Speaker 1 (00:04):
I'm a honey German. My parents are Dominican. I was
born and raised in New York City. I love sneakers
and I'm a body positive advocate. I'm Carolina Bermudez, but
I was born and raised in Ohio. I'm a wife,
a mama, and a worker bee. This is life in Spanglish.
It is hard to believe that we are physically less

(00:25):
than like two feet away from each other. I am
so blown away in a beautiful my honey German, Oh
my god, me you It's just I'm bugging out because
I'm like, this is actually the first time we're doing
the podcast in person together years? Yes? Is it two years? Yeah?
It's two full years in March. Yeah, okay, miss snatched.
Do you guys are not? I mean you have to see, honey,

(00:48):
you have been working overtime. You look absolutely amazing. List
where the blaze? Because I don't want to be out here,
you know, flexing too hard? Why no, are you kidding me?
You show off that little waist baby and the leather
pants and your little Jordan's I did it just for you, Okay.
I was like, nah, Carolyn, I gotta see me looking
good and you Carolyna looked amazing. Oh, thank you so much,
you guys. This is like a coming home. I cannot

(01:10):
believe it. We have been on hiatus, so many things
have happened. We got our side hustles going right now.
Oh would had good stuff, I know, and I there
are so many things that we were going to cover
on this season that I just cannot wait to discuss.
But first we have to talk about, Honey, and all
of the things that you have accomplished. Like I want
to talk about the Grammy thing that you are a

(01:31):
part of now, your Twitter space like that you are
a part of now you are like throughout him moving.
Matter of fact, I just bought a house last week, Carolyne.
I didn't want to give it off. I know. Well,
so okay, so we were supposed to record last week.
A lot has happened a lot, Well, Honey goes, I
can't come in. I just bought my house and I
was like, I'm sorry, you buried the headline. You purchased

(01:51):
a home. This is like a really big deal. I said,
my life is in boxes. Forget life in spanglish. It
was life in boxes. That totally that kind of still is.
That's our next podcast Life and so wait, so give
me more, Like where did you guys decide to move.
We're actually in Jersey, okay, you know, not too far
from the city, but it was just Long Island was
super expensive. Anybody who lives in Long Island or from

(02:12):
Long Island knows that buying a house on Long Island,
like if you want something nice, is out of the question.
So we're in Jersey. You know, I could still come
to work. I could still be part of the Tri
state area. You know, we had thought about Miami, and
I kept going back and forth during the pandemic. I saw, yeah,
give a spot there, and you know, we go sometimes,
like the month of December. I was there, beautiful the
whole month. But then home base has to be in

(02:33):
the East coast, you know, like New York, New Jersey.
This is where my heart is at. So we're in Jersey.
We're not just settling just yet, but we're working on it.
How's my Foxy Roxy? Girl? Foxy Roxy is fourteen. She
just fell down the basement steps yesterday. She ain't understand
that what amasement is. We've always lived an apartment. So
she looked down the door was open. A girl, it was.

(02:54):
I thought it was open for that bitch. Yesterday she
was howling like I never heard of house. It was
an awful way. Foxy Roxy is Honey's little Chihuahua that
is so adorable. I thought it was a rapper that
bit yesterday. I said, this dog don't died. I looked
down the steps. I said, she don't know about basements.
Guess is she okay? I don't know what her joints

(03:15):
to look dislocated, but she's walking on it, so I'm
assuming it's not broken. Oh my gosh. And you know
those vet bills they hit, they hit hard, that insurance
because my in laws their dog died and they had
a ten thousand dollars bet bill. They couldn't even save
the dog and they paid ten thousand dollars for all
types of transfusions. Wait, so why is this like a
common theme right now? Because my my husband's brother was

(03:35):
telling us about his dog and how she's like, you know,
and I think it's like end of life, you know
what I mean, like the elder dogs. But they're a
part of your family. These are your babies, you know,
they really are. And you know, I don't know how
we got started talking about dogs. But last time we
took Roxy to the vet, the vet was like, yeah, yeah,
because I have one like that in the basement and
I have this in the basement. I have that in

