Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WYMA Sports desk. The second game, with Jake
Browning starting at quarterback, went about as well as the
first game. The Bengals last week lost in Minnesota forty
eight to ten. Last night in Denver, they lost twenty
eight to three. Browning did not throw an interception, However,
he was sacked three times and the Bengals had more
(00:21):
penalties the eleven than first downs nine. After the game
at coach Zach Taylor said his team obviously is frustrated.
Speaker 2 (00:30):
It is frustration, it's disappointment. These guys have worked, we
have the talent, we have the coaches. Again, it's just
about creating some moment of for ourself. It really hasn't
been in these two games for very different reasons. An
opportunity for us that we've just created some moment of
ourselves where we can piggyback the and again, we got
a long season left to go a lot of opportunity.
I'm excited to see how these guys respond.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Also, coach Taylor said his team has to knock off
the pre snap penalties.
Speaker 2 (00:54):
It is lack of dis one pre snap penalties. So again,
it's just as a whole, it's not nearly good enough
where we're a team that should not be having that problem.
We have to get it corrected.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Both teams are now two and two. The Bengals will
be home this week for the three and one Lions. Also,
last night at Battle of oh and three teams in
Miami saw the Dolphins beat the Jets twenty seven twenty one.
The Major League Baseball playoffs begin today. There are four
games on the docket, the first being the Tigers at
the Guardians, game one of their best of three Wild
(01:26):
Cards series. Of course, the Guardians came from fifteen and
a half back in July to catch the Tigers to
win the Central by a game. Today's pitching matchup aces
Trek Skubele for Detroit Avin Williams for Cleveland. Guardians manager
Steven Vote says, when you look at these two teams,
you might as well be looking in the mirror.
Speaker 3 (01:47):
I think, you know, I can only speak to the
last two years, but these teams are very very similar.
We're built similarly, like we match up well. We have,
you know, both lefties, rightys and bullpens and very good
starting pitching. So it's an equally matched two teams. And
I think when in like I said, the coaching staff,
we all get along, the players, they all get along,
(02:07):
and we just.
Speaker 4 (02:08):
Want to go out and win.
Speaker 1 (02:09):
The Guardians have announced to that Game two's starter will
be ten or Bybee. Game three they'll go with Slade
so Cony. Just after three o'clock today, it's Game one
with the Padres at the Cubs. Then at six o
eight it's the Red Sox at the Yankees, and the
final game tonight and nine oh eight features the Reds
and the Dodgers. We'll have it for you right here
in your home of the Reds. Pregame at eight thirty eight,
(02:30):
first pitch at nine to eight, and it's a best
of three series. The manager, Terry Francona, who's twice won
the World Series, says, in the postseason, your emotions go
up and down very quickly.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
And it's funny because even in a short series you'll
see most of the you know, you'll have ups and downs,
and they just happened quicker again. You try to have
urgency without panic. In the past, I've actually really been
able to enjoy it. And just because I know once
our preparation is ready, you know, that doesn't ensure anything,
but it gives me a little bit of a comfort
(03:05):
level right downfield.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Austin Hayes has been battling an injury, and Francona was
asked whether he'll be able to go in Game one tonight.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Pretty good. I want to wait, you know, I want
to wait and see how he gets through this workout
tonight and talk to him a little bit too. You know,
with a lefty pitching, he's a perfect guy to play
left field. But I want to be fair to him.
I don't want to make sure he's okay.
Speaker 1 (03:28):
The Rds go with one hundred green on the mound tonight,
and manager Terry Francona talked about Game two in Game
three as far as his starting pitching rotation.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Platel's on his day and then Abbott will be on
his day. If there's a Game three, we'll put Lodolo
in the bullpen. And the reason being is not because
we don't want to start him, because actually a really
good starter, but because of what our record was going
into yesterday. You know, we we pitched him, so we
(03:58):
want to be really cognitive of him and how much
we can ask him.
Speaker 1 (04:03):
Lake Snell will get the ball for the Dodgers tonight.
You may recall the last time he faced the Reds
as a member of the Giants, he threw a no hitter.
We'll have the pregame tonight at eight thirty eight again.
Game time is nine oh eight. A couple of managers
were fired yesterday in Texas, the Rangers moving on from
Bruce Bouchie, who managed the team to the World Series
(04:24):
Championship in twenty twenty three. Bochie has won four World
Series titles, and in San Francisco, the Giants fired skipper
Bob Melvin. The Giants have not made the playoffs since
twenty twenty one, with eleven fifty Wima Sports. I'm Todd Walker.
