It's Lovak and guys on the Voiceof the Capitol Region Sports Fan Fox Sports
ninety five, nine and nine eighty. No stolen, Get out of here,
Covino and Rich forever. I waswalking out the door and I heard
us again. Well I just saygoodbye, oh man. All right,
Well, you know it's it's it'sfun. The Welcome to the Third Hour,

(00:21):
Lavacka goes from now till forever. We hope Cavino and Rich fans they'll
be back on at six o'clock. So if you're a Cavino and Rich fan,
we've now expanded to three hours.Welcome. This is us. Nothing
stolen from this segment. This isus originally talking to you. Ready to
talk whatever you want. Phone linesare open, social media is open.
Everything's open here in the third Hour, lavack and guys. I don't want

(00:44):
to all right, Tommy Corporate andPresident Grinder. I want to be very
clear as I say these nice things, I still want way more money.
It means a lot. It meansa lot. That I was on the
couch, I wasn't doing sports talk, hadn't done it in about two years,
you know, guys, and andbig Al. Big Al was the
sales guru. Big part of gettinggetting back in the door, coming over

(01:07):
here, having some fun. PresidentGrinder had to convince you I wasn't.
I wasn't. I wasn't a biggerproblem than a solution. You are a
secret agent. But this is abig compliment to get another hour. It
has more fun. To be talkingto you while you're driving home means a
lot. So again, I stillwant I still want a huge raise.

(01:29):
I want a gigantic race because todaywas a really rough day in firebirds Land,
and if I could walk out ofthat, I would love to just
be a helper over there in themorning. But I can help there for
three to five hours, come hereand do a full day of work here.
That's what I would like to do, because talking about running a football
team is way more fun than runninga football team. That's out there for
you. But no, I justwant to say thanks, hopefully, and
for those of you who've been listeningalready giving us like everything from good ratings,

(01:53):
the compliments to you know, usingsupport, the sponsors, that's huge,
who knows, who knows. What'smy understanding is this show could grow
faster than my waistline, and thatthat's big that's a lot, man,
Tell your friends, tell your familymore. We're into the third hour,

(02:13):
so you have different options across theCapital region. When you're driving home,
We've getten calls about the Northway allday, we get calls about the eclipse.
So again, pre set it onyour dial, tell your family,
listen on demand, all that greatstuff. Yeah, all it took was
a world changing eclipse and an earthquake, and here we is, world's gonna
end. Might as well give Levacand guys a third hour, let's say

(02:35):
some time, just very very veryexciting. And do you want to do
like the non Stinko Sinco. We'lldo like a new Top five type bil
non Stinko Cinco. We'll steal backthe top five that we have come back
to us college kids. That's ourthing. I want to talk you know,
this is weird. I, asan Oriole fan, want you to

(02:55):
talk about the Yankees and where it'sgoing right now because I see the als
and I'm a little concerned in April'smaybe not the right word, but shocked,
surprised, startled by what's going onhere. And I think some of
that starts with the team that isthe New York Yankees. How are you
feeling after the Yankee performances? Bythe way, shout to our guy Jake

(03:16):
and Sales, who was at thegame over the weekend. A great old
time. Thanks for the invite,Jake. Yeah, that's the the I
gotta get to it. I gottaget to a Yankee game. I mean,
that's that's first and foremost, isn'tit. I feel I feel so
left out. Everybody else I knowhas gone to a game or two,
but I'm you know, seventy threejobs. You don't get to go to
a bunch of games. I listen, this is a team that I believed

(03:38):
in. Did I believe eight andtwo? Did I believe they would win
their first three series? I hoped, but I didn't. I mean,
that's man. When you can startagainst real talent, you know, there's
there's there's no no days off. When you're taking on the Astros, the

(04:00):
NL defending champ Diamondbacks, the BlueJays, who are built kind of to
play the same style of ball youplay, just not quite as well apparently,
And now you're taking on the Marlins. The Marlins are a team that
seems to overperform, and you're eightand two going in this thing. You've
won all three series. Listen, you want to win the series. Every
time you win a series, you'rethat much closer to having a great season.

(04:24):
So to sweep, win a series, lose a game, win a
series. Now hopefully with another seriesthey keep winning series. It's over.
Bulpe is amazing. I love watchingVolpe play. I like watching him talk.
I like watching them play. Judgeis finally starting to wake up a
little bit. It's Stanton hit ahome run. Stanton either hits a home
run or it looks like a nineyear old man swatting in a fly like

(04:44):
there's no mid ground for gian Carlostan right now. But it's just I
like the way the team is built, and I think they're only gonna get
better. Let's flip back to volpicbecause I like that conversation surrounding this young
player who's been impactful, Derek Jeter. For as long as everyone talks about
infield, there's in particular and guyswho were standing out, and of course
Jeter are a shortstop. The thoughtis, here's where the bar's been set.

(05:05):
Now, whether it's fair or unfair, this is what you get as
a pin stripe contributor. Here's wherewe want you to be now. Gior
Gorris is the first one who hadto follow Jeter, and there were more
players after that. But even thoughJeter set the bar that's been happening for
the Yankees forever, somebody had tofollow Mickey Mantle, somebody had to follow
Babe Ruth. We could run throughthe positions of Hall of Fame type player

(05:28):
who someone had to follow and seewhat they could do after Vaultpe wasn't the
first, though, it almost kindof like benefited him, like, all
right, let Jeter get into theHall of Fame, let Cheter do his
thing. Let's let another young playercome through now that the expectations are coming
back to reasonable. Oh Man,that's another good play by Faalpe. Oh
Man, that's another. He issettled into the role of what he can
be in this Yankee lineup so wellin comparison to the other guys who judge.

(05:54):
The expectations rose when he became anMVP caliber player, Stant because of
the contract, Cole, because ofwhat was surround him. But of course
he's injured right now. The Yankeeshad to find their roles, and I
know that sounds really cliche, almostpatriot like, but it's true. This
is what we need you to do. If you do this, we're gonna
be just fine. If you dothis, you're gonna be just fine.

