Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WIMA Sports Desk in DC. Last night. In
the opener of a three game set, the Reds fel
to the Washington Nationals ten to eight. The tone for
the game was set in the first inning when the
Nats reached to Brady Singer for four runs, putting the
Reds behind the eight ball immediately. Cincinnati kept fighting back
but never quite drew even with the Nationals, and Washington
(00:22):
went on to post the victory. Afterward, manager Terry Francona
stated the obvious that Brady Singer did not have his
best stuff, just.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Wasn't throwing the ball where he wanted to, kind of
balls moving different directions, he wasn't commanded the way he
needed to. Second inning went on, he was actually pretty good,
and then the next inning when he had the home run,
they hit somebody just you know, I didn't want to
go get him that quick, but I wanted to keep
the game where it was because I probably might have
a chance to win.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
The Reds indeed did have a chance to win, despite
the fact Washington's lead eventually grew to seven to nothing.
The red scored five runs in the top of the
fourth to get back into it, but the Nats get
the game two of the three game set is this
evening again at six forty five in Washington. That means
pregame at six fifteen. Chase Burns goes for the Reds.
(01:10):
Brad Lord will get the ball for the Nationals. As
for the Guardians, they opened a home four game set
with the Orioles with a ten to five victory. The
Drive back within one game of five hundred. Jose Ramirez
at a three run homer in the first inning, and
then Tanner Bybee settled down after he allowed three in
the top of the first. Ramirez tied the game, and
(01:31):
Bybee threw six more innings, allowing six hits and five
runs total, and then the Guardians blew open the game
in the seventh with a four spot. Afterward, manager Steven
Vote talked about Bibe bouncing back from that tough first inning.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Tanner could have cashed it in, you know, I mean
the first inning happened quick, and then you know, we
give him an extra out and then the two run homer.
There's a couple of times he could have broken tonight
and he didn't. He kept us in the game deep
give a seven strong.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Cleveland looks to get back to five hundred tonight as
they take on the Orioles again. Joey Cantillo gets the
ball for Cleveland. Brandon Young goes for Baltimore. As for
the first place Tigers, their struggles continue. Last night in Pittsburgh,
they were handled by Paul Skeens and the Pirates three nothing.
Skimes went the first six innings of that shutout for Pittsburgh.
(02:23):
The Tigers now no longer the best record in baseball,
as they dropped to sixty and forty one and the
Milwaukee Brewers take over the best record in baseball. The
Brewers kept rolling with a six nothing win in Seattle
last night. They are sixty and forty Milwaukee has now
won eleven straight games. Also last night, it was the
(02:44):
Kansas City Royals winning at the Cubs twelve to four.
Former Una Wag pitcher John Schreiber pitched a shutout seventh
inning for the Royals in that game at Wigular Field.
Turning to the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, it's All
Star break time. The league All Star Game will be
held tonight down at Prasco Park in Mason. Many locos
will take part in the game. Lima with the best
(03:06):
record in the league. At twenty five and twelve, only
three games left in the regular season, Lima has clinched
the North Division championship. Who they will play in the
North Division playoffs remains to be determined. The Michigan Monarchs
are in the driver's seat for that spot at twenty
one and seventeen, but Muskegon and Flag City are still
(03:26):
alive heading into the final three games of the season.
The Monarchs play the Locos three straight to end the
season Friday and Saturday, and Lima Sunday up in Michigan. Meanwhile,
the owner of the Bengals sharing his thoughts on a
big issue, Mike Brown, met with the media yesterday and
talked about why they haven't been able to sign Shamar Stewart.
(03:48):
Brown using the term foolishness in his explanation.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
From our van each point, it's a form of foolishness.
It just ought to get done. There is no dispute
over the money. It's just a dispute in his mind
that I guess if he did something really deserved punishment,
(04:14):
that he would want the whole contract guaranteed, and we
would want to say, well, it isn't guaranteed if you
did something to that level.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Brown went on to put much of the blame on
Stuart's representation. Also, Brown said they are hopeful they will
soon have a deal with pass rushing specialist Trey Hendrickson
with eleven fifty WY I'm a sports I'm Todd Walker.