(03:56):
the basement. And we're like, what do you mean you
have dogs in the basement. He said, people don't want
their dogs sometimes because they pee everywhere, and they come,
they bring them to put them down, and we keep
them because we just feel so bad. Horse, so he said,
his basement at the vet's office is full of animals
they couldn't put down. Oh my gosh, No, you know what,
And what a way to start. I'm sorry, Like this
is this took a turn, This took a turn. Rocks

(04:17):
is okay, the house is good. She just got to
familiarize herself with doors leading into basements and addicts and
things like that. And just don't mess with it, Rocks,
they don't mess with it. Don't mess with it. Don't
mess Oh my gosh. Wait, but I also want to
know almost like have you have you gotten to know
the neighbors? Girl? Like I'd be through the window, like

(04:37):
the real ill chi mosa, I got the I got
wood blinds. I'd be trying to rip them down and
rip them open. So I've seen the neighbors. Noonie talks
to the neighbors. He'd be like, hey, guys, I'm telling
you he is the neighborhood guy. The guy next door,
I haven't seen him. I feel like maybe he's a hermit.
There's a nice black couple next door, super dope. Okay,

(04:58):
you know he's cool. He's already said hi to us.
Then older white couple across the street, Okay, we have
every tool you're gonna need to put your house together.
I'm like, thank you. That's beautiful. How neighborly. Except guy
to the right, he's got the shibo eno dog. I
was like, oh, I love your dog, but not yet.
I don't know. I don't think I'm that type of
person that would go be like, hi, you have your

(05:19):
neighbor have some cookies? None of that. No, you know,
it's suburbia because you used to live like in a
high rise apartment. Beautiful differ. It's just different. But I
just couldn't. Carolina. These rents one bedroom, three thousand dollars.
I'm like high, I said, I can't. I cannot do
this anymore if I'm gonna be paying three thousand dollars.
Let it be for something that I own. Well, we
are investing in ourselves. We are making that paper, We

(05:41):
are making it work. Because I'm telling you, between that
and the egg price is honey. You know, we had
that whole fluctuation here and there, egflation, eggflation, everything. You know,
my life has been so crazy. To talk to me,
I added a job as if I needed another job, Carolina.
When I saw this, I was like, wait, hold on,
I know she has time. No. My mother called me.
My mother called me and she said and I said, Mom,

(06:06):
you know, in this industry, this media industry that we
work in, I'm a forty four year old woman. The
fact that I'm still working is in itself a blessing. Okay,
the fact that I still have this job in radio
is such a blessing. So when they came to me
with this opportunity to even just dip my toe back
into the TV water, I said, I gotta figure it out.

(06:29):
I'll make it happen. There are some times where I'm
paying a babysitter more than what I'm even going to
go and make, you know, because that's the love of
the craft, that is, and we say they talk to me,
Carolina who called you, what was the actual offer like?
Because I love these Sepa Coles. So I used to
work for E News back in two thousand and eight,

(06:49):
and I was a freelance reporter at the time, and
I basically just would cover their events in New York City.
They have their hubs La la is where everything is
for entertainment, and at the time was everything entertainment. Then
they closed their New York bureau. I feel like a
lot of it was the Kardashian effect, and I'm not
saying that in a negative way. I think that they

(07:10):
paid so much for the Kardashians and they were running
them all day long. I remember that they didn't have
any original programming. They didn't have the money or the
budget to have any original programming. They had Chelsea Handler,
they had a couple of late night shows, but it
wasn't like what it used to be. Like you used
to go to E News Talk Soup for entertainment news. Yes,
Joel McHale, he was amazing. I just told him the

(07:33):
other day and I was like, Wow, the guy from
talks and he's excellent. He's excellent soum. So that job,
I think it was like in twenty ten is when
I finally fizzled out and they were just like okay,
thank you, but like, no, thank you. Were closing the
New York Bureau, which was sad, you know, but I
had radio and I focused on that. So fast forward
to twenty twenty two and I get a phone call
from a friend who is a producer at e Now

(07:56):
and said, look, I know you're busy. I know you
have a lot on your plate, but we know that
you can do this, you know, New York, and we
would like for you to be one of our New
York correspondents. Really like the person who will go to bitch.
It is unheard of, you know what I mean, because
I don't eat news correspondent. Yeah, job as yours. The