(06:14):
And why it's doing all those thingsI just said moments ago, startled scared
about what the Al East looks like, is because that seems to be the
strength of this whole division, likethe Boston Red Sox. Red Sox fan,
thank you for giving me two wholedays without an anger email. Appreciate
that the Red Sox have like noname pitching staff right now and they're winning
games and playing well. Baltimore wasin a battle with Pittsburgh over the last

(06:39):
few days with some x trading games. I'm gonna say that's a past for
now for the Orioles because it seemslike Pittsburgh's way better. Credit to Junior
who said that Mohawk honned a fewweeks ago. Wouldn't you wouldn't have agreed
with him if you're making your teamno chance and Pittsburgh looked good. Toronto,
Lad Junior is still smashing dingers, but Toronto's hard to figure out.
Maybe samp is finally gonna fall back, but what's happening is these teams are

(07:03):
so close to each other it's gonnabe a battle from first to fifth all
the way through the season. Thateven after a small sample size of games,
the biggest compliment I can give theYankees are, these guys have certain
roles. They have to figure outthese guys. This guy's an infield hitter,
this guy's the power hitter. Thisguy's good defensively. And when you
get close games and you're really goodat one or two things, that could

(07:26):
be the separator. And that's tome. I don't want to give the
Yankees the benefit over the Orioles, but that's the biggest complent I can give
them in this small sample size.So far, it's almost too going to
be true. Like I'm trying notto be. I'm People love when I
throw a fit and become pinstry pantsand over the top Yankee fan. They
love it. Some people hate it. It is what it is. I

(07:48):
don't normally care, but for somereason I find myself caring because I want
I just want to enjoy this ridefor as long as I can. Because
again, if you told me theywere going to be better than people,
I'd be like, Okay, Isaid that, I feel pretty good.
If you told me that they weregoing to go two and two against the
Astros and then win the series againstthe Blue Jays and the Diamondbacks, which

(08:13):
would put them at what six andsix and the three six and three to
start the season, I'd be thrilled. I'd be over the moon eight and
two or six and four. Theywould be eight and two, eight and
two with a sweep of the ofthe dreaded Astros's im I'm over the moon.
Now over the moon. I wantto be over the stars. Okay,

(08:35):
So now here's where we get interesting. I need a better closer.
I need Tommy Cainley healthy. Ineed Garrett Cole healthy. I need those
dudes to come out and be healthy. And I just need a little bit
more in this lineup, a littlebit more behind judge. Okay, I
don't need to be judgmental, buthe would have way better if he wasn't
afraid of her, if they peoplewere afraid of Jock Ohost and Anthony Rizzo.

(08:56):
And you might have to move allpay up this listen step in my
office. Uh boom, I wantto talk to you real quick. Move
all pay up. What are youdoing because if you look at it,
it's so amazing the way valpe ishitting with generally like Trevino or somebody behind
him who wasn't hitting the ball atall, but he's still finding contact.
He's still hitting the ball right now. You got Glabor Torres, who's very

(09:20):
good start to the season. Behindhim. You got Juan Soto, who
was off to a phenomenal start theseason. Behind him, you have Aaron
Judge, who, even though heis off to a one ninety four average
to start the season, seven hitson thirty six at bats. It's Judge.
Everybody's afraid if you put somebody onbase before him, he's gonna go
yard. You're down two, you'redown three. Behind him is Stanton Stanton

(09:43):
two nineteen. But that's just recentlystarting to wake up. Nobody's really afraid
of Stanton again. If you getit, if you're good movement on your
pitches, he looks, he lookslike Frankenstein trying to swat a butterfly.
It's it's just not gonna work out. And then Rizzo. I think Rizzo
will come back eventually. But Valpey'sfourth one. He's been fourteen hits,
thirty three at bets. Imagine ifyou put vault sneak him up in behind

(10:07):
Judge. Now all of a suddenybody'slike, all right, we better pitch.
We gottera pitch Judge little bet. We're gonna give Judge little samn out
here. It's it's weird to putVaulpe in this role of Yankee fame.
Maybe he doesn't even realize this becauseit's been happening so often and it's almost
forgotten that you needed somebody to takethat next step. You needed somebody to

(10:28):
step up and be that player thatwhen they're pitching around Judge and Stanton's not
getting the pitches that he can dodamage with, who's the next guy?
DJ the Mayhew hit had a glimpseof that. DJ the Mayhew was an
MVP candidate, no doubt, Butthe role Aaron Hicks was supposed to be
that almost supplemental is not the rightword, but off the bench isn't the
right word. You know what I'mtalking about here, though, Like the
next level, the next tier ofgoods. Somebody to step up and make

(10:52):
a play and make a hit ata big at bet. That wasn't happening.
Uh, They thought Clint Frazier. They thought it could be Gary Sanchez.
There were so many guys who wentthrough the lineup that could be Greg
Bird. There was a serious conversationyears ago that Greg Bird was going to
be that at BT and that playerfor the Yankees. Vaultpa seems to be
fitting the role better than anybody who'sbeen trotted out there the last seventy years

(11:13):
of not superstar but need the bighit guy. Okay, now I'll take
you back to something you said, and I don't even know if you realize
how much you were on my pagewith this. So like you, you
did the whole vulpe being the nextguy after Jeter kind of thing. So
Jeter, everybody not named George Seimbrunnerwas in love with Jeter, drafted him
high. You know, he had, he had a down start. They

(11:37):
wanted to stick with him, theywanted to fight through it. Steimburn wanted
to trade him with all those things. So Jeter worked his butt off to
come back. Jeter was never Hewasn't what those other guys were. Because
when you talk about the Greg Birdsof the world and those those sweets that
Cliff Fraser swing at Yankee stadium.Oh, everybody just envisioned seventy home runs

(11:58):
with Jeter, or everybody just envisionedabove average. Actually beginning it was stellar
defense, and it became average toslay the below average when he got older.
But people like to harp on thatwith some of the genius defensive stuff.
Just Captain Clutch, just out therehitting the ball, playing two man
baseball. If he got on,Bernie got him the third. If if

(12:18):
somebody was ahead of him, hemoved him along. Whatever he was,
he did all the things right,He worked on all the things, and
on top of it all, hewas the perfect New York City sports star
because however he did it, hekept all his his dirty laundry behind the
closet door. No one's been ableto do that before a since, you

