Speaker 1 (00:00):
High school hoops tips off next week, believe it or not,
the tip Off Classic next Friday and Saturday. Of course
that's over Thanksgiving, and since we won't be here all
next week, wanted to talk hoops today with our hoops
analyst Matt Tablor who checks in. Matt, Good morning, Good
morning Todd.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
It's great to be back. It's crazy that his basketball
season already again. It feels like we just ended just
yesterday was playing in the state tournament, which was a
great state tournament, by the way, with seven divisions, and
we're right back at it again this year.

Speaker 1 (00:34):
Well, excitement is high here around Limo because we have
a number of teams that figure to be very, very good,
and we start, of course with the Lima Senior Spartans,
and when they are good, it can really fire up
this town. And this may be They've had a lot
of talented teams, but man on paper, this could be

(00:55):
the most talented team. Quincy Simpson's ever had that too
too much hype or is that close? What do you think?

Speaker 2 (01:04):
Well? I think our expectations because of the roster they
had last year, was very high on this team, and
unfortunately they exited it a little early. With a loss
in a regional semi final to Witton Woods. But yeah,
you're a spot on with your analysis, Todd with this

(01:25):
team is very, very good. They do lose Jakel Cotton,
who's now playing at the University of Detroit Mercy, but
when you look at their starting five, all five guys
with experience, it all starts with Sean Foster six' to.
Two you, know he averaged nineteen points a. Game they
weren't sure if they were going to have him as
he was going off to prep, school but now he

(01:47):
is back and they are loaded with. Him and then
they also have their their senior starter With Willie foster
who's already committed To Northern. Kentucky and then they just
have surrounding. Players AND i think the biggest question was
high And quincy kind of filled that hole With jakel
with bringing in a six seven transfer ple prep school last.

(02:08):
Year he's only a sophomore of The sterens kid AND
i had an opportunity to catch a little bit of
him On saturday at The megas, scrimmage and he's going
to be a nice piece for.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Them man if The spartans had a actual post, PLAYER
i don't remember that ever.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
Happening, YEAH i mean it's been a long. TIME i,
mean if you all go all the way back to
WHEN i was coaching With Brian andrews and, okay that
was a long time, ago that was twenty five years.
Ago but, yeah he does a nice. Job he really
takes up a lot of space and the paint changes
a lot of shots and they really don't need that offensive,

(02:44):
threat but he can flush it down if they get
it inside to. Him but that if they can get
it inside and establish an inside, game it only makes
their guards that much more.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Dangerous, Well Linema senior should be outstanding again this. Season
where previewing The hoop season With Matt. Tablor of course
it's the Tip Off Classic. Friday shawnee will be the
favorite to win that they bring back the law firm
Of beckett And. Beckett they fight for, you or at
least they fight For. Shawnee and as long as you
got those two, guys you're going to be pretty, good aren't. You.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah the Tip Off classic featured three regional teams last,
year With elida bath or Sorry, Elida shawnee AND lcc
all making a regional last year and this is always great.
Matchups But, shawnee they lost that regional final last year To,
sandusky and the true question for them is how are

(03:35):
they going to replace the seven seniors that they. Lost
we all know About beckett And. Trevick beckett's going to
The university Of finley's already committed for next, year and
they're all district. Players but how are the new guys
going to fulfill their? ROLES i think a big losses
vendor at the point guard for, them and then you
had A hutchins that could step outside shoot the, three

(03:56):
but could also go down and post up in an,
ojoe which was a glue. Guys so the new. PLAYERS
Jj spiker had a tremendous football season as quarterback For
shawnee and they got some other guys in. There but
the big thing is getting open because Both turkey brothers
averaged over for assist a. Game they'll find, you but
they're going to really have to have.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Their role, players no question about. It. Man, shawnee of,
course will be part of the Tip Off classic next
weekend as boys basketball season is. Here by the, way
you want to Mention lima senior doesn't open the season
until the Following friday when they Host toledo. Start we're
talking About Matt tabler, here high school, hoops a couple
of other teams in and Around lima we think will