(08:20):
fuck well, you know. There were a couple of other conversations, yeah,
to have you know, but um, basically I just said, look,
number one priority for me is always going to be
my boys. Like I am a full time mom. I
love that about you. I'm a full time working mom,
you know. So Um, if there's a conflict, I have
to feel comfortable to say no. I have to be
able to say no. If if my son has a

(08:42):
parent teacher conference. I can't, you know, reschedule that if
if it comes down to it, I will have to
say no sometimes. And so they were very generous, they
were very accommodating, and you know, look, I've said no
to one thing. It's all work out. It's all working out.
And so that's where I felt like so inspired to
share this with people, because it's like just when you think,

(09:04):
you know, your plate is so full and you just
can't do it, bet on yourself and think, you know what,
I'm gonna find a way to make this happen because
it means so much to me. And what you said, Honey,
is exactly it. The passion. You know, I get to
work on television. I get to interview interesting people that
I admire and look up to. Oh my gosh, can

(09:30):
we talk about Tamar? But I was like wow, really,
like this is like somebody we look up to. Like,
if you are a woman works in media, you understand
the level of respect this woman gets. She is the icon,
she is the moment, everything about her. She is a professional.
The way she carries herself. You know, I was very
intimidated going in because this is tamarn Hall. Isn't just

(09:53):
a celebrity, She's a journalist. She is a journalist first,
that is okay. So working on the Today's Show alongside
the greats like Al Roker, and you know, she's had
her way of coming up, she's solidified totally. So then
you know, when she departed from The Today's Show, there
was a lot of talk about her and you know
what she was like and this and that, and I

(10:15):
personally have been a fan of her show because I
watched it during the pandemic. She never stopped, so you
got to know her, know her. I'm part of the
tam fan baby. So when they called me, I was
just like, are you kidding me? Right now I get
to go interview her and ask you a question. Yeah,
did you feel like you needed to button up a
little bit? Like the way you dressed, Like did you
feel like you need to match her or not? You
know the funniest thing, I took a picture and she

(10:37):
was like all in spring florals and looked amazing. And
I'm wearing black, like you couldn't like, I am a
true New Yorker wearing the all blacks were all black.
I'm telling you, my mom's like, where's the funeral? She
was like, why were you wearing all black as a
mom because I didn't know, like, and she has the
most incredible style. She is just hitting on all points.

(10:57):
And so for me to get to sit down with
somebody like that for fifteen minutes and just pick her
brain and then for that piece to go on the
air and like, it's just the whole thing is so surreal.
What about the boys like when they watch it? What
that tell me? Because you know, I love radio and
radio is super important. It's just but TV just hits different.
It's like, yeah, hear my mom on the radio, but

(11:18):
watching you? How did they react the first time? Oh?
They love it. They love it. Actually, one of the
boys teachers called me after school for something that was
that had happened during school that day and I said,
oh my gosh, I am so sorry. I know I
missed her call yesterday, I said, but I was shooting
and I couldn't pick up the fun She goes, oh,
I know, Asher told me my mommy's on TV and

(11:39):
she's doing an interview, so you're not gonna be able
to get a hold of her. And I was like,
oh my god. It was like, hold on, let me
hit you with the big flex real quick. My mother
on television, she can't answer you. Yeah, but then I'm
the one that's taking them to basketball practice and like,
you know, all of the above, because that's how it is,
like keep das should be on TikTok. I'm like, what
is this? But I guess you gotta do this step

(12:00):
and step for your kids anyway. Yeah, but also Kim
Kardashian is at the basketball game with little Northy, you
know what I mean. So it's like I feel like
we're moving in a different direction, and you know, the
E News thing has just been fantastic, this podcast. I
am so glad we are back. The feedback from everybody
there like when are you coming back? We couldn't talk
about it because we didn't get a date, you know,

(12:20):
and they finally gave us our date. Here we are. Yeah,
it was like every other question, So what's up with
the podcast? It's coming, it's coming, We're still doing it.
I think people worry, like if we're not going to
bring it back, No, as long as we're here and
they'll have us, will bring it back a million percent.
But also we're going to explore so many things. You know,
I cannot wait to get into you know what you

(12:41):
have been doing, honey, and all of the things that like,
I've been so inspired by watching your Instagram and just
seeing how many beautiful life changes that you've made, the
motivation that you've you've had. You know what I think
is the biggest thing that happened in the past year
for me. I connected with God. Like it was like,
I'm embarrassed to say that, but God was never a
priority for me. Don't be embarrassed. It's your truth. And

(13:03):
then my friend AJ he works over at YouTube. One
day he was like, you want to go to church?
And this man and changed in my life. I'm like,
what is this? This is so random? And he called
me last week and he was like, you want to
go to church? And I'll say where. He said, in Jersey.
You live in Jersey, Hope, I don't know. And the
first time I was in Miami, he was in Miami.
He introduced me to church there, and now he introduced
me to church in Jersey. We're gonna get into that.