(12:41):
know what I mean, And andhe did it. Volpe comes up earlier
than wanted. Everybody was like, you know, he's close, but we
we're gonna give We're gonna give arunner early. He fights his way in
the lineup. Last season, heplateaus hard, like they figure him out,
just like pitching pitchers do. Everyreport I've heard is that dude felt

(13:01):
sorry for himself. Zero seconds longand then got to work, got to
work, and that's why he's goingto be a star for this team for
a long time to come, inmy opinion. You know, they also
didn't mess with him the way theymessed with Andrew harr and everybody else where.
They move them all over the diamond. Where do I need him today?
Where do I need me yesterday?Whatever? This is, here's our
short sut. Let's go, let'sget him out there. And it's been

(13:24):
great gold glove last year he gota good glove and now we're talking about
him like he just showed up.So it's it's fun. It's a good
time to being a Yankee fan.I am thrilled. I will I will
admit that I have. I'm Ifeel kind of like a jilted X.
I like I'm on great terms withwith almost all my ex girlfriends, like

(13:46):
even my ex wife and I likewe joked, but I could if she
needed something that was reasonable, Iwould. I make sure I say reasonable.
I would do my best to helpher and vice verse. One of
our exes is just ghosting me.I've reached out twice. Now are you
talking about someone whose real government nameis Robert Yeah, who used to live
on a farm in New England.Yeah who ate his first pat Ooh yeah,

(14:11):
okay, so we'll see, we'llsee. I reached out again this
morning. Well let's talk about thatbecause probably right now, if this is
your first time listening, you mightbe getting used to real content like that
was also what that was that thatwas our guy. Now maybe he can't
because of the flag we're under nowrepresenting a different team, but I thought

(14:31):
he'd at least text you back, you know. So that was the thing
is, So I texted him thefirst time, and I was like,
you know what, maybe I sleepon text all the time, you know
what I mean, Like I've especiallylike if I match, if I was
running a Firebirds game and everything wasgoing on, you text me hey miss
you. Oh I'm gonna get backto him and go on. Would never
think of it again. So that'swhy I tried to emailing, And now

(14:54):
I'm emailing. I'm hoping and listenif he's if he's available, if rob
it's available, Yeah, but youknow, only if he really wants to
do it. I'd love to havehim on the show weekly. Maybe that's
the thing is, I don't knowif he can just because we are technically
a competitor, all right, butI you know, I would like to
think you at least I even droppedthe pinstripe pants in this one. I

(15:16):
even went, hey, so back, you know, pinstripe pants, like
you know that was your cute littlename for me when we were dating.
Where are you? I? Missyou, come hang out with me at
the hideaway, come home that andmiss you come home baby. I don't
treat you right over there. Well, you know the thing is, if
we don't get him, we doneed to get somebody who kind of lives
between the two of us. Becauseyou, all your years of being an

(15:37):
Oriols fan has made you kind ofa negative fan. No no, no,
no, no, you're getting better. You're getting better, but you're
kind of a negative fan. Hemade me that way. Well he Robert
was the number one hater of theO's. My boy, Robert always wasn't
on Gossa streams. No, butyou you even the Yankees. You were
a little bit more negative about theYankees. I'm so hyper positive the Yankees

(16:00):
to have him coming and go,you know, just kind of be the
the voice of reason and whenever hewas actually wrong, I would lose it
enjoy because he's so smart. Sothis was just all the there's a lot
of big changes out there in theether. We're trying to make bigger ones.
Okay, that's what we do aroundhere as at Levac and Gus Fox
Sports Radio ninety five to nine andnine eighty. How you sleeping by the

(16:22):
way like a baby? Actually, you know, I had nightmares last night,
but I still slept better because ofmy my mouthpiece. What were the
nightmares? Can you tell? Iate dinner way too late? So they
were crazy all over the place. There was a dude coming for me.
There was like the eclipse was reallya bad thing. All this stuff was
like all this crazy stuff was goingon. But then I got up.
I did a little little some thumbs, calm the old belly down, put

(16:45):
the mouthpiece back in from the GraveSleep Center, and bosses spa out like
a light. Slept great. Howabout this. I'm parking here today.
A gentleman in a blue SUV pullsup. Hey, I saw your girl,
Laurie. She says, HI.I'm like, all right, whatever,
Lorian the in Grave Sleep Center.I'm like, she's more than my
girl, She's she's my my friendMichel Padre and she's the one who made

(17:08):
it all work for me. Withdoctor fred Reer, I go, how's
everything? He goes, yeah, just like you large soft palate. I'm
like, hey, man, bigvoice, we do. He goes,
how's it working? He goes,It's early, but I'm hopeful. I'm
like, keep working it, man, It'll come together. Like that's that's
the coolest thing that's happened me ina couple of days. That's when we
pull up and go, hey, called the Integrave Sleep Center. Talk to
doctor Frederier, talk to Laurian.Gonna start sleeping better. Uh sleep apnus

(17:30):
was bad, but it's getting better. Like that makes me feel really,
it makes me feel like I've donesomething cool. So if you're snoring,
somebody you know is snoring five eighteight five six five, Doctor Fredrier and
the Integrated Sleep Center and Boss's fatherhelped me sleep better. They're gonna help
you sleep better too. It's love, aking, guys. On the Voice
of the Capitol Regions Sports fan FoxSports ninety five, nine and nine eighty,

(17:53):
it's kind of become weird, likeI've done everything. I kind of
break you, guys of your overthe top verbose, hot take sports talk
host thing that you were pretty like. I don't think that was where you
lived for a while, but youyou kind of meander back in there once
in a while. This industry wasfounded on hot takes, Are you kidding

(18:14):
me? I gotta steal those headlines. I gotta get those clicks in twenty
twenty four. I gotta say bold, wild things that confuse people until I
start bloviating my take after a bigtease like that, simply because you said
bloviaty, I'm just gonna get outof your way. I like that word.
I don't know why some of myfavorite words you earlier were talking about.
So we you know, we stumbledinto when out of this whole John

(18:37):
Calipari thing. I think it's amazingthat that he's headed to Arkansas, Like
I just it doesn't. It doesn'tcompute to me, except for it does
because historically speaking, if Calipari isleaving, trouble's on its way. So
I assume Kentucky's about to get sanctioned, fined, and everything else under the
sun. But like you were, you said, it's big than that.

