Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the w MIMA Sports Desk. The Reds beat the
Rays two to one in Cincinnati yesterday to complete a
three game sweep. Brady Singer pitched seven shutout innings, then,
after allowing a solo home run of the eighth, he
seeded to Tony Santian and Emilio Pagan, who set down
the final five batters in order. It was saved number
twenty two for Pagan. The leadoff man reached base on

(00:23):
a single, but Chandler Simpson, one of the fastest players
in baseball, was thrown out trying to steal by catcher
Jose Travino, setting the tone for the game. The Red
scratched across two runs in the first inning, and then
the triumvirate of the Singer, Santian, and Pagan made it
stand up. After the game, Reds manager Terry Francona talked

(00:43):
about Singers great outing.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Well, I mean, first of all, we throw out maybe
one of the fastest guys in the league to start
the game, which certainly helps. I thought his two seamer
was really had really good movement and he was throwing
for strikes. He worked a head a lot. You know
some of these games when he's getting real deep. There's
a lot of two one through one counts.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
He worked ahead Waybot With the win, the Reds are
now fifty six and fifty, a season high six games
over five hundred. They've won ten of their last fourteen
and four in a row. They are one game out
of an NL wild card spot. Tonight, the Dodgers are
in town. Game time is seven to ten. We'll have
it right here. The pregame at six forty. Chase Burns
gets the ball for the Reds tonight, while the Dodgers

(01:26):
counter with Yoshinobo Yamamoto. As for the Guardians, they lost
four to one in Kansas City, dropping back Bowl five
hundred on the season. Joey Cantillo charged with his first
loss after giving up three runs at four innings. Gabriel
Arius's home run went for not. The Guardians take on
the Rockies tonight in Cleveland. Former Alain of Loco Tyler

(01:48):
Tolbert started in center field for the Royals in that
game and went oh for two. In Detroit, the Tigers
beat the Blue Jays ten to four to avoid a
four game sweep in that battle of division leaders. The
Tigers also broke a six game losing streak. Tonight, they
welcome in the Diamondbacks to begin a three game set.
Turning to the Great Lake Summer Collegiate League, it's playoff

(02:09):
time for the Lamba Locos. After posting the best record
in the league for the regular season. The Locos host
the Michigan Monarchs tonight in the opener of a best
of three semifinal series. This time of year, Summer League
teams usually struggle to have enough pitching for the postseason,
and coach Chad Erensberger admitted that he's not quite sure
if the Locos have enough arms.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
I don't know if it's where it needs to be,
but you know, we're gonna have to deal with it.
I think every team at this point in the summer
is dealing with a lack of numbers. So you know,
it's not something you can focus on. We just gotta
we gotta get the job done and and you know,
hopefully the guys utilize their pitch as well, and you know,

(02:54):
we can keep pitch counts down so they can go
further into games. And same with relievers. You know, instead
of throwing a lot of pitches, you know, maybe they
can keep that down so they can come back a
day or so earlier, and then you know, that's kind
of what we got to do. But it's nothing new
this summer. You know, we had to deal with it
in twenty three when we won.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Again the Locos and the Michigan Monarchs tonight at Simmons Field,
seven o'clock, first pitch, the opener of a best of
three semifinal series. In NFL News, the Bengals finally signed
a top pick, Chamar Stewart over the weekend. The edge
rusher had been holding out due to language and his
contract regarding guaranteed money, but now he is in camp

(03:36):
and Stuart says he will be ready for the season.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Yeah. You know, I got to go out there work
my tail off, but I'll be ready. I'm just confident
in my coaches, confident of my ability to play football,
Confident my fiscality. You know, it's just number work, just
to get put in.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
Meanwhile, in Brown's camp, quarterback Kenny Pickett hurt his hamstring
on Saturday. The injury will be evaluated later this week.
Pickett is competing for the rounds starting job with veteran
Joe Flacco and rookies Shudur Sanders and Dylan Gabriel Racing.
Bubba Wallace took the checkered flag ahead of Kyle Larson
to win the Brickyard four hundred. Wallace snapped a one

(04:13):
hundred race winless streak with the win. Denny Hamlin, Ryan
Pries and Brad Keslowski rounded out the top five, and
Alex Poulow won the IndyCar Grand Prix of Monterey. The
win gave Polow his eighth win and fourteen races this season,
as he all but wrapped up his third IndyCar Points
championship in the last four years, with still three races

(04:34):
remaining in the season. With eleven fifty WIMA Sports, I'm