(13:25):
We're gonna get into that topic, you know a little
bit later. As far as like people coming into your
life are certain, I feel like that's his only purpose
in my life. I love him. I'm pretty sure we're
going to work on other things. But I feel like
he was put in my life ten years ago so
that now he can connect me with God, you know
what I mean. And that's why. That's the reason why.
And honestly, I feel like I've had a similar conversation

(13:47):
with my sister. My sister is back in New Jersey.
She moved to New Hampshire. Now she's back, and I
do take the kids to church most Sundays, not every Sunday,
but you know, I do try to go on most
The Lord knows your heart. He does, he sure does.
But you know, my sister said to me the same
thing that you said. She goes, I'm embarrassed. I haven't
been in years, and I said, his doors are always open. Amen,

(14:11):
you know what I mean. So we will discuss that
and so much more. We have so many exciting projects
that we are just I cannot wait to divulge some
of the things that we have come here. We gotta
keep some of the stuff under wraps, but we're definitely
gonna get into it. And you know, our listeners, I
want to know what they've been up to because I
feel like it's been such a like weird year. You know,
everything opened back up, but everybody's not ready to be

(14:34):
fully outside. So it's like, I don't know, I just
want to hear what everybody's been up to. It's weird
because I feel like this podcast is like a bunch
of us friends no totally well familia, you know what
I mean, and we want to hear I know. That's
why I say it all the time. I'm like, hey, Prima,
and they're like what, and I'm like, oh no, no,
it means cousin, you know, but yes, I feel like
we are here as our community. It is back. We

(14:55):
want to answer your questions, we want to help you
with your life, sit you in your life choices. We're
gonna be introducing some really cool people that we have
met along the way. I gotta bring them up here
because there's so much to be said. And it's like, yeah,
you know, me and you have so many life experiences
and you know, we can talk to our listeners, but
bringing in other people that have you know, you know,

(15:17):
just little nuggets that we might not have. I think
that's gonna do wonders for this season. We're also going
to give you the chiefsman, we're gonna give you all
of the things. We're gonna talk about all of your
favorite celebrities. So we want to make sure that you
guys know that this is gonna be the spot where
you go make sure before I mean, we're we all
obviously have a little bit more time, but we want
to make sure that you are liking and downloading and

(15:39):
subscribing because that way we can keep you company. You
don't even have to think about it, you know, and
when those episodes, job is like a reminder right away,
you don't even have to be looking for it. Like
me with the new season of I'm like, when is
it coming to Netflix? To tell me? Girl, I was
supposed to come December thirty at that's marking my show
with it was like, yeah, it's not here yet. I'm

(15:59):
a net like, come on, get with it. Oh my god.
So yes, I wish I could set a remind us
so Netflix like it's here. I'm pretty sure I can,
But I don't want you to have to do that
with Life in Spanlish, I want you to get being
your new episode is here, so subscribe and hit that
five star. Please don't play with me, don't hit us too.
She said, don't play with me. So no, honey, Like,
let's also talk about the family. I want to know

(16:22):
how my mannoney is. What has he been up to you? Girl?
Is he all about the suburban life? Am I going
to see him on a John? Dear girl, this man
took a video of the house. Oh look at all
the lights I put outside the house. I was inside cooking.
He came in. I'm like, he is loving it. And
you know, homeownership is he always said it wasn't for him.
He's a Brooklyn boy through and through, like he just

(16:44):
lived in buildings his whole life. He was like, I
don't want to no yard. I don't want to know this.
I don't want to shovel snow. I don't now girl.
He's like, I ordered a fireplace. I'm like, when, oh,
when you were sleeping. I'm like, you mean, oh my god,
do I have a say it? What this? I guess not? No,
you know what I've done. I just mark. Actually my
husband has a great eye for design. I've just I