(19:00):
Yeah, I think this goes toa bigger theme about investing in the future
and ROI return of investment. Right, we are in this spot in the
history of college sports that we reallyhave never been in before, because it's
more clear than ever before. Ifwe want to argue, in the past,
colleges were paying players under the tableand they get them cars. All
probably true, all definitely true.We just didn't have easier ways to track

(19:25):
it with social media and people,Oh he paid so and so. Now
we can say, Okay, howmuch you want an IL, great,
we'll give it to you. Butwhat we've seen over the course of the
last few years is that even thoughthe NIL is becoming the playground of billionaires,
of wait, now I can justpay him pickings at Oklahoma State's a
billionaire. I can just say thisdude who's selling the Tyson Chicken Nuggets can

(19:47):
just give his favorite program a tonof money. Wait, Phil Knight could
just do it now with Oregon. It seems like it's so unfair that billionaires
can have an advantage. However, where we sit down April twenty twenty four,
I have yet to get the exampleof the NIL team taking over the
NIL team dominating like Texas A andM football was supposed to be the team.

(20:11):
They're not very good. Arkansas basketballcould be the next one. We're
gonna find out. But all thesepeople who threw tons of up Alabama football
sort of with Bryce Young, Butyou can make the case they were good
before nil, because they were goodbefore nil. I look at Calipari and
I wonder, like, if thisis the first coaching example we have of

(20:33):
Arkansas threw a ton of money athim, Kentucky things. They can throw
more money at the next guy andit'll work. This feels far more experimental
than anything else. So my sonRex is in the spot now where he's
learning what experiments are. He'll saythat it's great here in a three year
old, say experiment hypothesis. Hespeaks well for a three year old,
but he's very amazed that the ideathat like red and yellow can make orange,

(20:59):
or red and blue can make purple. It's like blown as mine right
right, that snow can come andmelt. But this is what we are,
Levec. This is as we aresports fans. We're in the experimental
level. Like I can't could yousit right now and tell me that you
think Arkansas is gonna win a championship. I'm not confident in then I'm not
confident I am is. But allthese people who want to spend their money,

(21:21):
they think it's gonna happen because theyspent the money, and we have
no proof of that working yet,at least in the college ranks. Can
I tell you why? Coach Greggytusso you all Many Football is mad at
me, mad at you? Yeah? No, So word got back to
him about my theory about the nilthat if I ever stumbled upon a ridiculous
amount of money, I would basicallybuy a championship for either you al Many

(21:45):
Hoops or Sianna Hoops like I would. I would go meet with whoever I
have to. I would do itlegal because you because they can do it
now like I can. I don'tjust have to get duffel bags and like
sneak into your house and go,hey, you want this kid, come
play it. Come play at Sienna, because come play at you Albany so
uh Sianta, We'll say Siana becausebecause I would be able to help your
boy Gmac out. So I wouldcall g Mac, I would call uh

(22:08):
Demos, I would call uh Darge, all the all the big players.
I go listen, I want tohelp, but I want to do it
on the level. Who how howdo I donate to the nil money?
And then they tell me how itworks and then I take this ridiculous amount
of money and I get I meetwith the coach if I can. If

(22:30):
I'm allowed to do that, I'mgonna do it either way. If I'm
allowed to do it, I'm gonnabe with the coach. I'm gonna talk
to the coach and I say, what players can I go buy right now
that you win the NCAA tournament within a year two tops? Well be
this one, this one, thisone, but that would cost forty mil
done. Go win it, Justprove what a farce everything is. Just
go win it. So Gatuso said, what do I hear you? We're

(22:52):
gonna buy a championship for a basketballteam. I said, well, if
I won a lot of He gotbig Boy mad at me because he's what
about me? I thought we werefriends? What do you You wouldn't do
that for the football team? AndI think he was kidding, But he's
so good at sometimes that he mayhave. He may have been very very
serious and like, of course I'mgoing to do that too. Like since

(23:15):
I met Gregatus. The one thinghe's always told me is the amenities that
you all and you need a boostthe amenities need. So that's that's part
of the plan. But that's adifferent plan. This I just think I
can make a farce of it all. So if Calipari goes to Arkansas and
then they do they win it all. When was the last time Arkansas basketball
was in the championship? I believemid nineties, forty minutes the hell Nolan

(23:37):
Richardson there were just full court pressand everybody, so about thirty plus years
there. They're a football school, but they're not even good at football anymore.
So, like, if he goesthere and it works, especially after
it not working really well in Kentucky. He got the names, he just
didn't have the right the right theright names, then then this is this
is kind of on the level ofwhat I was saying. I can go
buy a championship now, and Ican do it on the level well,

(24:00):
there's two huge parts of them. The second one I'm gonna definitely get to
the first one. I do this, Like, I'm also just surprised I
haven't said this yet on today's show. I'm just surprised he still wants to
coach. Like there was a levelof guys who are the Hall of Famers,
the greats of all time, Coachk Roy Williams, Jim Beheim,
Jim Calhoun, Jay Wright, sothe best coach of the last twenty five
years, all retired, all done. The only two who are really left

(24:23):
are Tom Izzo and cal Perry.Like that's it. Yeah, those are
the only two who are left.So you'd think it's this point, with
what he's accomplished with winning a championshipalready at Kentucky, from Memphis to UMass
to all the different schools he's beenat, you just he's already in the
Hall of Fame. It's like, what more do you need to accomplish?
You still want to chase sixteen yearolds around and having a crazy high level

(24:45):
of expectation the New York coach Youcould do it. But a lot of
reasons, it seems the coaches leftis because this is not the coaching they
were used to. They feel farmore like a business. And Rick Mattino,
I know is out there as well, uh that it feels so much
more like a busy this then coaching. Some would argue that maybe that's what
made them great. Coach call andPatino and this one, but this particular

