Speaker 1 (00:00):
High school football. It's week number two. Our WYMA microphones
will have Bath at Saint Mary's and we're talking with
Chris al from The Lineman News. They will also be
covering that game, and boy, for the first time in
a long time, I think we go into this game
with Bath not only a favorite, but a pretty solid
favorite here, and I think that's based on a couple
(00:20):
of things. Bath really came on strong last year and
became a threat. And then you look at the Week
one results. Bath steamrolled Indian Lake Riders got steamrolled by Gallion.
So a little bit different mojo going into this one
than we're used to.
Speaker 2 (00:35):
Yeah, I mean, you just look at these teams that
just had completely different experiences. In Week one, Bath looked
really good for the most part on both sides of
the ball. Mentioned they put up fifty points, Welsh had
five touchdowns, and he found five or six different guys
in that offense. They just looked like they knew what
they were doing. They looked like a bunch of three
year starters out there against Indian Lake and Saint Mary's.
(01:00):
They're still trying to figure it out. I mean, when
you look at what happened against Gallion, last week they
gave up two hundred and seventy four yards and four
touchdowns on the ground. And what do we say about
running teams? Right? You know, they don't like to be
run on, and Saint Mary's got run all over last week.
You know, I talked to Bo Fryer earlier this week
and he said that they're just they're just flushing that game.
(01:21):
They're mentally resetting, and he has a lot of faith
in the people in his program that they'll be able
to make a bunch of corrections and be ready for
this game. Because this is a game I mean that
Saint Mary's is traditionally dominated. Bath hasn't been Saint mary
since twenty fifteen, So it's a tall task for Frank
Russell and the Wildcats try to turn the tides.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
No doubt about it. We'll see how it goes tonight.
I think the key is Saint Mary's has to corral
that explosive Bath offense. Even if Saint Mary's gets things
figured out, I don't think they want this to be
a shootout, right.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
No, absolutely not. I mean the fact that Welsh found
Clark for three touchdowns, Markley on the other side for
a touchdown Mikey Hale had touchdowns of seventy seven and
eighty yards. This offense can literally score from any corner
of the field, so they got to tackle in space
and they got to contain those big plays if they
want to have a shot. In this one.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
We're talking Week two high school football with Chris al
from the Lineman News, So you guys will also be
covering Lime of Senior in Finley. We had the Spartans
last week. They eked out a twelve seven win against Pickwack.
Really a change of script for Lime of Senior. After
the last two years they routinely would score forty to
fifty points and four or five hundred yards. The offense
(02:36):
replacing all their skill players and most of the old
line really struggled, but the defense almost completely senior laden
had a really strong game against pickwa So maybe this
Lime of Senior team has a different mo this year.
But you got to figure with the senior quarterback. At
some point the offense will start to click.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
And you got to figure with Bill Lawrence's system too.
They spread them out and they just like to throw
the ball all over the field. They're going to have
some of those guys get loose. Did they have really
good weapons on the outside Jeff Williams of Monterey Davis
just to name a few. But I think this is
the most encouraging thing that could have possibly come out
of Week one for the Spartans. We didn't see them
win a defensive battle all year last year, and against
(03:20):
a team like Piqua, who is who is no slouch.
You know, let's give him a little credit. They held
him scoreless until the second half and then you know
they made play late in the third quarter to get
that get that done. You know, Finley's going to be
a little bit of a different animal this week. But
the fact that they're still they're still in flux about
their quarterback situation. They played three guys last week. Riley
(03:43):
Corcos is the guy who got the most snaps out
of the three, and they gave up four hundred and
sixty yards on defense. So this could be that game
where the Spartans really snapped into it. You know, they
they find a way to score a bunch of points.
They scored thirty five against Finland last year, so it's
not out of the question. But Finley, if they want
(04:03):
to stay into it, they got to figure out which
one of these guys is going to be their guy
under center and see who can really drive that offense
down the field.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Well, weaving back to the WBL with Chris hal of
the Lineman News, of course we had Bath Saint Mary's,
which is our game. Also tonight WAP Canetta's Home for Solina.
Pretty workman like win over Clay to start the year
for WAP Connectic. You can hear that game over on
our sister station one oh seven five the Big Buck.
They should be pretty heavily favored against their cross county
(04:32):
rivals from Solina tonight also helied his home for Van Wert.
Both teams win in week one pretty convincingly, But I
don't know how much that really is of an optimistic note.
They were favored to win big. How do you see
a light of Van Wert tonight?
Speaker 2 (04:49):
You know, I really like van Wert in this one,
although he lighted it looked really good last week. You
just take a look at these two quarterbacks on each side.