(17:06):
don't see. I sit back now because like I'll go
to home goods. I'll get some wicker and he's like,
oh no, bitch, you get that out of here right now? Yeah, exactly. No.
So now I am at the point in our lives
where I'm like, you know what this is like something
that you enjoy, you like it. I definitely give an opinion,
but like I'm not I won't fight him for things
like that. But that's definitely something I want to get

(17:26):
into in one of our episodes. Buying a house. Yes,
it's not easy there, but there are ways that you
can prepare. You know, if we do an episode, I
could tell you every single thing I had to do.
You know what you can do three months before you
even start looking. Yeah, because it wasn't easy. It was
practically a part time job. Yeah it is. It's it's

(17:47):
almost like you have to put in that work in
order to get what you really want. And that's what
it is, you know. I also want to talk about
how we are doing so much more more for ourselves
in the health sense. You know, I have been working
so hard. I mentioned it before. I am not afraid.

(18:08):
I'm termed forty five this year and everybody keeps saying
to me, oh my gosh, forty five, Like how do
you feel? And I'm like, I look at myself, you
look up thank you, baby, But I work hard. I
work hard at it. The number one thing I'm going
to tell you, guys, the number one thing coming up
this season that we all need to do to change

(18:28):
our lives and our health. And it's going to blow
you away. It's so simple and I cannot wait to
share that with you. But you know, I mean, I
have Mark, My husband has completely changed his lifestyle. Really,
I want to hear all about this. He is going
to the gym. By the way, you know, Tom Brady
posted a thirst trap a couple of weeks ago. Okay,
Tom Brady's gotten nothing on Mark Grossman. I will tell

(18:50):
you right now. I will put a side by side
up right now, because I am all about it. You
know that these are the things that like we're finding
ourselves again, you know, going out, going to concerts, going
to events and things like we were home for so long.
I think that Mark and I got into like a
little bit of a relationship run and now no, no,

(19:11):
oh my gosh, please never. But like I feel like
we're back on track, you know what I mean, Like
we're both taking care of ourselves mentally, physically, and I
think emotionally we are getting back to Liken. Yes, yes,
so I want to discuss relationship. Why you just said
about tantric sex. Well, honey, I'm like, okay, yeah, connecting

(19:34):
that that that she said deep, Yes, no it is,
it's serious. Yes, no, And I'm not even kidding you.
We've the other night and I like, we'll discuss this
in another episode. But the other night Mark and I
were together and I looked at him and I felt
something in my heart and I was like, this, this

(19:55):
is why. It's just a feeling. It is a true feeling,
you know. And I looked at him and I was like,
I cannot believe it's been fourteen years that I've been
with this man. Eleven or twelve. We're gonna be married
twelve years. I think this June. I'm bad at math um.
But anyway, I looked at him and I was just like,
oh my gosh, we have put in the work and
now we're seeing like the beauty of that work. That's amazing.

(20:19):
It's like you you've arrived, even though it's still ongoing.
You feel like this is the moment. Yeah, Because the
things that we would fight about before, like you know,
the silent treatment stuff that I used to pull on him.
It's just like it's not it's not hitting anymore, you
know what I mean. You was in your thirties, you
were still a fight. Like really, like why do we

(20:46):
even do this to the men we love? That's what
I'm saying. And so there's been a realization that this
relationship is so much more than you know, I I
ever imagined it could be. And it's it's getting into
a stage where it's so beautiful and I'm present and
he's present and we're in it together. So I don't know,
I feel like there's just so much goodness that we

(21:07):
want to share with you guys, and we also want
to make sure that we are helping you with those
life situations too. That's a fact, you know, because I
feel like with this podcast, like us just talking about
our situation, how we overcome, you know, how we make
things better. It just helps our listeners. And podcasting is
the way to go, like this is what people are
consuming now, like they just love it. Most people just

(21:27):
help me. Oh, I only listen to podcasts, Like it's weird,
Like they don't even want to watch TV. People not
even reading books. Okay, that hurts. That hurts. Make sure
you're still listening in the morning shows. Please, oh well
that don't listen. I wasn't going to drag radio into this, no,
but you know what, the radio side too, has totally
changed for me. You know, I've been working with Greg T.
That situation has evolved so much. I was working with

(21:50):
Greg T, the stunt guy from Elvis Durransey one. I've
always loved him, adored him. We're like brother and sister.
But just like my relationship with Mark, we got feedback
and it's like we're firing on all cylinders. Like he
and I. You feel like now you're in a good groove.
We're jelling, you know, and it's making sense. And you know,
to his credit, he never really got the training. You know.

