Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WIMA Sports desk. The Reds used a classic
combination to beat the Guardians in Cleveland last night, one
to nothing. Great pitching and great defense. And now the
Reds have won five in a row, and they've beaten
the Guardians all five times they've played this season. Last night,
it was about Andrew Abbott on the mound. He threw
(00:23):
the shutout, allowing just three hits. He did get in
a little trouble in the ninth inning, allowing a lead
off walk, but then got a double play before Jose
Ramirez singled to bring up Carlos Santana. Santana flew out
to deep left field to end the ballgame. Afterward, Reds
manager Terry Francona talked about the decision to leave Abbot
(00:45):
out there to try to finish the shutout.
Speaker 2 (00:47):
I thought he deserved the chance to win his own game,
saying that, you know, if if you walked the first
couple guys, that's a hard way to leave a guy
in there. But once we got the do'll plug, and
I just thought he deserved the chance to do that.
And he, you know, again it was a little my fingernails,
you know, off the first hitter and then going into
(01:10):
the second here, but he kind of reeled it in
and more than that, he felt good. It wasn't terribly
hot or anything like that, and he was a fishing
like you're alluding to. It was, you know, I mean,
I'm not dying to take guys out, I like when
they want to keep.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Pitching, or from Francona, he says, this was a great win.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
That was really impressive, and you know in a game
like that, I mean, Freeley's play was one of the
best players you ever see. We turned a double play
late that was really hard to do because I thought
when Andrew went out, all of a sudden, he didn't
look like the same guy. And it's like, oh no,
you know what. The double play really, I think gave
him second wind and certainly made it better for us.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
But shut out was aided by some great outfield defense. TJ.
Friedel made a nice catch at the warning track on
a drive off the bat of David Fry, then crashed
into the wall. The highlight play came from Jake Fraley
in right field. In the seventh inning, he made a
spectacular diving catch on Jose Ramire's line drive, and then
(02:12):
in the ninth inning on a very hard hit ball
La de la Cruz who got it to Matt McClain
who made a great turn at second base to get
the double play. As for the Guardians, manager Steven Vote
didn't like losing, but he did like the way his
team played.
Speaker 3 (02:27):
I could be more part of our guest tonight.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I know it looks three hits on the scoreboard you start,
I mean, but that's how special abb it was tonight.
And we still put ourselves into a chance to win
this game multiple times.
Speaker 1 (02:36):
And yeah, we're going through it tonight. The Wrens look
to do something that's never happened in the history of
the Ohio Cup. That is go six and oh one.
Ten is game time. Nick Ladolo for the Reds and
Logan Allen for Cleveland will have it for you right here.
Pregame at twelve forty. As for the Tigers, they keep
rolling along. They won last night in Baltimore five to
(02:58):
three Tigers and now twenty games over five hundred and
at forty four and twenty four. As for the Limba Locos,
they played in Findlay last night against the new team
of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, the Flag City
Sluggers and the Locos outslugged the Sluggers fourteen to ten.
Lima pounded out eleven hits, including Braden Cursey's third home
(03:20):
run of the season. Meanwhile, Rhys Borjo led the way
with three rbi. The Locos have scored forty runs in
their four and oh start. And I asked the head coach,
Chad Eurnsberger, if he thinks he can continue to get
this kind of production all season long.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
I mean, I think so. Just we got thirteen fourteen
position guys and it feels like all of.
Speaker 2 (03:43):
Them can hit.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
So you know that's going to be hard on me
getting the guys the advanced to keep them, you know,
to keep them locked in. But yeah, I mean I
knew coming in these guys we're gonna be able to hit.
It's just you know, hoping put the guys out there
the right night so they're ready to produce.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
The Locos and Sluggers meet again tonight and tomorrow night

A couple of high level players sitting out mini camp.
ESPN says Trey Hendrickson will miss the mandatory three day
session over a contract dispute, and Shamar Stewart is also
(04:24):
holding out. The unsigned rookie is upset over a contract clause.

at the game apiece between Oklahoma City and Indiana, and
it's back to work for the Stanley Cup Final tomorrow night.