(25:07):
coach if he if he ever uttersthe word, it's too much like a
business. When we've seen what he'sleft in this wake U Mass Memphis moving
on, just leaving, leaving,How did Marcus can be playing US and
Eric Rose playing Memphis? Correct right, there's no way, there's no way
that the business aspect of upsets it. I can see him going. It

(25:30):
would be amazing if he went.Games changed now everybody can do what I
did. I don't want to doit anymore like that sterical I'd be I
would be the biggest caliparty fan inthe history of mankind. But I think
that there's these guys they're never gonnaquit. You heard the Jim Harbaugh story
where he was was a Greg McElroy. He was talking to and McElroy had

(25:51):
been coaching a little bit. Butnow he's like, hey, coach,
I'm gonna go back to covering it. And Harbor was like, you don't
love football, And he's like,no, I'm gonna cover it. Whatever
he goes, you play, youcoach, you die. That's that means
you love football. If you stop, if you stop playing or in or
coaching, you don't love football. There's guys who believe that that that's how
they live. That's like Harbaugh's Harpall'sgonna be like a frozen head on a

(26:14):
sideline coaching football games. Cal Partycould be the same way. Like there's
there's a lot to mock about Calipari, but like I do believe he has
his yest and the love for thegame. Yes, And this is a
perfect setup for my next question thatI want to talk about that has a
local tide to this story. AndI know that sounds wild, that how
can Jock Caliperry and Arkansas at localtide at the Califorian because it's something happened

(26:36):
this past weekend. Why it hasn'tworked yet? Why the super team,
the Levak dynasty of the Levak moneyteam, whatever you want to call that
college team who was just nothing butnil you buy a championship hasn't worked yet.
I don't think it has worked yet. And even Zachen who's playing produced
title game, he can't win becausehe's a foreign athlete from Canada. Here's
my thing. You were with theAlbany Firebirds this weekend. You talk about

(26:57):
people who love football. You werewith pro athletes this weekend, guys who
range anywhere between what they're early twentiesto early thirties. So definitely definitely guess
who would become professional. I don'tthink there's any rookies on the time,
right, I thought, Coach,we have anybody who's never played in our
league. Wherefore us were kind asa rookie. Oh okay, I thought
coach something that nicely, He's like, there's there's some of you here who

(27:19):
know that this is this is yourlast chance to play football, and you're
gonna do this for a couple ofyears, and we've got you. We're
gonna make sure that you have everychance to win rings. There's some of
you who are here because this ishow you're gonna get to the next level.
And we have you're gonna win ringsand I'm gonna help you get there.
Like, yeah, we have it. So the age isn't exactly it.
It's the I'm not done playing yet, Like like Nick Haig had his

(27:42):
moment in the NFL, he doesn'twant to stop playing yet. So he's
a firebird. Markel Wade hasn't hadhis moment in the NFL, yet he
wants it. That's why he's afireber. That storyline you just mentioned there
is the most important part about thisand why it's so different, because those
guys like Markel Wade, like NickHaig, what motivates them is that next
contract. What motivates them is thenext experience continuing their career and everything else.

(28:06):
Think about you listening right now,how differently you would be if someone
offered you a million bucks when youwere twenty eight in this spot fighting for
your next career spot, twenty threefresh out of college, trying to start
your career, or the top prospectin the country at eighteen years old.
What seems to be happening right now, and it's a very small percentage,

(28:29):
is that these recruits we're talking about, these eighteen nineteen year olds who are
dubbed the Future, these programs aregiving a buttload of cash in the nil
and the motivation may not be there, like all of a sudden, that
four star recruit you thought you weregonna hit is not playing up to the
level you think you should be playingfor for a million bucks. There's tons
of times where four and five starsdon't hit But the problem is the four
and five star is it not justplaying as well as they should at eighteen

(28:52):
years old, but they're all notliving up to the investment of a million
bucks given to them by a billiondollar donor. And the motivation's probably not
there. You got a million bucksand you're eighteen, haven't stepped on the
court yet. It's hard to motivatesomebody when they're eighteen, let alone when
they got a million dollars for doingnothing. That's what I fear about the
NIOL. It's so different than prosports because we just give the examples of
why pro sports and pro athletes aremotivated. They love the sport, they

(29:15):
want to continue to play, theywant the next contract, they're more.
But sure, I'm not convinced ina sport, especially like basketball or you
can go one and done where youthrow a ton of money at an eighteen
year old at a million bucks, they had that same desire than a twenty
three or twenty eight year old.So like the the how do I put
this? The players that I knowwho have had something of that nature,

(29:40):
maybe it's not a full million,Maybe they got maybe they got a whole
back, you know, maybe theygot something. Most of them never saw
the money. See, most ofthem had somebody who controlled it for them
so they could be on the level, so that they could focus on what
they were great at. So it'slike a like the people I know who

(30:02):
have been blue Chippers and five starsor by three stars are better. They
even whenever that first paycheck came through, whether it be the draft, whether
it be you know, the themoney like you know, the signing money
from baseball or whatever whatever it was, they never saw it. They got
they got an allowance from mom ordad or their agent or whoever their manager.

(30:26):
They got an allowance, so theynever saw they they knew, just
keep playing that money will keep comingin my allowance. It's interesting to think
that if you were you know, hey Tom, Tom Goslowski, the third
out of out of upstate Western NewYork. I don't want to find everybody
to take It's there's the apocalypse solareclipse, like, and I hand you
directly the money because you don't maybeyour parents aren't aren't in this In this

(30:48):
scenario, your parents aren't involved you, what do you become? I gotta
be honest with you by that thatquestion, that logic if I'm the pros.
I love this because you know whatthis means. I can see how
you reacted to the payday. Idon't have to be how you react to
the payday. So all these draftbusts, I now, like Jamark.
If you had handled JaMarcus Russell amillion dollars when he was playing at LSU,

(31:12):
there's no doubt in my mind hewould have stopped watching film and he
would have started drinking purple drink rightthen and there because that's what he liked,
That's what he was about. Andnow LSU waste the money. The
Raiders don't get set back three years. You have made me fall in love
with nil. You have found anotherreason why I love NIL. We will
use the term for this upcoming draft, for the NBA draft, for the
future, experiment. Experimental. I'veheard mel kiper using the word fascinating.

