Speaker 1 (00:00):
From the WYMA Sports Desk. The Reds went into last
night's rubber game with the Blue Jays at Great American
Ballpark knowing that the Mets had already lost in Detroit,
so it was a chance to gain a game on
the Mets for the final NL wild card spot, and
the Reds came out and put up a five spot
in the second inning against Shane Bieber to lead five
to nothing, but that lead was short lived. The Blue

(00:23):
Jays hit five home runs, four of them off starter
Zach Lttel, who was chased in the fifth inning, and
the Reds went on to lose thirteen to nine. It
is the sixth time this year the Reds have lost
a game in which they scored eight or more runs.
After the game, Reds manager Terry Francona talked about veteran

(00:44):
pitcher Shane Bieber settling down after giving up the five
spot in the second inning and shutting the Reds out
thereafter and giving his team six innings of pitching.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
I mean, we did a really good job, and he
put a five spot up, and then as they creep
back into it, you could see him starting to find
his footing two and he got him on through six,
and I mean he's he's got spin, he's got that
unbelievable command of all pitches. You know those you have
to respect, three or four pitches that can make it difficult.

(01:17):
I thought we actually did a really good job against him.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
The Reds dropped back to five hundred, losing the rubber
game to the Blue Jays. They're now seventy and seventy.
They're five games behind the Mets for the final NL
wild card spot. Meanwhile, the Giants have slipped in there,
a game ahead of the Reds as well. Manager Terry
Francona knows that this weekend series gives the Reds a
chance to stay in the playoff chase.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
I mean, I wish we'd have won tonight. We're probably
extremely fortunate that we get to play a team that's
in front of us saying that got to beat him,
but it's our chance.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
In Game one of that series tomorrow night, the Reds
will run out Andrew Abbott against the Mets Kevin Gossman.
The Tigers tried to help the Reds, beating the Mets
six to two in the afternoon, avoiding a New York
sweep in Detroit. Tigers now eighty one and sixty, leading
the Ale Central by ten games over Kansas City and
ten and a half over Cleveland. Speaking of Cleveland, they

(02:15):
broke a three game losing streak and avoided a Boston
sweep with an eight one win at Fenway. Joey Cantillo
six innings, gave up just one run to earn the
win for the Guardians. Gabrielle Arias also hit a two
run homer to help the Tribe. Afterward, manager Stephen Vote
commented on a strong outing from Cantillo.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
Joe's outstanding Obviously got out there really efficient first, and
then he got the lead and he pitched like it,
attacked using all of his pitches.

Speaker 1 (02:45):
In the American League, it's a very muddled race for
the final wild card spot. The Mariners currently hold it.
They laid the Arrangers by a game and a half,
the Royals by two and a half, the Rays by
two and a half, and the Guardians by three. The
Guardians are at the Rays to begin a four game
we can set tonight. Turning to the NFL, It's time

(03:05):
to start for real. Game one of the season Tonight
features the Dallas Cowboys at the defending champion Eagles. Eagles
coach Nick Siriani said his team had a good off season.
I think our habits are going in the right direction,
and that's you and you focus on those things. Is
you know, every practice that we go through Sunday, we'll

(03:27):
have the Bengals and Browns for you right here on
your home of the Bengals and the NBA is investigating
an alleged off books endorsement deal between the LA Clippers
and Star Kawhi Leonard. ESPN reports that Leonard's company was
owed money by Aspiration, and now bankrupt sustainability startup backed
by Clippers owner Steve Balmer. The agreement shows Leonard was

(03:49):
to receive the money despite showing no visible work for
the company. Former Aspiration employees describe the arrangement as a
no show job which increased Leonard's compensation without affecting the
team's salary cap. The Clippers have denied any wrongdoing. With
