaker 4 (17:00):
We're so happy, lock Man, We're happy you're back.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
You know, there's there's not many better guys than you,
and you just you raise the locker room. Everybody's a
little bit nicer, a little bit friendly, or a little
bit better when you're around, and we don't I wouldn't
want to do it without you.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
So let's go get one.
Speaker 5 (17:14):
Yes, sir, I appreciate you guys, you know, like I said,
truly blessed to have this opportunity and that uh, let's go,
let's go get in this year.
Speaker 2 (17:21):
It goes Big Lock man just like he is just
one of the nicest guys like he's and he's funny
man like he if you if he finally like you
got to get him, let his guard all the way
down around you to get his real sense of humor.
That dude's straight funny like and when we finally do
your five minutes to stand up, you may.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Want to get coached up by Big Lock. You may
want to have Big Lock coach up a little bit.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
Imagine that story about him locally like going to businesses.
And this is more of an indictment on the sport
of football that a lot of football players could walk
into places and people would have no idea who they are. Right,
you can play eight to ten years in professional football
and be like, uh and just get caught up her
you don't know.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Think about when we're at.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
Media night, it's it's the Super Bowl and we're walking around,
We're like, I know that guy plays for the team.
Speaker 4 (18:07):
I don't know who he is.
Speaker 1 (18:08):
I think that startles some people who are casual sports
into you might get ten like try that, try that game.
If you think you're a super sports fan, which I'm
sure you are listening right now. You might truly may
able to get twenty percent of the NFL they were
face mask. Yeah, but I bring that up about Sean
because when he walks into a room, there are already firebird.
Speaker 4 (18:29):
Fans who will recognize him.
Speaker 2 (18:30):
He's on of like like when you see somebody who's
really tall. There you go, would you what was you?
Speaker 4 (18:35):
Center? Basketball?
Speaker 2 (18:37):
He locke walks into a room, weightlifter, football player, like
what like like you know you're there's no doubt. Yeah,
that dude's built to push things. That dude is built
to push things around, whether it be defensive linemen, bar
bells or whatever. That's what that dude's built to do.
Speaker 4 (18:52):
I'm glad.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Also, he clarified at the start of the interview. Let
me for the records say, I've only retired to.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
US I know, two times too many, uh spoiler learned
at some point a third will come or a fourth.
Speaker 3 (19:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
Yeah, listen, I'll tell you if things go the way
I think they might go.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
This year, what do you see this roster? Wait, do
you see this roster?
Speaker 2 (19:11):
There's names that you're gonna learn for the first time.
But you won't learn, get you teasing, You won't learn
one other thing.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
And I hope Sean gets a chance to listen to
this conversation we had with him today when that conversation
happened at Chevy the press conference, and Sam castnov is awesome,
Brandon see say awesome.
Speaker 4 (19:30):
Coach s say awesome.
Speaker 1 (19:31):
When the name Sean Lockett was said, I could hear
oh smiles like smiles and straight like an actual noise
came from fans and I think a few media members
they wouldn't admit that an audible noise was heard when
coach ware said his name.
Speaker 4 (19:46):
Which is what a pretty cool compliment, you know what?
Actually a little known thing.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Sean Lockett is the king of the inside joke like
like and you so I say this about baseball teams
all the time, like you gotta have a thing like guys,
your years of playing football the offensive line, I guarantee
there was like code words and stuff that you guys
said that maybe the rest of the team didn't know,
but obviously anybody who wasn't a Hobart Statesman didn't know.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
I'll give you one er aft top of my head.
When you were in shotgun as the center. You had
to say out loud you were in shotgun. There could
be a swear term that starts a shotgun.
Speaker 4 (20:20):
Right, stuff like that. But like.
Speaker 2 (20:24):
The problem is that I used to think I was
in on some of these jokes, and I wasn't always
in on these jokes.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
So like I'd be like, yeah, we're this, and then
I'll be like, what are you not here? I mean, oh,
I'm sorry, But it's just it's such a good dude.