(31:37):
We're in a stage right now inthe history of sports where how does an
athlete react to that? Because Iknow somebody heard that and say, like,
wait, an eighteen year old getsa million bucks. Guys, do
you remember the day where high schoolkids used to go straight from high school
the NBA. That is not thesame thing. It is not the same
thing, because when you go tothe professional ranks, you're surrounded by professionals.

(32:00):
You have people you could follow,Anthony Davis, Lebron Garnett. I
know, Anthony Davis, puld one, you're a Kentucky but you had these
guys who were surrounded by pros.Imagine if you were nineteen and your buddy
had a million bucks, what doyou do? Play on TikTok go,
try to get with the sorority girls. It's a different life in college in
the pros. But yeah, doesit weed out the guys you didn't have

(32:22):
to deal with? Do you mayhave less bus Are they more mature?
Are they all? That matters? And it also matters for the coaches,
how well they were spotted. Someof these coaches going for these pay days
where it doesn't matter about the schoolcolors you were in anymore. It's about
how much money can I get itat il how much money is the booster
willing to give me? Are thoughthese things being reevaluate, That's what it
means about. See, my grandiosostatement actually made a little bit of sense.

(32:45):
Before we got into this. Iwas literally just thinking that we've been
talking about this for what ten fifteen, fifteen minutes, and I have I
don't think it's I don't think itwent anywhere I thought it was going to
go. I don't know. We'vebeen to a lot of places. I
like all of them, though,I will I will. I love the
idea of these schools that basically havebeen non competitive just popping up. I

(33:07):
can't wait. I can't wait tosee what it is. Do you think
Arkansas goes farther than Kentucky next year? Yes? I do, and I'll
leave it. And one more tothat point, you said there the school
that's gonna win all this, theschool that we don't hear is SMU,
who started the whole thing years ago. Like this whole thing got started because
SMU fired their coach who was prettygood in their second season, and then

(33:29):
they hired the USC coach, andthen the USC coach got involved, and
then all of a sudden, theArkansas coach is getting moved because this coach
myc to Kentucky. You're gonna makea big transition. Hell, the guy
in the Tyson Foods had a connectionto all three schools. Weird, SMU
is gonna be that somewhat check onByron Hunt. Someone let Byron know they

(33:50):
got paid not I like. Don'tget you wrong, but there's no way
I'm having that conversation with him. There's no way I would do what Hey
maybe all right, there it is. I'm impressed, guys. I'm I
didn't know where you wanted to gowith that. You went, Grandios.

(34:13):
There's a lot. You gave mea lot to think about, and thank
god I have all that free timeto think about those things because the great
work and our friends that you SXpest do. Yeah, La n a
winner at WrestleMania, just like USXPast Control is a winner for you and
your homes. My boys are outplaying in the backyard today. I am
not concerned about what pest can bepopping up after a wild, weird winner

(34:34):
and semi spring, whatever season youwant to call the last few weeks.
USX Pest Control has my home coveredunless those great moments come this spring in
the summer, because I know thepast won't be around. If you're getting
concerned about how your home could be, if you're having some young ones in
your backyard and more and you don'twant some surprises, call USX pass Control
today. They'll make sure they havethat plan set a few platinum package and
the way they do it levac it'ssafe and good for everybody who's stopping over

(34:58):
to your crip. And that's thekey. So like, I have an
old house, and things will getinto an old house, right, So
you accept, you tolerate, youlive with. Since us x Pest Control
has been helping out, I havefar less to worry about. I have
far like like, as a matterof fact, my cats are getting fat.
I gotta be honest with you.I may need to I may need
to get like uh, Tim andeverybody to sneak me in like one mouse,

(35:21):
just so that the cats can losesome weight, chase it around.
That's that's that's how good usx pestControl is. The Levac gene has found
its way to the felines. They'regetting they're getting big boneded. Dude,
don't waste time, get it.Get the calling now today, get your
yard taking care of No mosquitos,no ticks for the for the summer.
Go to usxpest dot com schedule thatfree inspection two day. I'm so used

(35:43):
to ending the show with the playof the day, but we already did
the play of the day. Wedo need to debate that at some point,
is that gonna go to the bottomof the show or stay at forty
five? With a forty five,I say it stays there for now.
All right, we'll debate that later, but this is an ongoing conversation that
you wanted to have, and sinceyou decided to have it, I'm thrilled

(36:04):
to end the show on the veryfirst day that we got an extra hour
next to Fox Sports Radio ninety five, nine and nine eighty Clove aaking guys
on the Voice of the Capitol Regionssports fan Fox Sports ninety five to nine
and nine eighty. Come on,we got strong. We've done one of
these? Where am I? Howdid I get here? Even I don't

(36:25):
even Radio Row is a little different. We had some tape, we had
some interviews, but yeah, wellin Radio Rows, like you know,
you build yourself up the whole week, and even though like people from back
here would hit me up with questionsand so you know, I provide them
solutions. Like today all morning Iwas busting my bot getting things together for
the Firebirds. So like men's like, yeah, but at least dude,

(36:47):
no, we deal. You're homeby five fifteen. Now you're home by
six fifteen. You know, listen, I don't expect you to cry for
me, but if you do,I appreciate it. You know what,
Yes, Welovac, we were doingit. We're not keep playing to put.
Hopefully for you listening right now,a Capital region sports fan, hopefully
you've enjoyed this third hour. Weappreciate. The reason it's happened is because
of you and everything that's happened, and all the great sponsors and supporters and

(37:10):
people who have been in our cornersince we launched in May. And it's
probably been about three years since you'velistened to something in the five o'clock hour.
And it wasn't a curmudgeon newspaper writeror a hockey take or anything else
that's been coming the last three plusyears in the five o'clock hour in sports
talk. So if you were sickof here in hockey or a newspaper writer

(37:30):
in his seventies, complain. Weare now back to you in the five
o'clock hour for the foreseeable future. This isn't an April Fools joke poorly timed.
No, no, no, okay, the clips hasn't moved our satellites
out of direction. I think we'reall good. I expect a little lecture
in the uh in the old tillOkay, moving forward as well, well,
we'll something pretty effort. Yeah, that's in the process, I think,