They were both debuting last week and both really showed
flashes of brilliance. Zach Krummy for Van where he's a
big hid sixty five two forty three. He passed for
two sixty four and rushed for eighty seven, which I
think was the more surprising note because we've been told
(05:12):
that he's more of a pure pocket passer. But once
you start rushing for eighty seven yards in a game,
you know you're a little bit of a dual threat.
And Jonen Snyder on the other side for Alaida, he
passed for one ninety two and two touchdowns and they
got a good rushing game out of Cam Kaufman who
had one hundred and two and two touchdowns. Good news
for Ayelaida is I'm told Parker Krim is supposed to
(05:34):
be back this week and playing in this game. That
should give him a big boost on defense, and they're
gonna need it if they want to cover all those
weapons on the outside. Well, you know, stop Zach Krummy
from getting the ball to those weapons on the outside,
first of all, because you know they had they had
great games from guys like Xavier Kelly, Keithon Wels, mikeah
Cowan last week. They got a lot of threats and
(05:55):
it's going to be a tall task for that. He
led a defense. They need Parker Krim in this game.
They need him to provide a pass rush and really
just disrupt.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
The tempo for sure. We're talking with Chris hal from
the line of news. It's week two for high school football.
Pandora Gilboa last week the emotional win over Columbus Grove
and their rivalry game with the two point conversion in
the fourth quarter and then the defense stands up and
makes a stop. They now go to Bluffton. Of course,
bluff in the last couple of years has been neckconnect
(06:24):
with Columbus Grove to rule the roost in the NWC.
They weren't nearly as impressive in Week one as they
have been the last couple of years. Interesting matchup here
in week two.
Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, Todd, I got to see Pandora Gilbot in Columbus
Grove last week. And in the first half of you
to watch that game, you just said, you know this
Pandora Gilbo. It's he kind of just looks like the
team that lost thirty five to seven to Grove the
previous year. But in the second half, I mean a
short sequence of plays changed that game. You know, Pandora
forced to fumble next plays the thirty one yard touchdown
(06:57):
from Ben Burke Holder and then they get a penalty
on the extra point, Burkholder gets the two point all
of a sudden, it's twenty two to twenty one. That
you know, that's a kid that's really the iron man
of that offense for Pandora Gilboa. He was taking direct
snaps out of the wildcat. He was the ball was
in his hands when the game mattered, and that's what
it'll be against Bluffton too. For bluffed And you know,
(07:19):
this was one of the more surprising results of of
week one for me, thirty three thirty against Ben Logan.
It's not that they had a bad game, it's just
we're used to that bluft in defense being stout and
not giving up a whole lot of points. To see
him give up thirty in week one was you know,
a little bit of a shock. But you know, take
Easki was good three eighteen four touchdowns and he found
(07:40):
Caine right for two touchdowns and one hundred and twenty
five yards on just two catches. So they got explosivity.
They got a guy like Parker level in the backfield.
He had sixty yards in that game against Ben Logan.
This could be a runner versus runner game. But if
they put the ball in the hands of take Easki,
he can make plays and Pandora Gilbo is going to
need to contain those on the backside like they did
(08:02):
against Grove. Is they want to stick in this one?
Speaker 1 (08:05):
Well? Those are some of the more interesting matchups for
Week two of high school football, and Columbus Grove will
certainly have a tough call to try and bounce back.
They take on Liberty Benton. That's not going to be
a gimmey. In fact, to Liberty Benton, one of the
stronger teams around Columbus Grove with again the rough early
season schedule here.
Speaker 2 (08:25):
Yeah, this is not a game where you want to
get right if you're Columbus Grove, because Liberty ben was
just absolutely spectacular in Week one against Ottawick Blandorf a
thirty five nothing win and Toledo commits seth Elker had
a one handed catch in the middle of the field
that he just took straight to the end zone against
Ottawick Glandorf. Connor Barbaras settling nicely a quarterback for them.
(08:47):
He's the one, I guess you thing that they had
to figure out on that offense from last year with
having so many returners. But Columbus Grove. I mean, last
last week was the first time we saw Landon Best
on a field since we two or three of last
year with that leg injury. To me, I don't think
Andy Schaeffer agreed with my sentiment, but he just looked
(09:07):
a little bit about a half a step off on
some plays. He overthrew Trevin Baxter on a couple would
be touchdowns. You know, with the amount of rushing yards
they have to replace, they're trying to do it by committee.
They gave Baxter, they gave Best, they gave Brody McClure
nine carries a piece, and they all did a pretty
good job. But you're just not going to replace Trenton
(09:30):
Barraza all with one guy. The Columbus Grove. You know,
they're going to need to run the ball. They're going
to need to control the clock because this liberty bent
team is explosive on every corner of the field.
Speaker 1 (09:39):
Well, lots to talk about was week two of high
school football. Chris All with the Lineman News. Thanks for
checking in.
Speaker 2 (09:46):
Hey, thanks for checking in with me. Tod