I'm excited.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
Also excited to tell you about our good friends over
it Mohawks, Chevre, Lie Locke Nose.
Speaker 4 (20:45):
Andy Goucher's a hell of a dude.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Andy Goucher just was like Time, did you see that
He's the Time.
Speaker 4 (20:50):
Dealer of the Year.
Speaker 2 (20:52):
I did see that, Like he's the car dealership dude,
he's the man.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
He's He's being recognized by major public. Now.
Speaker 2 (21:01):
That's how good Mohawk Chevrolet is. That's how great Andy
Gelcher is. The what he does, Andy Gelcher' is that
guy who motivates you, you know what I mean, Like,
that's who he is. He's and and he does that
for his entire salesforce. He does that for his finance department.
He does that for his service department, which means that
when you walk into Mohawk Chevrolet just offects the twelve
of the Northway.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
You've got a.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
Bunch of seriously motivated individuals trying to get you the
right deal. And it's not about cramming you into a
vehicle you're not gonna love, because then you're never gonna
come back.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
It's about finding you the perfect drive.
Speaker 2 (21:32):
I've had so many great conversations with Andy, Like there
was a point where he kind of like became my
mentor in between, like when I was doing radio all
that stuff. Now he's like my boss and we just
fight like cats and dogs. But he's he's always got
a purpose. He's always got a purpose, and he always
has a drive, and he always wants more, and he
wants it for you, not from you, He wants it
for you. And that's that's what you know toather Let's
(21:55):
drive and Ma Chevrolet is great. Always got out your
way to please you if Mohawk is great. But it's
like if I had to do a like a saying
for Andy Gelcher, he wants more for you. That's the deal.
When you go to Mohawks Chevrolet and we go to
Carbravo dot com, Andy Gelcher and the family at Mohawks Chevrolet.
They want more for you to experience that for yourself.
(22:17):
Just off X to twelve of the north Way together,
let's job at Mawuk Chevrolet, where they always go out
of their way to please you.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Lavac, I will fully admit I didn't do the math
rate on the five o'clock hour here. I have no
idea how long the segment's going to be. We're gonna
do probably some interesting stuff here to close out the show.
Speaker 2 (22:31):
Well, there's the something I want to discuss, and then
there's something you've been hinting towards that I just don't.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
I need to understand. I need I need to understand
what's going on. I can't get out of it. There's
too much time. Next next right here, Fox Sports Trader
ninety five.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
Nine and nine, it's Lavak and Guz on ninety five
nine Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
I love, I love how differently we all get to
the same like the same place sometimes you know what
I mean, Like like we all take different journeys.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Sometimes you get to the same decision.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
I'm I'm I'm thrilled for one of our colleagues, and
I'm and more thrilled for his son.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
And I love that local talent, stay in local. Maybe
maybe maybe.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
It feels like it feels it feels good, right Brady Wiland,
who is you know has really stepped out and become
a star receiver from my alma mater.
Speaker 4 (23:32):
Well is it still Yeah, he's a colony wolf pack, but.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
He he tweeted out that quote, I'm beyond excited doing
and this is a couple of days ago now he
tweeted this out, but it's it's just catching I I
sadly don't follow Brady.
Speaker 4 (23:51):
I don't.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
I don't follow out of college kids on X. I
don't know you you make what you will from that.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
I don't know you're not trying to edge to the
Division III programs or he one double A f c
s like I am.
Speaker 4 (24:02):
I don't want to.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
Look super creepy. Just follow a bunch of college high
school kids online. That's I guess That's where I'm at.
Here's what Brady Wyland said on X. I'm beyond excited
to announce that I have received a Division one offer
from Albany Football. Huge thanks to coach Katuso. Coach YACKI
(24:24):
h ua for believing in me. Can't wait to see
what the future holds hashtag u A you know. And
a picture of Brady Wyland with Greg Gatusso Brady Willer
is taller than Gatuso.