(37:52):
or something process. I'm the process, old Tommy g the process.
Trust it, right, I don'ttrust yet. You get that text I
got from a certain somebody earlier todaythat I passed the law about the value
of seating. You and I talkedabout Caitlin Clark. We've talked about her

(38:12):
a lot. This is too muchnow, this is where I'm going to
draw the line. I feel likehave been very fair if you missed earlier
parts of the show. Again,we're always on demand Apple, Spotify and
the iHeart app. Darren Ravel, who has decided to leave ESPN, decided
to leave the sports business world. He was a part of the Action Network.
He was one of the guys wholaunched the Action Network and it's doing
fine. But he's left at aswell. He's now launching his own website

(38:35):
for collectibles. Okay, like,I mean, hey, everybody, everybody
loves collectibles collect media. I'll evengive him a shot up for you have
two million followers on social you're doingsomething right. We're all doing a bunch
of the farmers. We all we'redoing a card show on Saturday. Look
at that over at the Capital Center. There's a market to make money.
It's a business, no nowt butRavel posted this that Darren Revel on social

(38:55):
media. A chair that Caitlyn Arksetting for player introductions during the Big ten
tournament has sold for three thousand andseven. These chairs, I know,
I gotta get out. I'll bePiirina. I gotta find the chair from
the from the sea a tournament. If this one's only this three, that

(39:16):
was gotta be six, right,I'll be right back. Get that chair.
I'm gonna give me. Give meAaron, give me Nay, give
me Bob Belber on the phone.I need that chair. If you're not
on Twitter and you need to laugh, just look at those comments. I
mean, that's that's the content. This is pay for Twitter. Let's just
say the number one comment is youprobably paid for it, you weirdo.

(39:39):
Well probably didn't hold all right, let's do Let's let's take this two different
directions. All right, Let's startwith justifying, in some way, shape
or form, what has happened here. If I told you that, well,
Jerry McNamara is now real in yourlife, so it's not the same.

(40:00):
Jim Brown. I can get youthe sideline share of that Jim Brown
used to sit on during Syracuse backof football games. How much would you
pay for it? Not very much? No, No, I'm not a
big collectible guy, so I'm probablythe wrong person to ask on that one.
I would not pay. I don'tthink I would like game worn jerseys,

(40:22):
game worn hats, tickets. I'mprobably the wrong audience for that,
and I will fully admit that, probably because I've worked in sports media.
Like I'm a sports fan, you'rea sports fan, like, probably because
of what we do, I'm notthe best. Now you listening, you
can let us know on Twitter onFacebook. If I had to really put
a price in, like a JimBrown chair, probably four hundred bucks because

(40:44):
these chairs go for two three hundred. So if it was something cool like
have the school Brown's logo, okay, well all right. So one of
the reasons I even thought about thisis so recently we head out to Vegas.
We're covering the Raiders stadium, butnot the Raiders and the Raiders stadium.
Like the chairs there. They looklike just every day, run of

(41:04):
the mill plastic, you know, bolted down seats, but they're they're comfortable,
and they've got the Raiders logo cutinto the to the top. I'll
be Perflely host with you. Ilooked online to see if they sold replicas
because I thought it'd be really coolto have four of those, like in
my guy room or in my garageor something. I couldn't find ones that
were close, but for four ofthose I probably would have paid, you

(41:27):
know, six seven hundred bucks. Now, mind you, they probably would
have wanted it six seven thousand. But but to have that piece of history,
like when they tore down the originalYankee Stadium, I if I was
older, if I was mean now, I would have a row of seats
from the original Yankee Stadium. Idon't know what it would cost me,
but I would have them. Idon't think this is revealing too much about
somebody in my life, but whenmy wife and I bought our first home,

(41:47):
our home we live in now,one of the tours showed one of
the bedrooms had three seats from YankeeStadium in the bedroom, like the originally
Yankee team was in the bedroom, and I'm like, that's really cool.
I know that's not staying with thehouse, but this is clearly like a
huge deal that these people have putthis, like in their bedroom. They
have these seats in here. Idon't know, No, you know what,

(42:13):
before you even said anything that willlead to my I next, I
just no, no, no,we got three. Let me first off,
they did take the chairs. Theydidn't leave them. They did take
the chairs. Did they were theymezzanine, cuckhold or field level? Do
you know what level they were? No? I don't. Okay, Well

(42:35):
just checking. We did have thatthird hour. That was my fault.
Was a transition. Just keep going, Nobody will notice. Just roll on,
roll on, roll on. Welllet me transition awkwardly into this.
It has to do with the gender, right, let's just dive into the
weird. If we're going to beweird here, Like you mentioned Jim Brown
sixty years ago, at least, maybe I was a young, naive child
who didn't have to deal with weirdos, and I just assumed everything was for

(42:58):
good. Now that we have thething called the Internet, in some weird
places, this is more about justcreeps in a weirdos for Caitlin Clark right,
I didn't want to make a darkand odd, but it feels like
it's just a bunch of weirdos havinga platform to be weird, even if
it's not. Even if it isn'teven if someone by like the Saturday Night

(43:19):
Live alumni who's at the All theGames ted last night, Yeah, JASONA.
Dakas, Jason Dakas. Let's sayJason Dakas buys it because he is
a fan of you know, Iowa. He's a fan of Big ten history,
and he's got an ungodly amount ofmoney for to be successful. I'm
mocking him and saying, you boughtthat because a chick sat there. I'm
I'm mocking that and saying, oh, you bought a new pillow, like

(43:42):
I'm gonna there's and that's the cleanestI could do for your guys. And
you're welcome. Let me, letme spend this and however you, however
old you are, is probably gonnahave a different reaction to this. Okay,
we'll do nineteen ninety eights. Theyear nineteen ninety eight NBA Finals Game
six, Bulls and Jazz uh Jazzfans were upset. They think Jordan pushed

(44:05):
off. But here's what we're puttingup to auction. Michael Jordan's, Jordan's
he wore in that game, goesto auction. For the sake of the
conversation, We'll say they go forfifty thousand dollars. Okay, And everyone's
like, whoa, You're the truestJordans of all time. Look at this,
fifty thousand dollars for Jordan's. Now, you listening right now might think
like, Okay, that's like thebest pair of sneakers you could ever get

(44:27):
as a sports fan. That's gotthe coolest moment. He was a brand,
he was everything else. If I'vetold you that Kaylen clark sneakers that
you just wore in the South Carolinagame are gonna go up for auction,
is the same response cool? Ordoes your mind jump to weird? It's
always gonna be weird. It's alwaysgonna be weird. But like even even
the Jordans like the game war andstuff, I don't know, I don't

(44:52):
know how I feel about it.Like I have a very limited collection of
player memorabilia, like I have.I have a lot of stuff, but
like I have I have an autographedRicky Henderson rookie card that's near mint.
I have an autographed Bo Jackson's showcase. I have an autographed Holly Loong jersey.

