Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WYMA Sports Desk. The Reds four game winning
streak came to an end yesterday in New York, as
the Mets edged to Cincinnati three to two. Certainly wasn't
the fault of starting pitcher Andrew Abbott, who had another
strong outing, pitching six innings allowing only two runs. The
Reds are handcuffed offensively. They were held to two runs
on just seven hits by five Mets pitchers. After the game,

(00:24):
Reds manager Terry Francona said, they got another strong outing
from lefty Andrew Abbott.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Yeah, I mean he does that every time out. He's
just he's proven he's one of the better pitchers.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
In the game.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
That's fun to watch.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
With the loss, the Reds dropped back to four games
over five hundred at fifty two and forty eight. Looking
at the National League wild card standings, the Reds are
two and a half games behind the Padres for the
third and final wild card spot. They opened a three
game set in Washington tonight. Six forty five is game
time with the Nationals. We'll have it with the pregame
at six point fifteen. The Reds that send out Brady

(00:58):
Singer while the Nats counter with Jake Irvin. As for
the Guardians, they took the rubber game of their home
series with the A's eight to two. The Gavid Williams
allowed just one run over seven innings while striking out eleven.
The leader at the plate was David Fry, who drove
in four runs, and after the game, manager Stephen Vote
talked about Fry's effort.

Speaker 3 (01:17):
David Fry is one of our best hitters. We know that,
and sometimes getting that four day break to kind of
relax and take a breather and come back ready to rock,
and then two lefties right out of the gate, I
can get you going. So a great, great weekend for
David on hell everybody. It was just a great offensive weekend.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
After that recent ten game losing streak. The Guardians are
playing very well of late. They went six and one
the final week before the All Star break and now
take two of three from the A's. The Guardians are
back within two games of five hundred at forty eight
and fifty. They begin a home set with the Orioles
tonight as they send a Tanner bybee to the mount
against Tomoyuki Sugano. The high flying Tigers had been taken

(01:55):
down a notch of late. They got swept right before
the All Star Break, and there lose streak stood at
six heading into last night's game with the Rangers in Texas.
The Tigers broke that losing streak with a two to
one victory. Trek Scuble pitched into the seventh, allowing just
one run while striking out eleven. He did not figure
in the decision, however, as the Tigers scored the winning

(02:16):
run in the top of the eighth inning. Detroit now
sixty and forty overall, still the best record in all
of Major League Baseball, and they have an eleven game
lead over the Guardians atop the Al Central. The Tigers
remain on the road as they open a series in
Pittsburgh tonight, where they will face Paul Skeins as Jack
Flaherty gets the ball for the Tigers. Also in the
Big Leagues, Houston beat Seattle eleven to three in Seattle.

(02:40):
Formerlima Loco pitcher Caleb Ort earned the win. He came
into the fifth inning through one of two thirds innings
of a shutout relief, allowing just one hit with three strikeouts.
He improved it to two to one on the season.
Speaking of the Locos. They lost a Grand Lake yesterday
six to four. However, on Saturday, Alima took two from
Grand Lake to lynch the North Division championship and a

(03:02):
playoff spot in the Great Lake Summer Collegiate League. Saturday,
the home fans got a look at two new Locos.
Outfielder Julian Jimenez had a two run triple in the
game one victory. Meanwhile, shortstop Marwin Matthews had three hits
in the game to win over at Grand Lake and
rove in a pair in yesterday's loss. Head coach Chad
Eurnsberger says he and general manager Sean Bowley have been

(03:24):
working to shore up the roster after some injuries and
players choosing to leave.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, you know, I mean me and Sean have been
working hard trying to find guys to fill in, and
I like the team we've got right now.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
So now it just comes down to going out next
to cuting.