Speaker 4 (24:37):
That's saying something right there, you know. And and.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
I had I seen that, I would have texted our colleague,
our former co worker, Roger Wilder, been like, bro, congrats again,
you know. And because I got a chance to talk
to him, and he when he when when Brady got
Player of the game, like we love the post game interview,
I don't. I don't think I even got a chance
to tell you this. So I brought it up to
(25:05):
Roger when we were doing the Firebirds press conference, and
he was like, this is like a great moment for me.
Speaker 4 (25:10):
He goes.
Speaker 2 (25:10):
Because I he goes, I go over to the coaching
and I go, hey, who's who's the player of the game.
Speaker 4 (25:15):
He's like, Roger, it's Brady, Like look what he did today?
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Like and he goes. And I didn't want to say it.
You know, it's my son. I didn't want to be
the one to say my son should be the player
of the game.
Speaker 4 (25:22):
He goes.
Speaker 2 (25:23):
I was thinking of you know, this one or this one,
and he goes, And I had no idea he was
gonna call me dad. He goes cause I did. I
never said my son, Brady, I was. I wanted, you know,
to keep it. He goes.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
So that was that was a special moment that felt
really good for me. So congratulations, Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
So I had a similar conversation with Roder because we're
talking local sports. We're talking to you all, but he
we're talking Hell. And I said to him, I said, hey,
has Hobart reached out to Brady yet? Because I know
his kid can play, and I know Hobart just want
the Liberty.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Offered him a spot on the Firebirds. So like we're
both football fans. We've watched enough Taylor Comper, Like I
know he can play. So I asked to be yeah,
like not yet.
Speaker 1 (26:00):
I said, how about coach Jirac who I played for
a Union, And He's like, well, not yet.
Speaker 4 (26:04):
So it's like, Okay, that call is gonna come soon.
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Usually when you're going through the recruiting process, either in
mid season or when December hits and kids start figuring
out how their grades look. So I'm not going that's not.
That's really not It's very common, let's say. And then
I saw the story, I'm like, hey, there's no Division
two football programs in upstate New York or in New
York and general, so like either you're gonna be an
FCS kid or a D three kid, maybe D one,
(26:27):
you know, maybe go to prep school.
Speaker 4 (26:29):
So I sell the story too. I'm like, way to go,
Like this is awesome. You're all my matter.
Speaker 1 (26:33):
We know coach Katuso, we know Roger, we know coach Fiaki.
I I've known coach Faccin he was seventeen sixteen. It's like, wow,
I know a lot of these people. But there is
a reason we brought it up today, or you brought
it up because I didn't want to talk about this.
Speaker 4 (26:50):
I know, we got like twelve minutes to go. I
should have read the run down. I wrote something else here.
But now we're in it. Go ahead, go ahead, why
do we bring it up?
Speaker 2 (26:59):
It was reported by Times Guian's Mark singles and he
posts you Albany Football offers colonies, Brady Wiland, son of
w NYT Channel thirteen sportscaster, and you already played by
place voice Roger Wiland, and then retweets it, and the
(27:27):
reason it's become kind of viral locally is, you know,
Mama bear going to do Mama Bear things. Brady's mother,
Kelly Lynch Wiland ply of w g Y yep. And
also many do you thinks your dad was a sports legend,
legend in the area. Quote have you seen his stats?
(27:48):
About to set the all time single season receiving record
for the school and could break a thousand yards for
the season.
Speaker 4 (27:56):
So there's that.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Basically implying that Mark single as was implying that Brady
Wiland was the main reason Brady Wyland was offered was
his last name, not what he's done on the field.
Speaker 4 (28:11):
Would you like to step in now?
Speaker 1 (28:12):
There was more back and forth, and then she wrote back,
you and I both know that's not why you mentioned it,
And Mark wrote, you don't know what.
Speaker 4 (28:19):
I think.
Speaker 1 (28:20):
Scholarships are valuable and I don't believe coach could TUSO
would just offer one because of an athlete's father. If
that's what you're getting at, I assumed your son can play.
She wrote back, thank you for clarifying, Mark, have a
great day.
Speaker 4 (28:32):
Uh yeah, and.
Speaker 1 (28:37):
Go ahead, Okay, let's add a little bit more I
think it's gonna be interesting.
