Speaker 1 (00:00):
We are joined now byern Okassen from visit Fort Wayne
as we talk about what's happening there here in the
month of June. And like a lot of places, and
June means the festival calendar is filling up all right Erin.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Yes, it is, and we love this time of year.
It truly is festival season, and especially in June. We
used to say that we have a festival every weekend
in Fort Wayne, but I'm pretty sure we have multiple
festivals every weekend this month. So lots to do in
Fort Wayne. But one of our favorites every year is
German Fest. So we have some great cultural festivals and
(00:36):
German Fest is one of our big ones for sure,
So that is coming up this weekend and it's you know,
just lots of great food, drink, dancing and fun. So
you can find all of your authentic food. You've got
your broughtwurst with sauerkraut, you can get your schnitzel and
all the other good food there for those twenty one
and over. They have lots of great German beer and
then Saturday is their Familion Fest, so this is like
(00:58):
the family and and pet oriented portion of German Fest
and so that's always a really fun day. And it
actually features the Wiener Dog Nationals Race, so you can
see all of those adorable docs ins racing and that
is always so much fun.
Speaker 1 (01:14):
Yeah, those are a blast, actually very entertaining. Indeed, And
when you think about festivals too, you think about music,
and there's a big one late in the month, right, yes.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Yeah, so really excited. On June twenty eighth, our Middle
Waves Music Festival returns. So this has been such a
great addition to our festival season since I think twenty eighteen,
and so on June twenty eighth you can head down
to Headwaters Park in downtown Fort Wayne for a great
day of music. So this festival is going to be
featured by or headlined by Fantagram, and then there's just
(01:49):
a great lineup of some up and coming indie rock bands,
so it's a lot of fun. They also have an
art zone where you can you know, make your flower
crowns and your bracelets. They have a game zone with
cornhole and other fun yard games, and then you can
also shop from local makers and artists in the vendor zone,
and then of course they have lots of great food
there as well, so that's Middle Waves Music Festival coming
(02:10):
up on June twenty eighth.
Speaker 1 (02:11):
Sounds like a good time. We're checking in with Aaron
Ocassen ad visit Fort Wayne. Visit Fort Wayne dot com.
And also we saw this week it's a concert at
the Follinger Theater. Am I saying that right? Tell me
about this theater.
Speaker 2 (02:28):
Yes, it's the Follinger Outdoor Theaters. It's a really fun
outdoor concert venue. It's actually right next to our zoo,
so if you're you know, coming visiting the zoo, it's
right next to that and it's a really fun venue
that brings in a lot of great performances throughout the year.
So yes, that's definitely a concert venue to check out
if you're looking to enjoy a show.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
Yeah, Justin Moore and Joe Nichols will be there Thursday
night for instance. Aaron. Also, a big deal in Fort
Wayne is to visit the riverfront. Always a lot of
things happen there, right.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
Oh, yes, we love our riverfront, especially in downtown Fort Wayne.
You can head to our Promenade Park, so that's kind
of where our natural rivers meet our vibrant downtown. So
that's a lot of fun. So from Promenade Park, you
can you know, hop on a sweet breeze canal boat
tour of the river and those are always one of
my favorite recommendations. So you can pick you know, a
(03:21):
forty five minute tour up to a ninety minute tour,
learn about some of the history along our rivers, and
it just is such a nice time to enjoy that
boat tour. Or you can rent a kayak right there
and paddle the water trails yourself. Or if you're looking
for another great outdoor option to add on to your
trip to Fort Wayne, the Fort Wayne tin Caps. That's
our minor league baseball team. They do an amazing job.
(03:44):
They play at an award winning stadium in downtown Fort Wayne.
Tickets for those games start at just seven dollars, so
that's always another great affordable option to add on to
any trip to Fort Wayne.
