Speaker 1 (00:00):
Fair season has arrived, and of course in our area,
the first, if not one of the first, in the
state is the Putnam County Fair. Dale Schulty from the
Putnam County Fair joins us to give us a little preview, Dale,
good morning. Is Putnam County the first one in the state.
I don't know if it is, but it's close.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Oh no, we're not. We're not the first one, but
we are definitely in the first three. I think you
have Pickaway County goes on at the same time as
ours as well as we also have the Paulding County
Fair just finished up, So we're actually like number number three.
Speaker 1 (00:36):
Okay for the year, gotcha. Well, it's a great fair
and of course a lot of things have been happening
in recent years with some improvements to the fair grounds
and such. Just as a review, Dale, over the last
of four or five years, you guys have been able
to make some nice upgrades to the fair grounds itself, right.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah, that's right. We've done some nice things. We have
our events center, we added we just did a complete
remodel on the grand stands. There's just a lot of
like a lot of updates that have come into fruition.
In the last couple of years just made it all
around better. In fact, I'm out here today we're getting
ready for the fair. I'm out here pressure washing and
getting things cleaned up and just making sure everything is
(01:19):
just you know, absolutely the best presentable that we can
make it.
Speaker 1 (01:22):
Yeah, And as far as facilitating the fair and managing
the fair, administering the fair, have you guys found that
these logistic improvements, these building improvements have made it a
lot easier in that regard to run the fair.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
It has you know, with the commissioners, did us, you know,
gave us this event center, and that is its started
to generate somewhat of an income source for us that
we will be able to eventually, we'll be able to
eventually start putting some money back into some of the
other buildings and get those improved or replaced. And it's
just going to create that much needed that we've needed
(02:01):
over the years.
Speaker 1 (02:02):
Does that building help a little bit if you have
a day where like it's raining, it can move a
few things inside there, that maybe in the past may
have had a trouble getting done. Is it been a
help in that way?
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Well, more so than that, it's been a place that
people can go and cool off because it is air conditioned,
and you know, it just depends. Mother Nature always waits
until Fundham County Fair week to either storm or to
have our first ninety five hundred degree day. Right, so
this way we do have a place that it's sort
(02:33):
of a cooling station where they can get out of
the weather and just sit down for a minute and
cool off.
Speaker 1 (02:39):
We're talking with Dale Chlde the Putnam County Fair. It
officially opens on Monday, but of course a lot of
the prep work and some of the other stuff will
actually begin over the weekend right lading into Monday.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Oh right, we're already parking campers yesterday today. You know,
just a lot of things happening already this week, you know,
in preparation next week.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
Well, let's talk about Monday. Then that'll be Veterans Day
and the Marching Band Spectacular comes in on Monday, so
things get going. We have the rides open every day.
Let's start there. How do you work the rides at
the Putnam County Fair.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
Yeah, they'll be there, will be open every day. You know,
the hours escape me right away here, you know, but
you know, you can visit our website Putnam Countyfair dot
com you should be able to see any updates. Also,
follow our Facebook page. We did recently get a new
Facebook page, so if you're a previous like, please follow
our new one. It's the Putnam County Fair nash Ottawa, Ohio.
(03:39):
We're gonna you know, we'll have daily posts on there
and updates. That's where they will be able to find
the latest and greatest information and especially if anything you know,
weather with can't money events, We're gonna post it there
for real time information, no.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
Doubt about it. Dale Chulty of the Putnam County Fair
is with us and the Dale. When we think of
some of the highlights of the Fair, I mentioned the
marching band spectacular, but I always think of harness racing.
You guys have one night of harness racing, do you not?
Speaker 2 (04:09):
Actually we have too, Rob We have Tuesday and Wednesday
or both harness racing days.
Speaker 1 (04:15):
And that's a Has that always been a big thing
at Putnam County or has it kind of come and gone?
What's the reaction in Putnam County with harness racing?
Speaker 2 (04:24):
Well, you know, compared to last year, Like I said,
mother nature did not cooperate with us last year for
harness racing. We actually had to move it clear back
to Thursday to even get some of the race's ran
but it is typically a pretty big You usually have
eighteen to twenty races each night. You know, we do
have our paramutual bedding and all that good stuff that
goes with it. So it's a good show. Encourage you
(04:45):
to come out and enjoy the night, you know, and
watch the horses race.
Speaker 1 (04:50):
And I see the Family Fund Circus is an ongoing exposition.
I guess you could say at the Putnam County Fair
this year. What exactly does that entail and where is
it on the fairgrounds.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
So this is free entertainment, right because we understand that
you know, folks to you just coming to the fairs
sometimes all that, you know, they can afford. So we
try to have something for everybody on the fairgrounds that
you don't have to spend a lot of money to
come visit the fair. So that's one of our free
entertainment acts. It's kind of a clown activity. It's got
to show and it will be up near the event center.
(05:24):
But also he'll be roaming around throughout the fairgrounds doing
magic tricks and you know, and just a little little
action activities throughout the day.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Gotcha. We're talking with Dale CHLTI previewing the Putnam County Fair,
which officially begins Monday in Ottawa. Speaking of entertainment, I
see Thursday night you have a band in the entertainment
tent Hollywood Strip and then Friday Country Star playoffs with
our friends at T one o two. So a lot
of big musical acts coming in there.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
That's right, we're looking We're looking forward to our entertainment
tents activities. Feel free to come on out enjoy a
good time. Or Hollywood Strip band Thursday. They play eighties
and nineties stuff like poison Zzita, Billy I'd or a CDC.
You know, all the good stuff from the best era
of music. If I could be a little.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Biased, hey, no problem, Dale. Everybody likes that kind of
music and some like it the best, and that's good.
And then the Country Star playoffs, of course, some locals
all get a chance to belt out some tunes and
be judged and move on in that contest. And that'll
be seven thirty Friday at the Putnam County Fair. And no, no,
(06:34):
I leave singing to the professionals.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Come on now, I think it'd be fun. We probably
could sell extra entertainment for that.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
You know, if I get stuck doing karaoke, it's friends
in low places. That's a good one to do. So
that's always a go to your entertainment tent. Though with
Hollywood Strip and the Country Star Playoffs is they're up
charge to get into those eventors. They're all with the
fair admission.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
That's part of your fair admission. If you paid, get
in the ferry. The entertainment is free entertainment.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
Gotcha. Putnam County Fair begins Monday, and again it's Putnam
Countyfair dot com. Was that the web address? Dale?
Speaker 2 (07:10):
It is okay, correct?
Speaker 1 (07:12):
And also want to remind people that you change the
Facebook page name to make sure when you look good
up on Facebook, it's the Putnam County Fair, Ottawa, Ohio.
Make sure you do that. There are a lot of
Putnam Counties around the country, so make sure you do
that and check it out. Dale. Good luck with the
fair starting Monday. We'll be talking every day next week.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
Oh, thank you.