Speaker 4 (28:41):
I think I think you and I historically.
Speaker 2 (28:46):
Have taken some issues with some of the ways Mark
Singlets has reported things. You know, I've I've called him
e or like he likes to find the negative and
things I don't feel like you feel like he deserved
what he got.
Speaker 1 (29:01):
No, I don't, and I have to get off for
the context. Kelly used to work for WGY. I'm the
program director for WGY. I have never spoken her. I've
never I.
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Would like to. I think I've talked to her in
passing maybe three times.
Speaker 1 (29:15):
I have been literally like hi, Hi, I would say,
over the course of WGY the last fifteen to twenty years.
I've been here for two years. I think I've spoken
to every single person who's been on the air here
at least once. Every single person from Joe Gallagher to
Chuck Custer, who's in the Hall of Fame, everybody, the
late Mike Patrick, every single person except Kelly.
Speaker 4 (29:33):
I don't we just haven't cross pass Yeah, you know,
she just doesn't.
Speaker 2 (29:36):
Work here like the whole where Fox Roger's ESPN, right,
you know, don't we don't exactly run the exact same circles.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
I said to Roger, I said, hey, I would love
to talk to your wife at one point because she
probably has stories of working here of like she could
you know, hey, when I worked at WGY bopup bop this.
I mean, hey, that's only benefiting me. And you know me,
I'm a radio junkie. That stuff really doesn't matter to me. Okay,
so that context is out all true. What are we doing, Kelly,
(30:04):
he's a reporter.
Speaker 4 (30:05):
You know this. He just mentioned like you got an offer.
He's the father, his father's this. That's it.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
He didn't imply anything. He just shit, he got a
little too sensitive on this one. You know, I'm a parent,
she's a parent. You're a parent, Like my kid's four,
not a teenager. I haven't gone through this in life,
so I'm trying to like put my hands up and
be like, I haven't lived this yet.
Speaker 4 (30:26):
But from somebody who has a bunch of younger.
Speaker 1 (30:28):
Kids, Bistell's like whoa very defensive, very sensitive for no
reason other to be sensitive and defensive.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
The only so I can definitely if we didn't have
a history of both of them, I would one hundred
percent agree with you. But I will say that like
he could have you had more characters left for the chamber.
You could have wrote, you know, wild has had a
standout season and is son of But all he did
(31:01):
he didn't talk about any of the football accolades. He
just said his dad is a big deal in the media.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
I'm gonna defend on this one, and I think that's so.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
I think that's like, I think it's good.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
I would assume being offered a scholarship to an FCS
football program would be a good enough note of this
kid's good.
Speaker 4 (31:23):
But maybe not. Maybe I'm maybe I'm in the minority on.
Speaker 2 (31:26):
That, but you you do know, like locally people were
gonna say, no, you know what I got in his
dad's a big deal over there?
Speaker 1 (31:38):
Would it helped if his twitter or other said that
he's got offers from New Hampshire, Villanova, Hobart, whatever to
offer means D three, like, hey, these are the other
schools that he considered.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
Then he made Maybe. I think I think the.
Speaker 2 (31:49):
Issue with the with the post is the meat of
the post is that he's the son of Roger Wiland.
I think if that was a footnote on the post,
then then I'm one hundred percent behind you.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
Then I'm like, you know what you know, Mama barg
got a little riled up.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
Calm down, It's okay, But I do I can see
where I might react the same way I might, because again,
you know, and Mark has you know, sometimes unfairly been
criticized by me, but he does have a history of
kind of like finding the negative part of a story
(32:26):
and living there.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Mark this down. November sixth, twenty twenty four. If God willing,
ten or fifteen years from now, they haven't thrown you
and I off the air by then, and one of
my boys is lucky enough to get potentially offered by
Eddy school, Baseball, football, basketball, whatever sport. I promise you
I will not go on Twitter and argue with reporters
for a headline like that, because here's what else could
(32:51):
have happened. And maybe this is what I do for
a living, not just program direct for guy, but you
and I talk in sports for a lot. Let's say
a reporter went on and said, Kazlowski can't block another technique,
he needs work, Gazlosky got blown up on that play.
