Speaker 1 (00:00):
Week three for high school football.

Speaker 2 (00:01):
Our WIMA Microphones tonight will be at Shawnee as he lied,
it takes on the Indians and Western Buckeye League action
here to talk about week three with us and look
back to last week as well as Chris Howell from
the Laman News Chris, how are you good?

Speaker 1 (00:17):
Good?

Speaker 3 (00:17):
Had a couple of weeks in the books, hoping for
another good one this weekend.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Yeah, you know, you think back to last week. Of course,
our game here on WIMA was Bath and Saint Mary's,
and the Wildcats made no secret they wanted to end
that nine game losing streak to the rough Riders, and
they did so another fifty point plus effort as they
put up fifty six this time. So the Wildcats of
Bath certainly showing that their offense is again going to

(00:44):
be formidable.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah, no question. When I talked to Frank Russell after
the Indian late game, that nine game losing streak was
on his mind because, I mean, ever since he's gotten
to Bath, he's just tried to erase old trends and
that was the latest one. You know, they did what
they did in Week one and made a lot of
big plays, but they also gave up a few big plays,
so they can share themselves up on that defensive end.

(01:07):
I think we really got something cooking here with Best
and we might start looking towards that we ten matchup
with Walpark.

Speaker 2 (01:14):
Well, certainly we will do that as the season moves on,
as we tend to do as fans and media look
way ahead. But a lot of football to be played
between now and then. And speaking of Wapa Canetta, they have,
as per most seasons, open two to zero, a couple
of I wouldn't say lackluster wins, but certainly not lighting

(01:35):
up the scoreboard or anything. Twenty eight to seven over Clay,
twenty four to seven over so Lina. Now they go
on the road for the first time to take on
a defiance team who has a plus two and their
two wins winning twenty to nineteen and twenty one to twenty.
So what do you think about Wapa Caneta. Are they
just kind of waiting to hit their stride or is
this what we're going to see from them? You know,

(01:57):
mostly lower scoring, defensive type games.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
You know, I think they're just kind of easing their
way into it. You know, there's no harm against starting fast,
but I think they're just trying not to start too
fast as they hit their stride at the best part
in the season. I mean, you mentioned it, twenty four
and twenty one points in the first two weeks or
twenty eight whatever you said. It's just it just strikes
me as a team that's doing what it needs to do.

(02:21):
They're taking care of business on the defensive side of
the ball. My favorite stat about them early on is
that Caleb Moyer has the same number of incompletions as
touchdowns with five. So there's been no I mean, there's
been no slouch there with Caleb Moyer. He's as good
as he's been last year. Still hasn't turned the ball over.
You know. Caden Page has made a big play at

(02:42):
eighty seven yard touchdown in Week one, and Jarrett Mullin's
been steadying the running game. You know, this is a
team that I think is I mean, they're not purposely
taking it slow, but they're kind of easing their way
into playing their best football. I think.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, some folks have speculated that Caleb Moyer may be
one hundred percent. Looks like he's not running the ball
very much or very often or very well for WAPA Canetta.
But certainly they've been doing enough and his passing has
been impressive. And for WAPA Canetta, you know, two games
you've allowed to touchdown, so clearly the defense is.

Speaker 3 (03:16):
Ready right, absolutely, And you know, with Caleb Moyer either
being healthy or not being healthy, even at eighty percent,
he's still probably the best quarterback in Northwest Ohio in
my opinion. So if you have to go up against it,
you know, a slightly bruised Caleb Moyer, that's still bad
news for you, if your defiance, but defiance you know,

(03:36):
you know, first year head coach Steve ritten ho Or
he's really living by the sword here with these two
one point victories. I think he told WTL after that
game against Napoleon, if we keep playing one point games,
it's going to take some years off my life. Well,
they follow it up with another one point game against
og so you got to worry about coach written out
a little bit over there.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
Well, I think the one point loss is probably take
more off your lifespan than one point wins. But absolutely
the point remains. Let's talk about our game tonight as
we visit with Chris Howell from The Lineman News. We
have Elia at Shawnee both teams one and one. Shawnee
quite impressive last week is that they took out Kenton
on the road thirty seven to six for Elida. Boy

(04:20):
would it could have showed a game against Van We're
a couple of deep drives, they've fumbled and missed out
and touchdown opportunities, so they are in a bit of
a foul mood. Of course, this is always a good rivalry.
How do you see this game today?