(45:13):
I have a raider's helmet that I'mbummed because it doesn't fit on my
head. Ultimately, I want towear and play with all the things,
Like that's what I really want todo. But like, if you bought
sneakers, I'm going to make funof you. I'm gonna say you sniffed
those, like you did it,Like we just tell the truth. And
if you didn't sniff them, howdo you know the room? I would
say my two most prized piece ofmemorabilia now then I own it my home.

(45:35):
I think I have the nineteen ninetyeight Syracuse football captains in my parents'
house. But the stuff that Ithink is the coolest, And I hope
this is a mindset that's changing withsports fans. Is it something that you
experienced, Like the cool part abouthaving a camera on your cell phone is
I would a thousand times out ofa thousand grab a selfie with someone before
the autograph, Like, hey,I caught a picture with someone's and I

(45:59):
think that's a generational thing because Ifind that cool. Like my two are
my press pass for the Massive SquareGarden Fight two oh five when Connor McGregor
made his debut. You know, the garden reopen for you. Like I
was there for that. Our SuperBowl passes, we were there for that.
But the coolest ones the Pete Roseautograph I have because you and I
sat for an hour with Pete Rose, and I have a picture with Pete

(46:21):
Rose at my story. Your autograph. Yeah what Yeah, somebody somebody has
a you know, like thanks Levac, you know Pete Rose, like that
day he got a ticket or likeat some point it was in your office.
I must This is literally the firsttime I remembered it. So at
some point while I was there, somebody took it. Wow at our former

(46:44):
workplace. Yeah it must have been. Oh man, I'm very upset that
because of let's say, the lackof technology in our former place, we
don't have that full interview. Andthat's still I'm mad about that because that
was a fun time. But yeah, like I like those memories. Like
I don't know if someone's like ifCandla Car's doing for four thousand dollars for
a chair man the hype around heris wild. You can't remember what four

(47:07):
thousand dollars is too, Like it'sa lot to you, it's a lot
to me. It's not a lotto a lot of people, you know
what I mean. There's there's peopleout there like, only four grand for
a piece of history, that's awesome. I'm just I guess again, it's
it all comes down to this, what are you gonna do with that chair?
What are you gonna do with it? You're gonna display it? You

(47:30):
can know? What what do youdo? I have a collectible chair in
my house. I have it's fromone of the WrestleManias or something whatever I
was. It was given to me. Batista's on it. Yeah, it's
an extra chair in my house.Like it's just, oh, there's extra
people here. I got that foldingshare. That's not a folding chair.
That's that's from that's like floor levelseating from this the event. Eh,

(47:52):
I don't care. One more generationalquote about this. Thirty years ago,
I'm sure somebody who did this fora format for a living sports talk radio
probably said, you know, what'sgonna happen in the future. If you're
a model, if you're a goodlooking guy or girl. Men, women,
there's gonna be an outlet where youcan make money off of how good
you look. You can become amodel, and that became Instagram. Like,

(48:13):
if you're good looking on Instagram, you can make money. If you're
good looking on social media, youcan make money. Whether it's only fans
or whatever, like that medium exists. If you're good looking to have nice
feet, they're only fans. Well. In fact, that's like the future,
Like twenty thirty years from now, there's gonna be athletes who sell their
own stuff, and that one's gonnabat and I to it be like,
oh, you sold your own sneakers. That's smart, that's our business.

(48:37):
Of course, Michael Jordan should puthis own sneakers up for auction. Of
course, Kate Lee Clark put itup for all. There's gonna be a
fan a group of fans and belike, wait, wait, wait,
so someone else sold your gear foryou. Why why didn't you just sell
your own gear? Oh, Iwould give I would give a percentage of
the money if someone were to gothrough all my collectibles, sell them all

(48:58):
and then come back to me andsay, you know, here's ten thousand
dollars. I would say, here'stwo, I'll keep bait. I would
pay. I would pay very muchto have somebody all my baseball cards,
my comic books, not the foldingchairs, whatever, all of it.
Just take it by. I'll giveyou. I'll give you more if you
go sell the bibbleheads. Give herthe freaking bobbleheads, and I'll sell you

(49:19):
even more. Yeah, I justI again. But we live in this
era though, because you think aboutit, another show, Hey, tiny
story shoe Tony's first home run hitas a Dodger, and reports are they
like strong armed this woman to getthe ball away from her? Like,
okay, first of all, shegot it, rules are that's hers?

(49:43):
You should bribe the hell out ofher. In my opinion, she should
give the ball back. It's ahistoric baseball for him. But there's life
changing money behind that ball too.So you know, hey, how about
a little finders fake I turn around, I can auction this thing, probably
for a mill. She's give metwenty grand I'm not asking for whatever you
paid your interpreter to pretend he betfor you. I'm asking for I'm sorry,

(50:05):
was that real? I'm asking foryou know, a little bit a
little little jangle, little little janglefor it. But there's those things are
so expensive, now, is it? Mike McFarland, I think is the
is the comic book guy who's todraw expend and spawning on. He had
every one of McGuire's home run balls, and when Nate when when word came

(50:25):
out that McGuire had been using steroids, the value of all those went through
the toilet. Like he paid likea million plus for five or six different
balls, so he was at likeprobably seven eight million dollars worth of baseballs.
And then Andrew Stein and this, that and the other, think about
right in the toilet. He hadto draw fifty more dudes in tight spandex

(50:47):