He's getting his lunch eaten by so and so. Gazlosky
blew the coverage. She didn't I would be.
Speaker 4 (33:09):
More likely to argue that stuff like no, no, he
didn't cover so and so. Hey, that was a bad foul.
Speaker 1 (33:15):
In the second, criticizing actual play during the game, Okay, hey,
Gazlosky act like a punk when he.
Speaker 4 (33:21):
Was talking trash.
Speaker 1 (33:22):
Those things that happen in sports that feel like fair
play might tick off a parent more than my kid
got offered a scholarship.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
I'm gonna complain about it publicly.
Speaker 2 (33:31):
Now here's here's where, here's where I think you and
this is and again I've I've to say that I
know Kelly Lynchwiland. It's literally like we've been in the
same room maybe three times, and it's always a cordial Hey,
I have very nice like whatever, and I think she
has not.
Speaker 4 (33:49):
She I don't know.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
I guarantee you she never had any idea who the
hell I was. But you have to remember her background
very different than your background.
Speaker 4 (33:56):
Yes, because she.
Speaker 2 (34:01):
Was accused of being a neo baby because her dad
was a legend, and then her husband is a big
deal and she was a big deal too. She's probably
heard all along while Brady gets special treatment in baseball
because Roger is a coach and this and that and
Brady gets this. Because of this, She's probably heard this
all along to the point where whether or not Mark Bennett,
(34:21):
she probably saw a neo baby like I. And again
I don't if she hadn't written anything good, good for
you if she, but the fact that she did, I
can see myself doing the exact same thing.
Speaker 4 (34:37):
Yeah, and I can see myself.
Speaker 2 (34:39):
And the only thing I think the difference between her
and I is I would have made it a joke
and Mark would have tried to ignore me.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
The problem you and I know this. The problem is
not with the kid like he can play that. I
told you that last year. I'm like, you know, Rogers
kid can ball. This kid can go that. That's not
even a discussion. And by the way, he hasn't signed
with you, Albany, he might.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
Get other clarity.
Speaker 2 (35:02):
I think it's gonna be one of those deals where
he can he find a place where he can still
kind of play around with baseball.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
Yeah, like, look, he's had a lot of options. It's awesome.
Speaker 1 (35:09):
The problem I had with it was that a local
public figure argued with another local public figure what no
longer in the spot, like doing something else out of
side of media.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
I couldn't believe it. I actually somebody got hacked.
Speaker 2 (35:20):
We've done it for way less. We've done it for
way less, And I get like, I think like you
have a certain reverence for football, you have a certain
reverence for media. I think you you may or may
not have put her on some kind of a pedestal
because she used to be on g y And also
but at the end of the day, she a mom
(35:43):
and her whole life, she's heard people get special opportunities
because who their parents are, and she ain't gonna sit
by and even let that be insinuated about her kid.
The number one part of this, and this is when
it's also done. The more attention it gets, the better
because because what this boils down to for me is
local talent staying local.
Speaker 4 (36:03):
Yes, and that's awesome.
Speaker 2 (36:05):
So even if it started off in a negative way,
the fact that local talent staying local is getting attention.
Speaker 4 (36:11):
I'm thrilled.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Let me put this sound here for coaching potentially staying local. Yes,
and he can play. He's very good. Whether it's wide receiver,
whether it's slot, all that's good. Let me put this
ound here for coach Catuso, Coach Fiaki coach Rocket Union
coach Burkett Skidmore.
Speaker 4 (36:26):
My son is four right now.
Speaker 1 (36:29):
If you want to offer him any type of scholarship
or money, daycare is expensive.
Speaker 4 (36:34):
I will take it now and not complaining. Now, think
about it like this. What if you spent your.