Speaker 3 (04:35):
And Todd, that was the story of that Elia Vanward game.
I was at that one as well, in elighta four
turnovers and on those last couple of drives they really
had a chance to move the ball and take it
down late into the red zone, but just drop after drop,
you know, just a few mental mistakes here and there.
One of the bright spots they had was was Cam

(04:56):
Kaufman man. You know, just watching him run the ball
and fifty rushing yards three touchdowns so far this year.
But he looks like the hardest guy on that team
to bring down. His problem also was, like you mentioned,
he struggled to hang onto the ball a little bit
at times. But when he's got the ball in his
hands and he's going forward. I feel sorry for the
guy who's standing in front of him now on the

(05:17):
defensive side of the ball with Elaida Parker Krimp, he
battled cramps all night long in that game. That being said,
cramps are no cramps. He had two sacks and two
tackles for lost by Mike count So as he gets
into football shape, that'spel's bad news for anybody on the
other side of the ball. Shawnee, you know that the
fact that they did what they did against Kenton, I

(05:39):
think tells us more about Shawnee than it does Kenton,
because Kenon is just a team that's all out struggling
to move the ball or stop the ball on either side.
JJ Spiker, you know, when he's upright and healthy, Shane
Weierman has really pulled all the white right strings with him.
He makes big plays. He's a dual thread out there.

(06:00):
It can hurt you in a multitude of ways. As
long as Spiker is upright, healthy and moving around well,
I think I like Shawnee in this game.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
Yeah, that's a good point.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
We'll see how it goes tonight with Elia at Shawnee
here on Wima. Also, Liman News will be there covering it.
Chris Hall from the Liman News is with us this morning.
Quick look at some of the other games around the area.
LCC and Lime of Senior will be on the road.
T Birds are now two and oh. They hit the
road to Kerry. They beat up on Saint John's last week.

(06:30):
Good start for the t Birds. Carrie usually a good team,
but they're out of the gateo in two. What have
you seen? What have you liked about the Tea Birds?

Speaker 3 (06:38):
Well, first of all, I'm just still trying to figure
out whether that LCC Saint Johns came actually happened since
it was going on during the Ohio State Texas game
last week. But nevertheless, you know they get it done
twenty eight to seven in that one. ELCC. You know
they're two and oh, but more importantly they're two and
o on the road with a first year head coach,
and I think that's the most impressed part about it.

(07:01):
And guess what they get a third straight game away
from home against Carrie this week. Then you know, Carrie,
they lost to Galleon, a team that really beat up
on Saint Mary's in the week one. But they really
like to run the football and they've got some big
kids in that backfield. Eli Steen is a guy six one,
two thirty five that I would keep my eyes on.

(07:22):
He ran for one hundred and a touchdown against LCC
last year and what was a Saturday afternoon game. But
you know, if LCC can keep up this positive momentum
they've had over these first two games and just got
one more out on the road before they get back
home to Lineman, I like this. I like them to
be three and zero heading into week four.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
What about Lima Senior.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
They are living a much different life this year than
we have seen the last couple of years. Of the
high flying offense. It has been grounded and apparently losing
all four of your receivers and a good bunch of
your offensive line is hard to overcome.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Uh no, absolutely. I mean when you look at those receivers,
they've they lost almost four four to five thousand yards
of total offense and a lot of teams would kill
to have four to five thousand yards of total offense
between there and you know, entire plethrow of weapons. You
know that. I keep going back to the one good
bright spot is that defense is for real over at

(08:17):
Limas Senior. You look at that seventeen to seven loss
against Finley. The only time Senior scored was Darius Routson's
picked six in that game. So they're doing a lot
of really good things on that side of the ball.
I think it more comes down to Jenias Hall getting
on the same page with some of these new wide
receivers and or targets on that offense. He's He's also

(08:37):
struggled to protect the ball at times. I think he
threw two picks last week. And you can tell, you know,
Bill Lawrence is trying a few things here because he
ran the ball last week with the Montrey Davis ten times.
And I don't I can't think of a time last
year where where one guy got ten carries in a
game for a line of Senior last year. You know

(08:58):
this Marion Harden team, this is their home opener. The
line of Senior won this game forty nine to twenty
four last year. If they can play defense like that
and just try to, you know, find a semblance of
riding the ship on offense, I think they should be
able to get this one by a touchdown or two.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
That's Chris al with the Lineman News quickly, Chris one
more people have been saying Saint Henry could be in
the mix in the MAC. They host Marion Local tonight.
Are they really in the mix?

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Do they have something for the Flyers tonight?

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Look as respectful as I can say this, I think
Saint Henry is the second best team in the MAC,
but they're not going to look like it against Marion Local.
Marion Local is just exactly what we expected.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
Them to be.

Speaker 3 (09:41):
They're powerful on offense, they force a bunch of turnovers,
and they play on a short field, which makes, you know,
the running game a tough thing to get established, which
is exactly what Saint Henry does. Now. If Saint Henry
can possibly get Charlie Worthing rolling, they could be able
to maybe stick in this game for a quarter or
to But I think this is all Marion Local.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
All right, Chris, We appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (10:03):
We'll check the Lineman News online for some coverage of
games tonight. Appreciate you checking in.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Hey, appreciate you, Todd. I have a good weekend.
