Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WIMA Sports Desk. The Reds and Dodgers opened
a three game set in Cincinnati last night, the Reds
coming in on a four game winning streak and just
a game out of the final wild card spot in
the National League. Of course, the Dodgers the defending World champions,
and this series a big test for the Reds as
to whether they are truly postseason worthy. Round one goes

(00:21):
to the Dodgers five to two. LA scored a running
the first, then two in the fifth, and two and
the seventh. Meanwhile, the Reds were limited to two runs
on just six hits. Chase Burns started for the Reds
and pitched into the sixth inning, allowing six hits and
three runs. He struck out ten. Afterward, manager Terry Francona
said that Burns wasn't good enough tonight, but he's going

(00:43):
to be a star for the Reds.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I thought he was terrific. I mean, he didn't back down.
You know, he yanked a couple pitches, which can happen.
You know, he didn't feel his position the way he
he you know, he just made a mistake, but unfortunately
that didn't cost us. But he challenged them and there's
some pretty good hitters now on up. He did okay.
Trying to build for the future with him and win
now with him, and I think the kids doing a

(01:07):
really good job. I really do. I think his future
is so bright because there's going to be things that
he does better. But in the meantime we'll take him.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
The Reds looked even up the series tonight seven to ten.
Again game time. We'll have the pregame at six forty
Tyler Glass. Now for the Dodgers. Nicolodolo, coming off a
shutout his last time out, gets the ball for the Reds.
Checking the National League Wild Card standings, the Padres hold
the third and final spot. The Reds are two games
behind the card Doals are a game and a half.

(01:37):
Then behind the Reds and two games behind the Reds
are the San Francisco Giants. In Cleveland, the lowly Rockies
scored four runs in the ninth inning to beat the
Guardians eight to six, But of course, all everybody was
talking about was the news from Major League Baseball that
they have placed at Guardians closer Emmanuel class A on

(01:58):
leave as part of an investigation into sports betting. Earlier
this month, Cleveland pitcher Luis Ortiz was placed on indefinite leave,
reportedly due to a gambling probe. After the game, manager
Stephen Vote was asked how the team has reacted to
the news.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Obviously, he reacts to the way anybody would. And you're shocked,
you're upset, you're frustrated, you don't know what's going to happen.
But I thought our guys they did fine. They had
a good day, they had a good work day, and
you know, then the couple that with a two and
a half hour rain delay. This was a long day.
It was a long day for our guys, for everybody.
So we're ready to get here tomorrow and get back

(02:35):
after it.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
The Guardians will send out Logan Allen tonight against Tanner Gordon.
The Tigers beat the Diamondbacks in Detroit five to one
last night. They've now won back to back games after
that six game losing streak. Andy Ibanyez and Dylan Dingler
homeward for the Tigers, who improved it to sixty two
and forty six. They have a nine game lead over
Cleveland atop the AL Central. As for the Great League

(02:59):
Summer Collegiate League, the Lima Locos were rained out last night,
game one of their best of three playoff series with
the Michigan Monarchs. The Locos and Monarchs were also rained
out on Saturday and what was supposed to be the
regular season finale. Plenty of rain and Lima here recently
and last night, the decision was made that tonight's Game
one now will be played at Michigan. After the game

(03:22):
was postponed last night, I spoke with the Locos Gmshawan
Bowley about the decision to play Game one in Michigan
instead of Lima.

Speaker 4 (03:29):
Obviously you'd like to have Game one at home, but
I mean with the field being all dirt, it's underwater
right now and looking at that, probably not a chance
really to get it playable for tomorrow. So best bet
is to get on the road. They have turf up there,
hopefully get Game one at their place, come back here
in front of the fans at the Simmons Field, and
hopefully win Game two and put us into the championship series.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
Thanks to the All Star break and rain, the Locals
have only played two games over the last nine days,
and asked head coach Chad Eurnsberger about the rest versus
rust argument.

Speaker 5 (04:00):
Yeah, I mean, at this point of summer, I think
everybody has something, either a significant injury or something nagging.
You know, everybody's kind of playing through something. So I
think every day off is kind of a blessing now,
you know, just hopefully the guys are getting healthier and
they'll be ready to go.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
In the other playoff series Game one. Last night, the
Joe's beat the Scouts seven to nothing, and good news
for the Locos. Last night, Lima City Council approved a
contract that will lead to improvements at Simmons Field for
next year. Recently, council announced that they would not be
meeting in August, so it was imperative they approved the
contract last night so the renovations could begin as soon

(04:40):
as this Locos season is over, thus ensuring the stadium
is ready for next baseball season. The upgrades will include
turf for the infield, plus a new backstop in screen
with eleven fifty WYMA Sports. I'm Todd Walker