(22:13):
I was always a co host, you as a pro,
like you knew what she was doing. He was always
the stunt guy or the side guy, you know, and
so he would come in and out. Yea spotlight wasn't
on him the whole hour, let's say. But to see
him now doing a four hour show and just that evolution,
you know, professionally, I'm so proud of him. Personally as

(22:34):
a friend, I'm so proud of him. And so you know,
those are the things too that we can hit on
and touch on. If you're in a place in your
life where you feel like you want to grow, We're
gonna get you there. We're gonna give you that those
tools that you need to get you to that next level.
And there's a lot happening, you know, within the Latino community,
you know, like the migrant situation that we have here.

(22:55):
There's a lot of different opinions. You know. I definitely
want to get into that Bunny and like that man
has taken over the world. Like I've been a Bad
Bunny fan for like five years, like ever since he
bust on the scene. Like I feel the way, I
don't know everybody with the bandwagon thing, I don't know. Well,
Bad Bunny is going to take an entire episode we
and I don't want to give things away, but we

(23:16):
are going to discuss his rise to fame, the interaction
with the fan that got some feedback, the Grammy snub,
which I will just go ahead and put it out there.
I was going to lose my mind when that happened, honey.
That's why I'm saying we are going to devote an
entire episode to Benito, which you know we love him

(23:37):
because you know what, and I will say this, I
haven't been a fan for five years like you, but
I clearly remember before the pandemic, the twins Lulu and
Lalla came to me and they said, we're gonna go
to the show tonight for Bad Bunny. And I was like, oh,
I heard of him, you know, I wanted. It is
my biggest regret that I did not go to the
show that night, because then the world shut down. I
know that was probably that's when he dropped. I think

(24:00):
I think that album yeah around there, almost three four
years ago, probably, yes, And so that was like one
of my biggest regrets. And so now you know, now
I got my little boys singing and I'm like, wait
a minute, wait, you can't say certain words like you know,
all right, we're gonna get into the censor, you know,

(24:22):
all of them. That was last summer. Last summer was
little I was in Miami with that album. It was
a good time. It was a good time. But now
we're back over here on the East coast free, I know,
and look at us, Look how grown we are. Look
at us. This is crazy and life in spanglish. Our
baby is growing. I got to remind it the other
day and it said like three years ago. I'm like,

(24:43):
what the hell is this that we've been around three years?
And the other thing too that we just really want
to point out to you when all of this stuff
was happening, when podcasting first started, when Honey and I
looked at each other and it was literally a hallway conversation,
we were like, we need to do this. We need
to talk about our lives, our culture, give people the voice,
because it wasn't happening out there. No, I really it wasn't.

(25:06):
I couldn't find a podcast I could relate to, and
in radio, I never felt like I had time. You know,
I never did like a show like a morning show.
I always did weekends or filling or just part of
are show. I never had a microphone where I can
really express my thoughts or you know, even connect with
people the right way. So this gave me that opportunity
and I'm forever grateful for that. And this is it, babe.

(25:26):
So we are in it, and we have a whole
new season, a fresh season of life and Spanglish that's
coming up for you, guys, and we cannot wait for
you to be a part of it. We do want
you to email us or dm us at li Spanglish
on Instagram so you can hit us through in the
DMS if you want to slide through it was on
the Twitter. Wherever you want to hit us, you can
find us, and you know we'll hit you back. Our

(25:48):
fabulous producer Andrew's back and we are going to embarrass him.
I have no doubt at some point in time throughout
this season. So we'll bring him in and ask him
his GREENO opinion and yeah, we got on. Come, okay, fine,
he's Italiano. I mean he is still our little greedy

(26:08):
and I say it with love. No, so Andrew is
gonna be in charge. He's gonna keep us in line,
and no, we cannot wait to share this next season
with you guys. He's gonna be lit. Lifense Banglish is