Speaker 2 (36:42):
The next twelve years and you're you know, and you
and and Jordan, your great parents, and that the sister,
your dad, You're all involved in everything Rex and Wes
and baby Trace do, and then you start hearing it, well,
the only reason Rex is getting certain opportunities is his
(37:02):
parents are involved in all this crap. He's not as
good as my kid, He's not whatever. And like you're
gonna sit there and go, you're gonna it's gonna roll
off your shoulders a couple of times. Then all of
a sudden, maybe this happens. Maybe you see the report.
Maybe it's me. Maybe I start the show with Guz's
kid got in. His name is Rex, and he earned it,
and it just boils over. It just boils over.
Speaker 4 (37:26):
I hope that spot.
Speaker 1 (37:28):
I really I would like to say I wouldn't react
like that, but I'm.
Speaker 4 (37:33):
Not in it yet. I don't know.
Speaker 2 (37:34):
I don't know I would And again it's like this
is I think part of this is is not just
like because I've seen it all. I grew up here,
I saw it, I saw I remember people like I
remember dudes going oh yeah, that's well, yeah, you know
her her dad was basically the original Roger and then
she marries a Roger and that's why she And it's
(37:55):
like i've heard her. She's good, like she knows what
she's doing, like and now this and like whatever. And
also because my daughter's twenty one, so I've seen it,
like I've seen people go, oh, well, his kid gets
special treatment.
Speaker 4 (38:08):
Uh if I get the chance, damn right she does.
Speaker 2 (38:11):
But you know what I mean. So it's like I
can kind of see it different. And and again I
hope I hope you're right. I hope that when you
when it's all said, none, you go whatever, I don't care,
and you're you're a little bit more water off off
the back, So I think you'd be more mad here here. Wait,
I know how to I know how you would. Guys
would have argued with that post if if Mark Single,
(38:35):
as wrote rex Keslowski, actepts off.
Speaker 4 (38:39):
For to you all but to play football and never
cites that it was set on our show.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
Yes, and I need a link. Yes, you know tick
that be Come on, we.
Speaker 4 (38:57):
Did a lot on that. I like that topic. You
know what I didn't. I think we're gonna like it.
I liked that much.
Speaker 1 (39:00):
And if anybody's you know, if the wilds end up
listening to this, I'm not talking to Kelly.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
I like Roger Lot. I like his son. I've never
been him before. He can play.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
This became a local story today because of sing Lace
and her going back and forth. You guys gave us material.
I didn't think we'd do it. We'll put it in
the public for two sports talk radio hosts locally in Albany.
You put some meat into the old can there. We
decided to take a few bucks.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
And I gotta be I gotta be perfectly honest with you.
I really want Brady on this show at some point.
Speaker 4 (39:27):
Yeah, and he's again from your Ala Water, your school.
We covered a gamer and I.
Speaker 2 (39:32):
Love Gato So and I you know, I actually heard
gatu So today talking about basically kind of what we
were saying, like, you know, like.
Speaker 4 (39:39):
The team is getting it.
Speaker 2 (39:41):
Took a little time to get everything together and now
we're running into things. But Yeah, you get local talent
out there making big making big plays, making big names.
I'm gonna be a happy boy. Or he can go
to Geneva coach the wall. But on the phone, I
don't want that. I don't want to have to drive
to your neck of the woods to watch local kids play.
Speaker 4 (39:59):
What was the other thing? What you actually did right? Actually,
you don't want of time to stup wrong today?
Speaker 1 (40:03):
What happened with Danielle in the office today about her
husband and you?
Speaker 4 (40:07):
Oh that was yesterday? What happened with this? I don't
This is the thing she asked me.
Speaker 1 (40:12):
She goes, did Levank talk to you about what he
said about my husband? When I said about my husband?
And I'm like, I don't know anything you're talking about,
but I know five thirty five. I just put it
in the run. Eye put hers that he put that
in the run.
Speaker 4 (40:22):
That's what stuck.
Speaker 2 (40:23):
We had a whole conversation about So like Danielle's she's
maybe I don't think she's our newest hire, but she's
she's one of the newest salespeople we have. Like she's
and and it's I love her intensity for it, like
she wants to make it work for everyone like she's
(40:44):
still got there's there's.