(04:39):
be very. Good we head west and we Go route sixty.
Six we'll start With. Spencerville they bring back The Sensiball.
Brothers they did lose some pretty good, pieces BUT i
think they should be very good again if they can
fill in those other spots and The Sensi Ball brothers
are just a year. Better.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Well, spencerville, well they're going for their fourth league title
in a. Row AND i don't care what league you play.
In that's a difficult task to. Complete but they do
have the, players and like you, mentioned The sensible Brothers
owen And will are just dynamic. Players they also have
A Grady smith who has some size at six' three
that can play. For Him And jude steemen as a freshman,

(05:21):
last year came off and hit some big threes off.
The bench but the big one they're going to have
to Replace is carter Or carter or did a lot
that might not necessarily have showed up in the, box
score but he changed a lot. Of shots he was a,
big body very, very athletic so they're going to have to,
replace him but who better to do that Than. Coach

(05:41):
sensible he'll have a good game plan with. These Guys
and i'm looking forward to watching this team play.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
This, year yeah it's going to be exciting If for
spencerville and we'll see if they, can, repeat, repeat repeat
repeat whatever you just said four in a row IN.
The nwc spencerville will open The, Season friday december Fifth.
At elaida and the other powerhouse team we think we
will have around here is North, of spencerville Up In Delpha.

(06:09):
Saint john's it's it really is a law firm or
an accounting. Firm there They're. All Elwar's, It's, Elwer elwer
Elwer and Elware. And, Elware, right.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yeah there could be a possibility. At times i'm not
sure if the Youngest elwarre's i'm ready to get on.
The floor but that could happen, this YEAR and i
think the media put more expectations on this team and
the COMMUNITY than I just i don't know if they
were really ready. FOR that i really think This Is
Delpha saint. John's year they lost in a regional Final

(06:42):
to arlington. Last year everyone had penciled them in in
a state semi Final against rushy. Last year but it
all Centers Around. Cameron elware He's a. Firman commit he's
gonna Be playing division one basketball next year and they're
going for a, three peat, which again when we talk
about LEAGUES the mac that is an unbelievable fear because
they've run the table the last. Two years but this

(07:02):
team is stacked from top, to BOTTOM and i guess
we're going to go ahead and put that on. THEM
again i really think the experience of them playing in
a regional last year could get them and it should
get them to a.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
Final, four well it's going to be an, exciting season
and of course we have a lot of other teams
in the area that could be pretty good or maybe
some dark horses other than these. Four, powerhouses matt who
are a couple other teams in And around linebow you
got your.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Eye on, well again this is like an ever, Changing
ENVIRONMENT but i Really. LIKE bath I think baths has.
Good Direction With. Dre white in his first Year, at
bath he got him to a district where they lost
to an eventual regional Team, in elaida but they returned
a lot. Of Players logan markley six' five had a

(07:54):
tremendous football. Season as well he averaged about seventeen in,
game last year and He Was An all, northwest ohio
player and they got, Their Point guard. ZACH welsh back
i really look for them to take. A big step
and then another TEAM in the Wbl. IS van werk
a lot of people were talking, about this team and
teams don't get talked about a lot when you go.
Ten and thirteen but with the youth, that they Had

(08:17):
And with jeremy best leading This Team and zach crummy
who was a freshman last year about six to six
quarterback on. The football Team he Was All mentioned all
ohio last year and he averaged about thirteen. Points a
game but they, have everybody back and they got a
three year starter at Point Guard and KEATON welsh and
i really. LIKE this team i look for Them to

(08:39):
challenge SHAWNEE for a wbl title as well as that being,
RIGHT up there i think that one league loss will still,
win this, LEAGUE even outright I think because i think
there's a lot of parody up TOP. In, the wbl well.