Speaker 4 (40:45):
I love telling the old story. Our friend Lynn.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
I went on a sales call with her and she
was the first person I ever heard in the sales
meeting go what's not working? And the client at the
time future client got angry, like, what do you mean
it's not where everything's working? I worked, But it was
like She's like, no, no, no, I'm not in So I'm
saying that what aren't you what what do you need
that you don't have? Because otherwise I wouldn't be sitting here.
Every other sales meeting I ever went on in the first
(41:07):
question was how much money do you have? Danielle's one
of those people who's gonna be like, Okay, how can
I help you?
Speaker 4 (41:13):
And then let's talk numbers drive him from sogerties every
single day.
Speaker 2 (41:16):
I love it and I think she's I think she
I love working with her. She and she wants to
make the office a more fun place. And we had
a full like it was like it was what started
as just like hey, I appreciate you turn into like
a weird like big brother Pep talk. But in the
middle of it all, like she was talking about like
our new boss. He's like, I want to know you're
why why do you want to be here? And she said,
(41:37):
you know, I want I want to be able to
take my family vacations. I want to take my hot husband.
I was like like, h and she looked at me
and I was like, I was like, like I would
think I like she, I would put her as the
trophy of that relationship. Nothing against him whenever register Huh
really okay?
Speaker 4 (41:56):
And then she's like, well, you don't think my husband's hot.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
I'm like, well, I wouldn't do him, and she's like
looking at me crazy, and then like she showed me
like with pictures like well what about here?
Speaker 4 (42:05):
Well, I'm like, you're not convincing me. I'm not he's
not my type.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
I don't know what to tell you, Like I don't know,
And like there's a point where she showed a whole
picture of him and he's got like he looks like
the old uh, the old cartoon drawings of like the
Incredible Hulk. He's got the same hair and a whole nine.
And I'm just like, I don't, like, I don't know
what you want me to say, like nothing against him,
like he's I'm glad.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
I think it's a I think it's awesome. You think
your husband's hot. He's just not my type.
Speaker 2 (42:29):
And I just I we had never spoken about him before,
so I didn't think the first thing out of her mouth,
like tell me about her husbands gonna be this hot.
Speaker 1 (42:36):
I don't know why it caught me like this makes
more sense. Okay, now it makes more sense.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
I can't believe she ran to you and told on
me for saying that her husband.
Speaker 2 (42:44):
I didn't. I didn't want to. I didn't want to
have relations with her husband.
Speaker 1 (42:47):
Oh it all makes sense now why she came to
me Because her husband's a big man. He's a big fella.
He's a big guy, is he? So I think she thought, hey, well,
acking guys are big guys. They're gonna look at my
husband and embrace a fellow big man.
Speaker 4 (43:02):
Oh dude, I would.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
They're like, you know what, they're all gonna be on
the same team. They all got beards, they all got big,
broad shoulders, they're all big guys. They all think they
looked as they all look the same. They got backwards hat.
This is like, that's what I think she was. If
you're a fellow big guy, he looks great. We all
look great, Like.
Speaker 4 (43:18):
Don't tell me he's hot. I guess, like, I don't,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (43:22):
It was just it was it was just, it was weird,
and I didn't think anything of it. Afterwards, I went
right out with my business. So she went, she went,
She went, crying to gods, I didn't like, you want
me to flirt with your husband when I see him? Like,
what are we talking about here?
Speaker 4 (43:37):
He's a good looking man, Damien, is he? I guess,
I don't know. I haven't. Love is in the air.
He's your type. I don't know. I didn't. We now
have to leave if we've gone far over, because you know,
in riches now.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
We've discussed nepotism, We've discussed the attractiveness of the spouse,
like all right, your I think your wife is beautiful,
the whole nine. I love that, like you know what
in a tall woman? Come on now, burly dude, not
my type. Wrong, guys, I don't know what to tell you.
It's not gonna work.
Speaker 4 (44:06):
No offense tovin know and rich I'm sure we'll lost
your hands
